Title: Do you use Tor?
Post by: Don Pedro Dinero on September 19, 2017, 04:06:21 AM
As quite a few of you gamble in cryptos casinos from countries where gambling is forbidden, I was wondering if you use TOR to hide your identity. Or if you use it as well, even if you don’t gamble, to avoid your movements being traced when operating with btc and other cryptocurrencies.

Is this possible if u done a lot of transactions with one address in your electrum wallet and then want your future transactions to be anonymous?

I've used TOR before, but I don't really dabble much in the darknet market scene, so I don't have much use for it. In most cases, I'd prefer to use a no-log VPN (or TOR browser in conjunction with a no-log VPN).

Is this possible if u done a lot of transactions with one address in your electrum wallet and then want your future transactions to be anonymous?

TOR isn't enough to make your transactions anonymous. It's pretty well known by now that governments and law enforcement agencies are running a lot of TOR exit nodes, monitoring activity. The best option for anonymity we have right now is Monero.

And mixer of bitcoin it's good for anonymous transactions?

Using TOR to send your Bitcoin transactions will improve your privacy, but is only one factor.

The main problem with Bitcoin transactions and anonymity is less about whether you used TOR or not when sending the transaction, but rather that Bitcoin transactions themselves are easily traceable. So if you want to improve the privacy of your future transactions, it is recommended to send your coins to a mixer and from there move them to a new wallet (with a whole different set of addresses).

And then, of course, there's Monero. Not as widely accepted, but a good choice for privacy conscious transactions.

I tried it out of curiosity once. I found it borderline unusable but of course there are sound reasons for that. I don't see how it could be viable for fast moving stuff like trading or gambling.

And I've heard so much about TOR honeypots and leaking IPs that I'd never have full faith in it anyway. It's always going to be the number one target for cracking. On top of that I don't really give a shit about anonymity. If I did it's almost certain I blew that years ago.

This says it all. You can use TOR, but if there's somebody actually trying to trace you they'll simply sit and wait for you to use an exchange or buy something online.
I haven't heard of a case when an institution would try to use IP address to trace the owner of a bitcoin address. It's much easier to trace it back to an exchange, get the buyer's ID and go from there, or wait for it to end up on an exchange and do the same thing. Even if the person they get to isn't you it might be someone related to you or that you've done business with.

I was very impressed with Verge. To use the wallet you have to open a Tor first.

I've done that and done this before,, but I don't think I need to used it again.. In bitcoin I don't see any reason to,, but in deepweb or onion sites they're are tons of reason and not using it is as dumb as selling bitcoin at 2800$ last week.. I mean bitcoin offers anonymity but do we really need much of it when we want the government to regulate it.. We want only to protect ourselves but today it is our government who will need to protect us,, but hiding our identity to them won't helped them..

tor is a good option if gambling is blocked on your country  by doing it you can acces those restricted sites and gambling sites also you can use vpn or virtual private network , this is like tor and also hides or change your ip address to a diferent country depending on the proxy you use. in my case i use tor only when accesing the deepweb or darkweb.

I don't gamble nor use tor. I do however use a VPN to guarantee the safety of my ip address. But think about it there's a reason gambling is forbidden in certain countries. Just don't gamble, especially with bitcoins. You will regret it in 10 years.

Yeah, obviously TOR is only one tool; it doesn't ensure anonymity at all. But between a no-log VPN+TOR to mask your IP address, and Bitcoin services that don't do KYC, you are certainly not low hanging fruit and are likely untraceable, as long as you are careful to continually cycle through new IP addresses and analyze your coins to ensure you've lost the taint.

Smaller services will sometimes send your coins right back to you, so be careful to analyze your own taint if you want to avoid the cost of using mixers. I've always been paranoid of mixers, worried that I'll get back dirtier coins than I put in. :P

TOR browser is not always helpful; you simply won't be able to access some websites if you use it, so it depends more on your country's legal regulations of the internet and cryptocurrencies.
Also note that state regulations might differ in different countries regarding gambling and regarding Bitcoin (Bitcoin might be legal, while gambling isn't, for example).
Anyway, using Tor doesn't really give you absolute anonymity online, it's more of a myth  :-\

Exactly. Obfuscating your IP address is pointless if at the end of the line you have a physical address or a bank account with your name on it. However where there is no such private data available, it is still imaginable that exchanges could be asked to hand over your IP address. For these cases TOR is definitely useful.

