In the name of everything that is good and Holy, I would recommend forum denizens avoid this like offer like the plague.

Butterfly Labs does not deserve the business of this community based on their continuing contempt of their customers, and publicly speaking out against these very forums.

I would advise everyone reading this post to familiarize themselves with the posting history of their Chief Operating Officer, Joshua "Inaba" Zerlan, located here;

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=8198;sa=showPosts

I would recommend taking some time to at least go through a few pages of threads, and judge for yourself if these are the types of people you want to be doing business with.

Caveat Emptor to be sure.

25% discount.  Hefty.  I've purchased from BFL before and did eventually get ROI on my order so I can't really complain about them (apart from the many months of anguish at delay after delay).

What concerns me now is BFL is still claiming initial orders shipping in November/December.  Seeing as there are only 4 days left of November, can BFL provide a count of how many cards they've shipped?  I suggest the number is zero as no reviews have been posted online.  December is cut short by Christmas with many businesses shutting down for a while, and January has the Chinese New Year (expect that one to pop up when BFL are late to ship in January too).

Ordering now is likely to see the card ship in mid 2014 as far as I can see.  It would be great if one could trust BFL's shipping estimates, but seeing as every single one has been broken I fail to see how that can be achieved.

The way I see it the get them before Christmas is related to the old line of products, not about Monarch cards.
But even so, that is pretty much impossible (unless a Christmas miracle) as they are still awful late.

I'm sure they are marketing towards the global BTC black Friday happy fun time that is being announced:

I see the turds from VMC have a product listed on the main page there..

Plenty of suckers in the sea to get that instant shit taste in their mouths when things are delayed forever (or 2 weeks)...

The before Christmas shipping date is for Monarchs, not the old 65nm product lines.  It's on BFL's Monarch web site:

http://www.butterflylabs.com/monarch/

Tape out August 2013
November / December    Initial Shipping   (Sold out)
January / February    Bulk Shipping

I would do a screen shot for when BFL change the above info but people can grab their own.  BFL are promising a Christmas miracle to their customers.

ROI achieved using the payment method used.  Payment in September 2012 with delivery in July the following year.  Yes, we can do the BTC vs other currency dance and people would be right that if I bought BTC instead of BFL I would be ahead overall.  For those people I would like to see their posts from mid 2012 stating bitcoin would be worth 10 to 20 times more in USD terms when BFL actually started to ship versus the order date.  Hindsight is 20/20.

According to BFL some of the first batch should have already shipped, or will be shipping in the next few weeks.  I would expect these forums to be lighting up with delighted BFL customers showing off their new Monarchs.  So far we haven't seen any.  One month down, one to go.

Dollars spent versus dollars returned, I don't see a problem.  Yes, if I had bought more BTC more than a year ago than BFL I would be better off overall now.  Who wouldn't be?  With hindsight like that we should all be millionaires as it was obvious that bitcoins would be trading for US$900+ right now  ;)  These forums are full of people lamenting over their lost Ferraris and yachts.  'If only I had bought more BTC than spent on X!'  It's a depressing way to live.

Tape Out?

Has it even been completed.

From completed tape out you still have to wait 15 weeks from BFL's own estimates to a "ramping" up of the shipping / production regardless of when you ordered.

All orders are at least 3.75 months away from shipping from today will always be 3.75 months away until they say they have moved beyond tapeout. If anyone has evidence of the completed tapeout that be great to know.

December
January
February
3rd Week of March for the those who ordered first or who have the biggest orders.

Don't get fooled. Read the page and the week to week timeline. Read and do the math yourself.

Code:
Shipping Schedule

This is a Pre-Order product which is not yet shipping.  If you're uncomfortable waiting until the development
is complete and the product is shipped, do NOT pre-order this product. Perhaps undesirable, but this is a
pre-order market.  Customers flatly demand to get in line for the new technology before it's finished
development.  This has created a lot of drama for the manufacturers but it's something we simply have
to deal with.  All manufacturers in this space have experienced some degree of delay with their first
generation ASIC.  Every last one of them, so we're reluctant to give a specific delivery date.
However, this is our second generation, so we have much greater clarity on the process and we feel our
timeline to begin shipments towards the end of the year is solid.

Here's a breakdown of the timeline.

+ We're now in at the final stage of development (Tapeout) and are sending wafers into production at the
foundry in the next few weeks[/b]

+ Foundry production takes 10 weeks

+ Bumping, Slicing & BGA packaging takes approximately 2 weeks

+ Initial shipments begin and ramp up to full capacity over the following 3 weeks

Since this is our 2nd generation ASIC chip, we're free from the pitfalls sometimes associated with a first generation
design. Testing systems, Bumping masks, Substrates & under fill engineering are all carryovers from our last version
of the chip, so they're ready for high volume production once the wafers are ready. The importance of this can't be
overstated when considering schedule certainty.  Nevertheless, please do not purchase this product if you are
unwilling to wait for the product to complete its development.

