I think I will stick to bitcoins going higher further just like americanpegasus predicted. Even there are lots of new coins that offers more than bitcoin does (in terms of fees and speed). I think most of them will struggle as some says utilization is one of the keys in order for a coin to survive and that what Bitcoin has.

I hope this kind of agony to the traders of Bitcoin will stop although we can't deny the fact that Bitcoin price is very high since the day it was started but the only problem here is the delays and high transaction fees. Does ethereum never encountered such events like this?

If Lightning Network will be released i wonder how it will went through this year, everyone is making their own move to make a change to this unstoppable agony.

The only thing that i expect for the next year is just to see bitcoin more stable than during this year, to see it with lower fees, with transactions much more faster than what they are right now.. and of course, the lightning network.

I think bitcoin will be the same today and tomorrow also. No one can really replace it's place at the first glance. I'm sure there are lots of coins but the thing is they don't have that much outreach as the bitcoin is having. For example, bitcoin was successfully in achieving the 300 billion market cap in very short period after lots of struggle like scale up problem, transaction congestion and much more. This proves that inevstment do not want bitcoin let go and thus they are increasing its weightage a lot in first place.

This can't happen with other coins. Yes people might say Ethereum but I don't think investors really wanna go way around bitcoin. In addition to this we don't know yet how bitcoin will behave in the next year.

2018 will still be the year of bitcoin. It will still continue to dominate the market. Right now, more and more investors are hooked to bitcoin. And there is no stopping. The price is still expected to go up.

I think that in the upcoming 2018, this was the first bitcoin unshakable position, and now has more than 40% of the funds in this one coin in the market, this is the encryption currency bitcoin community trust decision, I don't think that ETH has the ability to replace it in a short time. The high transaction costs and the speed of congestion have always been a problem, which will keep bitcoin trading in the trading market down in the next few years.

It will still be bitcoin year. Why would any other coin be the year of that coin? I do think that bitcoins will still go up in the next years as basically it is not done yet going up and it will not stop here. Bitcoins is not yet done, it has not even gone mainstream and look at where it is now. Imagine if it would go mainstream and would be used in a lot more places than just online.

Creating expectations for a year of 2018 with continued excellent results, as more people have known and invested with the prospects of making big profits. Let's see if it really materializes with excellent results in 2018 as it was in 2017.

If we talk about altcoins, then to be honest I'm pretty sure that the new year will be the year of NEO. But, in any case, the best results in 2018 will have to show Bitcoin

For me the year 2017 was just the beginning and of its life, and the coming years to come will be more great than this year, in the coming years a lot of people will race just to buy bitcoin even in those countries that banned bitcoin, for sure their government will eventually open their eyes with this concept.

Now after this correction we are coming back on track but still many things to do in new year first of all now transactions fee is very high need to bring down this and transaction need to be very quick then we can see more stability and growth because now if these issue not going to solved then its going to be very serious problems in near future

Yes definitely 2017 was Bitcoin's year.Now as we are witnessing Bitcoin's popularity and growth,we can say that 2018 will also be the Bitcoin's year.Many people have invested in Bitcoin because they know they will receive use profits in a very short period of time.More and more people want to enroll themselves in Bitcoin and want to take benefits of bitcoin.It is the leading cryptocurrency in today's date and no other cryptocurrency has the potential to overtake it.

2017 was Bitcoin's year only as much as the other years preceding it were - I agree it'll always be remembered as the watershed year for Bitcoin for many reasons. Some say this was the exact point between disruptive tech and mass adoption (I somewhat disagree, but can concede that this year it entered mainstream consciousness, if you also feel JP Morgan and co are the mainstream of the mainstream). This was also the year it shrugged off all the previous barriers to 1k and is now in five digit figures, probably throughout 2018.

But others will remember 2017 for the year of regulations, the year of Litecoin, the year of the forks - arguably all Bitcoin related anyway. 2018 will still belong to Bitcoin, though, sorry to disappoint you. Expect more drama, expect Bitcoin Cash to renew its fight. Expect the hype, superlatives and politics to continue.

