Title: shopping with BTC
Post by: rddsd7 on December 02, 2017, 05:28:42 PM
If we buy stuff with BTCand the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTCprice.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

Though is said to hit the mainstream soon but buying of stuff with bitcoin while the company sells it for cash is definitely not good for bitcoin price because it will literally cause some dump in price of bitcoin.

Best choice right now. You can buy almost anything with bitcoin nowa days so It's really cool. Also , platforms like steam accept bitcoin for more than an year , I mean it's a biliionare company who made the smartest choice back in 2015.

He just asked about if the companies are damaging bitcoin by acquiring and instantly selling those bitcoins after selling stuff, not if it is a good decision to shop with bitcoin.

Best choice right now. You can buy almost anything with bitcoin nowa days so It's really cool.

This kind of newbies are a garbage, they really need to pay more attention to the thread if they want to farm their accounts by that way.

And no, it is not doing anything to bitcoin, because any other person would be able to buy the bitcoins that the shop is dumping at the moment, so no, it is a round cycle.

Sellers should be very happy to accept bitcoins for good, as the value of bitcoins is keeping up and up. Hence, I would expect a bigger return for the sold item paid in bitcoin. It is also good for the buyer as bitcoin has higher purchasing power.

It's bad i mean the price of btc is unstable . you could buy something that is worth 10$ today ,tomorrow the price raises and it will be as if you bought it with 13$ . Not to mention the high fees that are on it . So no i don't think it's such a great idea to shop directly with btc.

It's a win win situation and will never be bad if the merchants sell them straight away and it's because its in demand that is why the sellers can easily get a competitive market to sell their bitcoins to. I don't even think these guys are going to sell them straight away because they will want to hold and also earn more as has  been the trend with bitcoin lately.

No one will shop en masse with Bitcoin if they can help it. Why would you if you had depreciating money to hand instead?

The old 'merchants will dump' meme was dicsussed ad nauseam when merchant adoption happened in 2014. In the end it turned out that most of Bitpay's coins were disappearing straight into the pockets of OTC buyers so the effect on the market is at most neutral and more likely reducing supply.

A payment processor is a very dependable source for an OTC buyer.

Currently, my country is banned from using Bitcoin to buy anything. However, you can still deal with other people to transfer it to cash and use it. That is legal

Why will shopping with bitcoin be bad? If bitcoin will be accepted as a payment method more people will buy bitcoin to use it to buy things so the price will go up. The shops will sell bitcoin but they are not going to sell it for the normal bitocin price in order to not be in minus with the profit.

Shopping with bitocin will surely help the price to go up but I dont think that is going to happen very soon because bitcoin fees are very high and it takes a pretty much time for the transactions to be confirmed, so it is hard for shops to add bitcoin as a payment method because they dont have any more advantages.

Adoption and real world use are 2 things that bring value to the coin, so shopping with Bitcoin will only do good for the future of cryptos. The 10k Bitcoin for 2 pizzas guy is often mentioned as someone who made a very bad decision, but would we be here if that transaction never took place? Good food for thought...

Definitely it's bad and impractical to use Bitcoin for shopping these days. The fee is killing us. $10-$13 still huge for the fee. Also still Bitcoin is not widely accepted on many stores worldwide. Like in my country (Philippines), it's very rare to see any store that directly accepts Bitcoin as a mode of payment for their goods you buy to them. The only thing you can do is convert Bitcoin to fiat. I think it's more convenient since cash is widely accepted and most of all, no fees to pay. Anyway, i will not use my Bitcoin unless it's very important. Bitcoin price is skyrocketing right now.

I have also thought about this because I buy most of my items through a payment processor the same as bitpay but just another company but it works exactly the same. The seller adds bitpay and chooses he they want to be paid. It is mostly bank transfers so I pay bitpay btc and they pay the seller with a bank transfer and take a small cut. In this way the seller attracts the attention of a customer like myself and seals the deal. This gives the seller more exposure because I would not buy as much from this shops if they didn't accept Bitcoin. I think k if they sell it for fiat it most likely won't effect the price because it's just giving my Bitcoin back so if I buy 1btc and spend it and they sell it back again we sit again at 0btc so unchanged. But things don't always work out perfectly so it might make the price go up through stimulation of the transfers.

Bitcoin shopping is becoming increasingly more difficult as time goes on due to the problem with fees we are currently experiencing. Unfortunately, fees are so high right now and not only that, they are a lrge percentage of small purchases. And then the onfirmations take so long there is a double-spend problem on top of that that companies need to be woried about.

