I say we auction the 1000 btc gold starting at 0, no reserve or any of that nonsense.

Please update from PST to EST as well.

Edit to add: In thinking, perhaps just auction them all.

Didn't even need a replacement hologram as they replaced the same one.

7  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] Silver/Gilt 1 BTC Casascius Coin from 2013 on: March 15, 2024, 12:55:34 AM
Confirming the transaction has completed and the coin was sold to Aria42 for 1.35btc.

Thanks to minerjones for brokering this deal. For posterity, the offers on this coin ranged from 1.15 at the lowest to 1.52 at the highest. Offers that were higher than the sell price obviously did not pan out and I attribute that to the recent run up in BTC/USD while this coin was on offer. Thanks to everyone for their interest.

Thanks for the excellent data point and congratulations to both you and the new owner.  Lovely coin.
8  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Question of Casascius Value (this perticular coin) on: March 08, 2024, 02:57:15 PM
Ordered some. Any opinions on value of it with the flaw?

Need better photos of both sides of the coin.
9  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Question of Casascius Value (this perticular coin) on: March 07, 2024, 09:07:36 PM
Yes the one in the Square. One in the circle is not there, only in the.
picture. Its sealed in that plastic i do not have anything else to put it in probably be a bad idea to remove it. Its perfect besides the ding.

The soft plastic flips as shown are PVC which is not ideal for the coin.  The stiff plastic flips are mylar which are far better and even better is an airtite capsule.

If I had a dollar for every time a user accused me of running a Ponzi Scheme only to have it discovered that they are running a Ponzi Scheme… I truly feel sorry for those who got caught up in this mess and won’t hold my breath for an apology from any of you. Some people just can’t be trusted to hold money for others. Now you know.

It's comments such as this that remind me how much I miss Zepher [RIP]

Viz

Ahhh yes.  I remember the Slack scam where someone pretended to be Bobby Lee and scammed 20+ BTC from a user there and then was so generous with their supporters until they overdosed.  Class act.

This is about Bitcoin Penny running a Ponzi though...  I really don't think we need to start investigating and shining a light on the wrongdoing of people who are no longer here.

EDIT: Funny that your post is merited by the guy who ran the friends of satoshi scam...

Making baseless accusations at someone who cannot defend themselves as they passed away.  You truly are a despicable piece of shit.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

I don't see a link on scarce.city to this new site, am I missing it?
12  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [WTS] The Times 2009.01.03 newspaper - very rare - authentic - certified on: January 17, 2024, 11:06:35 PM
That's actually a reasonable price.  Best of luck, would also love to see photos.
13  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Looking to Buy a 1btc Funded Casascius Coin - Cash Only on: January 16, 2024, 11:48:04 AM
Hopefully anyone who arranges to meet in person with a $50,000 token follows the necessary steps not to get robbed.

Meeting at a police station is never a bad idea.

with 50k+ in cash it probably is a bad idea.  Exposure to civil asset forfeiture/having to explain the source of the cash.

I would do a transaction such as this in my bankers office and the cash would be counted and deposited to my account immediately by the banker.  The casascius would then get handed to the buyer.  You still have the issue of a potential suspicious activity report from your bank and you will have to report the 70k as capital gains on your tax return.  For that reason, and the possibility you are accepting stolen funds, I would expect the premium on a transaction like this to be 30% or so.

14  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Titan Mint Coins- Serious Issue- Titan Mint Bitcoin Coins ***NEW UPDATES*** on: January 07, 2024, 04:05:48 PM
Todamont, you have absolutely ruined this important thread by making yourself the focal point.

imo this entire issue is because you cannot live with your own decision not to take Tim's btc when offered.

17  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [QUESTION] - Redeemed Casascius that looks unpeeled? on: December 18, 2023, 07:19:28 PM
Just a reminder that Casascius coins were cracked back in 2013 with a method to remove the private key without compromising the integrity of the hologram.  Always make sure that you're buying your coins from someone reputable and if possible with a chain of ownership to avoid becoming a victim of this now decade old scam.

https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2013/08/13/defcon-hackers-crack-physical-bitcoin-casascius-coins/

It is important to remember that tamper-proof holograms are like door locks, they keep honest people honest.  Criminals can still get around them.  Make sure you know who you're buying from.  Never participate in auctions unless you have this information.

Holy shit .. WTF  Shocked

It's impossible to see through things like this especially when you buy online.  The only way is to buy from someone who was either the first buyer or someone with a chain of ownership.

I don't want to know how many manipulated coin are in circulation or how many readed private keys are waiting to be bought to redeem them directly

If you check the coin's public address it will be obvious it was redeemed.

I suppose there is the risk a seller removes the key, sells it, and then redeems.  That would suck.

This should be in the Reputation section which is more equipped to deal with such nonsense.

OP, you sound pretty unhinged, maybe take a time out and collect your thoughts a little better.
