Title: [ANN] Noirbits TAKEOVER ! Update v2.2.5.0 - fixes sync issue
Post by: stbgefltc on August 08, 2013, 07:31:43 PM
I know this may be considered a bold move, heck, some may despise me for this, but...

Considering Noirbits' absolute lack of support by its founder, barwizi, considering I am the only dev' who has pushed any real changes to the Noirbits repository on Github, I propose a takeover from now on.

Version 2.2.5.0 available ! Fixes a blockchain synchronization bug on clients, update now !
Version 2.2.4.0 available ! Windows binaries are available, with UPNP and QR codes. This new version brings two new RPC calls to
better manage your wallet. addnode allows you to dynamically add a new node to your connections, while getprofitestimate will help you plan your Noirbits minting ! And of course, don't forget you can now refund transactions via the windows client...

Website : http://www.noirbits.com

Why should you follow on this takeover ?

  • Massive fork ongoing. As previously announced on the Noirbits thread, the coin is massively forked. At least 4 separate blockchains have been created today. Had barwizi pushed checkpoints like he was supposed, this situation would not have happened. I guarantee that checkpoints will be pushed on this version.
  • Real developer support. I am a professional developer, that's what I do for a living. I may lack some experience in coins compared to old-timers, but I am catching up pretty quickly.
  • Extended features, starting with 0-confirmation refunds. More details on that in an upcoming post.
If you want to follow up, get the client now :

  • Github : https://github.com/ftcminer/Noirbits
  • Windows binaries v 2.2.5.0 (with UPNP support & QR Codes enabled) : https://mega.co.nz/#!h0dzCQJT!H5D3HAmhYh06oeF-WlAW2ibF9VZFBfDOcwB35leFCH4

Coin settings

Coin settings are mostly left intact.

Maximum coins : 21 million.
Block time : 2 minutes.
Block reward: 20 Noirbits.
Retarget : at everyblock, based on the last 30 blocks time average starting at height 33333 Every 30 blocks until further notice. Until then, difficulty rules are unchanged. Old clients will be rejected by this version starting at height 31500. This may seem a short notice, but we're at diff. 10 right now...
Reduced transaction fees : currently, min. transaction fee is 0.1 NRB. Starting at height 31500, it will drop to 0.001 NRB.

Seed nodes

If you encounter sync issues, you can add the following to your Noirbits.conf file

Code:
addnode=54.213.23.213
addnode=54.229.50.161

Pools

The following pool are known or assumed to run on this version of Noirbits, or at least, on the same blockchain :

http://nrb.miners-united.com (confirmed)
http://mnrb.coinmine.pl (confirmed)

Exchanges

As of now, no exchanges trade Noirbits. Cryptsy has suspended Noirbits due to the forks, we are still waiting on their feedback as to what their next move will be. So for now, it's OTC trading only, but be safe, only trade with people you trust or are community trusted.

More info coming up...

A putsch huh.. Hopefully this won't split the great community we have..
Even if he isn't working on the coin recently, barwizi's contribution on the coin and NoirBank has been really helpful and I hope we keep him on our side.

The idea is not to kick him out... if he wants in on this version, he'll be welcome.

i need to read Barwizi's opinion about this.

you have a point, maybe barwizi's time is fragmented between alot of things, but, he is the og dev and taking over doesnt sounds right.

If he doesnt care anymore more about the future of his creation, he has to say it, and the community will follow the dev that wants to step up (i know, you have been active already).

i believe, he wont have any problem to give you the "active dev" mark, but not by forcing yourself into it.

(sorry (again) for my bad english)

Snaider.

You do have a point, but the fork is forcing me to act up. We can't wait for barwizi to randomly show up... I did ask him once for access to the Git, he never replied...

On a side note, pulling out a foocoin clone and changing params does not make you a dev... the only commits he did were pushing checkpoints.

The new wallet doesn't want to sync up. Could the lack of UPNP be in cause? I never had a problem with any of the older clients.

EDIT: I think your move was justified by the emergency situation (Might be unrelated, but the coin just took a hard crash on cryptsy...). Hopefully barwizi just join in on this!

You can add this to your configuration file :

addnode=54.213.23.213

EDIT :I'm still waiting for a reaction from barwizi. He's been active around the forum after I posted this. This should give you a hint on his involvement...

EDIT : I'm working on the UPNP version for Windows.

So are my nodes. Most likely rejecting the next block because of the checkpoint. Apparently, we are not getting connections to the block explorer and other peers who have the proper chain... I'm going to look into it.

EDIT: I'm waiting up on a reply from diatonic to get block data for block 30000. We should then be good to go...

