Title: The next Bitcoin?
Post by: Lumining on September 02, 2017, 02:57:43 PM
Dear Bitcointalk community,
we all love Bitcoin because it has some great features, but what will happen when another cryptocurrency will be used as much as Bitcoin? Mainly because it has all the things Bitcoin offers but better?
I wrote an article about this idea on Steemit and I would like to hear the opinion of some Bitcoinveterans.
Please tell me what you think and don't hold back your criticism.

Bitcoin is already better than gold and is going to be better than fiat money. It can upgrade if need something became "better". New coins can't compete today and will not in the future because at this time BTC will be HUGE.

I see Etherum have potential if they have faster transaction confirmation from any coin in the world..

Bitcoin will be the DAD always, as it has the first comer advantage.

All the rest have potential and can only be child.

Eth, Ltc, etc have great potential, and will have a significant market capital in coming time.

Some of the new coins will emerge in the coming years if their roadmap is met or some other good news comes out.

There is a possibility that users will deny it as they already assured that bitcoin has a great features, people will pick bitcoin over the new crypto because it is safer way and they know that bitcoin is a good investment and already reach the furthest.

Everything gona be fine if those currencies will have equal price but i don't think it will happen. To make some currency that will compete with BTC you need to make it better. If someone will find any ways to improve BTC then devs will do it. If there will be a better currency then it will be the most expansive one. Don't think that there is a place for more than 1 leader.

Bitcoin is basically a revolutionary idea based on blockchain technology and all the cryptos after bitcoin are just reproducing this technology. Bitcoin obviously has the first comer advantage. Do agree that some of the cryptocurrencies integrated additional features, be it enhanced privacy, smart contracts, niche coins like targeting real estate, cloud storage etc, but global recognition is entirely different from what extra other coins are offering, first comer advantage.

The basis of all cryptos is blockchain technology and if I am right bitcoin can be tweaked to add additional features. First comer, cryptos based on the same technology as bitcoin, so basically if bitcoin fails, all other cryptos would fail. I might be wrong, hope not.

When gold standard was abandoned and Fiat system took over did gold lost its value? No.

I actually don't think that this thing your saying will really happen. Because what ever the future better coin you are saying can always be beaten by bitcoin because whatever better things that coin have, bitcoin can also have. That is why the devs are working hard to imorove bitcoin more and more each day. And as a person, i trust bitcoin morethan any alternative coin out there. And would really choose it over any other coin because it has experience it has already proven its strengths and that all of its weaknesses has solutions. That is why i think a pop up coin wont be able to beat bitcoin.

It is a very real possibility that something could come along and replace Bitcoin. The short history of tech shows us that being first to market is no guaranty of continued dominance. It hasn't happened yet, although some altcoins are getting some traction, particularly with improved anonymity. That is not to say that it is inevitable that it will lose it's place either. Bitcoin could see off all comers for ever more.

Even if it has better features, btc will remain the leader as it's what came first and what people actually care about.

All other altcoins don't have any usage in real life. They are only traded against bitcoins for profits.
I still can't understand what kinda "features" you're talking about ? Btc already has all that it needs. If there are some issues, they may can be solved by applying improvements by the devs.

It's what introduced the blockchain technology to the world and all the others are just copying it in one way or another.

I want it too, but you can never relax. New coins appear later and could take into account all of the negative aspects of bitcoin. We see how difficult bitcoin is changing. This can be a problem for him. But if we add another war against him, governments and banks?

Well written article, but I disagree with the premise. Its all good and dandy looking to invest in another coin for cheap hoping the value increases with time. In my humble opinion, youcan sae your self the esearch and worries by simply buying a fraction of bitcoin and you will still make massive profits on your $100 investment, if you live long enough.

Bitcoin will be still king and I believe it will be number one for all the crypto in the next fre years or maybe decades . No one can try to reach what bitcoin can do like bitcoin price yesterday already reached 5k dollars but as of now the price is 4600 dollars but I believe it will back again to the price of 5k dollars. Thats why bitcoin will be king because many investor trust and invest to this coin so it will become stronger everyear.

most currencies are traded in pairs with BTC, that will always be the case. However with the predicted 1 trillion that will flood the market in 2018... the top 20 could look very different.

