It has been 2 years that I bought my First bitcoin. I have never been able to sell or trade it. Is it only me who is emotionally binded or does this happened with anyone else?

Also, is it a good thing to be emotionally attached so much to Bitcoins?

It's normal to feel some sort of attachment to your investments. Its yours, so what you do with it is up to you.

What is your purpose to buy bitcoin ?, do not you need money at all. If you do not want to sell your bitcoin, try to use the bitcoin for transaction purposes such as purchasing goods and so on, because it can increase the price of bitcoin.

in the world of cryptocurrency trade especially bitcoin will indeed cause emotional feelings. Because dipikiran we between selling or holding it thing that depends on the lust on ourselves. You are a great person who can muffle this emotional dam and trade

I dont own much as I entered so late (by your entry point), so if someone has entered that early as you, they can have the staying power as the current price is at least 10-30x from the entry point, but if someone bought like me around the last bull run, sometimes it is too hard, but I guess if someone really believes bitcoin is going to be the digital gold one day when blockchain applications is what internet applications today, then those who are holding now would be so happy !

To me in business is not bound to emotionally. Only the right look at the price? Sell or not to sell? If selling words or holes? There is a need for investment in bitcoin.

Not really, i am not that emotionally attached to my bitcoins. Maybe because I really needed those.. Lol..

Being an investor should not hurt affection.
We invest BTC mainly make profit, what is good for the investment you do it yourself

I've always been quite emotional of letting go of my bitcoin when doing trading, but I just always tell myself that being attached to certain coins or tokens is very bad in a trading and investing perspective. With that said, when trying to sell I definitely don't sell everything. I always want to see at least a small amount on my wallet. lol

I think this is totally emotional movement. I believe people have some emotional attachment with every first thing. And you are doing so. But I think you should come out from their. Because when it will be urgent for you to sell, it would be late and more emotional

if I'm new to a beginner, so never sell bitcoin.
but if I get bitcoin later, I will sell it. and I will not be emotional to face crypto market that the end of this price is unstable.

Wow! That is so great of you. If you are still holding on to your Bitcoin until now, then your value has already multiplied so many times. You must have successfully made yourself a lot richer than when you first bought your Bitcoin. I am also holding on to my little amount of Bitcoin. But I cannot avoid withdrawing once in a while. I have some needs so I need to have some resources also, although I also refill it whenever I have the extra money.   

Don't fall yourself in too much emotional attached with bitcoin. Maybe one of these days you will found out yourself worthless. I mean too much emotion is not good to handle well the business. There will be a time that you will base the situation base on your emotion and that's not good, really not good. Much better to make it light in order tyo balance everything for you.

In investment/trading being emotionally attached to your coin is always bad. Although you have bought your Bitcoin cheap I hope you have set a target sell Price because if you have not then there is no use on investing in Bitcoin/stocks. There is a reason you invest  and that reason is to make money. If you do not sell it until you die then it is just a wasted investment. You need to enjoy what you have made.

Good for you if you didn't sell your first Bitcoin or haven't sold any Bitcoin that you get from the day that you started with Cryptos. That takes a lot of discipline. In my case, the Bitcoin that I hold is stored in a wallet and the password is known by my wife and the wallet id is kept by me. That way it takes two of us to decide if we are going to sell or not yet. So far we sell only when there's an emergency and there's no other option but to sell a portion of it.

I am pretty sure I dont even remember when does I had full bitcoin in the first place. Whenever I got my bitcoin initially (satoshi perhaps) then I sold it immediately out of the curiosity on how it works from the crypto to cash! I got happy when I was able to withdraw the bitcoin into real cash and thus it made me go excited about it whenever I earned a bitcoin. I never as such held my coins initially until I saw the importance for holding the same. So no I dont think was emotionally bound to bitcoin at first and now also I am not emotionally attached but its just that I want to gain more profits, so its my job.

You are one of the luckiest person who bought bitcoin during that time and I think you made a good decision holding on it. I personally sold my first bitcoin coming from a signature campaign, simply because I need money that time. If you are planning to hold for more years with bitcoin do it, because your profit will be higher for sure but I better sold some of my holdings so I can secure some profit that can be backed up my capital when something happen. It's not bad to be emotionally attached with bitcoin, but you need to know when to exit the market.