I am not up to date with the current Algo for Noirbits, so take what I have to say with a grain of salt. This is mostly just my observations as a miner who watches the 30+ serious AltCoins that contend for top profitability on a daily basis...

As an example, BottleCaps, I don't know what their Algo for recalculations is, but they can handle multiple MultiPool types of hash power being dumped on them all at once, and it handles it without issue. It bounces back fairly quickly, and it has a decent steady following since it proved it can take the speed bumps well.

Can someone that knows a thing or two about the Algo's compare them with Noirbits?

seems a lot has happened in my absence. I however feel that throwing a quick solution that has not been really thought through and discussed is in bad taste, this coin is not mine, i stressed the point that it is community owned and managed. Giving you access to my git would also give you access to some projects i am not yet willing to share. Make a fork, improve it if you will, and if people like it, i'll integrate it into the main chain. As for blaming me about check points, you are right i slacked on that, but i thought we had agreed that the update you were working on  would include the checkpoints?

Ok, we'll need to add checkpoints also, it's been a while.

I'll let you handle that part. Changes are ready on my repo, I still need to test them so I won't be issuing a pull request yet.

my honest feeling is that you have gone commando on this and added yet another fork, some people have followed your update yet others were waiting for me to say something. I approached this by first asking cryptsy to put a hold on trading, this allows us to maintain legitimacy and gives us time to figure things out, some may lose their coins if they try any transfers right now.

Since you have already taken such action the entire community is left with no choice but to follow you, yet this should have been a commune decision. I understand the need for expediency, but in doing so , you are harming the core values i envisioned for this coin. If you can get it to actually work, that would be great.

Yeah, I'm a meanie. But at least I'm trying to maintain this coin. The Github excuse is a poor one. You can give per-project collaborator access. My update has not added a fork, it it uses one of the existing forks.

But what's really harming the community is you big-mouthing about the coin and planned features, while in essence, all you're doing is waiting up on others to write up code. And trying to inflate the coin's value on exchanges. My feeling on this is that you don't really care about the coin, given it's currently low value, and are more interested in profit than anything. But I may be mistaken...

As for giving choice to the community, I'm actually giving everyone the choice : wait up on you to fix up Noirbits, or switch over. I'm not forcing anyone into anything.

Sync should be fixed with the new link (first post updated), even though UPNP on the Windows client should have no incidence : makefiles for Noirbits-qt had been stripped of the UPNP compile flags, so it didn't have much effect anyways, since all previous versions of Noirbits-qt compiled without UPNP no matter what flag you specified.

Also, make sure you have reset your block database.

You can also addnode 54.229.50.161.

I don't know if it's a good move or not, future will tell. It was at least a move!

I like this coin and I watch its evolution since the beginning but I admit it looked quite on standby lately with difficulty jumping up and down.

I'd love to see some changes but it would be better if it's without hard feelings ;). Coin coups doesn't usually end well...

I wish you good luck and I'll follow it.
Thanks for your work.

I know a coup is not necessarily the best way to proceed, but I felt there was no other way. And I have not taken things as far as I could. I'm leaving the noirbits.com & noirbits.org domains pointed at barwizi's version, despite me owning the domains and having the possibility to take over the website too.

Despite what barwizi wants everyone to believe, I am not imposing this upon the community. If the majority follows up on this, I will then update the website with the new client. Until then, I'm not touching it.

Ok, so I got around to fixing UPNP. Turns out all UPNP code had been stripped out of the client, so compiling with USE_UPNP=- had pretty much no effect, ever since Noirbits was launched. Also turns out this a case for other coins (up to you to find out which ones).

I have updated the OP with the link for the new version, and changes have been pushed to the repository also.

Fixes a small bug on UPNP init for daemon executable. If you do not see "upnp thread started" in your log files, make sure to run Noirbitsd with command line flag -upnp=1.

Did anybody contact the Block Explorer guy and the other pools about the forks + client updates?
The Block Explorer seems stuck at last checkpoint.

Also, it's nice that we've gone off Cryptsy for the time being!

If anyone wants to sell NRB contact me, paying 0.00002 Per NRB. You will need to get the new NRB client from the OP before you can send them to me. You will have to wait for at least 2 confirmations before I send payment.

Well coinmine's following on this, but it seems his pool forked again, I definitely need to figure out why. I have not yet contacted minefast's owner, need to do so. There may be a multipool mining Noirbits, but if there is, I haven't found which one (maybe Middlecoin, otherwise it's a big farm, but whoever it is is not going public on their mining).

Concerning the block explorer, I've been in contact with diatonic, though I do need to confirm with him what he'll do.

