We can see these days that not all people know cryptocurrencies, if they do perhaps they have heard only about bitcoin, but without owning or having the experience of making any transactions.

Maybe altcoins will become popular within 3 years from now?

My honest opinion is that only 1% of altcoins will survive and prosper. The rest will just crash and burn and be forgotten. Ethereum is technically an altcoin and it's already popular. The more legitimate a project is, the faster it'll be discovered.

I ever read some articles about cryptocurrency news in online media, even though the news was related to altcoin but they wrote the title with the word bitcoin, so in my opinion this is a natural thing if most people only know bitcoin. Even though they have heard of or know about bitcoin but don't have it and never done yet any transactions, maybe because they don't know the functions and benefits of bitcoin itself. So as a community we have a role to provide even more insights to those who do not yet know clearly about cryptocurrency.

It does not depend on us. No one wants to invest in it is not clear what kind of altcoin. The team must do a great job to make their token relevant.

Most altcoins are tokens. It is they who in the coming years can add fame and popularity to cryptocurrency, when their projects will give a real product that will make our life more convenient and comfortable. However, the process of implementing cryptocurrency and our life will be very long, because not everything goes so well with cryptocurrency, as we would like.

Actually, all cryptocurrency have a chance to become popular but I think it will depend on their project at platform and how people can use their token. As of now some new altcoin become popular so once the token click to the people it cam really become popular.

Altcoins were already popular these years.

The term altcoins means in general, many alternative coins and they were a lot of it these days. So there's no need for them to ask on how long it would take for them to be popular.

it is like asking how long would it take for copper to turn into gold! obviously copper is copper, it can not become gold and have its usages.

similarly, we first need to see some alternative crypto-currencies that are actually designed to be used so that they can become popular. so far all the altcoins we have seen have been designed to get the most hype and then get pumped and dumped for maximum profitability. and until that mentality changes we can not see any popular altcoin (unless you count speculation as popularity!).

if people don't feel the benefits of alt, then alt will not be popular. therefore the education about crypto must begin, I personally have done it and started teaching it to family, friends and creating a small community in my city. I hope there are many events organized by crypto developers or experts, especially in countries that are not familiar with crypto.

Altcoins will be in demand, in my opinion, when real projects will stand behind them and work. Technology will make it easy to work, using at home, for example, cards for shopping.

It's not about popularity, it's about reliability. It all depends on BTC. If it grows will grow and other altcoins. Now the cue ball goes down, and all the other altcoins fall behind it.

Bitcoin is not fully recognized by the mainstream society, so the altcoin becomes popular need to wait longer. We can't predict this time, but based on experience, new creatures like altcoins usually take 10 years to get popular.

I think only if cryptocurrency is accepted as a means of payment in almost countries, altcoins become popular then. For now, even bitcoin is banned in many countries, in fact all cryptocurrencies, the spread of altcoins is impossible.

Yes, all the news speaks only about Bitcoin and never speak about Altcoins, but I think in the near future everyone will begin to learn about altcoins and they will be popular.

Many altcoins will not survive in such a market, they have no support. But some favorites and strong ones can be fixed on some positions, if of course there is a demand for them.

I dont think so actually because there are more alt coins at market but their promotion are not looking good to me. After BTC people was in trust at ETH but at present market its also going to down in price. I have too many altcoins in my wallet and i am working here more than 2 year but still i could not make trust any alt coin after BTC. So its untrusted to me.

If you are speaking about the mass adoption, we will only reach it when the projects are going to release their working products. But if you are speaking about a new coin, it depends on the ICO team and the bounty hunters.

Want to make cryptocurrency popular I think there are some problems to solve!
1. The way cryptocurrency is circulated, we all know that the current cryptocurrency transaction must be generated through exchange (the process of converting cash into cryptocurrency), and the elderly and children cannot do this!
2. Encrypted currency wallet, we know that most mobile wallets can't store bitcoin and altcoin at the same time!
3. Security, because the cryptocurrency is stored on the Internet, we may be hacked for various reasons!

I guess the popularity of the projects depend on its marketing. Just like at Tron, Justin Sun is so good at marketing and Tron has become popular in a short period of time. Whereas some other projects that were launched around the same time as Tron are not as popular.

no one can know because the development of crypto or altcoin currencies depends on the investor itself, confidence and patience are the main capital in its development

there are some good quality altcoins in the market there is no doubt it will take some time to this altcoins to get popular and it will happen once the market is stable.

I think this is related to whales. A good project requires the entry of capitalists to make coins more valuable. Therefore, in essence, the cryptocurrency market is the place where capitalists live. Not everyone can make money.

Many of the altcoins are seriously in bad shape now and buying them maybe be too risky.  I believe that some of the coins are going to go into extension by next year.  Some of them maybe not be able to recover and if you invest in them you may lose money. However,  there are some of them that you can take advantage of its cheap price and invest.  The current price is very low and if you have some risky capitals you can invest now.