The number of people worldwide who pay with BTC is increasing daily.
This means that the real value of the BTC is also increasing.

As more and more people invest in the BTC, we are also seeing a shortage effect and the price is rising.
In some high-inflation countries such as Zimbabwe, more and more citizens are buying their goods with BTC.

Bitcoin is so volatile that anytime of the day, month or year, its price would be skyrocketing or crashing. But for this year its price had a big growth and because of it many people became interested with bitcoin. There will be more people investing in bitcoin and using it for shopping will a great loss for better opportunity.

Just cashing out or exchanging my bitcoin to local currency is already a hassle because of the high transaction fees so I don't foresee the use of bitcoin for shopping as applicable for now. Currently, there are not much retail stores in my country which accept bitcoin and asides from that, it's not yet that well known or mainstream. As of now, people prefer to treat bitcoin as an investment rather than as a mode of payment because of the lack of availability.

I think that's something bad, because certainly when more and more people are selling bitcoins for the necessities of life like shopping, then it will make a bitcoin dump. remember that the spreading and volume affect the bitcoin price. but I would be happy if bitcoin is used as a transaction tool and it would be advantageous for bitcoin users.

The possibilities of involvement of bitcoin in a normal day to day buying of goods can really happen and I think those big companies are now looking on it but I think it woulld affect the pricing of bitcoin and they are right it's either the buyer or the company will incurred loss because of the fact that the value of bitcoin fluctuates from time to time.

It would be nice if we can use our bitcoin in shopping so far the wallet I am currently using can do shopping using bitcoin and the service provider is the one who do the conversion of my bitcoin into our national currency. So far this is good though there really a case when the payment you made today can be higher or lower depending on the value of bitcoin.

Well before answering the question, some of the shops in countries outside make bitcoin as a legal currency when they buy something. Some of these shops are on online. So will this implementation will be good or not? To be honest, from a perspective of being a citizen, there will be advantages and also disadvantages. Let's go with the advantages first, we can buy we want without getting our money on our wallet and as easy as sending bitcoin to the shop cashier will do the job. Easy as pie right? But maybe some of the disadvantages of this is getting so many crimes, such as not paying the right price, maybe buy something that is illegal and something like that. It is scary to happen.

Instantaneous shopping with BTC is not possible at the moment. You'll probably wait for hours just to get a cup of coffee.
There has to be an intermediary system to speed up transaction speed at the background than waiting for blockchain to verify transactions.

Crypto card will be a good solution for real time shopping.

bitcoin is still improving and upgrading in order for it soon to be used in an offline environment with much faster responce time. that is why there were still segwit and hardforks that occurs from time to time. some big companies offline or online are still dont use bitcoins to their payment options because they know and understand the consequencies they might face. also price fluctuations due to volatility is another problem here next to processing time although they can still adjust the transaction fee and put a high amount on it in order for the transaction to process faster or they can use some third party bitcoin transaction accelerator online to speed it up even more though some of these elite and premium service will cost much.

Read an article about this although I forgot the exact names and places I got the main point that people or businesses willing to accept Bitcoin as a mode of payment they need to automatically convert it to Fiat currency in order to avoid earning unnecessary gains when its price appreciates. It is actually good if a country's government required these businesses by law to do so as they are actually will earn more if they buy and sell Bitcoin after earning it from you. I am on the government's side of it as it is a way to avoid abuse of its volatility.

It's always a good thing to shop conveniently. Bitcoin provides one option for people to do that moving away from the usual means like credit/debit cards or online banking transactions. Although bitcoin value has been on an all time high, there are still a few shops and establishments that accept it as a means of payment. I think as it becomes bigger, there will be more and more shops that would accept it in the near future.

My concern is not that the bitcoin price will rise or fall, but when more people shop with bitcoin, it will expose the inefficiency of bitcoin transactions and either cause a lot of transactions to fail or the transaction fee will be very high (as an example, last week I waited 4 days for a transaction to confirm). Either way it will be bad for bitcoin (if not disastrous). So I call the bitcoin devs to  improve btc and do it soon; before it's too late and bitcoin gets replaced by some altcoin

Going to malls, or other establishments using bitcoin as direct payment in exchange of cash might result to a negative effect on bitcoin price, but this may lead to the  wide introduction of digital currency to the open public, mainly in the market world. If this happens, no one really knows whether it  will create a negative impact on digital currency in general, because proper regulation might takes place, if this happens.

