Title: How NOT To Get Scammed
Post by: Drai on October 31, 2019, 10:13:10 AM
I believe that every good lesson starts with a good story and on this note, I want to tell you about the experience I had that made me cautious of "Get rich quick" schemes online especially those pertaining to Cryptocurrencies.

I discovered Bitcoin in early 2013 and although I didn't take it seriously at first, I was earning little money from it doing tasks online (pay for view, faucets and such), I took it more as a hobby and never intended on selling the bitcoin, I just knew in my heart that it would do great so I wanted to accumulate as much as possible without having to spend my money buying it (this was before I got into mining), fast forward to 2015 when the money doubling schemes were everywhere, I kept seeing adverts online and even though I knew better, I decided to invest in one of them (Avabitcoin) with the coins I got from my early days of discovering bitcoin, Avabitcoin was a platform where you invest bitcoin and they supposedly invest it and return profits to you on a daily basis, I decided to take the risk and invested for the first day, got back my money plus 12% profit, and greed overtook me and I did kept doing it for 2 more weeks before they vanished with my funds. I kept going all in even when I had already doubled my money.

If you want to avoid getting scammed online, you just have to follow the following:

Greed: Greed has led a lot of people straight to rekt, like my story above would have told you, I couldn't resist the pull of greed even when I had doubled my funds.

HYIPs: When it looks too good to be true, then it's probably too good to be true, when you see any investments that promise high yield returns, please stay far away from them, when you see genuine projects that offers returns, most of their returns are so low, some of them are average of 10% per annum and it's a wonder that we see platforms offering 10% and above in a day and we gladly jump straight into rekt, like I said, if it sounds too good to be true, then it's too good to be true.

FOMO: If not for the hype that Avabitcoin generated, I would not have invested in it in 2015, learn how to DYOR and avoid what others have to say about projects they seem to support, infact your mindset should be that everybody is trying to rip you off so if you always look at every hyped project with that mindset, you would have a clearer picture of the project without the blindfold of FOMO.

Rushing: Avoid rushing into any investment because you heard it's paying others, one of the virtues of a Cryptocurrency investor is patience, Cryptocurrency investments are high risk investments and you have to treat it like gambling, never invest more than you can afford to lose, never go all in on any project no matter how good it looks.

EDIT:
Click on random websites: Many airdrop websites you see these days asking for personal details are fake and many of them are just clever ways to steal your private details and use it to steal your funds, be careful of the links you click and if possible, bookmark your sensitive websites (the ones that need private information like private keys and passwords) so that you wouldn't fall for a clone website.

Use new wallets: We can all remember the recent incident that happened with satowallet where the wallet stopped working and users lost a sizable amount of funds, we should stick to the existing and trusted wallets instead of just jumping into any random wallets swe see online, many of them don't have your best interest at heart.

Repeat Passwords:  I was just surfing through the forum a few minutes ago and saw a post where a guy managed to hack an ICO website and contacted the admins and the admins just don't care, never repeat passwords in two websites so that if a hacker manages to get their hands on one of your passwords, they would not be able to affect your funds in other platforms.

Quote
Please try to include telegram scams on your list, they are trending big now and almost all newbies from india have fall victim to this scam tricks, scammers steal project teams image and use a near identity name too, for example a legit project team member can  go by @fisher as the username and scammers will change the name to @flsher with same profile image to give you good offer, if you don't check very well you will think its legit.

If you have any similar experience, please kindly share it, it might help others (especially the newbies to avoid being scammed by shady projects out there and if I see good suggestions, I would edit this post and add them as well.

Seen some awesome answers and I would be adding them soon, keep the suggestions coming.

If you have the urge to invest anywhere, why not get into lending in reputable platforms instead, these days even reputable exchanges now offer this service so if you have the urge to do something, just lend your Cryptocurrencies ,I have discovered that some people just feel like putting their crypto funds somewhere so thet they can feel like their are doing something, never fall for this urge please.

Some of us can be easily deceive by their sweet lies like we don't even think about it before making decision and that is the reason why we end up felling remorse about it. I've had experience it, it makes curious and interested of course who doesn't want to earn huge profit in easiest way? I don't have enough understanding before about safety and security about scams that's why I lose some of my money. I have learned a lot of things after that incident and now I was able to overcome different problems because my experiences help me to realize my mistakes.

I think we need to add one more thing, which is the unprofessional idea.
For fraud projects, they often offer roadmaps and limited visibility. Their whitepaper only focuses on the price of tokens and big discounts and some limited information about the market. That is also a way to identify fraud.

Greed is just a root of all it all. Everybody want to get rich of course; searching stuff online, doing some outdoor activities and whatsoever. But such greed to money stands as a wall between you, passion and knowledge that everyone tend to forget to do and think of beforehand. They just search and try those things alike on what they have seen forgetting to ask themselves why they should do this, what is more into this, and where am I getting at in this before participating. Leaving greed would be a major key to avoid scam.

This was a thing of past as nowadays the scam projects looks so neat with  clear white paper and road map as they just hire people over this forum itself or fiverr to do these tasks. We need to use our experience and idea behind the projects as most of the scam projects comes up with unrealistic ideas and we could do verification of their team member and their previous projects.

Remember the bitconnect scam, this is the best example of all the lists that was mentioned. A lot of people got scammed because of FOMO and greed, the project really is attractive because of their income plan, but if you will look at it deeply it is too good to be true. I have seen a lot of people breaking down in YouTube saying they have invested all they got in there and etc. That is why people should be careful when investing and must really do their research.

Investors become greedy, even after knowing that this is a scam, most of its investors still continue their activity.
They focus more on their possible profit than securing their money. Instead of getting away with this project, investors chose to close their eyes and expected too much from the project.

Thanks for posting, hopefully newbies will be aware. In my opinion greed is the biggest problem, because when hunters see a new bounty that promises to allocate 2 million USD as rewards, they are all starting to promote it without even checking the project.

According my experience before joining in this forum is Greed and fomo. At 2017 before bitcoin reach their ATH, I was trapped with fomo moment although that make me profit (very rare moment). I also ever be greed for holding altcoin, and that make me lost approx $3000.

I don't think it's about bounty, and regarding projects that promise a lot of prizes, I think it needs to be suspected for now. Op is just not satisfied with the small profit, therefore, this will be a lesson so that we may not be greedy in taking advantage. Imo

You just reminded me of this, The Bitconnect scam is probably one of the worst heists in the history of Cryptocurrency,t he sad fact is that when something similar came up after the crash of Bitconnect, some people were still investing in the hopes of recouping their loses which only led to more loses.

I have been exposed to FOMO in 2017 when IGNIS snapshot airdrop. At that time I bought NXT for $ 0.05 and kept holding until NXT reached ATH, because I wanted to get IGNIS. It turned out that when IGNIS was distributed, NXT dropped sharply. If I sell NXT without waiting to get IGNIS, I can get around $4000 at the time. But only about $1500 that I finally got. But, that's life, we have the right to choose and bear each of them.

I would add one more.
Don't visited random website that has crypto airdrops on there , or don't click on random links that people shared or people sent to you because it might be contains malware that can track your wallet password.
So be careful on surfing in cryptocurrency websites, because there are some of them contains malware and it will steal your personal private key or passwords

This was the most terrible investment I've experienced before. Still continue to invest even after knowing that it is a scam. I've tried to retrieve my losses, and started to make quick decisions without further thinking of possible things to happen after my investment.
Greed brings me to that investment, even after realizing the situation, I still do not believe my instinct.

Avoid clicking some random link because it could cause downloading of malware that could possibly penetrate your system and obtain your precious data such as passwords. You could also do make some research first the project you were going to engage in, check their roadmap and make a technical analysis out from it.

I think learning and gaining experience is also important to avoid fraud. Newbies often have no knowledge of what they're about to face, so they are the most vulnerable subjects.

I once invested in one project because of FOMO. The project is discussed by everyone in the group and every day there will be news that appears. I am still holding and analyzing, then I am interested in investing some of my funds in it. When the token sale is complete, just wait for listing on the exchange. But until now the project has not been listed anywhere and tokens have become junk.

I guess everyone here did go to that growing pains early in their crypto journey.

I myself was very gullible way back, investing on a so called bitcoin doubler, but we all know what happens next. If I may add, crypto is not a get rich scheme, everyone who join this market because of that mindset will lose everything is just a matter of months.

And as much as we hated Ponzi, it will continue to grow, it's already 2019 and there are still individuals who fall for this kind of trick.

The problem here is that people still risk their hard-earned money to invest in an insecure invesment platform. At first they knew it was going to go to the scam but with the big money and they thought that in the pioneering stage it would pay them off immediately, And what's worse is they encourage the novice to join, so they are the victims most often.

Therefore, prevention of people who already know this trend should begin. To prevent the novice from becoming a victim.

Newbies love to try as see even if they will lose money, bitcoin doublers and HYIP still have loads of people who patronize them every day, some became lucky and some lose out big time but everything starts from the greed of the heart

Scams come in a lot of ways.
Whether you wanted it or not. Look, even if we're putting our highest guard, scammer could still hides their tiniest scheme. It's best to avoid it, true.

It's kinda hard to tell someone this or that, they tend to gave up to their emotions, especially hyip, ponzi, fomo or the like.

As for the tips mentioned above, my advice is be prepared for anything. Don't click any suspicious links, double check everything, don't just blindy believing what someone's said. Do your own research, and always prepared for the worst.

No matter how good a project might look, even after series of research, after investing in it and you have got that little profit, pls, take your profit and move on to another. Trying to take too much has caused some people to lose their funds.
It can bring loss to the point that you might be able to recover from it again.

The biggest factor getting people scammed easily  is greed. I remember losing funds on an old HYIP called RichmondBerks which claimed to invest our funds in real estates (it was a big lie). I lost 3000$+ in that scheme and from there I learnt the hard way. Crypto investment needs patience and proper strategies, there is no shortcut. Learn how to spot good projects, learn TA for trading purpose, involve in bounties etc , that's the way forward.

