101  Other / Meta / Re: Mods. I believe threads like these need to be locked. Need your opinion on: February 22, 2018, 04:18:21 PM
I tend to agree.  The "Bitcoin Discussion" section is a bit of a mess.  There is alway a dozen or so threads on page 1, with 1000's or replies, but nothing really new being added, and people are obviously not reading through the thousands of previous replies to see that their comments have already been covered 100s of times.  Some of the topics are rather silly, like "would you still buy bitcoin?" ... open topics where virtually everyone can have a opinion, but no one really cares what your answer is.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Twitter link to etherscan got me suspended on: February 22, 2018, 12:48:37 PM
That is terrible.  Did twitter explain the reason in the appeal?  I know some social media said they will ban crypto ads - which I took as paid for ads - but never heard that they will suspend people for links.  And etherscan is harmless.
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AIRDROP] XNN - XENON - Massively Distributed EOS Alt-chain on: February 20, 2018, 10:07:14 PM
A 'internet fraud' claim against Xenon Network has been filed with the FBI . Details of their whitepaper, them lying to point to fake Github repo and also money lost by traders on Ether Delta has been submitted. I encourage you all to please go ahead and do so too.

Not sure if this is universal, because they banned me (read only) from telegram for asking questions, but this is what I got when I tried to open their telegram today.  Is it gone for everyone?

Method: channels.getFullChannel
Result: {"_":"rpc_error","error_code":400,"error_message":"CHANNEL_PRIVATE"}
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Virtual Fork of Bitcoin - Bitcoin Minor on: February 20, 2018, 07:53:11 PM
Do you have a 3 or 4 letter "ticker" you are going to use?  BTCM?  I don't see it in the Announcement or on the website.  I keep a list of forked coins and will add this.
105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [EBYTE] Etherball - Totally free distribution on: February 20, 2018, 07:21:35 PM
Sixth distribution will be on the 2nd of March (just a couple of weeks away).
Increased ratio, you will receive 0.1 EBYTE for every 1 ETH and 50% of your EBYTE holdings.

Nice.  I also caught the part above about How the Ebytes are stored in a smart contract that only allows distribution.  Very nice way to handle this, and will relieve the fear of the dev dumping.

I also question why you are not promoting this, running a campaign, or something, to bring awareness, but I see you have your reasons, and I do appreciate that you are giving the early holders a head start.
106  Other / Meta / Re: google recaptcha on bitcointalk on: February 20, 2018, 02:31:41 AM
I don’t mind recaptcha when it is working properly, but my biggest issue with it is that I redo it several times, often as many as 5 to 10, because it is simply malfunctioning.  I will solve the recaptcha, get the green check, but when I click the “submit” button, a message will say recaptcha solved incorrectl, try again, or some such thing.

I’ve googled this problem, and it appears that google tracks you and once you have solved many recaptcha, you get tagged as a likely robot or some such thing, so it ramps up the difficulty and makes you redo them several times....

It seems to be a common problem in the crypto world because everything requires recaptcha.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: List of Forks [updated 2/17/2018] on: February 20, 2018, 12:26:34 AM
A great list!

I run a similar service on Btcdiv.com and just added the ability to see what exchanges the forks and airdrops can be traded on for Bitcoin.

I hope it can be of some use:
https://btcdiv.com

Thanks, I added your link to the front page.

UPDATED with Bitcoin Community, New Bitcoin, Bitcoin Eco, Clams and Byteball.

EDIT:  On 2/20/2018, added Bitcoin Minor and Dogetherium
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Thoughts on Litecoin Cash? on: February 19, 2018, 10:55:33 PM
I don't really have a dog in this fight (other than I have some Litecoin and if this coin does well, "free money", if not, I lose nothing) but why do people point out that Charlie Lee doesn't endorse this coin, as if it means something?  Did Satoshi endorse Litecoin when Lee forked if off of Bitcoin?
109  Other / Meta / Who has earned enough Merit to Rank Up beyond "member"? on: February 19, 2018, 07:02:05 PM
I'm only aware of two "member", or above, who have earned enough merit to rank up.  There are probably more, but I have been paying attention, and these are the only two I'm aware of.