As for Cryptsy, I've contacted them exposing the situation in all honesty, I'm waiting on their feedback as to what they'll be doing regarding Noirbits (whether it be dropping Noirbits, following up on the takeover, or staying on the old client). So we'll see what happens next with them.

I've been quite caught up on Noirbits development, notably implementing the refund feature in UI (it's already available via RPC, though not documented in help, needs to be fixed too), so I need to spare some time on PR for NRB...

By the way, the main chain has hit block 31500, meaning min. fees should be reduced to 0.001 NRB from now on. I haven't had time to check whether the UI dialogs reflect that yet, but I'll do so tomorrow... I definitely got a lot of work coming up on Noirbits, I'd like the coin to catch up on Bitcoin regarding features, and clean up the code base, which is going to be the most work.

As for Cryptsy, I've contacted them exposing the situation in all honesty, I'm waiting on their feedback as to what they'll be doing regarding Noirbits (whether it be dropping Noirbits, following up on the takeover, or staying on the old client). So we'll see what happens next with them.

Well, if they understand that the old client is likely to become unsupported in the nearby future, I don't see why they wouldn't transition.. They only need to wait for the forks issue to be resolved before they do anything.

Pushed new version 2.2.1.0.

This is a mandatory update for all users, get it ASAP (before height 33333).

This new version also makes refunds from UI : just right click on a transaction you received, you should have a "Return transaction" option available. The feature is only available for transactions you have received, and whose coins have not been spent yet. It is also available as an RPC call, you can get more details with the following command :

Code:
Noirbitsd help refundtransaction

Hopefully. I need to see what diatonic plans on doing... The block explorer has actually been offline for a few hours now...

This is a minor update that restores QR Code support for Windows binaries.

Sorry, was on the other thread. Just read up.

I'm in with stbgfltc. He's been doing the coding. Most of the rest of us have just been giving advice, so I'm happy to see the support. I don't think this is a big problem. I'm sorry that I'm not contributing more, but I have too many current projects.. hopefully in a month or two, I can support the coin more.

I'm stuck on block 30105 with the new client. Where are there directions on how to setup the config file with the addnode command so that I can hopefully get started again?

Posted in the other thread about the retarget algorithm. I'll repost that here is a few minutes.

The issue might lie within the ComputeMinWork method. I've setup a patched test node, I am unfortunately away for the day, so I'll check out the results tonight. If it works out, I'll push the patch and recompiled binaries ASAP.

Yes, nodes who have the full blockchain don't have the issue. It seems to occur when redownloading it, which means it's probably been here for a while, but went unnoticed until the forks that required to redownload the blockchain.

if you are certain. good luck on your competition, would be nice if this was run on testnet using cpu's for interested people. That way it can be used to test out new ideas and updates with a lot of peers involved before it goes mainstream.

competition? testnet for testing new ideas? huh?

Thanks Kalgecin for your work, looks like the competition is over :P. Clients v.2.2.3.0 should not have synchronization issues anymore, if you get stuck synchronizing, try restarting your client, it does sometimes help, if not, check your debug.log file, there's useful info in there.

I'm off to work, and was away last evening, so compiled Windows binaries will be available soon, but not until I get home.

Client 2.2.2 seem to sync quite well for me.

It shouldn't if you delete the full blockchain. Version 2.2.3.0 is mandatory, otherwise we're headed for some new forks.

What happened is that I introduced a bug in the difficulty algorithm branching based on height, which had the following consequences :

=> Blockchain was mined using old rules from height 0 to 25019.
=> Starting at height 25020, mining was done with new nules.
=> Starting at height 32128, mining resumed with old rules.

Version 2.2.3.0 fixes that by forking to the new rules at height 36000, which should give us a few days to have everyone upgraded.

If you manage to sync past block 25019 after deleting the full blockchain with v. 2.2.2.0, you are most likely running on a fork.

The Block Explorer still hasn't updated.. It is still showing 30000 blocks.
Anybody managed to contact the guy running it?

If not, we should start working toward another (community managed) Block Explorer!

I could write to the guy running CoinChoose so they update, but I'm wondering if we really want that, considering it caused many issues with the previous implementation...
What do you guys think about it?

EDIT: I also wonder if the guy running Koolio Escrow updated...

Well I did contact Diatonic about this last week, he said he was overrun but would try to manage it at some point. He did update, but his blockchain is still wrong...

If there are any volunteers for setting up an alternative block explorer, it'd be great.

Considering CoinChoose and most coin choosers, they actually base their data off the block explorer, explaining why they are not in sync with us. But as you said, it might be better that way until the coin gains more hash power.