Bitcoin is currency i dont usually get bound by money because yu sre going to spend them but being bound by what you invested such as businesses is wuite understandable.

That is where everything gets out of hand: mixing emotions with money. I've been there, though tbh it didn't do me any good. Mixing emotions with your money/investments often lead to your judgment being clouded by thoughts which shouldn't exist in the first place. It's like you're making money your love affair when in reality it shouldn't and it's dumb. Learn to part with  any kind of irrational thinking about your investment and be cold-hearted, eventually you will find success in your endeavors in trading.

Depending on your intentions, you buy bitcoin for investment or just to have it.
But I think it would be better if you sell it at the right time, waiting for a soaring bitcoin price may take a long time.

yeah it got me so much emotional when i first involved in bitcoin plus i got my first payment in bounty campaign im just so glad that i earn money

Business is Business it's kinda hard if you get Emotionally bound cause being attached to something that had to be sell is very bad to trading and investing.

That was some patience you've got there buddy. I sell my BTC when I get the chance to earn from it and then buy when I feel like I am buying. But I bought at at low price or something. Then if it doesn't fall down I sell my alts for it. I don't have that kind of feelings towards BTC.

In some way, I am like you. I buy and sell bitcoins every day, so I do not get emotionally attached to those coins, because they float around on a exchange and I do not own the private key to those coins. On the other hand, I still have coins that were paid to me from my first signature campaign and also from faucets I used. <Those coins went to a paper wallet and they are still there>

It is like the first dollar you earned in your shop, you frame it and you stick it on a wall in your office.  :D

Yes i am to bounded. But i know why, this is think about what price in the future can be mad big.

It is a normal feeling since it is your first bitcoin and you may think that its more valuable especially that you exerted effort just to own that. However, you can make it grow by double if you just know how to trade with it. If not, then sell it when the price become high and buy again when it becomes low.

This is odd lol. I remember I felt like disturbed and nervous when I got my first bitcoin. I could not wait long even if I read articles advising hodling. In my first trade, I got nothing but loss lol.

I am also emotionally bound with most of my coins. But I did managed to sell some percentage of them though when I see a necessity. You can sell some of your bitcoin in possessed and buy other altcoins.

You are just too emotional. Bitcoin is made for being actively used, it's not made to be kept as some kind of souvenir.
I see Bitcoin mostly as a currency and a payment method so there is no use if I get emotionaly attached to it. When you sell it or use otherwise for the first time it will be a lot easier the next.

Its good purpose if we can use bitcoin to buy some goods but the problem is coming before that.
After sometime, i hope we can use bitcoin as payment every where, not only online but offline too since we are impossible to make all the transaction online. We need to transact bitcoin offline too.

I can understand your concern but I am more attracted towards this technology and I believe that we should give first preference to use it as a payment system and thus I try to spend at least 50% of my funds as I believe the movement is a growth. To be honest, I received my first Bitcoin during my business activity and I had to sell it to get my funds in fiat. I am emotionally attached to this technology (yet prepared for the worst case scenario). I believe that after 10 years from now, we will look back and say to ourselves that it was an amazing adventure.

I know emotions has no boundaries.  But when it's come about  business, investment or coin you should control your emotion. Don't get very attached with the coins.

Some people love to collect stuff, stamps, coins, postcards, cars... They feel attached to it regardless of the actual value. Nevertheless, the time will arrive when you will sell. I can see already a teardrop even if you sell it for 1million dollar.

Normal if you often feel emotional in you because it is related to personal money, maybe you invest using a lot of money or all the money you have to buy Bitcoin, I'm sure if someone very rich will not worry too much about the price of Bitcoin, because they know more much about the market, the most important thing is to believe that Bitcoin will rise again, but it's not easy just to wait in a few years so it will be great, do what you think is best.

You're trolling right? You brought your bitcoin 2 years ago and 7 months ago a $18,000 per bitcoin happens and you didn't sell it for good do you even know how much your profit would be if you sell it at that moment?
Or do you even brought 2 years ago, because obviously 2 years ago bitcoin has only started getting more and more interest and in that time the value of bitcoin is ranging over $450 the lowest and $1,145 the highest now you saying that you brought some at that moment and you didn't even sold it. That's a $10,000 difference right there dude c'mon.

