Title: How do you monitor your crypto portfolio?
Post by: chanfest22 on September 15, 2017, 08:49:29 PM
I haven't managed to find a crypto portfolio tracker that works better than a spreadsheet I have. I'm curious what other folks use—would love to hear any tips about what is or isn't working for folks.

In the meantime, I'm going to try and make some improvements to my spreadsheet tool at www.cointracker.network for anyone to try (feedback welcome).

The Blockfolio app is amazing! It's on android and IOS and allows you to track almost any coin from any exchange. It has alarm functionality which is really handy. It's easy to check it every 10 minutes though :)

I also use blockfolio app and coinomi. On coinomi, I see the prices on one site, so I don't need a spreadsheet. Blockfolio gives me the needed charts, history and price alerts.

I went the completely lazy route.  I mostly just buy and hold things that are supported in Exodus/Eden Wallet, so I can see them and manage them all in the same place.  They support about 25 assets now, and plan to support quite a few more.  I do have some holdings that are not supported, and just keep them in separate wallet.

Doesn't exodus run their own tracker ?
I have few traders come to me for developing a custom tracker application for Desktop.Indeed,I advice the same, get yourself a customised coin tracker programmed.

I also use blockfolio app and coinomi. On coinomi, I see the prices on one site, so I don't need a spreadsheet. Blockfolio gives me the needed charts, history and price alerts.

Too bad they still don't have an iOS application.Otherwise they're a bit safer online wallet.

Well my first comment makes more sense now. Thanks for clarifying!

Just use blockfolio to track. Most of the time I cant even figure out how much I have invested between everything.

Blockfolio all the way, bit of a pain manually entering prices individually but worth it. Just be prepared to constantly check it through out the day :)

Also you can get an overview of your token value from Ethscan but not sure how well it handles some of the less popular altcoins. Always wondered where it gets it's value estimates from.

I use blockfolio, the best tracking tool, you can also switch exchanges if you don't like the low price from one particular exchange. I also use gravychains on Android to give a quick overview of the market, it has a portfolio function too.

Thanks for all the pointers! Seems like a couple folks recommend Blockfolio. For folks who like Blockfolio—is it meeting all your needs?

I tried it out and it gets some of the base functionality. How do you deal with altcoins and tokens that aren't shown there? Also how do you calculate your cost basis including fees from transactions and see your overall ROI? Is there a way to do this in Blockfolio?

Just like the others. I think Blockfolio is the best choice, simple, easy to use, and the market is very diverse. The best apps for the best people. you can download it in the Play Store.

Works perfectly.  For long i did not bothered much but then realized I am sometimes spending way to much calculating and searched and found this thingy.

I use a spread sheet.  Nothing beats checking things in the morning and updating all of them manually.  All these automated apps don't give you the same experience as doing it on your own.  It's fun...  For me at least.

Yeah like you I'm also using blockfolio. It's easy to track my coins there and easy to see what percentage of how much I've lose. Just add what coins you're holding and you'll see the growth in the market.
Everyone should install this.

Hmm... I think you will have some troubles if you have a portfolio with more 20 altcoins. Really, if you track them by manual, you will waste your time because it worse than use some apps automatic and helps you manage your portfolio easy.

I use blockfolio to monitor the price in bitcoin and in my currency and then I use tabtrader if I want to read charts sometimes. This helps me to keep track all of them and I don't need to open the exchange which takes time.

Its really not too hard to do for me and its because I only trade on two exchange sites which currently I hold just a few coins which means I only need to log in on the two websites and check how my coins and doing then decide if its the right time to either sell or wait till the next available right time to make the decision.

Using google spreadsheets with add-ons that pull the price from coinmarketcap and from google finance. It gives you ways to create your own way to analyze your portfolio. But also use Blockfolio.

Blockfolio is a great app for portofolio monitoring. Also u can choose from which exchange you want the price to be listed. Also u get and history graph of your portfolio in your desired currency or in btc. Overall a great app. Only downside is that u can get addicted to it too easy :P

Good topic man ! I'm also looking for a cool portfolio tracker. I've tested a few of them but none of them (https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@pedrombraz/the-best-way-to-track-your-crypto-portfolio) really satisfied my needs.

