Title: NaNa: A Bitcoin Spokesperson
Post by: Phinnaeus Gage on March 12, 2012, 10:59:47 PM
The below was originally pen for another thread, but as I kept typing and thinking about her, I felt it better if NaNa had her own thread.

Somebody tell me how the hell did this person get such a massive following? Make no mistake--I used the word 'massive' on purpose. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3ROsVTKVDw

Image if Bitcoin had her following. I do, however, envision a Memory Dealers's ad on her dress(?), for she's as large as a billboard.

Quote
NaNa: Hello, YouTubers. Before I sing a new song today, I wish to shootout to a few of my new followers and bring attention to my first sponsor--Meze Grill--who kindly provided me this new dress, adding to my already gorgeous wardrobe. The rap song I'll be singing is...

Call me fucking nuts, but she's averaging 1M views per song. Did I mention she can't sing? Did I mention her other talents? That's right! Can't and none are the correct answers.

This person has all the makings of being the first Bitcoin superstar. NOT TONGUE-IN-CHEEK!!! Think underdog here, and you should be able to see the whole picture.

We don't need a Danica Patrick type to represent Bitcoin. We need a NaNa!

You're all a bunch of haters. You're just jealous on her huge... following. You'll never get this amount of attention, not even in your wildest dreams. So stop criticizing and do it better than her if you have the balls.

That's right, I didn't think so.

The people posting about her appearance are just as bad as the ones supporting her. She can't sing and that's why she deserves a thumbs down, not other reason.

If the video said "I am beautiful", then it would be a different story.

Judging singers on looks is a pet peve of mine. Korean pop stars aren't singers, they're makeup-laden plastic models who do a bit of dancing while pantomiming and it kills me that society accepts them as "talent".

I don't want to live in this world anymore.

Atlas, show me how to kill myself.

She has responded to all the haters and she's cool with it. That's what make her so special. Her huge following is based on not having any talent. Think outside the box for a second, putting Bitcoin aside. If you, the reader, were a CEO of a major (or minor) brand, you couldn't get an XXXXX tee to her fast enough. Once you give it to her, you're faced with two options upon agreeing to her pay her view fee: outlining the exact terms to her or let her be herself when she's wearing the tee with your logo on it, albeit a hybrid of the two would be the wiser choice.

That said, picture her wearing a tee with a Bit-Pay or Mt Gox (hmmm! mountain) logo on the front and the Bitcoin logo on the back. Now look again at her tattoos. I bet she'll be game on getting another another one or two. Offer to pay for the tattoo that's she's always wanted as long as she gets a Bitcoin tattoo anywhere on her body at the same time. And film the tattooing, performed by two tattoo artist at the same time. Chances are they won't get in each other's way.

Next week, I offer up my idea for Octo-Mom and the renaming of her eight kids.

Full Disclosure: I'm not a marketer. I just play one on BitcoinTalk.

Now, William Hung can't sing either, but look what he did with what he had.  He had a good attitude, most people loved him, and he got to be in the spotlight for a shortwhile.  He was happy and he made others happy.

That's an excellent point, but it has nothing to do with singing. What you're describing is him being a good performer, which I also disagree with, but I think the performance of him and "Chocolate rain" fall in the same self-deprecating popularity areas where the worse your performance is, the more popular you become. There's nothing wrong with it-- it's how Bush was elected, no?

I am speaking as a singer only. If she was asking people on her performance, then I'd say "droll". Doesn't mean I wouldn't be friends with her, or give her a MtGox T-Shirt care of Bruno. I'd just never ask her to sing at a show, and I wouldn't support her and lie to her if she asks for my opinion for example.

You realize you just made fun of overweight people, used the "r" word (liber*****), and put down libertarians in one sentence?  So you approve of using homeless people to promote technology but not overweight people?  Not trying to break you, just keeping my mind busy using the Internets.

I didn't make fun of overweight people. My now dead mother was highly overweight, and she was just fine up until she died of cancer and general poor health.

As for libertards, I am starting to see many good points in libertarianism but libertards are a different breed. Look at Atlas/Boss for an example of a libertard.

I see nothing uncommon about using all those words in a sentence. If he managed to put all those words in ONE WORD, now there's something I'd like to see.

Let's cut to the chase, shall we? NaNa (hmmm!, as in Nakamoto) is currently a blank canvas. A blank canvas viewed by millions of viewers. Now, let's paint that canvas with a Bitcoin Magazine ad and have her sing "I Dreamed A Dream" from Les Miserables.

Images to get you inspired:

I wonder if NaNa planks.

http://bitcoinmedia.com/uploads/2011/12/bitcoin-billboard.jpg
Was just a blank canvas till Roger Ver paid for placement here. I'm sure he didn't just grab the first billboard that was available.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a8/Mailpouch8466.jpg
(prior, was a blank canvas viewed by millions of eyeballs) The Bloch Brothers Tobacco Company (also known as Helme Tobacco Company) of Wheeling, West Virginia, are best known for their Mail Pouch Tobacco.