I think we should believe in the action as compared to speculation. With that said I believe bitcoin has already proven itself by taking huge leap in the market. The price is off the charts, investors are leaning more towards to bitcoin than any other coin now. I think there is less chances for any other coin to go that much high now. Bitcoin has already achieved the highest level and there is no coin coming that way.

Bitcoin might not be replaced entirely, that's not what I wanted to point out with my article BUT the next booming cryptocurrency will most likely follow the path of Bitcoin very close, don't you think?

Lol this takes me back to a company called Nokia, remember them ? . Now these guys were the pioneers of cellphones and held the largest market share with their symbian os cellphones. Along came a new comer and announced that they would too launch a cellphone to market, that company was apple. They were ridiculed and scoffed at and continuously frowned upon for their Idea of a cellphone. Nonetheless apple launched their phone and the rest was History, where is that pioneer that thought nothing could ever replace it ?

It will be hard to see a cryptocurrency which will be used as much as bitcoin  or which will take the number 1 spot from bitcoin on coin capital market cause bitcoin has already go globe include it atm and a lot of government have signed it into their law bill. However, if it happen that another cryptocurrency is been used as much as bitcoin such thing will create competition in the system.

Wow this might just be the best answer you give. Many people kept sticking to the old Nokia phones, parents didn't buy the nuw stuff to their kids because the parents did not use it either.
But at one point in time the opinion of the people changed and by now, everyone switched from Nokia to iPhone.
I think it's probable that cryptocurrencies can follow the same trend.

We have seen several alt coins coming out to say they are better than bitcoin but unfortunately they have not been able to live up to expectation. Let's just hope we see that one which I am sire everybody  will know but until then, there is no point going beyond the time and predicting the future.

well if that happens then we can be able to see a real competition between bitcoin and some cryptocurrency. but in reality it'll take a great effort and time to be able

to pull something like that moreover these effort and time doesn't guarantee anything, even if you spend countless months it doesn't mean success is already

guaranteed. to be honest there are already some cryptocoins who has a better features although not completely. i also agree to the others, discussing this doesn't

really mean much as its already impossible to predict something that will happen in the long future

Symbian vs iPhone vs Android - Communication, Bitcoin vs alts - Currency. Two different categories, though hypothetically have a similarity.

Nokia failed because they were too adamant to change their system through which they got dominancy and iPhone/Samsung tapped into it and it was a bit too late for Nokia to realize/act upon it, fruitless.

Do you know what was there before mobile phone? Telephone, Graham Bell. And in this context, bitcoin ain't iPhone, Samsung, or Nokia, it's telephone, you still use it, no matter what mobile you use, right?

Bitcoin already has Segwit, next would be LN, and then further implementations could be added according to necessity. As far as the bitcoin ecosystem including the users, nodes, developers, and miners say never say never it is never say never.

Ether has the best chance.

A lot of people in the crypto community who argue for the likes of Monero because of privacy - there's not mass demand for privacy, not yet, and unlikely in the very near future either. We're still a minority that value this.

bitcoin is the father of all alt-coins so theres no one alt-coin will be much better than bitcoin, maybe the other alt-coin that has a potential to grow much value than itself before but to raise as bitcoin or will be much better than its father? i think its not gonna happen. maybe if the bitcoin died, there will be new cryptocurrency will born and thats the beginning of the new legacy of the new one from the legendary bitcoin.

You don't want a next bitcoin. Bitcoin was the first and will stay the first. You will have 21.000.000 bitcoins and you can divide those into smaller numbers. Everyone can own a piece of the cake. There are coins and tokens with other purposes. So you can see Bitcoin as the digital gold currently. While If they upgrade Bitcoin properly why we can't use it in daily world? Pay a cup of coffee and pay for your gas? If the transaction fees get lower those simple transactions everyone would start using Bitcoin for that. Right now Bitcoin is good for the bigger transactions.