Which altcoins? there are many alts never will be popular as they die afther 2-3 months and havent any usability so but from other side couldbe other goods cant make big prmotion as havent so much money for examle Onion is good alt for me but its not so famaous as It was not ICO so no so much money to pay big exchanges to be listed.

The development seems to be consistent.

We are not just feeling it because most of us are into the prices. But if you'll check the updates and adoptions, there's too much to come with it. And for altcoins, few of them will be popular and will remain popular like ETH, XRP though I hate to say it.

The problem is not just the popularity of altcoins, Some people can not trust them or they think that altcoins are very very risky and very volatile. And they are right. That is why they don't want to buy them.
On the other hand, many altcoins are popular even before their ICO like Wanchain, quarkchain or ncash.

Altcoin is just the generic name of the coins alternative and in altcoin there are many different types of altcoin. The amount of altcoin present is so great and I think not many of them will become popular.

It depends on the alternative coin you are talking. there is some project that is really popular and been sold-out.
there are few who gets support from a different country which made them well known.
CENTRA is very popular due to marketing and promotion of FLOYD MAYWEATHER.
GCOX got their popularity from celebrities and boxing ICO Manny Pacquiao.
PAC token is known in many countries even the ICO is not yet released because it is a coin of PACMAN (Pacquiao).
It depends on the marketing of the ICO or the person who will promote it.

I think altcoin needs to get some really different use case than bitcoin and get on some Tv news , i believe first alts to get recognized will be the Estate ones , money lending and invoice factoring . Just my opinion , i dont guarantee it will happen =D

I'm not sure that in three years we will all be able to pay in cryptocurrencies in every store, but I have no doubt that in some time this will happen. Everything is moving towards this - the world is becoming digital and in a few decades, we will not even imagine that everything could be somehow else.

I think there is no specific time for altcoin to gain is popularity, some may be less than three years while some may be more than three years. It depends on the project.

I mean I believed there was a lot of new coins that came out became very important and there are some older coins that became huge as well. "Altcoin" is not just new obscure small coin, its all coins that are not bitcoin, hence even ethereum and binance bnb is altcoin.

Considering there are billions of dollar going through binance doors every single day it would be wise to say bnb has been used and popular among people a lot, thats 25+ billion dollars per month all exchanging hands with fee's paid in BNB instead of bitcoin.

On the other hand when we think about ethereum we already moved past the small coin levels already, anybody who knows ethereum exists already knows how big ethereum is as well. There are governments who work with ethereum blockchain projects. Hence, altcoins are not getting popular, they ARE popular if you ask me.

Cryptocurrency is now quite popular. I do not doubt that the number of altcoins will grow. I hope we will see unique projects that will bring a large profit. Yes 3 I think in 3 years it will be clear what is happening with the market.

It all depends on advertising on public sites! At the moment, no one will advertise, because altcoins are not ready for introduction into our life! The second reason for ignorance regarding altcoins is that major players have not bought them yet in order to sell them to real users!

Why three years?

There is no doubt that altcoins are getting popular but I think three years is just too short for them to become as popular as bitcoin. I do not want to put any time table on that. They'll probably have to generate a lot of negative news since it's the story that really sells.

Some Altcoins have long been very popular, these are the coins I have heard for a long time - Ethereum, NEO, Cardano, EOS and others, but for the remaining thousands of coin types, popularity can only come after many years when they occupy their niche the market.

I would say even less than 1% of current altcoins will survive. But others will take their place and the total number of coins will be relatively the same.

Some altcoins are already popular and I think that in 2018 the number of people who heard about altcoins is bigger than it was in 2017. For sure in 2 years from now almost every people will at least hear about it.

I think alternate coins are being popular but not as popular as bitcoin. The fact that you will only know alternate coins if you already invested on bitcoin or you worked for bounties. Yes, altcoins in some way are popular. but more popular between the crypto community, and not outside worldwide with the "normal people" or non-crypto people.

No matter if a project/altcoin is the greatest, without marketing it doesn't exist, as people don't know about it. This is why if very hard for an altcoin to become as popular as Bitcoin, as it has 10 years of being the "King of crypto" and specially in a long bearish market this is hard to be changed.

They don't talk about altcoin because most of the media workers they just say whatever they hear about the very basics of bitcoin, if they haven't discovered the potential of blockchain then they are more likely to think that bitcoin is just like paypal!!

Yes, it will take at least three years. On the one hand, ICO projects have evolved over the years and after some time they will start showing themselves. On the other hand, while the Altcoins will not give real results in practice, improving our lives, until then, people will not pay special attention to them. Therefore, another three years and will pass.

