Title: Are you OK with Bitcoin being called a token?
Post by: Real_Person on September 21, 2017, 12:40:23 PM
FAQ:
Why is this an issue?
Bitcoin is the proud leader, "tokens" are for the ETH Bubble Game. Calling Bitcoin a token is not even technically correct. That does matter to some people.

``````````````
OP
Popular use of the word "token", in this community, is/was related to "ETH ICO bubble things", not the creation of Satoshi known as Bitcoin.
BTC = Bit COIN not Bit Token
"...bitcoin closed Tuesday at $4,009 per token — twice its price in July..."
i do not really care about them calling it Token,Precious Metal,Food or whatever.
sometimes they might be misspelled it because of lack of knowledge or differentiation in their view with us.
some of them think it was not a coin but instead it was a token or something like that.
for example look at that media and the publisher Jon Swartz,
based on his past article,seems like it was the first time he created this topic.
and i am really sure he told us that Bitcoin in form of 'Token' because of drama happened in the Chinese.
banning the ICOs based on Ethereum aka Token.
Are you OK with Bitcoin being called a token?
It doesn't matter to me, those people that don't really know what bitcoin is will it as sort of token. No heart feelings bitcoin will be as is.
Do you need to be sent to crypto re-education camp?  :D
If that is for free then I would be willing to be in there.  ;D
I think it is called Bitcoin for a reason and not a token but I really don't care whatever they call but I would suggest they would just stick to its original name. And for as long as Bitcoins price or value stays the same then I really don't bother about what it will be called.
people can call things whatever they like. they call bitcoin a "revolution", "get rich quick" and "to da moon",... others call it "ponzi", "fraud", "bubble",... and lots of things. none of them change anything about what bitcoin really is.
but it shows how poorly some people are educated. and how poor some of these articles are written by these poorly educated people.
People have problem acknowledging what bitcoin is right now, a currency or an investment and you come with another idea?
You can call it digital gold or cryptogold or anything else cause it really acts like one but a token is a bit far fetched.
But that won't be a problem.
Before anything else BTC is called bitcoin and 99% of it's users don't give a damn what it is as long as it does it's job.
Bitcoin is a coin but works like token. sometimes people thinks that coin must have physical form and bitcoin have none, in other hand token, don't have physical form and just a number really like bitcoin, no doubt that people who are not really into crypto world might be confused by this, even many people are also thinking that bitcoin is like mobile phone balance, that's absurd but real.
tbh, im ok with what bitcoin will be called by people, lol.
People can call bitcoin on names they want. Whatever it is. What's important is  how I treat bitcoin personally. For me it is the most valuable cryptocurrency that I would love to have. And I guess many of bitcoin users wont even care about it too. This is not actually a big deal since we know what really bitcoin is.
I don't like Bitcoins or any crypto currencies being called tokens.  I prefer to think of them as currencies/coins/money/cash  to me, tokens are those things you get and the funfair from the penny machines to save up for a cat shaped pencil eraser!
They can call is a pustulous blue waffle for all I care. Token? Who cares?
It's bitcoin to those in the know, and it's not even a coin as we normally think of them, so it really shouldn't even be referred to as that.  It's not even a token, nor are the other cryptocurrencies!  Wrap your head around that.  I've never actually seen bitcoin called a tojen anyway.  It's a nonissue for me.
Well as long as we know it's use and we know how to use and have it,then everything the want to call on it will be fine. There are alts that are called tokens especially when they came from ICO .
No matter what they call bitcoin as, what matters is that if we can really enjoy from the bitcoin. They can lower the class of bitcoin, they can call it as token, this doesn't change anything, any perception.
No, it suits better for the altcoins that don't even have a working product.
Calling it an asset or currency suits better. It gives an idea of something that is not only scarce, but also valuable and that has very important use cases.
Look, i may sound like an overreacting monkey by saying this but, I am really not okay woth bitcoin being called a token. I strongly disagree with it. Even the thought alone makes me feel bad. Because i love bitcoin. I reapect it as much as i respect the one who made it(satoshi) together with its rich history that shped it to what it is today. So call me anything you want but i will still not favor anyone calling bitcoin a token. It is just wrong.
