A great way to generate buzz would be to somehow reveal the private key of the Bitcoins from space as a sort of a contest. The winner will be the first person to load the private key and spend the coins to their own wallet.

Would this even be possible?

The plan is to have more than one wether balloon. One to ascend and the second to descend. We want  maximum time in the stratosphere and want 100% control throughout the entire mission so we will have controlled thrusters . This mission will  a lot of fun but more importantly will thrust bitcoin further into greatness and main stream attention

I don't Care if anyone donates and i am not begging for money. I do these missions all the time for fun out of my pocket. I am just offering Advertising space to cover some cost of the launch. This mission will further bitcoin into mainstream and will help anyone holding BTC so I don’t think it’s too much to ask for people to help out with the cost of supply’s needed to accomplish this mission

Even if not one person donates .I will launch the Bitcoin flag into space and will show the world Bitcoin has no boundaries. Bitcoin does not get held back and will be thrusted into the sky for the world to see. I know sounds kind of corny but I believe in Bitcoin and gets me all emotional. That’s why we are all here. We believe in Bitcoin and its ability to change the world for the better

Well launching on a balloon makes it possible but most people do not think of balloon height as space (even though Felix Baumgartner does!).

Balloons get half way to space.

Wait, what! How did I get to post 10 and not sme... Nevermind! Have a cold.

Meanwhile, there's this other guy trying to scam the community by trying to get a Bitcoin-themed banner into the Super Bowl. Don't know what that crazy fuck is up to, but to date he's using his own money and not asking for any bitcoins. Somebody better keep an eye on him. I wouldn't be surprised to learnt that he goes to Las Vegas and wears a pink tutu. One crazy fucked up dude, I say.

Cannot be offensive or in any way reflect badly on Bitcoin
Is "Americans will destroy you!" in traditional Chinese considered offensive?
If I donate 1 satoshi, what size font do I get?

Could I get "Sell your sister and her stash on Silkroad 2.0 get BTC!!!"
I was mostly joking from the getgo.

No. this mission is about bringing Bitcoin into the light . Not casting a dark shadow over it with more negative publicity. We as a community must help overcome the negative stigmas attached to Bitcoin mainly in part by silk road ect.

You do know the history and reasoning behind peer2peer technologies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peer_to_peer#Historical_development)?

Torrents = Designed from the beginning for copyright content.
Bitcoin = Designed from the beginning for illegal/anonymous transactions.

The bright eyed/bushy tailed people like you can try all you want to push BTC for legal purposes but like lawful torrents, those lawful purposes will always play second string.

The problem is not a lack of knowledge about BTC, it is a lack of advantage for the consumer.
Most people get paid in fiat, and fiat is accepted for anything they need.
There is little incentive to convert that fiat to BTC so you can stand in a store scanning a qr code or creating a qr code to send some money(the consumer pays the fee for the privilege to be inconvenienced during checkout.)

Just want more from Bitcoin than its past. I look to the future and hope it can be more . Yes , I hear you about the Darker side of BTC and that's ok. That's the Great thing about it. It is so universal it can be one thing to you and another for me but even though we share different views .We are sill united together behind Bitcoin. Its like both of us liking the color Blue . One may like Navy blue and one like sky blue . We still both like blue  :D

As a kid I always DREAMED of being an astronaut .When I got older the passion never faded. Even though I may never travel to space .I can always send my personal cameras in space and get a glimpse of the unknown. A small glimpse into the void. The things we hold as value here on earth GOLD, Fiat, and yes bitcoin. There is a wealth in knowledge up there amongst the stars. As a species we need to get our priorities in check and start looking to the stars for real wealth. We must trying to reach into space and expand our species footprint in this universe and others. I do believe Bitcoin or its predecessors will be the currency in space. Mathematics is the language of the universe thus communication between other life forms not of the earth would be relatively easy within ones and zero’s.
I also believe that the real value of the future will be life. The ability to live thousands of years. We use wealth to better our lives but really deep down isn’t the overall goal is life extension?

This reminds me of the kids who wanted to launch a communications satellite to counter the threat of an internet kill switch on one of the threads here.  Hell, it couldn't cost more than a million bucks could it?

That said, it does seem that some young and low budget folks did some kind of cool stuff and impressive stuff with a balloon one time iirc.

I promise you this launch will be he largest Mainstream push for BTC in 2014. This mission is going to be a neural handshake to the masses welcoming them to the Bitcoin family . That's all we need to do is put it into space post video to YouTube and let Fox news and the rest work for us from their. So far we have two donations . We will see their graphic logos on the shuttle next to the bitcoin flag. Thank you again for your donations but we have a ways to go before launch. If you believe in Bitcoin and share in my desire to reach the masses consider a donation. Thank you all in advance

No one else smells a scam here?
Not enough experienced members viewed it I guess..
Whenever I see a new member asking for donations to his project, I smell a scam.