It's accurate though. Most have experienced being scammed and I just also want to add something from what I have learned from that experience is you need to do is to be very cautious and do prior research before investing on something. Don't let yourself get blinded by greed because it will do no good to you. You're just making yourself be more vulnerable for scams.
If you're still not that familiarize here, especially for newbies, it's best not to make hasty decisions. Consult people who you think that can help you with your decisions.

The problem is newbies these days see cryptocurrency as an opportunity to get rich fast which is a wrong interpretation. It's a long process of learning so it will be a big risk to invest without learning first. I admit that I made a wrong decision because of FOMO before but I have learned that it's better to do your own research first before investing.

Indeed. Greed and rushing into any investment is the common mistakes of people who get scammed, that is why having patience and controlling yourself are the things that you should consider before investing your money in projects. Other reason why people are getting scammed because of ignorance or not enough knowledge in cryptocurrency, just because the project has great whitepaper, website and promising team members it cannot be consider a scammed project, that is why beginners in cryptocurrency should be guided and learn more for them to avoid fraudulent projects.

They are all not dangerous, except to HYIPs, FOMO, rushing, is a good thing, what comes after is how you are going to apply it, it could be either affect you negatively or positively, again, it all depends on what actions you are going to execute to make these things you called "how not to get scam" advices work properly.

If you are going to get greedy because of FOMO, and you rush things out, make sure that you have a plan before that, rushing things naively is a plan destroyer.

Do not send money to scammers and you will not be deceived.

To be honest, I somewhat doubt the relevance of your advice.
The time of hypes has passed. Of all the projects of today, it’s possible to single out only telegrams and Libra as HYIPs, but neither of them gives an opportunity to invest in them.
Therefore, your advice seems a little belated to me.

As for FOMO, in the current market I have not seen this phenomenon for a long time. Even when Bitcoin grew to $ 13,000 and FOMO did not activate, which is why the whales had to sell out.

Deception can happen to anyone and it's because of FOMO and greed, even though they have experience and have been here for a long time, but fraudsters are smarter and will try various tricks to convince.
and we need to be more professional to do detailed research and investigate more deeply and try to communicate with their team to always keep asking questions that you think should be asked, and all of this will become Points of consideration as a continuation for making choices.

If you have any similar experience, please kindly share it, it might help others (especially the newbies to avoid being scammed by shady projects out there.
You can never rush things, you will surely make mistakes no matter what if you are taking things too quickly. If you really want to avoid unfortunate events such as scams and frauds, it would be best if you make decisions slowly and carefully. It will also be a great help if you are going to make sure you are knowledgeable enough on what you are trading or investing to so that you can pick the best decision. There are a lot of scams out there right now and you can avoid only if you are patient and skillful enough on what you are doing.

Scams are increasing day by day just only because of people getting greedy as they want to become rich without doing anything in short span of time. They just invest anywhere without getting proper details as they get attracted to the benefits set up as bait and easily get fooled. So they need to be aware about this risky market and just control their emotions and investigate in detail first without investing money in scam project.

Control yourself when you see an offer like 10% return in 10 hours or doubling the money in 24 hours, etc because in reality it is not possible to make that kind of profits so realizing is the first part when someone don't want to get scammed from reality and luring people to scams like these.

During my early days as bounty hunter Ive always look for an easy money, some of them are called "HYIP" in which you will need to send amount of money like minimum of $1 to gain atleast 50% of it, but this hyip will be alive for only 1day or an hours then they will scam all the moneys they will shutdown the website then you will lose your money. This is the wrong time about people, easy money is the first thing people look for when they are badly in need, which really cannot help them but rather make their status worst.

Even if you follow all the rules and are always careful remember that social engineering also does not stand still. Scammers will always find new ways. But this is the foundation of the rules and, as always, they are in human values and weaknesses.

You are right but atleast observing the basic rules keeps you out of sight for scammers. Firstly is get information and keep yourself abreast with emerging events and happenings. Widen your knowledge horizon oh how things work in the information technology world and Secondly never get greedy. Every greedy man is prone to scam. Not even know MIT degrees can save you from that.

Because people who join the ponzi scheme or HYIPs only think of ways to get a lot of money quickly without thinking about risks such as scams, so many people complain when they know ponzi or HYIPs are scam. And always be careful invest in crypto
If people think of investing money in shitty ponzi and HYIP schemes thinking of making money then they are aware of the risk involved too as there is nothing that will last for a long period of time but all the scams in the market are not about HYIP and ponzi but majority invest when they see a good project but what happens is that they will have a prototype and nothing else and they will not develop the end product and the project dies and that is what we see often.

Greed is an attitude that must be avoided. Attitudes that always feel less and always want more can affect the mind. Someone with this bad attitude tends to want maximum profit in a short time. On several occasions, this greed can affect the analysis. Honestly I have experienced this, and I really made this a lesson, even though at that time I was already profit but I entered the market again because there was a small chance to get a bigger profit, but apparently it was missed and as a result, I actually lost, lost my previous profit.
And the most important thing to continue to exist in cryptocurrency is to always do analysis before making any decision. DWYOR. If possible do a discussion with an experienced friend.

Greed is one of the most common problem of an investor.
This could blind them easily and could shutdown their common sense that could result in losing their money.
Most of the time when people are greedy they would close their mind on the other option or possibilities.
The only thing that they need is to be calm and try not to follow their emotions .

If people think of investing money in shitty ponzi and HYIP schemes thinking of making money then they are aware of the risk involved too
I don't think that's actually the case, because a lot of people who "invest" in ponzi schemes complain about having lost money when the ponzi implodes.... if they were aware of the risks they would accept their loss and move on.

I honestly don't know what's worse, people investing in a ponzi scheme while they don't know it is a scam, even though it's so obvious, or the people who do know they are investing in a ponzi scheme, but simply don't care.

People who don't care about investing in a ponzi scheme do that because they think they are early enough to get out with a profit.... it basically means that you are okay with other people losing money so that you can make your profit.

I would add that when project is promising certain % of profits, it's most likely a scam. And i don't mean proof of stake projects paying with their own coin / token, but projects that promise gains in btc, eth or usd. Nobody knows if the new project is success least of all projects that haven't even started. And all the projections they paint should be marked as estimates based on something in the history. Not as in promises of profits.

One of he most common things this day, is that you see some people discuss on price and the possible ways in which it can be inflated. Do not get confused, they might be doing it for their own favour and looking for those to dump on. Even if the project look very good and there are updates that are upcoming, one still need
to search more.

People makes mistake. Again, there are scams that are really hard to detect. They hide their signs so professionally it becomes really impossible to know if they are going to scam or not. Then again, there are people here who builds trust first while planning on making a huge scam. Once the trust has been built, they end up scamming them really good. Yeah, the points you mentioned will actually help to avoid getting scammed from certain type of events/people.

No matter how careful you are, scammers will still try to look for means through which they can get across to you. It is always better to be on guard and be conscious if it, inasmuch as you are still in the crypto space and on internet. Also try to avoid being controlled by your emotions, rather be more logical and think carefully well before making any decision.

Indeed, emotions and greed are the impulses that are difficult to control and can lead to unfortunate events. Personally, I believe that things can go more smoothly if we set realistic objectives at the beginning and stick with it as much as possible. It's take a lot not to be swayed by emotions but it can also be a great motivator to still work in this industry.

I would add strict investing plan presence here as well. You should know clearly where you enter the market and when you will quit, what conditions will cause you to act somehow. And this plan shouldn't be changed constantly while you are watching the graphs.

If one wishes to grow in the trading industry, he should understand that he will not earn a lot most of the times. The market is too dynamic and many factors determine the outcome of the coins. It is important to know that most of the times, if it's too good to be true, avoid it no matter how convincing the deal is. There is no such thing as free lunch.

Don't invest or use if you not know that like in trading sites, wallets and gambling site then try the trusted and popular already here in crypto

Then i recommend to not risk big always and your investment are more on btc then some few alts that very useful so this have future like this will grow like xrp, bch, eth, doge, dash and more
Better to have an investigation first, if your guts are telling you that the website or the campaign you want to join in scam it is better to follow it. But you need also to read their credentials first, their prospect, what does their plan after succeeding and also what will be their plan if they fail. Dont be fooled by their saying that you could be rich or you will get this amount $$$ when you joined them if their plan is unrealistic.

It is nice to be greedy after gaining good amount of knowledge regarding one’s investment target. For instance, if a person has chosen bitcoin and invested good amount of money, then he holds it for long duration because he understands that bitcoin gains huge value with time, this greediness wont harm him at all. Being an ignorant and greedy is a deadly combination. This needs to be avoided.

This is a good one, many funds has been lost in the past because of this, many people would just visit any random website and input their real details which would eventually be used to hack their accounts, it has happened to a friend of mine in the past, I would edit my post and add it there.

Click on random websites: Many airdrop websites you see these days asking for personal details are fake and many of them are just clever ways to steal your private details and use it to steal your funds, be careful of the links you click and if possible, bookmark your sensitive websites (the ones that need private information like private keys and passwords) so that you wouldn't fall for a clone website.

this is very dangerous. Many phishing websites are specifically created to trap users and retrieve account information, private keys and others. If they get your rmail then they will send a link that will go to the phishing website. Must be very careful and thorough, bookmarking is indeed the best solution.

simple, if you don't want to be scammed then you don't have to bother to get involved in it. but in most cases it is true that the points you say like greed and also the lack of knowledge about crypto, is one factor, why someone easily gets scammed in this industry. It is important to always be careful before making investment or trading choices and do not fully use your main money when entering this space.

Investment is the way how to increase our assets, many time we reached profit with bitcoin and altcoin investment and lost your profit once in investing is not have to keep in your mind, we not always got profit but some time we faced with lost assets after investing with bitcoin and altcoin, maybe impossible if always get profit with your bitcoin and altcoin investment.

