Beacuase it's an older coin widely accepted by many people over the world. But it may be changes as people start using other coins.Like Monero on dark web. Where BTC volume reduce and Monero volume increased.

Discussions like this really to me, are not what is needed in the crypto space now because its about whipping up unnecessary sentiments over a sleeping matter. Bitcoin has grown over the years to start competing with other alt coin projects that have relied on doing things better in other to boost the entire crypto space which I believe that putting sentiment aside, its all about the same objective which is making crypto mainstream and any promotion on either bitcoin or alt, the effect is felt on both. I see people researching the history of the development of bitcoin and they conclude that bitcoin is good to defend from other Altcoins. besides that many assume that the emergence of all altcoins originated from the emergence of Bitcoin. so they believe bitcoin is more valuable than other cryptocurrency.

While the Bitcoin network isn't hacked yet, but a cracker can steal it by hacking an exchange, which has happened many times since MT.Gox incident. I don't really see any direct correlation between the highest market cap on the market with the price of BTC.



Define "many"? I don't think even 1% of people in this world (that is, around 60 million) use Bitcoin. Even the number of users of Bitcointalk is only around ~2 million. Bitcoin is not yet adopted by many. On the other hand, looks like blockchain will have a bright future because mass-adoption is currently on-going.

because other cryptocurrencies have different specs and different does not mean better. in fact sometimes different means worse. for example an altcoin with faster blocks seems like having better specs but in reality it is worse because it is decreasing the chances of a better decentralization since running a node will be that much harder. (try running a ETH node and you will understand agonoy)


no he won't be a billionaire because first of all price would fall and secondly he will be a thief and can be arrested. not to mention that if bitcoin were hacked someday all the altcoins would be hacked also because they are using the same technology more or less.

This is simply false. The probability of bitcoin being lost just because it's sent to a wrong address is very high. Also bitcoin being lost to theft, I'm pretty sure a good number of people has their BTC stolen in the past through malware or social engineering attacks.

Definitely, because it is the first cryptocurrencies that appears in the market therefore it is much more stable and has a strong foundation than the other cryptos. There's a facts that there are some other cryptos that has a better specs, actually, all cryptocurrencies has a different platforms and have their own capabilities but when it compared to bitcoin they can never be reach the better platforms that bitcoin it has. As far i know Bitcoin is the first coin in the world of crypto and also it is the most trusted coin and also many shop and automobiles accept only bitcoin .

Why you don't specify the coins that you said that has "better specs"  than bitcoin if really there is.?  If there is other cryptocurrency which has better specs than bitcoin, then bitcoin will possibly dissolved like a shitcoin,  but there is none. Maybe you are just imagining things from a different dimension.

The limit has actually been tested lol. Remember December 2017? People have always known that there were scalability problems but they haven't really manifested until then. It doesn't matter that they were possibly spam attacks, because it should be invulnerable to those anyway.

But yeah I kinda get what you mean. No cryptocurrency has ever really been hacked itself,but many others are potential or even actualized victims of pump and dump and/or 51% attacks. Bitcoin has also generally been faring better than the rest of the market considering its increasing dominance in this bearish climate, which indicates strong trust relative to the others.

In the end, its big community will mean more resources, more stability, and better future outlook that can't really be beaten by marginally faster processing times and/or a little more scalability (there's no coin that can claim to be heads and shoulders above Bitcoin in every aspect). Those can be overcome with technological improvements anyway, of which plenty are planned in the future.

If a person or government hacked bitcoin then that person will not become a billionaire since the trust in bitcoin will be lost and its worth will be zero, despite the huge leap in technology that is bitcoin, bitcoin is still a currency and it needs to follow the same principles that any currency follows.

Trust is the most important aspect of a currency, that is why the US dollar is still the number one currency despite the fact that is being printed too fast but once that confidence is lost the currency collapses, even gold is subject to that, what it happens to gold is that it has been money that has lasted for thousands of years which is why it is trusted by people, and bitcoin even if it is very young is getting that kind of trust very rapidly as well.

