Kano-San - How does an Orphaned Block occur? Thanks in advance.
An orphan occurs when the pool is slow to send out the blocks it finds or another pool found a block at the same time.

The Fibre Relay is the biggest help in reducing orphans.
Though for some unknown reason, no pools pay for it except me, according to the person who runs it Tongue
(and I pay about half what he expects since we are clearly a lot smaller than the large pools that use it)

However, there's 2 classifications for 'orphans' due to the 2 reasons why they can occur:

1) Normal Orphan - when 2 pools find a block at the same time and neither pool sees the other pool's block before their own.
The internet isn't perfect so data can take time to get around it.

2) Stale - when we get a block late, 'after' another pool gets a block.
This is due to a miner sending a block late to the pool, after the pool has switched to new work on a new block height.
When this happens, most pools don't tell you about them, or to be correct, you will probably find that no pool tells you about them other than pools using my database code.
They represent a block that should not exist - but since the pool code will (now) switch to it, we try to confirm it ourselves, so if we get lucky and get a double block, then we will keep the stale and switch the network over to it instead.

Stales don't count as orphans since they shouldn't exist - but there's still the (small) chance we might confirm it anyway Smiley

Once again, KANO-SAN The Subject Matter Expert Speaks and this Grasshopper listens with both ears. Thanks.

In your experience, does the reward make up for the long wait before a block is found? I currently average 0.002918071 per day with Slushpool with only one S9.

Yes, absolutely. I switched from Slush to Kano and I definitely see the difference. Slush is a fine pool, nothing wrong with it, but the fee is higher than Kano (2% vs .9% when he has it). The pool is much smaller, so the variance is higher, but the payouts are great when they come.

Thanks a bunch wavelengthsf. I'll give it a try for about a week or two and see how it goes. Hopefully great!! Smiley

A week or two is not a long enough time period to do a proper assessment of the Pool. Give it 6 months, then look at the data. You have to have a bigger sample size to do a proper analysis. Mine On with Kano-San, it is worth it!! Come On Block!!

Thanks for the clarification. Turns out that nya.kano.is is faster for me than kano.is (35ms vs 91ms). Will changing the node over affect my shares and ramping up? I've been online with kano.is and if it won't make a substantial difference should i stay put?

Thanks in advance everyone
.

The faster the node, the faster you can get the work to your miners, do the math and return the result back. They say in life, timing is everything, the same applies in Bitcoin Mining. Changing over is not going to affect anything regarding your ramp up that you need to worry about, if anything it might help you since you theoretically can process more shares per shift since you can get the work and return the result faster. I hope that helps.

Hello all, super noob here. Have 3 S9's ordered from ebay for the late Jan batch, praying this order doesn't get cancelled. Hopefully be online by the 2nd week of Feb. Looks like a great community and I can't wait to join in the fun.

Do your homework now. Ping and find out the fastest server to connect to. Read the threads and try and discern how to set them up and how the 5ND works, etc BEFORE they arrive. If you can get the 22/240 V circuits installed before they arrive, Power Distribution Units and Power supplies on hand. Many Noobs don't do this and end up finding themselves trying to put all the little pieces but needed pieces into place. Welcome to the Best Bitcoin Mining Pool on the Planet with the Best Subject Matter Expert running it. Mine On With Kano-San. Merry Christmas.

How would one ping the servers? Currently have all my miners pointed to port 3333 but would love to know how to see if another port is better. Thanks
The port doesn't make any difference for performance.
The Node does, the others are: nl.kano.is de.kano.is jp.kano.is sg.kano.is and nya.kano.is
How to do it is to go to your Command Prompt.
C:\>ping nya.kano.is

Pinging nya.kano.is [104.207.132.42] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 104.207.132.42: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=54
Reply from 104.207.132.42: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=54
Reply from 104.207.132.42: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=54
Reply from 104.207.132.42: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=54

Ping statistics for 104.207.132.42:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 16ms

Above is an example of a ping command. You are looking for the lowest millisecond number possible to connect to. In my case it turned out to be the NYA node with an average 16ms round trip, then the other two were the eurpoean nodes in Germany and the Netherlands being my 2nd and 3rd Stratum addresses to point the miners to in case my primary mining pool node failed.

Mine On with Kano-San. Come On Luck, you flip flopping 50/50 coin tossing jewel that you are.