1)  One is the well-know member Nullius.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=976210

Currently, a "member" with 435 merit, which would not only get him to Full Member, but Sr. Member, too, I believe, when his activity increases.

And this, of course, is well earned.  He is a great poster.

2)  The other member is DeeperX.  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=1038794

Also, currently, a "member" with 268 merit, which would not only get him to Full Member, but Sr. Member, when his activity increases.

While I have no opinion myself on DeeperX, I would point out that he has negative trust, by Lauda, for

"DeepOnion is a copy/paste project with a massive amount of shills. This user will censor any mention of this, which makes his behavior and project even shadier than it already is.
Read the reference link for more information.

More ratings and information can be found on the original account: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=321080.
User has created this account to avoid their negative trust. Avoid this scam project."

Again, there may be others, and I'd be interested in hearing about members I may have over looked.

I just thought it was interesting to note the seemingly wide variation in the quality of these posters, who have both reached the promise land.

110  Other / Meta / Re: Merit Data from 503 Randomly Selected Altcoin Bounty Hunters on: February 19, 2018, 05:58:19 PM
I'm not sure that this tells the entire story.  How does your investigation into Altcoin Campaigns compare to the group as a whole (i.e., are members of campaigns significantly different than the entire population?)

I just picked a random thread off the Bitcoin Section first page:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2974825.20

At the time, there were 29 responses.

9 of the 29 had received merit (note, I mean at some point prior, not necessarily in this thread) ... 31%  (a little higher)
20 had no additional merit.
The average merit received was 1.28 (a little lower)
Of members who had received merit, the average was 3.44.  (a lot lower)

Granted, a smaller population size, and it was a bit of "shit post" thread to begin with (and I really did select that thread blindly, wasn't look for a "shit post") ... but without a baseline to compare the Altcoin members to, it doesn't really tell us much.
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Ethereum" founder warns cryptocurrencies ‘could drop to near-zero at any time’ on: February 19, 2018, 03:30:11 PM
A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investing scam promising high rates of return with little risk to investors. - investopedia

Sure, bitcoin did actually rise a huge huge percentage from years ago. But this is only due to supply and demand. "Bitcoin" didn't promise any returns as bitcoin isn't a company and there's no sort of primary leader that can make such claims. So your argument is invalid.

What is 100,000% profit for Bitcoin in 8 years ??

His point is that in a Ponzi Scheme there is always a central figure, who promises guaranteed returns, and controls all the accounts and can make off with all the money any time they feel like it.

In Bitcoin, there is no central figure, if you take security measures no one can empty your wallet (account), and there is no one promising you that you will make a penny in the long run.

In fact, as the thread points out, quite the opposite.  The central figure in Ethereum isn't promising you anything and advising you to diversify away from Cryptos.  Can you find a Bernie Madoff quote like that?
112  Economy / Speculation / Re: Predict where Bitcoin will be in December, 2018 on: February 19, 2018, 03:22:02 PM
Yes, let's quote the previous poster.
Bitcoin is around $10,000 in February 2018. Predict were it will be by December, and give a reason for your prediction. It will be fun to look back at this thread in December, and also educative if we don't edit pur predictions and reasons Smiley

Also, you will improve your powers of prediction.

I'm going to predict $22,000.

To detect editing, we can post the previous post.
You haven't given your reason for predicting $22,000, Sir.

Yeah, I missed that part.  I don't think 2018 will be like 2017.  I'm thinking 2X for 2018.  The reason for the slower growth will be increased regulation and adjustment to new tax crack downs.  I think 2018 will be an adjustment year, then back off the races for 2019.
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: "Ethereum" founder warns cryptocurrencies ‘could drop to near-zero at any time’ on: February 19, 2018, 02:04:51 PM
Reminder: cryptocurrencies are still a new and hyper-volatile asset class, and could drop to near-zero at any time,” the entrepreneur tweeted. “Don't put in more money than you can afford to lose.”

If you're trying to figure out where to store your life savings, traditional assets are still your safest bet,” Buterin added.

