Title: Can Governments Kill Bitcoin?
Post by: totol05 on March 10, 2018, 01:35:22 AM
The latest news is that the US government is look closely at Bitcoin. A number of governments such as Russia and China are also planning to issue their own digital currencies. They clearly see a financial threat from Bitcoin.

What do you think? Can governments kill Bitcoin and replace it with their own digital/crypto currency?

It is indeed the future plan of big countries such as china, Russia, America to create their own digital currency, but that I believe will not be able to stop bitcoin currency, because bitcoin is already owned and spread all over the world.

Speculation is after all speculation, but unless the government offer an improvement on Bitcoin then why would this be a threat to Bitcoin? If it's improved on Bitcoin then why would we be hostile to this crypocurrency? If the government came out with an improved cryptocurrency which was open source and decentralized then I for one welcome the change. Would probably change my mind of the way governments think if they actually did this. If it's not decentralized or open source then it should fail.

Yes government can kill bitcoin in the way how they want to do it for example if there no more people who are appreciating bitcoin they can kill it easily

How can they kill Bitcoin "easily", why haven't they done it already if this was indeed the case? Bitcoin is decentralized and has a format to prevent any manipulation from a central figure. Only certain aspects of mining is somewhat centralized.  Trust me if it was so easy to 'kill' Bitcoin then it would of likely been done already. I mean it's had several attempts on it, but as of today all have failed.

No they cannot kill something that is not alive, they can only put curbs on it, which as we have seen are a waste way of doing things, China tried it last year Bitcoins tanked and soon it shot up like anything. Bitcoin answers to no one and is not bound by limitation as it has no controlling authority. Let them ban it, we'll only indulge in it more, plus their coins will be a alts I don't buy alts, so no the government won't succeed for sure.

The government may limit the development of Bitcoin, but believe that the government cannot stop Bitcoin. The development of Bitcoin itself is not controlled by any organization.

This is an interesting topic. How do they kill Bitcoin? Even if it introduces its own cryptocurrency, it needs to be based on Bitcoin. If it is not a blockchain technical currency, then what is the difference between the digital currency and the legal currency? The coin is the door that they can't go around. They need to acknowledge the door before they can come.

If government kill and stop bitcoin operation, it is something a war between government and bitcoin, because many people against government decisions if they try to kill bitcoin operation. And we all know that government has the power to kill bitcoin operation, and hopelly government would not be able to do that kind of actions.

I agree that bitcoin is spread all over the world and no other country can kill bitcoin exept if they ban bitcoin in their country. Eventhough other country has their own digital currency, bitcoin is the most common used currency all over the world.

Yes this is possible if the world government take their actions to totally banned bitcoin because they want to create their own crypto currency and monitor who is the holder of the currency they are making today. this will definitely kill bitcoin.

As what others said bitcoin can't be removed/killed. Some countries already banned bitcoin but the demand is still high and even if it's banned in all countries there's no stopping people in using bitcoin. Maybe if they could make a better version of bitcoin without the need of the internet but I highly doubt that such thing could happen because it would take a lot of time before any newly made crypto could compete with other altcoin and eventually take out bitcoin from its current position.

I think yes, there is a possibilty that bitcoin can be killed or stop by the government specially when they unites. Bitcoin and its technology is a innovative financial system which is more efficient than the banking system we have right now, just so happen that banks is being controlled by the government. What can government do is putting an external power to bitcoin which their people will not able to use bitcoin.

No, bitcoin is international currency. Its advantage is the decentralization, those governments will only bring more positive impact for bitcoin. Indirectly those governments are agree that bitcoin is good technology or atleast the idea of digital currency is appropriate for this century.

In fact, it is very easy for the government to eliminate Bitcoin! Close all trading institutions including exchanges and wallets. Fully block the wording of Bitcoin above the search engine and the rest of the Lenovo extensions of Bitcoin

killing bitcoin is not difficult for the government, close all exhanger, block all sites related to Bitcoin. and turn off internet searches against Bitcoin. but I do not think that will happen, if a country will spend its own digital money. bitcoin will keep running as usual, coupled with other digital money.

If they tell others that they should choose their tokens instead of Bitcoin, what advantages they have compared to Bitcoin, if they can't trade anonymously and they are similar to French coins, then we might as well use legal currency.

They cannot kill bitcoin however banning them in their country could somehow affect the economy of bitcoin community since banning it would result to decrease in users meaning less demand and if the demand decrease its price will decrease also. I don't think bitcoin will be gone because I believe it is strong and many people who are into cryptos are still holding bitcoin besides bitcoin was the only digital currency that has managed to get accepted widely as payment method in any kind of transactions in most countries.

I think you are wrong address and ask in this forum
I do not know if you are really a newbie or just want to lead to panic because the situation is right for now. but believe me, what you say is not true. and to date all of that is still a rumor. nothing really happened. and bitcoin can never be killed by all countries. you can see that bitcoin is still very popular right now even though its value goes down but that does not matter everything will get back to normal.

There is no point for governments to be trying to introduce their own cryptos, most of them would do just fine maintaining the current scheme they have set out right now. If they look into making cryptos then they might as well just be switching their entire monetary system to cryptos since they already operate what is pretty damn close to cryptos already, minus some of the special features. There's a lot of things that wouldn't make sense in a situation like this.

At this moment, there is nothing the government can do with bitcoin so they can't kill it "easily" like you said. Bitcoin has been used in some countries already. That is a proof that bitcoin is being used already in some countries. Yes there are some countries who banned bitcoin but who cares. We can just use bitcoin because its decentralized.