First mover's advantage. Usually, people cling on to something that has proven itself over a period of time instead of trusting a new growing fad that usually points out to being doubted by people. Also, bitcoin's infrastructures are arguably larger than any other cryptocurrencies out there, which gives the fact that people behind the said infrastructures would do everything on their power just to ensure that the value wouldn't go down to a point where profitability is no longer possible. As you said, specs don't really attract the typical investors nowadays since this is not the age of enthusiasts but rather the masses for cryptocurrencies. Whatever is the hit coin, they'll invest in it and hope to make a fortune, and bitcoin hasn't left the spotlight one bit, so there's that.

I mean what are you trying to say , currency hacking , really , Bitcoin hacking !!!! , you can hack the wallets which holds bitcoin and thats it , you own the bitcoin. In case of a bank fraud , have you ever seen cash hacking , its the hacking of banks systems. These happens with all currency i think , if you dont keep your wallet safe , yours will be hacked and you will losse assets. And one last thing , the hacking probability of all the currency are equal. Yes, I think of that too. Bitcoin is already been rooted deep in every investor's mind and heart. The trust snd reliability is with this coin. Though there are new potential ones and more are already using it, but still, I know the investor's top choice is still the bitcoin.

I am sure that Satoshi Nakamoto was think about all aspect before he create bitcoin, many people said that ETH is better than Bitcoin but now what? Even blockchain bloat of Eth is getting close to bitcoin although ETH is new cryptocurrency. It is indicates that what we call better specs maybe not really good and appropriate in real life.

In my opinion, I think bitcoin has much worth compared with the other altcoins considering that btc is the 1st ever digital currency that had made an extra mile achievement especially with the last quarter of 2017 where it had reached it's market value up to $20K USD. BTC has more supporters and investors as compared with the altcoins where until the current situation, more and more people are encourage to get involved with btc because they are seeing good profit once they had invested.

There are several reasons that make Bitcoin more valuable than other coins. Limited supply, difficult to mine, cryptocurrency first, and lastly, in my opinion, is already integrated into many Exchangers.

bitcoin is different from other digital currencies that have ever existed in this world. bitcoin has a decentralized concept, and there is no centralization in bitcoin, bitcoin is not like the USD controlled by the USA. bitcoin is also not printed like other fiat currencies.

I believe you are right,  btc is worth valuable than any other currencies since this is the only currency that can increase in multiple percentage with respect to price than any other currency. Btc is the baseline of the altcoins since it depends on btc's growth.

Many coins claims to have better specifications but that is false most of those coins are either centralized or a huge amount of the coins are in the possession of the creator of the coin, even with a huge amount of bitcoin that whales are holding the distribution of bitcoin has followed a more natural pattern, so it is a coin that we can actually use to purchase products and services unlike most of those coins claiming to be better.

If you ignore decentralization, you might as well say that Visa has better specs. It could also be that Bitcoin being the king in terms of marketcap and that is where Altcoins are pretty dependent on.

I'd say it has a lot to do with the fact that bitcoin paved way for the cryptocurrency to be born.  The vote of confidence is undeniable with bitcoin no matter how atlcoins re-invent themselves as a cryptocurrency and packs a few more power punches with them.

Truly, lots of other coins and tokens exist in the market that offers better specs and services than bitcoin, but their following is not enough to move out of the shadow of bitcoin more so after bitcoin peaked its all time high. Besides being the first cryptocurrency ever, bitcoin also proved it can be a worthy investing instrument. Just imagine the value it holds right now and all the speculative forecasts of the coming years. There are some things in life that the older they get, the more expensive they are but it is only applicable in certain items and bitcoin is one of them but then we are still unsure of what might be its price in the future if it would be able to sustain its price or not. Even though bitcoin is the oldest cryptocurrency and you can consider having the most basic technology, it is the most valuable because it is the most famous of them all and compared to others that are just existing for trading purposes, bitcoin has been used both as a cryptocurrency and an asset. Maybe for those who bought it last December then they would still be at a loss but for those who bought it earlier than that, they would still be in profit. As for me, I have known bitcoin two years ago wherein its value is lower than $500 so I am still in profit multiple times but unfortunately, I made some decisions that make me lose those coins.

The simple reason is that Most people who invest in bitcoin don't even know what it's all about or its Modus Operandi. These people think Bitcoin is a safe Haven and a quick fix out of poverty.

Because Bitcoin can be used as a store of value, which has been reflected in manny countries that are suffering from inflation.

Yes, this is very true. The fact that it was the first coin to mark the age of cryptocurrency is what makes BTC valuable and also because at is stands today the market cap prices for the rest of the coins are set by no other than BTC.