My prediction is; If you think 2017 was an inpressive year - you have seen nothing yet. I think 2018 will make your head spin. There will be many new highs and even some lows but overall it will be the year when an even greater number of people get involved in Bitcoin and crypto generally.

From what I have heard, Matt Colarllo thinks that we may see the lightning network by the end of 2018, so there is going to be another entire year of complains and cries about the fees going up, this is going to make the drama even worse when it comes to the BCash scam getting more traction. A lot of people are going to lsoe their BTC because the idiots think that there are any other altcoin that solves the problem when none does.

If Coinbase, Xapo, Bitpay and the rest of the big payment processors that are the big chunk of the transactions get segwit, fees would go down to cents again, but they are part of the BCash scam.

Bitcoins year 2018 will become a top 1 of a good currency and become a famous entire the whole world...Bitcoin will be the greatest currency and cyrptocurrency of the economics...so users in bitcoins will be stick to one so that it will more improve and more power of Bitcoin😍

It will be the year of blockchain
blockchain technology is just getting started, i am very sure we will see its implementation in various things.
Not to mention, it has already become a hot topic for hackathons all around the world. I myself have participated in a blackthorn where we were asked to make blockchain based applications.
Bitcoin is just getting started, i am sure more and more people will invest and get to know of it. Media is already doing its working making it more reachable to the people unknown of this technology, atleast here in India.
Also, i have a huge trust on eth, it won't be surprising if it becomes more popular than bitcoin in upcoming years.

With the issues stated by the OP I think this year will be about Ripple (XRP). I have seen how fast and how cheap the transactions are for XRP and it has recently achieved a milestone in crossing the one dollar mark. There have also been a lot of talks in the trading group related to cryptocurrency that they are banking in for XRP next year, they have also a solid reason why from XRP being backed by banks to its terrific looking charts. But don't get me wrong Bitcoin will still have a wonderful year next year.

I agree, Bitcoin with it's high fees and slow transaction times is hardly suitable for payments – spending the same fee whether you buy a coffee or send $100,000 is a joke and the promise of scaling solutions such as the Lightning Network hasn’t been fulfilled.

Year 2017 was surely of Bitcoin, with more than 1600% increase in the price of Bitcoins, Reaching both milestones of 1k$ per coin to 10k$ per coin in the same year.

But Year 2018 will be the year of Ethereum or in general, of Blockchain.
The door is wide open for blockchains that use smart contracts, like Ethereum, and I believe their potential market dwarfs that of "store of value" chains. Platforms like ethereum are an operating system for decentralized finance and commerce.


Low transaction fees and fast confirmations are attracting more people to switch to Ethereum. I am confident that it will reach 1000$ per coin in early 2018.

In the year 2018, bitcoin will be more stable and valuable than before.it will be more popular and it can be taught to some schools.many people will try to use it and it will help some to get rich. It's security will be more reliable and of course, hackers and scammers will take advantage of this too. I believe that 2018 will still be bitcoin's year. It has proven already that bitcoin has all the potential and it has been surprising us that it will strike more that our expected value. I'm looking forward for 2018 by being optimistic so I'll stick with bitcoin that gave and helped me a lot thins year. I know that bitcoin will prove us more next year.

I think in 2018 it will be easier to just invest in some thrash coins and earn like 10/100 or even 1000 more cause of still growing amount of crypto users.

For me it will still be the year of bitcoin, lightning network should be release by next year so any network issues will be solve although that is not guaranteed but i till believe bitcoin will surge its price next year especially approaching december again.

2018 will lead to the shaping up of bitcoin. Btc's foundation was not very firm but now it has become widely acclaimed and valuable so I'll most likely continue investing into btc even though there are some transaction issues and high volatility rates btc is one of the best investments one can invest into for making long term profits.

I think 2017 was a for regulations of cryptos in most parts of the world

and 2018 should be a bigger for adoption as investors will no longer have anything to fear besides the price which should start to rise after all the festive celebrations.