I believe attempting to kill bitcoin by developing their own cryptocurrency will only make bitcoin stronger. Developing their sends a message that it is threatened by it, and will only end up imitating it. And again, just like many others that imitate it, they failed, and made bitcoin stronger than ever.
Well it's just my assessment though.

I believe competition is the 'soul' of business. If governments intend to introduce their own digital currency, I think it will be even good. This will make the market more open and no one coin would be a super dominating coin. The government would always try to create more patronage within her citizen and beyond and that will give more room for growth and acceptance of digital currency.

I like the idea because it will end in creating more awareness of cryptocurrency and bitcoin particularly.

Governments are absolutely against digital money.

Governments make money through taxes and commissions.

However, thanks to the digital money, we can send money to the desired country without commission.

The banks are not sending money at weekends. With digital money, we can make the time we want when we want it.

Bitcoin can not be completely banned, I think so. It's like the Internet, it's impossible to forbid it either. The fact is that bitcoin is decentralized. This means that he does not have a single control center. It is controlled by software from many different locations around the world.

Governments can effectively push BTC to the underground. They can regulate it in a way that no one in the main stream will be able to use it, and as a result it will, for all intents and purposes, be dead as the future of money. We have seen several countries already start down this path.

No,they.cant.. People who currently possessed bitcoins right now are from different parts of the world. So,how can they kill bitcoins like that? They only have the power to ban bitcoin or regulate it on their country.  But for now,the chances that they will kill bitcoin is next to impossible. No. US and China is not the country in the world. There are more countries in the planeteearth. Two is better than one but in bitcoin two's is not enough to kill bitcoin. Government can stop it if let the world form an office for cryptocurrency to just stop it. That will be their goal by creating the office to let bitcoin be killed. Without like that kind of strategic plan it couldn't kill bitcoin. No one can stop it unless everybody is against to it. While everyone is not against bitcoin will  remain.

That would be too daunting a task to do. It's hard to kill bitcoin, cause that would mean stopping the overwhelmingly strong community that supports bitcoin, globally.
And introducing their own respective cryptos would only serve to make bitcoin stronger.
Even now bitcoin is growing.

They make incredible money thanks to taxes and commissions. The coin market is following the obstacles because it prevents it.

I do not have much hope. There will be no beautiful things like the old.

Bitcoin is a famously dececentralized cryptocurrency, a system of storing value, and a somewhat less-effective transaction medium. It allows near-instantaneous transfers all over the world without a middle man or regulatory body giving it the go-ahead. Fans of cryptocurrency fear government regulation could ruin it, but they shouldn’t be concerned. Any attempt control bitcoin simply won’t work.

Beyond the difficulties presented by the decentralization of bitcoin itself, governments and regulatory bodies have shown they lack understanding of technological topics, and bitcoin is one of the most complex. As governments struggle to ban technologies like Tor and encryption, it seems impossible to imagine them gaining the ability to truly impact bitcoin – and its alt-coin contemporaries – in a way that could impede its progress.

Government can kill Bitcoin as a moderately popular subject. In terms of currency or means of payment, most countries do not accept virtual currency as the currency or means of payment, for two main reasons.
First, if it is accepted as currency, as a legal means of payment, the national sovereignty over the currency issue is infringed.
Second, virtual currency is accepted will facilitate tax evasion, illegal remittance, payment
Similarly some cases are no exception, have counted on the use of digital money to trade illegal transactions, if the state prosecuted by the state, then I take a bitcoin is likely to be destroyed by the government and not for use nationwide,

If the government really wants to prohibit Bitcoin, Bitcoin will not develop. However, Bitcoin has been active, indicating that the existence of Bitcoin can, to a certain extent, promote the economic development of a country.

It is quite possible that this is a conspiracy because they cannot control bitcoin, and why it is not necessary to develop bitcoin that has matured and then redevelop a new cryptocurrency. It can only be said that the government has already felt Bitcoin’s Threatened.

na! I don't think that any right minded govt will do that... instead they will try to adapt the tech for streamlining their own business affairs on how to run the govt more efficiently...

And I no where see it a threat to the Govt or matter of fact for banks also its not a threat. example is of Ripple. which is helping banks to have another feature or channel in payment settlement.

The govt would like to regulate and thats good thing as it will bring more transparency and safety for people funds; and more people can then invest.  Even big Investors will then take BTC seriously...

I think when the government tried to cooperate with cryptocurrency. surely they want full control of cryptocurrency, user data, their money amount and so on. so there is no decentralization in cryptocurrency again, because this is a lot of users are still cons and the government also seems still confused how to control cryptocurrency, so all they can do is threat to bitcoin

Governments cannot kill Bitcoin because the latter is independent of them. At best, they can only regulate it but still to only a certain extent.

You should know that Bitcoin knows no boundaries nor territories. It was created to substantially address the issue on borders, bank and government requirements, privacy, among others. Hence, even with the issuance of digital currencies by governments worldwide, it cannot affect Bitcoin because the former is one that is regulated by central banks. Meaning, all transactions are carefully monitored because it is expected to be transparent for the greater good and thereby subject to the lawful order of governments. While in Bitcoin, it is the opposite for some obvious reasons. Its transactions can hardly be regulated because it utilizes blockchain technology that is heavily encrypted. Thus, it is not transparent. More so, those who deal with Bitcoins cannot be identified because they are given leeway to use pseudonyms.

So you see, how can digital currencies kill Bitcoin when both have different offers?