Bitcoins can be called token. And I also do not care about calling this token. Because whatever we make is just like the coins and tokens. There is also no problem calling this token. And even though I sometimes called it a token. So let's not waste time with these things. This is my only opinion and if there is a better explanation I will not fight it anymore but I will also listen to your statements
Yeah, in the end, it's just semantics. I know the most hardcore advocates cringe at every news item aired on mainstream media. There's so much to learn and pick apart. Even I find it a minefield sometimes to comment... I remember being picked apart when I couldn't distinguish between Bitcoin and bitcoin!
The internal workings of a technology as "matured" as the Internet will always be misunderstood and misrepresented... but it doesn't matter. That's perhaps a price of mainstream adoption.
Doesn't make any sense to me  how they call bitcoin, a token or a coin. Anyway people brand something based on their value in their lives. If bitcoin doesn't make much impact in their lives, naturally they will devalue it by calling it even a crap. But to someone who's benefitted too much and their live's been changed because of bitcoin, it's understandable they call it much better than just a token.
It is absolutely fine with me somebody calls Bitcoin- token, however, by doing so they actually demonstrate the lack of their knowledge in the sphere, which discredits what they are talking about, no matter how logical it might seem. On the other hand, it's not an awful mistake of course, but sometimes it can be unpleasant
It can be called shit for all I care, I will buy, I will hold and I will keep using it. In some ways, it is a token. And part of bitcoins beauty is that people just cannot make up their minds on what it is.
It does not matter to me too, sometimes people tend to use words to easily explain something that is quite hard to explain technically.  As long as Bitcoin function as it is, the name or the aliases used for it does not matter.  It is even called the digital gold because of its capability to store value and we have no issue about that.  So I guess calling bitcoin "token" as form of comparison how bitcoin works is fine to me.
It's a valid question, and defining your terms is important. But it
doesn't hurt BTC in any way, no matter what you call it. Call it a
shoe, it's still $4k.
The risk you run into by using terms interchangeably is things
that aren't as good being called the same thing, giving it a false
veneer of utility or respectability. Like OneCoin, nothing but a Ponzi
scheme, but so many people were/are just interested into getting
into the new hottness without doing any research of their own,
making the lazy decision and ending up getting screwed. We've seen
these things come and go in this ecosystem, and you always get
the newcomers saying things like "I got mine, so I don't care if it's
a Ponzi", justifyingother people getting ripped off in favor of themselves.
But as we know about Ponzis, they are only sustainable for so long,
then everyone's fucked.
I kinda flew off on a tangent there. I guess my point is call BTC
whatever you want. It's not actually a token, nor is it actually a coin.
It's a method of bookkeeping. Know your basics before buying based
on a name or label.
The one with little bit of knowledge about cryptocurrency will never refer bitcoin as token, token means something created as sidechain over mainchain of another cryptocurrency. Like many tokens are created as sidechains of waves and ETH main chain.
Bitcoin should always be referred as king of crypto.
It does not really matter, but there is a difference between a "coin" and "token" tokens are usually useless.
But they are both cryptocurrencies.
a coin has more functions usually. Unless someone codes a really good token.
Is this really a big deal? It's not making sense. Just let it that and don't stressed out.
As long as we/they know what it were referring then we can called it whatever we want. For a newcomer that wil encountered that called for bitcoin, well a real seeker will find it's way to know what a thing is really all about so in the end they will realized the appropriate term.
That doesn't matter. Bitcoin or token or whatever they call it. It is still valuable digital asset. It's just a mistake from a reporter. They don't really know bitcoin that's why they say things like that. It's better to call bitcoin a token than call it a scam. I doesn't matter to me what people treat bitcoin. As long as it gives me profit. I'll be fine.  But the reporter should do a deeper study before publishing. They looked like  noobs
Yeah, I also think this person would be demonstrating lack of knowledge about it. In this thread only I have seen a lot of more appropriate names for it: currency, cryptocurrency, digital currency, asset, digital asset or the simplest one, coin.
Isn't bitcoin a token technically? It is a reward given to the miners for maintaining, inserting blocks into the blockchain. But we can use it as a currency because we can buy things and services thru it. So, it does not matter if they call it token or coin. It is still bitcoin to us.
