103  Economy / Speculation / Re: YORK's price prediction topic. on: July 17, 2017, 04:34:43 AM
At least York has decency to tell the truth that he already cashed out and will watch what will happen on Aug 1. Things doesn't seems right indeed. Forum is so quite and its not a good sign. Looks to me that ETH is really pushing btc on the side specially come Aug 1. We hope btc will remain healthy after Aug 1.
1 aug is coming indeed. This downmove was predictable. Next move depends on the hardfork or if UASF saves the day. Lets see.

If HF happens what price you expect? Also will this affect alts connected to BTC like XCP?
Furthermore, if UASF gets accepted (Hopefully) and we enter the 3000-4000% BTC phase, will alts follow or everybody will dump to get to the BTC train?

It's simple. If SegWit gets activated all the other great implementations which are in the pipeline can and will get integrated as quick as possible. MAST, Lightning, Thunder, Schnoor, RSK Sidechain, confidential txns etc.
Many of the alts will go down cause there is no need to use them anymore.
True. Bitcoin is dieing because of the users. Together we can UASF this whole Jihan Wu & Roger Ver bullshit, and Bitcoin will be stronger than ever. But the users are too lazy to do something and Barry Silbert will centralize Bitcoin in a couple weeks. They already hardforked Bitcoins testnet, they will do the same to the main network. Prepare for the mother of dumps that you have ever seen. Looks like we have lost guys. Save yourself, dont become a bitcoin unlimited (renamed to SegWit2X) puppet. Bitcoin isnt immutable anymore.

Another weak hand, lol. You should read this..

Are you dumping silver for cheaper BTC rebuy ?

What kind of fool would do that?  Silver is at cost of production or even below it for some miners.  Silver is a far better buy than BTC.  Next metals bull run will probably be gold $3000-3200, silver $90-120.  If there's some type of big economic event or lots of printing, gold $5000-ish, silver $166-$200.  If they're forced to revalue gold entirely in one act, gold will be set to $10-20k and silver will be astronomical.

LMAO

Another lunatic precious metal shill like cliff high. Hilarious stuff man, haven't learned your lesson since you bought up gold with ur BTC huh

Photobombing pro-Bitcoin messages with a QR code included should become a new trend.

All you need is an image to send people money... when has it ever been that easy to move money around?

Awesome away to spread bitcoin awareness too.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Siacoin Epic Monster Moon on: July 12, 2017, 09:31:01 PM
Sia got hit harder than most alts... even though the entire crypto market took a nosedive. Some coins are straight up shitcoins but Sia has good long term potential and a solid team behind it. So I was really surprised that it would get hit so brutally.

There was a bit of panic around the Obelisk uncertainty and funding but it seems to have been sorted out.

They have 1200 Obelisk pre-orders and they will move forward with the production (people who ordered will get an estimated 250GH/s now)

The received a $400K grant from Li Xiaolai, a well-known billionaire in the crypto space who believes in Sia's future

NBlockchain provided the grant so that the Sia team can focus on development and not on fundraising. "Don't worry about money, just have things well done,” said Li Xiaolai, founder of INBlockchain.

So, the price drop did hurt me a lot... but I'm also more confident that it will recover. What worries me the most is if BTC rallys to $5000-$10,000, shouldn't the ratio of SC/BTC drop even more? Otherwise, I really do think SC has been oversold, especially since some of the uncertainty has been relieved and the team can fully focus on development for the next year. But I do have a bad feeling that the downtrend isn't over yet... and SC could potentially drop as low as 150 sats.

Sad

I was reading an analizes that considered the "real" price of SIA, and by that they meant the price of SIA related to the rented/sold storage space around 89 sats. That being said everything above that would be from hype/speculation. What are your opinions on this?

I really have no idea where the "real" price of SC should be... how did the calculate 89 sats as real price?

I've been out of the game for a while.... questions:

What are the chances of a split chain on this upcoming Aug 1st drama?

Are most of you holding your coins?

If there is a split chain that survives.... will Coinbase give you access to both chains?

Thanks

These are the questions. That's for sure.

Lol.

We are all like you
I had 14btc, went up to 16, and now it is stable at 9.50

Let's have this discussion in a few months :-)

In a few months:

Bitcoin price: $10,000

Alt USD price: stagnant

alt/BTC ratio: all time lows

Yeah.... that's my greatest fear
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: My crypto Portfolio - when will I be rich? on: July 12, 2017, 04:38:48 PM
UPDATE:

So as you can see from my original post... I had 15 BTC invested in alt coins.... I haven't touched it since and now it's worth around 6 or less.... I don't even wanna look at the balance  Cry

I TOLD YOU GUYS I WASN'T RICH... you can never know with crypto... you look like you're about to be well off one day and the next day you are worth half as much.

For people telling me "why not invest more of your BTC in alt coins"? THIS IS WHY I DON'T PUT MUCH IN ALT COINS.... Alt coins come and go, there is no certainty with alts... but BTC is here to stay. Even when BTC dips I can be assured that BTC will prevail. Whether my Sia, ETC, LSK, and GAME will recover is up in the air... I really have no idea. SC still has good tech behind it and solid devs/community and they recently got funding... even so, the market likes to play games with alt coins.

