I wonder how someone who doesn't watch porn can say that "pornography is degrading to women" ...how can he even "know" that?
2  Other / Off-topic / Re: Lost spirit... on: August 19, 2011, 09:46:23 PM
So, I've spent every day since then chasing Amy... so to speak.
But make sure you don't become the creepy stalking ex-boyfriend, right? Undecided

Jordoss:

So your "Bitcoin Halving" scam game didn't work out, eh? Grin
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34698.0

Now starting! Bitcoin halving! Found this idea on another post, so I decided to see how it goes.

Rules:
1. No Maximum
2. Minimum 0.02000002 BTC, that way there will always be a profit for me after the transaction fee.
3. Deposits below the minimum (0.02000002 BTC) will be kept as a donation.

Bitcoin Address:
Code:
1EXgzAxVdWVhG1W54ErbrqADdgyArHMPiu

How It Works:
1. You send X amount of BTC (Must be at least 0.02000002 BTC, read the rules).
2. I send X/2 BTC to the address that I received the X amount of BTC from.

What kind of car do you want, btw? Smiley
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coming Very Soon, a real Bitcoin you can hold! (and is worth 1 BTC) on: August 19, 2011, 07:40:41 PM
Call me dumb but i don't get the hologram/private key thing...
If the coin holds the private key, what prevents someone from reading it, sell the coin, and move the BTC away after it's sold? :-/
Can someone explain please?

They would have to destructively tear off the hologram to read the key. These holograms tear in a tamper evident pattern.
D'Oh...now i get it. The hologram is a sticker and covers the private key... i had some sort of hologram directly lasered on the coin's surface in my mind...you know, to make it look pretty Roll Eyes
5  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Augustus, we have a problem! on: August 19, 2011, 06:17:49 PM

Damn, why didn't i buy some coinedbits coins before Angry...... those error coins will sure be worth something somewhen!

Hehe, nice site and idea!

And get rid of the porn. Geeeeezzz.
Please don't.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Got Scammed Twice in 3 Days on: August 19, 2011, 04:24:10 PM
Maybe it would be better if you still share how you got scammed? That would help others be able to pick out the scams more easily.
This thread is old! It's also unclear if he really was scammed or just tried to get someone else in trouble. Look at these two threads:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=35482
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=33455
DiamondPlus states in both threads that he got scammed, but the sellers are not labeled as scammers. It's even said that "DiamondPlus was offering people large sums of money to say that he was an honest trader". In one case both parties never got to the trade (the trade never happend because both parties couldn't agree about the trade conditions) and DiamondPlus started a thread blaming his trade partner as scammer for a trade that never took place.

9  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Porn on: August 19, 2011, 02:35:08 PM
I wonder if it's a coincidence that LH66 started the exact same discussion about "bitcoin porn" on August 16, 2011, 06:02:17 pm:

So these forums are not safe for women, not at all. Women can't come here to be educated without being offended or verbally harassed. For example, there is somebody here who has, as his sig, a site for bitporn. Do the board mods really believe that women want to see that sort of thing?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=32386.msg460171#msg460171

After this, people were responding and disagreed with her. The discussion went on for a view hours...
Coincidently.... the registration date of our captainteemo(male) in this thread here is August 16, 2011, 10:18:10 pm ....a view hours after LH66 started the discussion. And the next day, on August 17. LH66 stopped the discussion:
I do think people understand my views and are willing to acknowledge that they may have some validity. Thank you all for adding to the discussion.

And now he's complaining about the same thing:
Personally, I think pornography is wrong and degrading to women, and I don't like people who support it.

Bitcoin having things like "bitcoin porn" is not going to make it look better in the eyes of the general public.

Reading the comment history from both accounts however shows that they might not be the same person, there are quite obvious differences in writing style...
I think captainteemo has read the conversation in the other thread and is now just fulfilling his nickname(i read "Captain Emo" the first time, sry), trying to be the wight knight or is just trolling.

Conspiracy! ...Thoughts?

Why would anyone tell people they used bitcoin and be branded "that creepy porn buyer"?
Because porn is not the only thing you can buy with Bitcoins? Bitcoin has other purposes too, it's not dedicated to porn. Just like cash isn't dedicated to drugs. You can buy drugs in every city for cash...does that mean to you everyone who uses cash automatically is a drug addict?

Oh, and I also think there is nothing wrong with porn. Smiley
10  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GlobalBitcoinBank.com on: August 19, 2011, 12:50:13 PM
We are building a very secure network using one of the best Chain of Data Centers in the world.
Why should anyone believe this? Your site runs from a free host and you patched-up the site with weebly.com? That doesn't look secure at all.

But most important....why should anyone trust you? Your domain is registered anonymously through a proxy service:
Quote from: WHOIS(GlobalBitcoinBank.com)
Registrant:
Domains by Proxy, Inc.