From what I know, token is something you use to represent something else, and which would be used for you to redeem this something else.
Currency is something you use to exchange for anything else.
I don't care whatever you called it, as long as it serves my purpose I don't see any problem with that. I haven't heard anyone here in the forum calling bitcoin a token though. The world token only existed in the altcoins. As long as bitcoin serves my purpose like having it converted to "physical" fiat and I can do whatever I want, I guess its OK with me. Don't make things complicated here, just focus on building your "token" and try to accumulate as you can.
They can call it whatever they want, but I prefer bitcoin be called a currency. A word token to me is not a currency, it is a thing entitled to exchange it for a particular product.
Technically a BTC isn't a token. There was no ICO to crowdfund that technology. The initial cost of a BTC was 'undetermined'
It is not being considerated as a token anymore, financial bussiness are starting to consider it as a normal currency, only that it is a digital one.. Only ico's have tokens, and probably a ninety percent of the altcoin market is considered as a token, because those coins were crowdfunded and they had an ico, that is why they are tokenized.
For me it doesnt really matter how someone would like to call bitcoin.
They may call it anything that they seem fit to call it,  it doesnt really matter because it wont affect the price of bitcoin.
As long they know how to use it and what it is for would be more beneficial than controling what they wanted to call it.
But if you really dont want someone valling bicoin as a token then i think you should start to educate them why itisnt fit to call it as token.
I think bitcoin its now a token, and it is a coins not a token. But it depends to the people what they going to called token or coins.
And the important on this is the value and you can convert it to cash.
as i know bitcoin is a digital currency used as an investment and trading in crypto currency where so bitcoin is equated with other altcoin and called token which is new coin issued by new developer in a project. But to me no problem bitcoin called token because the most important bitcoin can provide more value for our family economy.  ;D
No. I don't care about the ins and outs, it's a shit word. When Poloniex started referring to themselves as a blockchain token platform it really got on my nerves.
Token
1.
a thing serving as a visible or tangible representation of a fact, quality, feeling, etc.
2.
a voucher that can be exchanged for goods or services, typically one given as a gift or forming part of a promotional offer.
Neither definition smells of Bitcoin to me.
It doesn't matter if it's called a token. Cash is a token. A ten dollar note, a two pound coin, they have no value in the metal... They are representative of value, or a token.
I think bitcoin could be called a token, but a token that has the highest price among other tokens. But that does not mean bitcoin has properties like other tokens, which is easy to get. If that happens then we'll all be rich, but that's bitcoin, how to get it is a bit harder than other tokens, and that's what makes bitcoin feel special.
I believe it is not appropriate to call bitcoin as TOKEN because token pertains to smart contract cryptocurrency. There will be a confusion if you call bitcoin as token even other coin. For example you cant call Ethereum as a token because there are lots of ethereum smart contract or ethereum token under ethereum. Same with NXT, and WAVES.
Doesn't really matter what it is called but tokens run on the ethereum platform so it would be wrong to call it a token. I don't agree with the idea.
Most times it's better to just call Bitcoin "Bitcoin". It has many properties which can described by words like asset, money, currency, coin, cash, settlement layer, token, and so on; they can be used to emphasize some aspect of Bitcoins nature, but they can't once and for all describe Bitcoin because it can be used in so many different ways that it makes it truly unique - there's simply nothing that comes close to Bitcoin in traditional financial system.
I don't mind really, it's just a name. If it doesn't fit the definition of a currency, the regulators can use other names. They are in a way bound by law not to call it a currency if it hasn't been approved as one in their country (at least in official docs). I prefer when people say it's been trading at $XXX a coin, not a token, but I guess it's whatever suits you.
It does not matter to me what you want to call on Bitcoin like Token, Metal, Digital Money as long that the good reputation and benefits from Bitcoin will not change. Name is just a name it does not change how good Bitcoin is. Even if you will change Bitcoins name it will still useful and in demand to consumers. So dont let if bother you what they want to call to Bitcoin. Lets just wish that Bitcoin will become more and more famous and continue its reputation.
