I'm in Aus and would maybe be interested, however it will depend heavily on timing, cost and my disposable income at the time.

My fourth block worked, the only change I made was to add 'PORT=7998' (or whatever port you're using) in the .conf file.

I got exactly 11 coins though, I thought it was 8 per block?
83  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DGC] DigitalCoin.Co || A Currency for a Digital Age || LAUNCHED on: May 20, 2013, 11:40:11 AM
Really? I found 2 blocks in 25 minutes with a 6950, both orphans Sad

Small sample size, I know...

edit: make that 3:0 to the orphans...

20 second block time huh?  How's that working out for everyone right now? Smiley

86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] WorldCoin WDC | Coin of the Future | Instant Transactions | Launched on: May 19, 2013, 08:12:19 AM
Regarding the security issue, I don't need to sign or enter a pin when using my credit card for transactions under $100.  Is that secure do you think?  It's definitely convenient.
Just food for thought, maybe WDC is suitable for many small transactions rather than a few large ones.
87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Can someone please make an INFLATIONARY coin? on: May 19, 2013, 08:07:53 AM
I know nothing about making a crypto-currency, but all appear to be deflationary which encourages hoarding, not spending, as the value goes up over time.  If this was such a good thing then most governments would have stopped creating extra money long ago.
A coin needs to decrease in value (slowly and consistently) to encourage trading and keep the coins in circulation.

So, can someone (or better yet a group of coders + economists) get together and create a coin that addresses the shortcomings of previous 'get rich' coins.  As I see it the main 2 issues are the coin's value (over time) and transaction/confirmation time.

I don't know enough about this to suggest how it gets done, but I assume that an increased block reward over time would do it.  The devil is in the detail though, as the reward needs to scale with adoption.  If it goes up too fast the coins will become worthless and if it goes up to slow the currency will be deflationary.  I assume that inflation of ~2% pa, in line with most government targets would be acceptable, but I'm not an economist.  Perhaps the block reward can scale with difficulty?

This also opens up another can of worms, since the increasing block reward will mean that there is no upper limit on the number of coins available - is this even possible?

Much discussion ensues...

88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So what do we think the Pump price for Worldcoin will be when it hits X on: May 19, 2013, 07:55:45 AM
people are saying 0.02 BTC , its just what I heard?
...I might not even sell them and just hold on to them...

This is why these things don't work as currency.  When's the last time you held onto a $100 note and it went up in value?

This isn't a personal attack btw, just making an observation
89  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Proof of Human" Coin ? on: May 19, 2013, 07:48:02 AM
Good idea in theory but if you truly want a coin that is used as currency you have to design an inflationary one, otherwise people will hoard them.  I am still yet to see someone do this, all the coins I've seen are deflationary and this is not what you want in a currency.
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I see WDC on cryptsy.com now, will this be the first exchange for WDC? on: May 19, 2013, 07:41:53 AM
I tried to register, but their password restriction put me off. I refuse to use a password that requires upper and lower case characters, my passwords are already complex enough with out that noob 1990's BS.

Trolling?  If not, http://keepass.info/ I have a different 100 bit+ password for every site and wallet.  Just make sure you back up the master file and have a strong password for it.

Does anyone know the site admin? Do they have a good/bad reputation?

91  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: how is it possible that Batch1 shipment havend all arrived and batch 2 are on: May 18, 2013, 02:55:46 PM
The same reason you are able to 'speak' English yet not able to spell Tongue

But seriously if it takes 3-4 weeks from China for you to get your Batch 1 order (internationally) and you're at the end of the queue, yet another is in China and at the start of the Batch 2 queue (i.e. domestic delivery) it would seem obvious, no?

TBI I'm a bit PO by all these whiny 'I want my Avalon' posts; it takes as long as it takes and if you couldn't afford to risk the money then it's a bad investment.  Even if the difficulty doubles (from now, as opposed from when you ordered) before most of us get ours delivered it's still a ~1-2 month ROI which is unheard of in most investing circles.

(FTR I'm still waiting on a Batch 3)

Also full disclosure I'm a little drunk Tongue

My camera (and most other new ones) has that effect too, but it works better when I plug the graphics cards in Tongue
93  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Botnets are to Bitcoin, what GPUs were to Bitcoin 9 months ago on: May 18, 2013, 09:43:06 AM
That's nothing, I just shut down my 100 GHash/sec array because it kept filling my attack zepplin with too much hot air - and I don't have oxygen bottles plentiful enough to keep cabin pressure going. That'll put a dent in my party plans, nobody likes to be a sick guest aboard a luxury airship.

Please, if you are in your underground volcano lair, just pull the thermocouples from the hot magma and stop mining, it's going to get someone hurt.

Genius Cheesy

Also what's with all the overreaction?  If mining is profitable right now but may not be in X months then just keep mining for another X months and shut down then. WTF, so simple.
94  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [2] countdown! on: May 17, 2013, 02:19:51 PM
Also sorry to hear (seriously) but there is a lesson here for everyone reading about investing money you can't afford to lose (or do without for several months).
Hope you make it through this though.
95  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [3] countdown! on: May 17, 2013, 02:09:43 PM
Hey crabm -- sorry batman, batch 2 has now (at least begun) shipping. So we can rejoice a bit.... yeeha!

I'm going to guess there won't be a huge delay between the shipping of batches 1 and 2, but on the down side, it's going to be overall a somewhat slow process to get all of batch 1 , then batch 2, shipped.

But all good. Super stoked. And I think lateness should be well within my personal acceptable range of 1/10th of late as BFL, so I'm happy.

Sweet! Cheesy  Thanks for the update but how do you know?  Their site still says 'production' for Batch 2.

I assume you mean batches 2 & 3 above?
96  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon batch [3] countdown! on: May 17, 2013, 10:26:04 AM
I can only hope.

A quick eyeball of the network hash rate graph indicates it's gone down by ~6 TH/s or ~92 * 65GH/s Avalons (The real number is probably ~80 as some people ordered the 4 module version).  Given batch 2 hasn't started shipping yet and some people haven't received their batch 1 orders (apparently) it's progress but everyone's a way off getting anything.

Even if it takes a couple of months to pay for itself it's a massive ROI compared to anything else out there so we should try and keep things in perspective here Smiley

Whatever happens, happens. But I want, I want, I want...
98  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Issues unlocking Sapphire 6950 shaders on: May 12, 2013, 12:36:18 AM
I've unlocked a Sapphire card that looks very similar to that.  I booted into a dos prompt using a usb boot disk (make sure you load your flashing program and modded bios onto it too), then flashed the bios using ATIFlash.  Don't flash it in Windows, I could never get it to work right.
99  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is FTC dead?? on: May 10, 2013, 10:23:28 AM
I managed to mine for a day back when they were first released and sold them the instant they were on BTC'e.  Really I just got lucky though as I don't really follow these things too closely - it was just a bit of fun to mine them for a change.
They ended up paying for a third of my mining gear in that day though Cheesy

I have 2 XFX 6950s in my mining rig, I don't recommend them.  They run hot and one of them wouldn't let me flash the 6970 bios (only card out of 5, other 3 are ASUS, MSI and Sapphire - all 6950s)