The key is education, to know how to check services, to be able to understand something before you jump in with your money. Crypto is a new field, and there are so many new things, some of them are good some bad, and sometimes its very hard to make a difference, that's why investing in new projects can be very risky. Nobody wish to be scammed, but huge wish for making money makes us vulnerable, and its happen all the time in crypto.
There are many ways to avoid scams, checking and rechecking projects, consulting with others, all that is not a guarantee of course, so most important is to not risk with investing more then you can lose, and to work too much without guarantees that you will be paid for that. Start slowly, with small steps, invest money you can afford to lose, or simply work for project and get interested about the team all the time, if you see something fishy just stop working for them, don't spend months for nothing.

People's instincts are indeed if they can get the profit as quickly as possible and if possible it is also not too difficult, aka just want to be easy. so we can not avoid this fact even many are drugged to follow.
but with increasing understanding of people, it can gradually improve and can be understood.
but we also need to know that there are many instant and tempting projects now that this is dangerous.
must be wiser to be uninterested and deceived.

cryptoqurrency related to risk, be it investment, trade, or other things that cover about crypto are always at risk. it's just that if you have knowledge that is rarely possessed by others in this field, always be careful before making a decision and avoid if you find a suspicious project. at least it can reduce your money loss.

Many of these that you mentioned are generally emotion-based decisions. Greed is basically an emotional tendency. It is not rational to be greedy. Falling for HYIP and FOMO are also emotional mistakes. If you stick to the objective assessments of the various indicators you will not give in to FOMO and HYIP. If the charts are saying that the bull run is almost done and it could correct anytime, you don't buy. But others are too emotional to be left behind even if there is no reason for it.

For me the easiest way not to get scammed is to control your greed and always have second thought on all all that is being presented to you, when we cannot control our greed, we tend to forget advised that we get about investing, all we are thinking is the profit that we are going to get if we invest right away, I have experienced this on so many occasions on so many coins, because of the hype and forget to always have second thought.

Control yourself when you see an offer like 10% return in 10 hours or doubling the money in 24 hours, etc because in reality it is not possible to make that kind of profits so realizing is the first part when someone don't want to get scammed from reality and luring people to scams like these.
Yes, that’s true we only should invest our money in only old projects as old is good having so many trustworthy investor who will never deceive so new investors should be with old ones and never get with new projects without making research. We are in a new era still having a lot of good projects so in short we shouldn't try every new site and stay mostly with old and trustworthy sites.

I think learning and gaining experience is also important to avoid fraud. Newbies often have no knowledge of what they're about to face, so they are the most vulnerable subjects.

It's the most important. You have to learn to keep distance and be suspicious of every project. Sometimes you need to get hurt first to develop this attitude towards investments and sometimes it's enough to see others get hurt. Let's hope you belong to the second group.

Experience does wonders and you can see it by watching old members of this community. They almost never fall victim to scams byt 50% of newbies do.

Big scam case that i see, maybe ponzi scheme that famous and then collect a lot of money from people. After that maybe people know when they are too greedy and think about instant way to get money, scammers will take advantage from them.
Because people who join the ponzi scheme or HYIPs only think of ways to get a lot of money quickly without thinking about risks such as scams, so many people complain when they know ponzi or HYIPs are scam. And always be careful invest in crypto
Those ones are responsible for their own predicament because they left other investment option alone to go for Ponzi scheme, if they had even gone for some of these investment that are exit scam, we would have really felt for them, I mean some of the projects that will collect money and then enter exchange only for them to slowly exit, those investors now are very unfortunate, and for their own case, it is really difficult to discern those projects, but it is very easy to know some of these Ponzi scheme.

The moment that a project start telling you exactly amount that you will get at a particular period of time, I think we should already be trying to just exit the project because it is indeed a Ponzi scheme which will not survive the pyramid for long.

I think this is another reason why people get scammed, there was a time when lending coins were the best way to make quick money but I think what really made people rush it so much was the fact that so many people made money from it and they also wanted to get in and grab their own chunk as well, some were trying to be cautions and decided to wait until others has been paid before they invest, not knowing that HYIP robs from Peter to pay Paul and it's when they are getting in that it might all end.

Unfortunately the crypto world is the new far west, there are traps and Indians everywhere, and you don't know who to trust.
So, no matter how many precautions you can take, there is always a component of imponderability that escapes control.

I admit greed is the main factor, instead of expecting a 5X refund of what is invested. maybe what the OP is saying is just to anticipate being trapped in being scammed. I think all that is wanted in the crypto community is to erase and fight scammed. So that the scammer's trend is gone.

one more addition to anticipate being trapped in a scammed project. look for projects that have ideas, solutions, and innovations that are new to the public, most of these projects are legitimate or real, even better if crowdfunding events are conducted with the IEO system and this is preferred by investors. so this is most likely a successful project in the future. In my opinion, a scammed project is not much different from a failed or a scam project, and besides, the mindset or ideas of this strange project must be suspected.

The most reigning form of scamming is not less of ICO/IEO related. Most of them are now come in form of airdrop. They conduct an airdrop and inform the participants to pay a certain amount of ETH as gas fees for the airdrop earnings to be sent. They all end up in nothing but scam.
The best way to avoid being scammed is to check one's greed towards making unrealistic earnings.

I once invested in one project because of FOMO. The project is discussed by everyone in the group and every day there will be news that appears. I am still holding and analyzing, then I am interested in investing some of my funds in it. When the token sale is complete, just wait for listing on the exchange. But until now the project has not been listed anywhere and tokens have become junk.

looks like most of the projects I've participated with. Most of them just want quick buck. Even if they are not scam and end up listing on an exchange they will eventually start selling according to their plan. The price will not hold as there are only a few investors left for altcoins and watch only a couple of new projects that have connections and probably a decent product. At this point the right strategy if you invest is to dump on exchange as soon as they get listed. Even listing on Binance doesn't help much anymore. They will see a quick pump and dump and nothing else.

I strongly agree with your thought when say greed because all we need we are greed we will easily believe to the not realistic offer and worst we invest more and hoping to earn more because we are being greedy. One more thing is rushing, when you rush your actions and decisions this is the time that you did not think well so you will have a wrong decison.

Rushing a project like you have said, it's not good. That must be the key in my opinion too :).

I have seen a lot of projects that started off as a legit project and paying people, and on the long run it turned out to be a scam. Some scammers will present themselves as legit and when they have paid people for sometime and get to convince them that they are legit, by then people will start to invest lots of money and before you know what's happening they will stop working and disappear.

So it's good to do a proper research about any project and not just based on what you have heard. You should go through their website and also check their team and everything necessary that you will check to confirm that they are legit. Lastly, you shouldn't let greed push you into making a mistake you will end up regretting. As humans, our desires are much, but you can't get all. You should learn to control yourself and not your desires mislead you. That's very important.

It is all bout rushing in without having further research about the project. Greed has always been a part of it but I don't we can just let it go yet specially with this opportunities. FOMO is always with it as well besides such chances are only for limited participants be better to go quick or rather lose it. But that doesn't mean you have to go all through well without looking for further details. Might be able to avoid scam if people are all strict and cautious before participating into any project.

And secondly is uncertainty, no proper research, hype has made many investors cry till date.

in investments with crypto and altcoin currencies one of the risks and weaknesses of these investments is that there are no strengths or legal institutions that can regulate the activities that occur in the development of crypto currency investments and that allows people to make fraudulent projects for personal gain and certainly harm many people and investors who participated in the project

In this market, any investment will have its own risks and if you are not careful, you will be a victim for them to make money. I have gone through many different stages of this market and also lost a lot of money when participating. I believe it is best to choose only top altcoin investments or join IEO at major exchanges because these are the two easiest ways to make money in the bear market.

Investment in the market, you mean crypto investment or investment in ICO? Well, it has its own risk, and the risk of investing in money making scheme is different from crypto investment.
Participating in investment scheme is different from investing in crypto, if you participate in investing schemes, you will only end up being their victim, while in the market or through ICO, there is a chance that you make a profit but it takes time and not an easy way to make a profit.

If most will not follow this scamming tricks scammers needs to find another ways to try attempting another scamming offers. Once you detect or proven that it's just all for scam, exposing is the best help that you can bring to this industry.

At present it is indeed risky to invest in new projects. If the price does not go down after the initial listing, there is another risk that the developer team is running away from the investor's funds. For now, I think it's safer to invest in coins that are in the top 10 coinmarketcaps, but we just have to wait patiently for the altseason to come

yeah a lot of projects have the capacity to last for long term but the main thing is their identification which is very important for not getting scammed, and it is not necessary that the projects would be judged on the basis of the market conditions, the legit project is always legit whatever the market trend is, but scam project will always scam you even in the bull market.

Both new projects and coins that have been traded on the market are experiencing difficulties due to market conditions that have not yet recovered. Projects that die after listing are usually caused by the developer team leaving the project or not being able to reach the target roadmap so that investors begin to lose confidence. I agree that many projects have a dedicated team and I think this kind of project will still rise when the market begins to recover

The best way to stay safe in crypto is be very careful when it comes to choosing a project or coin to invest in. To be careful here means the investor must read and research vehemently on the project in order to ascertain its authenticity and capabilities of becoming successful. Targets during the research should focus on the team and its expertise level, the product, the use case, the idea pf the project etc.

Quote

If you have any similar experience, please kindly share it, it might help others (especially the newbies to avoid being scammed by shady projects out there and if I see good suggestions, I would edit this post and add them as well.

All of it are the common mistakes of people who wants their money to double or more than that easily. Easy money is very attractive and many will take the risk especially if you are a greedy person who are thinking about the profit only.

