Just to update you guys: we're seeking a refund on this. We've been working on this for a few days actually.

They *still* haven't sent a tracking number for R2 which is the 64th paid miner rig IIRC, and the earlier of our two co-op HashFast Baby Jet orders.

- When its finally sent out by HF: Refunds for R2 will be in USD as R2 was paid by the original buyer we bought it from HF via a USD wire transfer.

- For R2B: we're fighting for a full BTC refund, as I believe we paid BTC for that, since it came later for this Batch 1 upgrade. I can't go into details too much, but I am fighting tooth and nail to get y'all this BTC full refund if its at all possible.

Since pricing for the products are in USD, the Group Buy Shares can be priced in USD to protect buyers from being ripped off by BTC appreciating rapidly or the GBC from losing out if the value of BTC crashes during the GB.

Excerpt from my proposal letter to John K. (before Round 1 GB):

"Competition is good! I also don't intend to make much $ from other people's shares, I'm more concerned about trying to make ROI from my shares of the miner. Since I'm covering 15-30% of the costs up front, it allows me to offer a lower rate then if I had no stake invested. I've come to the conclusion that this is probably the future of mining. I think this is the bare min. I can offer ATM w/out having to pay for other people's shares. I also offer a realistic resale plan to recoup investment costs as an escape route, after most of the projected annual ROI has been returned after 6-7 months while it should still have high resale value, but well before it becomes a paperweight after 13 months or so.

Proposition: You hold in escrow the funds and ordering details for a Group Buy Purchase for one (1) HashFast or CoinTerra ASIC miner (majority decision, I vote last, cast any deciding vote) to be advertised on this site. You chime in on the proposed thread that you're holding 9.3 of my BTC to begin & AM shares worth approx. another ~5 BTC as collateral throughout. When sufficient Group Buy shares are made you purchase the ASIC miner for us to be sent to a reliable hosting facility such as DreamHost, whom I've already contacted for details on hosting fees.

Collateral/Escrow: You immediately hold 9.3BTC meant for the Group Buy - and admin rights for my 1 AM1 share & 14 AM100 shares with associated dividends worth approx. $500 at Havelock Investments as collateral until the miner is ordered to be delivered to a trusted 3rd party hosting location OR until all miner payouts are paid out - before the GB even begins. I'm also willing to share or give admin rights to the HF or CT miner account to you or a trusted designate, and have my AM shares in escrow while miner deposits are made over 6-7 months.

Details: My current share of 9.3 BTC represents 60GH/s or 15% of Purchase Price/Hash Rate of the projected device. If CoinTerra offers a better deal in the same timeframe, the 15/85% split will still remain in effect but at a (hopefully) higher GH/s rate for everyone (Owners vote). I'm selling 34 shares worth 10GH/s each @ 1.55 BTC each with 2.75% Hosting fees.

This represents 85% of the device's Hash Rate. This is the best pre-order deal anywhere online, bar none. I call it the Noob bonus. I reserve the right to pull the Group Buy if there's not enough interest, fully refunding everyone who bought shares through your escrow service. I also reserve the right to purchase an additional 6 shares @ 1.55BTC ea. to quickly finish off the Group Buy, if necessary.

Deposit payout: Miner ships domestically to Hosting facility October 20-30. Payout every 2 weeks - 2.75% Hosting fees for 6-7 months (Group Decides how long, majority weighted vote rules)

Equipment sale: TGB projections show that this will be a paperweight in a year. If conditions warrant: I intend to sell this at the 6-7 month mark when more than 90% of annual ROI is already achieved and disburse the proceeds to GB owners before it becomes useless as far as Hash Rate. Owners vote to decide on exact month. I have a good track record for getting good returns on used electronics before they lose too much value. We can replace it with a more powerful Group Purchased ASIC unit if there's interest.

Fees: Since it's complicated, I will pay all expected escrow fees of 2.2% up front to get this started. The total sale should be about 60.6BTC raised. If the Group Buy fails due to lack of interest (2-3 wks?), you keep half of the paid fee and return to me half of the agreed upon fee.

Risk: I could be a dick about mining payouts. Not sure how to handle that. Would you escrow payouts for that somehow for a fee? Perhaps hold my AM shares as collateral for that, like I mentioned?  I'd be willing to let you hold the AM shares as collateral for 6-7 months to make sure people get paid or at least partially reimbursed. Otherwise they'll have to trust me from previous behavior. That & I strongly believe in Karma so I would NEVER hurt GB owners. We can negotiate a fee for miner payouts later, if you're interested."

That's all the relevant details. I'm still deciding on the colocation facility but I've found pricing and locations I'm comfortable with.

One more detail: We all vote on what gets ordered but I also reserve the right to switch miner purchase to a different mfg. if a dark horse (KnC/BF?) offers an even better deal with in-stock guarantees. If we need to move quickly (due to very limited quantities for example as a result of some sort of unknown mfg. promotion) and don't have time for democracy, I'll make the decision that I think is best for the group and ask John to order the miner for us.

John K. will be handling any refund requests directly, auditing miner payouts, as well as holding my AM shares as collateral for 2-3 months worth of miner payouts. Please PM if you have any questions.

Great point about the exchange rate! Thanks for pointing that out. I truly believe that us miners are all in this together which is why I'm offering this. I'm basing this on 1 BTC being valued at $100 USD (Blockchain price at time of confirmation from John K. that all funds are confirmed received and we're ready to order). If there's a +20% variance where BTC is worth 20% more and accomplishes the same buying power of about $6,060 [60.6BTC @ $100 ea.], I will refund you 20% (or more) if the Blockchain BTC value at the time of ordering is $120 USD (or more) per BTC. I truly meant what I said about not trying to profit directly from other people's share in a High End ASIC miner.

If the value of BTC is somehow 20% less, or $80 USD Coinbase price, then we'll need to revisit the Group Buy details. Either additional fees will need to be ponied up by everyone, or the GB will be abandoned and all share purchases refunded by John K.

Anything in between that: I'll pay out of pocket if we're a little short to get this started or I'll hold a small war chest to be used to get better hosting deals by signing a 6 or 7 month contract vs. the 1 month hosting fee.

- Another thing I should have mentioned earlier: I was also planning on mining on Elgius for 0% mining fees so our shares are larger.

Yes, we're aiming for a Baby Jet. If there's a serious delay, we'll ask for a refund and aim for Cointerra who should be shipping in Nov/Dec. Ideally, we need to start mining in November, no matter who supplies the High End miner. KnC/Bitfury - at much lower prices - are options.

