I know everything is down right now.. especially Bitcoin.. Should we sell our alts for Btc and rebuy when it rises again or is it much for muchness?

if you are an experienced trader then yes you can add vast amounts to your stack..

if you aren't then no - HODL and ride it out.  Noobs lose funds left right and center in a bloodbath. if you believe in your portfolio then HODL go for a swim and come back in 2 weeks

I would not do that. I am holding few promising coins, and while they did decrease in $$ value, I am up about 20% in btc. When btc rises back up (and it will soon), I will be up more than if I had sold all and bought btc in this dip.

If your Altcoin has not taken too much hit already,  and provided your Altcoin is not ethereum of course you can sell your Altcoin for Bitcoin.  If your Altcoin is ether however it will be a big mistake if you sell.

I guess that's your decision in speculation on crypto. I think it's too risky to sell all your altcoin, because not necessarily the value will be greater. but if you have tried to analyze it is your thing.

If you could sell it by setting a stoploss at 5% or 10% it is acceptable but it is not a good choice to sell when sharp fall is already completed and it is about to recover. everybody start to collect alts now, if you sell your altcoins, you  will be lost 2 times.

This is the best way to look at the value of your alts when bitcoin is like this because whilst the USD value may look horrible the btc value is not as bad.

Dont sell any tokens you are holding while its down, especially those under the ico price, if the market doesnt crash, the price will rise very soon.

I see this strategy for people who really wants to invest more in butcoin but they do not have the resources or money to buy, their last resort would be selling their altcoins for bitcoin. This is not so wrong since it is your strategy, but if I were you, I would sell only some but not all. I would still want to see them all pump together.

if I were you, I will hold it all. I'm not a coin trader but for investment generally, I will hold all coins because I've seen the prices of bitcoin and altcoins rise and fall together. I'd rather try to hold all coins and collecting more and more for assets.
In the other side, If I think that I'm a trader, maybe yes that buying bitcoin using altcoins when all prices in low position is the best thing to do because bitcoin has highest price. it's just an opinion from a newbie like me.

I'm not saying the price can't go down any further because it can. Looking at a weekly time frame, bitcoin is trying to hold support at $10k, if it fails to hold this level, and since there is no clear support level beneath it, I would say it could go down to $8, or even $5k. All of these events are possible, but things keep changing, and only experience traders can analyze the markets and make these decisions on the fly, and even they make a lot of mistakes.

I would say that the wise decision for most people that can afford it, is to hold their coins during this time. If you believe in the potencial of crypto, specially bitcoin, you should believe that bitcoin is here to stay, so these prices are very low if BTC ever gets real adoption. So holding is the best decision.

The same thing goes for alts since they are connected to bitcoin. The only reason they are falling if because bitcoin is falling as well. As soon as bitcoin starts recovering, so will alts.

If the price is higher than that you buy, it is a good idea. If not, i think you hd better hold them. Though it is a good time to buy bitcoin, it still needs a lot of money to buy enough. And if you will lose you money by selling the alts, it's not a good idea.

Don't be hasty with your decisions. The reason prices drop so much when there is a bloodbath like this is exactly that - people panicking and selling everything as they suddenly believe it will all lose value. Hold you nerve, stop looking at coinmarketcap and go outside for a bit! It wont last and all the true coins with value will have a surge in a week or two.

If you have a small minus will be from this sale, then you can sell, then it will be cheaper to rebuild. If there is a big minus, then you should not sell. Wait until the correction is over and prices start to rise.

I think not a good idea. First that must be put to consider is what kind of altcoins you are holding? If do you think all of it are not good for keeping it long maybe selling it is the good move, but if these are potential altcoins better not to sell. Sometimes having altcoins is more profitable than bitcoin because of being too much expensive.

We al have been experiencing lack of hope for all prices but try to hold it mate even though prices are dump, dont sell alts for bitcoin, because if prices will be back, you have more options.

i think no.4 is not recommended because you will miss a great opportunity. no.3 is good if u want to be safer. atm no.1 and 2 are both good equal options.

If you are in loss don't sell your alts since those coins will recover too when bitcoin start to rise back, the corrections or the downfall right now

Yes, that seems to be good idea unless and until those coins are not potential coins to grow in the future. For example, I wouldn't sell my ether for the bitcoin because that would be really bad idea. This year ether is going to perfect coin and will rise a lot. People are also very sceptical about it and you will see how it will grow to 10K real soon. Considering other coins which were pumped artificially are not good stuff to hold so you can exchange them with the BTC for sure. If we work that way then we can have better opportunity to earn profits by the end of year. But I would really stress that we should not exchange the ETH. :-)

Agree I think you do not need to panic because of the current market conditions. you better go out and do refreshing for the next few days. I'm sure this terrible price change happens because of some news and issue that makes many users panic and sell their bitcoin. I think it's a wise choice to hold bitcoin, because it's the long term that makes money in the cryptocurrency market.