At the moment, I'm looking for a spreadsheet solution but it is hard to find some time to develop a spreadsheet that can get track of current trade, make updated plots,... I want to keep it simple without investing too much time.

So if anyone has a good spreadsheet that involves these features please share :

- ability to track investments
- ability to track earned bounties
- ability to track mining
- ability to track trades
- ability to track withdrawals

Thanks for you answers

I use 2 different tools to track my investments
First one is the blockfolio to track my long term investments. There is nothing new about this as most the people use this.
Second one is the Trextracker which is an app designed to track the coins, buy and sell orders, pending orders in Bittrex. This little app is available for Android and works only for Bittrex. Poloniex alternative is also available

Try blockfolio. You just have to enter you buy price and it provides you profit and loss. Its the best app that I have found to keep track of your portfolio, but its very addictive. I had to delete it so I could lead a normal life again!

Thank you all for the responses—super helpful!

It looks like a ton of folks are recommending Blockfolio which I've tried. It has all the basics. That said, I have found the UI pretty annoying/confusing in terms of picking currency pairs at the beginning of each step and lots of glitches/lag. Has anyone else experienced this or am I doing something wrong?

Until I can find something better I'm going to keep working on www.cointracker.network (if folks have other painpoints they want address, please let me know!).

I haven't managed to find a crypto portfolio tracker that works better than a spreadsheet I have. I'm curious what other folks use—would love to hear any tips about what is or isn't working for folks.

Also @lentzaj—I added ROI, ability to track investments & withdrawals at www.cointracker.network. You can also include earned bounties & mining by setting the price paid for the "buy" to be $0. For trades, still working on this but would love to hear a little more about your use case.

You can download it on playstore there's an app for blockfolio so that you can set it and you will be notified once your coin up or down. You dont need a spreadsheet for your coins this app is good to all traders.

This apps lack some functionality. For example, if you have invested in BLX index from iconomi, it is not possible to add it beacuse it is not per se a token. Also, what about bounty campaigns earnings ? Do you add these as "mining" profit. I like organized stuffs and this apps are to narrow for my use.

So a good old custom spreadhseet my be a perfect solution ;)

I used the blockfolio to monitor the price of my token. It is very convenient because once I set price for the token, it will alarm does it mean the tokens are already reached the price I want. It is easy to use you will also know the status of your token. Blickfolio is number one on my list.

Bits of my spreadsheet are still using a custom script that fetches some data from a few exchanges APIs, but it was too complex to keep updating and adding new cryptos and exchanges so I tested that addon and it has been very helpful!

It's really hard to monitor our Altcoins especially if it's in a different wallet. We will have difficult tasks and many tabs open to see only the progress of our Atlcoins. Therefore, developers have made one application. Here's how to monitor our altcoins as you can see it in a single Application. This is called Blockfolio Apps. You will see real time lifting and collapse of altcoins / bitcoins.

I'm an ETHER token fan which I like watching its price on exchanges or on coinmarketcap. Monitoring them on https://ethplorer.io is easier though.
Just inserting my ETH address to this site will show me the tokens I have and its value as well without exposing my login details.

Google spreadsheet with this addon:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/cryptofinance/bhjnahcnhemcnnenhgbmmdapapblnlcn?utm_source=permalink

please consider donating to this guy, really great tool!

Bits of my spreadsheet are still using a custom script that fetches some data from a few exchanges APIs, but it was too complex to keep updating and adding new cryptos and exchanges so I tested that addon and it has been very helpful!
awesome tool. thank for sharing this tool for us. hope can support poloniex soon
thanks for sharing this too mate, as I always having problem monitoring my coins just got 5 coins if I remember it right and I needed to check
how the project moves and this tool would give me an easy job now, hope I can maximize its uses.

I am using blockfolio and it is a very good app to check your portfolio and it updated, whenever you use refresh button. Approx. all altcoins are there in their portfolio. You just have to enter the price of your coin at the time of purchase and it start updating your balance, whenever you refresh and show you negative or positive balance..