10+2+3 = 15 Weeks or 3.75 Months.

Don't forget the terms:

Code:
Pre-Order Terms: This is a pre-order. 28nm ASIC bitcoin mining hardware products
are shipped according to placement in the order queue, and delivery may take 3 months or more after order.
All sales are final.

They said that it will be shipping and taping out (in a few weeks) when they announced it.

Let's recap, and I'm only using my personal experience here:

I ordered some BFL Jalepenos in June. I freely admit I was naive at the time and just learning about BTC. During that time:

1) ASICMiner has shipped God knows how many blades and block erupters. I picked up a few erupters.

2) KnC miner has announced and shipped their product.

3) The Klondike K16 was designed and fine tuned by the community. It was even shipped, counting Avalon delays, BEFORE I got my BFL order. They are sitting there hashing right now.

4) Bitfury has shipped tons of chips and products have been built on the basis of those chips.

BFL still has not taped out. It's still in  "a few weeks". My Jalepenos are still not here (but I did get a shipped e-mail today, they "shipped" on 11/27)....how can something be "shipped" in the future? I thought "shipped" means it already shipped at some point in the past.

Anybody that throws their money down the BFL sink hole deserves what they get.

My June 3 jaly was marked as complete last week but order details came up empty.  I got a tracking number yesterday that was not in the USPS system.  This is constant with earlier reports that you get a tracking number a day or three before the product actually ships.

I can believe 50's will ship before xmas but would be surprised if they get caught up on 6 months of jaly back orders before then.  Too bad because there is nothing else in that price range even remotely order-able.

So they shipped 4 months worth of product in 1 day. That means they've had virtually no sales for the past 4 months!

Could be but that certainly wouldn't be the smart move.  You don't poke a stick at a potentially dangerous animal of any kind, especially a human one.

There are consequences.

The 25% off sale really means that BFL is only going to fuck everyone 75% as hard............

My $.02.

5 GH/s Bitcoin Miner

$274.00

I was wondering if that was true, since what I'm hearing here is horror stories. I spent 2 minutes going through the menus and listening to the automated message. Finally when it said press 0 to talk to an operator, I thought great, instead it ended the call. I'm not sure what to think now.

"Immediate" is a misleading term when dealing with the likes of BFL. Their latest shipping update was "Jalapenos 5 gh/s: June 7, 2013". They still have 5 months backlogged orders for those. If you order today, it will not ship immediately. They are lying, again.

They probably figure that anyone who is still waiting is stupid, so they can sell their orders on and make them wait a bit longer.

I've been looking for a decent miner  to really start hashing out, but everything seems to be 4 months back logged due to the insane rise in price of BTCs. I was able to get a few BFL 5GH for 325$, but I think I was really lucky looking at what some of the prices are now.

I just tried calling BFL because on their site says:

5 GH/s Bitcoin Miner
Units in Stock. Immediate Delivery
$274.00

You are assuming that "Immediate Delivery" has something to do with your BFL Asic miner purchase.

The truth of the matter is your BTC payment is immediately delivered into BFL's bitcoin wallet.

On the ad, it's pretty clear that their current line of products would hopefully ship to you by Christmas (aka Jala and 50GH box).  I looked at their blog and even though we've moved two months of time from when I had received units, they are about 10 months ahead in production.   This means that sooner or later, that queue is going to be caught up and empty.

I too, saw the early Nov / Dec ordering for the Monarchs but as those are pre-order (with a paragraph worth of notes and announcement that this is in development), I wouldn't expect to see them before Feb / March.

I know BFL has soured many but I received my unit from them right when estimated, had good communication, and haven't had any issues.  But yeah just getting in touch with them via phone or email DOES take some time.  It's not that they don't want to answer, it's probably more that they have to take everything FIFO.  If they're saying orders today will ship by Christmas then hopefully they'll tackle the remaining backlog soon.

Last I saw was they were up to June of 2013 with Jalapeno / Single orders and Nov 2013 with bigger units.

Oh Loaded, who art up in Mt. Gox, hallowed be thy name!  Thy dollars rain, thy will be done, on BTCUSD.  Give us this day our daily 10% 30%, and forgive the bears, as we have bought their bitcoins.  And lead us into quadruple digits

Time for a new signature :)

The dates on the web site might be out of date. It's safer to listen the dates in the actual Black Friday ad they emailed out, which says "early 2014" for shipping with th older 65nm products in stock and shipping immediately.