Formally, a blank convas.

Ok, NaNa replied back to me!  So far it's $150 from me and $100 from Johnathan.  Thx Johnathan!

I told her to do two videos.  For first video I will pay her $100.   If we like it then for the second $150.

For each video we'll pay 50% before and 50% after.

I told her we'll pay her in PayPal :-( or bitcoins.  Hopefully she will take bitcoins.  We'll see what she says.  I'm already thinking of a script:

"Hi, I'm NaNa, the bitcoin girl!  I love you satoshi nakamoto!"

This will no doubt put some nice bucks into her pocket.

At least we're on the same page. But I even have something bigger (no pun intended) planned for her, currently in beta-beta-beta. Wait till you see what I have up my sleeve. Coming Soon! Too bad March 11 already passed and was already taken, therefore I won't give a date, but will announce when I'm at the beta-beta stage. I know what you're thinking--Is Bruno working on some secret project?

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending

My idea centers around her being the official spokesperson for my soon to be created site. Of course, I don't mean the official spokesperson for Bitcoin, thought that's not necessary outside the realm of possibility. What I mean is that I'm not creating a Bitcoin.org type site having her as an official spokesperson, but a site that takes full advantage of Bitcoin, with NaNa as the catalyst, so to speak.

I believe I have the answer--NO SCRIPT!!! Allow NaNa to be NaNa. Simply give her a couple Bitcoin links to get her up to speed, then trust that she'll say and do the right thing. If something comes out not according to plan, so be it. When the naysayers of Bitcoin comment with negatives, she'll defend Bitcoin in her own special way. Imagine watching her go through the Bitcoin learning curve all on YouTube. Imagine in the future when somebody is ask where did they first hear of Bitcoin, they answer, "From NaNa."

That said, my idea is now officially in the beta-beta stage--introduction. A new thread will be started for bitviews.com. Guest who I dearly want to be the official spokesperson for bitviews.com.

Shit just got real!

The complaints about the memetic dynamics here are valid:

The pivot point for a meme (the bullhorn) is usually the pigeonhole its users fall into.
Getting a million eyeballs is shit if:
0. You don't already have general demand for your product
1. Your audience is clueless as to what caused the financial meltdown
2. That it's still ongoing
3. That general demand thing isn't going to change until Bitcoin becomes indispensable (pun intented) with #2 and #3
4. You will never get out of this hole

Homeless people wearing ads works because:
0. People already want wifi
1. Homeless people aren't the pivot point
2. People will always want wifi
3. Wifi is indispensable
4. There is no association of wifi with one group

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm just in this for the laughs, sir.

I have a friend who's a youtube troll, "eric parrey" (look him up) who trolls and is awful. I enjoy watching total failure on youtube, and I think it would be hilarious to see NaNa communicate Bitcoin to a confused crowd of people.

Anyways, Jimbobway - let me know when / if there's a final product and let me know where to send the $$'s to.

Have her cover "Sexy and I know it" by LMFAO with some bitcoin modifications

When I walk in the spot, this is what I see
Everybody stops and they staring at me
I got bitcoin in my wallet and I ain't afraid to show it

I Bitcoin and you know it (x2)

Choose a popular song and tweak it so its about bitcoins, then the lowest common denominator will be able to appreciate it and not just our tiny community.

I have a job for you, jimbobway. Get NaNa to sign up to this forum, and promise her that she'll get whitelisted ASAP (I'm sure that can be easily arranged). Suggest to her to sign up using her real name--NaNa Davis--and to use her actual profile as her avatar. Tell her to not forget to link to all her sources in her bio here.

Also, I just paid my brother-in-law $350 for a killer hand tooled leather purse that we, as a community, will give to her as a welcome gift for joining our community. The purse is finished but does need to have attached to it a hand tooled Bitcoin logo and her full name--her brand. Once she agrees, I'll talk to her about these minor, yet important, design details.

The image below is of the actual purse. As you see, the front won't have the tooling, but the back will, for it offers up a larger canvas. Where ever NaNa goes, people will see her killer purse and know that it came from the Bitcoin community--BitcoinTalk.

Was just watching some of NaNa's videos to get to know her better. Did you know that she took her first steps last month after not being able to walk for almost four years? Either did I. Here's the video of NaNa walking on her new leg for the first time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoCbicGMXcY

Just tell her to put a bitcoin address in the info of her videos so she could get tipped that way cause its cheaper...she'd probly get hacked though. Maybe have her make a mt gox account or something. Also bitcoin hologram sunglasses.