The market price of Bitcoin is determined by people with huge number of bitcoins. They either increase the supply rate of bitcoin or decrease the supply rate, which affects the market worth of bitcoin.

Don't you know that Bitcoin is unhackable and no one can do this even the greatest hackers cannot penetrate Bitcoin's Blockchain Network and its security that has been proven for almost a decade?
Bitcoin's Blockchain is used and run by millions of users worldwide(distributed ledger) on their own personal computers and this is one of the main reasons why Bitcoin is tamper proof and impossible to get hacked.

Bitcoin is the first use of it as currency. same time world realized that BTC is a currency & Payment gateway which solves most of problems in financial sector. Even a poorest can use BTC for buying some stuff for daily needs  when the concept is developed & comes in the practical level. As a asset it is adopted & supported by many experts, Tech companies, Researching institutes etc. Still ALTS cannot replace BTC as a asset with level & amount of adoption by the world.

Mind you short fluctuations can be devastating for Bitcoin holders as well. 3 days ago I had $1100 in btc, today it is less than $1000. Almost a $100 loss .. the bigger your holding .. the bigger you lose. Its crazy how much you lose when the prices in btc swing even just a little bit

Other cryptoccurency may have better specs than bitcoin but the question is, do they have the trust bitcoin has? Regardless of the specs of the other coins, bitcoin has already survived ten years and was the first one to be successful. This is the reason why bitcoin gain so many trust and still have people's trust even though new coins keep showing up with better version. Some wouldn't risk on something new when they already knew whom they can trust... The success of bitcoin results to new other crypto popping up. Because bitcoin were able to survive, thinking they can beat bitcoin or can be successful just like bitcoin, they'll make their own coins with better specs... Without bitcoin, other cryptoccurency are nothing.

ROFL... It is true that Bitcoin is not the most advanced cryptocurrency out there. After the creation of Bitcoin in 2009, we had the first second generation cryptocurrency in 2015 (Ethereum). And two years later, we had the first third generation cryptocurrency (Cardano). Now the question arises why they haven't replaced Bitcoin. The reason is that the users are not looking for a technologically better coin, but for a coin that can be trusted and is easy to use.

Yes, it's true, but if you look at the altcoins that will be invested the same amount of money, then when they fall, the same percentage will be lost. So it doesn't mean anything. But Bitcoin is trusted more than any other altcoins, as it is time-tested.

I don't think I agree with you on this. The basic reasons behind why bitcoin is more valuable than other cryptocurrencies are;
1. Bitcoin introduced blockchain technology which led to the introduction of other cryptocurrencies.
2. Bitcoin is the father and king of all cryptocurrencies.
3. Bitcoin introduced financial freedom to everybody no matter your social status.

If Bitcoin is hacked by someone and this person will be found, he will go to jail and not to the Forbes top list. And I'm sure that after the crack of Bitcoin, crypto will be depreciated, it will crash forever

Bitcoin will not be able to hack and even if you have supercomputer also you will not able to hack be crypto algorithm because security is the major concern on cryptocurrencies payment. If you find any problem in transactions there you might have missed it with incorrect information.

These are very well said, Well, in my own opinion and I think it's because Bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency the reason why is more worthy rather than other cryptocurrencies. Also, many people trust Bitcoin and there are a lot of demands for it even if the price drop down it is still number 1 and no one can replace it. Another conclusion, because bitcoin was an open-source code and there are many developers who try to have an improvement on it.

It is not just the value that it secures for me that determines why Bitcoin became worthier than other cryptocurrency. Lets add the concept of the bitcoin's name, basically its a trademark that can easily remember by anyone since from the word bits which is related to computer, and coin means money. In short, bitcoins name contributed greatly from the success of it. In my opinion, satoshi's being anonymous is one of the thing that makes me wonder more about bitcoin, and be more curious about it.

Might I add that not every specs in the specsheet are necessarily used by the vast majority of people going about looking their cryptocurrencies. For one, nobody really cares about the fancy mechanism and lavishing technical aspects of a cryptocurrency as long as they can be safe with it and their funds are not easily taken away from them. Also, it is not unknown for everyone that cryptocurrencies are being used mainly for trading and trading alone, nothing more (or I could be wrong here). Bitcoin fulfills the basic necessities of people choosing cryptocurrencies over fiat money, and its simplicity never ceases to catch the interest of the masses.