Market places is important for the reach the all country people. But bitcoin price is any time to change. So it not easy to guess the price. In theory, the government can do that. but do they need it? Yes, some are trying to release their own cryptocurrency, but you need to understand that it will not be as popular as bitcoin. It is more profitable for the government to tax income than to ban it.

Of course, government can kill bitcoin because they are the one who hold a country, they are the one who controls the people and also they are the one who implement laws. Once that they command people to stop using the internet then there will be no usage of it, if they demanded a law ordering to ban bitcoin, then it may happen. A government is strong enough to stop bitcoin because they are the one whom people obeys, they are also the one who can say stop to all the people who are using bitcoin.

Decentralized system used in  it's operation makes it difficult even impossible to kill or ban fully. Mostly people are interested in and support bitcoin strongly including it,s blockchain technology.

They know or might not know who is the owner of bitcoin but the fact is no one is owning bitcoin, bitcoin is being used by people and no one is controlling nor owning them. There is no way that they will "kill" bitcoin even if they ban it since they will only be banning bitcoin in their country unable to use bitcoin in their country but the people there can still use bitcoin online.

Bitcoin and most other crypto currency works using Peer to peer protocol just like how torrents work. Every user has its data and shares it through out the world. No one controls it and is totally decentralized. Even though the government is trying hard to stop piracy by taking down torrent sites, do you think they are being successful? They take it down, and then the site goes back up again in few days. Now compare and think about bitcoin in the same way as torrents.

I think its right, but for me it is possible that they could kill bitcoin. Investors of bitcoin should always open their minds that one of the risk in investing bitcoin is the possibility that there will be an alternative crypto currency that would take the place of bitcoin and make bitcoin an obsolete one. However, we sholud always believe that whatever happens bitcoin should always be the number one crypto currency.

Exactly.I think all they can do is just banning bitcoin and  discouraging people from using bitcoin due to some speculations but i guess it's all useless.Bitcoin cannot be controlled by any supervising agency in the government because of its being decentralized in nature. And the fact that it's giving jobs to all unemployed people will make it very hard for the government to compete with bitcoin or kill bitcoin.

they are very tolerant to bitcoin, if they took hard measures like china did, probably the bitcoin price would be less than  $100, the US has great influence in the world, so I think many countries are not taking hard measures like china and Russia because they follow what the US does. Now it is clear that one must be very careful with Russia and China, people should not go to these countries if it is not a case of extreme urgency because in these two countries freedom of expression, human rights and freedom of the press are not respected, it is not only the bitcoin they want to destroy, but rather the democracy and the rights that their citizens have

No, even if they did a lot of research, they would realize that bitcoin does not pose great dangers, so why ban bitcoin? fiat, gold, oil, diamonds, uranium and so much natural resources and other things are used to hurt other people, it does not make much sense to say "let's ban bitcoin because it's used to commit on crimes" this sounds like a joke

It is indeed a threat. In the a country'view, some transactions need to be tracked, for people 's safety purposes. For example, imagine that an assasination happened. The government caught the hitman and the money he got from the opetation. They want to track it. If it is in bitcoin, they can't. In that case , they will just prohibit it ,or they will just replace it with a new cryptocurrency that can be tracked. Which is different from bitcoin.
That is why i dont think that bitcoin will never lose its popularity facing these kind of problems

There are many other ways as well by countering the people for using the bitcoin, but why would governments do that. In fact, there are a lot of countries where a lot of people are involved in the trade related to the crypto currencies and if the governments are going to do anything against them, then surely they will face the pressure from the public. Like looking at the aspect of BTC's legality, which is often attributed to location or place, in short, in a global context it is both legal and illegal, and in specific place it could be solely legal or illegal. This is the same thing for your query, on a global context it is both thriving and banned, depending on a the place. It will never be banned, not unless the entire Governments that constitute every single nation on the planet, unite and vote together to totally ban the bitcoin. But until that International consensus from all governments it would be impossible to ban or kill the bitcoin, although it might be banned in some nations, not all nations would. so that would depend on a global consensus from all governments, a single government could, but that doesn't mean it  is the case for every single nation.

If the public of a particular state goes in complete favor of bitcoin, the government cannot do the mistake of going against the will of public. That's why the G20 will discuss cryptocurrencies this month. This will result in worldwide regulations and that could be the end of decentralized currencies.

there are lots of countries trying to introduce their virtual currencies. they are also trying to follow the procedure of bitcoin technology. but, i think that this is really impossible to catch the bitcoin market, because, bitcoin is not only exist in some countries but also in all countries and it is same in any place.so there is no barrier and no restriction for transaction. so, its not a financial treat at all, but, bitcoin will be gone high if more currencies come out in crypo world.

I dont think that government can kill bitcoin because bitcoin is not under by the government so they cant control it the reason why they ban bitcoin but still bitcoin is unstoppable because many people are investing on it even though its a little bit risky. They want it to be taxed and we should pay fees and we do not want it to happen because if they take over control, there will be limits then.

The main problem of bitcoin is not the government. There's nothing they can do. The main threat to bitcoin is ourselves. People are so used to using Fiat that they don't want to give up this form of money. They use bitcoin only as a means of accessing Fiat. This is the most vulnerable place in the cryptocurrency. Any touch to the Fiat poisons the mind.

For my opinion, I think no one can kill bitcoin even the government, but everyone may kill bitcoin simply because no one or its not possible to stop producing bitcoin, so if everybody will stop using bitcoin and no one will investing it then bitcoin would be worthless and then bitcoin mining will stop because no more profit is acquired. But its not that easy to happy because we can control all the people who use bitcoin so even if government still not enough to stop it.

