For those who haven't noticed: Cryptopia is hard at work getting the exchange back online.

https://twitter.com/Cryptopia_NZ

well FWIW, you can log in and see your balance now.
whoopty doo!
Looks like my 4 cents worth of shitcoins (and Helium) are safe and sound...PHEW!!
Good thing I don't need to withdraw them at this point in time.... or ever, for that matter....

lol

Literally the day after Cryptopia went into maintenance after the hack there was a host of self proclaimed blockchain sleuths and angry mobs calling poor security practice or an exit scam. Some isolated groups of mongrels even went as far as to call for legal action (spamming NZ public offices with poorly written emails) even as Cryptopia's offices were locked down under investigation. NZ authorities, meanwhile, called in their national Cybercrime unit and made weekly press statements as to what was going on.

With the authorities having evacuated the premises Cryptopia made a start with clearing up the mess. If we are to believe the press at least 16 million USD was stolen. 16 million USD is a big, walloping, boat load of money.

Cryptopia is now going through the process of getting their exchange back online. This will be a while.

I just found out that Helium already on amsterdex is very good,

maybe they will be more strict in handling if it happens on hacking

Cryptopia encountering a problem was always a possibility hence Helium listed on Crypto Bridge and Crex24 as well from the very beginning. With Amsterdex added recently that makes 3 exchanges currently live (Amsterdex re-opening trade soon). You can find the markets here:

- Crex24: https://crex24.com/exchange/HLM-BTC
- Crypto Bridge: https://wallet.crypto-bridge.org/market/BRIDGE.HLM_BRIDGE.BTC
- Amsterdex: https://amsterdex.com/exchange?market=hlm

Amsterdex? You seriosly? Who heard anything about this exchange? As a result no one bid on this DEX.

New exchanges pop up at a rate of 10 a day because it is easier to make a scam exchange and run with the money than it is to make a scam ICO.

When the community got Helium listed on Amsterdex I wasn't completely convinced as well. I spoke a lot with the people behind Amsterdex though and they seem serious and competent. Hence we post it as a considerable option.

There was nothing in that update that would have 'fixed' this so I think it is by merit of you restarting the wallet. When staking this is a good thing to do once every now and then.
Good to hear its fixed! Resyncing the wallet would get rid of the orphan tx but that is a bit like going after a mosquito with a sledgehammer Smiley
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM on: January 21, 2019, 11:03:06 PM
so cryptopia was fucked up, this mean that our helium are lost? any news about this?
Also interesting. So many days have passed and no comments on this issue.
Apparently with the HLM all right, if so.

Apparently, the hackers have stolen between 9 and 13 million dollars, but this hasn't been confirmed yet and we have been almost 5 days without an update by the police. As we have said before, we have checked the network and no suspicious transactions of that day have been detected and therefore we believe that Helium hasn't been directly affected. Now we have to wait for the police to do their job.
This is terrible, especially for the creators of this exchanger. A blow to the reputation.
I wonder if the Helium team will review the listing issue to another location after these events. It seems that it is worth thinking about it.

There is always a possibility for an exchange to be hacked, therefor we listed at crex24 and Crypto Bridge as well at launch. Recently Amsterdex was added. Links:

- Crex24: https://crex24.com/exchange/HLM-BTC
- Crypto Bridge: https://wallet.crypto-bridge.org/market/BRIDGE.HLM_BRIDGE.BTC
- Amsterdex: https://amsterdex.com/exchange?market=hlm

Is there a way to turn off the notifications that tell me when I mine 2.5 HLM?

adding the line disablesystemnotifications=1 to your helium.conf file should do that

We were just made aware that Cryptopia has suffered a hack. Please do not make any deposits there for the time being.

By merit of one of our community members Helium has been added to Amsterdex https://amsterdex.com/exchange?market=hlm
I made contact with their team and we will be able to notify them of wallet updates. But as always: trade at your own caution.

Yeah, I have still waited for your announcement on this one, especially in the year of 2019.
Now, it's time for your family after one year of hard working.
There are no open bounty programs at this time. When a new one has begun it will certainly be posted here in this thread.
I think we need to promote the project more on the Internet, we need more fame.
You know, yes. Perhaps, can agree with you. I also have a feeling that this project lacks marketing. I hope that the team understands this, and when the market goes up, they will take action in this direction.

For as far as I can see the team is fully aware of this. The 'lack' of marketing at the moment is a conscious choice. The team is busy on a daily basis setting in motion a sustainable development path that will get us where we want to be. Before getting expectations up the team wants to be certain that these can be met. Most of the work in that regard happens outside of the online channels such as the forums or the discord so things might seem very quiet at the moment. Having said that. On behalf of the Helium team and community: Happy New Year!

Community Update 11th December 2018 @everyone

I am aware that I have been very quiet of late, and that there was a need to provide a detailed update of what I have been working on.

