You will need a lot of money upon starting an exchange. You will need a huge budget for security which you will also need some professionals to employ for its hardening. Partnering up with reputable people who have done it before should be able to help you. I once plan to have my own too. Have you tried checking an exchange script?

Start for trading , First you must registration on exchanger. ( Example : poloniex , bittrex )
Second , you must verification your data self. ( For security )
Third , you must have money / FIAT for trading.
Happy trading  guys.

You need a lot of money, not only some bitcoins to sell to the buyers, you need to invest on security. If you don't have a good group of coders you can loose all your bitcoins on a stupid bug. Isn't easy to start a new exchange.
Its easier if you start a website about bitcoins with a banner to others exchanges, you can receive an small affiliate comision.

It is nowadays a really complicated business. The competition is very keen. If gonna be one of their competitors, why not creating something that live on those platforms? Like a tool to figure out the most competitive rate which exchange offers at the moment.

another interesting thing about an exchange is the possibilty to do what I call an exchange 2.0
What I mean is a transparent exchange which makes transaction directly between users with only the interaction of the exchange in the means of a 3-way transaction. the exchange will only intervene when theres a conflict between some of the parts by either accepting the transaction or denying it.
think about it

Buddy if you want to make a bitcoin exchange, I suggest you to contact bitdeal.net. They provide or make the script from scratch according to your idea. But they charge around 4000 usd for their script. If you are ok with the budget, you can contact them. They have made so many exchange scripts which are up and still running without any problems. And for the source , you just make live trading bitcoin exchange . In that case you don't have to stock bitcoins in your wallet.

You are not actually answering the question been asked on here on which op did not asked on how to make tradings which he do ask rather on how to build an exchange and just others said here you would really need huge money on here knowing that exchange business is not a joke. You would really need to team up with reputable persons and also making your site have tight security a good team which would able to handle the duties and responsibilities on running an exchange and there are lots to consider first.

Huh, you gave yourself a hard goal, it's not easy these days to start and run the exchanger. The competition is big, you will need large starting capital, competent experts and excellent technical support. I believe this is not easy to achieve and even harder is to survive on the market. Good luck!

I found this article very useful for me - http://merehead.com/blog/how-build-cryptocurrency-exchange-software/ (http://merehead.com/blog/how-build-cryptocurrency-exchange-software/). The main and starting point is company registration and target countries. Choose them carefully as there are a lot of pitfalls like KYC and AML. After it, as already mentioned above you need to choose fiat currencies

In theory then you must have a very large capital to be able to make an exchange. In addition you should also have a strong team that can be trusted to provide the best for the development of the exchange. Everyone should have good competence and also good professional. Because you will be risking all the money owned by the user, so security becomes a very important part in order to give public confidence to the exchange. Believe that you can only do that when you have a lot of money and also experience / skills that will help you realize all those dreams.

Nice question. Its very complicated business.
Currently at the market there are more about 200 exchanges and only 10-15 with big amount of users and liquidity.
If you want to make your own exchange, you have a several options:
1) You can buy a white-label system with performance similar to cryptocurrency exchanges, that are in the second hundred of existing cryptocurrency exchanges. It will cost you thousands of dollars (except liquidity program).
2) You can hire developers, product architects and develop you own product. It will cost you millions od dollars. But it could be better if you find people who already made some exchanges.
Both options need a liquidity program. You have to pay to liquidity provider for crypto and fiat liquidity.
But prepare for a long and difficult work)

Since the value of bitcoin now is high, therefore you need tons of money to invest in it. You need to read and research and observe to those sites that you enter. You need to go through their legitimacy so that your money will be secure. There are tons of trading sites but you really need to study how will they work out. You should also not base on your emotions but do a lot of strategizing. Hope it helps.

I too have considered starting an exchange.  While there are many out there, there can always be new leaders.  I would suggest doing lots of research and finding out the top exchanges and what users like and dislike about them, then when designing your exchange make sure and put elements/features that you know your customers like, but even better, fix what they don't like, then exploit that when marketing your exchange.

Good Luck!

First thing that you need to research is the countries where Running Exchange is Legal. There are quite a few.
Second Thing is how many coins you want to launch in Phase I and how many fiats (I would suggest you can start with a small number)
Third consideration is security.