- I'm leaning towards BitFunder for miner payouts but will go with BTCT if the majority of buyers prefer this
- Nothing is to stop someone from reserving a bunch of shares & being a jerk. They could only slow us down. If I see someone that is requesting 5 or more shares, I'm going to have to request payment to John within 24 hours, as a hedge against this type of behavior. If you're buying 4 shares or less, the usual 48 hours to pay for your shares apply.
- Dave: I thought about offering PP to provide value & ease of payment. Yup, I hear ya. Had to deal with the same delays transferring PP funds to checking. I used BTCQuick with 7.5% fees until my Coinbase account passed the 30 day mark. BTCQuick *is* quick but a bit pricey as far as fees.

Now, I can buy BTC instantly w/ a 1% fee at Coinbase. Just some suggestions if you're looking for ways to buy BTC without getting scammed.

ROI is always a concern on pre-orders. I think 250M *might* be a tad high for the start of November. You're talking about the entire network growing 500% in just 2 months, when it took 4 years to get to this point. We're seeing exponential growth but we're not seeing *that* level of exponential growth quite yet. You're right though, this could be an entirely different story in late Oct. when a lot of machines have come online.

With all the hardware on order this incredible growth rate you predict is possible. Not likely, but possible. It *will* go up, we know it's going to be a lot, but no one knows how much. Not sure if you're aware, but HashFast is promising 2-4X your HashRate (in chips) if you fail to meet ROI within 3 months:

Did you notice I put in the currency volatility protection you mentioned? That was a great point & a great idea that serves miners well. All GBs should use the same volatility protection model that you & I came up with.  ;D

yep. BTC seems surprisingly stable recently but still nothing to rely on,  so some provisions are necessary.

I've gotten a couple of PMs from people who have a hard time buying BTC for geographical reasons but are interested in joining. I'm going to set aside funds to convert PP to BTC to send to John K. if anyone buys shares on ebay. Group Buy owners will have to pay 6% more on ebay because of their ebay/PP fees.

I normally don't buy BTC for others (esp. via PP!) but since this is a group buy with payouts scheduled for November, they won't see a Satoshi of mining payouts if they try a fraudulent chargeback attempt.  ;D

1. I live on Kauai. I've lived here for about more then half my life.
2. I have *some* experience in mining. I've only done CPU/GPU mining, and mining on a Jalapeno (which I quickly resold for about 350+% profit. I'm relatively new to BTC mining having only become seriously interested in it in June and doing my first pre-order with BFL  >:( in early July. I am *not* new to IT as my first PC I used was a TRS-80, and I learned how to program in BASIC on a Commodore 64, one of the first mass produced home PCs. I've also designed/installed/supervised the installation of copper/fiber computer networks for 3 different world class R&D labs on 2 different islands that are all currently in use. I included pics of the first R&D Lab (my first big network install) in the first post.
3. If you decide to sell your share, please PM myself & John K. [ user: John (John K.) ] a short note explaining that your transferring your share to Person X using BTC Talk username XXXX.
4. It will be housed in a world class colocation facility. I'm in talks with several. I won't reveal publicly yet who's "winning." It will be one of them that has Tier III or IV near 100% network uptime/availability
5. I have and currently do tons of remote access work to corp. resources on other islands and the mainland. Remote Admin access & remote troubleshooting of servers/workstations is something I've done for over 10 years. 6. I was planning on Elgius for the lowest fees & highest payouts for everyone. I can open this up to group voting if there's enough interest (this really isn't a dictatorship, I truly believe we're all in this together)
7. Refunds are not usually allowed on these types of Group Buys because we've all put $/BTC on the line to get this done. I've already put up a bit of $ and collateral to get this done. The mfg. plan from HF is to give us 2-4X our purchased HashRate in order make sure we make ROI within 90 days (and everything after is nearly pure profit!). No mfg. currently has such an impressive miner protection plan in place & it's meant to be an outlet for ASIC pre-order delay anxiety. The backup plan is Cointerra which should be shipping in November/December. If this doesn't sound like something you're interested in, then please take a pass so that someone else can get a chance.

As far as those 4 shares & since we already have you down for 2 pending: whoever can send a PM to myself & John, as well as BTC to the escrow wallet first gets those 4 shares. It could be me! I still gotta go do some checking on funds flying around (amazing that BTC is within a half hour but PP takes 3-4 biz days to get it to your bank (yet someone they can yank funds from your accts. instantly). I've done over $3K in sales at ebay this last month so there's digital stuff slowly coming & quickly going.

Remember: the extra funds we receive are meant to prepay our approx. 1/2 year colocation contract (with option to extend) to hopefully get a better deal that helps reduce operating costs & maximize our profits. This may explain why you might see the escrow wallet account larger than 60.6BTC (as the value of it has whipsawed around as we've all done our various transactions. Any extra funds left over I intend to put in a separate public wallet address meant for hosting costs. We split it in a pre-arranged 60/40 split in a gentleman's contract that was notarized (loser would have gotten nothing from ABC/Disney!). The other finalist had just survived a recent car crash & wasn't working ATM so I'm glad I was able to help him out and I wonder how he's doing today. The game I won, beating each and every challenger, was called ABC Sports College Football on PC FWIW. I even had a shot at another $10K & trip to the SB if they hadn't patched the NFL Pro version of the game to nerf my play  (I talked to the producer (Doug Watson IIRC?) & they had to nerf the game badly because my play set, while completely legal in football, was too dominant.)

Anyway, back to GBs: One gentleman has already contacted me with intentions to have me co-ordinate a GB in Sept. & has already promised 20 shares out of 40, for a GB that I'm not even seriously considering doing quite yet!

I would only do this 2nd GB in the near term, if I'm confident it wouldn't take any focus away from giving the proper attn. to this particular co-op's ASIC miner we've all worked so hard for. We've all worked hard in our various jobs and investments to get this co-op going so we can start mining at the multi-hundred GH or higher speeds that we need to compete for our share of coins mined.

This really is the future, I don't have a Robo housemaid (yet) like in the Jetsons but I've got several now. In the future, futurists believe that we'll all have herds and fleets of micro-, mini-, and even large robots doing our work *for* us, benefitting *us*. I currently have a 3D printer (a single purpose robot for all intents), robo massage chair, a CNC mill, CNC lathe, wireless router (which is essentially an Application Specific invisible robot that quickly routs packets for you), a laptop, tablets, & a smartphone that can access the world's knowledge (but often takes pics of cats), not to mention 20% of this robotic miner that we just placed an order for together (because miner co-ops also seem to be the future). I know we're all impatient for the wonders of the future but...we're already there!

Folks like us, we're just ahead of the curve, is all.

No word from John yet, unfortunately, but our case is still Open. I hope he's ok, as I don't think he's been on the forum all day.

Now, I've been protecting the modicum of privacy a couple of members have shown, and I will continue to for the foreseeable future unless these members tell me otherwise. Please give me a little time, I put some things off to try to help facilitate this when HF started running out of stock, simultaneously & frantically trying to get quotes on DCs around the country both near & far from HF & harassing HF staff multiple times & multiple people for the DD info I really needed for colo hosting quotes so I don't lose my shirt on this GB (I'm cutting it close, but I'm fine with that). I was the guy that finally got them to admit via cypherdoc that the durn thing was a mid tower even if my other questions that would be useful for the co-op to know didn't get answered so far.