DomainsByProxy.com
15111 N. Hayden Rd., Ste 160, PMB 353
Scottsdale, Arizona 85260
United States

Currently your site looks like a scam to collect email addresses. :-/
Let's see what launch of the real site will bring up...
11  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: High speed Blockchain Download on: August 19, 2011, 11:09:47 AM
So the regular block chain isn't compressed at all? Why not? Isn't regular RLE pretty trivial to implement these days? Maybe some other reason.
I don't know if the p2p snippet download of the blockchain is compressed on the fly snippet by snippet or not. Even if each snippet is downloaded compressed, you would have an overhead because you would download a huge amount of single compressed snippets and not one huge compressed file.

How is having one http link that much faster than having your client download it?
I mean, what if you connect to specific, trusted nodes with the addnode switch... shouldn't some bitcoin nodes be just as fast to download from as an http link?
For that you would need to know that there is an addnode switch, how to use it and you would need know IPs too add. Besides that, if you download it via http you can download a compressed archive of the blockchain, if you download it through the client you will get the blockchain snippet by snippet (uncompressed, if i'm not wrong). Also if you are behind Router that uses NAT, you might only get ~8 connections in the client which will cause the download to slow down eventually.

Why aint that Link to fastly get the blockchain in the readmy of the client?!
Because it's not part of the Bitcoin project, the http source is provided by a third party. The external download, outside of the client and from a third party source, comes with the risk of downloading a manipulated block chain. That's why it's not mentioned in the official readme (i guess).

Great, I will delete mine and just use yours!
It's not mine, all thanks goes to Matt Corallo. :) As Maged said, he's a trusted developer on this board.

Now is a good time to buy an account! The Bitcoin exchange rate has stabilized during the last days and the account price for a single one month account has dropped from 2.1 to 1.8BTC (that's 14.3%).
edit: it's down to 1.7 now!

17  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: High speed Blockchain Download on: August 18, 2011, 10:27:27 PM
I was sick of waiting 24hours for blockchains to download so I have uploaded one for all to download.
This sentence makes no sense at all. You were sick of waiting for the download, so you uploaded it???? So you uploaded it before you even downloaded it? I think nibor just wants to collect points for his ul.to upload....his "hard work".

If you want to download a snapshot of the recent blockchain, use this:
http://bitcoin.bluematt.me/bitcoin-nightly/blockchain-nightly/

The blockchain snapshot gets updated frequently and the download is directly and more high speed than through stupid ul.to

These archives contain a complete, up-to-date copy of the blockchain.

You can use them by simply uncompressing them into your existing bitcoin
data directory and opening bitcoin with the -rescan option.
That would be some variation on
User Folder/AppData/Roaming/Bitcoin or User Folder/Application Data/Bitcoin on Windows,
or some variation on User Folder/.bitcoin/ on UNIX/Mac.

These files are pgp signed, please ask me (BlueMatt) on freenode
or check my forum sig on bitcointalk.org for the relevant public
keys.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the hottest eWallet right now? on: August 18, 2011, 10:02:48 PM
You have 2 phone numbers to call on their website and also an IRC channel.
Yeah, i've seen that. But it's still very shady for an online wallet service to register a domain under a fake name and fake address. It's not some gambling site where you gamble with 0.xBTC, it's meant to be a wallet service that will hold many accounts with the (maybe entire) BTC savings of people (average joe). An IRC channel and the telephone number are both worthless for legal steps and the "Kris" user on this forum may use a proxy to write here. If they are that honest, why didn't they use real information for the domain registration? And why don't they have any real contact information directly on their site?

Again, i'm not saying they are a scam site. The site looks professional and it's creator might be honest. I just wouldn't trust the site because they do not have any real contact information directly listed on their site and the domain is registered with fake data.
19  Economy / Gambling / Re: [BITLOTTO] Sept 7 BitLotto Draw Update Thread on: August 18, 2011, 09:31:10 PM
that sounds like a great idea... not too skewed but ever so slightly skewed to early-bird tickets... so say the first 50 tickets are 0.22 btc and then 0.25 btc after that.
Hmmm...i think that would be worth a try! But i would say 0.2BTC and 0.25BTC to make that gap a bit bigger or even triple steps 0.15, 0.2, 0.25BTC. Maybe also buy signature space for advertisement to get more attention on the lottery.

But most important..... this time, I will win!  Grin

edit:
bitlotto, in your monthly round threads, you could also add links to comments or threads where people said that they did win (on the assumption that not every winner will stay anonymous on this forum). This could gain some trust too...
20  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is the hottest eWallet right now? on: August 18, 2011, 09:10:54 PM
I recommend WalletBit also.

And I know they are trying hard to be a quality and secure service.
walletbit.com looks professional but the person behind it is anonymous! There is no name or address information on the site at all. The only information you can find is through a domain-whois query:

Quote from: whois(walletbit.com)
Administrative Contact:
Gain, Code info@codegain.dk
Codegain
Copenhagen
Copenhagen, na 1550
Denmark
+36.990167
No real name ("Gain, Code" ?), no real address ("Copenhagen, na 1550" ?)....same for codegain.dk and bitmon.me

I'm not saying they are a scam, they might be honest, but the guy behind mybitcoin.com was also anonymous and we know how that ended....

Tradehill has announced that they will start an online wallet service at http://www.bitcoin.com , i would rather trust them than anonymous:
