Please copy\paste web site adress of etherwallet that you are using for this, maybe you use some scam sites looks like myerther.

Whoever that is. They are getting a plenty of transactions everyday. Quick way to get rich. Users beware about where you are making your transactions.

That would be my belief as well.  To OP... did you use a bookmark to get to MEW?  Did you manually type it in... or did you click a link in an email or on a website?  I've seen a few posts about losing coin from a MEW wallet but I've yet to hear it official that it was 'hacked'.

Seem like a huge amount. Whether you're account was compromised or you mistakenly sent those ether to someone else, don't expect that to be returned because I don't think someone in todays generation, he ev3n consider it a blessing like god works in a mysterious ways.

stolen funds is very alarming. Have you transact this few weeks? In etherdelta or something? My friend deposit ebtc in etherdelta after a day he lost his ebtc funds and also some coins in his etherwallet.

It may be due to some where mistakenly miss handling of private key .  So always secure your private key at secret place never place it in google drive.

This is what worry me, i put my Ether in MEW, and the secret key in my pc. If somehow someone find out my secret key, they can transfer money to any account. I think you shouldn't put your secret key file in the pc. Save it in USB or something.

I agree with Zaoxhou that you may download any wallet or cryptorelated software, together with your download and install you will install malware in your PC. I lost about 1000 USD or my token few month ago, and now I use new notebook. I never click slack suspicios links and download cheap fuck new airdrop coins.

This is worrisome and scary at the same time. But according to what you wrote up there, you said you were send to your other wallet, and you open both wallet? Why would you do that!

I heard there was malware going around that modifies your clipboard when it detects a Bitcoin wallet address. So when you copy a wallet address it's different when you paste it. Did you check if the address you pasted was the one you intended to send your ether to? Maybe there is a similar malware for eth.

That Address has taken in $22K in ether over the last few days.  Sucks that people are making money like this.

I see a lot of comments about how concerning and scary this is, but to be honest... I don't feel it.  Based on my experience here, most 'hacks' are due to either a compromised system or user error.  I'm not saying that's the case here, but if you get fearful for every post of missing funds then you should really get out of crypto and put your money in an insured bank.

We all crypto currency is particularly prone to security breaches like this. Having said its important to be fear ' because that will put you in chech' and be daring at the same time. Just know what you are doing. And if you think you've missed it somewhere. Stop! And learn.
 
 

From what it sounds like, you visited a suspicious website and something downloaded onto your computer.

Always make sure that the address you copy and paste is the same address you are sending to.

Visually verify it before you hit send. takin that extra few seconds will help you avoid being hacked in the future.

If you loose not only those eths you tried to send but also other assets in same wallet, you probably entered a fake site. If you only lost those eths you tried to send, you may have a copy paste virus in your computer that changes what you copied with their own wallet adress.

There are so many thiefs nowadays in the ecosystem. Easiest way to get free money is sending some trojans to all over the world by some download programs and inside torrents etc. And they steal from random wallets after...

If you share your Privet key on any ways any scam site or any unknown person,then it's possible.Otherwise it might not be possible.

This is it scammers are everywhere so it is better to be cautious on every websites that we click. Like in slack channel there are always sending messages about myether if you click that link it is possible that all your ether/token may lose.

some hacking people are using slack. they mail to bitcoin talk user and ask for private key and new people in this field reply their private key and get lost their coin through the slack participation. one of my friend have losted their coin last week. so please carefully check the slack email and do not reply your private key to them. good luck.

Most likely you've clicked the link on your email / SLACK Channel. It is known to the community that slack is famous for PHISHING Message / SPAM to trick you to send Ether to X or Y or Z address in order to get FREE AIRDROPS. The name can be the same as the original name/domain ~MYETHERWALLET (e.g. myétherwallet / mÿetherwallet / myetherwaÌÌet / myethërwallet / myetherwàllet ...etc... DO not click any link from any email / slack / telegram channels in the future. These maybe the most common mistakes that newbie / tech savvy users encountered. Always always type it on your browser or do google search on the keywords. Assure that the site is secured with the original MYETHERWALLET LLC Certificate (SSL / Secured page).