Well, i think it wont affect bitcoin in anything, amount or price wise.
Because it is just like a normal buy and sell things, and that is what happen in an exchange everyday. It is just a cycle.
But for the transaction matter, there will be a lot of transaction if this happen, and the question is, can all this transaction be done in a fast and short time? This would hurt bitcoin names if the transaction is slow, as people want for faster and safe transaction with digital currency. So because of that, i would love to see bitcoin has a fast transaction (maybe instant would be better) with an acceptable fees.

Adoptation around the world is always good for any type of product. A merchants are forced to cash out their btc for usd since usd is a world leader of currencies. Goverment and taxes are the reason for cashing out theit btc. Once bitcoin will be accepted everywhere and taxes will be billed in bitcoins a merchants will keep it and hodl.

Well I think , bitcoin will be used in near future , but know bitcoin is an investments , transaction and etc. Not by payments or what , and the bitcoin price will be affected because of the currency or the cash. In the other hand it's good or profitable , But I think , or I predict I guess , it will be the money of all , the bitcoin I think and we will use it to buy things , to fill our daily needs , and a lot easier.

Maybe better to just buy stuff with your cash and not with bitcoin, I think it is not worth it, the seller would have benefited with it because as time flies, she/he also getting profit with the bitcoin you paid him/her. Instead that you are the one that will take of that profit, he/she will take it from you.

I can't see how shoping with bitcoin could be bad for bitcoin price. Bitcoin is used as a payment method directly or through debit card and that is one of the advantages that attracts users, I would say. Maybe is different story if you exchange bitcoins firts to fiat money and then buy some goods but general I think shoping with bitcoin could only make benefit.

If you buy something with BTCs it's already good for BTC price as you are using the currency and moving it on the market, if the seller exchanges it into fiat it's another story... And it's not a problem at all, seems a sustainable system. Bitcoin is always in circulation, people are always using it to buy things, sellers are always exchanging into fiat and other people are always buying BTCs from these sellers to buy more stuff again.

At this moment , stores that are willing to sell goods/services in exchange with bitcoin are very minimal, might as well save your bitcoin and wait for more stores that would openly accepts bitcoin as payment and would probably result to wide variety of choices . Plus transacting with bitcoin is really slow now and transaction fees are very high, based on my experience.

It depends upon the bitcoin holder whether they use their bitcoin or not on shopping online. If they want to use it even some online shopping has highest amount. if i were you i only use my bitcoin in important matters like the one that you need to your daily living.

every bitcoin users have their own thoughts, using bitcoin as a medium of buying and selling transactions or not, it is the opinion of anyone who would use it.

First you buy BTC, and then only you buy a thing for BTC. The seller of things can also pay off the manufacturer with the help of BTS or sell for cash. As a result, such a long chain of transactions increases the liquidity of bitcoin, and hence its value will grow.
Payment services such as TenX, OmiseGo and others help to convert various crypto-currencies and national currencies into each other, which simplifies and accelerates the use of payment systems.

Best choice right now. You can buy almost anything with bitcoin nowa days so It's really cool. Also , platforms like steam accept bitcoin for more than an year , I mean it's a biliionare company who made the smartest choice back in 2015.
There is no doubt in this that it appears really cool when you do some online shopping with bitcoin. Bitcoin is the future of the world currencies and this is the only reason large companies are showing great interest in bitcoin these days and accepting them as a mode of payment.

Bitcoin is seriously going to astonish all of us by the amazing tendencies it has of increasing in value over time. In short, we should use bitcoin in daily life.

If we buy stuff with BTCand the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTCprice.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?

Of course it will be good, if there will be more companies who will accept it as a payment then bitcoin will have more demand since it will be widely used. and once the demand goes high expect for a higher bitcoin price.

Well, in our case i will say that It's good to shop with Bitcoin. Because If many stores will accept Bitcoin as mode lf payment, they are also one who will gain profits while holding their bitcoin. In the contrary, we will be benefited because we will be secured in holding our money, because nowadays, many snatchers are always aware for every people around them. That's why we need to secure. And one thing that i know, Bitcoin can have a transaction anonymously and fast. So, if you will pay to the shop, in just some seconds, your purchased thing has been paid.

If we could go shopping using bitcoin to pay for the goods,  it means that the general  acceptability of bitcoin is going up which is good for bitcoin.  If more people accept bitcoin as a currency, the price of bitcoin will go higher as there will more transactions than in previous years and there will be higher circulation of bitcoin in the economy.

I think bitcoin pricing needs to be stable for that to happen. so whether stability happens because of the buying/selling mass adoption or financial markets adoption first, doesn't matter. At that point, you will hit the bigger problem. The transaction capacity of bitcoin itself.