I don't think it has any sense because almost every alt is currently at low too. As we all know alts lose their value much faster than BTC. So I'm sure that we don't need to sell alts for BTC atm.

I think that you can try to dispose off those coins that are proving to be non-profitable or at least won't be in the next few months, especially if you're only eyeing for a short term investment. selling all altcoin is not a good solution for us because we only get lost too much money while bitcoin price is down too deep. the best thing that we can do is still hold the altcoin until the price increase back. but if you want to hold bitcoin only then you can sell all of your altcoins. I think we need to be patient for a while and I am sure that the price will be back normal again.

For me I will not sell alts for bitcoin while its down because every altcoins is a potential that can even compete bitcoin just like ethereum with a lot of potential now, we just hold for now or may be we buy the deep of this altcoins and bitcoin this time.

You may sell some of your alts to fund your bitcoin investment but don't sell it all. Make sure to fund the opportunity of some of your potentials alts to comtinuously grow. We are risk takers and all are investments will be worth it in time.

I don't think that is a smart move mate. Selling all your holdings to buy one coin is not a good move in the cryptomarket because diversity is key. The more you have, the more chances of success so they say. Also, many news saying that bitcoin will be stable for a while is surfacing, thus, if you intend to dispose all your altcoins for future use and profit by holding onto your traded bitcoin, then that might take you a long time to get your return because of the trend bitcoin is showing right now. I think the better move is to get rid of those altcoins that won't give you profit short term and use them to buy bitcoins as a replacement long term investment. Hold onto the coins that may give you quick and easy profit.

I would hodl and not sell.  Selling is what is partly responsible for this big drop as panic gets in the new investor and they want to cut their losses.  Believe me, I do want to cut my losses but am taking the advice of several friends that have been doing this for several years and have made a lot of money.  Just hodl, dont panic and wait for a recovery.

Not a good idea actually. You should wait for yhe alts to increase their prices and then take the aim as much profitabe bitcoin as you want. But, dont go all the way, try  to save some of your alt coins for future purposes.

If you're holding decent top 100 coins,I think you will be alright. I do think that all the "shitcoins" and x20 or x30 pumped ico's will not recover.

Your idea is sound as now satoshi value is very low and if we sell our altcoins now to convert it in btc and when bitcoin start rising, we get more value of satoshi and then many altcoins dropped.

Selling alts for bitcoin.... what is the benefit?
Lets say you have 100k xCoins and you will sale @ 1 sats each.. Total you will get BTC0.001 even in the btc dip or even at the btc peak. isn't it?
Whatever the situation is, ultimately you will get that much btc for as much alts you hodl according to the price.

I think this is why the market price is falling, everyone is freaking out selling their altcoin so that it affects market prices and all markets are down, so I suggest not to panic about selling your altcoin because its risk is very bad for other coin market.

By looking for the price, I think btc is good for investing at the current rate. All of the altcoins movement are depending from btc's price, so this will be good.

If you know the trade game of crypto, then it's not a bad idea since the price of Bitcoin went down. I suggest to not go all out with your alts. Save a little bit more so you can have something to go back to. Once bitcoin's price go back to normal, you can exchange again for more alts. Yes all down right now. But the right timing to sell your alt when the bitcoin rise (because all altcoins rise too) keep it and when bitcoin price down hurry to buy it. But for me the price of bitcoin still expensive better invest in eth that we still can reach the price. If you sell altcoin when the price down and direct buying bitcoin you will get profit loss. Better hold, sell when high, hold the cash, when the price down buy the btc.

Nice idea so do you have enough money to buy bitcoin but i don't prefer to buy all my alts just to buy bitcoins. Investing in a diverse method is i think the best way to earn more profit. In fact, i used bitcoin to buy my prospect coin and all is well. :)

When the price of btc increasing again as the price btc last november to december 2017 you may sell your btc for the huge profit or you can hold it if you are not convinced with the price..

No, I am not going  to sell all my altcoins to buy bitcoins because the coins i am holding now are of good potential. I think that market will rise soon and will generate me a good profit. Just don't take any silly decision in hurry, wait and think and then take your next step wisely.

That's what people do right now,that's why altcoin market in such bloodbath.You have to predict the right timing to jump to the sell wagon,if you're late,you will lose your money if you sell it.Many people miss the chance to sell,they're either sell in the red or keep holding and wait the storm to pass.So,in the future,always look for the right time to sell when everything going grim and buyback later when the price is in the bottom.

