Title: Beware of Coins-E - they are stealing coins from the users
Post by: sumantso on September 14, 2013, 04:25:23 PM
Update: Seems like the exchange is running on autopilot. I would suggest you to withdraw all your funds.
Update 2: They are under 'new' management. Still not got my PXC back. Tread with caution

I am creating this thread as a last recourse since the exchange is ignoring any communication from us and also to warn others of the potential pitfall of keeping the money there.

Last Friday (6th Sept) I withdrew 12k PXCs from Coins-E to my Cryptsy account. When those coins failed to arrive, I sent their support a mail and received a fairly quick reply saying they are looking into it. Over the weekend I mailed again asking for the status and finally got a mail on Monday saying their withdrawl has been processed. When I asked them for the transaction ID, they sent me this - bf282a81bca400ff7e71a9960eda6b4a4bf35aeffa5f704fb403bf9f8c2b4167

As you can check for yourself, this doesn't show up on the blockchain. When I asked them to show the transaction on the blockchain, I again got the reply
 'Hi,
Sorry for the trouble caused. Our technical team will soon fix the issue. Your support and patience is highly appreciated.'

These all happened on Monday, 9th September. 2 days later they posted here saying 'Coins-E is working on the PXC problem, it seems their was a forced update the company wasn't told about.. rest assured you can still send your coins if your on the original chain.'

However, they outright lied, as MaGNet replied immediately pointing out they were indeed informed well in advance https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270170.msg3128647#msg3128647

In the meantime, of course, they continued to ignore any communication from us. I understand they may have some problems and need time to fix; but they could at least inform us of that. The total silence on their part has made me nervous and unfortunately it looks like they just stole all the money. I withdrew the remaining PXCs to the same address (http://explorer.phenixcoin.com/a/PiKzgFoHJd), so clearly their client is working fine.

After they ignored all my mails and PMs I went to their chat and found a resident chat box camper (coin-rider) who kept vouching for the exchange and its support. I requested him to mail the exchange on my behalf and he duly obliged. But (surprise, surprise) still no response.

Users affected besides me:
Scooby903 lost almost 10k PXCs https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270170.msg3123707#msg3123707
gica_contra lost 7 bucks worth of PXCs https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270170.msg3105158#msg3105158
ByeByeCoins who can be found in Coins-E chatbox says he lost 2.1k PXCs besides 65 TRC
BitJohn says a lot of other users and other coins are also affected  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=270170.msg3139576#msg3139576

If you are also affected please post here; so that we can tally the total amount owed to us by Coins-E. I will keep bumping this thread until Coins-E gives us a valid response. If you are aware of the issues and get irritated by the constant bumpings, then I apologise in advance. I also appreciate the effort put in by BitJohn to resolve this issue; he even went to their chat to get a response.

Scam accusation thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=293661.0

It sucks to lose such a huge amount - don't repeat my mistake. Their is no dearth of exchanges to choose from.

EDIT: Received a reply from them on Sept 15:

Hi,
Sorry for the delayed response. You could check your wallet now. The issue has been resolved. Thank you for your patience.

Of course, nothing actually came into the wallet. I checked the block explorer and still 12k PXC doesn't show up on it (http://explorer.phenixcoin.com/a/PiKzgFoHJd). I don't understand whether they are really really dumb or just trolling me :(

Would have been easier if they just told me they stole my coins. At least I won't have any hopes then (not that I have much anyways).

No surprise there... They are JUNK!

Hope they will be fair and return coins they took. Credibility is easily lost, and priceless...

Same thing will happen with lebowski. They have likely been operating on a forked chain for about 20,000 Blocks or about 25% of the blockchain. They wont answer any attempts to contact

It sounds worse than I thought. Byebyecoins reckons the exchange is just running on its own after the developer left. So once all the forked LBWs are sold and BTC withdrawn there may not be enough funds to reimburse all. Withdraw ASAP.

I was not aware of the dev leaving...makes my faith that things will get resolved a little shaky  :-\

Hmmm....just tried to withdraw 7K of valuecoins but get an 'invalid address' error. Created a brand new receive address and get the same error. Alarm bells ringing....

Congrats.

I had withdrawn whatever little was left. Lost at least a quarter BTC in the mess. Sucks :(

just an fyi, no matter how many e-mails you get from customer service, if your account is all the sudden missing coins your probably not going to get them back. also, had the same issue with their chat, all I heard was how good of an exchange they are, how no one has ever been ripped off, ect.  ect. deposited btc, showed up in transactions and not my account, said they fixed it, over a month ago and never did get the btc I deposited.