It is simply because bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency that became successful and used as an internet currency. It was the first digital currency widely accepted by people and not to mention the amount of money and opportunity it had brought to people, especially to those early investor of bitcoin.

The reason why people are using bitcoin more than the other available cryptocurrencies is that it is the older crypto and it has its reputation. It has been the most reliable and trusted crypto and it have been used for long. People tend to use what have been reliable to them, and they will definitely choose it rather than to take risk to the new coins available.

Even I used to ask this question earlier. We have coins such as Cardano and NEO, which are very advanced when compared to Bitcoin. They use advanced algorithms and have better safety and scalability features when compared to Bitcoin. Then why these coins are not being used as much as BTC? The last time I checked, Cardano had lost more than 98% of its value. It has dropped out of the top-10 coins list in coinmarketcap and it's market capitalization has crashed from $30 billion to less than $1 billion.

I think I have found the answer. The users are not looking for a cryptocurrency that is the most technologically advanced. They are looking for a powerful, yet simple currency. And Bitcoin suits this role very well. Cardano is a very good coin and the technology is robust. But the problem is that many of the advanced features that it has are useless for the cryptocurrency users. Cardano would have been more popular, had its developers gave more attention to making it user friendly rather than stuffing with all the high-end tech.

I think its because of popularity and demand all over the world, and also the first cryptocurrency that uses blockchain. Even though mining of bitcoin will be lesser because of halving by next year.

You don't have to disagree with each other, both reasons can be combined. Except maybe for number 3. How can bitcoin gives you financial freedom when it can go down or up just like normal currencies do? And is bitcoin is even too volatile that is dangerous in terms of your financial security? Maybe you are earning bitcoins online? But everyone can also earn online with fiats too. Maybe the financial freedom you meant is free from government interventions?

It's because it's a much more stable coin, it's the founder of blockchain and people know it first before other altcoins. Also, it has proven its security and application, as opposed to the altcoins whom are just starting and is prone to crash if founder has not handled it right. It's true that these altcoins have more features in them, but generally speaking, bitcoin is a lot more trustworthy in terms of payments and investments. It's slowly progressing but each step is carefully done to ensure bitcoin's future.

He consider financial freedom as he is free to use his money through blockchain and he is tax free. Government doesnt have the capability to tax a person who earn through cryptocurrency.

Bitcoin has got the best specs in the crypto space and the more reason for its worth and dominance on the market. Bitcoin is trusted due to its transparent and anonymous nature in its transactions. It has low supply of 21M which makes it perfect to make the best of the supply and demand principle. Bitcoin has huge adoption as compared to other coins, another reason for its worth.

I think it's less the name, but more so the fact that it was the first ever crypto-currency that actually reached a decent amount of success.

But some your point i think is wrong, less fee and lightening fast network.
Standard fee of Bitcoin is around 50 satoshi/byte.
That is expensive if we compare it with other altcoin, Dogecoin for example with fee 1 doge per transaction.
Also the network is more slow if we compare it one year ago.

Bitcoin is more powerful than other cryptocurrencies today because first of all Bitcoin was the pioneer of all Cryptocrurrencies. Also, there are a lot of people who are patronizing bitcoin today compared to other good cryptos. Maybe someday if the people starts to patronize other crypto more than bitcoin, this is the time where its price will dump because of the decrease in demand compare to other crypto. You are very correct, it is better that I use the devil that I know than the angel that I don’t know. I would not have even been involved in any other cryptocurrency other than bitcoin, but the other currencies are still necessary evil, they still meet up in their own way to some of our needs.

I have used some altcoins to actually make money in trading and I think that is what they are very much useful for, short term trading and investment, but for a long term usefulness, technology wise and level of transaction accuracy with strong security, I think that bitcoin still cannot be competed with, bitcoin is still the most reliable cryptocurrency in the universe for its true nature, which is why people prefer to stick with it more. If all coins no longer exist, only bitcoin will still stand and you can see how the government is really finding it hard to ban it.

I believe it is the mass acceptance the reason why bitcoin is worth more than other cyrptocurrency that have better specs.  It is really an advantage to be able to spend Bitcoin in thousands of merchants around the world than having an advance technology but cannot be use to buy us some items.
