Title: Do you use any indicators to predict Bitcoin price movement
Post by: Walrus1 on December 06, 2017, 06:22:55 PM
Hey, let me open by saying Bitcoin is not stock as I know people will respond in such. I merely use stock as an explanation point. I am in the market and real estate as well as gold. With each of these I can follow some information, though not fool proof, that can give me an idea on what a particular investment might do. I see here on this forum people actually say "think positive Bitcoin will go up". Certainly the confidence people have in btc effects it's price but staying positive is not a magic bullet. Thus far I see people's confidence, volume and news reports are the main driving points behind btc movements do you follow anymore.

It will be a great help not just for me but to other people as well to avoid conflicts resulting to wrong decision.

No, there aren't any indicators that will tell you the exactly price that will be in a few hours/minutes/days/weeks, it is impossible, not even the experts can predict it.

If you are looking for a good indicator, then use bollinger bands, maybe it will help you a bit, but dont make false expectations because you know that no one is able to predict the price, just speculate over it.

But EMA, SMA, and the others are not going to help you

No I did not use anything specifically but I have a habit to check the prices every hour from different exchangers. Well, I don’t go and start logging in everywhere but I just go and check it on the exchanger really. Now I’m just looking st the markets section and then we can predict the things from volume of the bitcoin that is being traded inward and outward really. This gives rough estimates of the price incrimination in future and we can predict from it.

You can try using websites like Tradingpro and Coinigy but in the end your guess is probably as good as mine despite the fact it may have some indicators behind it. I find with bitcoin the price action generally doesn't link up to what was "supposed" to happen and as a result I stay clear from it and try not to get burned by making wrong moves.

Most a time i check on different crypto currency exchange for the market capitalisation of Bitcoin and most time the also serves as a guide, fundamental issues like positive news about Bitcoin also gives me confidence that Bitcoin market value Will continue to grow. There are prediction of Bitcoin value reaching  $40,000 before end of December next year already and there was a prediction before now that Bitcoin market value Will reach  $15,000 before end of December this year and currently it is above that already and we expecting it to hit $20,000 before end of December this year.

Confidence isnt a new thing here on bitcoin investment which even though its not a magic bullet but you cant really remove it on investors mind about those assumptions since we did already witness this thing to rose up its price upto these years.I would say that price increase or movement do really need fundamentals all the time and cannot be read up or use up by some technical analysis which i did already observe when i was trading this thing.

There is really no much indicator as you have to still make some decisions based on what you can see. All you have is your own skills and following of trend to know what the outcome of a particular trade may be. Without that, you will only end up getting lost. Most times I watch out for the activities on the charts to know what I can apply and usually, I look out for triangular formations, the OBV and some downtrend followed by resistance breaking.

It is true that optimism is not enough to justify our decisions in the market, but to be honest, after a decade of experience trading in different markets, I have come to the conclusion that the indicators of technical analysis do not seem to provide sufficient reliability to predict with absolute certainty the future performance of the markets, and this is especially true in a market as new and volatile as it is the crypto market.

Honestly, I don't use any indicators as I suspect that the movement of bitcoin is mostly due to sentiment, rather than the practical nature of the technology.

The trend appears to be as follows;

1. Headlines promoting a new bitcoin high make the rounds as bitcoin nears a new peak
2. New investors notice these headlines, and invest out of sentiment
3. The influx of new investors causes demand to outstrip supply, meanwhile exchanges struggle with the loan, further increases scarcity.
4. More headlines appear and the cycle continues until exchanges cope with the increased activity
5. The price drops around 10-20% until the next wave starts again.

Outside candlestick formation and pattern, nor of the technical indicators can actually predict bitcoin price as this market is too volatile more than stocks and forex. If you are knowllegable in trading You will agree with me that bitcoin support and resistance level does not hold and you have to be skillful in trading in other to spot the signal from candlestick formations before knowing the change in price directions.

Bollinger's Band, RSI , MACD I use. But the technical event on the cryptocurrency is more fiable I think to predict movement .