31.76% of Diff achieved,  can we get a super lucky, 50/50, flip flop coin toss block for Christmas? Lets end 2017 with a few more BLOCKS!! They make nice Stocking Stuffers I've heard. I went and had a discussion with my 4 Antpoo's and they said they were working on it. They have been appropriately encouraged and are giving it all they've got. MINE ON with KANO-SAN!! The best BTC mining pool on Earth.

Hey, congratulations on the block, I have a question regarding the rewards. Is the "n avg" supposed to be the average hashing power my rig is doing? If so, why is it showing a number a lot less then what my rig is giving on the rewards screen (It showss 1.7 THS when I'm actually closer to 7 THS) ? Good luck mining buds.
It's your average over the 5Nd=9.370T, in this case over the last 409hr 52m 47s before the block was found.
If you've not been mining for 409hrs, then your average will be lower than your hash rate.
e.g. if you've been mining for half of the 409hrs your hash rate would be about half.

Thanks Kano. So How many hours would I need to get my average as high as my hash rate for the next block?

If you go to the Workers Shift Graph, you should be able to eyeball it. It is days across the 5 times Difficulty. Mine On with KANO-SAN

Finally had time off work to bring my new S9s to the mine and get them setup - so they're working hard to find that block. I tried to convince my wife to let me run them off the air conditioner outlet in the living room, but she has a firm no miners in the house rule.

Come on block(s)!

Come On Block!! It would make for a very nice stocking stuffer!! Congrats on bringing up more TH/s to the pool. Let's do Dis.

BTC is now 15,300 on Stanky GDAX. No worries, BTC is not going anywhere. I went and had a little chat with my 4 Antpoos and they said "they were working as hard as they could Boss." They have been sufficiently motivated. Now, lets BUST THIS BLOCK!!! Mine On with Kano-San. Someone please bring forth some fried chicken and an Anime Goddess!! That seems to improve our luck!!

@rogerkver sock puppets. Ignore and/or ban them.

This is one of my favorites:

"""""""I tried to warn everyone the price was too high.

Many people did not believe me  Cry

But now the price is plummeting more and more each minute.

I'm sorry everyone I tried to save you... but its not to late to sell and cut your losses"""""""""

I didn't get the warning. I mean he has been on the forum for like 5 minutes so..... Undecided

People like this prey on weak hands. Trying to get them to sell when everyone with a brain knows that BTC does this after every big run, then it goes right back up to new highs. Predator!!

Anyone shorting BTC, eventually will be REKT. People like this are predators, trying to take advantage of people based upon emotions. I buy all DIPS. The fundamentals of BTC haven't changed nor will they ever change. It is the reserve currency for the Crypto world. Period, end of discussion.

How about being patient and teaching the New Ones who show up on the board better. Kano from what I can perceive so far is very patient considering he has answered the same question 50 times, and I have only been here about 3 weeks. Others responding to Newbies have not been as patient. This is all very new for the vast majority of the people who try the Pool and mine here. A little but of patience is in order. Honestly, I almost left after how I saw some others responded to on this board, but then someone would step in and actually help the person out and I stayed. Mine On with Kano-San. Come On Block!!

Did you reply to the right person when you sent this?  I thought I clearly explained what was going on, in a clear concise manner.

M

I just made a general statement, not directed at any single individual. Bottom line is, if you want to grow, if this pool wants to stay viable, as ANTPOO floods the market with miners, a welcoming approach and a lot of patience is required with Newbs. The people like me, who was new to mining and had only been in Bitcoin since last June. I understand it is frustrating but from what I have gathered we are dealing with people from all over the world who have extremely varied life experiences and which may not think the same way as you or I and vice versa.  Patience is in order. Tone is important. Turning people off towards the board or the pool only hurts everyone else who wants to see KANO Pool grow, me included. Have a good day and MINE ON WITH KANO-SAN. Come On Block.

I am a faithful Kano Pool Miner and running in full node system. I have always received consistent rewards for mining.  The longest wait for transactions or deposits to my bitcoin core wallet has been 1-2 and one time 5 days.  I am concerned because I have my miners working hard, sucking up the power grid. They are mining and shares are earned but I have not received any reward or share deposits/transactions in over 10 days now. My last transaction was 12-10-17. I am starting to think something is wrong and contemplating going to another pool. Please help. What is going on?

The last block was a long one.

The payout from that block is sitting out there in bitcoin land waiting to be confirmed.

No one else will confirm it because of the low tx fee.

Odds are we won't get the payout until the next block is found here.

Pray for more hashpower here to reduce variance.  Actively recruit other miners.