So whats the deal with Cryptsy? I see Noirbits is back on there but the latest update on nrb.miners-united.com says that the NRB mined there cannot be sold/traded on Cryptsy. But then it links to this discussion and the title says that it is "back on cryptsy".

So whats the deal? Can I send the NRB from my nrb.miners-united.com account to Cryptsy or is it just going to get stuck? I dont know what is more accurate...this thread or the last update on miners-united.

So whats the deal? Can I send the NRB from my nrb.miners-united.com account to Cryptsy or is it just going to get stuck? I dont know what is more accurate...this thread or the last update on miners-united.

Yes, I confirm Noirbits from the pool do get in on Cryptsy. I posted an updated statement there to lift the confusion...

You need to update to the latest version and delete your blockchain (every file but Wallet.dat and Noirbits.conf) from the AppData\Local\Noirbit folder if you haven't done so already.

Hi,

I'm also stuck out of sync since 2 days (last block on 11/09, says block 51712). I have 3 connections however.
I have the last client (2.2.4?) and already tried to delete the files 2 times and downloaded again but it still doesn't sync.

Any idea?
Thanks.

Yep, wallet is now unsynced... And the price on Cryptsy seems to be dropping in response to it.

Sacrifice a goat then walk 7 laps backwards around a tree while spitting over your shoulder each lap.
Have you lost 0.8 Noirbits? This must be the end, judgement day is here!

Sorry, spent the last couple days investigating the issue, so I haven't been very present...

There was an old bug laying around which has been causing some blocks to be rejected when they shouldn't have. From the looks of it, there is no fork though, which is fortunate. Most clients just stopped syncing past height 51712.

I have pushed an update on Git for those running *nix, you can go ahead and recompile the new client. As soon as I get home, I will publish an updated Windows client, unless some good soul wants to take care of it before I get a chance.

For those transferring coins to Cryptsy, they are not arriving most likely (this is pure speculation, I cannot state this as a fact) because Cryptsy's client is stalled too. Once they update, you should receive your coins.

I can confirm that sent coins did not arrive at my Cryptsy account, waited 1 1/2 day now.

Yes, I tested too, Cryptsy sees the pending deposit, but it never confirms, which leads me to believe their blockchain is stalled too.

I will update the OP with new version announcement once the Windows client is updated too.

Dont see mine as pending, you know if http://nrb.miners-united.com/ on the right blockchain?

From what I've gathered there is only one blockchain (a bit above 55K blocks as of now), but some clients are choking on it, and they stop syncing at height 51712. So there is no real fork going on.

Send me via PM your user name (and transaction ID if you have it), I will investigate on that.

I also have a -120NRB in balance (yes...minus..how is that possible) and 280NRB without confirmations!

My friend did not receive the coins i sent, and he cant send coins to cryptsy also..so the issue is still here for at least 2 persons!  ???

Please look at this.

P.S. - by the way...SBC (Stablecoin) as the same issue! it never arrives to Cryptsy balance!
I have sent another 1NRB and finally it got to balance! Unfortunatly, since i have minus balance i end up with -119 instead of +1 balance!

Hey something weird here to.

I sent some NRB to Cryptsy 7 days ago, Cryptsy is showing the incoming amount but it still has 0 confirmation.
TxID1: fca2fb5b8b8ddda3273083ff7acaed221316f4777bfa412b85ee262c7d927450

I just sent a few NRB to the same Cryptsy address and I got the 6 confirmations within a few minutes, but my first transaction is still stuck to 0 confirm.
TxID2: 955d87392bfc8a3f7b0e41310bb9a14a38afdfcc0f8ce589b37e6a419b461797

Is it a normal behavior or is the first transaction lost somewhere?

Thanks

You should probably contact Cryptsy's support for the missing transactions, there's not much we can do from here...

Hum... apparently first transaction was never seen by the network (do you see it in your wallet ? can you get info about the transaction using the console ?) :

error: {"code":-5,"message":"No information available about transaction"}

While the second one was :

Code:
 sudo Noirbitsd getrawtransaction 955d87392bfc8a3f7b0e41310bb9a14a38afdfcc0f8ce589b37e6a419b461797 1

And Crypty sees the incoming amount since 7 days so this transaction must exist somewhere else than in my wallet (hehe) but it just never gets confirmed.

I tried on a second wallet, I get the same error. I will try again on two other wallets once I'm home.

But I think your transaction never made it in the blockchain. If you compare the output of both transactions, the one that I can see has a field "blockhash" saying in which block the transaction was included, while it isn't there in the output you provided for the first transaction.

Ok, then if the transaction "never made it to the blockchain":
- how can Cryptsy show it in the "Pending Deposits"?
- where are these 700 NRB? Just gone? :/

Is it possible that a transaction doesn't exists but the coins are gone from the wallet?
My knowledge is limited here so if you have any explanation I'm interested anyway :D.

