I'm just thinking if bitcoin is the future itself, why would you bother of thinking the future of bitcoin?

Well I would say that bitcoin has a good future because it started so well you know,and I think btc will just get better and better,and as it gets better more people start to use it.So I think btc's future is looking bright.

If you compare with other coins, it seems to me that the future of bitcoin is the most promising. Even if we assume that the crisis in the crypto-currency market will be longer than everyone expected bitcoin will remain a coin with the greatest confidence so capital can move from altcoins to bitcoin and this will make it the most tenacious.

I agree. Bitcoin is the best choice for us to make in terms of long-term coin and trusted coin as well. Yes maybe it undergoes and pass through any crisis, still it proves that they can solve any problems and those failures? They make sure that they can change and surpass it. It is the first ever virtual currency and always on top since the old days. It is known now as the King of crypto currency world. It is the best recommendation for people who assume to have a good investments and bigger profits.

Being volatile is simply caused due to bitcoin(and other cryptocurrencies) being very very new, and due to only a small percentage of people owning it. Hence, the prices are easily manipulated and or affected by just someone making a big buy/sell offer. Hopefully though, that the volatility will be less and less as we go in to the future as hopefully more people will own it, and also as the mining reward significantly decreases multiple times as the years go by.

Had bitcoin been used as currency only; there will not have been any volatility in it's price.  In my opinion the bitcoin was invented not for investment purpose but to make the transactions payment convenient. 

Immediately after it's invention ; due to it's attractive features; more and more people attracted towards it.  The demand was rising day by day.  Due to limited supply and increasing demand the price increased.

Then there was entry of speculators; which converted bitcoin like stock market share.  They have earned very huge profits by speculative deals.  Again they will repeat their previous job.  And bull / bear phases of bitcoin price will always make it volatile.

I think in near future btc or other good crypto will be used widely. And regulation will make crypto safer. Crypto and fiat will be used side by side. No one will harm each other. It is said that btc will be at ATM in 2018. I think btc may exceed 30k in the end of 2018. It is just my opinion. Not any investment advice.

Shortcomings you say... sure there are some, like with any technology. Still a lot of room for improvements.
Close to 10 years of development, lots of obstacles behind and probably more ahead but saying that some clones will take over is just wrong.
Most of the problems you mentioned are dealt through segwit anyway and I'm more than sure that more elegant solutions are already planned or at the least being thought about in dev headquarters. Have faith, without it nothing can prevail, not even gold.

No one really knows the future of bitcoin, whatever that we see on the internet is just a speculation. Bitcoin really is going to make great breakthroughs with the blockchain system in a few years. Most of the governments in this direction take the decision to implement. But now the people are also staying away because of the decline and the life. We'll wait and see.

As you say Bitcoin is a pioneering Cryptocurrency, so it has many bugs as well as disadvantage. In addition, the advantage of Bitcoin is that it interferes with its development - Consensus. If Bitcoin does not reach a consensus of 50% of the community then it can not be changed, with this reason so the new generations Cryptocurrency will be created with the intention of being better than Bitcoin.

But so is every other market. Stocks, Bonds guaranteed by debt ridden governments and gold. All of them. The difference is the size of the bubble.

Hi there main320! Have you see the bitcoin price lately, after December fall the bitcoin price doesn't move much. That means the bitcoin price is quite stable by now. But since it has a huge value, people see its volatility as a huge change even if the price hike or decrease is a couple of percents only. Yes indeed, bitcoin price is so volatile, but it couldn't be the only reason why people are not fond of it. There are several private companies that are accepting bitcoin as a payment but there are still more of them that don't see bitcoin as a future. However, even you see the price charts from the past until now, bitcoin price is still considered climbing rather than declining.

People always say investment but invest conflicts with volatility generally.   Volatility is more like gambling or extreme speculation activity and beneficial to those want to benefit from that large change in pricing.  
Bitcoin by itself is not an investment, not really as it gives no yield by itself.   The fees are set to mining not holders, thats set apart. Its a deflationary currency standard as opposed to Dollar reserve which is largely inflationary and same for YEN and EURO which is all three major world currencies certain to lose money but they are also less volatile then Bitcoin so are very much favoured for investment purposes.

The areas of the market moving into Bitcoin now are speculative activity based like the investment or merchant banks who would fund commodity type activity also highly volatile at times.     All this movement is probably motivated by instability in dollar which makes Bitcoin more favourable in comparison then it might be otherwise.