It doesn't matter to me. It does have certain negative connotations, but look at it this way: People who don't know about cryptocurrencies won't be aware of these negative connotations, and those who do know about cryptocurrencies won't care. For as long as we're clear it's not an altcoin fork, there shouldn't be any problems.
There was a discussion here on bitcointalk about the difference between what a Token is and what a Currency is. In that discussion people were saying that a Currency has is acccepted by everyone to make payments, while the Tokens are beiung accepted by a small group of people. The tokens are given by a website or a company. Bitcoin has already proved that is a Currency and not a Token, it is accepted worldwide.
Personally, I don't have any issues if someone is calling it a token, coin or a cryptocurrency as far as they are not calling it 'Currency of Justin Biber Fans'. Jokes apart, I really don't care about it because we know the importance of the blockchain technology and thus Bitcoin is equally respected as a first product of it irrespective of what we are calling it. Most of the users will call it a Bitcoin, outsiders might call it a token but at the end, it will be worth it's price.
Let them call bitcoin whatever they want to call it. What's more important is that bitcoin is used everyday by more people around the world for day-to-day ordinary transactions. And we can all contribute in this by requesting your favorite business establishments to accept bitcoin as a mode of payment, so that you can use your bitcoins for them (and while you're at it, tell them of all the advantages / benefits of using bitcoin).
Once bitcoin use has become completely mainstream, there won't be anymore confusion as to whether bitcoin is just a "token," or a revolutionary currency that can put to an end even the oldest and most established fiat currencies.
To be fair, Bitcoin Cash was created out of thin air. So was CLAMS. And from the look of it, there will be many more, with Bitcoin Gold coming next. After the fork block, they are mined, but "being a mineable cryptocurrency" is a pretty low bar to set. If you give me a few bucks, I can give you copy/paste code to launch your own coin, too! But unless you can convince people to use it, it won't have any value.
I don't have any problem with the "token" label. It's not really much different from "coin" is it? We don't like the association with ICO tokens, sure, but as far as the English language goes, is it really inaccurate?
in the end it doesn't matter as long as it doesn't catch on! which i don't see it catch on so far. so we are good.
In my little group that I chat and trade with I would likely correct a new guy, to help him out, but if he or anyone wants to call it a token, more power to them.
The day when a persons words takes money from me, that is the day that something strange has occurred.
Not at all. The same way that you can call the FIAT in my bank account anything you want. Especially when these words come from well outside the crypto world. In my little group that I chat and trade with I would likely correct a new guy, to help him out, but if he or anyone wants to call it a token, more power to them.
The day when a persons words takes money from me, that is the day that something strange has occurred.
Actually for me bitcoin being called a token or a coin doesn't really matter as long as the value won't be affected of it. I've search the difference being a coin and a token and I can say bitcoin can be somewhere between it. Coin is something that has been issued by the government that has value which bitcoin is just something that has value but it's issued by the government rather by a group or an individual which is one of the key point of a token ,so yeah, its somehow a coin and a token. Anyway, it's a cryptocurrency that has no physical shape or thing since its a online money.
I don't mind if there's people who call it token as long as they understand about it and the meaning stays the same, it's just a name, the value is still the same and people still believe in it.
I agree with this, because right before the first time bitcoin became so expensive, it has been rewarded on every miners and programmers as a token reward for their works. And remember that by definition, token is a reward or issued price from a group or individual. So generally bitcoin is a token, but a token with a very high value because of great demand.
Well, it doesn't really matter whether you call it a token or not, the thing that matters is you know the gap in significance and advantages between bitcoin and other coins (in short, the difference of the two). For me, bitcoin is not just a token, I prefer to call it a "money" because it already exceed the capabilities of a token. Bitcoin is so powerful that it can do what a fiat money can do compare to the hundreds of new tokens spreading in the market that you still need to convert to btc first in order to become more beneficial.
It's ok to bitcoin being called a token but always remember that bitcoin is always in the top so you should stop to compare it to other tokens because they are not on the same level. Bitcoins already have a legacy which others don't have.
It doesn't really matter to me what it's called as lonh as everyone recognizes and distinguishes it as money. Bitcoin for.me is catchy on itself token kind of sounds premium. Anyway, no matter what it is called, as long as it makes a lot of money to people, you can call it whatever you want.
