Recently, KFC Canada has accepted Bitcoin payments for a short period of time. However, Bitcoin can only be used to place orders online, and only to purchase a new item called "Bitcoin Bucket". And all this special deal will be handled by Bitpay, a fairly common Bitcoin trading tool. Its really interesting news, I wish that I can also buy chicken with Bitcoin in my coutry.  ::)

Major (9 Billion USD)  payment provider Stripe has just announced today they stop supporting Bitcoin payments - they conclude it because fewer and fewer are using it, and at the same time fees and transaction times makes it useless as a means of payment. With it being a franchise model I suppose it will be mostly down to individual franchisees. I wouldn't get to excited about this. If it was a big e-commerce player then that would be news but this is no different to a corner shop accepting bitcoin.

Its a very good news for all the consumers in Canada, I hope other fast food chain all over the world will follow accepting bitcoin as payment.

This is nice. If a store as large as KFC will begin to accept bitcoin then it is a start. Im happy that huge business are starting to accept bitcoin. I hope Mcdonald's and Pizza chains will start to accept digital coins as payments too. This is faster way of making an order online.  KFC is only accepting "bitcoin Chicken" i hope we can purchase more from their menu soon.

NO IT IS NOT! Who that is not completely out of his mind would buy anything when the fee is 25$? Of course you can pay a lower fee but then you have to wait 3 or more days before they can deliver the food.

I think this is a step in a great direction for bitcoin, most especially having the KFC brand name behind it. Even though for now its via online payment. If it is a success, of which I think it would be, other major companies will join in.

However just to come to any local point of KFC food and pay bitcoins at the ticket office will not work you can only order a basket from a limited series at home. To make online payments KFC enlisted the support of the Bitpay operator and you can track the current price of the Bitcoin-Basket in btc using a special tracker on facebook. The bucket of chicken itself will cost about 20 Canadian dollars (plus taxes and $ 5 CAD for shipping).

An off-topic (but funny, so I will share) thought has occured to me: it seems that KFC will be needing to implement KYC now.

Canada has accepted Bitcoin payments to buy KFC chciken and pay by bitcoin payment, that is good inovation for bitcoiner in Canada, they can make payment when buy KFC and pay it by bitcoin, just waiting in another country will be can make payment by bitcoin or not. KFC is the greatest restaurant have give the good service for bitcoiner to make payment by bitcoin and I am so happy if can be there and make payment by bitcoin too.

This is a good news for this platform, Day by day Bitcoin is getting accepted in many renowned platforms so that the usefulness of Bitcoin is becoming high and high. Interesting and disappointing at the same time. I think they'd rather let some other dedicated payment processor to handle the bitcoin payments.

More and more people know Bitcoin. And I'm sure this opportunity is greatly utilized by big food companies like KFC, to enliven the cryptocurrency market and take a little profit from the Bitcoin they collect from their food sales. And I have never bought food with Bitcoin. Maybe the sensation will be different than we pay with real money. I want to try it sometime.

I saw this story a couple of weeks ago, surely it is just a gimmic at the moment as transaction fees would multiply the price of your meal. Why not be smart about things and get youself a crypto debit card instead? I got my Centra card at the end of December and I bought a pizza using XRP, I bought stuff from ebay using BTC and drinks at a bar using ETH. All with zero transaction fees. I can also take out cash from an ATM anywhere in the world and iwll be using it for travelling next week

it is unlikely that it will be bitcoin due to high fees. Bitcoin will be occupied by other crypto, but by that time the government will come up with how to control the Crypto currency. Consequently, the Crypto currency will not differ from ordinary money

Every establishment that puts faith and tries to integrate it to how they do business is something that has really been a boost to how bitcoin is discovered. It gives off that this can really be made possible, this showcases that cryptocurrencies value is not a fluke and gives to something that can be utilized and maybe considered to be another currency that people might understand

This is good news. At least some countries started accepting bitcoin. Although it is only KFC, it shows that this is an improvement. When the general public starts to accept bitcoin, bitcoin goes further into an economy.

the good news for bitcoin user especially in canada, ;D but one thing I think about this, is it still effective if a merchant uses bitcoin as a payment? for example in this case, what is the price of the package offered in btc and how much fees of each transaction, if the fees to be paid almost or even exceed the price of the package, of course, many people will think again to buy. In my opinion, maybe merchants are better receiving cryptocurrency payments with lower fees and faster transaction than bitcoins.

This is both a good and bad for me. Good because it will increase the popularity of bitcoin because many people are eating at KFC but its bad too because we know that the fees are too high for bitcoin and its too slow. I would rather suggest a more scalable coin.

Good news for bitcoin family. KFC accepting bitcoin for shopping online! This will make things more easy all over the world. This is not of much use to me as I am a vegetarian. However, as an investor this is good news. It will pump the prices as Bitcoins will become more popular.

