I think why there is so many questions is because some wording on the payouts help page is not clear.  Terminology is new to most people, like 5nD.

If someone told me that 5nd is 5 times the difficulty level currently, and that represents the number of shares that are used to calculate the payout, and explained that the 5nd as being a "moving window" where as you get paid on your percentage of the contributions you made to the pool during that number of shares ( NOT TIME nor BLOCKS)   So, of the 9,365,527,376,108 shares submitted before our block was found, you gave X percent, in my case on the first block I had .03% but I also was not contributing during the full 9,365,527,376,108 shares prior to the block.  When the second block is found, I will have a higher percentage of that 9,365,527,376,108 shares and the payout will be higher, and so on with the 3rd and 4th and 5th blocks.

The confusion for me and I seen for many others is that they expected whatever the first payout was to be paid 5 times, ie one time per the 5 blocks found, Which is not true.  The payout gets bigger becuase a higher percentage of shares has been submitted ( Assuming you contiunue to mine 24/7 on the pool without leaving)

Explaining that Network Difficulty works out to about 3.3 days, and x 5 = 16.5 days and this is approx. how long it will take to be paid the full amount for the first block of the 5 blocks - again this is without factoring in luck, difficulty level changes etc.

I may have butchered some of that, but hopefully it makes sense

** Note to new users, this is set up this way so that people do not pool hop, and show commitment, and that the fee is less than anywhere else, so you do actually end up getting paid more.
A good example is the current transaction fees paid per block now are upwards of 10 BTC, at Kano, that is awarded to the miners, where many other large pools keep that extra as a bonus for their engineers.  Is that fair?  10x17000usd = 170 000usd per found block, and how many in a day?  Why do you want to be the one helping that other pool rip you off?  If your answer is that they pay you every day and you THINK you are making more, then don't actually let me know why.  I have heard that excuse many times.

Keep this in mind -  If a site/pool looks good on the front end then the back end is not so nice.  If the front end is ok, and gets the job done, the back end is probably better than the other guy.
3 good examples.  Nice hash - user interface nice, graphs etc. easy to work.  -  backend, not so good, got hacked, 4700 BTC Stolen
Antpool - Nice front end, graphs, organized, some analytical data etc.  Backend - Engineers getting crazy bonuses for your work - I will bet that they do not get all of that either.
Zpool - I was here right after nicehash got hacked. was good data on front end, somewhat easy to use once you understood the layout. they were at 3 PH/s for SHA, climed to 11.2 PH/s after nice hash went dead.  I had 1 S9 there for 2 days, total pay was .0010. During that time their sql server could not handle the load, was falling behind.  Owner got new server, set it all up, earned BTC was not accounted for correctly, people started to leave, they are back to around 3 PH/s again.   To gain so many new users with no effort, and only to lose them so fast.. what a shame.  He gets to keep my .0010 BTC because I will never mine there at all.

You can't factor in luck coz there's no possible way to EVER know it in advance.
The explanations are all based on expected luck - which is all you can ever do.
That's why it says 'expected' Smiley

have 4 more s9's coming in Jan, to ad to my collection of 1.. and I ordered an extra PSU just in case one died.  Also have a L3 coming in march, but thats only becuase they ran out of S9's

Get the car battery out and make some cables, get those things running..  Think a car battery would not last very long though.

well, buttmain doesn't want $$$, they want btrash... incidentally, the only valid reason to ever have any btrash is to get their S9 miners...

That is what is keeping BCH around. BCH is at 2100 and falling. Man talk about a fire sale. I think bitcoin forgot its parachute when it left the plane.  Grin

How about being patient and teaching the New Ones who show up on the board better. Kano from what I can perceive so far is very patient considering he has answered the same question 50 times, and I have only been here about 3 weeks. Others responding to Newbies have not been as patient. This is all very new for the vast majority of the people who try the Pool and mine here. A little but of patience is in order. Honestly, I almost left after how I saw some others responded to on this board, but then someone would step in and actually help the person out and I stayed. Mine On with Kano-San. Come On Block!!

Did you reply to the right person when you sent this?  I thought I clearly explained what was going on, in a clear concise manner.

M

I mine at Kano's Pool because it pays the best and is completely transparent!  Come join me!

When the pool is smaller, there are fewer blocks, but your block reward is higher.
Statistically, it's expected to balance out as long as we don't get too small.
[/quote]

ITS VERY COOL BY THIS POOL!

"...don't get too small" That is important. More marketing is needed. If the population gets too big the dry spells may get too long

I suggest a numbers example of PPLNS (5d) - Ive worked through many many posts and its crazy how often this needs to be explained. Even crazier is everyone keep on explaining it with little to no frustration / sarcasm showing.

I have a funny feeling that my S9 Miner is going to find our next block.  Within 14.73 Hours.  With 20.84 Bitcoin.
I say this because it has found many blocks when it was on nice hash, on SHA 256 for other coins, and one time a high enough Best Share value to be bitcoin.  The other thing was, this happened on two weekends in a row, on the Friday Night!  WIERD I know..

Honestly- I havent hang around many mining pools to compare. One thing I do know is that if I look how long this pool/thread is running it is amazing how the same tedious questions are handled with respect on a public forum.

So yes, you are probably right.

Hello Dancers !

My first S9 will arrive tomorrow...
Here in good old Germany the electricity coasts are very expensive.
My House is from 1904 the power lines are the same age.
I hope I will not burn down my house, all I can say is: MINE ON! Smiley

I have a similar situation. I just had an electrician friend install two 20 amp circuits to two separate outlets specifically for my miners. It was a few hundred bux, I think (still haven't gotten the bill). It took a couple of his guys a couple hours. So, its more than worth it for the peace of mind.  Cheesy

Today my main breaker circuit in my house was melted, four days after installing 3 antminers secured after a 16 amp breaker (1 pointed to kano, 1 to slush, 1 to mining-dutch) . No lights in house, it took two hours before the called mechanic from the electricity company installed a new main fuse, the old broken one of 25 amp was replaced by a heavier 35 amp. Problem is here in the Netherlands you can not see or look yourself at the main breaker fuse, so I assumed it was already 35 amp, the current standard. Wrong guess, old house, old main fuse. Will cost me 2 days mining to pay him.
That's rough. I've a nephew in Amsterdam, and was aware of your regs. Still sucks. At least you've got 240.

Mine on.

To infinity and beyond...on two 741s and one of only 3...nope, make that 4...full nodes in Hawaii...on <30A. (I have other gear on the Hoth ice planet)

Just so you know, the "found blocks" counter when using Nicehash is inaccurate. Nicehash's pool proxy can report a found block even when it hasn't found a block. Your best share could also be wrong - your S9 just trusts what the pool sends for that in the screen, it doesn't keep its own copy as far as I know. (You can see this because when you connect to a pool that doesn't report best share, like viabtc, that value doesn't update.)