The following document has been created to provide an explanation to the community of the process that I am working to, and also give the opportunity to the community to challenge it and suggest improvements if necessary.

As we progress to each new phase of the Helium System Development Lifecyle, I will provide a new version of this document providing further detail on the new phase. My hope is that this will provide the community with an insight into some of the things that need to be achieved away from the public forum.

This release of the document focuses mostly on requirements gathering which is my main occupier right now.

Please do bombard me with questions or concerns.  Naming conventions for system lifecycle processes and outputs vary by region, industry and individual preferences and I am always open to suggestions or improvements. I appreciate that this document mixes objectives in that I am providing a update as well as a definition.  Now that I have revealed my method and caught you up with my work, the next versions of the document will be much more focussed.

The document is up for review here:

@everyone

Update 8th December 2018

On a personal note, I'd like to apologise for the lack of updates from myself over the last 2.5 weeks. As I'm sure some of you have noticed, the bear market we are in has heaped a lot of pressure on people who work in crypto leading to very quiet communities across the board.  The key to surviving a bear market is to survive.  To survive, a project must make considered decisions, partner with the right people and plan for a long-term future.  This is precisely what we are doing with Helium. For some of the people on the periphery of Helium, this is their first bear market and those people/organisations have needed a week or two to get over the shock and focus back on the long term.

Voting GUI

I'm delighted to announce that a new wallet pre-release has been created.  Version v.0.16.0 contains a GUI for voting on proposals, which takes away all of the technical requirements to vote on a proposal Teela will providing an update on the governance system including details on the testing process for the new pre-release.

Business & Technical Development

One of the challenges of working with a variety of partners to design a system, is to find a consistent way to build a relationship, gather information and establish functional requirements.  Without uniform processes, you have to resort to design by committee which rarely achieves elegant solutions.

Over the past three weeks, I have been working on a suite of templates and processes to allow us a level of consistency in our information and requirement gathering.  Separate but alongside this, there is also a requirement for a simple process leading to an agreement with potential partners around public announcements of the collaboration with a view to joint marketing and PR.

I'm happy to say that the first significant chunk of the processes and templates is now complete.  All documentation from the initial partner interviews through to the technical design document is ready.  The process to populate these documents has been drafted, and I plan to publish a two-page summary of the approach that I am using next week. As each document is populated and approved by the participating parties, they will be made available to the community.  They will only be redacted if there is sensitive commercial information within that cannot be made public.

I will publish the summary of the information gathering process on Monday, as I am going to be travelling this weekend. I also hope to be sharing some information about the first stage of partner interviews which have already begun. I'll be online tomorrow to answer any questions.

Thanks, as always, for your support.

You can find the new wallet release here: https://github.com/heliumchain/helium/releases/tag/v0.16.0

This is not a mandatory update. However, both the voting GUI and staking fix are very convenient for QT users.
You can either update your masternodes or keep them running on the previous version.

Regarding governance:

Block 126720 is the cut off block for this month's round of governance budget. The cut off block will arrive in a little less than 4 days and any votes should be cast before that time. Any new proposals for this round should be made 1440 blocks before the cut off, at block ~126720 or earlier. Which is in a little less than 3 days.

Since this month's budget is not yet filled (total budget is 15552 HLM) I urge any of you who has a good idea to just wager that 50HLM and put it forward. You can use cryptotron's proposal as an example of what it should look like in terms of presentation: https://heliumcha.in/t/heliumstats-continuous-site-and-discord-bot-development/127

There are precise instructions on how to create and vote on a proposal here:

https://www.heliumlabs.org/docs/how-to-create-a-budget-proposal

https://www.heliumlabs.org/docs/how-to-vote-for-a-budget-proposal

In addition, there is a proposal explorer online at http://www.heliumstats.online/governance/ .If you click the 'vote links' button it will give you exactly what to paste into your wallet console.

Given the aim for decentralisation I personally don't really mind the outcome Smiley. I would just like to remind everyone that you can either vote Yes, No or Abstain. So as long as you open up that console window and cast a vote I am happy.

I had some message about claiming helium bounty if you were part of the sig campaign.
Where is the bounty thread or were you just meant to reply with a helium address to that PM?

Just reply to the PM with a HLM address. You can check craslovell's posts to see how its going to work.

easiest would be for you to join one of the community channels and ask there. There are plenty of people that can help you resolve the issues. Links are in the new thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5056752
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HLM] HELIUM on: December 04, 2018, 01:40:24 PM
I was told to give my address to user craslovell who contacted me about my bounty pay. I thought you guys had forgot to be honest. I just wrote it off.
I don't see any links to the wallet? I was asked to send just my wallet address and nothing else in my reply so I can't ask. Am I maybe blind or something because I have looked on the site on the Ann and a googled it.

The wallets are on the github: https://github.com/heliumchain/helium/releases. We decided to make a new ann that has the links to the wallets. Its here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5056752

I'll have a look at the website and make the link to the wallets more clear. Thank you Smiley