Here's the chains I actually managed to withdraw on, use at your own risk:
Worked for me:
BQC, IFC, RED, WDC

Did not work:
ORB

Not expected to work but did not try:
SBC

edit: Switched WDC to worked, I just looked in the wrong place for the deposit.
Good luck & see you in a better trollbox everyone :)

They did however respond to another question re listing a new coin lol

Edit: They just replied asking me to try again, saying they will process the withdrawal manually if it doesnt work.

A bit more effort to give back the coins that are due, more like.

There is a very good chance just stealing our coins. Why keep silent otherwise?

Hopefully this is resolved.

Heh indeed. I actually dropped by in chat and found those two. Now I have taken up residence there and scaring away everybody ;D

I doubt this will be resolved; especially since they are blatantly claiming that it is resolved.

Yes, the latter is not always the best indicator. I am keeping a six foot pole between myself and the current shady exchange goings on with more than just Coins-E.

Coins-e always struck me as a get-rich-quick scheme for the dev, it was always the first to collect any bounty for a new coin being listed on an exchange, without discrimination. Dodgy.

Anyways, have mailed them 4 times already and he has mailed too on my half. Really don't get why they are lying. I mean everybody can see on the block explorer that they are lying.

If they are stealing now, it is really stupid, the long run is always more profitable.
Criminals usually are stupid.
But it is sad to loose this exchange trust.
I liked it. RIP.

No, but I am not giving up. I am camping in their chatbox informing everybody. Somebody nicknamed 'gollum' turned up today and claimed his deposit of 120 odd XPMs hasn't showed up. I pointed him to this thread so hopefully he will post here and inform us whether his problems got solved or not.

Has anyone's problems got solved? What about Oldminer? He had received some reply from them.

I don't have a ton invested, but I still want my coins!  Either they are scamming us, or they are too stupid to figure out how to update their client.  This shit is ridiculous...

I have been waiting since Sept. 4th and still nothing

i had my hopes up for this exchange, mainly due to their support of all the coins that i could not trade anywhere else....

but there was this issue...

GLC_BTC   Sell   30-Jun-13 01:54:58   0.00000850   5000.00000000   5000.00000000   0.00000000   Rate limited

these "rate limited" trades had been resolved a few times by their support.. but one still remains a mystery....

my balance shows 5000 glc in pending... trade can not be cancelled, and they have seem to think they fixed all my "rate limited" issues.

And WTF is "rate limited" doing on an exchange anyways???? with any other exchange you can put bids in of any amount high or low no matter how ridiculous the "rate" is....

I also tried to do a co op advertising with them... they probably got plenty of hits from my pages... and they never returned the favor of advertising my sites. i think i only have their advert left on my block explorers... i guess ill be taking those down too...

maybe the dev was just a nub... and could not handle the project... i get the impression that exchange is a one man team....

im almost leaning towards the "nub dev" idea, or just a one team not big enough to keep up with everything... if its just a one man team than i could understand that he / she would be very swamped with requests...

it looks like people are still trading there.. has anyone had any problems lately or did coins-e get their ducks in a row yet? if they get their stuffs fixed they still owe me some co op advertising  :D

Title: Re: Beware of Coins-E - they are stealing coins from the users
Post by: bholzer on September 20, 2013, 04:08:45 PM
I think the issue here is negligence and not outright fraud. I just withdrew 1 BTC from Coins-E and everything completed without a hitch. However, when I tried to withdraw ~800 Elephantcoins (embarassed to even admit I own these -- yes, I was naive at one point too) I never got the confirmation Email. After about 4 attempts...the Email came through and the withdraw request was processed. Thank God I didn't lose my 20 cents worth of Elephantcoins  :D

I just have a hard time believing they'd want to steal a bunch of random coins...while still allowing people to withdraw BTC. I guess if you're in a rush to pull out of Coins-E...I would suggest trying to trade in your coins for BTC first if you can get a fair price.

There is definitely an issue here...and I would urge everybody to avoid depositing anything into Coins-E...but I'm not prepared to accuse them of outright fraud just yet. Hopefully they get their act together. When they randomly add every coin that is requested to their exchange for a small bribe, it becomes a maintenance nightmare for an exchange. Perhaps this is a good example why it's important to have some integrity and quality control in an exchange. More != better.

I'm sure many of their coin clients are severely out of date...and I know for a fact that they aren't even on the right chains for many of their coins. Just don't trade there until further notice. Hopefully everybody gets their coins back...

Par for the course for them really. After I started hanging out in their chatbox warning unsuspecting clients; I also found a few who have been dropping by with the same complaints - missing coins and unresponsive support. I wish this had more publicity - lot of users are losing out there.

So is it a scam or not?
People have been losing money and none of the issues have been solved. I was initially banking on them to being stupid; but then their reply saying that they have paid me back and the subsequent silence for 7 days kind of seems to me they are stealing.