I was thinking of that scenario as well. Some exchanges I’ve seen are based in EU countries, like Germany and UK, so I suppose they would provide that info. Although I think that would only be the case as for individual requirements of certain persons being investigated by authorities.

When it comes to provide data from all users, I think if governments pass laws on regulation in the future and exchanges are required to provide that data, it is quite likely that they will start providing it after regulation, the same way as it happened with gambling sites regulation.

I'm pretty sure that non-EU and non-US exchanges would also cooperate with law enforcements if the right agencies came knocking. Even if the exchanges don't cooperate there's always the chance of servers getting seized and logs being analyzed. However that would be the extreme cases, I suppose.

I've been able to find everything I'm looking for on the normal web, and I've never had a problem with betting. So far, I've used Tor at the first sign-off, it's a slow, cumbersome browser, then I deleted it.

Before I've used Tor for bad intentions and because of curiousity on how does deepweb differ from what is filtered on the surface. I have seen much evil that im not gonna go back again. If you're in a country that restrict gambling online, I think vpn is enough that my friend does the same. Tor network won't insure anonymity or any kind of virtual private network won't help you hide your true identity if in your own your not careful with it. Bitcoin address is highly traceable and if without proper mixing of address and vpn it won't work. A simple mistake will trigger more damage that you won't know.

Its been a while since ive taken a dive on Tor. for one, its slow as fuck for me usually, im on a metered connection that sucks and tor struggles at best. but mainly, there is nothing of substance on tor. not really into child porn or dark markets, and thats pretty much the whole of it, from my experience. its pretty much poison because people dont use that hidden space to share esoteric knowledge; they use it to persue corruption and mammon. we get another library of alexandria, and we use it to sell pot for digital currency  :-\

That's horible, deepweb is like a demon nest below the church(internet). I can't even used my own camera on that sites, those being sold are too much to swallow. Those sites should remain under because as human I don't want my children and other innocent one be aware of how evil can this world we're living in. Using tor in deepweb is not a child play to begin with and hope they know what the consequences when doing so. But using Tor outside deepweb is okay with me.

I took a tour on TOR out of curiosity and see it first hand, Well I also didn't like what I see and I'm afraid that my laptop will be infected by malware or something. Its good to sometimes go and see what you can't see in the internet. But I don't think its completely anonymous as well or conceal your identity using it. And if you going to used it for gambling then I think a good VPN will do + a trusted mixing services to add another layer of concealment and usage from anyone who wish to track or trace your gambling activity.

But I still love to use TOR as my current browser because the security level one can get it very rare in any other browser.

I can't say that Tor and dark web is good or bad! may be sometime people wants to share some valuable information across the globe anonymously like vigilantly and this tor is the only way left for them but at the same time they can use it to do some bad or worst things. its like a free weapon where you know for certain what should one do.

There is a large difference between using TOR only to finally exit to clearnet, and using TOR all the way to the final destination (conducting business with a fully onion site).  Exiting into clearnet defeats many of the strengths of onion.  I am talking about legal stuff not "kiddie crap".  A well constructed site running in onion doesn't even disclose where the site is physically running.  Yep, lots of stupid OPSec errors allow them to be found, but correctly setup ones remain "dark" in cyberspace.  That is where I want my LEGAL mixer to be located.  You can't grab a server if you don't know where it is.  If you think servers aren't getting grabbed by adversaries, even though they conduct 100% legal operations, you are just naive.  So yes I do use TOR.  I am inside a linux VM on TOR making this post, as an example.

i use tor on surfing the deep web but i havent try tor on surfing blocked sites by government or isp. although ive been using a virtual private network to acces gambling sites therefore i wont be banned by my isp because i see that this is illegal on our country and theres a fine for violating this rules if you get caught.