Even google search you gotta be careful because nothing is safe. Here's a scenario! When you type myetherwallet, a list will be shown to you and Never ever click on the Google adwords that contains the name of your search terms that could potentially be a malicious site.

It's definitely the 2 second option. He clicked on the phishing website which hackers and scammers send through slack and emails these days. It's easy to recognize the real myetherwallet but still people are careless. Sad to see your loss but it's gone.

Hackers are constantly coming up with new ways of taking other people's money. To this we must always be ready but to avoid this it is very difficult if you chose a target for attack. I heard some of users who got stolen of ETH from myeherwallet.com because there account got hack, make sure you check the site before entering on it there a lot of anonymous website out there and make sure to secure your private key put it on a flash drive to be safe .

Too many phishing websites are spread through slack.You should be more vigilant in entering the website address.Missing one letter, your money disappeared.Investment in crypto is good, but safer if you invest in SWARM. Try it!!

Since you used the official wallet, though strange, but there is a possibility of a malware on your system or browser that is hijacking your transaction. That is just a plain explanation for that and the dude behind this is sure making shitload of cash from this. It is important to always check the links you click as well as some webpages you visit and if possible, try to format your PC.

Fully agreed with this. If you want safe, never join in any of slack group. You are putting very big risk to earn small money.

For me as i always read in these kind of threads. I always make it a point to create a bootable usb flashdrive of ubuntu when transfering. I get all things needed; the json file, address to. Boot into ubuntu live boot. Sign in with my google account to sync bookmarks. Go to MEW. Transact. Wait for atleast 1 confirmation. Save as bookmark the current page. Logoff live boot. And goto my usual dekstops chrome and check progress. I feel safe with this. And have not experienced this.

Yes if that address has been compromised already it is best of you create another one.

I've read that there is some virus which is pasting bitcoin address when you try to copy/paste your address, maybe it is something similar, instead copy/paste bitcoin address it is pasting ether address.
Unless you accidentally sent transaction to that address or you were phished I don't see any other explanation.

Not all MEW users are here in bitcointalk and if some are here, maybe they didn't notice this thread.
Anyway, since you've mentioned that you go directly to myetherwallet.com, maybe you've become a victim of a copy/paste malware. I suggest you to install an anti-malware software (such as Malwarebytes) and scan your PC. If you want to be sure next time, you should paste the address first to a notepad or text editor, check if it's right, then copy from there before pasting in a website or wallet.

I also lost 42 Ether from this!!!  What's crazy is that it worked before for a small amount.  I was attempting to send the Ether to Bittrex. 

Before you ask:  Yes, I DID check the address of the website and I DID verify the receiving address before submitting the transaction.  I have sent an email to MyEtherWallet.  The address the funds are sent to show multiple entries, but only a couple withdrawals (very small amounts, which is unusual if this is indeed a hacker's account).  I am actually currently the highest "loser" with 42.05387962 Ether sent here.  I will no longer use this service, and I would recommend that other be very wary, as there was nothing I could have done differently (except refrain from using this specific service) to prevent this hijacking.   

Edit:  Also, this was done on a government computer and I just confirmed that there is no malware on my computer.

   It wasn't a hacked site .  The problem is a phishing site shows as an ad disguised as myetherwallet.com .   The duplicate site is identical except the url is

http www myetherunwallet.com .  instead of http www myetherwallet.com  When you glance at it you don't always notice the url isn't correct.  If you don't have a habit of checking your url's , you will never catch it.

  I was trying to transfer 1.7 ether to bittrex so I could buy Ubiq for $1.20.   Now I lost everything.     The fake site shows #1 on Yahoo search engine .  I imagine it shows on others as well.

From Where u clicked the MEW website link , i recommended u bookmark official MEW site , because now too much of scam website , sometimes they will send us notification from email then we clicked that fake website and we lost our eth.

 It seems I am in second place at 16.63 .   All my mining efforts for nearly three months.   Ironically , instead of keeping my coins on the Bittrex echange , I used the wallet for safety .   Whenever I transfer out of Bittrex I have to open an email to verify it.  Also , I can trade coins whenever I feel like it.   The scammer is still running the mock site ad on yahoo.  I hope someone shuts him down or calls the FBI .