We always present governments as some powerful force, but in reality they are just people that work together on the same goal. What can people do? People can do a lot of things together, or they can try to do it, will they be successful depends from many things, many many things. There are ways to kill bitcoin, but in most scenarios that can happen only if all miners and supporters abandon bitcoin, as there is single computer mining and couple people that use it, bitcoin will be alive.
People who are against bitcoin, no matter on which position they are, will try to limit bitcoin, they will propose restrictions, but internet should be a place for all of us, freedom, we will always find a way to continue to use bitcoins, publicly or secretly.
Some governments already have negative attitude, but there are countries open for a future and they accept crypto as technology that can improve many systems.
People talk about bitcoin death, they ask many things about what can kill bitcoin, but these are wrong questions, bitcoin is young, everything just started, its too early to talk about the end. Let's discuss what can we do in our community to rise awareness of crypto, to introduce others with crypto.

As all we know, the power of government on each country dictates the legality of something to become approved or to be accessed by people. Since we are one who witness on how other countries banned bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in their territory, that is how government powerful and can easily erase bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies in their land. But the power is still on people if they will still use it even though it is banned by their government. Government can implement all they want but once that it does not have a great security, a lot of people will still use it.

No one can kill Bitcoin and the usage of Bitcoin. If these countries comes with a new coin released at par with their nations rules and regulations also they should adopt Bitcoin concept with its technology. I don't think they can or they will kill Bitcoin for their existence. May be the can regulate the rules in their country and they cannot own the world to regulate what was fixed in their country.

No government can destroy or defeat Bitcoin all over the country, but the country whose government considers Bitcoin cash illegal. The government of that country can ban Bitcoin. This can lead to their price rate down. This can reduce the bitcoin user. But Bitcoin is a strong and trustworthy platform and it is due to being a digital currency and payment is widely accepted in every country. That's why the government can not completely kill it, it can ban only in your own country.

Bitcoin is well established world wide. As a result, big nations like USA, China, Russia feel jealous towards bitcoin. It is their ego problem. Being decentralized, no government can regulate bitcoin.

The primary idea of Bitcoin and Satoshi Nakamoto was - A Decentralization. That means nobody can take over the control of Bitcoin (any central institution) - banks, governments, unions and so on.  So the idea is that people - POTW (people of the world) gets financial freedom and most important financial power back from central institutions.

Twitter CEO mentioned last day as well, that Bitcoin finally will become only real global currency worldwide.  My personal predictions this will happen between 2025 - 2035, when 2005 - 2010 born generation gets adult.

Next 15 years will be really interesting for Bitcoin and crypto markets. :)

P.s Cryptocurrency markets by 2030 will be between 40 - 60 trillions usd (about 50% of nowadays world assets).

They can't kill bitcoin, it is just like saying that all of the people in any country could be covered by a law prohibiting bitcoin. That is quite impossible, that is why one by one several countries issued a warning and banned bitcoin or other alts. There is a country that created their own crypto backed by petroleum. I think that is petrol if am not mistaken. However, government I think is pretty amazed on how the blockchain work and they are thinking of new way to use or utilize the technology that could benefit their community with a certain rules, policies and laws govern by it.

No! Governments can take steps to eliminate the use of Bitcoin are cryptocurrencies but they cannot Ban it completely unless they Ban the entire internet from the country. The core principle of Bitcoin state that it is a payment system with decentralization so in order to kill Bitcoin, they have to kill each and every record of the same but practically it is impossible. However, government can legally restrict users from purchasing or selling Bitcoins using Fiat currencies.

But I think some government sectors will embrace bitcoin and another cryptocurrency because some cryptocurrency is helping the economy's growth.  :)

So they would have control over their own digital currencies that are not called decentralized that would be the same as fiat money.

2017 will introduce the world into cryptocurrency. Unfortunately, governments around the world are starting to notice this as money starts to flow in. There is no financial regulation in the area of cryptocurrency. However; With the development of the industry, the government has stepped in and tried to provide some oversight for the fragmented market.

In the long run, their regulations will help the development of this space. However, they remain focused on criminal activities surrounding the use of cryptocurrencies and will continue to strengthen control and regulation of virtual currencies in the coming years.

Theory is after all hypothesis, yet unless the administration offer a change on Bitcoin then for what reason would this be a danger to Bitcoin? In the event that it's enhanced Bitcoin then for what reason would we be unfriendly to this crypocurrency? In the event that the legislature turned out with an enhanced cryptographic money which was open source and decentralized then I without a doubt welcome the change. Would most likely alter my opinion of the way governments think on the off chance that they really did this. On the off chance that it's not decentralized or open source then it ought to fizzle.

I believe nothing can kill bitcoin at this point. Governments can ban the bitcoin in their country because they see that bitcoin is a threat to the economy. For example, China issued a bitcoin ban, they wanted to kill bitcoin in their country, but the Chinese government did not do that, because the bitcoin was decentralized and had millions of users and investors. . Since then the government can only issue regulations on bitcoin that can not be completely banned. I hope that in the future the governments of large nations will accept bitcoin and facilitate the development of bitcoin further.

I do not think that China and Russia have seen Bitcoin as a financial threat. Instead, what they are seeing is the subversion and innovation of blockchain technology in the financial sector. The government's issuance of legal digital currency is a recognition of blockchain technology, which does not conflict with Bitcoin. Like the Internet, bitcoin has spread all over the world already. Killing bitcoin can be likened to stopping the internet for just a second, the world over. Can you imagine the chaos? Governments only have the power to reject Bitcoin as a legal tender only within their jurisdiction. Individuals in such countries can still own bitcoin wallets and still trade via offshore accounts. I think the greatest enemy to bitcoin right now is FUD and so many scam ICOs emerging to taint the reputation of cryptocurrencies as a whole.