I agree with what Stingers said above. 2018 will be a a massive year for blockchain technology. So many new products are going to be coming out of the woodwork and have working applications. Just having these different alt tokens being integrated into the working products and showing the general population that these different alt tokens have value is going to be huge. Once the average investor starts bringing some money into these new blockchain apps is what I predict will happen in 2018.

My hope in 2018 is a stable Bitcoin price, so that trading or transaction will be maximal again. But behind it all I will stick to Bitcoin, because progress is getting better. In addition, the price of Bitcoin is also very high, and I am sure the price of Bitcoin will be huigher in the next year.

Yes, the year 2017 is a very successful year for bitcoin and I think the 2018 is going to be shining on few of the altcoins as well such BitcoinCash, Litecoin, Ripple, and ZeroCoin.

I strongly have reason to think that 2018 will be the year for many alt coins to shine. Some might even fill a large gap between them and Bitcoin.

I think some altcoins will be pump in 2018 maybe ethereum or litecoin, I don't think that bitcoin will pump in 2018 its hard to predict that bitcoin pump like happened this year, I'm aware of the fee of the bitcoin if this keeps increase. We all know we can profit with bitcoin when its pump up but the fee pump up as well. :(

I agree with you that 2018 will be an ethereum year. There so much probability that it will sky rocket this coming year due to increasing number of ICOs that are supproted by eth. But I doubt that it will surpass bitcoin's mark in the price charts. Bitcoin will remain dominating but etherium will have a massive increase in price next year.

In addition to investment, ETH does have more advantages than special currency on its application. I hope 2018 will be a great development of block chain technology. There will be more practical projects and block chain combination. We hope that one or two altcoin with complete technology can challenge bitcoin.

Talking about percentage growth alone, there are at least over 10 altcoins which showed a higher growth rate, edging out Bitcoin by a long margin. Indeed going from $1k to $20k is pretty significant but even alts like ETH went from a single digit figure to nearly $500 which is big. So I'm calling 2018 to be the year of altcoins which will outgrow the likes of Bitcoin.

2018 will still be bitcoin's year albeit the hiccups on the year-end portion of 2017 for all cryptos. A bunch of unknowing opportunists would still be in the game and would also be the main reason to drive the price upwards despite the setbacks from the bears and negative news and whatnot. New money is still going to pour in the cryptoworld--especially in bitcoin and bitcoin cash--and that's for sure now that they see that there's a lot of profit to be made in this virtual currency invented by geeks.

There are obviously a lot of good looking coins in the market and we have no doubt about that, but we all know that no matter how far they go, bitcoin will always be the first priority of anyone around this industry. I don't think a person would keep his funds in any alternative coin for a long term like how everyone does with Bitcoin. Ethereum is having a good value these days and hopefully it will be doing well in 2018, so if anything beside bitcoin i have to choose, i would choose Ethereum as well.

It is true that the year 2017 is the year in which bitcoin prices have gone up but by the end of the year, prices have continued to fall and are worried about rising prices in 2017 this is a sign that bitcoin will become big bubbles and will be destroyed by 2018. The next year should be more interesting because actually, in 2017 mainstream starting to get Bitcoin attention, and the chart shows its just a first stage of movement. I would rather srick with bitcoin since many of the large company has invested in it and trust bitcoin. Rather than investing on alternatives it is still better to put my chips on the most successful cryptocurrency than taking on another risk on alternative coins. But i would also not close my door on altcoins too.

The topic should be changed because the introduction to this post is different from the tittle of the topic, but nevertheless let me make a succinct contribution. The high transactions fee we are experiencing in bitcoin is as a result of some challenges witness by some big mining farms most especially the accident in China, and that is also responsible for the slow in confirmation of transactions there where no enough miners to conduct the high rate of transactions carried out in the bitcoin community. And back to ur tittle the year 2017 is term bitcoin year while 2018 will be bitcoin year of taking over the financial system.

2017 is really a good year for bitcoin especially the last quarter this year and the possibility that 2018 is also a good year for bitcoin is open if we change some issue including transaction cost and speed.