I know that feeling, it is okay because it's your first bitcoin but I know someday you can trade it or sell it, either of the two. For me, I sold my first bitcoin because I need money to help my mother and also my financial in my studies that's why I have no choice but to sell it. :(

Generally the feeling is not that much as it is virtual . But say if it was a physical form like you have a car, bike which is owned by you for the first time the feeling is very emotional and you never want to sell it off. So in this virtual world the attachment may not be the that real.

I know that feeling when you don't want to sell your bitcoins. Before i was so afraid to sell my bitcoins but circumstances comes in life and i needed to exchange my bitcoins. But now, i am earning bitcoins and i am not afraid anymore to sell it or not. The cryptocurrency market is slowly falling down but i believe that bitcoin will rise again.

Yeah, this happen to me during my first months but when I see the peak last year, I let go my emotion and have some profit. Sometimes you need to know the market situation, holding is ok but always look for the opportunity of a dump market and sold if its pumping.

I think it is normal to get emotionally attached by bitcointalk or something else, example if you have 10 btc then you save the 1 btc for remembrance well that's okay  ;D, but if you only have one think twice it may get worth less someday, it much bbetter for you to roll it to become bigger.

It is hard for me to sell my bitcoins because i work hard just to earn it. Maybe it is normally emotionally binded because you work hard for it just like regular investors on how they invest in bitcoin. But i sold my bitcoin because i needed money for my daugther's needs. It is worth the wait to sell your bitcoins with a purpose rather than selling it without any reason.

Thats true we are emotionally attached from our bitcoins,because we already know that it has great potential that it will grow more in the right time.As times passess by and adoption will increas possibilities would be demand will grow more as well as the price,and i see that its worth the wait.

No not really bound. I mean I have sold many times in terms of satoshi's whenever I needed to do so. If there is need of money or if there good high point where selling becomes more important than holding then yes I have sold them immediately. But I always refill my quota afterwards whenever the prices dump to their bottom for that specific period and thus keep the liquidity of my bitcoin. I am really not emotionally bound to the bitcoin and if I would have been there might have been many more bitcoins seating in my wallet right now.  :P

such occurrences are just a few people who experience, most likely you are wrong in determining the target market, I myself have used some of the bitcoin for use in everyday life.

Anyhow it is quite normal to have an emotional attachment with your investment. And of course Bitcoin is no exception. But getting too much attached to a thing, it creates too much troubles at times. So it is advisable to learn the art of controlling your emotions especially when in the Cryptomania. It can sometimes work in an opposite direction and you may get too much hurt then!

Working smartly in the market is always preferable than being an emotional fool in this market. I hope it helps!!

That emotional affection is very common especially when the coin is very valuable and in this case it is the mother of all cryptocurrencies bitcoin. Nevertheless i think you can sell some portion of it when the price goes up once again but not this time because the price is very down off late.

Good for you then because it has an continuous increasing in value over time so you have a wonderful investment as of now but if you are too emotional attached to it then that's a bad thing because after all Bitcoin is still money and it's the root of all evil so getting attached to money has never been good.

I bought btc at $ 9000 and was waiting for it to come back but not selling. Btc has a lot of my emotions. emotional loss of money, very uncomfortable.

I still have less than a year in the crypto world and I have set up dates of my hodling time for each coin in my portfolio (subject to change if the coins go below investment price as I would not be willing to sell at a loss). But I do have a feeling it will be hard to sell my first Litecoin as it was the first crypto currency I ever invested in.

I understand what you mean cryptojack. You all know the golden rule that emotions should not be a part of our trades and decisions when it comes to trading, but sometimes it's just too hard to sell something after all the great memories that you had with this certain cryptocurrency or whatever thing it is  :D It's sad, but it's true. Once you sell it tho, you know that there is no going back and trust me, with time you'll start to feel better again. In the crypto world it's all about decisions, decisions and decisions.

You own that bitcoin, most especially that is your first bitcoin. But the most important thing is that you own it. So you can do all you want to it. But practically saying, its much better to trade it so that you can earn more bitcoin.