But not accepting bitcoin is there last chance to stop it because not allowing bitcoin in any country means that it has no value at all because it's useless.

I think government can't kill easily the bitcoin because it is decentralized and no one controls it. It can operate without the government or bank oversight.  Some countries also like from where i came from, made bitcoin legal.

The government will never be able to kill bitcoin because they do not have control over it but people can just kill bitcoin without investing in it and it's going to crash.

Bitcoin is designed to be anonymous and stateless means no government can control it.  It is famously decentralized so everyone in all over the world can use it and could send it anywhere without the middle man or regulatory body giving it the go-ahead. For me personally, i believe it is impossible for them to kill it.

It could be that the government kills bitcoin and creates a new currency. But the new currency will certainly not be the same as bitcoin, in terms of functions and benefits will be different. Not necessarily can benefit users such as bitcoin provides a huge advantage to users. The interest of people who will join is also different, the number of people interested in the new currency is not necessarily as much the interest of people who want to join on bitcoin.

What do you think? Can governments kill Bitcoin and replace it with their own digital/crypto currency?
I think government can do whatever thay want even killing bitcoin or drag it down because government can make a law or policy that bitcoin will not be used to their country, because if something will be threat to a government they can put down just by giving order or to make a law just to put it down.

I think they can since government can regulate how people will be able to convert bitcoin to extent that it can be used in their nation. If they ban bitcoin then it will greatly affect a huge amount of investors thus affecting the market, though of course they would have a hard time regulating bitcoin users but it will surely hit hard the market.

In my own personal opinion, it depends because there are now a lot of countries started making bitcoin legal to them so there are low chances that they could kill bitcoin or cryptocurrencies. But i think the government could run bitcoin if or take over of it, which i would disagree because the government would put a tax and stary corrupting it, so i will not earn the same amount of bitcoin ever again.

of course not. governments cant kill bitcoin because bitcoin is not the same as fiats that they can controll easily. bitcoin is a decentralize currency and it was built online. that simply means it cannot be modified or damaged by anyone even the greatest hackers. governments can only block websites and ban the exchanges offline but not all countries restricts bitcoin. majority of countries are still operating bitcoin , so i guess bitcoin can still developed because many people use it for their daily lifestyle.

Bitcoin will be very difficult, if all countries simultaneously do not accept it. But I do not think so. Bitcoin in particular and Cyptocurrency is an indispensable trend. Too hard to stop Bitcoin.

Not actually. But they can manipulate it in their country by the means of putting some tax to the investors or any holder that has bitcoin and how can they do that?by simply putting some tax when you convert it into fiat. By withdrawing your savings from bank. Its a oppotunity for them to have extra funds.

I think government has the power to control but not to kill bitcoin at all, in fact we hear some news that government are warning people about investing in bitcoin and some other negative comments about bitcoin. Since it is already widespread all over the world and lot of people are engage with it, and lot of people are relying especially those who are unemployed because they got an earning through bitcoin so we can say that government cannot directly kill or stop bitcoin because of the people.
Yes bitcoin is the independent currency and it is not in the control of the government at all. People are investing and making bitcoin high, so I think it will not be ban according to the will of government at all. They will not kill bitcoin because they know that bitcoin will be the future of country people. So no government would ever try to ban or stop the growth of bitcoin in their country, bitcoin is improving day by day with price and value because investors are investing in bitcoin currency, so it is unstoppable investment right now.

Of course, the government has the power, the government has the authority. the government can make rules to ban people playing Bitcoin, they can sanction their people if they violate the rules made. if the government wants to kill Bitcoin, one way I think it's powerful is to block all Internet sites that are related to Bitcoin, then close the existing trading market in that country. then stop the Cryptocurrency activity, and kill Bitcoin.

The main point of the cryptocurrency is that the governments can not control it! Then I see the question: 'Why?' ;D

Yes, Governments have no control over bitcoin. If they had control over it, they had killed it before. Now they are only trying to make some rules. Also, some governments are trying to make the people uninterested in bitcoin. That's all they can do.

that's unlikely to succeed as it would only seem like a stock on the stock market that you invest in because if its government controlled that means it cannot be decentralized and they will of course have measures in place to monitor its growth and also who the owners are thus making it not anonymous. so it would become a regular investment instrument so to answer your question bitcoins cannot be killed or replicated by any government institution as government institutions by there very nature requires checks and balances and some amount of traceability and accountability.

A government of a single nation cannot just make Bitcoin collapsed.  Infact there are countries that banned to trade bitcoin. Even the whole world banned bitcoin.  They cannot stop the blockchain from processing unless they can locate and stop the miners.

Government can not kill what they dont have outright power over. though government has a big roll to play when it comes to policy making in a country but as far as bitcoin is concerned it is a decentralized currency which cannot be only control by a single government. so no country policy can kill the existence of bitcoin the worst a country can do is to ban it from being used in their country and that can not determine in-existence of bitcoin.

Yes but they can somehow make their own private currency.
Have you seen USDT? It is like a currency of the government that doesnt even fluctuate. It is as equal as the USD that is made online.
Some day that token will blow and they will be losing all their money investing with it. They thought they have already escaped the dips. But now they are under the surveillance of the government and anytime they can take it without people knowing they are the one behind it.
It will just be a manner of time.