I agree 100%.  It is doubtful Bitcoin or Ethereum will suffer that kind of fake, but it "could" happen.  I think the warning more applies to 1000s of "Useless Ethereum Tokens" that are getting launched.  And there is no better advice than "don't put money in that can't afford to lose".  I started with 2% of my savings.  I won't be happy if this all goes to shit, but I won't be devastated.  Crypto is fun.  There are hardly any rules, and the rules they do have are largely unenforceable or easily circumvented.  It's the Wild West of asset classes.  That makes is interesting and very entertaining, but also dangerous.

115  Economy / Speculation / Re: Do you trust chart analysts? on: February 19, 2018, 04:10:34 AM
I don’t really trust chart analysis for anything.  It gives you something to think about, but I would not rely on it.

I’ve been watching CNBC for decades and their chart guys are wrong as much as they are right.  In other words, random guess would work as well ... and that is for stocks, where they don’t move nearly as much as crypto.

I agree with you that crypto seems be driven almost entirely by news, and for the most part moves in unison.  The top 50 or so appear to be highly correlated more often than not.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: Why are bounty hunters guilty? on: February 18, 2018, 04:37:50 AM
I think he is referring to the general sentiment that profession bounty hunters dump their coins and tokens immediately, sometimes causing the coin price to sink below the ICO price.  That may often be the case, but if the project was worth investing in the first place, don't worry about it.  From what I've seen, ICOs normally pay the buyers a few days before the bounty hunters, so if they have doubts about the project, they can always get out before the bounty hunters.

But I wouldn't invest in a project that I didn't have long term faith in, so I couldn't care less if bounty hunters dump.  IMO, it will be their loss in the long run.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CryptoKitties - Ethereum's first blockchain game on: February 18, 2018, 04:30:47 AM
are CryptoKitties still real popular?  The ethereum network seems to be moving faster than it was in December, is that because of a fix, or because CryptoKitties died off?

I was wondering the same thing.  Gas is down to 1 Gwei for "safe low" so the network congestion is all but gone.  It seems like Cryptokitties, and perhaps Ethereum as a game platform, has died off rather quickly.

Did that "Tanks" thing ever really catch on?  I don't think so.
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BitConnect Situation on: February 18, 2018, 04:26:10 AM
Every thread on here prior to Bitconnect falling part had multiple warnings that it was a Ponzi Scheme ... so no one on here can claim they didn't know ... but still many "invested" anyway.

Either they thought we were just FUDing, or it was just greed and hoping they'd be the smart ones that get out before the inevitable crash.

I know of one guy who still won't admit it was scam, and believes it was market forces that caused the Bitconnect crash, and thinks it was generous of the them to pay people back in worthless BCC tokens (after stealing their BTC deposits).  No joke ....
119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: List of Forks [updated 2/17/2018] on: February 18, 2018, 12:41:28 AM
Updated with a couple of Bitcoin Forks.  Found an oldie I had missed, "Bitcoin Pro".  And a new one "Bitcoin Lunar", scheduled for next month.

Also updated the dates of forks that launched this week, and added a section for projects that are often mislabeled as "forks" but are really airdrops or ERC20 tokens.  Also included a list of reference sites that I use in addition to skimming the announcement pages here at least once a week.  I marked a couple as "Website Offline" and will move those to "Dead" if they are not back up by next week.
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][AIRDROP] XNN - XENON - Massively Distributed EOS Alt-chain on: February 17, 2018, 06:29:19 PM
WARNING THIS TOKEN IS A COMPLETE SCAM

See here as proof: https://github.com/vmware/xenon/issues/27

--------------------------------

I'm not trying to buy any of your scam coin!

See the Github: https://github.com/vmware/xenon

Note the message: "VMware's Xenon project is not related to any crypto currencies - please note that any crypto currencies claiming to be related to this project or to VMware in general are likely fradulent"

I think there are two different Xenons and XNN.... or it is really some FUD here

Yes, the problem is, the former admin on XNN CryptoCurrency Telegram was trying to convince users that they were linked to the VMWare Xenon project, when they were not.  VMWare has confirmed this.

We have no idea who the people on Telegram are, because that Telegram is not linked from the main Xenon Webpage, nor was it ever linked in any official communication via their Twitter, Slack, or this announcement thread by the OP.

I can't trust that telegram for now ... they need to provide some evidence that they are actually part of the Xenon team, and that the project is moving forward.