Also, I put my okole & reputation on the line (again) to try to be a potential GB Escrow Coordinator for this forum, and only this forum to help facilitate GBs & to help make the whole GB process less stressful, and responsive, for coordinators and buyers. So, I was gonna put a lil more meat on dem bones & see if I can reel in someone basically just like me: new here but with a history of creating win/win deals for buyers/sellers, and are willing to put their real life ID, their rep & some BTC and/or BTC-related shares on the line to hold them hostage to good behavior.

I didn't mention it earlier but I believe that will be the lowest price of electricity among the co-op miners. From discussions I've had with him, he appears willing and able to assist in hosting a HashFast Baby Jet and that electricity rate is exceedingly inexpensive. He's studying the CCNA curriculum shortly. We should be able to work together as a team, with jungle_dave (a former network engineer) joining us and agreeing to be my emergency 2nd/3rd if you folks haven't heard from me in an emergency & the deposits are just sitting there. jungle_dave and BeepBeep2 both have my IRL workplace.

The 2nd largest shareholder has declined my invitation to be a co-admin, so I extended to invitation to be a co-admin/emergency backup to jungle_dave who has the right exp./background for remote administration/troubleshooting.

BeepBeep2 has been vetted by myself personally, I even invited him to a summer or year round internship if he's ever in Hawaii. He's already mining (with GPUs) and actually has more experience then me in bitcoin and cryptocurrency mining.

However: we should all have concerns in trusting someone that we all just met online. I've vetted your ID and feel comfortable about your address so there's no need to ask for your ID. For anyone that is willing to host our co-op's miner, they will need to answer a question for the group:

* Since they own it too, with sufficient prior notice would you be willing to have one of the co-op members be willing to stop by for a quick visit if they were visiting or living in the area?

If you're willing to say yes to this, I'm willing to put this up for a vote for the good of the Co-op. If another member could arrange a safe meet up in a highly visible place, that could help with trust issues all around. If you were willing you could allow them access (pref. with other adults around for safety) at least once that could go a long way in alleviating distrust.


Question to the Co-op:
Does anyone else live in the Northeast part of the country? Hope, you don't mind me at least giving the rest of the co-op your geographic region. firsttimeuser is a few states away, so I don't think that's feasible for any kind of IRL meet up.

In return for hosting this, to help make it worth his while, his hosting/management fee of 2.75% will be waived completely, and in fact he will receive a 1.5% Hosting Payout to help pay for electricity costs and time incurred dealing locally with our miner (and perhaps other miners). If this works out well, this could be a nice little sideline hosting service for our man BeepBeep2.

For now though, I'll await your response to my proposal as we still have another 2 months to change colo sites. If BeepBeep2 agrees, I will open up the hosting proposal for weighted voting, with me voting last and heeding to the will of the popular weighted vote.

Hi guys.

I checked the latest bill again and it seems that we got a nice raise in electricity cost to a whopping 6.86 cents / kWh. My grandfather, on the other side of town, still pays 5.4 cents / kWh, but he does not have internet access. If the 6.86 cents / kWh is still the lowest rate or close to it, I'll be open to hosting the machine. Keep in mind this is a residence, not a commercial building, and I am a freshman in college, most definitely not the oldest guy around. As lame as it sounds, my parents own this house.

I should be able to set up the miner to be web-accessible for monitoring however that would probably leave me vulnerable to DDOS or other attacks...we will have to see what works out. Time Warner likes to switch DCHP IPs around every other lease renew so it is hard for me to be able to even access my own network, some of the time.

If someone or two would like to come down and meet me that's fine, I'd be happy to set up an appointment for that purpose.

We are actually working with money making machines, that is even if the diff rate is going up x10 its something we have to think about.

I ran a 3400 watt gpu farm for about a year and now I am running a 100-130  usb stick asic miner farm about 600 watts rather then 3400 watts.. Full respect on your current setup and your vision. As I said before you have some real life experience that is an asset to our group. You also understand that the equipment we will use today will probably change in the next 3 to 6 months and the power/complexity of that equipment will demand upgrades.
My only concern is that we might need a facility that can grow with that demand and provide the extra power and network resources as we need, to grow exponentially and not result in your divorce :) .
That said you are in a cheap power zone and have a good existing setup. 65$ a month for 400 gh/s is not a bad price for power. It sounds to me like someone is always home so that is a plus too.

 there has to be some one with a better power price then I have.

 also if I see the gear on the site correctly each unit is like a mid size  pc tower.    since the usa is going into the fall season most any home can run 1 or 2 of these and cooling is not a problem.  Oct to april the north east and or any northern state and the heat the unit give off is free heating for a home.    But to be frank my wife is tired enough of me running all the gpus . Now sold off letting me buy the AM usb sticks and take a flyer or two with a group buy like this.

jungle_dave is correct we do need to keep in mind security esp. as awareness of BTC continues to rise. HashFast may actually have been on to something though, with a mid tower form factor, this probably *won't* look much too different from your usual water cooled gaming PC (not that that makes it immune to being overlooked for theft).

If there is such a thing as a perfect home host location it would be:

- Someone vetted and trusted implicitly
- IT background
- Some available to go press the darn reset button nearly 24/7
- Pre-installed security system
- Low crime area
- Big dogs
- No smoking
- A/C
- of course, ultra cheap electricity
- (Bonus!) Works as a cop, armed security guard, or MMA instructor (ehehe)

Washington (Hydro), Louisiana (Oil refineries), and West Virginia (Coal) have *the* lowest electricity rates in the US. Perhaps we should focus on these 3 states or ones near their ranking if we intend to scale up profitably as a co-op.

Since we're discussing options: Anyone know of any reputable DataCenters in these Washington or WV? I think Louisiana suffers from too many storms to be a viable host site. We can work together on this to get quotes; teaming up & splitting up states by region could yield us a gem of a quote.

We're looking for: Colocation Mid Tower Hosting (which not all DCs take; which is why I warned HashFast designers about that as soon as I heard back from cypherdoc), usual server services, 24/7 steady bandwidth but does not require huge bandwidth needs (no torrenting; no video/music streaming) so lower levels of the data plans are acceptable. We obviously can't afford something like Tier III/IV-type service guarantees, but we still need something that's up more then 99%+.

We do have another miner I'm assisting that could help with colo costs if we can get a volume discount.

I'm awaiting payment on the last 2 shares from a user (I think he sent it to the escrow wallet, I need to check) but after that: I say we open it up to a vote. Our first. We can vote for professional colocation hosting or home hosting by a co-op member.