I do not understand with hardfork, this does not fix anything, or reduce the density of transaction traffic.
just make everyone happy with new coins. should hadfork be the solution to the speed of cheap Bitcoin transactions and fees.

I think in the year 2018 its going be a roller coaster ride for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. Since bitcoin dominates 2017, 2018 will become a new year battleground for all cryptocurrency just like Ethereum, IOTA, ripple, monero etc. It will also become a year of smart contracts, where ICO's will become more popular and blockchain technology will boost its role in the community, its gonna big next year for sure!

2018 I think is a year in which we can safely say that as the trend is rising it can lead into a lot of more progressions into bitcoin and cryptocurrency as a whole. with the passing years it has been proven that it leads to growth of digitized currency

I think bitcoin will increase more in year 2018. There are some assumption that it will jump to 100K usd end of 2018. Well, let us see. For Alts, there are so many promising projects. And for my assumption, many alts will also fly higher.

It is truth high fees and slow transaction time are the biggest disadvantages for mass using.
The XRP represents the other and opposite site which is low cost and fast transactions.
The next coin is Solaris XLR which has ripple's advantages and much more like zero coin protocol, masternodes POS, POW etc.

So my picks for 2018 are XLR and XRP. One with small cap and second with huge. We ll see what will grow faster  8)

I think 2018 will be very much exciting for bitcoin market since this year ends with a very beautiful year for bitcoin I think this will continue in the coming years. Bitcoin become very successful and still working to grow much even better which makes it more exciting and interesting to many holder and investors. I guess that 2018 will be more successful for many cryptocurrencies especially to bitcoin and surely It will always be at the top of the coins and the king of all and in the next year I think that the price will become so superior (maybe this value will be close to 100K). Moreover, there are some Altcoins which may will have an evolution of the price (like : Litecoin, Ripple, Bitcoin cash...) but  it's hard  that there are  some currencies can exceed Bitcoin.

We can never know which coin will outstand all other coins. Still, bitcoin is the most valuable of all and is the most utilized coin. One year isn't enough for a new king of cryptocoins. Ethereum may be a candidate but it would take more years for it to gain superiority.

2018 will be a very very good bitcoin year. We all know that bitcoin is definitely and completely make our 2017 very happy and tich ina  sense that its value reaches a new and good hign value. And I believe that what we achieved in 2017 will be doubled or tripled or even quadrupled in 2018 because bitcoin will definitely kick again in 2018.

Me too think that ethereum will be hot topic in the year 2018. It has already given us some futuristic glimpses after the November pop. The project and vitalik team is all behind this and they just want everything get done in the step by step manner. This is why it took lots of time for ETH to catch the heavy prices. Now that ETH is running with full speed (almost) it will also gain the status quo in year 2018. We can literally expect the prices of 1000 USD and above easily as more inevstors are gonna get the ETH in next month. That’s confirmed because it can be clearly seen with current market depth of ETH.

in this year bitcoin price indeed could able to rise up to unexpected price but the bad things the fees transactions increase rapidly too but confirmation of transactions was pretty slow but i personally will stick to bitcoin as my main investment although there are several altcoin probably will increase from popularity side but in my view bitcoin will still lead them

Bitcoin will still drive the cryptocurrency market in 2018. However, in 2018 there will be a great showing of the various altcoins whose development plan matures in 2018. ETH will gain more popularity in 2018.

I have a lot of confidence in Bitcoin in 2018 and I have many ideas that Bitcoin will dump on the last day of 2017 and will pump back soon after that to catch the new year.

I do not have much faith in bitcoin in 2018 because in 2017 bitcoin was so successful and achieved tremendous success so maybe next year bitcoin will stand still.

I'm not sure if in 2018 Bitcoin remains expensive, I'm sure that in 2018 that will be the most expensive or valuable coin Etherium possible, because now bitcoin prices are falling, maybe in 2018 Etherium coin will be more expensive in than Bitcoin in 2017. so if I think in know 2018 is Etherium coin period.

