Not everyone can afford to keep mining. I'm sure a lot of those beginners will see that they aren't making "profit" and decide it is not for them, even with efficient machines such as the S9. I'm waiting for them to die off and leave the mining to those who are serious about BTC. I don't care about the profits because I am not cashing out my BTC, so there technically is no profit or loss yet. Those that are relying on finding blocks to justify mining the blocks will soon grow tired of the anxiousness and stress to pay the bills. It's not for the weak or simple minded, it's not a get rich quick, it's not easy money. It's hobby or it's a business with a lot of resources. Even as a business you are scaling to fail and your long term viability will diminish.

I’m fully ramp up with my S9 now, and my percentage is about 0.03%, and I usually get awarded at 0.0035xxx per block found at Kano.
At normal pool, I get 0.00125 (after fee) minimum per day, so as a month (30 days) I get 0.00125x30=0.0375/month.
So if we found less than 10 blocks/month (depends on luck), I can’t get as much as normal pool.
Do I get it right here?

yup - thats more or less accurate from my understanding.  i was asking similar questions last month when i started mining on Kano, migrating my 4xS9 to this pool.

Its been a tough end of Jan & beginning of Feb ... but i'm hopeful for the future.

btw, theres no such thing as a "normal" pool ... just different hashing/share calc & payout methods.
I have 1 S9 at Kano from 14 Jan,  but with bad luck and depend on the pool hashrate, the income is not as much as I thought. I have monthly bills to pay, what should I do?

Sell it to me.  Grin

How does one acquire merit to give? Is there a way other than receiving merit for posts yourself? Can you request Merit? I don't have to take my shirt off or anything, right?

LuxMiner you are a STAR!!!
Well Done.  Grin

^^ What he said. Now I hope BSGMiner finds us a block with that extra hash.

I just wanted to add how cool I think this is as well. I was thinking of doing something similar to some of these smaller miners, but I don't think I could part with a full S9 worth lol. I was thinking more along the lines of and S7, but this is cool. Thanks for helping the pool morale. It would be amazing if Canaan had another giveaway, but not to be expected.

MINE ON!! I had my dose of chicken for the day, so let's see how it goes.

Yes but why would the fan show it’s running 30k rpm if everything’s is fine? My S9’s ramp up and down. One between 5-6k and the other between 4-5k. Temps are mid 70’s. I don’t think that fan can even spin that high. It has to be a false reading and that would explain why it stops hashing.

Peck. What psu are you using? Have you tried a different one?

I am using the bitmain power supply... 220 V

But the power supply on that particular S9 machine is not the new apW3++

SO I will swap power supplys and see if that helps ..  Thanks for the idea!

I just have a hard time believing it is getting to hot... I have miners ranging all over the place from mids 70's to pushing 100 (all in the same exact location)

Does not seem to make any difference to them... lots of people on bitcoin say they run them up to 100 degrees with no problem..(I'd prefer they not be at that but it cant be the room temperature if some are completely cool and some running that much hotter?

Maybe it is something to do with that 13.5 batch?

Running out of ideas... I am running some cooler air back there now but does not seem to change much...

But that machine would stop hashing before, now it keeps running, just those fans revving up and down...

Not sure what is going on with that fan speed reading..my guess it it a faulty reading...

Thanks for all the help!  Will let you know what I find out...

Is it possible to go back on the S9 firmaware to the older versions where I can control fan speed and freq?

Again thanks to all!!

Peck

These miners are a case by case basis too. I have some machines that are overclocked and have not had one problem and others I have to turn the frequency down a bit and set a min fan % to keep them cool or they will lose hash boards. Dust and debris will hinder the units from dissipating heat and heat seems to be the big threat to these. I don't know if the S9's have the same problems as the S7's but if the heat sink is loose, it will not pull heat from the boards so the fans can move that air. If you are having hash problems as well, then you have other issues beyond the fan, though I've swapped for higher rpm fans and have remedied some heat issues. That or turn down the frequency and see what difference, if any, you see. It could have a weak power supply too, but you won't know until you can do more diagnostics.

Well I think we've figured out the problem (thanks to all of you!)

I switched the problemchild S9 to a different power supply and runs prefect...

Put the other S9 that had been running good on the bad power supply and it makes that miner speed up and slow down like crazy...

Freakin Bitmain power supply...  Pretty sure I bought it brand new a few months ago!