What prevents me from having the same problem again tomorrow?

Thanks again.

Ps: I see a "return transaction" disabled button on the wallet. Is it suppose to be implemented yet?

To put it simply :

* When you create a transaction, it is "broadcast" to the network so that everyone is aware of it (including miners)
* Miners can then decide to include your transaction in the next block or not
* If a transaction is included in a block, then "it's official".

In your case, your transaction was "seen" by Cryptsy, but never included in a block. Why that happened is probably due the stalled clients (they were rejecting new blocks past height 51172, and disconnecting clients that were not stalled as they were being considered rogue for having provided a block that was rejected). So the network got split in half, one half that kept advancing, and the other that was stalled. It seems however that miners were on the half that kept going, and they never received the transaction, so it never put in the blockchain.

There may be a way to recover your coins, but it's quite technical, I can give you a rundown if you need.

And yes, it's possible that the coins are gone while the transaction never confirms. I need to check, I think there's a way to get the unconfirmed transaction cancelled, and if there isn't, maybe I'll write up a way to do it.

I am in same boat.
I would love to know also why cryptsy put my balance with "minus" if its not confirmed.
Now every time i send NRBs to crypty the balance will still be negative till i send coins to cover that negative balance.  ???

I would be great to make the return transaction available, since i have some old NRB stuck (no confirmations) in cryptsy also.

Thx
G

Put like that it makes more sense.

Then,

Well yes, I would need and accept some help if there really is a way to get this fake transaction back.
I'd like to give it a shot at least. Maybe it can also be useful for others (Goaheadz??) and for later in case it would happen again.

My cryptsy account is locked to withdrawals because of this coin.. I have a negative status and the coin isn't listed now! And cryptsy support is not helping me much.. I hope they at least reverse the transactions to cover the negative status!

hold as much as you can, give me six months. i'm privatizing Noirbits and Noirtokens in a few months. Once Noirbank  and the market are up and running, trust you'll wanna have a lot. Supporting Btc will come only after i establish the fact.

Hmm, I transfered a few NRB I had left on Noirbits Union earlier today and it never reached my wallet.
Are we forked or is the pool having trouble?

i too, lost my money... my wallet have 75859 blocks, nrb.miners-united.com showing "Next network block 74906"... dev can you solve this trouble with admin of nrb.miners-united.com? Given that this is the only pool, your coin is dead now.

sorry guys , seems there has been a fork and the takeover guys have not provided a fix for you. If you want, i could look into it and have a fix out in under a day i'll test it for two. i just need to get to my linux box @ work. In order to simplify things, i'll open a new thread once the update is complete. If there are any other issues you want addressed, or features you want added please tell me. As for already mined coins, please contact the pool owners. For the time being i advise a HALT of transfers until it is safe to do so.

sorry, paper work is in order, however i am having issues getting the starting funds for it, but i will have updates soon. The servers are nearly complete and i now have small offices to work from. I  recently commissioned trade software and i asked someone to look into integrating the NRB, BTC , NRT clients into Banking software i have, the difficult part is separating funds between what users save up, trade and/or gamble. Due to immense costs and the risks involved i'm moving slower than planned, but i intend to have a final product that is attractive and viable for users. I am currently on assignment in Southern Africa and can see the potential digital currency has here. In line with that, i have been working on specs for a coin that will stand in for shares. Noirtokens will be what shareholders use as proof of their % stake in the bank.....i am considering making this a closed source system, with users only getting a "dumb" client that allows them to trade and watch their stock.

More updates to come, but for now, let me get this fix done, by the way, if anyone has anything they think would be beneficial in this client, now is the time to speak up.

sorry, paper work is in order, however i am having issues getting the starting funds for it, but i will have updates soon.

Happy to hear this!  ;D

For the new client, some kind of fork detection system (with a warning message showing in case of a fork) would be awesome!
It could be implemented by having the clients sending the latest block number they have to a server a few times a day, and if there is a mismatch between those, the server sends the signal to display the warning.

i'll read on methods of implementation tonight when i am at home, i think that is a good idea, though i'll need to hire a server.

Did you look for a way the implement this? Does it seem easy enough to do?

The windows wallet doesn't work, from the noirbits website, gives an error and dies... runaway exception blah blah...

Got one working, not sure where I got it from, but the transaction is stuck in purgatory, 0 confirms...

Had a corrupted wallet... how do I fix that?