Also, from what I noticed it really depends on the amount of coins you have. If you have a lot of low priced coins those could easily triple or quadruple but BTC can go much less than double at this time.

I wouldn't recommend you to do it..It is dangerous and there is the chance the price goes up again and will never back down and you will be forced to buy coins by more high prices if they are worth to you. So, if you want to sell, just don't sell everything, sell just 40-50% percent of holdings , don't be greedy , that will save you from global money losses.

I do not see any sense in selling your bitcoins at the lowest price that has been observed in recent days to change it for some of the multiple altcoins that have emerged and will continue to emerge throughout the year. It is indeed recovering as of now which most people who did buy cheap coins on those dips are now smiling seeing on the profits that they made on a short period of time.This is the advantage if we do see those dips as opportunities to buy even more because those chances which we can barely able to see that's why we should not hesitate to buy even more because sooner or later coins prices will really recover no matter what just like on the thing we are seeing as of now.

I think that even though that might seem to be a good move since most, if not, all coins are going down in value, like the above-stated reply, I will not support selling all altcoins, maybe 50% will do to just have capital to buy and stack some bitcoin for future use. They aren't just smiling but they are celebrating and probably they are tapping their desk on how lucky they are for buying at dip. That's the lesson that everyone will soon going to understand that they must take the advantage during dip times. Its not a good idea to sell your coins for BTC,you will be rekt if the bitcoin goes wild again,the best thing to do is to keep the solid altcoins and stick with them while BTC is moving wildly few hours from now the market will recover fast and you will realize that im right to hold your solid alts than to sell them for BTC.

I think we should not sell alt for btc. etherum has started to rise, and if we do not have a lot balance of alt, selling it to btc is not the right thing because the value exchange of alt to btc is still low, better hold it.

You should be buying more in the dips,do not let the community makes you FOMO,buy cheap alts in the dips and wait for the market to stabilize so you can have easy gains,believe me weak hands always lose in the market and holders always win.

For me i would not sell all my altcoins that i am holding. I will just leave it all in my portfolio even if all of them are down. Buying bitcoin now is expensive even the value is going down. And it won't last long , all altcoins and bitcoin will be back on track again and all their value will go up again.

And it isn't really sensible to sell when the market is crashing. Only those who are new and inexperienced  traders would make that mistake. If you can't buy, then hold. Especially when its like that that both btc and alts are all down.

because if we sell our altcoin, we cannot make any profit at all and our money will not grow too and it is better to stay in our wallet until the price is back increase again. the price will not stay at bottom price forever and I am sure soon the price will increase and in that time, we can sell our altcoin to make a profit. just be patient and everything will be back normal and handle our emotion when we see the price in the exchange.

I think to sell bitcoin is not good now because we will lose if buy time with higher price, but if we have airdrop coins I think it's okay to sell it now before it burns

I think this is not the best idea. I do understand that it is not easy to stop yourself from selling your crypto when you see the coins start to fall, but holding and waiting here will be the best policy. As for me I stopped to panic and wait for the alts and BTC growth.

If you sell you Alts coin/token while everything was going down, that may result a big losses.

Up to you. But you have to really consider it. Bitcoin is good place for an investment, in a few moments you will get pretty much a profit if you buy with condition price go down. But keep in mind altcoin is good too for an investment. And the strategy for investment in altcoin is very good for choose long term investment but depending on the coin you have today.

As someone here already wrote, if you are confident in your crypto portfolio, you need to wait, and after a while prices are normalized.

My personal opinion is not to sell all alts for bitcoin during it becomes down. because still you have a risk after changing to bitcoins. so i suggest to sell portion of alts for bitcoins while it's down rather than selling all alts.

if you are stuck in altcoin then the price goes down and bitcoin increases in price then you should keep altcoin you do not sell it better if you have the capital again then buy again altcoin down it because it is an opportunity to buy when the price is cheap. if you buy bitcoin then you will be stuck in bitcoin too.

That's a mistake most have done and it's the complete opposite of what one must do. In order to profit, you should buy LOW and sell HIGH and not the other way around. Apparently, some have been pressured whenever the price goes down and feel the need to sell because they fear of losing. When the price goes up, people buy because of FOMO or having the fear of missing out, which shouldn't be the case. You should buy when the price dips then sell when it goes up. Although BTC has gone down, you should have also used the opportunity to buy when the alts had gone significantly done at the same time.

Depends what alts you have in the wallet.
But I prefer to invest in new Bitcoins and keep the alts that I have.

but I think it is better to still hold the altcoin until it is increase so we can sell to take a profit. because we are only take a loss if we sell the altcoin when it's down and I think we don't want to take a loss, right? there will be a time for us to have more bitcoin from our profit for selling the altcoin and patience is the best thing that we could do right now. once the altcoin price increase back, then we can take a big profit because when the altcoin increase, it will increase more than just 10%.