I'm not selling at a significant loss. I will hold until the end. But right now I'm sad... I knew I had too much in alt coins. Lesson: NEVER GIVE UP YOUR BITCOINS

112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much ETH and/or ETC can I mine with a single GTX 1080? on: July 09, 2017, 05:34:11 PM
I have a GTX 1080 and I have mined ZEC (EWBF) until now (hashrate around 480-500 Sol/s)... however, the OC must be quite aggressive and the temperatures are north of 70C.
Now I moved to ETH (ethminer) and with the GPU downclocked -400 and the memory OC +600 I get 23.5 MH/s with the temps around 62C.

There's a big difference between these numbers - ZEC:3.64 USD/day, ETH: 2.67 USD/day (according whattomine), but I prefer lower temperatures and noise.

However I found out that both ewbf and ethminer let you play games - the hashrates, however, will go down drastically to about 50% during gaming time.

As for 31 MH/s - ETH, I assume - for GTX1080, there must be a mistake, there's no way to get there!

with 1070 you get 27 MHs for 1 gpu
with 1080 you get 31 MHs for 1 gpu
all these are without overclocking

It is better to mine ZEC.

Lol at cryptocompare.com it's saying I'll be making $147K/day mining ZEC with 23MHs LOL!!! No way this can be right... I'm still so confused on how you figure out what MHs you get per GPU, and it seems like it's totally different for each currency.

https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/zec?HashingPower=21&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=200&CostPerkWh=0.12

Can anyone tell me how much I'll get with a single AMD Radeon RX 570 (on ETH, ETC, XMR, ZEC, SC) ? If I get two of these cards is it safe to double the MHs as an estimate?
113  Economy / Speculation / Re: Just DO. NOT. SELL. Bitcoin... we can ALL be rich! on: July 09, 2017, 08:08:09 AM
I agree with you we all can be rich, but holding the bitcoin will not give us much profits. As it is gaining popularity i would suggest sell it on every increase and buy it on every dip, as you would be earning more with trading.

Time in the market > Timing the market

No one is smart enough to time a market as irrational as bitcoin. If you are a pro trader with a proven track record then sure, go ahead and trade. Holding is much easier, and most holders in crypto end up better off than traders. Patience prevails panic and fomo
114  Economy / Speculation / Just DO. NOT. SELL. Bitcoin... we can ALL be rich! on: July 09, 2017, 07:27:23 AM
Guys, seriously, don't be f***ing stupid. We all got into this thing early... why the hell are people still getting shaken off? Why are you letting noobs get their hands on bitcoin without paying a premium? Why would you ever sell below your buy-in price and bet against bitcoin's nine year history? If every bitcoin HODLER refused to sell, do you know how f***ing insane the price would have to jump to catch up with demand? More than you can imagine. In fact, there will be a time when there won't be a reason to sell... when merchants and consumers around the world transact with bitcoin, why convert your money (bitcoin) to fiat and pay a large chunk of capital gains to the government? You can retain ALL of that value when you transact directly with bitcoin. Don't think it's happening? Japan, Korea and Switzerland are already taking aggressive steps to make bitcoin easily available to the public and accepted by merchants all around the country. This is it fellas, we are on the verge of hitting mainstream. Stop selling bitcoin, all of us hodlers will flourish if we all just stay put and HODL together. Some things to consider:

1. Every single metric (coinbase 1million new users/month, localbitcoin data, hashrate, transaction count, new wallet addresses) is showing signs of massive continued growth! NOT the opposite as people will make you think with all the FUD.

2. THERE ARE ONLY 21M COINS!! Even less considering all the lost coins, the HOLDLER coins, Satoshi coins, etc... people need to understand how LIMITED the supply is. At the growth and popularity bitcoin is seeing, there is NO WAY the price can remain at this level with such a limited supply. Another 15 million people in this world can't even buy 1 whole bitcoin!!

3. As mentioned above Japan, Switzerland, Korea, India, and Australia are embracing bitcoin, regulating it, making it readily available to citizens and many merchants are rolling out with tech that makes it easy to accept bitcoin payments. Japan alone has over 100K stores that will start accepting bitcoin this summer. This trend will only continue to grow as bitcoin becomes more efficient and as more people acquire bitcoin.

4. The big bad "scaling debate" is like the only FUD people have about bitcoin... and the funny thing is, we HAVE the solution to scaling. Both parties that hold the key to ending this debate have incentive for bitcoin to succeed. Buy the rumor and sell the news people... the rumor is that bitcoin will scale, bitcoin will move forward, things are gonna work out and this debate will be a thing in the past like Mt Gox and Willy bot.