So far, I was unable to experience any of these mistakes and hoping that I can still avoid it. What I have experienced is, I lost my money because of my carelessness. I send the money to the wrong address and boom my money just fade like a dust and that is the lesson that I learned which I don't want to happen again.

but the most dangerous one is greed, not knowing when to stop is bad in every aspect of life but at the same time greed has its purpose too

Definitely correct. I think we should all learn contentment. Most of the times, greed makes us lose more than we could earn. I know because I experienced it myself. When I was still new here, I wait too long before exchanging my coins. Turns out those coins are already depreciating and has no more chance to depreciate. My colleagues were able to sell theirs at an amount thrice than what I got because I was not contented before. But I learned from that experience and became contented now of what I have.

Sometimes we are ending up victimized by scam project or scammers due to greed of earning huge in span of short period. Lack of knowledge is one of the factor as well, some people believe in others hearsay and easily bite the offer even it is too good to be true.

So be careful and conduct a research, dont jump in any earning opportunity if you dont understand well how it work and the risk associated with it.

Very good information for new people to cryptocurrency, in order not to be dragged the scam further in the future. My biggest mistake is the same password when signing up for an airdrop website on many platforms eventually many incoming email notifications are successful logins on some of my exchange platforms. Fortunately, I have no balance in some exchange because only to sell my altcoin from the bounty. And my main exchange is in the strict use of F2A. So do not get your password the same when registering on a website as described above.

This is very true. Thanks so much for the write up,  it is very comprehensive. It's not good that we learn the hard way, after losing so much money. Simple precautions can save us alot of stress and headache

it is not easy today to get good project to invest, if the project not scam it is low quality and dead after few months

but I still believe there will be projects that can last a long time, market trends may be bad but I am sure there are some developers who are responsible for the project. Most importantly as an investor you must choose the right project for investment

yeah a lot of projects have the capacity to last for long term but the main thing is their identification which is very important for not getting scammed, and it is not necessary that the projects would be judged on the basis of the market conditions, the legit project is always legit whatever the market trend is, but scam project will always scam you even in the bull market.
Of course, it is very difficult to idea scam projects from the good ones. This is why investors are always entreated to learn how to research very well into projects. Constant practice makes perfect hence investors must begin to study about the team members paying attention to their individual profiles and qualifications because this will help in knowing the experience level of the team.

Sometimes we are ending up victimized by scam project or scammers due to greed of earning huge in span of short period. Lack of knowledge is one of the factor as well, some people believe in others hearsay and easily bite the offer even it is too good to be true.

So be careful and conduct a research, dont jump in any earning opportunity if you dont understand well how it work and the risk associated with it.
we have to be able to do time and income calculations, it doesn't make sense for the project to run short and pay big unless the project is made by a popular developer. so always pay attention to the parts that make sense, and research the available data

Every day, many bad people try to commit fraud. Because the Internet is a place that has the potential to do scams.
As mentioned above, it usually happens because people want to get rich quick.

No, actually even well known developer cant do that in short period of time, even popular crypto BTC  and ETH  takes time to make the price that high, only those persons with so much patient and believer is the one who get that so much rewards for waiting that long.

One of the first things they learn in classic scam school is how to create urgency and panic or even confusion. A mixture of all is best.

Make the victim panic because of FOMO and make sure there is a time window in order to "act fast" or lose out. If you ever feel very pressured to make a decision just remember its ok if you don't make it right away. Don't get fooled by these methods they use. Even advertisers do it. I have often seen a count down timer for a limited sale. Only to see it restart shortly after. They also like to limit the availability to create elitism and scarcity.

The best short advice i can give is simple. Sleep on it. Dont react right away. Dont be impulsive. Take your time. It took you a long time to make the money so make sure you take a long time on deciding where to spend it.

2. Use more than one wallet, even if it managed to get hacked you won't be losing your entire coins and tokens
3. Email has become a big target for hackers and scammers, be careful which links you click in your email

I got scammed before and only one person who just knows what happened, my best friend who gave me the money the amount that I scammed is the only one who knows what happened, I am really shy if someone knows what happened to me before. It is really hard to buy online,  but I trusted that person and now I lose money, but in terms of about airdrops, I choose what airdrops to join. I have one airdrop saw that you need to give even your private keys. So for sure, that's already a scam, private keys should not expose public and not applicable to share so be careful on what you were joining.

Being scammed- not yet, but being hacked-yes and twice. It occurred on my first days of engaging in crypto. One reason for that is ignorance of how the internet works and that includes hijacking your accounts like gmail and the likes that has passwords on it. Well I was at fault because I did not know that in spam emails you could be directed to an untrusted site that may leave you being compromised. lose about 800-1000 USD at that time but never I never cried, despite the unlucky experience I still manage to get back the money I lost in certain activities like bounty hunting, trading, and mining. even though I had such bad experience I still leave my crypto currencies on centralized exchange, it is almost a year since I opened them, I am waiting for the right time, somehow I believe deep inside that it will be back, those times that alts are it's peakk point were easy money in this business is every where- I am not losing hope here.

That is the main trick used by scammers. Make big offers that will drive people crazy. They even lose their sense of thinking and understanding after coming across such unreal offers and even if they wont believe, they are going to give it a shot as there is nothing wrong with trying. Scammers are not that good at hacking wallets, even not with methods like brute forcing. And like you said, do not enter the territory that is unknown.

But we have to consider that some people just do not know better especially the victims of phishing and I thank you for adding it in this post, bookmarking your favourite pages would help many people avoid this scam method as well.

For email, this is what people most mistake. They use 1 email to use in main wallet and then other account. I think it is necessary if use 2 emails and 1 for main and the other one is to share in crypto world or maybe in bounty/airdrop. With that, our main email wouldn't easily reveal and not targeted by scammer easily.

When you have to do so much just to try to not get scammed instead of concentrating on trying to make money with your investments then it is a better idea to just forget about investing in new coins, many do not like this idea because they do not want to entertain the idea of limiting their potential profits, but since my capital is limited I cannot risk my coins in projects that ultimately will not bring me any benefit and not only will waste my money but my time as well.

There's a basic way , first don't fall in any testimonials of project and promises because mostly nowadays are copy paste and not trustworthy, which is make a research if it's genuine to assure if its legitimat one, and second be aware and stay away on some projects that selling with a no value coin because it's uncertain and indeed totally scam IMO. Much better to invest or buy a coin with finished projects wherein certain and there is a possibility always you can get good return .

to not get scammed you need to do detailed research about the project you want to follow, especially the background of the team and the developer, the road map of the project and also what products they offer in the market. on the one hand you don't use all your money just for investment projects, it might be far better to set aside for cryptoqurrency investments too.

That method now it is no longer effective because now there are already many projects that look like seriously promising. it will be difficult to distinguish which is a scam and which is not. in my opinion, use the feeling if you are not sure, so do not invest.

I agree. as i said, if doing research is no longer effective, then to avoid a lot of losses that is do not using all the money to invest in one type of project. And choose other types of investment alternatives that have been more promising, so it can recover if experience losses in investing in a project.

right, many new investors have fallen victim, so in the end the results are not as expected. new investors usually have a high emotion, so they cannot control it, and this impacts on the inaccuracy in analyzing the project. if we take the steps above, of course, can reduce the case of scams

Correct, if you find time to go deeper to fully understand everything and not jump into conclusion about this business. Most of those who loses their investment failed to step forward and advance to have a good edge among those traders inside this market. If you will do your homework and make sure to have a good assessment before taking your feet inside the market. Observing the actual field of this place will made you more familiar and can build right decision making.

1. Don't trust your money to anyone on the internet
2. Do not Join on HYIPs and Ponzis (Don't be greedy being greedy is highly falls into the trap)
3. If you are investing on a coin research the team the white paper to if the project is copied in someone else's project

I agree that to avoid scam projects, we must be patient and not greedy and not rushing. If we wait patiently for a project to be traded in the market, we will get a chance to buy at a cheaper price and for a new project, in my opinion we should always do research first about the team behind the project.

As long as we think about investing, we will always be in a state of risk, more precisely, fraud can come to us any time when we have haste, errors in analysis and thought, therefore, if you do not want to get into a scam, it is best to stay away from investment-related projects. But the fact is that if we do such things, our profits will not be high, even I don't want to say is very low and almost zero, and after all, we want to be better, we need to take risks, accept we can fall into the trap of scammers, prevention is only temporary, cannot be absolute

That is absolutely true of this, and in addition to this also, we have to learn to stop relying on hype, because what I have seen people use in choosing project in the past is because of hype, and it depend on the marketing strength of the project which hype should not be used as a criteria to know if a project will have a growth in future or not, but we need to focus more on the team and the product that the team chooses to offer.

If the product is another duplicated of the hundreds of projects that are already available in the market, believe me that there is nowhere that these projects are going to, it is only a real working project with a new concept and a very great team that can make a project to grow in value.

If only it was this easy, scammers are really smart, they have been trying to find new and innovative ways to scam people for a lot of time, the second point that you bring of not joining HYIP is valid but they have learned to disguise those programs and make it look like something else, and the perfect example are icos, it may seem as if you are investing in a coin that has a lot of potential to grow quickly only to find out a few months later that the coin is a scam and you will never recover your money.

Honestly we can't be 100 percent safe from scam projects, few ones are well created and they will show no sign of been scam like many scam projects that steal whitepapers or use fake teams

I have learned a lot of things after that incident and now I was able to overcome different problems because my experiences help me to realize my mistakes.
in the world of investment and trading, profits that can be obtained easily and even a few percent profit after we deposit at the beginning is very sweet indeed and we are definitely interested. but that's precisely what we should pay attention to, the reputation of the team, the manager, and how the coins develop in the market will be the determinant of whether what they say is true or not. maybe if the one who promises is bitcoin with a long-standing exchanger like binance, that alone isn't enough to convince, let alone a new project with a new list of exchangers as well.

therefore we must be careful and never be interested in profits that can be obtained easily. because we always struggle every day.