Cardano, ADA is going to be a huge coin in 2018. I can see it over taking ETH. But never BTC.

I don't see that being the case, Cardano is a newcomer to the scene whereas ETH has been around a while. I think 2018 can be the year that ETH can pull itself close to bitcoin in terms of market cap and challenge for no 1 spot. I agree ADA will do well but not as well as you are predicting.

The next year 2018 is still going to be bitcoin's year . I agree that the fees and time are major deal breakers but still the market has always favored bitcoin and the investors always put there trust and money on the bitcoin market. So, thinking that any other coin can overtake bitcoin is not what you want cause that's not gonna happen , at least not in the next few years. Also, no doubt there are a lot of other coins in the market with better things to offer but a person new in this line would always try to invest in bitcoin as it is the most heard cryptocurrency all over the world .

I will stick on Bitcoin coz I start here and it will be the last here in Bitcoin . I'm happy to do Bitcoin. I know they can earn a million there but we can also earn here that amount . Still I'm stick in bitcoin.

I think the bitcoin price at the end of 2017, it's quite a good price, but by next year 2018 it will be even higher, compared to the current year, even though bitcoin prices are now pretty good, this is an opportunity for investors to invest in bitcoin, as seen the price to come is very high I will get more profit. if you want to change your good life, you can invest in bitcoin to get more profit.

Recently bitcoin proved to be the worst (long transactions and high commissions). If this is not corrected, then it seems to me that next year there will be alternatives to bitcoins.

Alothough bitcoin has not been a great way of payment and does not have a fast transaction time, it is still the best cryptocurrency to ivest in, bitcoin is and will forever be the crypto users's favorite, and that is reflected from its price and how it was able to reach crazy numbers this year, and since it became very popular thsi year many have invested their money in it, and that is why it will always emerge trimphthed, so maybe in 2018 we won't see a fast or a crazy growth like this year, but defiently it will always stay on top, and will always keep on growing.

Bitcoin has already increased more than 18 times during this year, now it is the turn for altcoins.

I strlogly believe that bitcoin will still maintain a strong position in the currency market but other currencies may be as good as bitcoin. In my opinion, Etereum also has a chance to become one of the best currencies.

I see bitcoin still making the topmost cryptocurrency coin but i also have high beliefs that altcoins are going to soar high this 2018.Bitcoin will not really lost its position being the most trusted and popular coin among others and next to it would be altcoins.There are also good potentials for some altcoins that even at the present year they are starting to make rooms to grow even better.

Bitcoin will continue to be the gold standard of the crypto world in 2018. But I believe it will become more and more stable just like gold (some will be disappointed to see poor returns) :D

I think the year 2018 will be the year of assets created on waves and waves. Because investors will discover the advantages of non-centralized stock markets, this will be the stock market. This will increase the volume. The first non-decentralized stocks I estimate to increase the volume of Waves Dex.

We know it has always been Bitcoin and the others - altcoins, each having its own clear cut path to follow with aim of realizing the blockchain promises. 2017 is an impressive year for Bitcoin, but not without rubbing off on virtually all other coins, Ether inclusive. In the same vein, 2018 is going to be a year of consolidation and huge advancement. The issues with fees and confirmation time are such as every ground breaking discovery took, the road has never been without thorns. At any rate, Lighting Network is in the offing and once implemented would address those issues. Bitcoin remains the flagship coin and even now, it's apparent no altcoin have got what it takes to push Bitcoin aside.

I am not sure where the obsession of the forum with "year of" came from really. If something really goes well, I can't always say it is "the year of that something". Perhaps it was just really a good year for that something, be it bitcoins or some other altcoin.

Though if we are really just talking about which altcoin or will bitcoin have another good year, then I think bitcoins will again exceed expectations in 2018 and I am guessing there are some altcoins that would likely succeed. Aside from bitcoins, I would always place my bets on ETH as something that could replace bitcoins in the long run but that is a possibility that may not happen as I think bitcoins will always be the "internet gold".

Fair point. However, it just takes CryptoKitties clogging the system on chain, another hack or some other fail for ETH to lose its spot.