No, but they are going to try, now they're not going to be able to replace bitcoin with their own crypto currency, what they are going to try to do is to regulate bitcoin to the point where no one will want to go to the trouble of using it, if you do not believe me you only have to look to US citizens which are not accepted in any international banks due to the heavy regulations they are subject from their government.

I don't think the government can kill bitcoin, bitcoin is decentralized, the government can't control bitcoin, so it's hard for the government to kill it. Some countries are issuing their own digital currency because they see the development of the digital currency very well, and they want to gain some revenue from the digital currency.

No, definitely they have authority to kill bitcoins but only in their own country. They can’t just hurt bitcoins over other terrorist or generally as a whole. Reason is, bitcoins are decentralized. No one can even touch them or hurt them if they would be in physical state. So absolutely they can’t make anything harm to bitcoins but in their own country, they can pass a law which sentences all those who uses bitcoins.

There's no way a government can kill bitcoin. It isn't controlled by them and is decentralized meaning no one can control it. Even if the governments come up with their own coins still Bitcoin won't lose its value cause the coins the governments are going to develop are going to be centralized and controlled by the governments while bitcoin will still be decentralized.

yes ofcourse if they wish to they surely can. Its that government can not stop bitcoin from flowing through the private key wallets but they can stop people from using exchanges and all. If they are able to stop these exchanges normal people will get less motivated to use it as it will only be useful as a currency in transferring bitcoins. But governments will not get any merit from doing this thing as all they will kill is their own taxes. Governement cannot kill it but can permanently deplete its value which in itself can be said as killing it.

Obviously it would depend on how bitcoin runs through out the country. Mean while bitcoin is just a digital currency but there are lot of investors would gather to make some effort on giving their time and exchange there savings to have more reliable alt and in return such profit.

bitcoin is the international currency. The advantage is decentralization, the government will only have a positive impact on bitcoin. Indirectly, these governments agree that bitcoin is a good technology or at least the idea of digital currency is appropriate for this century, I think yes, maybe bitcoin can be killed or stopped by the government especially when they are united. Bitcoin and its technology are innovative financial systems that are more efficient than the banking systems we have today, just by coincidence that banks are controlled by the government. What the government can do is put the external forces into bitcoins where its people will not be able to use bitcoin into the next century ...

No The elimination of Bitcoin will not be possible for the government alone. The King of Bitcoin Online. Before finishing Bitcoin, the crypto must be completed before it, which is not the work of any government. Maybe the government can cancel Bitcoin in their country.

Yes its true, if the Government can easily kill bitcoin i think they kill it before the bitcoin is not popular. Bitcoin cant easily kill because if its easy then it already replace by another crypto currencies, because there are lot of people wants to copy the format of bitcoin but they cant do it.

Government can obviously ban the cryptocurrency exchanges since they have the power to do so, but in no way they can "kill" the bitcoin.
The main reason that government quotes for banning crytos is that it makes easy for people do do money laundering since the funds of a country can be easily sent abroad. But, that is not really the case. The majority of the people that deal on local exchanges are the ones who complete their KYC and do small term trading. By banning such exchanges, the government is only encouraging people to find an alternative way of trading by registering themselves on foreign exchanges.
As a result of this, a lot of people would like to open foreign bank accounts and move their funds over there. This way, money laundering would be done even by those who initially didn't intend to do it.
So Bitcoins being banned by government is not really a positive move and will have its own consequences in future.

So Bitcoins being banned by government is not really a positive move and will have its own consequences in future.

Basically regulations could be adopted to monitor and control the crypto exchanges. A government has the purchasing power to buy up large quantities, drive the price up then sell and collapse it, thereby massively increasing volatility. These market fluctuations could be aggravated by a covert government programme of destructive funding and public disinformation. This would make doing business in any cryptocurrency more difficult.
I don't think that any government is interested in "killing" bitcoin, but rather in regulating it, having more control on it and so limiting any form of "abuse".

So far, we have seen the actions taken by the bans, the bitcoin restrictions imposed from Korea, China have their purpose. It seems that the great success of bitcoin, eth and the crypto market are gaining interest from governments by substantial revenue streams. Their initial plan could be to motivate and enable their domestic coin to grow. At least for me it is ICX and NEO tend to grow and more and more investors are interested.

Simultaneous ban by many governments Probability (next 5 years): medium to low Effect: instant loss of relevance States can not destroy bitcoin because of its decentralized arrangement, but can control and limit its use in its jurisdiction. For example, you can close bank accounts of crypto companies, and in general create a business related to crypto currency. At the same time, if such a ban is adopted only in some countries, its effect will be limited - the business will simply go into more friendly jurisdictions. This is exactly what happened when last year the Chinese government banned the country's crypto-exchange exchanges. It is likely that other governments will follow in the footsteps of Beijing, but in my opinion, a global ban is impossible (imagine the achievement of such a consensus in the UN). In addition, bitcoin is already legal in Japan. Nevertheless, if the United States, the EU, the United Kingdom and China introduce a joint ban, it will be very dangerous. However, it is more likely that they will regulate the crypto-currency market in order to protect individual investors and collect taxes.

A potential threat is always an enemy of the state. If they cannot find a way to regularized or control bitcoin then it is a big possibility. And i think the present attact of bitcoin is their doing.

If necessary, governments can do anything. However, they need multilateral solution of G20 at least, to try to significantly damage  Bitcoin. Now such a scenario would be unlikely. I believe that governments will try to benefit from Bitcoin to varying degrees.

Even if they try , they will not succeed. They can have their own cryptocurrency but bitcoin will remain.  People are supporting bitcoin and for as long as there is cryptocurrency there will always be a bitcoin.