So fare I have only sold bitcoins for altcoins, so trading only, and most of the time when I buy altcoins with bitcoins I use new fiat to buy the same amount in bitcoins or sometimes even more.

My plan are to hodl my bitcoins the next 10-15 years or more.

There are investors like you who have that kind of attachment to their first investment. We don't have the same way of attachment because I did HODL before but decided to use it to fulfill a dream. But I am happy with my decision. We all have a different way of using or hodling our crypto assets. And I am glad that there are HODLERS.

I think that this depends on the individual investment strategy. Someone is always buying bitcoin all the time. And someone can buy cheaper, then sell expensive, and then buy again cheaper.

Idea is good. You can save 1 bitcoin for memory and after 10-20 years give your private key to your children.

It has nothing to do with emotions on weather to sell your bitcoins or not, it all depends on your trading goals. Do you intend to hold for long or sell at short interval. If your strategy is a long term profit, then is ok to leave it for long before selling.

Bitcoin is money. I don't usually get attached to money. I don't even understand being emotionally attached to a Bitcoin: it's digital, you can't put behind a piece of glass like you can do with your first penny or else. You can keep it, hoping that, I don't know, maybe one day the whole wallet will be valuable due its date

Bitcoin is a risky currency and being too much attached with it wont be good in the long run as it will go through ups and downs and it could take a toll on your health. Also Bitcoin isn't regulated yet so there is going to be some struggle and fight until then. I hope you at least sell Bitcoin worth your initial investment.

Some people keep their first banknotes they have earned doing their first jobs so maybe it makes sense to keep your first Bitcoin if you are getting a salary in crypto instead of fiat that is. Otherwise I wouldn't be too emotional about some virtual token whose main purpose is speculative trading. Physical Bitcoin coins are nice though. I would keep one of those  ;D

This is right, so depends on your goals if selling or holding long term. Even we invest for the for the very first time in bitcoin it is our own decisions if we are going to hold for long term to have our own profit. The important is never be greedy because it will affects our profit.

How can I store bitcoin? This is in fact not owned THE very FIRST BITCOIN. It's just digital data on the world wide web and nothing more. So I think the emotional attachment here is excessive.

I, personally, don't get so much attached to bitcoin as I realize that it's  just some sequence of code, but I still prefer holding it for ideological reasons. I believe that bitcoin should eventually replace fiat money and my holding of the coin is and act of support. 

I think that an investor, you should not put much of your own feelings into the virtual currency you invest, it is important that investors make a profit from it. I think you keep bitcoin for 2 years is a good thing and now it has helped you make a lot of profit with it.

Some people use to buy memorable gift from his first month salary.You had such emotion with the bitcoin ,which you had brought first.I had sold my first brought bitcoin for dollars and holding 1$ from that trade with emotionally bound till now.It will be common among the people.Nothing wrong with this holding bitcoin,but you have to trade continuously for the profit.

The emotions are the worst enemies of a trader it is said. So from this phrase I would suggest that never become emotioanlly attached to your asset and when you have the ability to profit from it, just do it.

I had got the same feeling as you.I was so excited when I received my first bitcoin.whenever I tried to sell that,my heart refrained me to do so.Don't know but a kind of emotion worked at that time. Later I make myself realized  that its a kind of business and business don't run with emotions.So I had sold my btc and have made a pretty good amount of btc now by trading.
Main thing is, having those emotions are obvious,but don't go with emotions

I like my coins. I know it sounds weird but there's a relationship between a holder and his money. They're treated like a collection. If the collection becomes worthless I'll still keep it as a reminder of what it used to be. Of course a huge increase in value might make me sell but for now I'll keep holding.

Your situation will greatly help you in investing for a long time))) Sooner or later your first bitcoin will grow in value so that your emotional feelings of a nostalgic nature will be replaced by emotions associated with the purchase of a new house or car. If you have bought bitcoin like 2 years ago then you are still in the positive side. So it only make sense that you are still not thinking of selling it although its better if you at least sold the half during the December madness of 2017.


The good part is that you hold it for such a long time that you are still getting profits by today. But you should use some strategy on how to take advantage of bitcoin and make a lot of money. Just saying.