I have hosting rack in Aarhus Denmark - with dedicated 100Mbit line from the largest fibre operator in Denmark. Negative is VAT to be paid for EU.
I also have a Dubai hosting rack with 1Gbit non-dedicated. Positive - no taxes on income :) - but hosting slightly expensive and 5% import duty max. No VAT...
Last option - UAE home hosting - 50Mbit/10Mbit non-dedicated - US ping 140-200ms dependent on location. But I work from home - so almost 24 hour watch.

I'm an electronics engineer - well educated in PC hardware since 1983 - with PRO monitoring setup (Paessler PRTG setup). Once again, I will offer to host as well, paying $0.0686 / kWh which is around $25 a month at 500w.
Someone will be home at all times (85% of the time), but I will be unable.

That was right about the time they were adjusting their currency rates. They're catching up with manual transactions and were asking for the rest earlier today! My email to them a few hours ago:

you should see some rips I did on this forum  and more then once I was completely wrong.  back to the gear.

 I have at least 7 power supplies no lower in use.   soo  we do not need to buy one. to build the machine.  in fact I will send 2 to the hoster (l like backup plans) I have 1000 watt 850 watt 650 watt all 550 watt and 450 watt .  I will make a list to pick from. And since they are idle  I would sell 2 for 1.  it is easier then listing them on ebay.   I also have at least 8 sticks of samsung 4gb ram if needed. it is the very popular vlp green ram low volts 1.35 not 1.5.

Since they opened more to be sold, I am thinking about doing a GB myself, to go along with any units I might host.

I am considering offering my services as well.  I want the limit of 1/n as n approaches infinity in profit.  I am a math grad student and I would love to just be close to this technology and maintain it with utmost professionalism.... live in a low kWh area in the sates and what not.  This is a lot of work to do my part for securing the network while I study this semester, but I don't have any other plans and would be honored to serve.

Thank you for your comments and for asking to join the co-op I call: "The little co-op that could." IMHO it takes an enlightened (or at least semi-enlightened) man to publicly admit that he's wrong.

About setting up a new one: you and possibly Sam may want to think about teaming up with bobsag3. I think it's more important to succeed together and let everyone take the credit then to fail separately to acquire a Batch1 pre-order on a HashFast (if that's the sort of blinking hardware you find to be sexy) before they run out. But hey, everyone has free will which I think is a wonderful thing.

Another thing to consider: CoinTerra is *supposed* release a 1TH miner to allay the grumblings of the filthy masses.  :D In which case: BeepBeep2 would be the one you'd want to join up with. As a GBEC I don't find their MPP as attractive as HashFast's but at least there is one, which is a step forward for the ASIC mfg. community.

- They're...uh pros with an IT background
- Least chance of theft or unintentional damage
- Automatically insured
- They cost more
- They care but they don't really care (not their BTC)
- Unless you pay an arm/leg, they have network outages in normal situations and power outages in long emergencies just like everyone else. Don't believe that BS about 99.99+% uptime
- May need to scramble to find a place that does colocation of mid towers which are awkward fits in most server rooms. You have to use the "platform" method which many DCs don't have set up for this purpose; (warned them about it...grumble...grumble)

AMATEUR
- They're amateurs
- Then again it's like hosting: a mid tower in your house because it's looks like & smells like a mid tower PC (Aren't you glad we didn't step in it?). Towers are already in many people's houses.
- They cost less but what do you care? Your hosting/management fee's a flat 2.75%
- Fastest response IMO (esp. w/ backup hardware. Thx Phillip!) because it's *their* BTC that's being lost out on
- Need to be vetted & have security/insurance in place for losses/theft
- There's a trust factor: How do we know they won't run off with the miner? (By vetting obviously and public meet ups, if possible)

Yeah but even then Im not sure how long that would power a wall of miners

your are correct that ups with battery would only work for about 4-6 hours for one unit.  So in a long blackout (think hurricane sandy)  we could be down a week.

 I lost power in NJ on and off a total of 3 out of 17 days after sandy and I was lucky compared to many.  One thing I always had was the net. But next big storm who knows.  with amateur hosting two or  3rigs could be moved to a backup (hoster) in a big storm power outage.

And I would be hosting from an area in Missouri with about 12 kWh.  Micro-storms are very frequent there but power is rarely lost.  And if it is, never more than a few hours.  With amateur hosting i could help complete a network by being "centrally located" in the US.  We would have to see where everyone else is located to start building a network.  I'll put my nikes on to go rescue a rig without power somewhere.

My current plan Is I have 2 separate places of residence with separate power, but a connected network with 2 ISP's. Then if space/demand requires I can get a place down town with more space and cooling. All else fails, I have a 3rd location in STL that I can use to host up to ~150A worth and have everything back up and running in under 4 hours. [All assuming I can drive]

I know bobsag3 is very serious about hosting.  As I am just as serious about making sure nothing happens to his location / backup locations.  He would probably need spare parts on need by need basis.  Who knows what the future holds for our miners but they are the communities babies and will be well taken care of.  I know for a fact I will take pictures and start a thread from the Missouri host location so everybody can drool over their investment.  

Plus I can play a good host if anyone would like to personally visit the miners.  My location used to facilitate a hospital in the 1920's.  It is quite large with plenty of spare rooms for long distance travelers.

Sheriff is personal friends and lives across the street from my family.  I have coded open source with MisterHouse home automation for a small business in Missouri in the past as well as GV licensed API so the IP cameras will always be rolling.

Thanks again for the offer of hosting from those outside the co-op, but we're limiting the hosting for this Group Buy to co-op members as they're part owners of the device & should have a first shot. We have serious offers of very inexpensive hosting with quite a bit of built-in security from within the co-op from firsttimeuser, BeepBeep2, and even kaz911 in the Netherlands with dual network connections if we agreed to the shipping delay to Europe to gain network redundancy.

No worries though, there's plenty of interest from outside the co-op for hosting opportunities for those with ultra cheap electricity/bandwidth. Averaging over 100 hits a day on ebay for miner hosting services.

BTW, the latest news is that HashFast is just about guaranteed to be giving us chips! This was straight from cypherdoc ahead of John's announcement. We're gonna need homes for these chips. we need some plan for those 4x extra chips that HF promissed as a miner protection
plan. These chips have to be sent somewhere for assembly and hosting.

In case you don't know: HF is promising extra chips (up to 4 times the amount you get in your miners)
to the customers who can't make ROI on the original purchase.

BTW, I worked out a purchase agreement with philipma1957 for a hefty UPS & Battery backup for our Baby Jet. He gave me a really good deal on over $1K ofI expect to pay him next month before he and firsttimeuser meet up so that he can hand it off when they meet.

 As part of the deal I will toss in fans as needed since I have more then 2 dozen spares in just about any possible size. I forgot to mention that i have a lot of fans. since the chip will pull a lot of power i believe it needs a water cooling solution.  that i do not have but  to have extra fans beyond the water cooling should help manage heat.  this will be really true if we get a second chip in the extra hash plan.

 the fan selection is really large and will be for free as a bonus. to the eaton ups with extend battery pack

Not too many co-ops are lucky to have the level of redundancy in equipment, host sites, and personnel like we do (then again: since I work in IT and Network design...spares and backups rule).