I don't think that they will implement such coins real soon. To be honest the current crypto market itself is struggling a lot since many years to get into the nationwide payment structure. That was it's one of the principle when it was created in the first place. I mean they tried to make it secure and anonymous and for the peer to peer transaction.

Now you are saying that government wants to create their own crypto currencies, but I ask why is that so? Why make more mess if they already have fiat to look after? That's just meaningless gesture in anyway and it's not gonna be worth it.

I think really that many governments in different countries dreams about the possibility to put cryptocurrencies under their control. But as we know it is almost impossible to do at least for now.

Governments can NEVER kill btc.
Even if Government are the one who is responsible in all the happenings in our society and in our community and can remove any sort of illegality and illegitimate transactions, connections and other works and actions that big people does, but Bitcoin is not among them.
Bitcoin is decentralized!
Bitcoin is decentralized and can not be killed as it has shown that surviving in such situations when you start from scratch is very hard ad Bitcoin has gone through that situations now the time is very good and favourable. If Bitcoin has survived in that situations the today killing Bitcoin is impossible for Governments but possible for people. You must be thinking that why people will kill it but can not because Bitcoin is the well and wish of people so it is impossible and not an important question to ask.

I'm interested in this topic. Well, I'm also curious how they can kill the bitcoin that has been spreading around the world. Maybe they can create their own cryptocurrency and force the societies to stop using or involved in bitcoin. But, it cannot make the bitcoin killed when there are still many people around the world involved and investing in bitcoin. They may influence the price or existence, but, to kill the bitcoin, it is difficult and it really needs a big effort from them. Because now, more people support the bitcoin and use it for valuable things.

no government can kill bitcoin. the blockchain technology was not designed to be  manipulated by the government agencies or by the global financial laws as it is a stand alone technology. one of its motives is to decentralize the financial way in which the government regulated financial policies. thanks
They cannot kill bitcoin, but they are trying their best to try to manipulate the market and the people holding cryptocurrencies, they are trying to scare people away with all the regulations that they are imposing, I'm sure that the regulations are going to be so complex that you are going to need several accountants and lawyers and most the time people do not want to deal with that and they will avoid cryptocurrencies as a result.

For me.yes if all tje governments all around the world will banned it into the market because in that sense the bitcoins will not.run anymore and the people cannot use it because it is banned but maybe it can be used because there wjll always be an illegal activity but they will lose a lot of people and the price will surely fall down too. But lets not forget that yhe Japanese is really supporting the bitcoins so that thing will not happen in.real life. Noyhing can stop bitcoins if there are still one country who supports it.

I think they can restrict and pinch the bitcoin and crypto market. However, that will not prevent bitcoin from working and evolving. It is difficult to control whether users or investors can transfer money or pay for goods. I totally do not expect that to happen with bitcoin and cryptographic markets.

Governments have no control over Bitcoin but have control over people and can not change or amend Bitcoin but can make amendment or can pass a law to ban Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in country to prevent people not to use cryptocurrencies. In my assumptions I have concluded a main point which is about the growth of Bitcoin; from now if there is no such country allow Bitcoin for its people to invest then there is no affect on the Bitcoin because Bitcoin is already using all over the world and some countries have adopted it fully so the future survival is valid and the and then lasting of Bitcoin is invalid.

They are their different reasons for doing that and the people of their country can’t do anything about this because we are all govern of whatever kind of leadership we have. Governments have begun to pay close attention to Bitcoin. They see the benefits of Bitcoin and the potential of Bitcoin in the future. The non-governmental nature of Bitcoin, which deals with the taxation of Bitcoin activities in disputed countries. As far as I know, governments are finding solutions to the management and taxation of Bitcoin activities. They will not replace it with another crypto. Bitcoin will grow stronger.

I do not think that US government will do this. Some of the countries like India have made an statement that they are thinking to launch their own crypto but I do not see much potential there because:

1) Thy are calling crypto bad and thus banning bitcoins. Then if they launch own coins, who will have trust on this hypocritical attitude.

2) Since, they are banning other crypto, what will their coins compete with. I think that it is because of comparison and competition only, bitcoin gained so much popularity.

Thus there's not much anything they can do about it and can't stop it.

And the fact that its origin is really unknown even if satoshi nakamoto is really a person still no one knows his true identity and the place that he created bitcoin. Also the users of the bitcoin will also be a reason for the goverment to not ban bitcoin since the users will be protesting against banning it. And the fact that bitcoin could really help someone when it comes to moneytary issues is really hard. The only thing that they could do is to ban it globally and endure the peoples protest against banning it which is pretty hard.

Bitcoin does not come under anyone control and it is really not influenced too much by the actions of any sort of authority. It has been on its own since ever. At most, any decision against bitcoin can slow its progress down for few days and that is not near to the efforts people put in bringing bitcoin down. If you ask me, such governments are just wasting their time here.

by making such a regulation likely to be a stirring news if any country makes such a rule
but well there does not seem to be any such rules
there will be some debate

There are some governments trying to oppose the BTC. But I do not think much about BTC, because other governments still accept BTC. and BTC will continue to exist. So please invest in BTC.

For now the possibility exists, as we know the impact of bad news and the closing market market in a country could have a big impact on Bitcoin. What I'm afraid of is if the big country is really illegal Bitcoin and many small and developing countries follow it. Hopefully it does not happen...

What do you think? Can governments kill Bitcoin and replace it with their own digital/crypto currency?
Some countries forbid bitcoin because they can not control it. They plan to make their own digital currency in order to be controlled. I do not think it will have much effect because Bitcoin has its own community.