I'm not saying that this is a scam, I hope that this project becomes a success, but we will see.

My website bicoinsniper.com has been  helping for years helping new people find bitcoin. The website provides a place for people to compare ASIC devices. It gets thousands of visits a day. I would not risk my Websites REP over a scam

A model rocket would be more exciting but to do so just as a rough figure you would be looking at 15k easy.
multi stage rocket 3k+,2 x O class HPR motors 2.5-3k,video equipment 2k+?,GPS tracking & other electronics 2k. Have a physical bitcoin to deploy on ejection.

Then you would need to be certified/licensed to let off such a bad boy and FAA permitted.
Could blow out to 20-25k  :o or just contact someone from tripoli (rocket association) see if there up for the challenge.

Great news. Now I will be able to view the btc flag in space when I'm on my Space Flight with Virgin Atlantic *Dreams*. Seriously this is pretty cool, if anything this is going to stir around some free publicity for bitcoin. If only I had the capital to create a buzz event for bitcoin as cool as this--you'd be seeing bitcoin blimps all across the states.

Negative. Trying a new approach. Using two weather balloons with modified /Gases to get further without blowing the balloons. After balloon burst will be using additional light weight thruster options to get us further. Keep in mind this is mission 1 . Goal is just to put bitcoin flag into space and capture the event in high definition with 360 degrees of coverage. Our craft won’t weigh no more than 2-5 pounds. Will be supported by not 1 but two parachute for reentry. To have 100% mission control we will be using real time satellite tracking and controlled thrusters to guide craft on reentry to limit damage to rig. We will have further missions to accomplish more Bitcoin related activity in space

I am not asking just for FREE donation . I am asking for a little help on cost of the material needed to create the craft that carry's the flag to space. I am also offering people who donate advertisement space. People who donate get the option to put anything on the hull of the craft. We will be recording  the hull of the craft the entire mission so millions of people will see your logo or advertisement as it goes to space with bitcoin flag. The logo or advertisement cannot be something obscene or ha might reflect negatively on Bitcoin. I encourage people to think of creative logos to go to space . Cancer awareness?World peace? Stop world hunger?  Your Business Logo? Ask someone to marry you?Your Bitcoin address? You are only limited by your imagination. I do a little graphic design so if you need help putting your logo idea into reality  just send me an email and i will help support@bitcoinsniper.com

You could get a ton of Amateur Radio operators around the world interested in Bitcoin if you were to put an APRS beacon on the balloon. You will need to get an amateur radio license to legally transmit the beacon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automatic_Packet_Reporting_System
http://www.aprs.fi

I'm curious what you will be using to transmit the live video data from the balloon? A cellular data connection will not work after ~5000 feet for a variety of reasons. I'm pretty sure your only two options would be to use a satellite data connection (which would be very expensive for live video), or broadcasting the video with an Amateur Radio ATV transmitting setup (again, which you would need a ham radio license for).

If you have any questions, shoot me a PM.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but, weather balloons can only go to the 'edge of space' as its sometimes called. As far as I know, they are not capable of putting anything in orbit, so any flag attached to a weather balloon would reach the edge of space and then just fall back down to earth again. To put a bitcoin flag into orbit would require an actual rocket of sorts.

Satellite video data connection is the only one that seems the most viable but we are still testing some cellular data connections. Don’t be surprised to see several live video channels live one launch day. We are leaning on having several live video sources and if one fails at certain altitude then we can switch to alternative channels

Yes , It is technically space were we are headed on this mission. We plan on buying our own satellites for the next mission and piggy backing off another company that is launching their satilght. It is cheaper to launch several satellites at once. Our Next mission will be titled “Bitcoin first independent satellite in space”. Its function will be to broadcast the block chain without any internet connection 100% self-reliant bitcoin network

Global Bitcoin promotional Video.  A Bitcoin Documentary on the Bicoin Global scene and the Launch of the first Bitcoin flag into space.  launching the bitcoin flag into Space. Yes, First Bitcoin Flag into SPACE. We want to cover the essence of the Bitcoin community and expand on the future of Bitcoin. Promote and  share  the greatness of bitcoin community and its superior currency solution. Please donate bitcoin to the project here 1HNNi6EPCxRsHUpGESZXoFr9qpWqiLeY8L

If you do donate you can request to put any image you desire on the Craft that takes bitcoin flag into space: Logos ,Pictures you name it We will put it into SPACE

Email all images to be placed on craft to support@bitcoinsniper.com include your email address in donation

Limited space on Craft So donate Now

Launch will take place in April 2014 or later depending on weather

The launch into space will be recorded in High definition and craft will have 4 cameras mounted on it. Two of which will record the hull as it reaches space.

