101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POOL] tailfeather.cc 0% FeatherCoin Pool. PPLNS, Idle Notification, Rock Solid on: May 06, 2013, 09:51:07 PM
Ok thanks.  I didn't think that 24hrs was too short, I thought that it would stabilise within a few hours.  How long does it usually take before you're 'mining' at full speed then?
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [POOL] tailfeather.cc 0% FeatherCoin Pool. PPLNS, Idle Notification, Rock Solid on: May 06, 2013, 11:37:40 AM
My estimated coins/day on your stats page says ~50 given my average hash rate, however I've only got ~18 coins (including the current round coins) in the past 24hrs.  This seems to happen on every pool I've tried though (you're the third). Why is this?

Also everyone seems to be abandoning you, I assume it's because of the difficulty jump??

Thanks

I'm getting the same error but cgminer won't automatically switch to my backup pool.  I assume that's a cgminer issue, not a pool issue, right?

not sure if already answered but I use the command prompt ('cmd' in the start menu) and type 'control userpasswords2' (I think).  There's an option to disable the login screen there.
105  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: BAMT locking half way through boot on: May 02, 2013, 10:18:41 AM
Ok it seems that it's the graphics cards - if I only have one plugged in (at x16) it boots fine.

Windows has been stable for almost 24h now, so I may not need BAMT after all.

If I ever go back to BAMT I'll try booting with 1 card, running the updates then booting with more cards.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Installed to hdd using clonezilla live cd, exactly the same problem.  It gets half way through booting then goes blank.
Same problem with plop bootloader on a separate USB key. Plop loads fine.

AAAHHH!!!!!  Roll Eyes

There is more than one possible explanation for the reboot:
1. it gets too hot
2. the graphics driver has a bug
3. the power supply is failing

1. possible, although it has been much hotter and been fine (heading into winter here in Aus and had a spell of 30+ C days a few weeks back.  It gets 35+ in my house when that happens.
2. also possible, I'm using the latest 13.1 AMD drivers though and it was stable for long-ish periods (3-4 days) previously
3. I hope not, it's a brand new 1200W FSP.  Any way to tell?

Seems dropping it and modifying other settings is dropping the temps and keeping the kH/s near constant.

You don't need high mem clock for mining, I run all my 7970's at 1125-1140 core with 1000 clock fan auto and I never hit above 80C and hashing at 670-700MH per card

He's mining LTC.  Yes, you need a high mem clock for LTC mining.

Oh, oops sorry lol

I played around with my 6950s mining LTC, reducing the mem clock from 1250 (or whatever the default was) to 300 and it made no discernible difference to hash rate or power draw (using a Watts Clever meter).
After discovering that I just put it back up to stock speeds.

Maybe different cards respond differently??

I don't have 5 x16 extenders, I only have 1 and I can't really be bothered ordering more as I've got plenty of x1's and it seems to (mostly) work.  My 5th card is just in my everyday pc for now, I just have to start and stop mining when I use it. Thanks though.
110  Bitcoin / Mining support / BAMT locking half way through boot on: April 30, 2013, 11:34:28 AM
So I'm having issues with Windows 7 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=191631.msg1984541#msg1984541) and want to run BAMT.  I have had it working before when I only had 2 cards, but switched back to Windows as I couldn't get the hash rates up.
Now when I insert the BAMT USB for the first time the launch menu comes up and it starts to boot but when it is gets to just past the .../ssh bit when the boot text comes up, then the screen goes black and it stops responding.  I can't read what loads after ssh causing it to crash as it's too quick.  I have tried several USB keys, including the one that used to work a few weeks ago.

I'm using BAMT 0.5c and Win32 Disk Imager.  I have 4 6950s and a GB 990 FXA UD3.

I am aware there are boot issues with the GB boards, but I think my issue is slightly different.  As I understand it most of them wouldn't boot BAMT at all (not even the launch menu)

Thanks
111  Bitcoin / Mining support / cgminer randomly resetting Windows 7 on: April 30, 2013, 11:28:33 AM
Hey guys,

I'm running cgminer 3.0.1 (also had this issue with 2.11) and every few hours I find my computer stuck half way through booting at the Windows 7 screen.  I think it's locking up when it tries to load the AMD drivers.
So what I think is happening is cgminer crashers and somehow causes Windows to restart, then it locks up on reboot.  If I turn it off and back on it boots but not before asking if I want to run startup repair.

So:

Has anyone had this issue with cgminer and have a fix? or
Does anyone have a fix for it locking during boot (cgminer runs automatically when Windows boots so I'm not worried about 2 lost minutes every few hours)? and
How do I get startup repair to stop coming up after a failed boot? It defaults and is a pain in the ass when there is no monitor plugged in as I can't tell if it's booting Windows or launching startup repair.

I'm running 4 x 6950s on risers. An ASUS, XFX, Sapphire and MSI.  All are at default clocks. MB is a GB 990 FXA UD3.

Thanks

It also depends how much you pay for power...
113  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Motherboards: What Works w/Four or More GPUs? List Them on: April 27, 2013, 12:07:33 PM
Ok thanks.

See pinout here for the TCK pin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

I pulled out one of my cards and the PICE slot came with it Smiley
114  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Motherboards: What Works w/Four or More GPUs? List Them on: April 27, 2013, 01:48:44 AM
I don't have any of the extender cables with a molex connector, I'd never heard of them when I ordered my parts. Do you plug your power supply into them to boost the PCIE power?
I guess it could help when running a lot of cards.
Maybe it can work with more than 4 cards... Smiley

I busted one of the PCIE slots and bent one of the pins (the TCK one I think), is it important?  Otherwise I only have 5 slots that work.
115  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 running 6 cards or 4 cards? on: April 27, 2013, 01:40:17 AM
Hopefully the link works, I use the x16 to x1 risers and a x16 to x16 riser for the main card that I plug the monitor into.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PCI-Express-PCI-E-1X-to-16X-Riser-Card-Extender-Ribbon-Cable-for-1U-2U-chassis-/161013743576?pt=AU_CablesConnectors&hash=item257d2abfd8&_uhb=1#ht_4196wt_979

They work fine for mining, but you won't be able to play games.
116  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 running 6 cards or 4 cards? on: April 26, 2013, 01:32:54 PM
I've got one and can only get 4 cards to work.  I get ~1.8 MH/s mining litecoin, your mileage may vary.
All cards are 6950s (different brands), 3 are flashed, all are overclocked in cgminer which also underclocks if they get too hot. Stock voltage.

I tried a 5th card, it booted but I couldn't get it to mine.

WHAT WORKS
Motherboard Brand: Gigabyte
Motherboard Model & PCIe Slots: 990 FXA-UD3
Power Supply Brand & Model: FSP Aurum Pro 1200W
Number & Model GPUs: 4 x 6950 (1 each of ASUS, XFX, MSI and Sapphire)
Extender Cables w/Molex Power? 1 x PCIE 16x extender and 3 x PCIE x16 to x1 extenders.  No molex power extenders.

Tried a 5th 6950 (XFX) but it wouldn't work.  The MB has 6x PCIE slots total, would have been nice...

4 x 6950, 3 of them flashed
1200 W PSU
Cheapest AMD CPU I could find Smiley
Gigabyte 990 FXA-UD3, couldn't get a 5th card to work so it's in my everyday pc.

The case is a 'cage drawer' for a storage unit I bought from Bunnings (hardware store here in Oz)

It gets about 1.8 MHash/s using cgminer and draws around 900 w (some of the cards are overclocked a bit but all stock voltage)