However, one thing is sure that there is a lot of money to be made via Exchange and if you have a business plan in place, there is no dearth of people investing in it.

I did. Exchanged some Doge for BTC several months ago. Everything went smoothly, these guys have a great support, very responsive.

This is kinda simple exchange, sort of a just buying and selling tokens only which made me curious whether how it works and did these guys earn well from the users.

They say they charge 0.5%, but you don't have to calculate anything, the amount on the screen is the amount you get in your wallet.
Idk how much they earn, but probably not that much since they have only couple of transactions per hour on average. Overall I like the concept of a totally anonymous exchange, but for some reasons they don't have many users.

That being said, you should never try to exchange big amounts on any anonymous exchange prior to performing a good research by yourself, which includes reading reviews which are up to date and exchanging small amounts first.

Launch the exchange business is very easy. Because most of the company offers bitcoin exchange script/software to build. This is the best solution to start. From this you can save time and money. And you need not know the technology to build when you choose the bitcoin exchange script (https://www.coinsclone.com).

As an Advisor..... I can easily assist you with every module of exchange but I would like to first discuss with you and would like to know exactly what are you looking for like just a simple exchange in which you can simply buy and sell Bitcoins.

OR

You would like to go for a little big exchange like listing some good Crypto Currencies on your exchange and get them traded.

OR You would like to go for fully fledged CryptoCurrency Exchange with Margin Trading, Live price tickers, Bis Management, Min/Max purchase sell, Unlimited Currency Pairs, and many more.

To move our conversation ahead, please pm me and let me know your easiest way of communicating with your good time to contact you.

I can tell you a few things:
- a simple exchange it is easy to get, but it relies on 3rd parties wallets
- if you aim toward a real trading platform, the things are more complex (and expensive)
- if you want to generate and handle wallets, the things are extremely difficult

I worked about one year along with other developers to build our own exchange. We picked the best core we could find and moved on. Initially I though it would take about 1 month (max) to have it ready, it finally took me an year.

What is important to notice, as I though a lot about this before starting the project: we do not store private keys. We rely on the bitgo api to secure the coins and to have a backup record of each transaction. So if you want to store wallets, that it's a huge challenge.

I have worked for more than 10 years as a developer so I understood pretty well the security requirements from the very start. If you are not a developer yourself, you will need to trust other people for dealing with sensitive code parts, which potentially can leave the door open to hackers. So be extremely aware.

IMO, at this point you could buy a PHP based exchange script, which relies on 3rd parties wallets. The disadvantages of such an approach are obvious though: you depend on a centralized exchange rate and pay fees to the wallet providers. But even in this scenario you need a lot of security, as you will still store some personal data that could potentially could leak funds in case of hacking.

Yes, I agree with you.

A "normal" exchange is difficult to pull off now. You probably missed the party on that one. However, might work if you have a unique selling point.

Here are some ideas. I like to make lists so bear with me.

(1) Geotargeted: How about an exchange that targets a specific region that is underserved? Central or South America.

(2) Industry-specific: Exchange that focuses on a specific industry. That's a tough one. You would have to come up with an API that would allow automatic exchanges. Like coinpayments.net .

(3) Specific demographics: Older or less tech savvy people. Make it simple to use so anyone can use it.

I'm sure there are more USP's but those came off the hip. .Best of luck to you.

It is certainly not easy to start a cryptocurrency exchange. We, at bitqist (https://bitqist.com), especially underestimated how certain organizations oppose against cryptocurrency-related companies. For instance, it is very challenging to open a bank account at a reputable bank as a cryptocurrency-related company.

Of there are crypto exchanges site that offer free listing but your project to have a huge community support first before you can apply for such exchange listing and the best way for you to get huge community support is by hosting an airdrop campaign. However, I believe exchange like Nexybit and crex24 does that you can contact their representatives on here.

Their would be requirement of licenses as per each country rule or their government polices. Firstly may be a regulator nod would also require if your country still has not given a green signal of legally accepting the crypto currencies. Then yes you would require the best of the security so that no lapses occur and your wallet's get hacked.