I usually use Bollinger, RSI, MACD to predict the next candlestick chart of bitcoin as well as other altcoin. Next peak of bitcoin is $ 20000 and then it will return $ 16000. 2018 will be a boom year for bitcoin and crypto.

Like many others have said already, there is no 100% accurate way to determine where the price of Bitcoin will be at any point in the future. This doesn't mean that indicators are useless. They can still give you the trends and momentum of the market to provide you an educated guess. I would use a momentum indicator such as RSI or Stochastic Oscillators, large SMA/EMA periods to understand long term movement, and Bollinger Bands for short term changes and catching breakouts. Best of luck with your trading!

There are a lot of trading signal group or trading bot that you can join or use to know the signal about price of all cryptocurrency not only Bitcoin. I think almost traders are using them to get profit from trading, but be careful when you want to buy any trading bot or join any trading signal group cause there are a lot of scam bot and group so you'll lose your Bitcoin if you follow their signal.

Well, since other people are throwing their hats in the ring for applications you can use. I've made a trading bot called Crabby which we are still actively developing. You can use the backtest feature to look at some of the most common signals and see how those strategies would have performed over any time period in the last year. You can then set up bots. Since it's free to use, you don't have to worry about the high costs that some of the other bots make you dish out without knowing if it will help your trading.

If you try it out, let me know what you think!

I do trade Bitcoin with moving average crossing indicator and Bollinger band. This has proof effective and efficient to me as I have about 75% success rate.many robot are also programs based on ma indicator and this makes 200 and 100 moving average on 4 hour chart very effective. I also has a friend that use relatively strength index and this indicator has been very good for him and he has been trading with great success rate. You should peak one of the indicator and development your trading skills with it and from there you may build your expertise around it.

Let me tell you that you are right when you said that "bitcoin is not a stock"

A lot of people are considering bitcoin as a stock, and that is why they use dozens of indicators to try to speculate or descifrate how much is bitcoin going to be worth in a few days/minutes/months.

Those indicators that are always being used on forex or stocks, are not going to work by the same way on the crypto markets, only because they work different, and the price of each is different too.

Cryptos are just purely based on speculation, real currencies or stocks/commodities are only based on facts, informations, reserves, and so on.

Confidence holding of bitcoiners make not so many bitcoiners panic sell. Panic sell will make price dump but its not happen in bitcoin because of bitcoiners very confidence with the price will go up.
About indicator, i never use any indicator to trade in crypto, i just use how much bid and ask in orderbook.

Absolutely, there is no indicator to predict on the value of bitcoin all you have to do is to monitor its value on the different sites which you can see it's char. Those economist as bitcoin exoert can't determined directly they need to study some information which to be gathered in order to conclude. Most bitcoin expert speculates that the value of bitcoin will increased by as much as $20,000 which already happening since today is holiday season.

No way: bitcoin is so different form usual currencies (or stock market) that no indicator has any value at present.

I'm a big fan of Elliot waves, and until september I was pretty sure bitcoin respected them; then, suddenly, it exploded :(

So, use indicators if you want, but I don't see any advantage

I have see tweet from expert from  both crypto currencies and our traditional financial systems, moving Bitcoin price up or pull it down completely. No, I don't think there is any indicator that usually predict bitcoin price movement. The only thing you need to do as a trader is to be mindful of the price flow of bitcoin and watch the market cap.  Another thing you can do is to follow the predictions of some Bitcoin experts probably in their social media networks or in their blogs or sometimes in forums discussion. Their predictions are most times accurate and sometimes tends not to be. And also, Bitcoin is not stock and shouldn't be compared to it.

For me the best indicators are the news, if the news about bitcoin the expect that its price will go up and if it is bad then expect that it will go down. Another indicator is by using this forum, read speculations or make a thread and poll asking how much price of bitcoin will sell their bitcoin then after that you can analyze the market and set your own goals.

That is the crazy things about this world. We will always have whales and they definitely have the upper hand in the market. They know what they are doing, and they make use of some of these indicators, to either drive market up or down for their own profit, which they do for their own profit.

The main thing is to always think like them and be very smart to make some moves which you cannot, if you end up not using some of those indicators to make good predictions.