     No, someone built a duplicate site . It is an exact copy so you never know its not the real one.

 The only difference is the url location is slightly different and the software is designed to transfer your ether to China where you will never see it again .  Its actually a Yahoo ad with the description of the correct site .  Very similar to the ads placed by Ebay or Amazon.

              Instead of amazon.com  or ebay.com , you get anazon.com or myebay.com.    Sometimes you catch the difference and sometimes not .

Yesterday i bought bitindia tokens. I added the new token to myetherwallet, checked the balance and after i saw my 1222 bitindia tokens in my wallet I turned off my computer and went to bed. Today I checked my balance and there are no tokens. There is a transaction 31 minutes after I turned off my computer where my bitindia are being transfered to another address. After that another transaction where 0.06 ether is also transfered at the same address. I can see the address at bitindia under token holders where it is listed with my 1222 bitindia tokens. Where did you generate your address? Either you went to a phishing site and generated a wallet there and they know your private key. Or your system is compromised in another way, did you download any other wallets recently?

I only downloaded exodus wallet but I never used it. I traded on kraken so the only reason for using myetherwallet was to buy enjin and bitindia. How can I stop him from taking my enjin coins when they go live?

   It seems you created your wallet on the fake site.   You need to stop using that wallet and switch the coins to point to another wallet.   If you cannot, you will need to check the wallet for the deposit and transfer them out before the scammer does.   I have been checking my old wallet everyday in case of a deposit coming in from my mining rigs before I redirected them. 

It seems it is still happening .  Someone lost 32 ether yesterday and another person lost 161 about 6 hours ago.  That's  $10,000 and $50,000 respectively.

Would you mind on posting the site link or any informations either a software or something so that people on here would really be aware. Im completely sure that you do being phished and seeing on the transaction on such address there are lots who are victimized on this scheme and now hes accumulating lots of Ether.

The new phishing campaign was spotted by security researchers from Cyren at the beginning June, when a phishing campaign using the domain blocklchain (as its web address began to spread using Google AdWords).

Most socalled hacks are simply phishing. Probably 95%. Actual hacks mostly only happen on major sites. Not on a single homepc... So if MEW was compromised we would know. The devs would know.... it would be massive. And probably... the hackers would not even get away with it since it would be so big it would probably come out someday who the perpetuators are. Then they wouldnt be safe the rest of their lives.

No matter how much it sucks for the victims of phishing its still their responsibility to be carefull. I must admit im scared if MEW actually still holds... but thats cause of Etherdelta. Which bookmarked my private keys... that is now fixed and my fear is slowly degrading.. but i still dont feel completely safe.

Overhere the same problem. 2 days ago I wanted to buy bitindia. I have copied the address and I checked it twice if the address was correct but the ethereum was send to 0x4d517D272CE8D879D8891518E70153b49d2CDb96.
And indeed it was send from myethereunwallet.

What can we do? Hopefully we can get our ethereum back however.....

well, this is a warning for all of us to be more careful in using the privat key of our wallet, already a lot of our friends are exposed to phishing, I think we do not need to display our wallet address on our bitcointalk profile, and not easily click the link of a shipment that is less clear, because it is so widespread theft like this, be careful guys

Hi.  Can I say that I am genuinely sorry for anyone who has been scammed.  However I am still at a loss as to understand anyone that owns thousands of pounds or dollars of eth that has not invested in a hardware wallet. 
It would completely remove this threat , trezor actually allows you to confirm the amount and the address before it’s sent furthermore your private key never leaves the device so nothing leaves without you pressing the button.     Regards kr

My friend also lost his Ethereum and some other coins from a phishing website and said it really looked the same as the original one. I think it's better if you just bookmark the legit website to prevent this from happening again. So sorry for your loss OP but I think you can't retrieve back the coins you lost anymore.

It is a shame that phishing is done by members of this forum but there is still justice in the world. SAIFUL you should be more careful when stealing now pay the price (Indonesian law for stealing is very strict as Jakarta police informed me).