BTW, since we've built up such a neat little co-op, did you guys want to expand it by having a 2nd miner hosted in or out of the co-op, such as with bobsag3 or BeepBeep2? The level of redundancy as far as hosting options, is such that we can easily expand to 2 or more miners.  Let me know if any of you guys are interested in any of the offerings out there. This time, we'd run the escrow through BTCrow and it would be optional instead of mandatory for anyone that reserves shares. One of you co-op members could even take the lead if you wanted & just use this thread.

I'm willing to reserve/buy a few shares to start one off if there's enough interest, and we can run it as the same ultra bare bones rules as the first 1 with the lowest pricing and hosting pricing available if you guys want. Related to hosting: As his online marketing/management agent (Full Disclaimer) for his hosting services, I've seen the inside of the building bobsag3 photographed, and it seems to be well suited for expanded miner hosting with 400A available and 120A backup generator all right next to Google Fiber. Also I'd like to open up Cointerra II as an option: with Bitmine, unless it's hosted in Europe (not out of realm of possibility since kaz911 has hosting there) there's going to be a shipping delay having a unit shipped from Europe. Looking at Giorgio's latest news, if we were to purchase today, it would ship mid to late December.

We'll vote between the two when we get to 20 soft reservations. So the pre-order decision becomes:

BTW, these 2 manufacturers have some sort of late delivery buyer protection, although the protection isn't as comprehensive as HashFast. If it's really late, we can all ask for a refund if the majority want this. I can't guarantee delivery but I will do my best to get you a refund at a small restocking fee of 1.5% if you need access to the funds in an emergency. If, for example, you somehow own half or more of the miner, I may need a little time to pay you the full refund (2-4 weeks) but you *will* get refunded at any time up until the miner ships.

Expected return per share? Honestly, your guess is as good as mine! We can play with calculators from BitcoinX and The Genesis Block all day long, but those are just estimations roughly grounded on future network difficulty changes. We all hope to make a profit but if things go sour, well at least risk is shared and any refunds requests will be handled as promptly as possible. We also hope to sell the unit(s) at the 6-7 month mark to recoup investment costs and split the proceeds among owners.

We do know that from user FCTaiChi's hard work that the current #1 and #2 pre-order options as far as estimated returns are CoinTerra IIs and IVs. Group Buys are meant for those miners trying to get access to the best values at the lowest prices and are hoping to hedge their bets across multiple strong bets.

Research is showing me that Cointerra is a better bet at the moment, that said I do like the upgradability of Bitmine. The question is how much for the upgrade mods and how much juice will they really use?
If we could get a Bitmine rig upgraded to 2 TH/s in Jan. 2014, for under $6000 it starts to make sense.

At the moment Bitmine asks $ 14,999 for 2 TH/s (not so good).
Cointerra (IV) $6000 promises 2 TH/s in January at a much better $3 a GH/s.
Even with the worst predictions in Difficulty we have a good chance of making a bit of profit.

Im starting to feel bad about all the KnC shares I bought. Its not looking good for ROI at the moment, but thats life and a bit of the risk we all take in this game.

Looking at the charts, it does seem to be the best bet. But, I'm a little apprehensive because of the tsunami of ASIC's hitting homes in the next 1-3 months.

jungle_dave summed it up very well (I hope your KnC(s) start shipping soon) and Andrew, you hit the nail on the head; all we can do is look at charts at this point. We also have to remember that out past 3 months into the future, any projections we can do start looking crystal ball-ish. Us miners *hope* the crazy growth will level out soon but it may not be until Spring. It could turn out that this crazy new growth is the norm and it *could get even worse* and in a few years we could all end up laughing about the relatively slow network growth of the fall/winter of 2013, when compared to future norms.

This assumes a January 1, 2014 start date which is being optimistic. You'll note that the profit for this miner is made by the 5th month using these projections w/ ultra cheap electricity, another advantage of doing a Group Buy with me, and actually shows that the miner should probably be sold at the *five month* window instead of 6-7 because returns diminish considerably but the unit may still have higher resale value (being in-hand; there *still* could be a shortage of in-hand hardware if the mining market continues to expand in size and diversity).

Where we could run into issues is the same thing that bedevils any GB: slow delivery from mfgs. The delivery could be on January 30/31 for this CTII & it would still end up being a January delivery with none of the benefits of running for the whole month of January. That's how small the margin of error has gotten.

Most people have done their homework on these GBs & come to their own conclusion whether to pass or proceed. Taking off my salesman hat for a minute, which is not the usual role for a GB Coordinator at this point: It appears to me if you're using these projections as a guide, one shouldn't even mine! However, these Group Buys are for those that think that pure buy & hold is plain boring even if it's estimated to give the best returns compared to mining at the moment. One thing to keep in mind about the mining calculators we all use: they're all just algorithms, and while algorithms help rule and control the world around us, they're only as good as the data, rules, and models that you build into them. These algorithms can only estimate for factors such as future network growth & plain ole luck favored with math: like BTCGuild getting 6 discoveries in a row in the same day (150BTC on those ones alone).

Group Buys are good for getting the very best values (at cost in my Group Buy's case) and hedging your bets by spreading your bets among what you think are several strong contenders as far as mfgs. *and* GB Coordinators.

For myself, I Buy & Hold & do dollar cost averaging twice a month on BTC coin purchases but I also have pre-orders in with BFL (2 Jallys; ebay sold & funds applied to HF), 1/4th of a HashFast Baby Jet (Round 1 Group Buy), a couple of 2-2.7GH/s USB thumbs from Barntech, and a couple of shares (so far) in what will likely be a Cointerra or Bitmine unit...because I'm one of those that think pure Buy & Hold is boring while still practicing the general benefits. I also own shares in AM as mentioned and 13 shares in the mcxNOW exchange that pays interest on deposited BTC and fee payouts for all activities on the exchange.

On the issue of CoinCraft Desk vs. Rig. I'm pretty sure the Rig has a turbo mode too. It is just not advertised very well.

CoinCraft Rig has better J/GH/s ratio-not so important with cheap electricity and short time of operation (5-7 months), is rack mountable, but GH/s/$ ratio is worse then CoinCraft Desk.

Giorgio was upfront in the Custom Hardware about it & was a bit challenging/apologetic (quite a nice feat in the same sentence) about not having worked on it for 2 years like Simon Barber. Turns out they turned to experts on areas they were needed help: they partnered with InnoSilicon & Global Foundries.

Unlike scam sites however, if you check their website: everything that should be in place, is in place: SSL certification, appears to have IDs vetted by BTC payment agency, matching legit LinkedIn links from the two primary agencies at Bitmine from a mfg. that is shipping Avalon clones that don't need much mods (if any) to be able to run Gen2 ASIC chips.

