1  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: June 27, 2017, 09:09:03 AM
If we end up with one Bip148 chain and one Bitmain chain, then I would prefer to mine on the Bip148 chain. Bitmain is planning their own hardfork if bip148 goes into effect, so this could happen.

But it depends on whether both survive. Which one will be called bitcoin? Which one will merchants accept?

That's all I want to hear  Wink thanks DrHaribo  ( In case of low hashrate on the Bip148 chain I'll be ready to increase X4 my little hashpower Grin )
2  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Bitminter bitcoin mining pool - Pays TxFees, Merged Mining, Fair PPLNS rewards on: June 26, 2017, 10:01:46 AM
Hi DrHaribo, mined here by the times Grin and hope to continue to do so  Wink
I must admit I haven't a clear view about hard/soft fork cases, the only thing that gave me some true info was a comparison made by Dr.Luke about segwit on Core VS segwit 2Mb.
I completly agree with bitminter on segwit vote, but what will bitminter do in case of hard/soft fork Huh On what chain we will mine Huh  Roll Eyes
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anyone from ITALY want to comment on BTC and bad banks? on: November 28, 2016, 08:43:01 PM
...

Over the past few days I have been reading about really know what's going re various Italian banks (up to eight of them) being in big trouble, and that a referendum coming up re Renzi might affect them.

I don't really know what's going on (on vacation), but it sounds perilous, even for German banks.  Which would affect everybody as Deutsche Bank is so important because it is so big.

Yet I have seen no reaction in BTC price.

Would anyone from Italy care to comment on:

1) How serious is this Italian bank problem and the consequences of the upcoming vote?

2) I see that Bitcoin price has not gone anywhere since we went on vacation.  Is BTC catching on in Italy?

Molto Grazie!

I try to answer briefly

1) Italian bank problem is serius, MPS is now try trying to convert LT2 bonds to cover an IPO ( commanded by BCE) estimated between 5 an 6 Bln (so you can understand that this bank is no so small). If this maneuver will fail, probably bail-in rule will be applied. Bail-in will drag money from deposits over 100k, stocks, uncovered bonds. Funny thing is that the "warranty fund" for deposits under 100K exist only virtually.
Upcoming vote has been relied on banks problems on newspaper only 1 day ago, this is because the vote is (not only) about senate's election and composition ( now is democratically elected and every people over 40 can be elected, if yes wins, regional councils will have the power to choose it from mayors that composed it, which, in my eyes is an auto-election from an elitè ) so bank-vote is not very related ( only relation I can see is that if governament sability will be missed (vote NO option selected), there won't be enough time to handle such emergencies ).

2) Italy has large old aged population (devoted to family's savings, or what remains, which rapresent about 60% of overall public debt ) with ultra high unemployment rate for people aged under 24 (40%).
BTC is catching but at low rate. Some independent private bankers are starting to work with it as a solution for the incoming capital destruction (or requisition if there is some sort of slight difference).

4  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: November 25, 2016, 04:39:47 PM
With an estimated stock setting of about 650GH at 75W DC, would folks still buy it?

Absolutley in !! Too much time is passed without low power (& high efficient, reliable) asic on the market. I think that pod will sell as much units as the stick.
Home miners are angry, time to revenge. Grin
5  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: June 13, 2016, 08:47:20 AM
In few days I should recieve the Stick from bitshopper.de.
Idea is to use it in one of the blackarrow X1's usb (eventually undervolted), and I'm not a linux expert.
Cgminer version is 4.4.2 and the task is controlled by bamc (black arrow manager software) under debian, I don't know if is a good idea to upgrade cgminer 'cause the integration with bamc.
Should I simply go to install bfg to control only GekkoSience miner and let cgminer do only present task with the minion Huh

You might look into a Raspberry PI.   Honestly I think it's one of the best way's to control them you have a very low wattage controller for them.  You can make a reliable lotto or fun mining machine for the compac's very easily with a LOT of documentation.  It is what I have used with a powered USB hub.

I'm not sure your going to find the level of documentation for a X1 I personally have not owned one.   As a "not a linux expert." the guides with a RPI I think you will find very helpful to say the least.  And there are a ton of projects you can use a RPI for if you ever stop using it for some reason.   So not a bad thing to have.