This is a geart example of acceptance of bitcoin. Crypto currency is becoming famous day by day. A few days ago, it was almost unknown to all. Even I didn't know about crypto currency 3 years ago. But the increasement of trading, acceptance of different countries gave crypto currency a new platform. To me it will be a new ear of Crypto currency. Given the size of the commission, a bucket of chicken will be very expensive. I tend to believe that this is more of an advertising move than a real need.

It was done during the very first bitcoin purchase of pizza so why not chicken?

I thought it was just a gimmick they were trying to pull of with their bitcoin price ticker on the bucket of KFC chicken trying to gain attention to their brand to the gen Y/X/whatever they want to be called at any given hour.
To look more innovative and with the time than other big restaurant brands.
But didn't know they were accepting bitcoin for the product they are selling itself. ;D

Good news if they are going to start doing it so other ones like pizza hut and subway will start to accept crypto payments as well if it is a success that is. :-\

I think it should happen because they compete to make it easier for buyers, if KFC has used Bitcoin as an online payment maybe Mcdonald and Pizza will follow the same way as KFC, because then it will be very easy for their online payment system.

Maybe in other country like US and canada,they accept bitcoin as a payment  in restaurant transaction  like paying to buy a KFC chicken bucket,or other kind of services,but here in my country,they would not accept it,being payments in buying goods,because only  the traditional currency would they accept,and credit card,as a  part of only local exchanges.

although it is very easy and good for bitcoin development but in some countries buying food at restaurants by paying using bitcoin will be banned. it would be better if we exchange the bitcoin with the country's money so as not to get a ban.

Bu bitcoin was created to be used for transactions. I think many other markets will accept bitcoin or other cryptocurrecies in future.
And I had not heard any thing about restaurants ban till now. But if it's true, most probably it is due to taxes. That's why governments want to regulate bitcoin. If they get taxes, they will allow markets to use bitcoin.

Canada is more open to bitcoin then any other country I know. I wish my country would be like Canada at this point.

It is good to read that you can buy KFC chicken with bitcoin. It is a matter of time. More companies and organisation will com to accept bitcoin as means of payment. This is just the beginning.

basically they are still in test mode, so tomorrow or at any time they can decide that this method of payment is not viable, as well as the delay of confirmations and high fees would not surprise me if they said that this method of payment is not viable , what we should do is not cultivate high expectations with every news that says: "place X now accepts bitcoin"; "nasdaq thinks about future bitcoin" and we are already in the social networks to celebrate before we take some time to see if it will even be possible that such news becomes concrete in the long term



you could do this months ago, it was enough to have a Bitcoin debit card that you would buy many things in your country, unfortunately now you can not ask for the card

I have never heard of this news. If it's true then it's good news making all the way good for the customer point of view. In the future accepting the payments is a good idea for accepting at All major food outlets and franchises. It can be vendors more better in the future if the coins are a widely used currency as well. That would be the most happiest news for me.

Buying chicken with bitcoin is like shooting a fly with a rocket launcher, so It's just a marketing stunt from KFC. Paying with bitcoin is still a problem with the high fees. But it shows that cryptocurrencies are getting more popular day by day.

This must be just a marketing strategy and it's actually pretty good, by riding bitcoin's fame these days many companies are associating themselves with bitcoin or other crypto just like this one, i'm not sure if many availed such program but for me it would be a waste of bitcoin including the potential gain from it.

Agree with you this is impossible especially in my country this will be a sensitive conversation let alone a lot of bitcoin is prohibited by all parties who do not understand it.

With the fluctuating price of bitcoin these days using them to purchase goods like this is quite impractical to do since bitcoin is more of an investment rather than a currency and I think those who uses their bitcoin to purchase a bucket of chicken will regret when time comes that bitcoin value will pump and appreciate again.

Exactly, Because of fluctuating price of Bitcoin these days , I think that it is impossible to do. However, I think in the future, KFC, as well as other places, will accept altcoins instead of Bitcoin because people now consider Bitcoin as an asset rather than a currency for trading.

$15 that you will be spending for some chicken will end up being $1000 in few years  :D. More like the pizza event. But sadly the fee of making the transaction is way much higher than the price of the bucket, though fees are made on our choice, but paying less fees means we will be receiving our order after few days.
Jokes aside, a good step taken by them. Might attract some crypto enthusiastic customers in Canada.

Good news for the people in canada, store are starting to accept as a payment. Its good to buy now since we have small transaction fee as of the moment and fast confirmation. Hopefully some others offline establishment will follow to accept crypto currency not just bitcoin :D

It is a big leap in bitcoin since KFC is well known around the world but i think they really need to fix the rough patches we all know that it takes almost an hour or 2 before a transaction completed and what about bitcoins volatility especially now bitcoin is fluctuating a lot i don't think they'll gonna accept btc if it's not stable enough although i hope this news is true cause if it is, it is a really big step from bitcoin.