Like anyone else, I'm one of those people who are so conscious about my privacy and personal identity by in the end I keep revealing myself in the eye of those who are good to it. Tor may be a good help to that but because of low internet connection in my country/place it's hard to used it daily. So I just keep myself away from suspicious activity for me not to hide anymore.

the security level you get using TOR browser only is not enough to keep your online indentity hidden
there were many security leaks, allegedly, some even say backdoors for the agenices in the TOR browser
so I would not feel safe using TOR for anything illegal
if the big brother wants to trace you,you will get rtaced TOR or no TOR
you can use TOR as a free VPN for regular internet surfing though, comes at a price of lower speeds and less browser functionality

I think you probably heard wrong. Tor onion routing was developed in the mid-1990s by the United States Naval Research Laboratory. It has been principally funded by the US government, so I would be more inclined to worry about cooperation with various US law enforcement agencies (not the Russian FSB).

Due to various vulnerabilities that were exploited over the years, and the fact that governments can run exit nodes themselves, I would not expect Tor to provide full anonymity. It can be useful, but it's advisable to use additional tools to secure your privacy.

You got it right :D That's what we are as people. You probably know that porn is the most viewed and searched thing in the Internet. It has always been this way.
There's so much knowledge in the web that you could spend your whole life reading and learning, but people prefer to spend their time watching stupid pics on 9gag and jacking off.
As for TOR, if you aren't paranoid about your security and don't want to buy drugs or guns, you don't need it. VPN should be enough.

Yes, I'm using TOR. Right now I'm abroad for an indefinite period and I don't want my identity to be exposed. I also use ProtonMail for maximum security. I'm not interested in DarkWeb and DeepWeb so I don't browse them. TOR for me is a tool which allows me to be anonymous on the Internet. I think I'm going to run a node in the future. What do you think about hosting one on OVH dedicated server?

I've surfed deepweb once, there's nothing scary and to worry about, and ofcourse I always follow the guidance to make sure my safety, and holy shit, there's so many illegal porn content there people said but will never visit it though. and also, it seems that the deepweb itself is just bunch of people who want to try something different, nothing as scary as what people said.
and one thing, what's the deal of hackers knowing your address tho.

Tor does not make you completely invisible. If your country banned the use of bitcoin then you will find. But sometimes it so happens that to find a person more than not to search at all. I think that person is easier to find then when it changes bitcoin for Fiat. Banks keep track of such operations and can pass this information to the competent authorities. In our time it is impossible to be completely anonymous.

When you hope for something that will protect you from being tracked by third party software you are deeply mistaken. If the government wants to track you they will do it. Each person must decide for themselves supports it bitcoin or not. If you support you have to be ready to defend their rights.

As quite a few of you gamble in cryptos casinos from countries where gambling is forbidden, I was wondering if you use TOR to hide your identity. Or if you use it as well, even if you don’t gamble, to avoid your movements being traced when operating with btc and other cryptocurrencies.

I had use it once but because I was not even getting the benefit of it. It was because I wanted to access a site to benefit from it but I couldnt eventually. TOR has been so efficient in keeping identity anonymous and because gambling is not illegal in my country of residence, I really dont have the need to continue its use.

Avoiding movement being traced as a result of using btc will mean more to what using BTC for just normal purposes. Over here there is no law to say you cant use BTC and for that, I dont see anyone tracking my activities. I dont commit fraud neither do I engage in hacking activities.

I'm using Vypr VPN and I am happy with it.
I use TOR only when I want to browse underground sites.

I feel you, only those who has the guts to go beyond the surface (search engine) filtered  and into the deep web with much safety precautions must be allowed. It is something we and I should discourage on accessing by our children and those teenagers who have small knowledge on .onion sites.

Tor is not really a bad thing that is for sure, but on how or where you used it is a different stories. If in accessing it is just for learning purposes or experience it’s much better but if and only reason your visiting there is to make illegal transactions is on your own risk alone.