Ordering another one today...

Thanks everyone for the help...

Pecker!

Awesome! Mine on.

Look at those temps, 80+. That is your problem, your room is way too hot.

Thanks for the info...

But I've got 5 other miner running anywhere from 75 to 100 degrees and everywhere in between...

Different people have told me different things on the temperature.. but I know at least one said they run up to 105...

I am in a completely controlled air cooled environment that stays at 70 degrees year round (underground cave)..

I have fans blowing to move air as well...

Changed both fans from another working unit and still doing the same thing...sometimes shows both fans, sometime one fan and rpms from fans are allover the place..

Very strange...Any other ideas?

These images posted are not all of the same S9 are they?

Help with fan speed on Antminer S9

I have 4 S9's that run smooth and you hardly ever hear the fans on any of them speed up or slow down.. (some with auot freq, some without)

I have another used S9 miner I am installing, everything is great, except the fan speeds up and slows down every 15 to 20 seconds, slow, fast, slow, fast..

Any thoughts or ideas on why this is happening and what I can do?

There was a post on bitcoin forum about editing the fan speed thru HTML and I tried that...set the fan speed to 70% (according to the kernel) and it is still doing it...

Really, really annoying...  There has to be a workaround somehow...  How can some do it and some not?

Looking for any thoughts or ideas that might help...

Thank You!

Mine On Dude!!

Try to change the controller for a new one, that should solve it.  Smiley

Ok so I got a new controller board for S9 and installed it on the machine...

The old controller board would hash for about 15 minutes and then quit hashing..It was the same S9 with the fan racing up and down about every 10 to 15 seconds.  SO I unplugged it until the new controller board go there.

As I mentioned none of my other S9 miners do anything like this...

So with the new controller board it is mining but the fans are still revvingn up and down every 10 to 15 seconds.  And I mean a lot...very noticeable and noisy.

see the fan speeds below... all over the place... see the image (if it shows up) I hope.

Also what s9 parts would you recommend having on hand at all times (extra controller boards and fans)??

Any help would be appreciated and Thank You!  These miners are frustrating at times...

Would it help to update new firmware.  Is the front (exhaust fan) always the white connector on the farthest outside of the miner?

This is hardly advice, but if it were mine, I would first update the firmware ---> swap fans ---> then change controller. What does your worker graph look like? Are you dropping any hash at all or is it isolated to the fan? That 30K rpm reading is obviously an error in which I personally would try those steps in that order. I'm still trying to figure these things out myself, though I've had success in swapping fans with funky readings.

Changing the 'ramp' is not how PPLNS works, nor would it be appreciated by those already at the 5Nd.  If you want less 'ramp' time, increase the pool's hashrate by mining here!  Wink
You really missed the point and will be hoping to get 2 blocks in a month soon.. so sure, even if you solo mine 'the math works out' if you can live 7000 years or whatever
Fake news! Sad!
Really??

EDIT: In all seriousness, I don't have any animosity toward you. I appreciate differing opinions, and I wish us all success in mining--here of wherever you prefer. Best of luck!

He's not a miner. I believe he is just going around trashing mining now. He may have been a miner at some point, but his name alone leads me to believe he prefers (delegated)PoS to PoW.

He's more than welcome to comment as well, of course.

Your more than welcome to go back and search on my old account DPoS instead of fabricating

And even in this thread go back to my early posts a month or so ago to see how my main points of a small pool should still stay above 20 expected blocks a month so luck doesn't bite you in the ass...  but even Kano ignores it and acts like the math stays the same all the way down to one USB miner and 'everything works out'

what a bunch of douches

I have no desire or need to search your "old account".

I invited you to respond because I made an assumption based on what you post AND your name to which you only pointed to your "old account" and still have not commented on whether or not you CURRENTLY mine. So did I get the name or assumptions wrong?

I may be a douche, but at least this place will be smelling fresher once the stench is flushed out.

hmm I guess then I'm surprised you're still here.  That would take you back to the Nov/December time frame as we haven't ran 10 blocks a month since that timeframe.
A friend of mine and I mine here, I switched from Slush in mid Jan. *before* the doubling of hash and user @ slush, it  took me at average 6 days to mine .01 BTC there.  And luck at the time was closer to 100%.  For me we just turned .01 in 2+ days here.  Yes I know I didn't account for the 600% block.   And that block was 165% diff.  So I'm quite happy to stay right here and *gamble*.

about a week ago we looked at slush, btc, and here and decided this still was the better option even given the luck issue.  What do they say "A pendulum can only swing so far and then has to switch back" Smiley

I think the other thing that people forget.  A month ago, blocks were paying at average around 15-17 BTC, look at our last 2 - stuck right above the base pay.  so that in and of itself is a 25% reduction in revenue that effects *everybody*.