Don't you think it's possible that there could be another Bitcoin? I mean everyone used to use Myspace... well not everyone, but millions of people. And then suddenly in a few years it went out of business and was replaced by Facebook - a much more complete social network. There have been criticisms that Bitcoin does not use all of the possible features a cryptocurrency can have. Maybe it is the Myspace of cryptocurrencies? Only time can tell...

Theoretically most of the altcoins that emerged after the bitcoin were intended to be the "new bitcoin" at the time, and although some of them have offered considerable improvements compared to bitcoin, none can displace it simply by being the pioneer and the most popular. If ethereum could not displace it despite its advantages, I very much doubt that any other will do so in the medium term.

I've always had the idea that the bitcoin is the best and most valuable just because it's the first one to be. Blockchain technology is a more important thing and it's alrdy providing more usefulness in other area than cryptocurrency. Also, Bitcoin will probably remain the strongest but there just might be some alt-coin that will replace bitcoin in some areas like gambling or any other more specific area hat some other coin is more suitable for.

As a bitcoin lover i always wish that it will never happen but it is not impossible. Of course if there would be a currency offering better services than bitcoin surely the users will get attracted towards it. People need most profitable and reliable currency to earn more and more, if they find a better currency than bitcoin than they will go for it.

There will not be a "next bitcoin". The fact that every altcoin is being compared to bitcoin says a lot. People won't just neglect what is being used for years now for a new coin. Even if that coin has all the things bitcoin offers but better, bitcoin would just be upgraded, like it just did.

I think all zhe altcoins asre only compared to Bitcoin, because it's No1 with the highest market cap and the biggest increase in value. If there would be another cryptocurrency worth more, Etheereum for instance, (on place 1), I think most would like to reach this goal of becoming No1 instead of becoming like Bitcoin.

I do not think there will be "next bitcoin" but what happens is "next altcoin". As we can see this year, a group of ICOs came and introduced their platforms, bringing new innovations, visions and missions. One goal is to compete with prices or perhaps even exceed the bitcoin price. But it does not seem easy. One reason is "bitcoin is the originator of Cryptocoin". Beat the community first, then "maybe" beat bitcoin. Until now bitcoin remains number one.

Do you know nothing is forever? Even paper money, gold or other asset, the value and ranking of them on the world always change after long time. Bitcoin is also affected by this world's rules. Therefore, you need ready in someday Bitcoin will replaced by other crypto on market.

There will be no next bitcoin in some near future, bitcoin is holding strong first position and all others all far behind. I complaint on high fees, before we complained on slow transactions, but no matter how much we cry about bitcoin we come back to bitcoin and we continue to use it. Other alts have some innovations, they have cheaper and faster transactions but still they are just alts and they are not spread like bitcoin is. Countries already accepted bitcoin and I doubt that some alts will be recognized in same way in some close future, after who knows how many years we can see some alt replacing bitcoin, that is possible but chances are very low for that to happen.

DeepOnion (ONION) is no. 282 in marketcap at CoinMarketcap. Purple unicorns will fly out of my ass before this POS coin breaks into the top ten. The possible next bitcoin is looking you in the face at no. 3 spot just behind Ether. The fight over the next three months will be epic.

Yes, bitcoin is the first decentralized peer-to-peer payment network that is powered by its users with no central authority or middlemen and every other altcoin still review bitcoin code to make their own
modified version of coin software. But, this is not the main reason why bitcoin will always take the lead. They main reason is that bitcoin was create to fix our current financial system, give power to the powerless and to put food on a common mans table.

Although i agree with you on some levels, I don't on some. Because you see, as what we all have witnessed in the past days, months, and years, the world of crypto currency is something that no one can predict(unless you have psychic powers though). We can all only speculate on some theories each other have and hope we make the right decisions. So with that being said, im gonna be more cautious.

I personally think bitcoin is incomparable however you can say or speculate that steemit might be next to bitcoin. It has pretty features and projects sounds promising too, but we can never tell if steemit will surpass bitcoin. There might new coins that will try to take bitcoins place but it will take a lot of time and effort for that coin to overcome bitcoin, it has gone through a lot and it is still the number 1 crytpcoin until now and as you could see nothing is slowing down bitcoin to increase its value.

I don't think any coin will do this, bitcoin has prove and established itself in the market for some many years.

based on popularity and market cap actually still there is no other coin (alternative coin) can compete bitcoin yet. that why bitcoin is the main cryptocurrency and the others called as alternatives coin. some alternatives coin are getting growth now and become big cryptocurrencies but those still not enough power to collapse bitcoin and become the next bitcoin.

I see Etherum have potential if they have faster transaction confirmation from any coin in the world..

Well i guess it is etherium too, but i dont believe it will surpass the bitcoin maybe it may equal the value but it will not be greater than bitcoin. As you can see even we hold any kind of altcoins but still in the end it will be traded to bitcoin and that makes bitcoin maintain its value to the top. As per monitoring at the markey cap the value interval is so big.

I am not so sure about this. Ethereum was worth less than $40 a piece back inn March of this year. The is 5 or 6 months ago. It crossed $400 recently. That is 10x growth in less than half a year. The platform is used by hundreds of companies and is growing every day. The technology is also comparable, if not superior to Bitcoin.

Ethereum will never replace Bitcoin. You must be dreaming! If that would happen, it would mean that people doesn't give a damn about finnancial sovereignty and monetary freedom. The whole crypto space would be a big failure and blockchain would be a useless tool and have failed. However dummies will still drink the koolaid and believe all the marketing shit by crypto corporations who could very easily become the next google, amazon and microsoft then. Centralistic control and monopolistic power would increase even more.
If Bitcoin fails or gets replaced by one of those governed and highly centralized, premined altcoins, it's all a big failure.
Only if another true decentralized coin would come out of nowhere I would continue to have hope for that space.

I don't think there will be such thing as "NEXT BITCOIN". There's no doubt bitcoin is "the father of all cryptocurrencies". Miners won't let that happen mainly because all other altcoins depend on th  value of bitcoin. If the question is "What is the next big thing on cryptocurrency?", then my answer would be ETHEREUM and LITECOIN (but I son't see these two altcoins beating the BITCOIN.

Right now, bitcoin is still the main crypto currency around, not only because it was the first of its kind, but also because of the support behind it. I think that will remain that way for as long as development does not stagnate and more people are encouraged to explore and take part in the bitcoin community. With the market cap continously increasing, I am confident that it will be the go-to crypto currency for many years to come.

Yes I really depends on what you mean by used. Firstly, the biggest use of bitcoin right now, it's simply to hold value on an exchange. This can be because that values be used to trade other cryptocurrencies, or it can't be because the Bitcoin is coming from a revenue source and being held there until finally being exchanged to Fiat. The secondary largest use would of course be to purchase items. Each has a different reason for its current level of popularity.

Title: Re: The next Bitcoin?
Post by: posternat on September 06, 2017, 03:11:00 PM
People use bitcoin exchanges to hold value because they trust value is not going down they know that if it's going to lose anybody at all it might be a $100 value and it's going to go right back up within a few days. That way when they're exchanging cryptocurrencies, they don't have to keep going straight for Fiat into the exchange and then back out again losing money in The Exchange every time, they also know they don't have to leave it in a crypto-currency that they do not fully trust waking up in the morning to find all of their money gone.

This level of trust in Bitcoin and its value is based on nothing more than its history, anybody fresh off the street and has never heard of Bitcoin and it's been asked to pick a coin in the entire list of coins that they would trust to hold value over night, or over the course of 30 days would be very likely to pick Bitcoin.

Now, as far as purchasing items that are not part of the cryptocurrency world, and mostly outside the online world, bitcoin' is the best choice simply because because it was their first, there's been at least 3 years of solid work on trying to get Bitcoin accepted in more and more environments.