Bitcoin is slow, transaction fees are too high and the devs are always in disagreement about its direction...personally I moved out of bitcoin last year at a profit and am not going back in, ETH and EOS are the future. Could BTC hit 100k this year sure - market growth should be to around 5 Trillion by 2019 which means the top 50 should each see a 10x increase, but I believe this is where we see others gain more % over time.. Bitcoin had 80% dominance in 2016, 60% dominance in 2017, and is down to 34% already this year...its time is passing.

Personally Id wait for the correction and get out what I had in it and move to something else. Remeber you wont realize a loss unless you sell for a loss. Bitcoin will bounce back, but i wouldnt stay in past that.

Since bitcoin now is hitting again the bottom many are thinking to buy which is a good move to profit good but selling all your alts just to buy some especially if you have those promising one is really absurd. Just sell some of it and not all especially eth ( if you hold it ) as the price is increasing slowly but doing a great job. Another FUD again so expect bitcoin to be in dip.

You don't really need to sell your alts, just put another investment to bitcoin. Still depends on the alts that you invest in whether if you sell it that you'll get profit from it. And yes it is a good time to buy bitcoin now while it is down, you don't wanna miss the chance of that.

My suggestion is just hold the coin even the price is going down. I think the price will come back to normal sooner, just keep calm and hoping for the price to raise again.

If you are holding a potential altcoin or some top ten coin then it can be use for long term hodl because its price will sure to rise again after few weeks. Be sure you bought it at lower price so you can benefit from it when it price go up again. If you have no time for trading then still the best option is hodling if you have the patience to wait. Some price of the altcoins are up while bitcoin price is going down, time to make profits then buy again at lower price.

For me don't sell your altcoin because there are still have value and have potential to get profit, if you can afford to buy bitcoin without any selling altcoin then buy. Or if you have extra income to get maybe you can use it to buy bitcoin rather than selling your altcoin.

I believe in the projects I have invested in and they still have a lot of promise and upside and some will provide me with the passive income to semi retire from once they get going and grow bigger, so No I will NOT be selling right now any altcons for Bitcoin but if I have spare cash, I sometimes buy a little bitcoin with that, after I have seen my monthly living expenses are all covered and paid for. I am going long on some of my altcoin positions right now.

but i think that you can earn more if you sell it to bitcoin because when the price of alt raise the bitcoin will raise also , and you can earn more comparing bitcoin vs the alt you hold , the bitcoin price is fast moving so when it rise expect that you will earn more unlike when the price of alt raise it is limited to its low value  unless you will hold for a long time.

Hold both Altcoins and Bitcoin. You will never know which one will go up or when will it go up. My advice will be to diversify portofolio in order to lower risks and maximize profits.

This is wrong idea when the value was falling you sell it then if rising you buy again that was not good idea that was a very wrong. I don't think selling all altcoins for Bitcoin is a good idea at the moment. Yes, Bitcoin is very low right now, but so are the alts. On the other hand I don't like to put all eggs in one basket.

I think that's not good idea maybe its better if you hold it till the value increased, then probably you can get more profit. So don't take the risk of selling when its down, maybe you should buy than selling it when there's a dropping. All you need to do is to wait before you sell it.

Its up to you if you are also panic in the value just sall it if not hold and invest more. If you asking me im not selling my bitcoin because i know soon or soonest wil rising up again just like what happen last year so im trying to hold my coins and invest more to earn in the future because falling down of value was not permanent and soon its rising up again.

In my own opinion, it is not necessary to sell your alts for bitcoins because the value in the market is still decreasing, always remember that the value of altcoins is always base on bitcoins so you still none earn profit and it is better to hold your altcoins because it might grows up when the value of bitcoins rise up again.

Bitcoin value is ansolutely tempting and there is nothing wrong if you purchase more bitcoins and hodl them but selling altcoins for bitcoins is another story. If you think the altcoins you are hodling won't be recovering or give you any profit then i guess it is safe to say that you should sell them and buy bitcoins. However, if you are hodling altcoins that are actually profit gainers then i guess it is best to hodl those altcoins and wait until it pumps up. As for me, i would definitely hold on to my coins and wait.

It would be better if you maintain 10-20% of your portfolio per coin. You will lose some but will not lose it all. But i will not say selling ALL of your alts is a bad idea rather, it's just too risky.

It can be so hard to tell whether or not to hold onto the altcoins or go into bitcoin - it's so much pot luck ultimately, unless there is some sort of killer app for the altcoin that would really make it shine compared with bitcoin. The fact that so many of the cryptocurrencies move in tandem with each other is a bit disconcerting though.