The anonymous gentleman was asking about which exchange I was using to value the USD to BTC ratio since I was pricing shares for my 2nd GB in USD instead of BTC (TL;DR: As a GBC, it doesn't matter to me!):

On the issue of a CoinCraft Rig vs. Desk. I'm in for whichever one has the lowest GH/$ cost.

The Desk has a higher confirmed Turbo hashrate, but based on the quote below wouldn't the Rig have more overhead for Turbo mode?
Therefore might it be possible for the Rig to have a lower GH/$ cost while running in Turbo mode?

Thanks for pointing that out. It's two important details Commandermk mentioned right before Bob (sorry Bob): the operating temps and delivery window.

1. Any overclocker knows cooler is better, so if you start of w/ something that's designed to flush heat and/or generate less heat in the first place you have much, much better chances of overclocking in the first place, and being able to overclock somewhat aggressively if that's what the R2 Co-op members vote on. I told one potential miner client that my first overclock was a Celeron II overclocked 50% from 300 Mhz to 450Mhz, the first major CPU overclock from an Intel chip (man, I feel old saying that).

Fortunately, as far as our miner, bobsag3 has AC to spare & then some, so we should have a high upper limit to Overclocking on Round 2 if we vote on that.

2. Last I heard from Giorgio, it was starting to get into the Dec. 21 shipping date window if everyone had their BTC somehow ready to go. Keep in mind, delivery windows get shot to pieces when faced with the onslaught of actual X-mas deliveries. That Bitmine unit may slip shortly into the January timeframe in which it has to compete with the CTII.

I also have to point out that I expect that the somewhat high prices of the add on modules ($14-15K for 2TH/s) should go down in pricing as time goes on & ASIC hardware continues to ship to miners and prices inevitably decline elsewhere in the ASIC hardware marketplace.

If you think about it, there could be as many as 50-60 days shipping difference between KnC & Bitmine. (Hehe, taking all these opposing viewpoints is fun)

Also, I received another unsolicited payment for shares worth 1.97BTC from a R1/R2 co-op member! These shares are valued at $126.22 (current Coindesk price) and will be applied to shares. If we go with ~$137.50 shares via KnC and BTC hasn't appreciated up to ~$137.50 by the time we transfer BTC to the mfg., I may have to ask this member (and the other pre-paid gent) to chip in a little extra.

Some information, speculation and my thoughts that led me to change my vote:

Assumed KNC ship date - 20th November, with 23rd November delivery, Bitmine ship date - 23rd December, with delivery in the end of December/beginning of January.

KNC Jupiter will be probably 500+ GH/s (but not upgradeable) and delivered min 30 days before Bitmine - this could be crucial. Majority of return will be gained in first 3 difficulty jumps even before Bitmine devices ship.

Worse J/GH/s ratio of KNC Jupiter against Bitmine devices isn't important with cheap electricity.

Network hashrate jumped to 1270 TH/s :o (only ghash.io is 190 TH/s) and there will be huge jump with KNC September/October delivery in 1-2 weeks. The sooner we start mining, the better chance to ROI.

FYI: My Round1 Group Buy is Order #991, so you'd have even earlier placement then the gentlemen who banded together with me to form our R1 GB Cooperative. What's your take on this new news? You and the other R1 gents & I would be doubling up on a HashFast bet but, wow, we'd get it in very early Nov. instead of laaate Dec. or most likely January (KnC: late Nov.) with other options. Costs a little bit more than the intended $5K max size of this R2 GB, but the profit projections (and industry best MPP) make this very attractive.

My take: this might be our very best shot at meeting ROI in the short to mid term compared to any other avail. option.

That sounds relatively fair although I'm showing their BTC value as higher than both Coindesk *and* Coinbase. As long as we're within 5% either way, I'm fine with this. I just didn't want to end up Mt. Goxed & having to pay an extra 10-15% out of pocket. This buy out of Order 616, of a little more than $6.1K adjusted for the seller's local currency changes, will essentially use up everything we put together; any tiny left over, if any, is going to be directly applied to a UPS/Battery solution, as bobsag3 has redundant power but it's meant for longer outages. One reason he can charge such low hosting prices is he's depending on the miner to decide how much local battery backup/UPS voltage regulation + power filtering protection the client wants for their machine(s).

This is the wallet that we'll be transferring funds from when the buyout transaction is set up. I already have about 8BTC in mcxNOW shares there I'll sell for my share of the BTC when ready. I had 0.538 BTC in this wallet prior to GB R2 deposits. I confirmed the price with the buyer; we just need to gather up all our funds (deadline for payment is tomorrow night: Saturday, 8PM HST or your shares are forfeited to the next person in line) and set up the escrowed transaction, which he agreed is an acceptable payment/handover method.

Seems to be a nice demand for backup shares. I thought I was 2nd in line for backup shares but there was a PM that was overlooked earlier from a R2 co-op member, so I'm technically in 3rd place for backup shares. There seems to be interest in a Round 3, as another anonymous gentleman has contacted me with an offer to buy half of a Sierra if we can work together on Round 3. That way he can use Round 3 as training wheels to be a GBC as an introduction to running his own GB on the Group Buys Forum. Essentially: there'd be 2 GBCs on the next round, the largest shareholder/new GBC (who is or will be vetted thoroughly by me) and myself.

The new GBC would be taking the lead for Round 3 after pre-planning, with me advising behind the scenes, stepping in where necessary, and having override decisions as the veteran GBC/mentor. I will say that this person already handles people' IDs, cash, etc., etc.. regularly with no issues.

I would also be the remote primary admin for the R3 miner as well as handle payouts, troubleshooting, and incremental overclocking (if that's what we vote for), so no worries about the a GBC running off w/ the co-op's miner or siphoning off hashrate as long as the majority are satisfied with the shipping/hosting location.

This user is trusting me to transfer the money ($1010) sent via PP gift last night to my checking acct., where it will be used to buy BTC for GB shares. I'm listing 7 shares as paid (rounded up) with 3 shares pending. Which segues into this snippet of a PM exchange with the largest promised shareholder of R2 with 10 shares reserved. This is what I sent the owner of 10 promised shares last night (with one minor edit):

"I checked Coinbase. It only links to Bank Accounts which is why it's so inexpensive compared to other methods of BTC purchasing such as BitInstant or BTCquick. Darn. I'll have to wait until your funds are in our checking before I can buy BTC at a 1% fee at Coinbase next week Wednesday or Thursday.

I already started the transfer from PayPal to our checking acct. which will take 3-4 business days. I'm listing your shares as 7 paid (rounded up 6.601 shares) with 3 pending when I update the spreadsheet.

I don't want to push my luck or I might lose support and since we're a democratic co-operative, I need their support.

