Yes, you can earn Theta Tokens as a streamer in two ways: from advertisers, or from your viewers if they choose to tip you with Theta Tokens for your content.

The purpose of using a blockchain to power the network is to incentivize users to share streaming video and build up the strength of the decentralized streaming network. Instead of setting up thousands of individual nodes or paying users to do so, we're creating an ecosystem that encourages users to share and rewards them with Theta Tokens.

The main purpose of using blockchain is to encourage viewers to share their redundant bandwidth resource to relay the video stream. In return they'll get Theta tokens as rewards.

The viewers that share their bandwidth resource are called caching nodes. They relay video streams while mining new blocks just as Bitcoin miners. Yet in Theta, the reward for a block is NOT a constant. The more video stream the caching node relayed, the higher block reward it would get. Here is how it works -- when a caching node mines a new Theta block it calculates a reputation score for itself. The reputation score is a measure of the amount of video stream data it relayed in a recent time window. A high reputation score increases the block reward, and in turn encourages the caching node to relay more video. Furthermore, when a new block is mined, all caching nodes must verify the reputation score of the caching node that mined the block, and thus form a global consensus on the block reward.

The calculation of the reputation score is based on the "service certificates" the caching node collected from its downstream viewers while relaying the video streams. The "service certificates" requires hashing power to generate and therefore hard to fake. Yet the "service certificates" are easy for other miners to verify, which makes the global consensus on the block reward possible. Good question! In our proposal, in the first phase we plan to combine peer-to-peer and CDN to accelerate video delivery. Viewer can pull stream from either peers or CDN edge servers depending on which one has better quality. Hence more peering nodes will always lead to higher quality.

Yes blockchain plays the central role in our architecture -- the peering caching nodes acts similar to miners in Bitcoin/Ethereum. However, the block reward is not a constant. It depends on how much video relay work the caching node conducted. If a caching node relayed more video streams, when it mines a new block, it will get higher reward. This encourages the caching nodes to perform useful works (relaying video) besides mining new blocks.

Good question! First, Theta network encourages viewers to sharing their computers as caching relay nodes (somewhat similar to BitTorrent). In return they get Theta tokens as rewards. Viewers then can gift the theta tokens to the content creators. Advertising can also use Theta tokens to reward content creators. All these token transactions are direct transactions, video platforms in the middle don't take cuts. See the intro video below:

I never heard of sliver.tv but I'm not eSports fan, actually I didn't play games for many months if not years. But Theta has competition in Youtube. There are more and more complains against Youtube, mostly from authors who can't monetize many of their videos for no reason, while youtube (google) get's money from ads even on non-monetized videos.
If Theta manages to provide video platform which will also reward video makers, then this project will be very successful. This way your tokens will also have pratical use. Authors would get payed in Theta tokens and advertisers would pay for ads in tokens as well.

Theta isn't looking to take on YouTube, it's creating the infrastructure for streaming video that could potentially even be used with YouTube. There was not a public sale so there wasn't an ICO price per se. The private sale was completed with a stated price of $0.12, with some strategic partners having discounts.

THETA was offered in private sale between $0.10 and $0.12 with various discounts from those stated prices. The net effective token price was $0.067, as implied by the hard cap ($20M) and number of tokens sold (300m).

Going down now, but so is everything else.  I can't wait for it to come to an exchange like Binance or Kucoin so that I can buy more.  Huobi was a pain in the butt.

Huobi pro and OKex are rather large exchanges, but I agree that if it hit Binance, it would moon.  However, I am x10 already.  I expect it will have another x10 again by Q4 2018.  It's building up steam fast.

According to Icodrop 1 THETA = 0.12 USD, so we are only looking at 2x price. Is this info wrong? I thought getting it at double ICO price is a pretty good deal. But people make 10x, which put me off a little. Still waiting for a good reward from this one. Got only 1000 tokens will see how it works.