Well it depend on bitcoin believer or maybe user that is really faithfull in bitcoin in a market based conclussion i believe that the greater the demend the higer its price back to the user or consumer same as in bitcoin world of investing bitcoin canreally fall down if  there will be no more people who have inerest on it bit i think it is hard not to tbink about botcoin today because it is really trending because we really gain in a verry simple way on it.I believe that 2018 will surpass the bitcoin fever in 2017 thise year is really amazing.

For me I think 2018 would still be bitcoin's year, and maybe a little some for other altcoins. This is truth that in the current time bitcoin is not better for making small Transaction and also to make fast transaction with low fee because we need to spend more than what we need to pay from another coin .

I concur exactly, I was also shocked that Coinbase took the steps it took on BCH when just before the August fork they said they would not support the coin then held the coin from August - December with out a word as to their thinking except that they would release the coins to those accounts holding BTC prior to the fork, on Jan 1, 2018 then to release them just days before Christmas. It stunk to high heaven what they did, lost a bunch of credibility.

I don't know, what writers choose about the growth of coin in coming year but I believe bitcoin will rise more as its demand and popularity increases among people. If there is going to be any suppression of bitcoin by any altcoin, it won't happen this 2018 defineatly. The reason it won't happen this year is simply that change is hard to accept and thus, always resisted. Even where it would happen subsequently in the future, it won't be a forked coin from bitcoin . Being well known and not being well known makes no sense to me. I like it as it is now, and I believe the population it's okay. If others doesn't want to make use of BTC, you can't force them cause it's all their choice. I've seen some people predicting that Bitcoin will reach the price rate of $50,000 in this 2018. I won't say anything about that as of now, cause this was the same thing that happened in 2016 when some people were saying it will reach $15,000 and I doubted it, but to my surprise it did.

Of course there's no doubt that 2018 will still be the year of bitcoins. However, there will be a lot of altcoins that will challenge bitcoin dominance, like Ripple and Ethereum. I think this is the year the mass public will start to adopt cryptocurrency and be more educated on them. It's still fairly complex to get everything setup for a beginner, however I think this year we will also learn about altcoins.

Yes thats teue I see Bitcoin being successful this year specially because a massive number of people were added to be included in this platform to earn also , which may contribute a lot to the value of Bitcoin, which is I am very lucky to be part of.  This year allegedly was the end of Bitcoin as they say, on the contrary the news and updates regarding Bitcoin was very positive.

So far we have seen that it is the year of Ripple and Ethereum i think amongst a few other altcoins like RaiBlocks. To be honest Bitcoin is still the big hitter but it is likely to shift further to altcoins and i think we may even see bitcoin dominance hit 25% which is an all time low. I honestly think that we haven't yet seen some coins that will hit the top 10 i.e they are still in development stage or are yet to be created, there is still so much further the tech can be pushed and so many more people to get into the game!

In the early 2017 bitcoin was only the most performing coin in the market, but man, in the early 2018 some altcoin are too heating up very high such Ethereum, Ripple, ADA, and IOTA. I think 2018 is going to be an amazing year for both bitcoin, ethereum, ripple and some of remaining altcoins. 

All the drama came from the miners, they did not wanted to accept the proposal of the devs and then they created several forks as a response then some people decided to take advantage of the situation and that is why we have so many forks, I hope this changes as the LN gets activated and we have no more reasons to have those forks.

I believe that bitcoin will still strike higher this year. Bitcoin has always been surprising to I put my trust in it. It strikes the value that hit higher than our expectations so I  will still stick with it. It will never fail us and I'm so sure about that. I'm looking forward for a 2018 with positivity and I'm grateful that it has been a part of my 2017.

Yeah bitcoiners just go and hit the mark, last year was the best of the best for bitcoins as much progress have been shown by bitcoins last year. Same is expected this year too and for that we have to buy bitcoins and take interest in them so that better results can be drawn from them. Bitcoin has now higher transaction fees than before because of the congestion in the network, and honestly, it pisses me off also. But despite of that, I still choose btc other than alts.