So your indicators are useless in order to do this kind of analysis

Cryptocurrencies are represented by a huge number of digital currencies, which are both similar to each other, and at the same time are fundamentally different from each other. Prognostication of the Bitcoin price can be done by analyzing the correlation between the main cryptos. Correlation of the crypto-currency has the greatest importance for compiling an investment portfolio. Definition of correlation implies the identity of the movement of the price of absolutely different trading assets. All digital currencies belong to the same industry, so the influence of industry-wide news, for example, the problems of working with the exchange, can bring down the rate simultaneously for all crypto-currencies.

Moving average indicator has always helped me anyway, but the truth is that you cannot rely on just only one particular indicator to make decisions. OBV, RSI, Bollinger bands, and so on should be combined to have a solid stand on your decision and know that the decision you are making is actually one that is highly worth taking. With the MA anyway, you can do pretty well with it.

Indicators normally won't give exact prediction, they are just mainly good for following trends, but there are sometimes you can use some retracement to know how to predict what a value could get to before a particular trend ends. However, when following trends with some of the indicators, and most especially, indicators like MA or RSI, then you cannot miss it.

No one can predict accurately the value or price of bitcoin but you can use trend reversal signal indicators and some other few indicators like MA to know how to play the market to your favor and profit. It is not ABC, but at least if you know how to use them very well, then you can really do well in your trading.

Most of these indicators have to be mixed anyway to get the best out of them, so you have to learn as much as you can. In my experience, combination of more than one indicator always works better for accurate predictions as it will be based on more confirmations.

Bitcoin price movement is not a easy job for me without these indicators. Along with these indicators, i also track about daily bitcoin-related activities so that i don't miss the fundamental factors that influences the bitcoin price movement and by this way, I predict the bitcoin movement.

We've been monitoring and analyzing the market through blockfolio and it seems that the bitcoin dropping of value is not yet finished. There is lot of situations occurred these past few weeks which is one of the reasons why the market is still unpredictable.

You are right news about cryptocurrency can trigger the demand up or down, that's my opinion, for example when hardfort bch still long bitcoin price tends to decrease, but when ahead of HF and there is giving BCH 1: 1 bitcoin price up, correct if I wrong :) .

There are some investors or holders preferred to use indicators where they can predict the price or the indicator help them to predict but there are also some of the holders are much more prefered on their own skills on how they predict the price of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not stocks but there do behave the same way and you can used your trading stocks knowledge for bitcoin trading or investment. It might see different but most times obey the same trading rules and investment! I have been using candlesticks formation in trading forex and the same thing I am using in bitcoin/altcoin trading. However we should also praise the impact of fundamentals analysis in bitcoin trading as this always couse most of the price fluctuations we do experience in the market.

I can guarantee that your predictions won't be 100 percent right no matter what . You cannot manipulate Bitcoin and decide it's price. Who knows some banker comes out of nowhere and calls Bitcoin fraud again. Then it might easily fall down and then people will panic sell Bitcoins. Also we have every right to make estimations and act according to that , but we should always be prepared for some changes in it and act accordingly.

I can say yes. It's imposible as a trader if not using Indicators. Some trader experts said, at least you have to used 3-5 indicators while trading. My personal indicators are RSI, CCI, Ichimoku Cloud and Bollinger Bands. Those indicators are enough to me for gain profits as a swing trader.

I have been using candlesticks pattern and price action in trading stock or spot forex successfully although most of the times when using it with bitcoin it defies technical analysis however fundamental news most often propel the prices of Cryptos e.g bitcoin I think indicators might work well on long term  frame I.e  daily or weekly timeframe might not work well on shorter timeframe e.g hourly timeframe due to it's high volatility.

I do not use any indicators to determine the future price of bitcoins or altcoins , although it is recommended to use them to better understand the outcome of future value. However if you compare it with forex, we do not find much tools here in bittrex and poloniex as they have only limited indicators.