I need to recreate the original wallet... I have the address and locked-password... how do I "make" a wallet with that. (Or the partially corrupted file)

If you have the wallet.dat file and you're on windows, go to Users/YourName/Appdata/Roaming/Noirbits, delete the whole content of the folder and put wallet.dat inside it.
Then just start the wallet software again and it should work correctly.

Stop using Noirbit-Union for now. The pool admin is the post-takeover Noirbits admin and he's been unresponsive for weeks.
When the new version with anti-fork + anti-rogue-clients is out, we'll need a new fresh pool.

Good news, Cryptsy has followed up on the Noirbits update, and has restored Noirbits trading. Meaning all coins mined on miners-united.com can be transferred there and traded there.

All the work is done, just having sync issues, also git pushing is erratic with my current net provider.

The sync issues have something to do with the many changes we've made before. i sent a request to someone who dealt with this before, i hope she replies by day's end. once i get the directions, it wont even be an hour and we'll be in business.

http://nrb.miners-united.com/ are scammers.

I mined there and withdrew 5767 coins from the pool, which never arrived at Cryptsy due to the pool being on a forked chain.

Contacted the pool owner on the 30th of October, haven't even had a single response from him, lost all my coins and he isn't even responding to e-mails.

Looks like the site is down, but it's still listed on the Noirbits page as one of the pools to mine from.

Looks like this coin is dead, I would advise any other miners to NOT waste your time trying to mine this.

CryptoPools can set one up a pool if you guys want one...

I updated to the latest client but still not able to sync.  Only seeing one active connection.  NRB will soon be bought up like all other alts so it's good to kickstart the network and get more nodes on.  Once this happen, it will be profitable to mine again.

Noirbits Mining Pool

http://nrb.cryptoculture.net/index.php

This is a PROP pool with a 3% fee.

Miners need 30 confirms for a block to be valid and paid out.

As per usual cryptopools will be opening a norbits pool at nrb.cryptopools.com we will provide a further update later in the day after weve tested it, PPS and maybe a 1-2% fee

Why is the market cap for Noirbits a mere 89btc?

This coin has a nicely designed website, a block explorer, a faucet, a dice game, it's traded on cryptsy.

This coin...is TOO DAMN CHEAP right now.

Anyone know what the target time between blocks is?

And when does Noirbits recalculate diff?

Already have someone to make a pool and block explorer. Looking for someone with experience in coding to make an exchange.

How you like the pool I setup at nrb.cryptoculture.net?   Working for everyone?

I like the pool and the initiative behind it, if you keep your pool up and running i will give you a reward from the promotional fund. I intend to raise awareness of the coin so there will be a lot of coin thrown around.

I'm liking your pool so far, thanks!
50% network hash increase in like, 5 minutes, hurt us a bit, difficulty doubled at minimum! =(
Hopefully the NBR 'tourists' will reduce a bit here soon. On the flipside of that 'tourist' issue, NRB @ .0001255 on Cryptsy

I like the norbit idea. I'm not a miner, but I will follow it. Will you give me some of them? Just to see how it works. If the project goes in the right way I'd like to make a mini mini invest on it  :)

Could someone update noribits.com to add the new pools... also update the heading to this thread.    People need to know about pools that work.

http://nrb.cryptoculture.net

Also add Ahmed's pool
http://nrb.cryptopools.com

Think about it, someone goes to the main Noirbits page and tries to find a mining pool.  What is the first thing you think comes to their mind when they find only two mining pools and both of them don't work - "this must be a piece of crap coin".

And we know Noirbits is not a "piece of crap coin".

Thank God! This forum has finally shown signs of life!

Noirbit has the potential to be a fantastic coin. I want to get excited about it, I want to invest in it, and I want to tell people about it. But it frankly looks like no one cares about the coin. There are two Noirbit threads, and it is impossible to tell who is in charge. One site says that there will be 50,000,000 Noirbits, and another one says that there will be 21,000,000. As a casual observer, it looks like this coin has been abandoned (I know better). There is no Linux client. The Windows client does not run in Wine on Linux (I tried, it crashes immediately). Just for everyone's info, Quark coin also has no Linux client, but its Windows client runs beautifully under Wine.

I have a few recommendations that I think will help Noirbit to come back to life:
  • Retire this thread and get a new official thread going, one that has accurate information, and active links.
  • Have one official site that has ACCURATE information about the technicals of the coin.
  • Start a Noirbit community on Reddit (I could not find one).
  • The website is absolutely beautiful, but is has dead links, and it seems to be never updated. If the owner of the website doesn't seem to care about Noirbits, why should we?

These are all very easy fixes, and I think that doing these simple things would help Noirbit to rise to at least 3 to 4 times its current market cap.  If no one replies to this message, I am going to assume that Noirbit is dead, and I'll move on to something else. Thank you all for your time!