I know that NBI and Cyber crime division is monitoring that sites after the Silkroad controversy and I think it was shutdown. But correct me if I’m wrong, haven’t been there for years now and no plan to be back.

I never used Tor before, but if I install Tor will I be able to play normally in casinos where now I have restrictions?

It all depends on the rules of the casino site which you visit. There are sites that you can't track but they see that you use TOR and will not give you the opportunity to register an account. If a site uses to bind to account your IP address then you will also be a problem when using TOR. You need to check and only then pay a small sum to the balance.

I don’t really know because I haven’t used Tor that much but what I can tell you is that it has some privacy options so if you go for the highest privacy you probably won’t be able to run some features because, for example, JavaScript doesn’t work. You will probably be able to access some forbidden sites in your country but authorities could see that you are using Tor.

I am assuming you talk about casinos where you can play without downloading any software, if this was the case I think it would be better to use VPN.

Not just running nodes. DARPA funded TOR in the beginning. If I wanted to keep tabs on criminals and people who don't want me to know about things, I would just tell them that there was no possible way for me to track them if they used a certain program.

Using tor is just an illusion of your safety network. Even if you use VPN it does not give you a 100% guarantee from the fact that you can keep track of the government and hackers. People who use such primitive methods to anonymously visit the Internet most often fall under harassment.

Tor Browser is Not Really A Safe haven of Transactions, Since It Can Be Done With Anonymity and the Same thing Goes Can Be Trace Anonymously. This Browser is Known By Great Agency that always Trace Identity's Like FBI, and Any Government. Many untrusted Sites In Tor Browser Especially Gambling Sites Even Thou you Hide Your Identity Still Not Always A Safe Haven.  In My own Perspective better to Use VPN Than TOR.

Yes, but less than most people might assume, lol.
My most common use of Tor is on open wireless networks.  I know too much about how easy it is for someone with a Raspberry Pi in their pocket to scrape every unencrypted password off the unencrypted WiFi and analyze it all at his or her leisure, and Tor encrypts that first hop.

Do you lived in a country where Internet is censored or somewhat controlled by your government? Because you can browse or surf from around the globe without using Tor.

I only used Tor once or twice. Just for experienced to see how dark web looks and feels like. Well others used it to hide and protect their privacy. But as far as online gaming for me, I don't used it because I lived today in a country where Bitcoin is legal in a sense, same as online gambling.

It seems to me that it is an illusion of anonymity. Tor cannot protect you. This browser hides your ip address but if you wish you can track. For example, you can try to cheat Google. Or to check on a special website your level of anonymity while using Tor browser.

I doubt that you cant use tor when it comes on accessing gambling sites because once you do set the strongest security of your privacy then it would really turn off some things on your browser which usually on Java thing and to know that some of them would really require this thing for it to run or display. If you do try to input a certain gambling site and you do able to play since it displayed well then youre at luck but I do believe than it would really be on smaller chances because most of the time you would really experience problems accessing them.

He does mean on certain sites that do have country restriction which he can easily make use of Tor to bypass it which is a normal usage of this web browser which do actually helps for you to be untraceable and would hide your true IP. Ive been using this stuff not only on accessing restricted gambling sites but also on surfing into those deeps. I'm an explorer and would like to read up something new out there.

its not really worth the risk and hassle (using tor). to be honest, it is clear that regulators are not yet cracking down on bitcoin gambling, they could shut the site down overnight and seize the funds, the rest is just sorting through who is who (there is the blockchain, a public ledger, and the better of the casinos do basic kyc to cover their asses).

so the best thing you can do at the moment is simply enjoy it while you can. this is clearly illegal, yet there has been no official guidance yet. thrive in the void.

but i think it is unwise to leave winnings on a gambling platform while you are using them, due to my above argument. you never know when the situation will change, and the ease of moving btc off platform will make you feel like an idiot if you fail to do so.  much like an exchange, dont leave funds on a hosted wallet.

be careful.