Well I think bitcoin is a digital currency and world know bitcoin as a coin not as a token it don’t make sense for me when we call bitcoin as a token it’s a currency where you can exchange or can buy things to use word toke for bitcoin I think it will de value bitcoin so I think we need to give respect to bitcoin and I think bitcoin deserved for it.
In my opinion, this is not entirely normal, if you call a bitlock a token. Bitcoin is the first crypto currency known to the whole world and therefore it occupies a special place in the world of crypto currency. All other coins mined or released as a result of the ICO should be called altcoyins. Coins issued during the ICO are also called  tokens.
I agree. It doesn't matter what talk called let's not get hung up on names. Arguing about what it  really should be called or how it works and how that effects what it should be called should update not be and never be a priority. The priority is to collect Bitcoin.
You should just call it an alt coin
I do not even care if they called it tolen because whatever they calls it, they are still the moat successful token on this business. The most important thing is on how their career go in this business in this industry not on how they've been called. Because even though thwy called it a token so what? At least the other tokens cannot curpass them at this moment because they are dominating the whole people around the world and that is the most important. I don’t really mind bitcoin be called token. What ever they want to call it is fine and whatever names they come up to will not change the fact that it is now the most successful in the market. As long as bitcoin helps people financially, naming it as token will not matter at all. Jsut focus on what good it will bring you in the future and not the names that arises along the way.
It is ok that Bitcoin would be called token because token is just another termfor currency exclusivein a certain place or environment like fun houses and amusement parks. Yet, it is somehow unpleasant to hear the word token in a coin that's the price is higher than any other currency.
Bitcoin being a token has been used in the past, and now things has changed a lot. During those days it was used as an storage token that can be used to hold amounts in a virtual manner. People preferred for tax evasion and now this is not found much, because the intention of holding bitcoin at present is based on the growth it provides.
It doesn't matter to me whatever they call bitcoin. They can call it anything they want to call it. That's their opinion and we have nothing to do about that. As long as it wont affect it's price. But i think it's wrong to bitcoin a token because it's a digital currency which you can also buy something using it. But as long we benefits from bitcoin. It doesn't matter how they see it or what they call it. A token, a coin or currency. As long as they buying and using bitcoin, o don't mind that. But still they have to be educated about this.
I think what they are trying to point out is that some people misunderstood BTC if it is called a token.
For example : hey do you know the Bitcoin token
Man 2: I don't know about it man, is that some king of token in an amusement park?
So it is being misunderstood, but if you call it cryptocurrency, people will ask you what is cryptocurrency bro. And the explanation is on.
Like what Google have said:
a thing serving as a visible or tangible representation of a fact, quality, feeling, etc.
According to the meaning of it, BTC is suitable to be called a token, a token for the representation of the gold of the internet. It's a symbol that is saying : BTC token "The beginning of cryptocurrencies". ;)
As "Coin" is even in the name of Bitcoin, I always refer to Bitcoin as a coin. Actually I refer to all Crypto that are a currency of some sort (own blockchain most of the time) as coin and I use the term token for other cryptos like utility tokens or equitity tokens, as they have another use case than that of a currency. I personally do this distinction, but I dont care much if other people do it or not. As long as I understand what is meant, Im alright with whatever terminology.
Bitcoin is a digital currency system it name call it as bitcoin wallet like that and it is fully online process like trading and mining and all so it call as token are not a problem to all it change like a token only a problem to us because it fully transfer digital currency to local currency and it too easy all currency to currency , compare currency to token is little difficult to change as currency it's take a time too.
It is the value that matters for me.
Although it is also good to have a wall between a coin and a token to avoid confusion for the people.
I think there is already a child board for altcoin tokens that also explains what is the difference between the two.
So we should also be careful about the terms we use right now.
It is not a big deal for me whether others call it coin or token. As long as it has value, then I do not care.  :D
Coin and token are very similar in nature, and each of us has its own perception. So it is up to us what we call it.