Just as I thought, this thread is about some altcoins stuff. Anyway I do not think that what is writted in the article will happen.  First it should go to mainstream, for that to happen anonymity should be abandoned.  Government and finance institution will more likely suppress this altcoin just like monero, Dash and other anon coins.  The altcoin that was introduced in OP's article will never go to the level of Bitcoin adoption because there are already existing altcoins that have that features so no news there.  I do not think that the next Bitcoin had been made yet.

The steemit article is just promoting DeepOnion as the next Bitcoin, completely glancing over the huge demand for an open ledger and the flaw of dependency on Tor, essentially you can achieve the same by running Bitcoin over Tor.
Technically Monero is way way better in every aspect, DeepOnion doesn't even remotely start to compare to Monero when it comes to anonymity or security.

I agree that Monero can be a big thing, but i very much doubt it will surpass Bitcoin even though it offers optional transparency when desired by both parties.

Of course it’s possible that one day this could happen. The same is with fiat money, they are changing every day. But Bitcoin is more stable cryptocurrency and price for it rises always. So now, there is no reason to be worried about it. If you have an opportunity to make an investment, it’s time to do that.

Ethereum and waves look like the next big contenders. So many Devs now launch tokens instead of coins. If you look at the market capital ethereum is catching up so maybe there will be a half half split between them. None the less all 3 are here to stay. It's very interesting to see how things change and technologies grow and become better and more varied.
Although Waves really interesting, but I do not see ICO project successful from Waves platform till today.
While, Ethereum has many projects successful from last year today and almost ICO project use Ethereum platform are can reach to minimum target or hardcap in short time. :P

In my opinion, although many new coins grow in cryptocurrency, bitcoin remains a favorite coin because bitcoin is the pioneer of the digital currency market and crypto, so the role of bitcoin will not be replaced by any coins in crypto.

This will be very difficult to say. Bitcoin has created a niche for itself in the crypto world and I don't see any other coin overtaking it anytime soon..

Bitcoin Led the pack by nearly two years, and then only had to contend with two to four coins over couple years after that and then a vast number of contenders. Bitcoin was the first at that's why it is the most popular at this time, because it keeps its value and it has the work of the political and social efforts to make it integrated in society.

I also agree with this that bitcoin is the 1st and last choice. There will be no other bitcoin than the existing one. So don’t be worry about any other crypto currency other than bitcoin and also about next bitcoin, because the currency ones prevail in the market the people will hardly accept other crypto currency.

So I think it is enough with this bitcoin. We do not need other bitcoin and also there is no need for any other bitcoin

Until now,no other coin has the potential to replace bitcoin.Once Ethereum and Monero were expected more to do so since they were fully anonymous, but they failed to deliver.Bitcoin has gained trust among investors all over the world and its hard for any other coin to gain such trust being a decentralized currency. But in future, when quantum computers would be introduced and bitcoin security may get compromised. At that time, there is a possibility for some other coin to replace bitcoin.

The time will come that bitcoin will be just a useless coin because of the problems and issues that will exist in the future so the time will come also that you will have a lot of doubts in bitcoin and you will be thinking for targeting the next bitcoin for your investment and that is what we need, a back up to make sure that future will still be fine even bitcoin is not good.

As I'm writing this, all coins are falling down including bitcoin, because  a lot of negatives news are being hurdled on Bitcoin and because of this it's falling down, there is no next bitcoin right now, the best that we can do is to support the king Bitcoin and don't think that a coin will replace bitcoin.

In my personal opinion, it is not impossible for other currencies to replace bitcoin in future. But I don't see that happening soon. ETH is technologically much more superior than bitcoin and is the closest contender of bitcoin as on date. Not in the price but in the market cap definitely. I have recently started using ETH so I have started to understand the technological aspects of it as well. ETH is better than bitcoin as a payment processor.

However, if you compare bitcoin and ETH as an investment asset. Bitcoin beats ETH. The kind of return bitcoin has given to its investors since last few years, was huge and none could offer the same to their investors. So every currency has its own pros and cons. As of now, if I have 100 USD to invest, I will put $60 in bitcoin and rest $40 in ETH.