Ditto

True that. At least we have working pools right now, but you are right that we should dump this thread sine the "takeover admin" just bailed on the coin for no apparent reason about 1-2 months ago, and we can't update the first post of the thread anymore.

For the website, first we need to know who owns it because thinking about modifying it...
EDIT: Seems to be TheRickTM. Last active on the forum: October 2, 2013.

Can some please answer these technical questions about Noirbits?

  • I am running version 2.25 of the Noirbits client. This is the one created by the guy that forked Noirbits. So now that he has apparently bailed on the project, this version will soon become obsolete, correct? Reading through this thread, it appears that Barwizi is planning an updated client that will block members running the older forked clients.
  • The forked version states that there will be 21 million Noirbits created. The original version said 50 million. Which is it? Will Barwizi continue developing based on the 2.25 version, or will he continue developing from his original version?
  • How many Noirbits exist in total right now? The block explorer is broken (stuck at block 30,000). My client says that there are about 87,000 blocks total which comes out to about 1.8 million coins (Coinmarketcap is stuck at about 600,000 total coins> I assume that it is getting its data from the broken block explorer).
  • I hope that Barwizi has not bailed on this project, but if he has, is there someone with the technical expertise to take it over? I do not have the expertise, but I do know how to build websites, so if we do decide to move the coin forward without Barwizi, I could build us a Drupal site in my sleep. Unlike the previous group, I would make sure that someone else has the "keys" to the site besides just me so that the community would never be locked out.
  • If Barwizi has bailed, I think that we as a community need to start looking ahead to how we will make this coin continue to move forward. We need to come up with universal standards for Noirbits, and we need to have one definitive source of information about the coin. Right now, the credibility of the coin is in tatters because no one cares enough about it to make it what it has the potential to become.
  • Just let me know what you as a community need. I could have us up a Drupal site in days. Drupal has everything that a community would need built-in, including our own forum. I just hate sitting around waiting for someone who might never show up. I am going to also post this in the other Noirbit thread.

I think that it is time for us in the cryptocoin community to demand good leadership. Leaders don't hide. They don't disappear when things get tough, and when the market crashes. They lead. I don't know how to manage Noirbits from a technical standpoint. But I do know how to inspire confidence, I do know how to lead people, and I do know how to build and maintain a website. I hope that this message will inspires others to lead the Noirbits community as well.

Hi RickTM!
The site looks fantastic!!! It is what initially attracted me to Noirbits. I certainly could not do any better. The dead links were the only issue I saw. It will be nice having all of the updated pool links on the site.

Thanks a lot! Barwizi was working towards including fork-detection and anti-rogue-clients in the following versions.
We would need confirmation from him that's it's indeed in the works before posting it on the website, but that would make good publicity for the coin!

Nice!! ;D  We need a working block explorer. We are delisted from Coinmarketcap until we have a working one. I told the Coinmarket cap guy that the Noirbit info was inaccurate (due to the current broken block explorer). I wasn't expecting him to delist it. He'll put it back up as soon as the block explorer works.

Tips appreciated at DtFbXr8ykWwbnBxdNKpXhqCtYqyCT6fFis

I've had to take some block explorers offline due to resource issues. I could help set up a block explorer on your own host if you have linux hosting (preferably debian) somewhere.

I'm so proud to be a new member of the Noirbits community! ;D We're finally starting to get our sh** together.

I think that this is a quick summary of everything that has happened recently:
  • Diatonic has fixed the block explorer @http://nrb.webboise.com/chain/Noirbits (http://nrb.webboise.com/chain/Noirbits). Please feel free to tip him at DtFbXr8ykWwbnBxdNKpXhqCtYqyCT6fFis
  • A message has been sent to Gliss of Coinmarketcap to relist us Noirbits are relisted: http://coinmarketcap.com/ (http://coinmarketcap.com/).
  • Educatedwarrior has made contact with our fearless leader Barwizi. All is well, and he is hard at work improving Noirbits (improved version to be released soon).
  • TheRickTM has been contacted. He is working on updating http://www.noirbits.com/
     (http://www.noirbits.com/)
  • We have at least 3 fully functioning pools: http://nrb.cryptoculture.net (http://nrb.cryptoculture.net), http://nrb.cryptopools.com (http://nrb.cryptopools.com), and http://noir.minepool.net/ (http://noir.minepool.net/). We also have the original Noirbits site as a powerful resource: http://com-http.us/ccdir/nrb/ (http://com-http.us/ccdir/nrb/).

Now, I'm going to shut my big mouth. I'm going on radio silence until Noirbits hit 0.0001 BTC on Cryptsy (https://www.cryptsy.com/markets/view/54). I'll see you all then!