Bitcoin is an investment for me and you cannot get emotional with it and if you do so then you are likely to make loss in long term as I was holding my bitcoin since 2016 but when I saw $19k price on the charts it took no time for me to sell my bitcoins and collect the profits as I bought them at very low price in the past which was below $1k and if I would be holding till date then I would hate myself for not selling them at a right time.

It's too hard for me to part with my coins, I think there are many. A bitcoin is more than a coin, especially the first one. He is the personification of freedom and money.

You are lucky if you bought two years ago.
I bought my first bitcoin 4 years ago but i sold it a long time ago.. i really regret about that

yes but I sold out very long ago. but that was my first exchnge.  this helps me to financially strong. but I am still emotionaly bound towards bitcoin. I am stored bitcoin now.  it is actully a great way to earning for unemployee people.

Bitcoin is an asset and at that it potential is in holding it for a long term. I have the same experience where I was emotionally attached to my bitcoin and I see it as an investment mean for future use so at that am not selling it now, I believe at the to.e I will want to sell it the price will be more then what we have now.

Im still lucky that i sold my first bitcoin when the pruce atill high.but after that i buy again bht small amount when the price $10000 and now i need to hodl because if i will sell i will lose.so better to wait again to the right time when the pruce down.im lil stress because of the price but need to move on and wait for long time maybe.

If you bought bitcoin 2years ago, then you have made a lot profit already. I got involved 4yrs ago, and ever since then,  I have been buying and selling ( Trading).
I've always learned to be greedy when it comes to trading/holding crypto.

Yep, I have some positive emotion with Bitcoin and one of my friends. A few years ago we have bought one coin, and saving them for nowadays. It is great memories with my friend and Bitcoin. When we get together we always remember this day and thanking each other for that.

Well to be honest we get really attached to whatever we are holding for a long time be it shares or cryptos or any kind of physical stuff , but for the investors and traders money speaks louder then emotions a serious trader will always have respect towards the crypto or whatever he is dealing with but won’t get emotionally attached to it , at the end money matters more then emotions.

If this is your first investment in any kind of investments then yes its normal to be attached a bit with the bitcoin , but for us the old traders it was nothing more than mere money and profit and I just sold it off for the profit but I remember the date and the first transaction of my crypto exchange.

cryptos are really very fun and adventurous to handle , profit is just the second part of it , the first thing is the fun involved in the whole process of trading whether you buy or mine it.

The thing you are speaking about blockchain applications being what Internet applications is today will definitely happen according to me but the point is when..??? in 1 year , 2 years , 5 years or 20 years , it will happen and the bitcoin or crypto holders will stuck gold but the time will decide the price it is pretty useless to hold a bitcoin for 20-25 years and keep on waiting for such days to hit gold rather I will cashout as soon as I see some good profit of my cryptos.

Same for me emotions and business are two different things and cant mix properly if they do then the consequences to the profits and losses can be drastic , getting emotionally attached to our shares or cryptos can harm our pockets pretty hard , well respecting the existence of cryptos and crypto trade I will love to hold and sell them at profit rather then getting emotionally attached to them.

Bitcoin has become a part of me since i started joining in this forum. It changed my life a lot as to the way i look in the future as far as financial worries are concern. It made me a better person on how to manage my time and crypto assets but there are really tough times that i never expect to happen that i know selling my bitcoin is the only last resort that i have to sort things of. But fortunately, the dip of 5,000$ has signaled me to buy bitcoin again and im happy holding it now.

Why don't you just try it, it could make you better if it was on a drop, yeah noone want the drops show up but it could give you a better emotion, the freedoms without fears or scares.

I do not think there is quite the point in holding them anything else than profit, my personal emotion is almost negligible to business.
Only thing that keeps me from selling is the current price and probably questioning my faith on the potential of bitcoin like "what if the price will be higher, there is better amount of profit - stuff", none other than that including emotional bond is not really in my mind.