I agree. I think, since bitcoin holds the most potential amongst most, if not, all cryptocurrencies in the market. Every year will be bitcoin's year, it's just a matter of what altcoin could actually be in the same stride as bitcoin in terms of gain. Although, it is already sure that no other cryptocurrency would reach the price point bitcoin is in right now, there's always a possibility that a promising altcoin would come to rise and increase value significantly that can make the attention of many traders and investors shift like what's happening with Ripple and LTC right now.

Both ethereum and bitcoin are great coin, but if I were to choose which is in my favor, i would choose bitcoin. Of course there are instances that bitcoin has its limitations and encounter struggle while transacting but it is not the point that i will stop using it.

Early this month, we should even go back to test the previous top and that is the exact moment I am really looking forward to and waiting for to start seeing the next way up. This what I'm thinking but even this year will be the same movement as bitcoin moved on 2017. It's still a good price difference if bitcoin will keep on moving just like last year. I'm afraid I got to disagree with the statement that 2017 was the year of Bitcoin. It was the year of crypto in general and many cryptos outperformed bitcoin during the year. And I believe the same will happen in 2018.

To be fair 2017 was not only bitcoin's but it was crypto year too, seems it continues like that currently but that doesn't means it will be like that this year. So much pump isn't good, especially if it will continue this year, it will only make situation worse. Imagine something that had 600$ value, become 19000, will you have hope that it will rise so much that it can give you a solid profit? I guess most people will say no. So if it fall to 6000$, this will be better and regulate some current unexpected conditions.

ETH lost terrain simply because the icos have suffered great blows in the last year, first the banning of icos in china and then the need to give up personal information to a bunch of people that I will not trust my money, so  this has affected ETH negatively and Ripple has benefited out of it.

I am wondering what makes you think that. I mean alts are already done with their spiking and showing up the highest they could go. In all I believe ETH might just do some sort of miracle and then we can see that being competing with the BTC investors.

However in long terms bitcoin has always won the race and whatever we are seeing today is just the effect of Korean matter. Until we get it resolved and until we make sure that we have faster way of transferring the BTC then BTC won't go up high enough. I think 2018 will be year of  altcoins, because they resolve some bitcoin's problems, such as high fees for every transaction and slow  confirmation. I see potential in altcoin called IOTA.

I think IOTA and XRB will do extremely well this year. People will start hearing about DAG and understand how it differs from blockchain.

It will still be bitcoin. Currently, ethereum exchange is not convertible to cash on some local exchanges. So people on those countries are forced to use bitcoin. But I have to admit, Ethereum is such a serious to BTC to become the top crypto.

Everyone are betting what they can bet on the table, some people have been holding BTC for so long and because this last December is a huge drawback, because they are expecting that BTC's price will climb up to 40k$. Some waited weeks in order to see if that huge rollback in price will result to a new ATH but not. We are slowly being consumed by the problems like congested network and very high transactions fees. What to do? go to alternatives. I have tried investing on bitcoin cash last year but as to what I'm seeing now. Its pump is still caused by some market manipulation, what worse is that there are so many forks that came after the first fork, which it is an obvious sign that because they cant control BTC's supply, they are making free money through forks and they are not even serious in finding some really helpful currency (or fork) that can solve the transaction time and transaction fees.
So if this lightning network don't do any good, people will turn to other crypto like ethereum.
If you are asking me this will be ethereum year, well IMO Ethereum network can get congested too when delivering a very large number of transactions. It is not a good sign. Last year we started with three price correction and I'm sure that the highest we have achieved in 2017. So its too early to say that this is already a bad year. Bad news is part of the ecosystem, you here already when China closes its local exchanges and Dimon created FUD? that's one massive panic around September which causes the price to go down to $3K range if I'm not mistaken but we get over, and then enjoy one of the best year bitcoin has ever seen, from < $1K to well over $19K. You just need to be patience and keeps holding.