Well i dont care. They can call bitcoin whatever they want but bitcoin will still remain bitcoin the well established coin and leading the cryptocurrency, they should know this fact. People calling btc as token has no idea about its history. What really matter is we users know the worth of bitcoin and enjoying the perks of having it while people who dont understand btc missed this opportunity.
no, bitcoin is not suitable if the token is made, because bitcoin is the digital currency and as the core of the tokens, tokens are just fractions of the core coin, if you call the token you can call the existing altcoin based on the smart contract that produces a new coin and it's call tokens.
Or course yes because this is not a fiat actually it called token because the value is volatile and more profitable than fiat money but instead of token it called digital currency so you need an internet to get this or you can convert it into fiat.
The main thing is the value of the bitcoin in market and its high rising rate in the market too. If anybody call bitcoin a token or any thing other it doesn't matter to the user of the bitcoin, the main thing which matter most is the value of the bitcoin in the market. Hi there Real_Person! For me it is more necessary if the cryptocurrency and even alt coins be called coins rather than token. Coins sound great and is referring to a currency, it directly point to a decimal or small amount of value in a certain currency. Just what most of the average bitcoin holder, they hold less than hundreds of bitcoin thus coins is what I preferred most. However, when we say token, it could be a certain object that holds a meaningful value and we can’t directly see it as a currency.  ;)
I don't really care whatever people call them as long as it's value is really not depreciated or sets lose just because of this. In my mindset stop worrying about these things because there are bigger problems that we are facing in our investment than these. Bitcoins becoming does not really matter as long as we can still earn the same amount as what is the value before in the market, If they are going to change the name then i hope there are more advantages that will be coming from it.
it really doesn't matter much, token is just a way to describe bitcoin many years ago when bitcoin is still not on exchanges, and when a token can appear on the exchange, they will be called a coin, so bitcoin is the case too, so it is not important much about the name, as long as the price keep rising i feel ok with that.
For me it is more fundamental if the cryptographic money and even alt coins be called coins as opposed to token. Coins sound extraordinary and is alluding to a money, it specifically point to a decimal or little measure of significant worth in a specific cash. Exactly what the greater part of the normal bitcoin holder, they hold under several bitcoin consequently coins is the thing that I favored most. Nonetheless, when we say token, it could be a sure question that holds a significant esteem and we can't specifically consider it to be a cash.
So as long as I understand what people are trying to say Im okay with whatevery term they use. People on this forum arent representative for me. I am 100% fine with bitcoin being called a token and in my mind that is
what it is. A tomen does not have to be something physical.
The word "bitcoin" is like a brand name so we can use both terms to
describe it.
A simple google search describes what a token can be >
token
/ˈtəʊk(ə)n/
noun
    a thing serving as a visible or tangible representation of a fact, quality, feeling, etc.
    a voucher that can be exchanged for goods or services, typically one given as a gift or forming part of a promotional offer.
    an individual occurrence of a symbol or string, in particular:
    a sequence of bits passed continuously between nodes in a fixed order and enabling a node to transmit information.
adjective
done for the sake of appearances or as a symbolic gesture.
It will not be good to call Bitcoin a token instead of the coin which it is meant to be. The bitcoin white paper gives an express illustration on bitcoin to be a coin and not a token. Ethereum has to do with token and Ether is not Bitcoin so token cannot be used for bitcoin. Tokenizing bitcoin will actually make bitcoin less quality. And again what is the name Bitcoin and it is not bittoken so it can never be.
people can call things whatever they like. they call bitcoin a "revolution", "get rich quick" and "to da moon",... others call it "ponzi", "fraud", "bubble",... and lots of things. none of them change anything about what bitcoin really is.
but it shows how poorly some people are educated. and how poor some of these articles are written by these poorly educated people.
Whatever they call about bitcoin, still it is the most popular digital coin which became the foundation of a crypto currencies and believe on the potential and benefits it bring in the market. It is not even a token, it is a currency which you can buy everything using it.  I am earning bitcoin and also spend it directly differently on what other think that it is a token.
i do not really care about them calling it Token,Precious Metal,Food or whatever.
sometimes they might be misspelled it because of lack of knowledge or differentiation in their view with us.
some of them think it was not a coin but instead it was a token or something like that.
for example look at that media and the publisher Jon Swartz,
based on his past article,seems like it was the first time he created this topic.
and i am really sure he told us that Bitcoin in form of 'Token' because of drama happened in the Chinese.
banning the ICOs based on Ethereum aka Token.