Honestly, I would hop on the train now.  I got lucky and placed an order on EtherDelta and somebody sold it to me at a lower price.  I have tried this with a multitude of other coins and have never gotten it before.  I'm currently trying with PCL tokens.  I still expect a x10 return from here.  I bought more at 0.16 and don't regreat it at all.  Way in the green right now.

Right now, as an ERC20 token you can store THETA in any ERC20-compliant wallet like MyEtherWallet. When the native Theta blockchain launches, projected for Q4 2018, a Theta wallet will be released as well.

Yes, there will be a migration where all the ERC20 Theta Tokens will be swapped for Theta Tokens on the native blockchain. Any THETA you purchase now, for example on Huobi, will be swapped for the native token once that launches.

So this coin's demand will only come from investors and advertisers basically.

Actually, the project will use Proof of Stake consensus due to concerns about the scalability of PoW in the context of streaming video. Besides the general requirement for caching nodes to hold Theta to earn staking rewards, the streaming sites we partner with and that build dapps on top of the Theta protocol will be incentivized to run their own caching nodes to strengthen the network, which will require holding Theta Tokens.

Huobi.pro is a very good exchange. My only gripe with them is that they are overly cautious. It took me four attempts to withdraw my tokens into my wallet.

The verification process is very stringent, which is good from a security perspective, but can be very frustrating as well.

Anyways, Theta Token is gaining attention from a certain group, and they are predicting a big future. I hope this comes to fruition.

I've been on the testnet for a while but have just stopped because its heating my laptop and my fan is going crazy!

I have a question about token incentives. Often people say that pure utility tokens without staking or dividends will end up having very high velocity, limiting the total market cap. It seems like the Theta team believes that a pure utility token can hold significant value and be a good investment. Have they argued for this view? I understand the idea that network participants sell their tokens to influencers. Are there other mechanisms to stabilize the value?

Reading up on WebRTC, etc. with BitTorrent purchased by Tron I think there is a huge demand for this space. Theta is finding a way to monetize P2P and building a network protocol that companies can use without giving up their market share in the space they compete.

Just imagine the opportunities and possibilities of future where it can reach. They launched mainnet and streaming platform which started to attract people in short time. Theta is definitely one of my favorites at the moment, I have been keeping a eye on it for more then a year now.

what is the biggest difference between Theta and live peer? or are they the same?

I think the biggest difference is that theta has it's own Theta token seperate from the Ethereum network, while Livepeer is a token build on the Ethereum network.
Theta also has Tfuel which you can earn by lending your bandwith to video streams. While Theta it self is used to Stake to become validator notes and earn Tfuel as well.

While looking for a potential project to support I stumble Theta and am impressed that the team running these projects are well known in the industry, you cannot disregard a co-founder of Youtube and chief technology and their mother company is also huge in broadcast industry, I have downloaded and now running their Pre Guardian just today and let's see how it goes have added this to my portfolio.

I was active in their telegram channel asking questions and I received a lot of personal messages from impostors, asking if they want help in unlocking my wallet to the point of asking my private key in a form, I received 5 messages from impostors, if newbies will not take or be attentive you will get scammed here, always read all the information in their channel, admins will not pm you first.

Yes that has been a problem I think for most of the telegram groups crypto related, as soon as you post 1 question in there people who are imposing as a admin will try to get your coins.
So watch out for that indeed, Admins will not ask you for your private key in DM's Or in any kind of internet Form.
Unfortunately I have seen a few people already fall for it.

I think about Theta in a broader digital consumer space. While intelligent investor Warren Buffet is criticizing cryptocurrencies because their value (in his opinion) is zero because tokens have no real products delivered to consumers, Theta is the absolute opposite. I just wanted to give a shout out to the Theta Support Team.  I accidentally sent Theta and not TFuel to the poker NFT drop.  I reported the issue and my email was answered and the Theta tokens were returned to me in a couple hours.  Thank you.  (With two other popular coins I have had issues with I still have no answers to my emails and its been many, many weeks.).