Money is not what keeps me here. I believe in the bigger picture. Again, you avoid the question. How much hashing power are you contributing? Should be a simple answer.

I'm glad that block made everyone happy........except DPoS2  Grin

Yes, you pretty much linked the answer in the very first post that you quoted.

How? Please help!!

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, but I think you may need to watch this video about AntMiner set up. It's for S7/S9.

https://youtu.be/CcJwEtd4x

After you get logged in on the miner, you need to choose one of the "stratum's" from the first post. Goodluck!!!

I too am a grown man with a family and a career of my own. But I am also responsible for $60k in mining hardware. When I ask a question in a pool thread, in a pool I support, I expect both supportive and critical responses. Not wiseass remarks to mine elsewhere. Won’t feed the troll anymore..just clicked ignore.

If you have needs to be met and you have found a way to meet those needs, then go with that.

Rifleman just chooses to not be so elegant with his words. It's not that big of a deal to me, he's just one person. I'm also used to internet forums.

You met another need with that ignore button.  Grin

Rifleman seems to have noobs squarely in his sights. All he does on here all day is troll the forums and bash down potential new miners. Maybe he doesn't want to share the pie?

It was directed to rifleman who seems adamant that this isn’t the right pool for me and I should mine elsewhere...that tone towards potential miners is certainly detrimental to the growth of this pool.

I understand what you are saying and it may be true for some and may be not, but you don't really know that because you haven't been able to measure it. Would it be possible for you to just realize that is his personality and you know....brush it off?

I'm a noob and he seems harmless to me. I'm also a grown man.

Also, as new miners join the forums, they ask the same questions over and over. I realized my questions were not new as well. There are some questions that even veteran miners may not understand fully but have just been going with the flow of things, in which case it's good to bring them up.

The same ones over and over and the arguing that comes with it is what gets frustrating, so it's easy to be short and grumpy and point people to where they can find the answers.

However, what is increasingly annoying are those who DON'T mine here and continue their attempts to stear miners away from the pool (*cough cough* DPoS2).

Ive said it before and I'll say it again; THERE IS A REASON QUESTIONS ARE REPEATED.

It's because when you're asking people to give up an entire diff adjustment without a full reward(if a block is mined) then you better have clear instuctions on how shit works. The reason this thread is so "active" isn't because the community is that awesome, it's because new miners are told kanos pool rocks, but the website is near impossible to understand from a noob perspective. Combine that with people wanting to pay bills and you have a recipe for disaster. It is quite an easily remedied issue as well.

Add a ramp line to graph, make payout terms in plain speak, not math-nerd jargon, make the site nicer to look at. It should take a couple hours at most.

Cue rifleman saying mine at antpoo. Eat a dick man, youre so fucking rude.

Mining isn't armchair football. It's technical and it's the reason every single person out there isn't mining. If there's SO much support on all these other websites, why don't they have all the answers for everyone?

There is a lot to learn when you're jumping into this without a technical background. Some of us, like myself, are willing to learn as much as they can about this venture to get the best understanding and make the best decisions with continuing. It's not going to be a place where kids and grandmothers come to learn to mine and complain to tech support. If it's a technical question, you will get a technical answer. Some people want things broken down beyond basics and STILL don't get it. At that point, what do you expect from other miners in a forum who happen to mine on the same site? I think the problem is the expectation that Kano owes you something for choosing to mine here.

And let's just say Rifleman eats a dick....then what? We'll all have to live with that image. I can't imagine many new miners are going to enjoy seeing that. He's just going to tell you to go to Antpoo afterwards anyway and we will all have forgotten he ate a dick and you will have to prompt him to yet again. See the cycle that will create?   Shocked

The ramp up time is a function of the 5ND. Its not some arbitrary variable that Kano sets.

Changing the 5ND is a BIG change, that would impact everyone. It would mean, on average, payouts for blocks would go down for everyone.

It's too easy to get caught up in the idea of "change" that you skip right over details like that.