I agree with you, because of the lack of knowledge of one person sometimes they just naming it the way they know one object, so it is not a good idea on having lack of knowledge on something. Today, searching it on google is an easiest way to know bitcoin and other things, sometimes we need to use it to clarify something.
There is nothing wrong and I am okey if others called bitcoin as token , the characteristic of bitcoin does not affect on what name it will be called , altcoins come from tokens but they are all cryptos , so even if it will be called token as long as the price value of it in the market will not change then it is still good.
Oh, naturally, Bitcoin nature does not depend on the name of this cryptocurrency. Although it is not a token, it does not matter. Anyway people calling BTC token are simply guys without enough knowledge.
I think bitcoin could be called a token, but a token that has the highest price among other tokens. But that does not mean bitcoin has properties like other tokens, which is easy to get. If that happens then we'll all be rich, but that's bitcoin, how to get it is a bit harder than other tokens, and that's what makes bitcoin feel special.
I think bitcoin can be called a token because bitcoin is not a flat money it is just a virtual money. Not a real money but can use in any transactions online and using any medium of transaction.
I really dont know what's the difference of the terms token and coin here in crypto world. Can someone explain me what would it be? Just to make it clearer.
I disagree with this idea of yours. I think Bitcoin must be called coin since it has its own platform and there are a lot of Altcoins developers based on it's a platform. Altcoins developed by any currency is called a token. I think my reasoning is right.
Although some school of thought believe that the name you give to things affects them either positively or negatively but i think at this point in time it is totally immaterial, whether it is called a token or Bitcoin  what maters is the market value
I do not think it has a big impact if bitcoin will called a token, no matter what kind of name to be called for bitcoin ,it does not make bitcoin down , as long as its price value ,does not change it will not matter ,even if others only say that it is a token.
No, not at all. A token is clearly defined as a digital asset which doesn't have his own blockchain. Bitcoin runs on its own blockchain and hence cannot be called token.
Bitcoin is not a token at all, and in this topic has already been written many times why it can not be called that. But it doesn't really matter what they call it. It still remains a unique technology.
I only once heard someone call a bitcoin "token". But this man is absolutely not versed in cryptocurrency and is just beginning to study this topic. So I don't think we really need to pay attention to this point. The essence of bitcoin still does not change.
Of course I'm fine. The only frustrating thing is that not all people want to study bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, so they can mistakenly call bitcoin a token. But I hope that novice investors will carefully study the technology and will not make such reservations.
Honestly, I don't agree if bitcoin is said to be a token. I prefer bitcoin as a crypto currency coin. If the token, the connotation is less convincing. I consider tokens only as gifts from bounty campaigns or coins offered by ICO only. I prefer if bitcoin is called a coin. In my opinion the name of the coin has been attached to bitcoin so as a crypto currency holder and player, I am more familiar with calling bitcoin a token. But all that goes back to market policy. I just say my opinion. I prefer if bitcoin is called a coin. But if the market calls bitcoin a token and some crypto currency players agree then I can't move much. I can only follow market policies because everything is regulated by the market. That is a bit of my sharing. I hope that bitcoin is always called crypto currency coin.
I think what ever they called to bitcoin like coin or token its alright because the important to this business is how manage and how you grow your investment in bitcoin. And I think people not look to what people called in bitcoin because the important to them is their investment.
I don't agree if a Bitcoin is called a token. Because coins and tokens are different. coins are the original assets of the blockchain itself. Think about Bitcoin, Litecoin, or Ether. Each of these coins is on their own blockchain. Whereas tokens are made on the existing blockchain. The most common blockchain token platform is Ethereum. However, there are others like NEO, Waves, Lisk, and Stratis. Tokens on the Ethereum platform are known as ERC-20 tokens. Meanwhile, NEO uses tokens known as NEP-5 tokens.
Anyone can make their own special tokens on one of these platforms.
Maybe when bitcoin price drop and have been under $2,000 I will agree call bitcoin as token, how can to say bitcoin if price really drop and cheap like altcoin price, I hope bitcoin could be back at higher price again.