A lot of altcoins will be reset in the long term.  Currently, the only thing they do in the market is the business IOS application and Andorid application. And if they can. :) When you look at road maps, you see that the only purpose without any goal is the incapable projects that are listed in the stock exchanges.

Nowadays, it can't be deny that there are lot of altcoins in the market. All of them also has an opportunity to become popular whether in good terms or not. But in my assessment only few of the altcoins only can able to survive in the market and those are belong to top 20 altcoins in the market as well, but this is just base in my opinion.

Once a person identifies the potential, possibility or finds a real use of a specific altcoin then that is the moment that an altcoin has a new investor or supporter. It is all about believing in the idea, project, potential.

altcoin currently has a lot of getting to know. However, it is when compared to the popularity of the bitcoin is still far from the imagined. just altcoin that already has big names known and others or under just a short-lived ad that is easy to be overlooked.

If you want Altcoins to become popular as Bitcoin, Altcoins must overcome Bitcoin in price and adoption, it seems and and really hard for Altcoins to do this, but it must do if it want to become popular. I think as long as the government will not accept the digital asset form cryptos will never become popular with in 3 years, it will take long to be known in entire world. I think the massive use of blockchain technologies and crypto tokens will come no earlier than 10 years from now. First of all, the introduction of blockchain and related altcoins should occur in the field of international money transfers, medicine, services and online trading. Accordingly, the altcoins of similar ICO projects will grow first.

Most of the altcoins even won't get existed even after three years so we can't jist say as altcoins there are some altcoins can existing for years and some altcoins even didn't get any exchange so choose the altcoin just based on the quality of the project and it may get very worthy in short time.

Altcoins is a general name and it already known by people that altcoins are the next after bitcoin so I think you need to specify any coin you are trying to talk about and not just talk in general but many of the altcoins will die with no time but the stronger one will survive.

Well if I need to specify any coin I would say DeepOnion :-)  after all this coin has shown steady development without asking investors money at the beginning like other projects. Investors will buy it once they feel the project has future and when they have used DO features.

Indeed the challenge for governments is huge, so big that perhaps they won't be able to catch the speed of promising blockchains like bitcoin, but if they do... good for them! the point of blockchain is about decentralizing everything and we know that the governments are not in that frequency or don't have that mentality yet... they are way far behind from the efficient and transparent technology like blockchain.

For point 3 that can happen when people trust online centralized exchanges like Coinbase, ect. but not for decentralized exchanges or when people use hardware wallets like trezor, ledger, etc. as long as the user knows how to keep their private key, they are ok.

There are some factors that help determine the popularity of coins like performance, publicity, positive news, campaigning, speculation etc. There are two ways to earn popularity either through positive ways or negative ways. Many coins have become popularity just they are listed on exchanges. Cardano to name a few. Good and promising coins will become popularity even in the short span of time.

If you have a great project and a working product, it is only the matter of marketing. Hold a great bounty and you will get popular even before the token sale will end. There are a lot of examples like UBEX.

I think the altcoins have to be at least a 5-6 year to become popular. Bitcoin currently owns more than half the market. And all the altcoins don't even have that half the market. Therefore, the popularity of Bitcoin should be reduced first. And I don't think this will happen anytime soon.

Yeah i have sent ONIONs to friends on more than 4 separate occasions and they arrive straight away, it seems reliable enough to continue using it, plus they always update the wallet, there might be other better alts out there but so far i'm sticking with onion.

When you mention cryptocurrencies, anyone hearing that already knows that you’re not referring to just only one, although they might just know about Bitcoin and not others. Altcoins are not really meant to be known much, cause they are just alternatives, the main thing when we talk about crypto is Bitcoin and its not all altcoins that is going to last. There are already popular altcoins like ETH, Ripple, and BCH, and these ones are meant to stay alongside BTC.

I think the reason why other cryptocurrencies are not popular is because of the price. If you are a normal person in the outside world, there is a low chance that you will be familiar with a coin that has a pow price value. Bitcoin became popular because of its price, and later on the people talked about it and speculated what will happen in the next few years.

For me I will say that all the altcoins don’t have exact time for it to be popular. If the altcoins make some sense people will buy it and make it popular but if the don’t make any sense nobody will buy it and that’s how it will dump.

I think 5 years is the best for altcoin to become popular in the world. for now, altcoin does have to focus on the concept of their project for the long term so that many investors are interested in supporting the development of altcoins. and after that altcoin can get more users with the success of their projects.

Altcoin never becomes popular if the cryptocurrency market does not recover in the future I think. Now the price of this market had downtrend and not any sign of recovering. Therefore, I think we will wait for the surprise in the next year about the cryptos market and specifically altcoins.

Yes, each project is very different in this cycle. Some projects may be implemented within one year. Some projects take 3 or even 5 years to get better development.