Eitherway, quite a few people have lost their coins there, and they not don't fix it; they don't put out any sort of warning. So, its a moot point really whether they are scammers or lying idiots.

I'm going to be removing the link to Coins-E that we have on CryptoNerd (http://www.cryptonerd.co). Until Coins-E can show they care about their users, and until they address the problems I'm hearing here, the link will remain off my site.

I had hopes that Coins-E was going to be more than what it's appearing to be right now. :(

to anyone trying to withdraw here is the best solution afaik

visit the site and login.

If the coin is maintenence then:

append the coin to this link to view the page: https://www.coins-e.com/exchange/<coin>_BTC/

e.g. https://www.coins-e.com/exchange/ORB_BTC/

place trades at market price and withdraw BTC

*no guarantee of success :P

it just worked for  me to sell my ORB, GLC and RED and withdraw the new BTC to another exchange :D

I did not see this thread and send to coin-s yestarday 249.9 WDC . Other WDCs that I sent do another exchange , arrived for 1 hour  ,

but this at coins-e after 24 hours already stays  as pending and not confirmed so I can trade it , can withdraw it , nothing.

Besides that , I have a transfer made almost a moth ago for 120.61662652 SPT  , and it also stays as not confimed .

I wrote at "contacts us" with subject assistance , and no answer.

Did I loose my coins  ? Can you advice me what to do ?

The exchange function well till now , I can't belive that they simply decided to run away with people's coins.

They updated their PXC wallet but still didn't send me those 12k PXCs. Instead, they said to check my wallet  ::)

I doubt anybody has their problem solved. Once you are stuck, you lose.

You have lost the coins, mate. Just read through the thread and you will see thats how it works at coins-e land.

I should have kept bumping this thread.

Coins-e won't respond. All those who have lost - hard luck. The rest, get out before you lose everything.

BTC withdrawl is supposedly working fine. If you try withdrawing other coins, send a small test amount first.

Operations on Coins-E I've tried yesterday & today:

Trading activity in general seems to work as expected, but some exchange rates are very much off the market due to bugs.

deposit BTC : works
deposit LTC : works

withdraw BTC: works
withdraw LTC: works
withdraw PXC: works
withdraw RED: works

withdraw IFC: error "Invalid address provided, Please check the address.", nothing is sent
withdraw KGC: error "Invalid address provided, Please check the address.", nothing is sent
withdraw XEN: error "Invalid address provided, Please check the address.", nothing is sent

withdraw DGC: you can confirm and they are flagged as sent but they have not arrived after 1 day. CAREFUL!
withdraw NVC: you can confirm and they are flagged as sent but they have not arrived after 1 day. CAREFUL!

After seeing this thread 3 or 4 days ago I withdrew my full balances.  My transfers of BTC, XPM, and QRK were all instant, in amounts greater than 1 BTC of each.

Since they have so little volume, and very high sell offers and very low buy offers, I don't see any valid reason to risk keeping coins on the exchange, at present.

Not me.

Seems its phase 2 of their plan. Restart saying they are under 'new management'. Work fine for a few days, take the coins again and run. Rinse and repeat.

Isn't it suspicious that a exchange trading alts has avoided this board?

Open a new first time coins-e account 14 hours ago and transfered 129k dogecoin.  Still not showing, not pending, waiting confirmation, nada! Dogechain shows the transaction confirmed and sitting there in the deposit account address they generated for my account.

Had heard a rumour they are on the wrong Doge blockchain fork since the split on Sunday so maybe my coins are sent to an address in the void of the wrong fork!?

Submitted a ticket. One thing I thought Cryptsy where crap taking 800+ confimations for Doge a few weeks ago but at least after 10 confirms the coins there show as pending even if the take 10 hours to reach the account to trade.

Yesterday eve (UK time) Doge got moved in to their 'Under Maintenance'. This morning (again uk time) Doge has been completely removed from the site.

My guess is that they were having so many problems with it & complaints, they have just removed it. Guess we won't be seeing the coins again.

It was suggested on another thread that the site is on autopilot. I think there must be someone there to have removed Doge.

They're on the list, under the "coins under maintenance" heading. And my deposit has just moved to the "confirmed" column, so they probably are still catching up on blocks or something.

Yeah, just noticed that.

They have now moved it out from Under Maintenance in to the full list and issued a tweet saying problems resolved.

I expect exchanges to have problems, but they should have had a notice up saying they were having them and the expected outcome. It's the not knowing that does that harm !!

mine are still in waiting confirmation so fingers crossed

I have sent 400k dogecoins to Coins-E on Jan 7; but it is still showing as unconfirmed as well. Raised support tickets with no response back.

More alarmingly, until yesterday the transaction only showed "Not redeemed" for the amount I sent. Now the dogechain is showing the coins I transferred have been moved to a different wallet first (http://dogechain.info/address/DLBrrdzzH8B2V5QgrUTmiwoBw9mYtQxbH7 - this is with a balance of 296m doges) with the rest of the balance then distributed to a series of smaller wallets. I am guessing this means the coins are stolen and added to personal hoard of the operator. I have a slim hope this may the normal way they are handling deposits but probably not hey?

Title: Re: Beware of Coins-E - they are stealing coins from the users
Post by: mahmut on January 10, 2014, 02:43:18 PM
Also, the page that can be used to track transactions used to display 0 confirmations, please wait. Now it displays an error message "Tracking DOGE deposit. Please check the transaction id you provided. If problem persists please contact support."

I have still have a bit of hope I can get the doge's back but at this stage it looks like very stealing much bad...

I have the same problem mahmut. I sent a 300k deposit, and looking at blockchain I see the money first has been received, then transferred out. The Coins-E web site shows no transactions at all.

If you look at the transfer out to DLBrrdzzH8B2V5QgrUTmiwoBw9mYtQxbH7 , the output is showing "Not yet redeemed" - anyone have any idea what that means?

Fair enough - quite disappointing to lose money to a scam but should have done my homework instead of just rushing in.

According to a thread in reddit the owner of the site is from Canada developing bitcoin ATMs now visiting India - so perhaps this is a case of a one-man web site whose owner is not able/willing to respond to requests?

This thread I mentioned also includes what appears to be the real name of the site owner with personal website/twitter account also identified; however I am a bit reluctant to repeat these details since there is no confirmation of this. Anyway however is interested can look it up and try to contact either this person, the company he works in or the authorities.

I have decided to wait for a bit more until I escalate this further.

That was stupid... Both I and others have mentioned and documented Coins E scam and fraud many times.

Chances are unfortunately your coins are lost, together with both mine and others too.

I hope however that Coins-E turns out to fix their issues and keep running their website as a legit business.

Before I did not know. Many people continue to trade on this site, without knowing.
I immediately withdrew all my bitcoins, no problem.

I finally got my DOGEs today after 10 days. It seems like they got it fixed you just have to manually check it in the deposit page.

Looks like mine might be going through too at last.

So looks like they were not out to scam, but why the hell could they have not put a message up saying they had issues and it was being resolved.

It's done them a lot of damage by not communicating with their users.

They responded to my second ticket after 5 days.

Hi lyon42,

We deeply apologize for the delay on the dogecoin deposits. There was a software bug with dogecoin and we were forced to re-issue deposit addresses to all our users. We are now recovering all the coins sent to the old deposit addresses and this is a time consuming process. We hope you understand.
We have now resolved the issue. Your funds have been credited to your account. Please check your wallet. If you still may have issues, contact us with your transaction id.
Thank you.

All my DOGE are reflecting ! \o/

Still care with them.

I received mine today as well 278000 :)

I withdrew them all to my local wallet (they are received and secured now) I then tried for fun depositing 10 doges again, but they aren't redeemed yet - so I guess Coins-E still has some problems with synchronization.

I'm very pleased and hope that Coins-E just is having troubles with the tech stuff and nothing else.

An update from me as well: Got an email explaining this was due to a bug which is now resolved on 20 Jan. Immediately logged in and sure enough my dogecoins were confirmed and in the account. I withdrew all of them immediately.

In this particular case this issue appears to be due to completely and utterly unacceptable lack of communications. My support tickets are still open with not response.

There are also still others receiving no response to their PXT deposit/eswithdrawal issu.

Hope everyone who comes across this thread will understand this company cannot be trusted with your money. Never doing business with them again.

Is there anybody having issues with FRK deposit on coins-e? DOGE works for now, ELC and BTC too, but my frankos got stuck somewhere although the Tx is confirmed and frankos received in the block explorer. Ticket is being processed for 3 days and still no answer.
FRK not listed as Under maintenance on coins-e but don't work, be careful with your funds.

Man, this exchange is terrible. Not only does it look terrible, barely usable, but I too cannot withdraw my coins due to the invalid address issue (for a perfectly valid address).

Also most of my coin deposits were getting stuck, so I had to manually paste the transaction into the site for it to synchronise. This seemed to work.

anyway to get my 579~k of imperialcoin back?  like your coin address, mine is definitely valid but whenever I input it, coins-e tells me that its invalid.  Im just wondering if you ever got your issue resolved, and how? Whenever i try to withdraw i get an invalid address error.  Ive tried emailing them, ive opened up a support ticket about two weeks ago, and nothing, and I just came upon this forum, and man, I wish i'd added the deposit to cryptopia instead...