Then the solution is easy don't you think? You need to stop investing in icos and ieos, I know that those that are new to this market do not really want to do that because they want to obtain the same benefits as those that invested early in many of the top coins of the market, but they need to understand that ill will be a tremendous challenge for any coin being released today to become part of the top 50, so all of those profits that they imagine that they are leaving over the table are not there to begin with.

Stop investing with ICOs and IEOs are best solution how to stop for scam investment, you can hold and save your money in the bank keep safety although ten years later and you money keep the same with the first time you save, but with bitcoin and altcoin investing you can increase higher or lower value just one week or one months later, but you have ready with risk by bitcoin and altcoin have lower price.

Don't forget accidentally copying and pasting wallet seed in a chat room, rip my 400 euros worth of btc

In Cryptocurrencies, when something sounds too good to be true, then it's definitely too good to be true, I recently saw a group in telegram that was offering Cryptocurrency loans with just 10% collateral, basically you could deposit 1 BTC and collect a loan of 10 BTC, it sounds stupid when I say it like this but the fact is that some starry-eyed newbies would still fall for it, afterall some people still fell for the money doubling schemes.

As you said, too good to be true offer. The loan scammers usually ask to send a small amount of ETH before the main amount and they block the telegram buyer after the first confirmation on the blockchain. The victims fall to this trap and the scammers repeat their robbing with different tactics. A while ago, one scammer sends me a site and asked to withdraw 0.1 BTC which is blocked by the site due to the IP address. I knew she was a scammer and just checked the given login on the casino site, it worked but the site as a designed amateur. I am sure the owner of the site and she were the same people behind the shady site, just blocked her after reporting to Telegram.

Just be careful what you do, spend some time in researching and verifying the information you saw somewhere. And from time to time we all face with some risk, new projects under the radar, without many info around except their official site, then you risk some little amount you can afford to lose, it is in a case if you like the project but you are not sure if it's safe.

The biggest problem of todays society is greed, even when people are doing good profit from a coin (50-70%) they are not selling them. They keep holding all their altcoins and sooner or later the price drops and makes -x10.

make sure not to get caught up in the hype without understanding it first, many people regret being harmed without knowing what he is doing at all, they only follow investments made by friends / groups / etc, so that only feelings arise to join as soon as possible.

Sometimes scams are so subtle, that we cannot sue at all when experiencing the worst. then look for other sources to cover losses, and the same case continues to repeat.

in the same way, greed killed many people in 2017 because they thought that cryptocurrency would grow forever and 80 percent of people who bought bitcoin for 600-1000 dollars did not sell it for 20 thousand. it was a very big mistake of many investors

Sounds funny when people still believe in money doubling, how can one use 1BTC to get 10BTC? Anyone who get scammed in this manner is foolishly greedy. Even on twitter, I see scammers replying tweets from popular crypto influencers saying they are doing a bonanza, send 1 ETH get 2 ETH something of this nature, and people still fall prey. We all need to be wise, common sense is not common.

It's quite difficult to control this. Especially if there is an opportunity, surely the desire to get more profit will arise, even though the opportunity is small and has already benefited at hand. Human nature, we must really be able to control this, this will also make us easily affected by FOMO.

Never ever trust your funds in the hands of another person especially a stranger who messages you on telegram, infact when a random stranger messages you on telegram without your permission, block them immediately before they even say anything to avoid being convinced to part with your money because if one juicy offer or another. What they have learnt now is to claim to be professional traders that could help you trade and remit the profits to you and it must have been working on some people because they scammers seem more persistent than ever.

In my opinion, of the many scams that occurred, the beginning was because we were too greedy to get money. So we cannot think
rationally about what we are going to do, for example there is a site offering to make money you have doubled in the short term by
depositing some money. If we think intelligently there is no easy way to get money, we will immediately realize it is a fraud. But
because greed has taken hold of our minds, we cannot think rationally anymore. Finally, we believe and are deceived, and therefore
we must avoid greed. Because it is very dangerous to make we are easily fooled.

I have invested in a legit project before, I did my research, check the team, the feasibility of the project and all.
But the tokens are now worthless, seems that the team has no success of implementing their system.
I can't say that they scammed the investors, but I think they have no luck in making their platform a reality.

All the same, the time of HYIPs and other options for quick money has passed, everything that appears now needs to be attributed to extremely risky and speculative options that will most often be a scam.
Use the tools that major players and professionals use, these tools are in plain sight and on everyone’s lips.

The market is the best teacher of all time, no one can guide you to find the perfect entry and exit price points. The greedy human psychology is the reason behind the flash crash and monthly uptrend on the crypto charts, it is same psychology in other financial markets. If you missed the trading opporutnity, don't overthink about it, another opportunity will shine on the corner.

I think being knowledgable in cryptocurrency is already a thing to avoid being a scam if you already know the market and how things work in the crypto world,
It will be easy for you to identify the scam websites and scam advertisement on the internet. A lot of newbie in cryptocurrency getting scam because they are being greedy in earning a good amount of bitcoin in a lot of websites I experience joining an HYIP in my years in cryptocurrency and if the advertisement of the website is too good to be true if it obviously a scam. There is no way you could earn a 20-50% of your investment daily with just investing your money this kind of scheme online or HYIP was just a bait and probably they are just circulating the money of others in your account.

Where when you first join the cryptocurrency, we will be easy to believe in a word and we will be easily attracted by what they say so we will believe and participate to participate in the project without observing and knowing more about the project. So here, I think it is very important for beginners not to easily believe and at least seek understanding in this forum.

If you do performed routine studies and not to relax each but to ensure that you are well aware to anything that happened inside this industry, then the chance of being victimized is slim. The best way one can run away from getting scammed is by doing research to know the exact project to invest and to also know if team are up and doing like having updates on Thier soci handles, if they have working products, check their road map if they are following it sequentially or have done a bit up. If there are processes, just know it's a genuine coin to invest .

If there are processes, just know it's a genuine coin to invest .

Doing a research is not an easy thing to do. Most of us here, including me, have some basic knowledge and we
make a basic research. We relay on some experts, if we know any, and their expertise. But as we know crypto-
currencies are new for everyone, experts just have more experience and probably some technical knowledge
for doing a deeper research.
Educating ourselves and people around can help us to not get scammed. But like always there are no guarantees
that you will not run into some perfect scam.

It's not enough to just do a research for a day, you really need time and effort as you cannot have a good observation and investigation in a limited time. You need to at least observe it in a week or so, also if in doubt because your mind tells you so, but your heart says that the team always there, seems so nice, they even conduct AMA, still better to follow your mind not your heart as your mind is much superior than your heart.

This analysis are really correct especially the FOMO trap, i have lost in the past cause of FOMO but i learnt my lesson. Now I do a thorough research and study the whitpaper for days, i will rather invest more in Bitcoin than investing in an unverified new altcoin.

All great advice to avoid being scammed as there are many different types of scams out there and hacking methods used to fleece investors of their capital so be very vigilant and, always check to ensure you're using reputable exchanges, secure wallets and individual details for each account to minimize loss
Make sure to learn all the advance securities that you can provide to your accounts / wallets as there's always new things that this hackers/scammers will use in order to penetrate to your assets. If you do performed routine studies and not to relax each but to ensure that you are well aware to anything that happened inside this industry, then the chance of being victimized is slim. Better than doing nothing and find yourself inside the shoes of those victims.
This is the easiest way to point out a scam project. The offers are a way too unrealistic and juicy. The promising words literally make the person feel like as he will miss the train to heaven and regret the mistake of not participating as long as he lives. Why would anyone become this generous to you? Even with a little common sense and self-control, a person can protect himself from all sort of losses.

Investors have been doing something similar to that for years and it has not worked, scammers are simply too smart, they know what you're looking for and they can simulate all of those things and make it seem as if the project is any good when in fact they are trying to get your money, the only way in which you can protect yourself completely from being scammed is to avoid investing in icos, it is simply not realistic to think that you can do enough to avoid scammers when the market is full of them.

The fact is i never invest in any new projects because i don't need to, old altcoins are better and safer and if i have to hold any new token or coin it will be from bounty projects, scammers are making money off innocent victims everyday so they are every where, i can change my mind only when regulation get approved
Unfortunately thats true, majority of new projects are just scam and making money by the naive investors who buy their too good to be true offer, sometimes investors are at fault for believing this kind of promises.

I also prefer to hold the old coins because they are already well established, and even you hold it for long period you wont get worried that it will lose its value and be delisted in exchanges.

I often read articles or write-ups to avoid hackers and it's very useful for me to secure my assets. And also i always be careful when logging in, registering to a website or when downloading files i usually check first whether the file contains a virus or not

same here  . reading really helps to increase our knowledge  . now i dont yet experienced to get hacked but some of my friends  did get hacked because they are still lack some technical knowledge . i did once  suggest them that add 2fa's on thier account but they dont listen to me . i guess that is thier fault anymore because they are sometimes hard headed or lazy but once they got hacked they will just complain and blame the owner of the wallet  .

Seen some awesome answers and I would be adding them soon, keep the suggestions coming.

thats a great reading..
as i said to a friend of mine few days ago: "the best lessons i got in life were when i lost everything"
i see that you also learned few leasons from your own mistakes and from mistakes of others too
i also learned that we should stay as we are and keep trying even if something terrible happened, because every successful/rich person had the moment of "losing everything" once or multiple times.
the only difference between the people is: one stays and one leaves

thank you for the insparation

I know it might sound cold but I have to admit that reading up on the sob stories of others tends to help me stay more grounded and coutious, there is a telegram group fully dedicated to this, they forward sob stories from all over telegram into the Channel, sometimes even twitter and other platforms, if there is anywhere on the internet where someone lost money through Cryptocurrencies and the victim posts about it, it would be forwarded in the channel, seeing the failures cost by FOMO  has made me a much more cautious investor.