Its not really necessary to use tor on accessing bitcointalk since you can still use your own regular browser because you arent being restricted on accessing the site.Theres no prohibition unless if your country do have strict implementation on accessing bitcoin-related websites then this is the time you do make use of ToR but as of now i havent heard such country do make prohibitions on this site. Youre just completely bumping a thread sleeping for 2 months and entirely replying non-sense thing on here. Tor is not just purely a deep web browser which being created for that sole purpose only. This is just a typical browser that do have its own capabilities and features when it comes to anonymity but not entirely a hindrance for you on to use it since its your own decision if you do decide to go deeper or not. Accessing gambling sites using these services is a common way even just on vpn browser of common web browsers like opera mini do have their own vpn feature.

As quite a few of you gamble in cryptos casinos from countries where gambling is forbidden, I was wondering if you use TOR to hide your identity. Or if you use it as well, even if you don’t gamble, to avoid your movements being traced when operating with btc and other cryptocurrencies.
If you just want to gamble in crypto casinos while hiding your online identity. I think a secured VPN is more than enough to do so. Tor is specifically if you want to wander around the dark web. A proxy will help you open any banned site quite easily.

The majority of users who have already tried it find it to be not so useful as was expected.

I do not use it because of the weakness of Tor Browser:
Connection less reliable, can be sooner or later even though our Bandwidth is big
Can not be used for p2p Applications like Torrent
By default Tor only protects the default Application. We can use other apps to use Tor Browser, but for the novice user use Tor rather tricky

I dont use TOR browser for now. Gambling is not forbidden here, but running gamble business is crime. However a lot of people avoid the law by establishing game services abroad or by calling it "lottery", noone cares. I have nothing to hide, I play my dark games offline  :)

I don't think Tor is your best option, use a good VPN (nordvpn or similar) and set up several email addresses in made up names and use a number of different accounts for you transaction.

Absolutely not though tor uses to access the deep web , which is so very disturbing though , and yet all the illegal transaction been do on tor web , but then again i don't have the courage to access that website.

And remember that you need to have an right amount of knowledge so your IP address will not take down by some hackers.

I use it, I've learned to use anonymizers for a long time and if I need to see something interesting or ‘legal’ i go to the Tor.

Yes in the Tor network is actually also a website that can only be accessed when using it, and this is called The Deep Internet term. Named the deep internet because everything is hidden and stored deep.

I have tried it once out of curiosity  and I got a little bit scared because I did not know how to use the VPN (I am not sure whether or not the TOR hides your IP address or you should use the VPN when you open it). But either way, I learned many dark stuff and it was quite interesting. However, I did not make any attempt to buy things from the darknet. I just surfed it and read many things just to feed my curiosity. But it was such a good experience.

I'm not gambling and I use bitcoin just to invest in the long run, and I think it could be safer than gambling that is very dangerous for the future.

I used to get to some third-party resources, but now there is no special need for this. Yes, and sites see transitions from the Tor.

I have used it but not recently I use a VPN (NordVPN) it's stable and you can pick your country-so I don't think using it to gamble will be a problem

TOR is more used in the gambling industry because most of the people were from banned countries but still they can gamble by using darknet.Ofcourse no one can trace us there is no identity will be there to trace so if you want to buy some illegal things or explore some illegal contents then you can use it. :D

I just want to ask you a question, my teacher said that in order to use TOR browser we should buy it from the internet. So I got curious, I research it and I saw that it is a freeware or its just a lite version of the Famouse browser. I ask you becasue I can see that you are the only one who can give such good answer. :). Thanks

Tor is a free browser, but it will not give you an absolute guarantee of security on the network. If you need access to pages that block in your country is a good choice. But if you need to ensure your anonymity on the Internet then this is not the best way. Some sites block access through this browser.

Not only the risk on using up Tor Browser because some ISP do really make monitoring for those people who do make use of this browser. Shocking right? But they can actually do such thing specially if the government of your country is really strict when it comes to this matter. Anonymity cant really completely would be hidden on using up Tor, if you are a tech savvy you can make some settings or add ons to make it more effective. This would be only good if you do have only a minor purpose on accessing some sites.
