Getting rid of cash is the most stupid thing a country could do. It makes your whole economic infrastructure dependent on the power grid AND network infrastructure. For both you can't guarantee 100% uptime. Cryptos complement cash, not replace it.

All this discussion by central banks is focusing on how to upgrade the existing system to compete against bitcoin but not how to work with bitcoin to make a better system

It's like they have shut out the possibility of using bitcoin/ auroracoin to their advantage from the start.

Based on the statements from the central bank of iceland it looks like they will completely ignore the possibilities of using auroracoin as a asset to back the krona.

When it comes to influence why not create a protest movement that demands the cB buys auroracoin

Hi adamastor,

Your comments have been more insightful lately then in the past. My compliments for that. We had some internal discussion regarding this CB meeting. This also shows that the foundation is positioning themselves as an authority on crypto/blockchain tech. I think this is a good development. It also shows the CB is a bit clueless on what can be done and what should be not (hence my previous comment). Even if the CB releases their own "i-krona" blockchain, they have the same trust record regarding ISK in terms of financial stability (which is poor and is the reason why AUR exists in the first place).

For now I don't see the CB people as the bad guys and I consider all options open. Mind that these are just initial talks.

Though it's good that the interest and discussion about cryptocurrencies is getting stronger here in Iceland adamastor is on the right track here. They are not about to try and implement a decentralised, fixed cap cryptocurrency here (which in my opinion is the only two factors that make Bitcoin and derived coins unique as an electronic currency). What they would do is to strip those factors out so for one they could centrally control it, at least it would not come to a community consensus when faced with changes. They would always make sure that they would be able to enforce their will and secondly they are scared of the idea of a fixed cap currency. Their ideas involve a fixed, predetermined and permanent (till they feel otherwise) inflation into the currency.

IMHO these changes to a cryptocurrency break the very concept of Bitcoin. These two factors I mentioned of fixed money supply and a decentralisation where the community leads the way are an essential to our cause. Yes I called it a cause as to me that is what Auroracoin is. It's our opportunity, the oppressed to take control out of the hands of the oppressors (dramatic words I know but to me it's accurate) and we should not accept a solution from the guardians of this system we have in place now that is designed to keep us slaves of dept, where the only advantage we have is stripped out and we are left with the same arrangement we have now, only with a blockchain to run it.

I do not consider the Central Bank to be an enemy, it's just a institute full of people that are themselves (mostly) slaves of dept but they are working for this institute that was set up to guard the system we want removed. So in reality for the CB to accept cryptocurrencies in their natural form would be like for them to accept that their own existence is needless. Of course there would always be institutes to try to regulate and stabilise the currency and economy but it would not operate in the form a CB does today. I do applaud that they are looking more into cryptocurrencies and I think it will be beneficial to us in the end.  Smiley

Yeah, I hope they will continue to get proper following. They are getting so much following now because people want to vote for change and the Pirate Party is the only party that is aiming to change how things are done not just how they would do things differently within the same old system.

My mother was talking to me about our corrupt monetary system. I told her about Auroracoin. Now she want's % of my rent that I pay her in Aur Smiley

I have a question which I hope someone can answer: can owners of Auroracoin take legal action against other parties just like a company would sue another party?

I'm not sure I understand the question.

By owners do you mean users who have acquired and hold some Auroracoins?

And what kind of legal actions are you talking about and in what case?

Early Auroracoin price spike was not pump and dump. It was supply and demand. Baldur was the first to do the airdrop distribution method, which seemed like a genius solution to achieving critical mass.

The supply of Auroracoin was severely restricted at the very beginning, and lots of people wanted a piece of the action. Once Airdrop #1 happened coin supply exploded and price dropped accordingly.

I was watching from the beginning, and agree with what Bimmerhead says in regard to AUR, but will include that I believe the "newness" wore off too.

Actually the price had fallen from 0.14149900 where it peaked down to 0.01996670 before the airdrop even started. So clearly increased coin supply is just part of the story.

I am interested in Auroracoin but often heard of it as being a scam.

Why do people say Auroracoin is/was a scam? As it has been a free airdrop among all of Iceland's citizens, I cannot see how this could be a scam?

There was tremendous pump at dump at the very beginning.
Lot of butthurts yelling scam. I call it free market.
This coin is legit project, especially now under new team.

Yes I would say that is the main foundation of the scam yelling along with the creator's anonymity.