Genius idea, bitcoinbitcoin113!!!+! We'll shower NaNa with Bitcoin related merchandise, presented to her as gifts. Each time she receives a new gift, she posts a video about it, does her shootouts, then signs a song. Now, who wants to be the one to send her a pair of Bitcoin themed holgram sunglasses? (aside: it would be nice if the owner of this site accepted Bitcoin: http://www.hologram-sunglasses.com/)

Gift suggestions:

  • Bitcoin Hologram Sunglasses
  • Bitcoin Magazine Subscription (one month at a time paid for my different users/gift givers each month)
  • BitBrew Coffee sample
  • A ฿1 Coin from Casascius
  • Pair of Alpaca Socks
  • A Bitcoin Ring (http://www.shapeways.com/model/278213/bitcoin-ring-2nd-edition.html/?material=54)

Last, but not least, a shirt with "I am NOT Satoshi Nakamoto" on it, similar to the one below.

Of course, I don't mean the official spokesperson for Bitcoin, thought that's not necessary outside the realm of possibility.

That is outside the realm of possibility. There is no "official" bitcoin anything.  It is all open sourced and decentralized.

You are correct, RaggedMonk. Therefore, I'll have her as the official spokesperson for Bit Views at bitviews.com (currently in development). She'll be my Danica Patrick of Godaddy.

Indeed I realized just after posting that you might actually be serious.  Well, why not.  I say go for it.

But, you can not promote someone as a "spokerperson" only on his/her look.  At most, she can be sponsored so that she makes some advertisment, but in no way she could be described as a "spokerperson".

I beg to differ, for that's my intent--to have NaNa as the main spokesperson for bitviews.com. BitViews will be similar to Hitviews (http://www.hitviews.com) but with a myriad of differences, coupled with paying out in bitcoins weekly with no minimum requirements. My goal is that when the smoke clears, NaNa will have more Bitcoin related videos posted than anybody else, thus becoming a de facto spokesperson for Bitcoin.

When you want something promoted, you pick people who are notable to promote it.

Not necessarily.  Some people are famous for being famous.  For instace, Paris Hilton and her notability is highly arguable.  I argue that there is no difference on using Paris Hilton or NaNa to promote something simply because they are famous.

Unless a new startup thinks outside the box and opts for a currently non-notable as their spokesperson. I predict that some time in the future, NaNa will grace the cover of Bitcoin Magazine.

Let's break this down:

Celebrity != Notability

Please don't bother arguing that people who are popular for the wrong reasons are appropriate to spread Bitcoin. Do not deceive yourself that an easy target is a good target.

While we're at it, can we get some child molesters (popular ones!) and famous psycho killers to wear Bitcoin shirts please? (Since obviously popularity is all that matters in a representative)

There has been discussion of an animal mascot in the past. So now it is going to be a human-horse chimera?

a BitCoin mascot? Could be as simple as the "B" coin with arms and legs? Lets see what you come up with.

The result of this thread was "decentralized" mascots.

Personally I think someone should make an alpalca head mask. I have no idea how to do this.

It is like bitcoin has so little going for it that we have to come up with craaazy schemes and campaigns to get people interested in it.
It will no doubt only cause people to think it is the latest snakeoil fad that the marketers have come up with to fleece the masses.

I would assume it would not even receive the dignity of considering it an idea of "marketers", and will probably just get comments for her youtube videos to the tune of "Oh look, the whale is not just bad at singing, but she's a scammer too. Do you also believe reptiles in congress, dipshit?".

And on the flipside, there will be a nod in this direction on numerous detractor forums about how we are so desperate in our failing fake scam ponzi currency and horrible at business--- and if we supported this bullshit, they'd be right.

Fair enough.  But suppose she was willing to do it for herself to make money or get more attention?  So, I'm not going to force her to do anything.  I'm just going to ask her.  It will be on her own freewill if she decides to do it or not.

Just like "Chocolate Rain" is not a popular song because it's catchy, unique, well written, and soothes the ears.

Ok, I understand.  Although, I thought Chocolate Rain was a success.  Dr. Pepper used the singer of Chocolate Rain in their commercials.

Depends on your definition of success. Atlas is a success, if he is a stand up comedian pretending to be a retard. Otherwise, he's a huge failure.

Chocolate Rain was a ridiculous non-song with interesting elements that got people to watch the video, but it is only good for laugh value. Where is the singer of Chocolate Rain now? On his way to a record deal? Nope. He was a short term joke that a beverage company capitalized on (btw when I say that, I mean they basically made money off of the humiliation of him).

We don't want to be associated with that kind of stuff.

First off, I'm truly serious in having her as the spokesperson for bitviews.com of which I own. I registered it the other day and can be verified by doing a Whosis search.

Now, I'm having a problem understanding why I can't use NaNa as a spokesperson for a company I own, one of which will use bitcoins as its sole payment to the site's users. Please enlighten me.

Due to the sentiment(s) expressed, I have taken the liberty to slightly change the title of this thread.

Obviously it's irrelevant if it's related to your private business. Thread title was "Our Bitcoin spokesperson". If people wouldn't want Bruce Wagner as the spokesperson..

Now that it's been clarified that's a private endeavor unrelated to the forums, our opinions, butcoin community, etc, there is nothing to say. ^^