Great to see the price of a Noirbit is increasing, as it should because this coin deserves it!

I don't think the price will stay at this level; it will increase to above 0.0001 BTC as it was earlier!

I also think the idea is madness, if it is set to, the price will probably be close to the bitcoin, but that's still a long away. the purchases are significantly higher than what is harvested, which is very good and indicates a correction

noirbits rise and rise the day, and it becomes clear bought more than sold and bought more than the mines here are. also she could clearly detached from the deep past. one probably knows someone more than others. if a news is it should probably go up to the old and one probably about it.

which thread is actually currently?

Re: What happens to our NRBs when the new coin is launched?
Reply #15 – January 27, 2014, 08:48:50 PM
I have compiled a list of the officers in charge of this project. most of my free time has been used working on designing the shares and a new currency. I will import all balances from NRB, I now have the data to back my earlier claims that scrypt coins are done for and the current implementation of hashcash algo is obsolete.

Like any currency ours needs to respond to changes on a global scale, in a manner not easily manipulated by a single entity with the $$$ or politics. My new proposed design further explores the realistic viability of fullscale deployment of a digital currency. To that effect, i am now overwhelmed by some of the work and as a result i need a coder or two to assist with the workload. For those who have seen my work on other forums, i will be implementing a Software license along with this new currency to protect actual investors.

The new skype chat group will be opened midweek for face to face communication. A for the financial and documentation side........WE ARE SET!!!!

please refer to the noibitstalk site for all updates. this forum is flooded and i'd prefer the clean, quiet and focused environment we have there. while you can continue to discuss issues here, please do not expect a response from me, all NRB, NRS,  NoirBank and NoirEx is better off discussed on our own forum.

to those who feel i have been slow, you are right, i am taking my time, but it is the only way i can offer quality service.

Lol, you are all pretty pissed off by now... sorry

Check my git for my progress, Noirshares is complete, save for the genesis and a few small additions i want to incorporate. And the Exchange...well, give us two more weeks to find a suitable user interface. Registration will be limited to 100 users since i will be handling the accounting myself. If you have any experience in coding ruby, c++, coffee, perl and haskell  and want to be a part of the movement please pm me. in the mean time please be patient and if you have the resources...i'd suggest stocking up on NRB, it will be the first and only chain traded for USD for a while in order to promote it.

well it is bought every day more than is hashed. it is a matter of time until the price breaks out, yet no one dares. the question is what happens when you start the NRS? up to 1000%, or down to 50%. I hold the winning chances for higher, but that's my opinion. and the diff will then have a stable value, not highly variable

other opinions?

Ok, for the time being keep it under advisement. NRS chain is already being tested at minimum difficulty, those who are interested should say so , by weekend. if the beta is successful, we'll go all ahead, if it is not, we'll re-do from genesis.

I am still structuring the tiers of investment, i'll release all the details in advance when i put the Start post and nodes for NRS.

I'll also be updating NRB to suit the new path we are taking.

start coming soon :) nice nice, update NRB too

NIG needs a CMO stat.

The CMO's duties are as follows:-

Publicity and Marketing strategy and implementations
Management of NIG profiles on Social media, keeping it updated with the latest news.
Co-ordination with Web team from Development on advertising Campaigns
Management and posting of new and existing threads for the NIG
Gauging and relaying market interests to the COO for research and possible adoption

As the everyday figure of the company you become responsible for our image, from the very basics such as Icons and catch phrases  to having interviews and attending conferences. In some cases you may be asked to write small speeches for the CEO or the Chairman for events in the year. You are responsible for the company's event calender albeit most of the events are online. Among your responsibility is the production of pamphlets and infograms that make it easier for the average individual to understand what it is the company does, running FAQ threads and answering non technical questions.

As we are a start up, the CMO is the only employee for this department until such time that the board of advisers deems necessary to engage more employees who will work under you in that department.

The terms of employment are subject to review every month, at the beginning of each month you are tasked with weekly and monthly targets. At the end of the month your work is reviewed and your contract terminated or extended as necessary. This system will be in place until a solid worker is found and at such time the review periods will become less frequent.

One of the first responsibilities  you will have is draft the Public release notes for NoirShares and the Noir Fund explaining the mechanics behind it, the goals and milestones.

Application is via public post where you list your credentials and links to your previous works, they need not be personal details, if you have done such a job or similar then links to that will suffice, links to your previous activities on other forums is a definite plus.

The price of a NoirBit has decreased a lot too, same with many other altcoins. Does this is a great time to bring this coin to a next level?

Time to start a marketing campaign!

Keep hope, keep faith.