This pump and dump had nothing to do with the developers at the time. There were just some unrealistic expectations that there would just be a bang and all of a sudden Auroracoin would be instantly adopted in Iceland. This of course could or would never happen as this takes hard dedicated work for a long period of time. The bank crash in 2008, capital controls and the airdrop are just factors to give Auroracoin a good head start. So I guess a lot of people got burned in the initial hype and the fact that the creator was/is anonymous and initially had control over 50% of the total coin supply that was premined was just a breeding ground for scam accusations. I myself was worried that something might surface that would prove these accusations correct but it never did and I would never had started to dedicate myself to this project, put my name and face behind it if there was anything that would have indicated that this project was not authentic. I believe that all the other guys who are dedicating themselves on this project with me would say the same.

Thanks to both of you for explaining. Out of all arguments for seeing the early Auroracoin as a scam, I can see how having an anonymous inventor holding 50% of the premine can be dangerous. I thought the initial coin supply was equally being distributed among all citizens that claimed their coins.

Anyhow I agree with you and wish you the best of luck! I think Iceland provides favorable circumstances that can help adopting crypto among the general public.

The premine was being distributed to the Icelandic public. The creator however had to hold the funds while it was being distributed for for a whole year. It was done in 3 phases where in each phase people had a chance to claim. The first phase was quite successful where there were claims for over 35.000 individuals (over 10% of our nation). There was a facebook scam where 700 claims were made by a scammer and of course there is some part where you have some people claiming for whole families and then selling it directly but the bulk of all the claims were authentic. Even if you would say that half of all the claims would be lost you still have a major! distribution within a single nation and not to mention all the publicity that the currency had here.

Iceland is used to pump and dump games with their currency. Back in 2002 our banks took part in the biggest pump and dump in history, paying roulette with the Icelandic krona. Increasing its value by ~50% and then printing up billions of ISK and dumped it and devalued the krona by ~100%.

If Bitcoin can be pumped to to $1.100 and dumped to $165 and then again now to $750, Auroracoin can be pumped also, nothing different here.

You'd probably meant a different value than the ISK dumped and devalued by ~100%, because devaluating like ~100% would mean kinda like the ISK would be worth like 0.00. But that's just minor detail  Smiley

But yeah, your second line pictures it pretty good what I meant. Considering the financial history over the past years, it would be ashamed if the Icelandic inhabitants would hop on way to high during a bullish rally, only to see it plummet deeper than where they jumped on board.

The thing is that a county wide adoption would take many years to happen and during which time all major bag holders would make their dumps gradually during that road getting the coins effectively into the hands of many. You are looking at this like these tiny crypto markets that you are looking at today could possibly be translated into a full scale economy market. It will evolve massively! over time while it's in adoption and will not remotely resemble anything like these tiny crypto markets when fully evolved. Like ny2cafuse just mentioned. ton of "whales" will dump when the price reaches $1 and again at $3 or $5 and $10 and so forth.

Don't forget that this price increase will not be based on speculation like with all of the other cryptocurrencies (including Bitcoin) but from the fact that people will be using the coin so real demand will be increasing the price which will make it more sustainable than any other crypto. If Auroracoin would have reached the goal of having large % of the Icelandic market the price would be in the hundreds of $ and would have taken a long way to get there creating thousands of moments when any large bagholders would have considered the best time to release some or all of their funds.

Any currency that would not be instantly deployed through a nation and sanctioned by a government will have volatility while it's growing, it however would be just as stable as any fiat currency you have today when it has reached a point of being used the majority of all of the nation.

Having said all this I completely get what you are trying to point out and of course we don't want to burn anyone, that is why we will always be clear to people about the dangers of using a cryptocurrency. If people still continue to go down that path knowing the risk the answer is simple. People will then have judged the risk of using a cryptocurrency less than the damage that is currently being imposed upon us by a fiat currency in this fatally flawed monetary system. A system that in every 15-20 year period wipes out over half of all our assets.

In the end of the day the people will make this choice. We will only show them how the current monetary system really is and point out that there exists something that could be a better alternative.

Wait, I can mine this?
How....

Everything you ever wanted to know about mining Auroracoin:

http://auroraspjall.is/viewforum.php?f=11&sid=650a5d5a8b05d22a5cd76346f9bd944f

Thanks for the info. Going to give it all a good read tonight.

Hi,

I downloaded the android files on my Samsung phone.  I extracted the files but I have no idea what to do with all these files now?  I tried Coinomi but Coinomi is giving out invalid addresses that don't work.  Help!

What are you exactly trying to do? The quote is about mining... but you want to use coinomi?

I would like to use an android mobile app for storing Auroracoin.  On the very first page for Auroracoin, it has links like Linux, Windows, IOS, Android, that you can click on to download the wallets.  Well when I click on Android, I have to download a bunch of files to my phone and extract them.  But then all I am left with is a bunch of files on my phone.  I tried Coinomi which is another mobile app that offers an Auroracoin wallet (Beta), but it gives out invalid addresses that do not work so that isn't an option.