I like blockfolio it`s really smart and comfortable for me to see how much of my deposit i`ve raised in dollars, but if you like ti count in satoshi it`s better to use tabtrader but only in Android, iOS does`t have this app. And soon you`ll be able to trade with tabtrader.

I also used the blackfolio application to be updated on the changes on the price of my altcons. I used becasue I usually hold and investments my altcoin for me to have a profit in the future and to earn more. So I suggest it for others to used it also becasue it could help people to hold more knowing the graphs of the changes of the specific coins they may have.

wauw i just found blockfolio and this is amazing guys.
I will try coinomi too but blockfolio ROCKS!

The alerts of blockfolio are awesome and they have almost all coins in their app. Only app i have extra is coinmarketcap too luck for gems not yet supported in blockfolio

With abcFolio you get the coinmarketcap list integrated in the app, besides all the basic features of blockfolio (charts, alerts, news), but with a quick graphical resume of your portfolio and support of multiple fiat currency at the same time.
Try it for Android!  ;)

I've used both cryptocompare and blockfolio and would recommend both. Cryptocompare can have a lag sometimes and used it more when i was starting but from what i've heard, they've worked out a lot of the bugs. For the past 4-5 months I've relied pretty heavily on blockfolio and haven't really had any complaints.

Also https://cointracking.info/ is good for this. But the best is Blockfolio.

My portfolio is manually monitored. Although I am using blockfolio app in my mobile device, I am not relying on it much. I do monitor their threads here, very seldom though. I am following most of the time their twitter account so that updates will be fast. I also go to their website. It is not a hassle since I am owning less than 10 coins.

i am monitor my crypto portfolio by using apps in my cell phone because sometimes I get mobile and I am not too often to online in front of my pc. the apps is called tabtrader, I think its simple, easy to use and we only need to add our api key inside the apps but don't use the option to withdraw because its not recommended. with this apps, I can always check how is my crypto portfolio conditions and if the price is getting increase, I can stay alerted because there is alarm inside the apps too so we can set it up in what price we want to sell or we want to buy in what price.

I have an app installed on my Android called Blockfolio and I use it to keep track of the coins I have. Additionally, I also used Altpocket (https://altpocket.io/) because it is easy to use and you can connect your API keys from your Bittrex and Poloniex accounts there. Plus, it's completely free to use and most appealing to it is the social media features. So if you have friends who are also involved in cryptocurrency, you can show them your portfolios like how you share your updates on your social media accounts like Facebook and others -- although you're doing it using Altpocket.

We only use five different exchanges, and nine times out of 10 were on one of two of them. So the portfolio is kept right there on the Exchange. At the same time you spreadsheets with updating numbers and macros built into them to keep track of various things in regards to the portfolios of our clients. Simply the ease with which a spreadsheet can update itself and access information from Json makes this way too easy to do.

I use block folio. I'd say that it definitely works a lot better than a spreadsheet because it has so much more to offer such as profit tracking and everything is updated automatically from live exchange feeds instead of you having to do all the heavy lifting.

If you're comfortable with whatever you've got then no reason why you should switch to another.

I've also got alt pocket on my bookmarks, it's cool since you can share your portfolio and even link your portfolio to an exchange account.

Blockfoliois the most popular app to monitor your altcoin holding, it's a bit of a pain to manually enter the prices individually, but it's worth it. Be prepared to check constantly throughout the day. But I prefer the use the old way, so I visit coinmarketcap website everyday and open different tap for each coins. I also use trading view and add my own altcoin lists so I can monitore and do TA at the same time.

I won’t go in much of the hassle but will have look on the exchangers sites whether they have grown or not. For additional and easy way tracking I will have the coinmarketcap window open always and all the time ayongwith my exchanger.

I will also keep the stop/loss limits on each day with different setting and HitBtc which I use mostly will always sound me notifications loud about the trade that I’m doing. That way I can know there has been price changes and then again I will have look around the different site for difference in the rate.

My portfolio is for long term so I’m not worried about the today’s or tomorrows price with at most priory. But I will do play some trades everyday with 24 hours stop/loss just for the fun.

I use blockfolio app for tracking my altcoins. It is a good app because you can alarm it and you can make multiple input of of coin detailed price. It has also a chart, order book and market details for each coin.