In a short term yes it will hurt bitcoin price as it will surely be considered it as dumping that will resulted to its decrease. But in the long term as mainstream as it be and many will buy bitcoin for this purpose it eventually be an investors numbers increases so demand add up and bitcoin price increases. This is the case for us now having in an adaptation phase and it will soon be better.

shopping using bitcoin is very risky. because bitcoin can change very quickly. maybe if the high bitcoin price of the company will experience profits but if the bitcoin price drops then the company will only incur losses. should use fiat money better for buying and selling. because the price is stable. bitcoin just as an investment not to buy goods or services.

It's not the seller who sell the bitcoin right away. They use some third-party gateway who accepts the bitcoin and pays the vendor in fiat or traditional currency. So i guess the third-party holds the coin for themselves, thus not affecting the price of bitcoin.

I think online shopping with bitcoin is one of its best use cases, since it is the only form of online payment that is secure without a third party. With that said, in its current state, it is not very usable due to unstable price high fees. I'm hoping lightning will fix this soon.

Any time I make a payment online I have 4 options:

 - Pay with credit/debit card. This requires me to input the card number and anyone with the card number can spend it. How can I trust the website I enter it in to? I hate doing this and use this method as little as possible.

- Pay with internet banking. This only works in my own country as my bank does not like to send money to banks outside my country. (I know they can somehow, I just don't know how they do and can't be bothered finding out. Also currency conversion, fees etc.) Inter-bank transfers also take 1h-1d (longer on weekends because its all automated and everything but they like to keep people thinking its not or something stupid thing like that.), although instant if buyer-seller use the same bank. Few online stores accept this, the only one I know that does is my country's airline and localbitcoins.

 - Pay with voucher. This is quite secure as I can buy Google play vouchers from the local supermarket, but non-Google store will not accept them and I'm trusting Google to up hold them. Google Play is just an example, it could be Steam or whatever.

 - Pay with bitcoin. This is secure as I sign the transaction but don't reveal my private key. (Treat the debit card number as a private key you are giving to some random website. Both numbers do the same thing, allowing the spending of your funds.) I'm not trusting any 3rd party, not the bank, not paypal, not the voucher maker. It's like cash but without even needing trust in the Gov.

This is why I personally use bitcoin to buy online if it is given as an option, and seek out sellers that provide such an option. I have bought quite a few items online this way and don't much care that I spent 0.01BTC on an alarm clock because at the time, both the alarm clock and the bitcoin were worth 10$, what happens after the fact doesn't really matter. I got exactly what it was worth at the time.

As for merchants converting to $ after my payment, that also doesn't really matter. They have supply chains valued in $ and it makes sense for them to use that currency in case of bitcoin price drops. The bitcoin is still being sold on to someone who is using it and the fact that people can buy things in bitcoin and are doing so helps the bitcoin economy.

I don't so much use bitcoin in person as it doesn't have the transaction throughput and is difficult to obtain. I also don't know of any shops in my city that accept it, I wish this would change but still would probably not be able to use it locally due to being paid to a bank account and not wanting to pay fees to transfer to bitcoin. In person there is more trust as I can see the visa machine and shop attendant, they have a physical presence and I can call my bank to investigate if they take the wrong amount or just use cash. Anyway that's just my 2 Satoshi's

I think that idea of using bitcoin in malls when you are going to shopping is a brilliant idea because we all know that people nowadays are into malls and most of the time they spend in malls just to kill time. And we also know that most of the people today are using bitcoin or have some savings in bitcoin so I guess if this idea will going to happen many will be happy.

maybe buying stuff and paying it with bitcoin directly will cause some problem, if you are planning to use you bitcoin in buying online or on a physical store or merchants, better convert it to a much acceptable and already circulating currency, you can always convert, every time you are planning to go shopping, but for now, bitcoin stays on your online wallet and convert it first before purchasing stuff.

I agree. Moreover, the only thing that can build bitcoin value long term is mass adoption. Only then the finite quantity of bitcoin matched with growing demand will make its price go up long term. For bitcoin, to be massively adopted, it needs to serve those people as currency: one must be able to buy petrol and bread and butter with it.

Summing up, for bitcoin to be a store of value long term, it needs to be used as a currency. If it fails as a currency, the day will come it stops being the store of value too.

Though is said to hit the mainstream soon but buying of stuff with bitcoin while the company sells it for cash is definitely not good for bitcoin price because it will literally cause some dump in price of bitcoin.
it really is because a company of goods will not do the bitcoin hold they have from the sale of their goods, the reason is because they definitely need funds for their circulation of merchandise.

Hi,

For the moment it is impossible to go shopping with bitcoin, simply because the price cha,ges way too much from one day to another.

I guess that by the time it becomes possible, then in your scenario, a business that would receive bitcoin would not turn it to fiat currency but rather keep it for further exchanges.

In the world today, the dollar is the reference currency. But when you want to buy something in your country, you don't feel the need to use dollars and afterwards change it for your country currency, right? I hope we can reach the same result with bitcoin if it get spread enough!

Shopping with this wonderful coin isn't improved to the maximum yet so right now this option is in usage by the small percentage of the holders. High transactions are the biggest problem right now in the shopping term.

People are also afraid that the purpose of the Bitcoin will be forgotten if the highly decentralized fluctuation coin is used for the shopping purposes.

Ideally we would like to buy things with bitcoin, and that the seller would hold bitcoin instead of selling it. Of course this can only happen if mass adoptions occurs. Let's imagine a bakery, and that we buy bread with bitcoin. It would only make sense for the seller to hold his bitcoins, if he could also buy the raw material to make the bread with bitcoin. So only when the entire industry is allowing payments with BTC, then we could see sellers keeping their coins.

This will take time to happen, but even if it doesn't, and bitcoin is just a payment method like PayPal, where people recharge their wallets to make payments, I don't think it would be bad for the price, but quite the opposite. It would not be the ideal situation I've described, but a lot of people would still be buying bitcoin to reload their wallets and continue to make payments with it. So we would have a lot of people buying and selling bitcoin at the same time and this would result in an equilibrium, so the price wouldn't really move. It could be moving up, because more people were using this "new" payment method, but I doubt it would go down.

The way I understand about shopping with Bitcoin is, you could use one or more of the following possible ways that I have used in my short experience with BTC. However, each method has its own advantages and disadvantages which I will try to make clear, but you should also do your own research to choose the method which suits you the best. 1. Pay on Amazon and Other Sites: You can get some really great discounts from some of the world’s top internet retailers using this method. However, it can take a lot longer to complete a purchase than it normally would. 2. Bitcoin Debit Cards: You could also fund a debit card from your BTC wallet balance instead of your bank account. This is the easiest and most flexible method for spending your coins in physical stores around the world. However, there are fees to pay, and some services require you to convert your coins to the necessary fiat paid in advance. 3. Gift Cards: You could finally purchase electronic or physical gift cards using BTC, then spend them or give them as gifts. However, according to my experience, the best is to pay on internet sites.

It will be too complicated. The company will have a potential of holding all the BTC they have earned for atleast a year and wait for its profit to grow exponentially. This is the reason why fiat money is more reliable in real life and almost everything is useless without fiat money.

I have the same sentiments. It's pretty much like you are cashing out your BTC when you pay using the services of 3rd party bitcoin payments like bitpay to convert your BTC. But I fail to see how this will affect the price of Bitcoin. Bitcoin price is based on the exchanges around the world. People wouldn't know about your transaction.

that’s right there are no easy way to use bitcoin for payments because bitcoin is still being stuck by slow transactions so how can the store can wait for a very long time for bitcoin transferred to their account. Moreover the price of bitcoin always up and down unexspectively so bitcoin will not be able to be used in business.

But I guess if you really have no choice and no other money to use, then sad to say, the only way to go is using bitcoins. If you don't think of its convertion to your local currency then I think it is actually okay but the problem with most people is when they buy stuffs whether it is online or on an actual store; if for example they accept bitcoin, most of them would then convert how much it is worth if it is converted to let's say USD. Of course you will be thinking twice of how much fiat money you will be spending. But I think it is actually a good idea to shop using BTC because by then the coin will be circulated in the society and not just hoarded by some.

Currently, your country prohibits using Bitcoin to buy anything. If bitcoin will be accepted as a method of payment more people will buy bitcoin to use it to buy goods so the price will go up.However, you can still deal with others to transfer them to cash and use it. It's legal.

If we buy stuff with BTCand the company just sells it for cash right away, it's probably not good for the BTCprice.

What do you think?  Will shopping with BTC be good or bad for BTC?
For now it depends on the circumstances that bitcoin is facing its so volatile you can either profit or loss if bitcoin is being used to purchase merchandise, so maybe if the shop can manage some contracts with somebody that can buy bitcoin anytime and convert it to fiat real time is a much better way to avoid price volatility but this is not convenient because cash is pretty much cheap if it turns out to be like this people can save more if they are not gonna spent some extra in fees.