Actually the Android link on the auroracoin.is site currently link to the Coinomi wallet so I'm not sure what you are referring to.

Is there anyway to see network hashrate for different algos?

P2Pools like http://crypto.office-on-the.net:12347/static/ have global hashrate estimation.

Hi,

What is the next big thing coming up after the bus campaing?

Just looking forwards to the next surprise Smiley

The primary focus for the team right now is merchant tools.  We're building them from scratch to align with our standards, so it's taking some time.  However, that is the biggest goal for us at this time because it will allow us to really push adoption with merchants and possible partners.

-Fuse

That is a very good idea

Well we are in discussions with some large companies in Iceland that have shown Auroracoin interest. If just any of those we are talking to shows interest it would give us great use cases and a lot of publicity.

We are also preparing for some good media exposure which I can't really talk much about at this time.

We have increased our supporter group a lot here lately and these people are all working on spreading the word and starting to talk to merchants to get them accepting Auroracoin.

So even though we don't post here all the time it doesn't mean that we are not working.  Wink

How can one check the hashrate of particular algorithm?

Hey restless. I'm not completely sure on the matter myself but I think that there isn't a clear way to get this. I think that some show estimates based on the network difficulty like the p2pools. You can see here for example http://crypto.office-on-the.net:12347/static/ .Shows the network hashrate but I think it's just estimated (without knowing for a fact).

Hey guys. I thought I would give you a status update. We have been a bit quiet here lately but that is not because we are idle but because we are just extremely busy.

We had a introduction meeting the other day which was successful. We have had some new registrations to the foundation as a result and two major companies in Iceland have contacted us as a follow up where they are interested in doing some sort of Auroracoin implementation. We will be meeting with them and some other companies that we are going to contact in the next couple of weeks to get some decent Auroracoin use cases out there. We have been meeting and chatting with a lot of people, both Icelandic and foreign that have super interest in Auroracoin and the success of the project.

We have been in contact with some people that want to help us make a book about Auroracoin so that we can tell the story from the launch of Auroracoin, airdrop, price fall, takeover and all the way to date. That will be great to get out and we are very confident in the people that want to do this with us as they are professionals in this field.

We have a new simple merchant tool coming out in the next couple of days I expect and a proper merchant platform to follow in a few weeks.

There are many other things going on but I'm not in a position to disclose them atm. as they are either in beginning stages and I wouldn't want to raise false hopes for something that might not come true or because the other party we are dealing with does not want to disclose things at this point so we have to respect that.

ISX has been running smoothly with minimal problems. Of course there have been some minor issues but they are as said minor and are nothing that affect the trading. The volume of course is low at the moment but that is just as was expected. The main thing is that now we have a platform that can give us a solid price in ISK and that is what we needed to start building on top of. Now when merchants can liquidate their Auroracoins to ISK they will be more willing to start to accept Auroracoin. When enough of them do there will be less and less incentive for them to change their Auroracoins to ISK as they will be able to do business between themselves in AUR which is cheaper than to convert to ISK first.

Well I can continue here for a while but I think this is good for now. If you have any questions please post and we'll do our best to answer.

Just chiming in to say that I am glad to see a moderated thread and agree with Cryptide regarding non-constructive posts.

The professionalism exhibited by the AUR team in my opinion has been exemplary and lends credence to the AUR project.

Thanks for that. It's good to hear people form the community confirming that this was the right course of action.

None of us want to moderate the thread, there just needs to be a place on BCT where the community can discuss the project together. I personally have no objections with people showing doubt and stating that they don't believe in the project and such. But when the same people troll the thread page after page then there is no possibility to discuss the project with the community here in BCT which saddens me as I do greatly respect this community and it deserves a place to discuss these matters in a serious manner.

http://isx.is <- Only for Icelandic market!

Did auroracoin make this website isx.is

I don't speak or understand the icelandic language, so I didn't understand that webpage.
Any plans to have that website translated to english?

Hey 2bacco. ISX was created and run by myself (Pétur Árnason), apcoins (Hermann Finnbjörnsson) and Dinobotta (Hlynur Þór Björnsson). We are all members of the Auroracoin dev team and are all board members of Auraráð which is the Icelandic Auroracoin foundaiton. We created a company called Skiptimynt ehf. to manage the exchange.

The exchange is designed to be only for Icelandic citizens as it requires an Icelandic social ID for registration. This is done so it can be easier for Icelandic citizens to deposit and withdraw their Icelandic Króna from the exchange and as a anti-money laundering measure to establish credibility and trust here in Iceland. So for that reason we do not have the exchange in English but there have been some requests for us to set up an English page so that foreigners can have basic information about the exchange. I personally think that is a very reasonable request but there hasn't been time to discuss that yet so I can't really promise that yet.