Yep, this is plan B, but it won't be easy control X1 with raspberry. That way I'll have 2 controllers and in best case scenario 1 psu.
X1 has its own rockchip integrated controller and a not so bad psu. So assuming I want to run it, unless its 0,75W/Ghs, I got a controller and psu already powered that could handle the super-stick. I'll however first would give a try

I was young (no approach to statistic) , and, one of my first times in casino, I decided to try Martingale betting system using color doubling. All was working well, until I decided to double the minimum play and unluck suddenly hit me with same colour for 14 rounds in row Shocked . Those unrelated events definitively killed all my cash  Cry
That was the first time I lie face to face to the concept you explained.

It's so easy for miners to use difficulty for income's calculations, but luck in BTC plays big role too and it's usually understimated when calculations are made.
I'm not sure that big mining operations think about the luck/unluck, but as margins are eroded the weight of variance increase.

For the long time there is nothing to worry about Cool; we are mining on a super optimized, honest project, and this is what make the difference  Grin!!!

Good work Kano !

11  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 06, 2014, 02:54:01 PM

Absolute humidity will almost always be higher at 30C than 0C, though relative humidity can vary and that is what would cause an issue for condensation. If it's really muggy you might be worried about that, but mining equipment will almost always be hotter than the surrounding air you shouldn't have many condensation issues unless the conditions are extreme.

Not saying you couldn't put them in a place where you could run into issues, but if your gear has a low enough ΔT that it is able to run in a comfortable range with 30C (or even higher) ambient the benefits of the colder climate wouldn't come close to outweighing paying 67% more in electricity costs.

'Almost' isn't enough if you'r running with no assurance. 30min of power loss and bad conditions could be met. It's very rare example, of course, but I'll not skip this with so many money invested. My cents  Wink
12  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: November 06, 2014, 01:59:23 PM
why the fuck would you make a DC in bangkok! where is 28 degrees Centigrade at 9AM, right now!!! WHY!!!
...

Miners don't particularly mind hot ambient, and because you're not running AC neither do you particularly. Instead of replacing the air with an infinite amount of 20C air, you're replacing it with an infinite amount of 30C air.

I'll drive constantly at 200miles/hour just because my car can do that! I dont give a fuck about road conditions or tires...

better 10cents/kw in a 0C temperature climate than in that location with +30C temperature and 6cents/kw!
Based on what? If you're able to bring enough 30C air in to feed the units and keep them cool, there's no real need for the 0C air. Yes you could run the fans a little slower and save a bit on your cooling costs, but you're talking maybe a percent on of your budget. Nowhere near enough to justify 10c vs 6c.

Teal, you'r forgetting that 30°C air is a lot wetter than 0°C, expecially in some places. You can't cool down 5MW of electronic HW with 30°C air  without think about humidity.
Also 30A are enough for a bad contact to burn a wire, and a fan that blows air direct only helps fire to catch on. That is why in industial plants (not btc related) A/C , thermography, proper electrical distribution and extinguish systems are used.
If it's true that this farm was using 5MW, the lowvoltage threephase distribution system should have handled about 8000-9000 Amps , no peanuts.
13  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: my new diff thread covers Oct 23 to nov 5? +0.033% to +1.16% ? on: November 04, 2014, 07:27:38 PM

One of my points  described exactly as I think the big companies should look at.

Or here is another way Sep 25 , 2014 Diff = 34,661   Nov 4 , 2014 Diff = 39,500  that is after this evening's jump   this will be 3 jumps over 40 days with the avg of

about 4.5%.

Those numbers will make them rich with less risk. They will also allow the business to last longer.

So the best interests for the big companies is less then 5% growth.

My assumptions are simple   :

1) btc price is at the 300-350 usd level.
2) growth needs to be under 5%

5% grow would sure be healthier than 10% for bitcoin, but as I don't care big companies's interests (and I'll do every little thing against them), I don't think a single company bother any other's interests. They simply can't make a cartel, so the only way left is to fight each other, and this is what they'r doing now.
I think HW sell volume will soon drop, and at that time the next show will start Grin
14  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: my new diff thread covers Oct 23 to nov 5? +0.033% to +1.16% ? on: November 04, 2014, 01:54:12 PM
Just here to remind 1 sure thing......people that won in the past are those who mined in moderate way - near at loss and not who spread terahashes only when $/BTC rose.
Mining isn't done to be always a sure gain, and depending on price fluctuations (f.ex. 50-100$/btc) , expecting a scenario where big farms could be forced to slow down, is not so crazy. Of course small miners will be in same (or worste) situation, but I remind you that operative costs are much more sustainable for them than the farms.
Farms are taking a high risk, very difficult to estimate.
15  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [666 TH] CKPool (www.kano.is) from the cgminer devs [0.9% PPLNS] on: November 01, 2014, 06:05:22 PM
Would be nice to have - min payout setting ( obviously must be higher than pool min payout  Grin), near dust transactions are disliked by small mines too Tongue
Mined with address for little time, then registered and I continued to use that address. Don't know if addiction of the founds is automated, keep an eye at the next block!