I think of course the government can kill bitcoin, let alone superpower like US and russia. the government could have banned everything related to cryptocurrency, especially bitcoin, and with that no one else would want to invest crypto or save their money in the form of crypto, so that way the market would be ruined and there would be no cryptocurrency

I don't think anyone can kill BTC unless the whole BTC community agrees to do so. BTC is distributed and decentralized which means it's not under any single authority's control. But yes government policies on BTC can have a huge impact on the crypto market, as in Sep last year we saw a huge decline in BTC value after China ban ICO's.

Some large countries are quietly killing bitcoins. They seek ways to prevent bitcoin development. Their purpose is to kill bitcoin then they release their virtual money. This is why China prohibits the use of bitcoin

Bitcoins are not easily killed by the government. The government does not control bitcoin. If you want to kill bitcoin, all countries in the world must simultaneously block bitcoin. But I think this is totally unlikely

The government may limit the development of Bitcoin, but believe that the government cannot stop Bitcoin. The development of Bitcoin itself is not controlled by any organization.
Indeed, the government can only limit the development of bitcoin. Some countries like China banned bitcoins, causing bitcoins not to develop in these countries, but it flourished in other countries such as Japan and Korea.

The bitcoin itself will no longer be killed by government. As long as the government has no access on the server of it, They will not control the bitcoin and it will still exists. Bitcoin is still in the market if the server will still have no plan in deletion of bitcoin. And i think, Bitcoin will exist forever.

It is good for government to legalize Bitcoin will be beneficial for the economy of the country.

Yes this is possible if the world government take their actions to totally banned bitcoin because they want to create their own crypto currency and monitor who is the holder of the currency they are making today. this will definitely kill bitcoin.
I think the government can not kill bitcoin. They want to kill the bitcoin to create their virtual currency, but they will not be able to. Some countries recognize the potential of bitcoin and they favor bitcoin, because bitcoin helps them attract investment.

Yes sir! Their stories and tabloids they made up doesn't really have primary or proven source. All of them are just speculations and doubly true. If government will kill bitcoin, it will backlash to them. Instead of thinking of doing such thing, they should just support it and make it better and develop it more.

Most likely no they can't kill bitcoin. Remember darknet, torrent and so on, all they can do is try to block these sources from us, but how can you block something which is decentralized, doesn't belong to no one, and has no boss or CEO ??? I guess most of Governments will try to settle a regulation around bitcoin and crypto market. Governments live by principle "If we can not forbid it, let's try to be head of it"
Not sure if crypto issued by countries will become that popular in near future, right now i know only one popular coin which is backed by oil - elpetro, cryptocurrencies which are backed by real product most likely could make it to stay on the market for a long time.

I think yes,Government everywhere do the bad job of it.but not for lack of conscience and effort, rather more for lack of  humility. They will never be up to the task of central planning.
Yes but not in every country happening all this, growing market of bitcoin is making it good be like as in my government bitcoin is being support at very high level, for me bitcoin is best thing for the economy of the country, I hope this way if our government will support bitcoin then slowly we will get more stable in the world, and our country will appear as the strongest country in the  map of the world.

Yes government can kill Bitcoin and in many country their government already killed it. :o Yes that is true many country produce their own crypto currency in order to lower the reputation and market price of Bitcoin. But those coins are not as much as famous like Bitcoin. The main reason behind any government fear to Bitcoin is their country economy :-[. Due to decentralised nature it production and distribution is not stable, and this thing directly affect an country own currency value and also affect that country bank system and growth. Because of this reason Chinese government ban it  in their country. Bitcoin is also associated with criminal activity and due to this Israel government ban it in their country.  :)

No, government cannot kill Bitcoin. It can although restrict its usage. Killing Bitcoin completely is not easy as it has already spread over the world. Further, government cannot interfere in a decentralized concept. Bitcoin does not need anyone’s approval to operate. Government can introduce some regulation to the crypto market to make it more secure, which is, indeed, a good thing.

I don't think the government can kill bitcoin because it's decentralized, and as long as someone trusts and USES it, it will never die. If the government issued tokens without the user's approval, it would be worthless.

The main reason cryptocurrency can survive is trust.

2. They could somehow manipulate its people or the citizen that are engaging the in this industry, by somehow imposing some threats to totally make these people lessen there transactions or activities that has a connection with Bitcoin.
3. It's possible for the Government, to make their own cryptocurrency  given the power that it has. It could easily penetrate the market in their own country.

A government ban can make it extremely difficult for Bitcoin users to exchange their coins to fiat and vice versa. It may not be possible for the authorities to track the coins to the users, but once they convert it to fiat, it is going to be traceable.

The value is rising for the past few days. In one week, the exchange rates have risen by almost 25%. I am not sure whether this is a temporary phenomenon or not. In case it is not a temporary phenomenon, then we can confidently say that the government propaganda is not having much impact on the Bitcoin users.

If you are able to explain us how a government can replace a decentralized and basically anonymously run system, they probably can. As long as you are not able to do so, they can not and I highly doubt you ever can, because this is technically not possible. Several countries, if not all, probably will one day introduce its own crypto currencies, but those crypto coins are not compareable with the decentralized and privately run, because currencies introduced by governments are usually to take the value of people's work.

If the start and eventually growth of Bitcoin is not brought about by the governments, then I can see no reason why the governments can effectively kill Bitcoin. Bitcoin started and earned fast and solid growth over the years without any kind of help from the governments. That means they have made such amazing achievements independently from the governments. It can exist on its own with only the ordinary people backing them up. Governments may try to cripple Bitcoin by banning it but it will definitely fail to kill it.