I am using blockfolio app in m android device so i could easily track the progress of each coin's prices in real time,it is the most trusted coin application for tracking the prices, and i have been using this for about a year now without any problems. It is the most recommended application by the community and the experts and you should try for you to decide.

I use blockfolio.  But I use the strategies of holding altcoins for a long time and sell them only from x2. In the blockfolio, you can put an alert on the growth of the coin-it's very convenient! ;)

Me too, but I also use coinmarketcap to track the prices of my coins. There is no portfolio creation option in there, but I still love it because of its simple and user friendly interface.

Most of the time I use Blockfolio as it is really easy to manage your coins and sort them like you want. Also, a handy price alert function can not be forgotten! If I am using my PC, CMC is the way how do I monitor my assets, so I'd say that I am just a basic user of these apps.

I also use blockfolio app and coinomi. On coinomi, I see the prices on one site, so I don't need a spreadsheet. Blockfolio gives me the needed charts, history and price alerts.

Is that safe to use it to check our portofolio? Is it issued from the official exchange wher you normally trade?
I think would be better if we use portofolio checker like application to check our portofolio. Its more safer too because its issued by the official exchange.

Yes coinmarketcap is the best one.

Usually I have all my transactions in Blockfolio, it's not maybe the fastest way but works quite well. Then I also have an Excel file where I write down the total amount of the tokens I have and how much I've spent, it's similar to Blockfolio but in a much simpler way: amount of the token, amount of the money spent and total value.

May I ask why are you using these "trackers"? I use coinmarketcap to check the prices and use blockchain explorers like etherscan to see my transactions, Am I missing something?
And what about people using excel spreadsheets, what are you doing with it?

Just give LUKRUM a try. It's a brand new portfolio manager for blockchain assets that will totally change the way you interact with your portfolio!
Charts, stats, multiple exchanges and wallets, and so much more... You can download it by going to: https://lukrum.tech/ (https://lukrum.tech/)

Most people use coinmarketcap and spreadsheets which is more than enough in my opinion. What you should try to avoid is to become obsessed with checking the stats all the time. It can be addictive and you learn nothing new more constantly looking at charts and benchmarks.

Early this year I used to check my phone App every minute but today I am using it often as I try to hold my crypto assets as long as I could because I am not planning to sell them too soon this time.
This 2nd quarter, I am focusing much on Bounty campaigns and few Airdrops.

for me which using poloniex, it's very useful to use their trading history so I can monitor our crypto portfolio. besides that, I can check in what price I bought the coins and I can decide what price I can sell to make a profit. I use bittrex trading history too but unfortunately, bittrex doesn't allow for a long time trading history to shows up so I can track or monitor my crypto portfolio. and so far, by doing this, it's really helped me to always check my portfolio in poloniex and bittrex.

No need to find a crypto portfolio tracker, you just need to make some spreadsheet for your coins portfolio.
If you using a program of software for tracking your portfolio, you cannot change or modify something that you want to add later same as spreadsheet.

I use blockfolio app to monitor the Crypto portfolio. There are so many advantages for this app and you can add any token you want. Further it shows BTC value or any other currency values as well. It is easy to monitor the daily profit and loss amounts as well and hop you will love this app too.

Blockfolio is like the most popular app you can use to monitor the performance of your portfolio. Some people on here are saying the blockfolio app gives error prices. I say pay no attention to them. This is because the blockfolio app was programmed to calculate price of a coin base don how much it was when it was last sold. This means if someone mistakenly buys a coin by x50 of the current price, blockfolio will record the sold price as the new price of the coin which will ripple down and affect your enter portfolio making you believe your coins moons only to find out someone bought one of your coins at the exchange for a very high price by mistake

To open each exchange would take a lot of time. Many are using Blockfolio or Cointracking to monitor their crypto portfolio. You can also set alerts for when the price goes up or low. I have now the coinmarketcap app with the watchlist and it is a great app for portfolio monitoring.