Yes, we all know that transaction fees are still too high, and that's not quite as effective as micro-payments.
Adapted payment with cryptocurrency is good, but still need improvement in order to be more effective.

This is both great and crazy. It is great that one of the largest fast food company in the world recognize Bitcoin, but come on who would spend bitcoin for a bucket of chicken specially with the fees right now. It is still better to use FIAT for small purchases. If Fees and latency will be fixed then this will be a great option.

In fact, in Japan and South Korea, many convenience stores and merchants support the use of bitcoin for payment, but some countries such as China are more vulnerable to bitcoin

Yeah that's good news, but in selected branches in a particular country overseas but here in the Philippines, it is not yet implemented. So we'll wait and see for latest updates.

Exactly my thoughts. This is a double edged sword currently. The good thing as you said is that a huge brand like KFC accepting bitcoin as an alternative source of payment is a huge step forward for bitcoin, but the bad thing is that not many people would be willing to use bitcoin to pay due to the long transaction times and high transaction fees.

This is the primary reason why I encourage people to use segwit enabled wallets to help mitigate this problem to a certain extent. Also, the upcoming integration of the lightning network will also help solve this problem to an extent.

Bitcoin is usefull. We can do anything with bitcoin. The previous year, I spent my long holiday with my lovely family by bitcoin :)

if I personally have never bought chicken in KFC with bitcoin, but I know that in my area there is no payment policy with bitcoin, but I also hope someday bitcoin can reach there, and all people know it all about it.

Hopefully all, maybe all the restaurants accept a fee thru bitcoin. It must better if that happens. Many of us bitcoin users are likewise like that. There are so many who like that. Hope others like jollibee, mcdonalds and other restaurants receive a fee from bitcoin. for me why not? the only thing is that you have to change first the bitcoin to their own currency. if they accept it so you can buy now KFC chicken and not only that,maybe you can buy also some important things you like.

in your country receive payment with bitcoin, different from my country. in my country payment or transaction using bitcoin is not recommended because bitcoin is not a valid payment instrument.

This is not very convenient. I can not buy Bitcoin Bucket and Pepsi paying for all bitcoin. And payment in two different ways for 1 order is problematic

At the moment, such purchases by bitcoin are illogical. Bitcoin is now more suitable for the accumulation and transfer of capital. But not for small purchases.

No THAT would be game changing- imagine the exposure to BTC, and also the many many big macs that can be bought when BTC moons :D

Its a good thing that stores as reputable as KFC has recognized the capacity and Potential Bitcoin has and has moved ahead to accept the coin as a means of pay. This is a boost to BTC since it has struggled to gain proper recognition outside cryptocurrency world.  we hope more stores will embrace Bitcoin Payment.

I have seen a trend where when people or businesses starts to accept bitcoins for a payment method, the value starts to go very high and I know this will help the crypto community as a whole.

This is a very good news for all of bitcoin users. It was a good promotion from the stores. Maybe the store is aware in the cryptocurrency and it try how many people would hook in their promotion. Its good to hear that one of the famous franchise food chain is accepting bitcoin  as a payment.

But I think, it was only in the selected KFC Branch. Hopefully it will continue and other big  franchise company such as Jollibee, Mcdonalds, greenwich, shakeys and other food chains will follow the trend. It was so convenient if  it will have this kind of promotion in many business stores.

We hope that more large companies would accept payments in bitcoin and that would be a lot of convenience for us many people especially those who use bitcoin. It is not impossible to happen, so we must continue to use bitcoin and other crypto currencies because more people use it, the more companies will be attracted to use it also.

Big country like canada are accepted payment since when I start to use Bitcoin last 2017 so here in the Philippines that news is not big deal here because that country is one of the most progressive economy and have a high speed internet capacity.

Yes,currently we can buy KFC Chicken through Bitcoin.But this is available only in KFC Canada.We can use Bitcoins only in online orders and to purchase new item called "Bitcoin Bucket".We wish this facility will be soon applicable in all over the world. This is really good news for those who love KFC, I myself love KFC and I'm really happy with this news. I may be mistaken from a technical point of view, but the transaction fee is such a problem that would stop me when paying for KFC. Sooner or later there will be such payments, but with other coins in which transactions with a minimum payment. I would not waste any crypto currency for any, most delicious and luxurious dinner in the world, because I consider it a crime against myself. This is purely a psychological aspect. I heard that the other branches of KFC around the world accepted bitcoin payments but not all branches of KFC allows it. It will be easy if you can buy different foods or meals not only in KFC but also in other fast food chains. I believe that other fast food restaurants accepted bitcoin payments.