25% discount.  Hefty.  I've purchased from BFL before and did eventually get ROI on my order so I can't really complain about them (apart from the many months of anguish at delay after delay).

What do you mean you made ROI? You made more bitcoins than if you have bought bitcoins instead of a miner at the time of your purchase?'
Let me guess. Not by a mile  :P

What miner has? Except for the first Avalons, I'd say it's pretty hard to mine a purchase price back (in BTC).

Those 90BTC Avalons are going to be running for a long time before they earn back 90BTC. How much were the first BitFury or KNC miners when paid for in BTC?

The Monarch I just paid for was 3.25BTC. Both the BTC and USD ROI are going to be depended on shipping dates, but this whole argument is pretty much a dead horse.

I also play this game!  8)

After KNCMiner did not want my Money for a second Neptune, I decided to give it BFL ...

So I took the plunge, now a second to order bflMonarch.
If everything goes according to my current calculations, the cards would have to make even something about ROI.

Now hit me already for it!  :P

Hey guys I'm selling virtual mining contracts:  Full disclosure there are no miners, there never will be miners, I will not purchase and run hardware. But I will provide a fancy website you can log into and a virtual pool that will show your imaginary hashrate to make you feel better.  You can OC, fuck around with fake settings, the entire hosted mining experience without the messy fucking hardware!

Now the cost for these contracts I charge 10 BTC per year, and I promise you will "mine" back 8.5BTC over the 1 year contract, if BTC price goes up you will have a tidy fiat profit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now which of you BFL customers would like to be first?

Edit, actually the time of the contract is up to the customer if they would like to extend the time from 1 year (minimum) to 2,3,5 or 10 years I will not charge a single satoshi more!  Come and get em

It's an argument against miners that are making less bitcoins that you could have bought directly.
You're assuming I'm paying with USD. I'm buying the Monarchs with BTC mined from my SC Singles, which were paid for with BTC mined from my FPGA Singles, which were paid for in BTC mined from multiple GPUs, which were paid for in BTC from an initial investment of a few hundred USD when I picked up my first 5830.

I've already cashed out on a bunch of BTC to cover my operating expenses, as well as a nice chunk to pay off all of my student loans. With the exception of month-to-month expenses, I am now officially living debt-free, something most Americans cannot say. And I make a pretty mediocre paycheck (at best), so I don't have a lot of cash to buy BTC with.

So I have a decent number of BTC that are now worth thousands of USD. Should I just sit on them and do nothing? What if I want to reinvest those BTC into more hardware? I can sit on that 3.25BTC forever, or I can reinvest so I can earn that back. If I make even a satochi more than the 3.25BTC over it's lifetime (which will hopefully be years), than I've come out ahead.

Cuz I don't like dealing with unknown companies who haven't delivered anything yet?

I have no reservations from ordering from KNC or BitFury, but BitFury is way more expensive, and KNC is closing their new orders to previous customers.

You should keep reinvesting untill you have 0 BTC left because every investment will leave you with less bitcoins than you had before.
Actually i think you deserve it, since it seems that you are into bitcoin for some time now and you still don't have a clue about difficulty, roi etc.

It is for them to PROVE tape out not me.

As for evidence they already REMOVED the info on 10 weeks + 2 weeks + 3 weeks after tapeout.

I do love a company that 'refines' it's pages.

Code:
Pre-Order Terms: This is a pre-order. 28nm ASIC bitcoin mining hardware
products are shipped according to placement in the order queue, and delivery may
take 3 months or more after order. All sales are final.

Still a nice big WARNING and dates that are clearly stated.

3 MONTHS OR MORE. ALL SALES FINAL.

Given the 10 weeks at FOUNDRY they stipulated that won't change and that can't happen unless they have taped out. They have yet to prove any tape out has happened. 3 months or more is what you need to key in on. Closer to 4 months given their past timeline.

March or April for the first few developer, friends and family units then the rest that come off the line go for "burn-in" and you will see your Monarch maybe June? July? 2014. If the line for orders of this product is long, people are certainly either, ill informed or trapped in the never ending upgrade loop.

Don't get caught up in their games. Seriously just go buy BTC or FRC or something else or from KnC or take a less risky investment and try Black Arrow or BitMine.

Less of a gamble and more of a waste of coin and time if you deal with BFL. Just think of the man hours people put into trying to get a straight answer from them on shipping dates, rma and refunds. Millions lost. Just don't buy BFL save yourself the hassle. Then no one here needs to warn people off BFL. Problem resolved.

At 25% off they are still too expensive... assuming they do ship in a reasonable time.  600 GH/S should be like 1800 bucks. Or 1.5 BTC.