I also found nothing but a spreadsheet and I do not think there is a crypto portfolio tracker that works better than a spreadsheet, I always check it after my work day is counted because I think it matters and when I do not get a stock I can quickly ask the manager what my mistake so in the next week I make no mistakes again
and about your spreadsheet, I hope you successfully fixed your spreadsheet

I used blockfolio. Blockfolio has the prominent advantage of being mobile. And it has the massive drawback of being mobile-only. I loved Blockfolio for quite a while, the app is sleek, they have live prices for virtually all mainstream tickers and exchanges and it worked just great to keep track of my handful of coins and weekly trades.

But then when the trades started to get more frequent than weekly it became such a mission to input all those trades using this tiny button on my phone that I had to quit it.

They said a desktop version is soon to be released, but so far it hasn't.

Altpocket is,so far, the best looking alternative I've seen. One of the best tools out there. Totally free, lets you input your Poloniex and Bittrex API keys (which are the exact ones I use) and get trades automatically. Also lets you add trades manually. Lets you change your pricing API to CoinMarketCap, Poloniex or Bittrex.

Moreover, it has a social network feeling. Lets you share your portfolio and performance and be followed by people. But you can, obviously, make your portfolio private.

Still, it has a lot to add in terms of data visualization. Cointracking beats it hands tied. It seems that they have updates going on all the time, so I expect a lot more to come.

Title: Re: How do you monitor your crypto portfolio?

Cointracking.info is the perfect solution ! I knew at some point I would find something like that. They integrate with exchanges, they have API importers, all kinds of dashboards and charts and all you could want. Definitely the tool to get the job done. I mean they have IT ALL. More than I could figure from myself, like a dendrogram of currencies. They even help you get your taxes done.

Except that... well... for more than 200 trades it is not free AT ALL. It is quite expensive actually. A lifetime signature is half a BTC and a one year signature is 0.08 BTC (Currently approximately $200).

Well, not for me.

Mostly there are apps for this, apps like blockfolio is one way to make sure that you can properly track your coins and know what is going on with them. Especially for those who have a large number of coins and cannot keep track of all of them it is better to keep them in the app and track them there. Also using a spreadsheet can be an effective way to track the coins

There are a large number of trackers that allow you to monitor the situation in your portfolio. This is not a problem. It seems to me that it is more important to control the situation in the external environment. Use analytical services that allow you to see the situation a little wider. This will save your assets and nerves 8)

Until now I am still using the trusted Blockfolio crypto monitoring apps. So far I don't have any problem with it so I am still using it. It is not the perfect crypto tracker, but I think it has most of the features that I need in monitoring the market value of my holdings. I recommend it as a basic tool for crypto holders.

I use coinmarketcap to track the rate of cryptocurrency but mostly I buy a few coins from this list and it is not difficult for me to go to the exchange and check what rate at the moment. The guys write that Blockfolio is a good application. Think, too, his'll download )

There are a lot of ways that we can use in order to monitor our cryptocurrency portfolio, the best way that we should use is by downloading the application of blockfolio and also by searching the website of the coinmarketcap.com. I can easily become aware to the latest information of the token that I have.

Didn't you think if that will put your amount into the big risk consider you must always try to log in to that site periodically? I guess if that was involving very high risk because when you are wanna seeing your portfolio and you must long in to the site.

There are a lot of tools depending on your level. Beginners may use one kind of tools such as an ordinary spreadsheet or cryptocompare, and advanced traders will be using much more complicated accounts, graphs and bars.
For long-term HODLing a spreadsheet is enough.

Does your app or desktop wallet not offer a coin tracking system? I read that some of them offer something like this now and more are being developed. If you use a spreadsheet though that should do just as good a job as any external software.

It actually we don't need to check it if we don't want to trade. It is disappointing if we only saw declines and so we just keep it and hold until our market recovers.
All the basis if pumps are coming from bitcoin movement and so I just only check btc price rather than of looking my entire portfolio.

Since i do not have much of the time now to begin to search CMC for the coins one after the other, because not everyone of them is listed on CMC. So blockfolio should be a perfect means for me, because i do not know of any other.

However, if you are mainly using your android phone to track your portfolio, I found many better apps that have more features than Blockfolio, like Blox (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.blox.blox&hl=en) and Bitsnapp (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bitsnapp.com.bitsnapp&hl=en).