Yes i do use many indicators both technical and fundamental indicators in order to predict the bitcoin price movement, something like RSI,Bollinger bands, Volume price analysis, Price action, and ADX by which i have mastered the trading skills. Bitcoin price movement is not a easy job for me without these indicators. Along with these indicators, i also track about daily bitcoin-related activities so that i don't miss the fundamental factors that influences the bitcoin price movement and by this way, I predict the bitcoin movement.
Predicting bitcoin is not that easy and sometimes you just have to make use of your discretion as you keep using the indicators. The thing is that you cannot do without them and for those who think news is all they need; they will always end up missing the most important part of a good trade which we all know indicators can only help you achieve.

Once you know what you are looking for, set an entry and exit position and stick to it as you move with the trend to help with your decision making.

Its not really necessary for those exchanges to put up the same indicators just like what we saw on forex because they do know that TA wont really be always effective on trading cryptos but yet they do still put up the basic indicators and some tools on putting up trend lines, support and resistance TA would really be already just fine for me. Dont need for those complicated techtools.

One of the reasons why people here on forum are confidently enough to say that Bitcoin will go up is because of what they read on an article from reliable sources. Another thing is that, being confident gives them a good result because bitcoin really increased in just a month. I actually monitor the movement of the market and it’s a good thing to do. We cannot blame them for being confident because that’s what an investors needs.

In any currencies fluctuation was in hard to define, because sometimes it was increasing up and sometimes it was decreasing down. Also we don't need to indicators to predict the movement of bitcoin in the market, because if you believe in this coin only you need to do is to hold it and trust that this crypto are going into the moon in the future. I know it is hard to believe but this is the reality that we need to believe.

Trade/ invest world is not an easy way to make money and that's way, indicator created to help us find the buy/ sell area as a sign. From your post, I believe you say, we only trust " trend " and supported by news ( fundamental ). Let me try it, not all people like you say because there's also technical indicator ( depend chart price action & volume ) and I'm part of it. To decide my strategy ( op, tp, sl ) only use valid number data not news and until now still give me income. About people who believe ( faith ) about bitcoin and see only news, as long give income, it's not problem.

Indeed, no one can predict the price of Bitcoin properly. But I think Bitcoin is currently moving towards a positive path. One of the indicators that I use often is that I see how Bitcoin is currently being trusted, when Bitcoin has more and more users, so I'm pretty sure there will be a Bitcoin price increase. This is a law of demand and I believe this also happens to all things including Bitcoin.

Yes ofcourse , i usually uses the indication in the news and rumours that runs in the social media platforms .
If you can consider the past where a news was rapidly spreading in the cryptocurrency that china is going to ban icos and exchange and at that time i realised fully that people will leave trust with the cryptocurrency investment and in that case they wi withdraw thier investment .
Thus i n the same way i make consideration that what may be done in the incoming time with the rumours and news and that will results into with most probability that i considering  .and i also think that these are better way to make trading .

In the past I used to use the technical analysis I used in the Forex market to apply to the bitcoin candlestick analysis, but things did not work out because the bitcoin fluctuated too large and did not follow the rule of thumb. Anyway. Much of the knowledge I gained from the forex market that I applied to the commercial crypto was to find support and resistance.

Most indicators are bullshit for predicting the price, there isn't a proper way to predict it.
Just remember that the market is only created based on speculation, fear, and hype, nothing more than that.
So your indicators are useless in order to do this kind of analysis
You have a point as the market is filled with a lot of uncertainty and that is why you really need to make use of stop loss a lot when trading cryptocurrency. However, this does not mean that indicators do not work as you can use some combinations of indicators with your discretion to be able to pull off a good trade and best way is to also be able to follow trend with your indicators.

There are a lot here who really try to learn the price movements and predict what would be the next by looking at the price charts. Usually when the price goes down, traders are still confident that it will go up right after.

It is not like bitcoin is totally unpredictable. If we just pay a little more attention to things, we can discover some secrets about them for sure. For instance, holidays can be used as an indicator for predicting bitcoin. The prices do fall during them and we all know this.

There are some indicators for bitcoin. People try to put their analysis up based off log charts, but even then, you're not going to be able to ever constantly call what the bitcoin price will be. The best indicators a crypto trader has is the news. Not analysis news, but technological advancement, investor news, just anything that discusses if people will be putting their money into the coin. If you find this, you'll see that the price rises. Ok?