Cheers, great work  Wink
16  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Hash rate declining slightly in recent weeks. on: September 30, 2014, 09:39:04 AM
more mining--->more sell pressure on btc---->>more difficulty--->more electricity cost----->no Return of Invest----> and shut down with negative profit ----> sell miners HW under pruduction's (or buy) cost ---> underinvested miners win and worst ( assume this word widely ) HW producers and big farms lost

cicle will repeat when people will (and they will) buy equipement for double (or more) the production's cost, probably because the next price's bubble

the cicle won't repeat when speculators understand that high ROI in bitcoin world is allowed only for very shot timeframe and at a huge risk.

However I don't think the time for true difficulty drop is now  Wink
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 21, 2014, 11:51:38 AM
X1 doesn't have hardware voltage control like X3, and they also don't display Watts  and Volts on their web interface (or LCD).
There is some limited software voltage control through SSH, but only allowing you to step down the voltage, not increase it.

Good, that's what I want !!! If I will tune parameters I'll let you know !!  Smiley
18  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 21, 2014, 09:29:16 AM
In other news, I've finally received shipping confirmation of direct-from-BA order #8xx (paid mid-November) which is an X1.

Me too !!!
I hope to have voltage control implemented, anyone have some news about this Huh
19  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Black Arrow 28nm 100Ghash Bitcoin ASIC from $0.49/GH/s on: August 13, 2014, 08:11:43 AM
I think they may have stopped shipping altogether. Anyone get any recently direct from BA?

BA, how about an update on shipping?

They're too busy assembling the 50 miners that will ship this week to give us updates.

One assembler has gone hill due to 24h/24h overwork. The last one is now working 48h/24h and he will be able to complete all units by the end of next week ™
If anyone thinks to be able to replace 1st assembler, please write us.
20  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: GUIDE SETTING UP A SOLAR POWER SYSTEM on: August 09, 2014, 02:37:07 PM
Don't know where I read someone with similar cfg, but for those who are interested, here is my experimental cfg.
Solar panel 12V 40W ( more than 10 years old, not optimal orientation = real only 30W ).
Jally, undervolted from 1,02V to 0,95, stock clock & software, hashing @ 5 Gh/s (0,2% error rate Cool) (sometimes, cause the low voltage, it stasts @ 4,2 / 4,3, expecially when powered by stock PSU when there is not sun. In this case power cycling is useful to regain 5 Gh/s ). It draws little more than 2A @ 12V, efficiency little better than 5W/Ghs.
No battery and power regulator. Panel and original psu are coupled by a series of shottky diodes (I loose near a watt here). When the sun shines, voltages from panel is higher so it has the priority ( in this case voltage in main power line of the jally goes near 14V ) , when there is no sun, PSU kicks in keeping voltage near 12,5V.

PRO. All solar production in adsorbed by the system so no battery is required (mainenatance free). Good battery has 90% efficiency so all this is a another good gain. Jally runs smoother when panel is active, probably cause higher input voltage and infinite better voltage stability ( stock PSU is really really bad..........ssshhh, I should not tell this cause it is not exploded yet  Grin Grin).

CON. When Jally is in idle (current drops from 2A to near 1A), there are no voltage regulation, so voltages soar to 16V, wich is not really good because if I remember well caps are 12V rated. All other electronics should run fine.
When there is no sun, I loose near a watt on the diodes, and when there is sun the PSU loose near 2 watt in idle.

Coming soon a more powerful hashing system with similar philosophy. I'm looking at something like this  http://www.mini-box.com/DCDC-USB-200?sc=8&category=981 cause the voltage programmable capability and ultra wide input voltage ( every little watt from solar will be saved  Grin Grin )