The best way to learn is not from your own mistakes but the mistakes of others, this will save you time and money and this is true not only in the markets but in every aspect of our lives, so what you are doing is not cold it is just a very smart thing to do since many people come to this market with the desire of becoming rich and most of the time the opposite happens to them, and this should be a lesson to all of us there is not really a fast path to becoming rich, if you want that to happen to you then you need to work really hard for it.

That is very clever of you to use telegram in your favor and keep yourself updated with the latest frauds. People must understand the importance of their online safety first. Only then they can make beneficial moves like you. The biggest problem with users is that they show a careless attitude towards most of online activities. Crypto currencies are a hot topic for everyone, which includes scammers so cautions are required.
indeed not all investors in the crypto world experience success, a good idea for those who fail to tell their experiences so that they can be read by many people and we can review so as not to make mistakes like that. at least it can be learned by many people

will only strengthen your vigilance but actually reduce your confidence. I have done it and really increase my fear to be involved in anything, at that time there was a negative case about btc-e and cryptopia and I didn't even dare to register in any particular exchange anymore, it was an example for market exchange, for investment stories many other effects.

I try to be more insightful by reading positive reviews from well-known articles, communicating with investors who are more sensitive in analyzing business, and avoiding unclear investments, automatically everything that is in my mind is more comfortable, it's better not to know too many sad things from the victims.

I agree that trading is the fairest way to reduce risk. new projects are many fraudulent projects, so that they can use up the funds we have. trading on top ranking coins on the coin marketcap can be an option, and we must learn to fundamentally and technically

For you to be able to avoid those scamming projects, you must be able to have enough knowledge first here in the cryptocurrency. There are a lot of investments here and one of the very common investments was investing to a project and waiting the project to reach he soft and hard cap of them then you will earn, but be aware of those scamming projects that is in the first they are good at paying but later on they will just be missing like a bubbles that will pop, and also don't be to much greed because one of the many reason why people get scammed is because of their greediness to earn.
This is indeed what often happens to investors who invest in new projects, where they lack understanding and are too greedy to get large profits and then when they start to be interested in investing in the project, the people behind the project take advantage of the opportunity to take it away the money they have gotten from funding.

This information is very useful and beneficial especially to the new cryptocurrency enthusiast. Greed is something we all are guilty of. I had my fair share of losses due to greed when I recently joined the industry and got involved in hyip which brought great set back to my finances. I wish I was wiser then, because bitcoin was very easy to earn during those years.

Yes that is why self-control is a must have here inside the crypto world because it can save you a thousand times from being scammed by strangers in the internet. I known a few friends who lost some money just because they're not thinking first about their actions and in result scammers take advantage if it and scammed them. We all need to remember that a having a good self-control will help us avoid scammers.

I believe greed is the most prevalent reason for getting scammed both in the cryptocurrency space and the world at large. Most people who scam others presents a better deal to their victims. This serves as a bait to attract the naive and innocent, thinking that the offer will work in their advantage not knowing the opposite is their lot.

Sometimes it's not even websites we have used before that steals our information, it's mostly new websites that we have never used before and some people tend to google them and sometimes end up in the wrong websites, we can never be too careful and most importantly, we shouldn't use the same password for every website we use because your password could be stolen from a website that isn't even financially related and used to hack your financial accounts.

Scammers always make fake or phishing websites and I think we are wary of this. To know this, we must always check the security of the websites we visit from the web certificate. In addition, to avoid scammers and phishing links, do not carelessly click on links sent from people we don't know

Of all the mistakes that people make not creating an individual password for each website is the one that is the most unforgivable, there are even applications that help you to create new passwords that are impossible to guess, the only thing that you need to do is to download it and and install it and it will generate new passwords for you without the need of remembering them and if anyone is still using the same password for every single website then he deserves to get hacked for taking his security so lightly.

knowledge is important after that, relationships also become important because if you have many relationships you will find it easier to find projects to do research, then you can invest or join a bounty campaign if you have one. but knowledge is preferred because if you don't have knowledge you can only listen to people's references without being able to understand the concept of the project independently
Both of them I feel are important where we have knowledge and also relationships with several people, so we can ask for advice from some people we trust or you could say the people closest to us who know about cryptocurrency and then we make our own observations about what has been suggested by him, how the research we do, whether in accordance with what is said or not and then it can be a reason for us to make decisions.

In addition, to avoid scammers and phishing links, do not carelessly click on links sent from people we don't know
Best also to bookmarks those trusted website from your device it will lessen the possible attackers to hacked you out. Getting inside this industry always have the responsibility to take care of yourself, there's a lots of hackers and if you failed to do your research you will be more prone with risk that's involve with this market.

There are some factors like greed, hype, lavish promises that work for the incidents of investors and bounty hunters getting scammed. There are groups of scammers, who give sweet promises and talk big only to scam investors. I find your very useful and informative about avoiding scam projects and stay safe from getting scammed. Thank you for it.

Almost all of the investors are greedy but not all of them are smart, if you are smart and greedy at the same time, you might still be successful investing here, because you know how to play the game in your favor.

The problem with some investors are they are greedy and stupid at the same time, they just look at one side which is the reward and look away on the risk.
They don't understand the risk and reward in crypto, they think if they invest here, it will be like a money machine that will give instant return.

I think we need to add one more thing, which is the unprofessional idea.
For fraud projects, they often offer roadmaps and limited visibility. Their whitepaper only focuses on the price of tokens and big discounts and some limited information about the market. That is also a way to identify fraud.
Avoid projects that only talk about price, price, and price.
Avoid projects that only talking about pump, pump and pump, even if asked about the advantages of the project, the team responded as if he didn't understand the project he was working on. Shit Project

These are relevant informations that can really be followed to avoid been scammed. To be scammed on the internet really cuses a lot of mixed feelings on oneself and it takes some fols like forever to come out of the loss

Yeah, specially by the newbies or for those who want to get into cryptocurrency. They are the ones who are prone to this kind of activity which the scammers exploit in order to get an easy from from hard earn money of others. I would say not to trust those who are initiating PM's, projects with high return of investments, ROI within just a short period of time. All we need is proper research and be inquistive since it we are the ones that are responsible for our actions.

Don't forget to do escrow if you want to trade with other guys. It doesn't matter how much to trade, with escrow you can avoid fraud.

Instead of peer to peer transactions, it's better to trade on exchangers and in my opinion this is a safe method if we want to invest. Escrow might be an alternative to peer to peer transactions but in my opinion it's still not safe because sometimes we don't know the escrow account holder

Agree, the developer team should not promise the price of the token will reach price X but rather focus on product development. The developer team should have no control over prices because the market will determine it and the market is a fair judge

Best is not to go by what people say or demo from calls regarding project mooning. Do you research, follow the project from product to community and team, know if they are real or fake, when they have working products and they are actuallizing that's when you will know the project got future not ny fud .

I remembered a very good lesson, never believe in huge profits that projects team is promising. Calculate everything on your own and if somebody is offering more than 5 percent per months, they are running a ponzi scheme.

You are very accurate, greed, FOMO and hype has made some persons got scammed by projects , imagine having 50% interest instead of selling you are waiting for 200% profit when you are really not sure of the project and some are hype from paid groups to say good regarding the project which without good monitoring one join and buy. It's good you check before joining any project despite good said about it.

It's a grievous mistake, to use almost the same and sometimes very close password across different websites. If you feel you can easily forget the password used, why not get a note in which you can record all your passwords. Using different and complex characters can help protect your accounts.

Indeed, having different passwords in our accounts are much safer. Its one of the simple way to prevent ourselves ending up in a worse situation like hacking. We should be careful always not clicking those links sent from our email because it might a trap to hack your account.

And keep in mind that in crypto there's no easy way to double your money so dont believe scammers word to make you rich quick.

For sure people who want to scam with us will give us good promise that does not even exist so better not to listen to them only this way we can avoid scamming. Projects that we choose for investing money should be a famous one and people must feel safe to get involved otherwise they will scam us and we will later regret investing in fake sites.

They experience the hype when 2017 comes and they think that it would happen always so they come up from assuming that they could earn from the following years so then when the year comes that there are a lot of scammer releases they get caught by trust of they've experience. Now, there are a lot of scam so think wisely because it would affect the price of bitcoin by a lot of scammer get a few victim.

You really gave out the best tips so far and I wish majority of us would read and adhere to this points, I love the part "Repeat Password", as I have many friends that do use same password for all their transactions, now will copy this post link and send to them so they can read through

It is really cautious getting engage into something which promises to make someone to get rich in a quick or an instant way. Though it is really encouraging to get along with those promises, we must be mindful that getting rich can only be instant if you were born rich, otherwise, getting rich cannot be done in an instant and single way instead you must work hard for you to be able to get rich. The urge of getting rich is the main factor used by the scammers to easily victimized people to get engage into them. This is when greed enters, because we do want to get rich in an instant, we are not able to think well about our decision making that is when we are easily attracted to scam engagements. To avoid being scammed, we must keep our mind well focused on thinking and secure our accounts that we are the only one who have the access on it and do not entrust anything to a stranger. Getting rich can be done on a step by step basis and we must not push it too hard so we can avoid getting along into a scam.

We are not great, all tend to submit botches. On the off chance that we are hesitant to commit errors, this is a block for us to attempt. In the event that we don't attempt, how might we develop ourselves? I think the most ideal approach to do it is to teach yourself, know the fundamental and be prepared to submit botches.

Trying to develop oneself should be done by everyone, because it is very important, but at this time all people are not only required to learn in trying, but also have to learn to analyze something, both basically and in the end.

For getting rich there is no need to be a "lucky born baby". The financial literacy is the name of power that can change the lives of people, the financial market has equal rights for everyone.
The scammers are wise they know how to hunt the quick-rich believers. The trap is ready and the inexperienced crypto users will fall to this or another trap unless they get educated.

yes, you don't have to be born into a rich family, you can learn from rich people, or make friends with them, and don't have to cheat or make scam projects, at least use good methods, don't be bad people.

Right? People actually already know all these things. Common sense should prevail, but like all people when greed takes over, they just simply choose to ignore common sense and go along with their luck. They're all speculators and gamblers hoping to make a quick buck, and exit faster than others do.

The tears will come but they'll forget, and then they come back for more.

But that is the thing even if they won any money by investing in all of those HYIP that will have nothing to do with their skill it will have to do with their luck, in my opinion the worst thing that it can happen to you if you invest in those HYIP is to win the first time that you invest in it, this may seem counterintuitive but it is true, because if the first time you invest you lose then you will consider all of those promising great profits scammers but if you win you will think there is a legitimate chance to win when that is not actually true.

I no longer believe ico that appears at this time.

I used to have an analysis to invest if sales had passed softcaps, at that time the project would fail in funding if it did not exceed that limit, but at this time almost all ICOs could not get a number of softcaps, so that all of their roadmaps were damaged instantly / scam. IEO is a little better because it is guaranteed with the exchange market, but here also needs to analyze the credibility of the exchange wisely.

The story of satowallet was a touching one. I have indeed learned from it. But now, I would recommend anyone looking for a better wallet to simply use a decentralized wallet such as Atomic Wallet. It gives users full ownership of their privacy and assets with added 300+ cryptocurrencies. Users can also purchase bitcoin directly from the wallet. The most interesting feature of the wallet to me is the reduces fee.Users can send funds at with very minimal ETH as fee. https://atomiwallet.io (https://atomiwallet.io)

Personally, I consider and adhere to my own rules that help me avoid scammers. First of all, I always try to be very attentive, as often just because of my carelessness we will pop into the scam traps. Check each letter of any site very carefully, since one letter or even a dot can affect you and you will be trapped in a scammer. So great success in the new year.

And that is key, many of those that are investing in cryptocurrencies do not really know much about the market and they have no way to tell apart a scam from a good project and that can be really problematic especially if your main interest is to invest in those coins to make a lot of money and the only option for an investor like that is to avoid icos and only invest in coins that have proven to the investors in this market that they are serious and can survive in this market for years.

it sums up all the method to not get baited by scammers actually, the biggest reason why people are often get scammed is that they just usually click whatever links they found without filtering it which makes they become vulnerable of hacking attacks. if people starts to open their eyes about this and think twice before clicking anything and then this internet would become free with scam attempts.

I think having cryptocurrency experience is already a thing to avoid scamming, if you already know the market and how things work in the crypto world, it will be easy for you to identify scam websites and internet scam advertising. A lot of newbies in cryptocurrency get scammed because they are too greedy in earning a ton of bitcoins in ponzies or pyramids. The thing you have to remember is that if something seems to be too good to be true then it probably is
Most of us have been beginners and I think people have experienced fraud cases too, but those who have survived are people who have an attitude and perseverance in this industry. and to stay away from scammers is probably the experience and also the ability that each year will grow in each person.

In this market is impossible to not cross your path with scammers from time to time but what people like us do differently compared to the newbies is that we understand that most of the offers that we find in the market are not real and so we say no to most of the propositions that we receive, while newbies as soon as they see some big numbers they begin to think about all the money that they're going to make only to be disappointed at the end by the lack of results and the capital they will lose.

Scammers are one of the major problem in the market. The risks are keep increasing because of th scammers. Actually, it is now really hard to find a legit projects in this present year. Identifying if the project is also hard task, it requires depth research in order to know if it is legit or not. If we want to not fet scammed then we should focus on how we will improve what we currently know.

I also experienced in greed and HYIPs. But both of them is our fault. Most of HYIPs is almost 0% that will legit for a long time. And I ever fall for it.
And about "click the random website", I think this is the most dangerous thing. If you joined some airdrop, you will received some email too from unknown person. That email will send malicious link. Don't ever click it, because it's 100% a phising site.

I wonder why people still fall for crypto ponzi scams especially. How can you believe and invest in platforms offering 30 to 200 percent in a couple of days lol. I pity those who got scammed by token sale especially when the project has so much hype but at the end they still scam.

People will eventually learn, the sad thing for those who fall for ponzi scheme is they have to learn the hard way.

With the potential of the market, a lot of investors will try to put their money to invest, however, not all of them understand the market, some are just too greedy focus on the reward and not on the risk, that's why scammers are still here because of these naive people.

There is nothing wrong in believing on what other people says to you but you should verify or double check all of the information that they have told you so you will see if they are just lying or not.

I got scammed by char token. They first did an airdrop and then they open up their own exchange where we can buy and sell char token and some other token. When we saw the buy and sell is running and the price is very good I bought some token from my local friends and exchange it in that exchange but when I withdraw then they are asking for proof that I bought from a person. that is not how a good company behave with their customer. But still, I gave them every proof they were asking for but still, they didn't pay me my money. I can still remember they took my 150$+ money. They did it with a lot of people. so I recommend that you don't be fooled by any project if you saw a very good price in any exchange or CMC. Do some research first because it could be a scam.

If you want to avoid getting scammed by the projects or any offer in the internet or even in our realistic world then you should know how to be distinguished a foolish project on a realistic one. There is nothing wrong in believing on what other people might say to say or offer to you. But be more careful on choosing good kind of investment or projects kike the Aci coin.

Yes indeed, better to study first all the basics and all the team's offering in order for us not to make any mistakes or get scammed. We need to be sure that the project we are joining whether it is a bounty campaign or an ICO/IEO we need to be aware about everything and we need to research what they has been saying in their whitepaper.

That is really common and something like that has happened to everyone once in a while and then the developers of those useless coins wonder why no one wants to promote their project, once you have been scammed several times you are never going to give the benefit of the doubt to those projects and will just assume that every single one of them is a scam, it can be unfair for some of the projects out there but I do not care as long as that keeps my coins in my wallet safe from scammers.

I agree into those reasons you have stated above that are needed to be avoided so you won't be able to get scammed by any suspicious schemes that are aiming to hack your assets or scam it by making you believe into something that they just made or existing but are just made for their own benefit. Yes, greed is one of the most common reason why people easily get scammed because of wanting to have excessive instant money, scammers are taking the opportunity and advantage to convince you on making massive investment and promised to get your money to multiply in just a short span of time. Associated with greediness is the one you have mentioned which is rushing because nothing gets any good on rushing things or making impulsive decision making. To avoid being scammed, you must be observant and at the same time thinking many times before getting into an investment. Prior to that, you must always check reliability of the person or site where you wish to entrust your funds. Do not rush things out. I just have to add out ignorance. Sorry for the term being used but mostly on some cases, being unknowledgeable can also put a person into scam because of not knowing anything about such thing. So still being knowledgeable as well as observant is the key to avoid getting scammed.

Things like this were experienced by many people in the period 2018 and 2019. IEO does not guarantee it will be a profitable investment because many IEO prices actually fall below the IEO price. But if we invest in IEO, it's better to choose IEO that is held by large exchangers because at least with a large transaction volume value, the token becomes liquid

in essence, we must be careful in choosing investment projects
the thing that I often do to avoid scams is to see their github / partner that is confirmed by the partner on their news
Regarding account security, this is what I often do is repeat the same password
in my opinion it's not a problem but we have to prepare additional security such as 2fa, mobile verification, email verification etc.
until now my account is still safe because of other security support
maybe this is a little tips from me to deal with account theft, close your webcam and never to allow any web to track or use a webcam

In fact, no one is immune from fraud.  Of course, the results of our research depend on our professionalism and previous experience, but nevertheless this does not always give the desired results.  I am wary of any investment in new projects, but deal with them as a Bounty Hunter.  And if I invest my money, then only in proven projects that will definitely have prospects in the future, as well as in already held cryptocurrencies that have a very high rating.

obviously no one can avoid this state of fraud, despite trying to keep an eye on and pay attention to what is necessary so as not to be exposed to fraud. I agree with the above opinion that it is wiser to refrain from investing in new projects that we really don't believe in. it is better to invest in the obvious, and do not hesitate to accept CMC as a reference for determining the investment.

I agree, for the current conditions, I think it is too risky and speculative to invest in a new project unless the new project carries out an IEO in a reputable exchanger. Investing in coins that have been registered with coin marketcap can give us an idea of market value and liquidity so that it is safer

There were just numerous ways outside there device by scammers.

Just at the beginning of this week, a guy messaged me on telegram and asked me if I have ETH, BTC or LTC. He said he has been a part of deciding team members of one online gaming platform, that he can make a me winner if I  place a bet and that 50% of my win will be transferred to him. I said no problem, then he sent me the link of the site and asked me to open an account.

After I opened account, he asked me to send him my username which I did. Then I said what's the next step.  He said I need to bet a minimum of $100 to win $2000-5000. So I teased him further on how to place a bet, then he told me he is going to generate wallet address for me based on which coin out of the three I earlier mentioned. He said that's where I will deposit the bet.

I don't need anyone to tell me that's a scammer, but a greedy person would have jumped into that offer. Let's don't be in a rush to participate in any thing, at least a few findings can probably save us a lot of regrets.

The number one point you stated is just the main point of it all. Greed is the number one determinant factor why people get scammed. Promises of high return on investment even when you know it's not achievable. If we can put away greed and realise that nothing good comes easy, the issue and cases of scam will be reduced to the barest.

Yes, now everyone wants to make money on the Internet and at the same time not spend a penny. But such a freebie does not happen in order to make a profit it is necessary to invest your money. And first of all I want to tell all newcomers that it is very difficult to make a good profit on the Internet. More often than not, a novice will strike at scammers and then suffers from his credulity. It is necessary to competently check and study everything and only then proceed with actions and carry out the task.

The simplest formula is with keeping things straight and simple. If we are able to manage that right then it will only take us to right direction. One of the key points to note is not to invest in anything random because that is just pure suicide.