Maybe you entered in the wrong website of MEW. There are many cloned website of myetherwallet that are scam. You should bookmark the real website of MEW which is https://myetherwallet.com/ and secured. You can check list of ethereum scams here in database ,check their website: https://etherscamdb.info/scams/

Guys, be careful when you copy/paste addresses for sending or receiving coins. New malware can detect addresses and it is able to change receive address with hidden scyrpt.Always check last part of address before push send button.

I have heard about it too. One  of my friend's 4.5etherum got stolen when he used that website.

I wonder how your funds has been sent to a different eth wallet address, i am not sure but I think you were using a site which looks like the same as myetherwallet's user interface but has a different web link and it has a script like whenever you are making a transaction or sending an amount it will be directly sent to a certain address which you are not familiar with I am not really sure if this thing really exists but i think it's possible .

You just send a report and they do the rest. You have nothing to loose but might be lucky and get back what was stolen from you. I filled one already so I recomend it. Only for european citizens though.

After reporting myetherwallet being compromised through phishing at all authorities (takes time but is worth it) I informed forum member "saiful" that I have taken legal action against him. On October 18 he replied that he would return the Bitindia tokens stolen. Today I received them in a new address.
Participating in phishing scams is a serious crime and one can get in a lot of trouble. By returning what you have stolen you have a chance to avoid serious problems with the law. To all those that participate in such scams: Do what "saiful" did and return what you have stolen to the rightful owners. The damage that may be done by a stupid act like stealing tokens might be 100 times worse than what the tokens are worth. The only ones making money out of scams are the ones organising them while the little guys that do the dirty work get caught. IT'S NOT WORTH IT.
To victims:
Report, report, report and then report again sending all the information to ALL authorities. Everywhere. Do a search in Google for reporting scams and send a report EVERYWHERE. Believe me I found a lot of people that helped me track and find those responsible for compromising my wallet. IT'S WORTH IT.

What's there to say? It's an obvious scam, There is no excess eth to be distributed and the website url ends with .website.

This is great news then, I just hope those hackers will return back the coins they stole from everyone. But I don't think some would return back the amount they stole. I was also a victim but I only had a small amount of Ethereum stolen from me so I just let it go and learned my lesson well.

If you mean that you can retrieve back what is loss from you then its so impossible mate since there's no one can get it back since first of all it was been hack and the MEW devs will not do any counter action with since you are responsible to your wallet and its your loss if you will mishandle it. And maybe its best for you to move on and be more careful next time upon putting your private keys anywhere.

I once read about a malware that would overwrite any text saved in the clipholder with the attackers addy, preying on the fact that no human bothers typing out a public address.

It sounds like you have been the victim of a similar malware perhaps? obviously designed for Ethereum, rather than Bitcoin.

You can try testing it, by just copying an address and see if you can paste that same address again, or if it gets substituted.

In any case, i am sorry for your losses however small or big.

This would indeed the case on here on which he might really have a malware which do post attackers address instead of OP's address.We have seen this kind of hack back in the past but that was on BTC and now they are making already on ETH too which most people doesn't really bother to check again on the address that they do really put on those send button. If you are careless enough you would surely fall into this one this is why we should always keep on reviewing on our address or on the address we would like to send those funds if it does show others wallet then for sure that your pc is already compromised.

My friends experiencing the same thing. Not only there ETH but also all the tokens they got. Securing our ETH wallet should be our first priority. First thing is Always secure ETH by not giving the Private Key. Second never go to a site that is too suspicious. Phishig site are all over the digital world. Always Double Check.

Right. That is the same conclusion I have. Even in myetherwallet site, there's always a constant reminder to always check everything before you make any transaction and never click any mew links that came from emails, sites or forums. Just be honest and I know you did one of those.

First of all beware of the phishing sites. What is a phishing site ? " It is a scam site where they try to mimic myetherwallet. For example , myetnerwailet.com , myerterwallet.com , etc " so beware of the phishing sites . You must be very careful on viewing or sending your eth, once you log on this sites your doomed. You must also not click any spams in the slack , there are so many spammers in the slack that redirected to phishing sites if you click them. Just be careful next time.