If you're agreeable to doing a refund or partial refund, I could also split 1 of those shares I could hold with you, so you'd have 7.5 shares & I'd refund you 0.101 shares for a R2 HF miner. That's another refund option that still retains an additional half share. I'd probably sell 1 of those shares to someone else in the co-op or to my wife's cousin who's coming over to replace our screen door shortly and was blown away by what I told him about Bitcoin - he works in a bank & never heard of it, although he lives near HashFast.   :D "

The first person that paid their shares (3 BTC) was refunded 0.621 BTC this morning and is keeping 2 shares instead of 3 (this backup share has already been claimed & paid). Instead of taking the refund, this anonymous Round2 Hero donated it to an anonymous Round1 DZ Cooperative member who's been having a hard time.

Wow! That is *very* generous (esp. if you consider future potential BTC values) and was much appreciated by the Round1 recipient, esp. since he or she has had such a hard time recently. I won't say what his or her disability is, but it's rather substantial. I had intended this previously but hadn't announced anything, but half of 1 of my 10 shares for our R1 HashFast miner is also intended for this gentleman or lady, in case you're wondering why my payouts for 10 shares of R1 in November may be lower then expected.

This R1 co-op member *could* be scamming the both of us, but from the previous PMs I've had with this person and our shared love of culture and history, I highly doubt that this is the case. There were also no solicitations for help when I was notified of this condition, more of a statement of fact and gratitude for my help, that made me truly realize the awesome responsibility of helping others and handling their funds and hardware.

I am *not* trying to solicit donations for this gentleman or lady, so please don't send me PMs about donations. It's simply 2 random acts of kindness from a couple of co-op members.

This would push back the date of getting it by about a month (maybe 2) if I'm not mistaken, and the miner we have has the MPP.

Nope no delay. The original miner ships regularly. They would ship a 2nd chip to us when Batch 2 starts shipping. We would install the chip on our end, it just drops into the board. This upgrade would allow us to double our hashrate approximately 1 month after we start mining.

With overclocking, we could have ~1TH/s in December. I like that idea ;D

Also the MPP doesn't kick in until 3 months in, that is a long time in the Mining world. I feel better doubling our Hashrate in December, in comparison to quadrupling it February. Who knows what the Difficulty will be then?

This upgrade means $3/GH/s (with overclocking to 500 GH/s) in December and additional payment of $38 per share.

Nahh - I never sleep much more than an hour or two.  So many group buys.  So little time....

I hear ya on that. The family baby: Butters the cat, a Kauai native, seems to wake me up to be pet usually about an hour before my alarm, almost without fail. He was born outside, we tamed him, shots, neutered, and now he cruises in and out of the house and lives in cat heaven with all the freedom he wants.

I'm trying to get to bed earlier to try to compensate. Hasn't worked out so well.

As for R5, I may take a break, but I may *host* the co-op's GB in a R5 thread & take a true backset as a co-GBC on the next one. Worked with 2 GBCs (with a few minor bumps, sorry) so why not 2.5 GBCs and 1 or 2 vetted miner hosts?

These things take time & don't want to piss off the wife. The last week's required a lot of extra attention. It's been a successful week for these 2 GBCs and 1 vetted miner host: The co-op's done about $24K worth of at-cost ASIC and UPS/Batt. sales in the last week for 3 miners.

Love that chip news which I missed, so thanks! Sounds like they est. 3-10 days to install chips/heatsinks/thermal paste/fans in (hopefully) Plug N Play rigs ready for some brians, I mean brains, an ASIC brain (AKA chip).

HashFast paid a premium to ensure that they get these chips on time. They're hand carrying the first chips on a flight when they're ready. We're all pulling for them in this co-op.

No, it was payments sent to the wrong wallet address that I thought were unpaid shares. I went thru the R2 shares/payments w/ a fine tooth comb & found the errors. 2.46BTC for R2 was sent to the R3/R4 wallet on purpose by -Redacted- in case shares opened up. I had also sent extra BTC there to help out which I moved back. Long & short: we're all paid up for R2-R4 and we're only awaiting 1 payment for 1 share in R4, for all GBs.

2 shares opened up which he had already pre-paid & it was immediately applied to our Buyout, which should take 1-3 days depending on HashFast getting back to the Seller; I know John's on travel so hopefully he'll authorize Cara to do the ownership and/or Shipping location change.

If the MPP kicks in, I may have to have the Order 616 seller mail us the extra chips at our cost.

As for open shares in the co-op: Thomas & I are taking backup reservations for R4 in case there's refunds anywhere in R1-R4 and someone would like to apply their R4 backup share reservation to R1-R3.

Refunds aren't fun from a GBC's POV, but sometimes stuff happens & people need to drop out (which is why a good GBC has some BTC on hand for instances like this; it's not expected you keep 100% of the sale on hand, but some reserve BTC is a good practice).

So I know we have extra funds in R2-R4 I think for UPS etc right?

How about a little less beefy UPS and a extra air conditioner for all of them? I could give all the machine a nice little corner of the warehouse with their own special cooling. Would alow us to get any extra OC out of them.

I had some initial concerns but Bob was able to help me understand his local situation much better. He says if there's an outage of longer than 20 minutes it will take hours to get power back online.

On the bright side: after checking, he says there hasn't been any outages for longer than 8 minutes in the last 7 years, and none in 2012.

In that case, since as far as fund-raising, we're an at-cost co-operative - or as close as possible without being a charity - so I'm in for this plan because:


1) HF chips seem to want to be massively cooled and will Overclock best in cold conditions unlike 55nm Bitfury chips, for example.

2) Even if we only get a 15% boost in Overclocking due to the frigid conditions, that would allow us to overclock a 1.2TH/s Sierra from:

say 1380GH/s with a 15% overclock to 1560GH/s for a 30% Overclock which could do wonders for our mining attempts.[/color]

3) HF is estimating their MPP of 2-4X extra hashrate shipped to customers based on stock hashrate ROI calculations.  :)

4) As long as we get to 20 min. est. battery backup (*with* overclocking because that draws extra power), I'm fine with using extra funds on extra A/C for the HF miners as long as the co-op is fine with this.

Sounds good to me. We can also back off on the OC during battery backup to extend the run time.

I prefer A/C over battery backup with this low probability of outages.

Just confirmining on top of any ac we may purchase, the warehouse has its own built in AC, + the Missouri Winter

We are going to need extra AC sooner or later. If we have good vents at the warehouse then the Missouri winter + dehumidifiers might be cost effective in the short term. Its the summer months that will get be a challenge, Im hoping we will be in upgrade mode by then so with the extra heat there is no avoiding the AC subject in the long term. The question is do we need it now?




Agree with the higher thermal footprint of HF chips requiring higher airflow and lower temps, + we will be getting more chips = more heat.
 I would say, lets research prices, get it up and working and see how far we can push the boundaries. If an outside air source is unfeasible I say we go with a beefed up AC now (preferably blue!).