Actually, historically, BTC has been a pretty profitable venture for me. I also understand many of the technical and economic aspects quite well, and I'm not really sure why you're resorting to baseless personal attacks.

Of course hind sight is 20/20, and there are things I would have done differently (http://gizmodo.com/man-forgets-about-buying-27-of-bitcoin-is-now-worth-a-1454150399). But overall, I'm still pretty happy. My "reinvestments" have typically earned their full purchase price back (doesn't matter if you're counting in USD or BTC). The only way I'd end up with 0 BTC is if I held onto the BTCs I currently have, sold them years later, and never bought any more hardware. Where's the fun in that? Where's the growth?

and I say this with great trepidation...If I were to send BFL some irrevocable BTCs for a 50GH miner it would have to be less than 0.5 BTC including shipping and some reassurance from reputable forum members (not the BFL shill gang) that BFL is shipping hardware in 48 hours or less of order/pay date.

Since that is never going to happen don't bother shooting yourselves in the proverbial feet

Just a 6-28 jally. It's been marked as fulfilled for a week and in production a few weeks before that. I only ordered it because they were way ahead on Jally production. Soon as I ordered, the production line came to a crawl. Tried for a refund months ago.

I figure if they show up in a reasonable amount of time, I can still sell 2 locally for less than I paid for the whole lot, and if not... it's still a potential 28Gh/s for less than $900. I have my AVR dragon standing by and waiting for these guys.

Yep, I just ordered another Monarch 600 with the 25% discount.

Let the flaming begin.

Let's take a look

Monarch: $3510 for 600 GH/s due in Feb.
BA: $4799 for 2000 GH/s due in Feb.

Why would you waste your money like that?

Then look at the fine print at BFL site.

15 weeks from when TAPE OUT finishes. Tape out ain't finished.

That is March or later not February.

who says that they Has not taped out till now? you know that for sure?
and the "fine print" is deleted from They site, because was it from july and maybe very outdated.

of course, bfl is a Club of idiots - not capable to communicate With Their customers and not capable to inform people about status-update

oh wonder! they have spoken to customers about delivery time! (of course later)    they can speak! (write)  ;)

josh is capable to communicate about important informations, not only fighting with trolls. Go on so!

maybe Josh has readed above and was imagine his fault in communication!? There is hope!  :-*

Out of curiosity how many people that order on the BF sale have gotten their order?
I'm assuming those who ordered did so to Flip them on Ebay.

Have a feeling they won't arrive till after Christmas even though the site said they had them instock. (not that I bought one)

Might snag a Jally once the market gets flooded though :)

Maybe you could let me know when you've wised up, so I can remove you from my ignore list.

Hard to flood anything when their still trying to fill July orders.  They are way to expensive anyway, especially considering the power you need to run them.

That's fine I don't pay for my BTC with USD I pay via electrical bill and use it to heat my room in cold months.

I ordered a single last week for the hell of it after they said shipping form stock. I suspected it was a complete lie. I received the unit today to my complete and utter shock. This appears to be the only transaction I will not get raped on.

I received my Black Friday order today as well.  They did forget the PCI-e extension cables I ordered though.

Consider yourself lucky, has any received a black Friday jala? I'm still waiting on my June Jala.

Jalapeņos were not listed as immediate delivery during the Black Friday sale as far as I know.  When I looked, only Singles and MiniRigs were offered.  And later Little Singles were added, I think.

When I made my purchase, Jalapenos were listed as "In Stock - For Immediate Delivery"

I'm not saying that you're wrong but I do recall seeing the 3 miners on the Product page.  But only the Single and MiniRig had the text "for immediate delivery".  But then again, I wasn't interested in the Jalapeno so maybe I didn't look that closely.  But one thing I do recall was seeing a Jalapeno backlog still on Jody's blog and others mentioning that fact on the forum here.

Overall though, I couldn't be happier with this purchase from BFL.  Now if they could just figure out how to fix my first day Monarch preorder so I don't miss out on early delivery if it happens.  And yes, I do actually think they will deliver the Monarch much quicker than they did the first gen stuff.  But I'm not wearing rose-colored glasses either.

Jalapenos 5 gh/s: All jalapeņos shipping in the next few days

Little Singles 25 gh/s and 30 Upgrades: ALL CAUGHT UP

Single 50 gh/s and 60 Upgrades: ALL CAUGHT UP

    MiniRigs: ALL CAUGHT UP

I have received all the BFL units I had on order and they have paid for themselves. Not sure if units purchased now would pay for themselves, certainly not mining just BTC.

Good for you hero. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone had the same experience you did?