Well it's possible that you clicked any link to direct you to MEW that came from airdrop forums. All my coins are still there and I just follow all their safety measure. I think what's wrong with these people is that they always get excited in some airdrops or etc and doesn't check everything.

I actually noticed that same wallet address but I always make sure I delete the wrong one and make sure the right one is copy pasted correctly. This has happened to me a couple of times already and good thing I never ever have tried to be stolen or something.

Anyone else had luck getting coins returned? I was the guy who had 161 coins stolen on October 13th. I just found out because I was on vacation with my family.   I will be making a report and will hopefully get lucky.

You sir is the good example of a person that everyone should not follow. It is basically a phishing case where you got fooled by a fake site or clicked carelessly in any link direct to any wallet site where you keep all your tokens.

Most of the hacker they used other site that has similar to mew, like Slack they most often sent you a flood site to your email and has an instruction to click this, if you see that kind of instruction in your email avoid then delete it at once. That's why for me slack for me is not safe to use it in the ico project telegram is much more better and good to use it for now.

Based on my experienced, you possibly visiting to unofficial site of MEW. There are many scammers out there. They almost copy the environment and the design of the page so it will look like the same. It's better to bookmark all the original site so that it will be so easy for you to visit anytime. Make sure also that your private key is fully secured to every transactions that you perform everyday.

This is obviously "Phishing". Some are people are really just that lazy that they click MEW links from forum instead of putting a bookmark of that site and use it. Airdrops thread are full of it so don't be careless.

There lots of pishing site trying to mimic MyEtherwallet, so better double or triple check the url of the site before logging in your private keys. There are already million I think who had been already victimized by these pishers.
Better to avoid these pishing site for safe and secure transacting.

Like the literal paper money, they imitate the design so that it will appear to us as true. So once we inputted the needed key, they easily get the information that will enable us to be hacked.

I think  the use of private keys needs to be used with metamask or a Hardware Wallet to prevent being phished.

Just dont forget to BOOKMARK everything and make sure you're entering the correct spelling. I believe you were in the wrong website, and being victimized by phishing. Many people are being victim, example is faking myetherwallet that can capture your private key upon signing.
Always check the website, and one easy to thing to do is to check if the website has security. you can check the url make sure it has https:// before logging your private key.

To all the users of MEW, you should use metamask or hardware wallet if you are going to access your funds and transfer it. It's the safest way to do rather than opening it with json file or your private key which is very prone to get hacked.

actually json file is also verry secure and much better to use when compare to private keys and metamask because json file does only save on your hard drive or internal memory of your device and it shoudnt get hacked or touched by someone , not even a virus. but secondly, metamask is also the other alternative to it in order to keep your mew account safe from phisers. i wont recomended hardware wallet at all because those things are pretty expensive for such a small piece of hardware.

True, the problem is people don't realize how securely they should perform the actions like these until they're hacked. MEW is an open-source software and people should realize it'd be better for them if they simply download it from Github and then use it securely on their own system locally.

Google doesn't care if they are advertising a fake or legit website, they don't even know that they are advertising a fake or a real one. I've seen many phishing sites that are being advertised on google and the negligence isn't with google or they should be accountable for it somehow. But as a user of MEW, why would you use search engines when visiting a web wallet? Bookmark it or type the whole website in correct spelling in the address bar so you are far from any of those.

no, devs dont have the control of it. fake sites or sites that is verry simillar to the original ones are oftenly called phising. phising tends to hacked and steal your account if you manage to enter your private keys and password within thier site.  devs of mew dont have control to the whole web and everyone or anyone can posibly allowed to copy everything from them but you should not be using the fake ones as they are verry dangerous.

The legit devs of MEW can't control the flowing of these fake websites. Everyone is free to create a new website and there's no certain rules about that disabling those new ones, AFAIK. What they can only do is to warn people about those fake ones that are circulating and starting to imitate them. And the responsibility shall be passed to us who are using them and this can be the reason why we have to be careful when we are visiting them. Just think before you click so that you won't to those phishing copy cats.