Indeed I can not deny if you are so in love and do not want to lose your bitcoin. I appreciate you that you are a loyal person in keeping bitcoin for long term. But emotionally, it is not good, I see yourself as a rigid person. You should be a flexible person only. You can play more actively with your bitcoin. You can sell your bitcoin when the price soars and buy again when the price is down and easy to reach. Emotionally attached to a currency? I think in terms of bitcoin that could be normal, specially if you have gotten a physical coin embeded with bitcoin address. But for the ordinary currency, I think that is not normal at all. There are people that are so attached to their holding that they tend to collect more and more bitcoin rather than to use it. That is why the word HODL were been created to pinpoint those people attitude. It is also normal for people to remember the first thing that they bought using their bitcoin and even the first time they have acquired bitcoin.

From what I first think about it, it seems to be impractical to this but then I realize that we sometimes fear that if we sell them, it will be hard to come back. I don't feel any emotional attachment to investments or money in General. This is just a means to buy any things or entertainment. And the sentiment interfere with business.

I have never sold my bitcoins, because I stick to investing in the long term. So my first bitcoin is still with me.

Sticking to Bitcoin is possible if you are financially buoyant, you can hold even when there is a rise in the price, for me I tend to take profit and  invest into aLTCOIN, But I ensure I hold a certiain amount  of Bitcoin everytime. I believe strongly about in Bitcoin and the fundamentals.

You must think relevant, in using feelings too deep, remember. bitcoin has a very big risk, if you love it too much, if for example you experience a loss one day you will experience depression, and you might kill yourself. WTF  :D

No actually there is no sense on getting attached to bitcoin unless you brought an expensive bitcoin and until now you are still not getting the amount you invested on bitcoin because of its market price fall down. A huge dip for bitcoin is happening and this is alarming also for the crypto investors.

Im not totally emotionally bound but Im more on having a hard time deciding whether to hold or sell because of the way I think we or mostly of us have this kind of habit that is so undecisive on whether what we should do to our token. Just be mindful and do a research if you think you arent sure whether its good to hold it for a long time. i do feel the same, holding is make us feels good and also make us doubt what we do, we keep expecting that we would sell it at the good price but i think its not good, you should set a goal when to sell so it would make you sure to earn money and also try to divide it would be good, maybe half for day trading and half for hold for long term.

I'm not exactly "emotionally bound" to bitcoin. I wouldn't care at all and will sell my bitcoins right away at a high price. As a matter of fact, I don't mind cashing out all of it now if I need to because I accumulated them in a much lower price. The only thing, though, why would I sell them when I don't have to? This is why I'm still holding even my first whole bitcoin. I only sell when I have to. There are times when I feel like I wanna treat myself for a lunch out at a fancy restaurant, and so I cash out some of my bitcoins. There are times I want to reward myself for something, so I do.

I think all of us are waiting for the 20k$ price again. We are holding as long as we can. But it's very important to have a taste of some of the fruits of your own labor. This way, you will be more motivated. You would feel refreshed and will feel a lot less burned out.

Getting emotionally attached to money or an investment is a wrong move and shouldn't be encourage with the whole "Holding scheme". As investors,  we're to see every investment we participate in as a vehicle, leading us to our final destination (financial freedom).  Every investor should have a plan (strategy) and when you hit (reach) that target follow your plan (if it involves cashing out do that). Don't get emotional attached.
Just an advice: if you notice you're getting emotionally attached to an investment whether it be Crypto, stock or whatever, it is safer to cash out immediately to take some break or just move on to something else you're not emotionally attached to.

Holding is a great policy but you should also consider selling it in the next bull run.

I feel no emotional attachment... in fact I tend to dislike bitcoin as it is the rich people coin. A coin that is controlled by whales and which purpose is getting less and less important as other coins rise up to do faster and cheaper transactions...

In some particular events, some people chooses to hold and look for long term gains, they are aiming to see how high bitcoin can go and how things will change their lives, it mentions that the surprise take many people become wealthy and if that trend happens again it will be much higher, we dont know when it will happen and how things will turned our investment but if OP believes i holding no problem with that gain will be sweeter for sure.

You have held it for 2 years so I know how those years make you more attached to it. I can only see 1 pro and con to this. The pro is it will make you hold to it much longer until it becomes $100k each and the con is you can't do short term trades which will maximize the profit.  It was just a year after I got my bitcoin and I just sold it.