5. Bitcoin is here to stay. Don't care about Ethereum or the the million other centralized alts out there. Bitcoin is unique, bitcoin has no face or centralized foundation that change the protocol at will (hence why scaling took so long), bitcoin has the most recognition, the best reputation and the most trust, bitcoin is becoming a name everyone has heard, bitcoin is a true commodity, bitcoin has the most liquidity and security,, bitcoin has the best developers in crypto, the higher the market cap grows the more stable the price will become and bitcoin is way ahead of the competition. With sidechains, colored coins, LN, smart contracts and other second layer enhancements... bitcoin can do pretty much everything the alts can do, while being far more secure and immutable,  and it does what it needs to do--being a currency, store of value, and a limited uncontrolled commodity--the best.

/rant.

Just hold your f***ing bitcoin. Let the price rise and stop paying a piece of your bitcoin wealth to the government though capital gains tax. Stop letting the noobs join this train years later without paying a massive premium! We can all make it.

117  Economy / Speculation / $10,000 per bitcoin.... ENOUGH of this bullshit!! on: July 05, 2017, 05:03:32 AM
Ok, as you can see I've been waiting for bitcoin to hit $10,000 for a long time:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=424515.0

What sucks is that we are SO CLOSE to being at a position to hit $10K... the only thing keeping us from that level is OUR OWN COMMUNITY. Bitcoin WANTS to go up but the uncertainty is holding the price back. This fighting and clashing of egos is doing great harm to bitcoin... and allowing other crypto (ethereum, litecoin, dash, etc) take advantage of the situation. All bitcoin has to do is survive... and AVOID a CHAIN SPLIT AT ALL COSTS. $10K/btc is my retirement plan and if we can just not let our egos make a rash decision that causes a chain split... that would be great!

Japan is aggressively embracing bitcoin acceptance with over 400 new stores that will be accepting bitcoin payments starting next week, and 260K+ merchants by the end of the summer. That is a lot of stores!

GoldmanSacks of dick released a super bullish article on BTC, you know there will be sheep who will buy anything they recommend. To receive this kind of positive press and recognition 3 years ago would be unheard of!

Crypto in general is proven itself as something that is here to stay, that will NOT become a niece. When I discovered bitcoin we could only dream to be at the level we are at now!

Ransomware = bitcoin's killer app Wink

Possible China/Japan/Korea/India BTC ETF? Don't think it's a long shot at all, and I'm glad it's still a rumor.

US economy / stock market still hasn't hit a recession. What happens when we do, as bitcoin gains the reputation of an excellent hedge, akin to digital gold?

Things are looking good.  The tides have been turning in our favor for the last 2-3 years. The ecosystem is becoming big enough to take the price beyond $10K with the limited supply BTC has. We have the tech to meet any kind of demand and competition bitcoin faces, including the above. If there is a chain split there will be one chain that will be equipped to handle the kind of demand bitcoin is about to face and one chain that won't... and both chains would lose significant value, so what is the point? We don't need to turn 21M supply into 42M and confuse the world on which one is the "real" bitcoin. Believe me, a chain split that ends up creating 2 bitcoins will not end as well as it did for ETH. I get there are egos involved that's leading towards irrational decisions.. but at the end of the day are you telling me both sides of the camp, who should be greatly invested in bitcoin's success, are willing to sink the whole ship when we are SO CLOSE to reaching the kind of demand and reputation we could only dream of even 3 years ago?? This can't be real. I AM HODLING regardless.

119  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: How much ETH and/or ETC can I mine with a single GTX 1080? on: July 04, 2017, 08:36:10 AM
Thank you both... how did you figure out that I get  23MH/s?

Based on numerous online sources, a GTX 1080 will give you about 23MH/s hashrate on ETH.
According to https://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency/coins/ethereum that's $2.71 daily in ETH without accounting for the power costs.
Keep in mind that ETH's price is extremely volatile and should increase in the future as it grows.

$2.7/day is actually a bit better than I thought. What about for ETC?

Or is ETH the more profitable coin to mine right now?

I was wondering if I could use my gaming PC to mine either ETH or ETC.

Could anyone help me with an estimate of how much of each I could mine per week/month/etc?

Would I be able to use the PC at all while it is mining?

Thanks

For profit calculator (estimated) try one of the following (or both):

https://www.nicehash.com/?p=calc
https://whattomine.com/

You can use your PC while it is mining (for light stuff like browse the web, read e-mails, etc) but you cannot play games (since the GPU is used at 100% for mining)

Thanks for the links and info. Do you know if mining will damage the GPU?
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Siacoin Epic Monster Moon on: July 03, 2017, 12:42:23 PM
I believe in Siacoin. Storage is expensive, so it is a solution to a real world problem. Although I don't think it will be USD 0.3 by December.

30 cent??

that's more than 10X where it is at now! I'd be happy with 10 cent... hell I'd be happy with 0.05 cents!!

Time to buy or is this sucker going deep? I sold at 800.

Well f*** you! I was about to sell at 800 but got greedy and though... why not sell at 1000?? Then THIS happened!! Sad Sad

Yes, I think under 550 is a good buy... but then again what do I know