I am working on having a large air intake installed in the wall right behind my current rack, and then a pair of exhausts in the vaulted ceiling. This should mean for minimal - to no AC needed from November thru march based on my research.

That sounds fair. Whenever someone wants to do a refund - say, during a family emergency - that could be the fastest way to have the shares sold.

Just please Carbon Copy PM me on any sales/transfers please so that there's no "he said, they said" controversy. Also, please include Tx IDs & feel free to custom sign the payment transaction if you want a transparent buyout.

I really don't want anyone to feel like they're being forced into extra payments, so please feel free to let other co-op members buy you out at-cost, with no hard feelings. Doubling hashrate for only 25% more makes a ton of sense but I understand if you'd like to back out.

I apologize for the late spreadsheet update. We're basically victims of our own success. In hindsight, I would've only tried to manage 2 GBs at once because I was still closing out R2. Don't forget I have a life too. Or at least a modicum at this point & I cannot afford to piss off my wife who's actually pretty understanding, all things considered.

I had to make sure we had all shares accounted for and we're several time zones away which can make coordination difficult sometimes.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but as I said I have not been following the thread I can't find the answer: Is there any difference between the equipment being ordered for R1, R2, R3 and R4? Why are you so focused on R2, what is the difference between these groups?

R2 is a batch 1 buyout from another user of a hashfast babyjet, the reason it was being focused on so much was because the funds needed to be sent to be sent to escrow so we can have the order changed to us.

R3/R4 was run by two GBC's, me / DZ, it originally was 1 hashfast sierra w/ MPP and was opened before R2 was done because of the flash sale that hashfast was running. R3 ended so quickly that some people that wanted to be a part of it missed out and it was suggested we get another one so R4 was opened (no MPP).

R1 I wasn't part of so not sure think it was just a day 1 order of a babyjet.

Not complaining, just trying to get my own ducks in a row.  Since I ended up having to make a spreadsheet just to keep track of my buys and shares and upgrades, I can imagine how complex keeping track of the entire set of group buys gets!

It's coming later tonight. All of the 4 GBs have had their public code since last night up on the first page to confirm your ownership & # of shares. This code will be the source of our spreadsheet and will have wallet addresses added.

I know we went with Hashfast, but congratz to KNC today, announcing that the Juipiter will run 550+ Gh/s. 28nm ASIC is real now and here to stay (for the next couple months at least  ;))

So, I would to see R1 and R2 both upgraded.   How much are the upgrades,  how many shares do we need, how big is the upgrade, and when is it supposed to happen? 

If we can't get both upgrades I'll buy one, the ability for shareholders to upgrade their shares will be extended for a period of time, however I won't be able to bring it till the upgrade ships otherwise its just a loan (with no interest).

I'd think if its doubling the hashpower then it would be like adding additional shares to the mix (after the upgrade is received).

You still get the same hashpower in the end if you paid for the upgrade you get double your shares if you didn't you still keep what you had.

I'm good to do the same with an upgrade, so between us, we'll have both upgrades bought.

Some of the language on the Hashfast site makes me worried about when we put this order in.

Specifically from the third line of the Upgrade Kit description: "This offer is only valid while supplies last". I'm concerned that Hashfast is treating this upgrade more like an promotion, rather than an honest upgrade option for the Baby Jet Batch 1. So I think it would be good to upgrade as soon as possible, putting an order in as soon as we have enough shares bought between R1 and R2, or getting some clarification from Hashfast as to the ongoing availability of the Upgrade.

Including myself, it seems like there is a significant interest "picking up the slack" for these upgrade shares. I mean why would there not be? This is probably the cheapest $/Gh available until 2014. Along what thomas_s was saying, I think we should treat this upgrade as 40 (or 80 if we include both R1 and R2) new shares. Following the model of the original GB: Allow people to put in soft reservations, each person would be guaranteed their ability to upgrade their shares until a certain % of reservations/payments is hit, then a deadline for payment would kick in after which all unpaid shares would be made available to others in the GB. (Possibly through a bidding system or something else, can be decided upon once we get there...)

The current payments would obviously stand, but if something like 75% of the payments came in I think it is unfair to let the 25% remaining to hold back the rest of us (especially since there is good demand for their shares). You could insert whatever percentages you deem fair, but I think it's time to get the ball rolling on this.

This is all just a suggestion but having a little more structure/transparency to the upgrade process can not hurt. Any thoughts?  ???

I'm in agreement with what y'all are saying about speed/limited quantity & fairness to the majority of the co-op.

At the same time, while we close out this GB, I think we need to protect the original share owners that may be on travel, too busy, or too invested elsewhere, to keep up with the latest changes and come up with the BTC immediately to secure their R1 or R2 upgrade share which they fully deserve.

As long as the people involved w/ the "Buyout" of R1/R2 upgrade shares (which is one heckuva deal) give the orig. share owners an opportunity to buy back their R1 or R2 share *before* the upgrade part(s) ship, I have absolutely no issue with this "buyout" approach, assuming that orig. share buyer protection is built into the buyout to "get 'er done!"

Which, BTW, you know I'm all about having built this co-op out of ether with time/BTC/quality people invested into growing and improving: "The little Co-Op that could." As far as our niche of Industrial Class ASIC Rigs, this co-op may have possibly outsold every other GBC or co-op for the month of September (although I'm always open to correction or constructive criticism), so no reason to slow our momentum just because original R1/R2 owners are too busy or too invested elsewhere at the moment.

I have no problem with buying an upgrade and allowing any original R1/R2 owners the opportunity to re-purchase up until such time as the hardware actually ships.  Sounds good to me to treat the upgrade as additional shares that kick in once the upgrade is performed - I think it would make it easier to track who has what.

About Hashfast "while supplies last", I believe that is a bit of a protection for there industrial class contracts they signed. Icedrill came up a bit short on the funds they needed to build the bitcoin deathstar :) this should ensure a healthy supply of chips for us but we should be ordering sooner then later. History shows us that there always shortages and delays.
Even KnC is late and they are one of the few good ones out there.

Anyway the HF upgrades for $43 ea. for 10-13GH/s in December is still ON. These Upgrade Shares are even covered by HF's MPP.

*Any buyers of R1/R2 upgrade shares that are NOT the original share buyer for the first 40 shares in R1/R2, MUST sell the upgrade share they bought at cost to the original share owner *if* they change their mind *and* pay the new shareowner before the upgrade parts ship in late Nov. or early December.

Some tip to the person holding your at-cost share would be appreciated in this circumstance. Also, anyone bumped out of R1/R2 shares will be given the option to be contacted privately about any future at-cost or below-cost GBs that the DZ MC undertakes, ahead of everyone else.

Again, not your lawyer or investment advisor, but these appear to be the best available ASIC pre-order deals available since the original cost was $155 ea. in mid-August.
