DiamondPlus states in both threads that he got scammed, but the sellers are not labeled as scammers. It's even said that "DiamondPlus was offering people large sums of money to say that he was an honest trader". In one case both parties never got to the trade (the trade never happend because both parties couldn't agree about the trade conditions) and DiamondPlus started a thread blaming his trade partner as scammer for a trade that never took place.

I wouldn't trust Google when it comes to language. Have you ever tried Google Translate?

Because porn is not the only thing you can buy with Bitcoins? Bitcoin has other purposes too, it's not dedicated to porn. Just like cash isn't dedicated to drugs. You can buy drugs in every city for cash...does that mean to you everyone who uses cash automatically is a drug addict?

I don't know if the p2p snippet download of the blockchain is compressed on the fly snippet by snippet or not. Even if each snippet is downloaded compressed, you would have an overhead because you would download a huge amount of single compressed snippets and not one huge compressed file.

Call me dumb but i don't get the hologram/private key thing...
If the coin holds the private key, what prevents someone from reading it, sell the coin, and move the BTC away after it's sold? :-/

For that you would need to know that there is an addnode switch, how to use it and you would need know IPs too add. Besides that, if you download it via http you can download a compressed archive of the blockchain, if you download it through the client you will get the blockchain snippet by snippet (uncompressed, if i'm not wrong). Also if you are behind Router that uses NAT, you might only get ~8 connections in the client which will cause the download to slow down eventually.

Because it's not part of the Bitcoin project, the http source is provided by a third party. The external download, outside of the client and from a third party source, comes with the risk of downloading a manipulated block chain. That's why it's not mentioned in the official readme (i guess).

Yeah, i've seen that. But it's still very shady for an online wallet service to register a domain under a fake name and fake address. It's not some gambling site where you gamble with 0.xBTC, it's meant to be a wallet service that will hold many accounts with the (maybe entire) BTC savings of people (average joe). An IRC channel and the telephone number are both worthless for legal steps and the "Kris" user on this forum may use a proxy to write here. If they are that honest, why didn't they use real information for the domain registration? And why don't they have any real contact information directly on their site?

Again, i'm not saying they are a scam site. The site looks professional and it's creator might be honest. I just wouldn't trust the site because they do not have any real contact information directly listed on their site and the domain is registered with fake data.

Hmmm...i think that would be worth a try! But i would say 0.2BTC and 0.25BTC to make that gap a bit bigger or even triple steps 0.15, 0.2, 0.25BTC. Maybe also buy signature space for advertisement to get more attention on the lottery.

walletbit.com looks professional but the person behind it is anonymous! There is no name or address information on the site at all. The only information you can find is through a domain-whois query:

No real name ("Gain, Code" ?), no real address ("Copenhagen, na 1550" ?)....same for codegain.dk and bitmon.me

I'm not saying they are a scam, they might be honest, but the guy behind mybitcoin.com was also anonymous and we know how that ended....
