Title: How do I participate in an ICO?
Post by: schupp on March 07, 2018, 04:13:36 PM
I am an absolute beginner in investing in Bitcoin and alternative Coins, but I found an ICO that sounds interesting for me. It's about the Cultural Coin, I guess one of the first cryptocurrencies here in Austria: https://www.culturalplaces.com

There are only 4 days left for Phase 1 of the ICO and I'm interested in participating. Do you have any advice and tips for me?

To participate in an ICO, you need cryptocurrencies, usually Ether or Bitcoin. You cannot participate in an ICO with fiat currency. If you don’t own cryptocurrency, you will first need to buy some. The best way to purchase significant amounts of Bitcoin is through online exchanges. Transfer money from your bank account to your newly created account with a cryptocurrency exchange.Transfer your Coins from the Exchange to a Blockchain Wallet you Control. Then go to  https://www.culturalplaces.com or any other desired ICO offering sites and contribute.

ORayjA0's explanation is on the point and explains everything re: the process itself. :)

If you just found out about the project i would just advise you to read the Whitepaper first:
https://www.culturalplaces.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/CulturalPlaces_Whitepaper.pdf?x46035

Otherwise..the ICO is split into several different phases and each one offers different conditions for buying coins.

From the observation I joined the ICO is not always profitable even not a few who suffered losses because choose the wrong ICO. Of course, before joining ICO we have to look at the planing of the company that held ICO, and when we have decided to buy ICO tokens, of course we have to wait for the Token has a more expensive price than ICO, because at the beginning of the token launch usually a decrease in the price of tokens even exceed ICO prices.

thank you

Most large ICOs are currently conducted on the Ethereum platform and, accordingly, raise funds in ETH, so first of all you must purchase the air. You can do this by converting other crypto-currencies in ETH through the exchange, and then send your crypto-currencies to any ethereal purse that supports ERC20 tokens.

Yes, you are correct - the earlier the better for your purse...AFTER checking if the offer is legit. Re: the Cultural Coin, you should be fine. Whitepapers are usually a good way to find out which companies and projects are serious. Ofc all of us want to make smart decisions, haha and the market is atm booming. ;)

Read often the announcement thread for altcoin. Alternatively you can join forums that discuss ico on telegrams, check ICO calenders and follow some rating spreadsheet. It might demand some document base on the project for ICO registration but be careful of scammers

Heading to your question, you can find an instruction on how to participate on ICO directly at their site. On the site you have mentioned just clicked "Participate Now" and follow instructions. Same goes to other ICO.

My advice, be sure to understand the risks of investing on ICO before throwing away money. Be vigilant when choosing a project or if you don't know what you are really doing then better refrain from investing for the meantime until you become educated about how ICO works.

Here is an ICO project I believe in. Their aim is to bring the masses into crypto which will benefit us all. As many other most reputable ICO's you would need to buy Ether first as they accept Eth as they are an ERC 20 token.

Participating in ICo is not always profitable.

Yeah, not all of them, i give you that - but it also depends on the available bounties, the long-term stability and the broader acceptance of the project itself. After all, besides Bitcoin, many projects (like this cultural coin schupp asked about) are created to find specific solutions for existing problems. ;)

Thank you, that was very helpful for me! On the homepage of Cultural Places I found some helpful information for people like me who have never taken part in an ICO before. There is a very good step by step explanation beginning from how to get Ether and an Ethereum Wallet. I think this could also be helpful for beginners who are generally interested in ICOs

That's actually the point why I believe that the Cultural Coin is going to be sucessful. Because it is creating a solution for the cultural sector so that prices for customers will get cheaper and also the providers will get more, because there is no more need for ticketing agencys.

There are ICOs that allow or accept fiat too. I have invested in a few of those and you just pay direct from your bank in FIAT

As another poster said, you'll need some crypto, most likely ETH. You can purchase some using an exchange. Learn about what a crypto transaction entails, I highly suggest you take the tutorial for the exchange you decide on. It's important to take these steps because you will be sending your eth to the ICO's wallet address. It'll be one of the first transactions you take part in. Note, however, that you will most likely not receive your ICO tokens immediately after your payment as it usually takes up until the public sale is closed for ICO's to distribute tokens to investors. There should be some sort of disclosure of this in a confirmation email. We cover everything you need to know about participating in an ICO in our blog, check it out if you want to learn more! http://[Suspicious link removed]/ICOGuide

Cheers!

One important tip is to always read the whitepaper.  Details are important so take time to carefully go through the information of the ICO.  Do some background checking as well among your network and/or other ICO relevant sites.  Here's also a good article that helps you identify a scam ICO:  http://strategiccoin.com/3-ways-to-identify-an-ico-scam/

Good luck!

you need to learn that ico on the media as faceboook, twitter, telegram ... to update the latest information about the ico and the bonus. join the telegram to chat and asked to probe investment approach. of course for eth is to be prepared before that!

You just have to choose which ICO you want to participate in. Make sure you study everything about it, and learn important details you needed to know before you jump into that. And once you're sure and confident about it, you can signup to their website and read all details on their ICO.

As I see, a lot of people have given you advice on how to find a good ICO so I'm not gonna go through that right now.
To participate in most ICOs (erc20 tokens) you need an Etherum Wallet and a Metamask Installed. Please look up how to use Metamask since I can't share links here.

I personally have not done any research on this ICO, but before you invest on any ICO I would recommend that you go to ICOBench and look for the ICO that you want to invest in. Take a look at its rating and the rating of ICO experts. It is the easiest way to determine whether an ICO has potential or not, because the ICO experts that rate ICOs on ICOBench usually go into a deep research of the team, vision and product of the ICO. Other than that, you can also look for reviews on Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc. and most importantly their ANN thread on Bitcointalk.

Transparency is one of those things which are really important to me. I want to get the feeling that the company openly shares their info and that their website is well structured and provides all the most important information. I also try to find the team members on Linkedin and check their profiles. For questions you have the cultural places telegram chat is probably best. And definitely check out these independent review websites and make sure you understand the criteria they are reviewing with. When will your project hit the exchanges?

About the "how to", that's in general quite easy, moreover if you already have some crypto in your wallets.
Almost all the ICOs accept BTC and ETH. If you own other altcoins, you can convert them on exchanges, or using a service like changelly. Actually, even the conversion from fiat is not that different.
Not sure I'm allowed to post a link (so I won't), but I have a youtube channel (CryptoHunters ICO) where I collected many useful videos about this topic.

The real issue is anyway about the "which  one". My suggestion is always the same in this case.
Only invest an amount of money you can "comfortably" afford to lose and if you can, do not put your money on just one ICO. The risk of losing your investment is lower if you spread it across several projects.

There are also strategies about how to select the best ICOs. It also depends on your expected ROI and/or investment timeframe.

Very good point which has not been mentioned yet I think. From what I saw you need ETH for your project which you need to buy first. After that is done, you can buy cultural coins with ETH. But you will find plenty of info on that on the website. If all fails though and you have questions, you should really opt for the Telegram chat - I think these are normally really good.

I see your question has been well answered already by many before me. Just wanted to state the obvious(to myself at least) and mention for you to REALLY study the project ICO and take everything into consideration before you do try investing. Don't expect any ICO to be profitable(if that's what you are in it for). You want something you genuinely want to support and see thriving in the future thanks to your support, if it's supported massively and pulls through, you will see those financial gains as an added bonus thanks to increase of token/coin value. Hope this is helpful.

first, you must regesiter a whitelist in the ico website.

At the end, you must wait the token list unlock and list on the exchange.   :) :)

Each ICO has instructions well spelt out for the intending investors and it varies across projects. I suggest you read all about the project you want to invest in. You will see the acceptable cryptocurrencies to purchase the coin and the compatible wallets through which you can receive your coins. Please do proper check because there are scams.

I agree, I wouldnt expect to make loads of money but rather feel like I want to support the project. Only put as much in as you feel entirely comfortable with.

I understand, they want to make a platform for travelers who study cultural objects. Why is there blockchain? Why can not do without it?

I browsed through their whitepaper and from what I understood they want to offer crowdfunding solutions for artists and make ticketing for cultural institutions and events more transparent. And thats basically the concept of crypto in general, isnt it? Making transactions more transparent and getting rid of the middleman (institution). Not sure how exactly this would work though, I suppose they need quite a big list of institutions?

Not meant as advice, but I noticed too many new poeple diving right into ICo's. I know you want in early but make sure the ICO covers all of the criteria at least first. Make sure the team is real at least first. Where are they located? What is their coin useful for? I don't know about that Culture coin but it looks kinda cheap to me. Crappy website. And that kid is how old? Will they act like business men when they get those millions? I wouldn't go all in, that's for sure. I have a friend that invested in CDX. It looked legitimate. Now, it's over and they are a dead coind. No volume. He only invested a grand so he's not to upset becuase he also put 10 grand in substratum SUB ICO and you can see he's doing very well on that one.

To begin, you should buy some cryptos like ETC or BTC to change them for interested tokens. Of course, the main thing for successful activity is information. You should analyze different projects by yourself or buy info in some companies which wor in this sphere.

So I've read most of the post in this thread and as a beginner I have a question.
I understand that there are no guarantees that the coin is gonna be profitable after ICO and that the main thing to do before investing is to investigate everything about the project. Some even say that the main thing to look at is the whitepaper and if it's bad than you shouldn't invest.
My question is how do you know if whitepaper is good?

Why not read the instructions posted on the site of this ICO?  Just follow a link on the top of the participation form "Never participated in an ICO? Get Information here" -> https://www.culturalplaces.com/how-to-participate-in-the-ico/ and you will get answers on all possible questions:

1. Get your own Ethereum wallet, get Ether, see your address
2. Get whitelisted, unlock your Ethereum Wallet
3. Contrubute and receive Cultural Coins after ICO

I hate ico,it makes me sad when i lose my money

With 85% of ICOs returning absolutely nothing to investors except tears, I don't understand how anyone could possibly think taking part in an ICO at this point in time would be anything other than throwing their money away.

Check the date of the ICO.
Do proper due diligence/research.
Participate (some of them offer free tokens, so you might not need an initial investment).
Avoid the scammy ICOs !!!
Don't invest too much!

 ;)

Good luck!