The ultimate results will be happier than those of last year. Because everything is improving and so are the bitcoins. They are grooming every other day and the pole are liking them for being their well-wisher for them. "Understanding a coin" won't really take much time , just by searching for reviews and reading it's white paper you'll be having 80% of the knowledge you'll ever need about it , and it is crucial for any investment to make , even if you don't care about the money you'll be putting in it !

The year 2018 is a very important year for the development of bitcoin and altcoin, this is because enemies or parties who do not like bitcoin have declared war openly, maybe this year will be many countries banned bitcoin but it will never stop the performance of bitcoin, prices will be very volatile but I'm sure the year-end prices will reach at least $ 50k.

Yes I greed that 2017 was bitcoin's year. We witness how fast it grows rapidly in last year. Like everybody's going crazy. But this year, we don't know yet about its future but we can all just hope and expect that this year makes bitcoin more stable. A side from bitcoin, I also want to see Ethereum to become more expensive this year.

For nr 2018 is we will still be the bitcoin's year we should just wait until the price or the value of bitcoin wsd start to pump or to increase very high and this year 2018 is we will be the best year on bitcoin because many more people is we will invest on bitcoin.

2018 will still be bitcoin's year. When you are on top for most of the year it is your year. BUt I do believe that it will also be a great year for Ethereum if their performance last year is any indication.

Don't know about its future but i can just hope and expect that this year makes bitcoin more stable. Growing of bitcoin is good but i want to see Ethereum to become more expensive. There's some more coins and we should support them too.I don't think every year is for bitcoins. Who's know this year makes other coin more expensive.

All we want is bitcoin to be stable and not like this unpredictable situation where there are huge price drop, I hope year 2018 will be the year that bitcoin will have a good foundation and better improvements. I also want some alt coins to shine because they deserve it especially ethereum where way more developed than bitcoin. It is best if more people support and explore alt coins as same as the support they've given to bitcoin, in that way we will have more options to earn and not just focusing on one coin.

For me bitcoin will still be the main choice, it is true ethereum bitcoincash and litecoin also include strong coins, but I think their strength is still far away with bitcoin.

I agree with OP 2017 was really year of bitcoin, everyone were talking about bitcoin, news and many of new miners, but 2018 seems to be altcoins year such as ETH, IOAT, XMR. In 2018 I think will be more stable, than 2017 and think there won't be 300% - 500% raise.

I'm sure by 2018 this is still the year for bitcoin, as there are still many people who believe and are interested in investing in this krypto.

You say it is true, we all had to see if in know 2017 yesterday is the triumph bitcoin, and maybe in year 2018 is also will be the year bitcoin I was sure that bitcoin will also ranked first as money crypto termahal in year 2018, and no coin can drop bitcoin, but if in 2019 I doubt if bitcoin will still be coin most expensive and coin of the most popular.

for me the year 2018 will be a bitcoin year. why is that? seen from bitcoin statistics from year to year increasing rapidly in price. so I think in 2018 this bitcoin will be more uphill again the price. for ethereum and the other in my opinion still can not match bitcoin in this year.

Well I guest by now so many of the challenges of bitcoin that you mentioned are all taken care of, take about the high transactions fees and slow transactions speed are all a thing of the past in bitcoin and in this year 2018 it will be bitcoin year of total taking over and that is going to be accompanied with rise in the price of bitcoin to as high as $50000 before the end of 2018 and bitcoin getting generally accepted by members of the society.

$20,000. This year started with a dump and it's a normal correction with FUD that is why people panic but what is important is that we were able to recover.

If 2017 is bitcoin's year well I believe that 2018 is still bitcoin's year and until so many years to come. Why I can say that? For me I think it would still be Bitcoins year, probably its because it is still young and would have a lot of room for growth most especially the noise it made when it reached to $20k last December. I mean, who would not be interested in Bitcoin especially the investors.

It will be very difficult for any crypto to usurp bitcoin immediately. Initially many altcoins didn't fall anytime bitcoin fell in price. But  as of now when bitcoin goes down most of the other altcoins go down in prices too. Bitcon is the independent variable here. Most of us will go for btc any day ,currently.