More info Here: http://www.bitcoinsniper.com/contact-us/about-us/bitcoin-space-race/

Want to be apart of the project let me know. Have some good ideas Let me know

What will the launch vehicle be?

The plan is to have more than one wether balloon. One to ascend and the second to descend. We want  maximum time in the stratosphere and want 100% control throughout the entire mission so we will have controlled thrusters . This mission will  a lot of fun but more importantly will thrust bitcoin further into greatness and main stream attention
Forgive me for doubting the ability of someone who can't spell "weather" to send a balloon to the edge of space.

Even ignoring that fact, advertising this as sending something to "space" shows a lack of understanding at best, dishonesty at worst.

Finally, even if this did happen, it would get about as much attention as any one of the hundreds of other weather balloons that have been launched with a gopro attached, which is just short of none at all.

I beg to differ, anything with the name bitcoin in it will get attention atm, especially something like this. It's kinda of a bummer that it's not going to space though.

Don't know how to break this to you, but a balloon can't reach space. You can't even leave the stratosphere with that.

still have more LOGO room on the craft

Odd, someone with supposedly enough money to build his own space launch vehicle and aquire NASA and FAA launch certifications is asking for BTC donations...

PS.
Ambitious website indeed, send a flag into space without any available launch vehicle, additionally promoting some 2/4THs ASICs supposedly packed into liquid cooled PC cases aiming for 2014 delivery (advertised with really bad photoshop skills using the stock case advertisement images - but order & pay now, only 17.5 BTC *lol* )

Everything here screams scammer right into my face.

The guy would be better off asking for donations to get into a "How to effectively use Photoshop" course, after the images I saw so far - heck, that'd come along fully legit right from the start :P
Any leftovers then could be used for "back to scamming school" that he apparently failed several times.

PPS.
Absolutely classy, asking for donations starting with "selfish bitcoin holders [...]".

Why don't you read each post on this thread before you post and show how lazy you are. I love when people post on other peoples threads without reading the entire thread. I have covered in DETAIL the mission parameters .  Why don't you do something useful and create something for bitcoin before slamming other peoples ideas and ventures. Oh wait i know because people like you cannot create anything. They can only bitch and whine about other peoples ideas

You're asking for the impossible , just like having a balloon into space.

lol, whenever you ask him specifically what he's testing or to provide any evidence that this project is actually under way (like photos maybe?) he ignores you, and then now he stomps his feet and goes home because nobody will blindly give him money for his pie in the sky fantasy of sending the bitcoin flag and world peace stickers into "space".

Just out of politeness, read each of your posts.

BS...
BS...
Bollocks...
Bad Photoshop...
We'll use thrusters to get higher...
BS...
More bad Photoshop...
BS...
After we're done, we're going to the MOON! <----- (seriously WTF?!)
BS...
Even more bad Photoshop...
More empty promises...
BS...
More BS...
Blah blah...

So here we got it.
I don't bitch or complain about your primitive scam attempts (I count that fake donation drive and fake custom ASIC miners on that cheaply done website as two seperate scam attempts), it's just ludicrous enough to laugh about (hence my comment "back to scamming school").
Lots of delusional blah blah, not a single bit of proof about anything, more blah blah and empty/meaningless claims. Basically it's just pathetic. If the spot wasn't already taken, you could make it into Wikipedia definition of "pathetic" as an example.
And your reaction is just as typical of a scammer cockroach being given the flashlight as always.

Being useful (that's just me and my opinion) includes spotting scams/BS and once a while point a finger at it to protect all-but-too-gullible Bitcoin holders.
If you want people to applaud your scamming ideas, scamming school might just do the trick, maybe your scamming colleagues or instructor like your innovative idea.

Technically speaking you're even right, after all just about 95% of everything revolving around BitCoin is either scamming/easy skinning or at least finding greater fools. So sending a scam into space could be seen as a noble quest to signal the massive human trust issue that got more visible with BitCoin than even Wall St. could have ever thrown it into people's faces. At least their schemes are usually well-designed and the entry fee keeps the cheap mudders away that we see here every day.

PS.
Could it be this isn't even Photoshop? It's so bad I reckoned some of it actually could be MS Paint.

The fact that his Photoshopped images have the flag on the side tells us he knows nothing of gravity/physics.

I suspect my idea (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=360702.0) would arouse infinitely more interest in BTC.

lol of course not...

The only thing that this guy hoped to go to space was his donation wallet for his fake projects (basically they all involve some 3rd class photoshop to advertise any fake he can come up with).
He is persistent in scamming attempts though, too bad he never got around to put in that energy into something real.

I am sorry i am very busy. At least i try and put things together and figure out ways to creatively promote Bitcoin instead if constantly putting other people down for trying to do something different .