This is one important point. In the world of crypto and other things connected to the internet, we have to divide up several things. Main account and backup account, including password usage. This is for the security of your data. If you use the same password for all important accounts, then if one of your accounts can be hacked then it will endanger the others, as OP explained. Backup email is used to register on the website or other things that are public and not too important so that access to your primary email is completely clean from other activities. Don't forget to prepare a special notebook to record emails and passwords and other things that make it easier for you to organize your account.

Getting scammed in this industry is very easy owing to the influx of several unscrupulous individuals who parade themselves as team members for projects which have no use case and they end up dumping the tokens on the community and holders. Greed makes one an easy prey for these thieves and take advantage of one's ignorance.

Im also seeking way not to get scammed. Its the thing that im avoiding.I've read some comments and it will surely help me a lot.And also im not greedy,Just a little bit impatient but i can surwly handle that. And im using diffrrent wallet too,i think it wise to do so.
In fact, no one is immune from fraud.  Of course, the results of our research depend on our professionalism and previous experience, but nevertheless this does not always give the desired results.  I am wary of any investment in new projects, but deal with them as a Bounty Hunter.  And if I invest my money, then only in proven projects that will definitely have prospects in the future, as well as in already held cryptocurrencies that have a very high rating.

depends on the person.if people who have just participated will certainly be more susceptible to fraud, while old people will know which sites are true and which are fake.
but, when choosing the project, it will seem a little difficult, because the scamer has a way of deceiving the hunter, and investor.

In crypto space learn never to give out but to receive only, buy coins and hold or trade on big exchanges, do not look at good offers twice because they are scam

I was introduced into the cryptocurrency space with HYIPS, I thought the industry was a get rich quick scheme and devoted my time and resources in HYIPs. I lost everything I earned along the line and was depressed. I've come to realise that greed is the most prevalent reason for people getting scammed in this space. Most people believe that the industry would make the rich quickly, but have been disappointed, just like me.

And people like that would blame it on btc instead of recognizing their mistakes and learn from it, we all have our different experiences in crypto, how we got into it can be different but most of us have grown to understand it and learn from our past mistakes,
I have lost money too on hyips although not everything I owned but some good amount that would have yielded good results if I had invested through the right way and right project.

obviously no one can avoid this state of fraud, despite trying to keep an eye on and pay attention to what is necessary so as not to be exposed to fraud. I agree with the above opinion that it is wiser to refrain from investing in new projects that we really don't believe in. it is better to invest in the obvious, and do not hesitate to accept CMC as a reference for determining the investment.
- Exactly, it is difficult to avoid fraudsters in the crypto world when they have so many ways to lead us to participate in the fake projects they create, regardless of whether we try to be careful or analyze, as long as we continue to invest, the probability of getting involved in scams is still relative, aegardless of whether we try to be careful or analyze, as long as we continue to invest, the probability of getting involved in scams is still relative. I would not invest into any project now due to the present market condition. There will be many projects that will come up to either help the vi crime or to stop the virus. All of these projects will be scams so stay away from investment at the moment.

That is why I believe that even the most thorough analysis may not give a 100% guarantee on the success of your business or your investments.  There is always a chance that the fraudster will be much smarter than you can identify.  Maybe I don’t have enough experience, but as a Bounty Hunter, I also always hope for other users who work with me in the bounty company, as well as for the Bounty manager, who also has a fairly high rating on bitcointalk, which is already good  chance to prevent fraud.

You are really right about the dangers that await any cryptocurrency user, but you should also pay attention to the fact that Coinmarketcap is no longer an authoritative resource that you can trust without question.  There is quite a lot of information on CMC abuse on bitcointalk when incorrect or incorrect information is provided to users.

This is really a good reminder to everyone here because it is one of the most common reasons I think why we are losing some funds. To think of it that we should make a different password per website, it is such a hassle right? So we are making the same password at different websites. But to think of it that our funds are at stake, we should not think that it is a hassle. We should make different passwords per website or account so that you can prevent hackers to get your account and your funds. It is just a simple task but it is important, we are all thinking that the problem is simple but in the reality, there are lots of people being hacked and not only that because hackers can hack it when the password is the same.

I had an experience similar to yours but in a slightly different format. I used a lot of passwords for many accounts, and as a backup location for storing these passwords, I used my email.
I think you already guessed that one day my e-mail was compromised and all the passwords leaked to the attacker. Thus, he gained access to some wallets and managed to withdraw a certain part of my money.
I was extremely upset and did not know what to do. Subsequently, I recovered from the blow, strengthened my security and now I devote a lot of time to my safety and the safety of my assets.

Also, I suggest that avoid those eye-catching projects and sweet words from people that you in this industry it or they most probably scam you.

But you need to hear from several cases how various scammers tricked their victims who initially felt they were not stupid enough to give their money to the scammers.

I think what causes this type of unwanted situation is ignorance and greed. People are too greedy that sometimes they throw their money at any uncertain place. You should be careful about any investment plan you offered in the telegram and the project you are investing in. Only invest through a verified Exchange or a reputable website. You can trust a reputable figure in crypto also.

Market observation, continued learning, regular updates will make people stay away from scams. Most of the time people look for quick profit which is the reason for getting trapped on scams. Whenever we see a scam, there'll be a term bitcoin. This means people never realize or evaluate the project, just with the word bitcoin people go for investing. This isn't the right way to make an investment into bitcoin. People go for large scale investments expecting the quick return.

if they throw money why we should worry to them ? they are rich because they throw their money . they are not greedy because they dont need money anymore but they this can be termed as ignorance but to those that are not rich they will think twice and will value what they are dealing with  .

Some people are so gullible that they believe whatever they see. That's why we see a lot of attractive advertisement around the web. They come in different shape and forms. And though many people fall for such scams, a large part of it are people who have hard earned their money.
It's always a good idea to keep your eyes and mind open to save yourself from a scam. Transact and open your wallet only when you are sure about it.

Its a human nature to be greedy sometimes, unfortunately it is the main reason why some people are ending up in a wrong hands of scammers. Because they chose the easy way or the too good to be true offer just to earn quick which is not possible in crypto world.

To avoid scammers, dont trust easily. Keep learning about the nature of investment you want to get in and be aware of what to expect. Its fine to commit mistake sometimes because thats how you'll learn and understand further the investment.

For a person who wants to avoid scam, he should not have much confidence in everything he sees and verify the validity of any information or message that comes and make sure that he deals with the official website and not a fake site, and that he does not put his private key in any suspicious application or Google form, and he must not Be greedy and refuse any temptations.

Invest in the listed coins which known and reputed ones as this will help you to reduce the risk of getting scammed. Something like ETH, BNB, GAS etc are good coins and good project to invest as well. For the new one would need to do a lot of research and then take a call before investing as in recent year many turn out to be a scam or worthless coin in the end. If not able to identify and pick the right ones, then better to avoid such projects.
Bitcoin is the best investment of all time 8) To put bitcoin prices into investment profit and loss terminology, if you had invested five years ago, you would be sitting on a profit of thousands of percent. If you had invested $500 on October 24, 2010, congratulations, that was the time to buy as you’re a bitcoin multi-millionnaire! Your $500 is now worth an incredible $42,000,000 :o

Having a decent whitepaper and a good looking website doesn't guarantee the success of the project. You can create all these for $1,000 using a freelancing site. The trick lies with the implementation of the project. A lot of these projects start with a lot of hype, and then suddenly after 2-3 months all the activity comes to a grinding halt. Unfortunately for the investors, by the time they realize this all of their capital will be gone.

There are two things why other people haven't experienced getting scam. First, they are smart enough not to get trick or deceive by scammers that they already know all of its tricks, and lastly, they are not interested in earning money. So if you want to avoid getting scammed, you need to learn how to control your greed and research before you risk your money in projects.

By "deep research" people meant: examining whitepaper. No matter how "good" it look, always check it for signs of plagiarism. Check if what is really written there can be realized in real life and be demanded. Or this is all just hopes and imagination of team. Sometimes there projects that dont even need blockchain technology implemented.

Check projects team. Do their photos look real? Or just stock or stolen photos of someone else. Check their social media profiles. They must not be empty, newly created or consist only from projects info. How many times you have seen that a persons works for 3-5 projects, is interested in sports, have lots of hobbies and writes on his wall only about "insert-project-name-here".

Check when their webpage domain was registered. If they say they have already a lot of experience and made a lot of things, but their domain was registered a week ago and is paid only for 1-3 months. Skip this scam.

There's no doubt that get rich quick schemes and ponzi schemes are of no good to anyone. Most people join this scheme out of greed because of the wealth they promise in very short period of time. This schemes in most cases uses the payment of new members to pay the interest and principal of older members.

I definitely agree with this, having good whitepaper does not guarantee that the project is going to be successful it's still depends on the team's performance and community support. There are lots of projects with souch good whitepaper but were not able to perform well which led to its defunct. It is better to scrutinize the project before really getting into it.

In reality the risk is really high, hence the more we should be careful when it comes to investing. Investing in altcoins nowadays IMO is not really advisable, unless its an old coins, already have a development and listed in decent exchanges with volumes of $10,000 and up in 24 hours.

That figure is just my own gauge or qualification in choosing an investment.

Thanks for the post, it's helpful. I think there are still cases wherein even when someone has done the needed things might still ends up falling a victim. I have seen cases where a team with good funds ends up listing on a bad exchange and then exit scam, this was rampant then and made many people to hate most small exchanges. There are also cases where the team will use their funds to list on an exchange, hype it and gain attention, only for them to dump everything and exit scam.
So having seen all these, what I can say is, be mindful of small exchanges and if the team break their promises of listing on a small exchange as a start, dump as fast as possible, because they will hardly list on any other good exchange. Also, if you are in profit, just sell and move on, and even if you want to buy again make sure the team are not using hype to gain attention; but more preferably sell in profit and move on.