For me, in my own opinion and own desire inside of me, I don't want Bitcoin to be called a token in the coming future. I want this Bitcoin to remain as it is as a crypto currency that brings all out here in the crypto world. So, my answer is, I don't definitely agree to this.
I am not ok with that. There is some Bitcoin token which is kind of shitcoin.
By the way, tokens are not just made on Ethereum, there are other blockchains too.
Whatever they say, for me bitcoin is still bitcoin. Media like that only search for visitors to their blogs by creating articles. Don't be easily influenced by such media, keep believing in yourself.
Well, but surely bitcoin will not be called a token because it is released and based on the blockchain technology, it has very special features to solve different problems, it works independently and has its own wallet, we all know very clearly this issue. While if it is a token, it will not own these because the token is always issued based on the basis of certain coin, and tokens are usually stored on a separate wallet in the base platform, all of this is enough to prove that bitcoin is not a token
I do not agree because bitcoin is actually a digital currency different from tokens such as a collection of coins like games but this bitcoin is not the same as the other tokens in my opinion
Yes its actually a digital token, can be divided into 100000000 units called satoshi.
But. It has more value than money due to proof of work and existence.
It makes no difference to me, as people call Bitcoin. Its value does not change. And the main thing that I myself call correctly.
I agree, I think whatever other people call to it won't have effect in me since it doesn't affect its value and usage. It seems like being immature or being Over acting just because other call it as token. As long as I get profit and it help me financially I will keep believing and holding it.
in my opinion, I still disagree with this assumption because bitcoin is electronic money boosting a token. That is another discussion because it becomes a reference value for exchanging a coin instead of replacing this bitcoin designation.
I do not agree, because bitcoin is a digital currency and can be used for legitimate payments in countries that legalize bitcoin. Bitcoin is bought and sold through various exchange exchanges including Coinbase, and Binance. Whereas tokens represent assets or anything that has a value ascribed to it, but tokens cannot be used as a means of payment because it is not virtual money.
As you have mentioned, Bitcoin is not technically a token. Tokens are different and don't have their own blockchain network. Bitcoin has its own blockchain network which makes it a cryptocurrency. If some publications do it, then they need to re-educate on their cryptocurrency knowledge.
It's absurd calling tokens Ethereum bubble, both bitcoins and altcoins compliment each other. For me I see no problem calling a cryptocurrency token or coin, it takes nothing away from its capabilities.
hmm, as I know that bitcoin is the cryptocurrency and digital currency, and token is the part of the digital currency, like the ethereum smart contracts we can call it token, but for the ethereum, they are the coin, digital currency or cryptocurrency
Anyone can call it with anything, i really don't care as long as i can make my profits:) Everyone know that the bitcoin is the first and the most important coin or the first digital currency, actually i call it "the father of all coins". But as i say what is the difference? Coin or currency or something else. We need to discuss something more important. Can it be about Mr. Satoshi or the big bitcoin holders?
Unbelievable, someone even called Bitcoin a token? They are completely different things. Tokens can even be considered as the lowest level of crypto. Most tokens don't even have their own main chain. They need to be distributed by Ethereum, EOS, etc., and with Bitcoin is not comparable at all.
It's only the ignorant ones that can call bitcoin a token.
A token is a "coin" that is still on ico phase and until it's listed , it remains a token.
Here bitcoin is not on ico phase, it's passed that phase and so it's a coin .
FAQ:
Why is this an issue?
Bitcoin is the proud leader, "tokens" are for the ETH Bubble Game. Calling Bitcoin a token is not even technically correct. That does matter to some people.
``````````````
OP

Popular use of the word "token", in this community, is/was related to "ETH ICO bubble things", not the creation of Satoshi known as Bitcoin.

BTC = Bit COIN not Bit Token
"...bitcoin closed Tuesday at $4,009 per token — twice its price in July..."
https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2017/09/21/bitcoin-buyers-libertarian-bent-drive-prices-records/594971001/
The above is only one of way too many recent examples in the media.

Are you OK with Bitcoin being called a token?
Do you need to be sent to crypto re-education camp?  :D
no, because bitcoin is still declared digital money.
