101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: Selling 2.25MHS mining rig on: March 18, 2014, 05:42:40 PM
Don't be angry, but:

You = 2250 KH/s / $2050 = 1.09KH/$1 @ 850w

Gridseed 10 Pack = 3600KH/s / $2500 = 1.44KH/$1 @ 80w.

 Sad

I don't know what you paid for your hardware, or how you value your time in building it, but you're at least $500 too expensive. That's not even comparing to the gridseeds, that's just pure GPU rig costs. If I were you, I'd at least be open to offers.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: FusionCoin FSC BUY/SELL thread. on: March 18, 2014, 05:33:10 PM
WTS ~20,000 FSC

PM with reasonable offers please.  Grin

Jesus, man 96*C?!  Shocked

I'd be grabbing a damned fire extinguisher. That, and I would absolutely love to know how you got 7 gpus running under Windows.

105  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][FSC] FusionCoin | Dual PoW(SHA256&Scrypt) | Both Merged Minable on: March 18, 2014, 04:59:24 AM
Even 7.6 GH/s seems wrong. Where are all these people?

Agreed. 7600MH/s? Private pool or solomining? Seems unlikely, unless some LTC pool has jumped in, but hasn't actually announced it. In any case, Dev seems to have had poor control from the beginning. Interesting idea, but SHA256 & Scrypt communities are quite a bit competitive with each other. I'm not certain an endeavor like this would ever work. Maybe Scrypt & some variant, like A-nFactor with different difficulties so GPU Miners could keep pace with ASICs.

There's an idea: A coin with different PoW algorithms suited to each mining clique, ASIC, GPUs, CPUs, all with their own difficulty and equal chance of getting coins. -- You heard it here first folks.  Grin

108  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: BFGMiner 3.10.0: modular ASIC+FPGA, GBT+Strtm, RPC, Mac/Lnx/W64, AntU1, DRB, HFA on: March 14, 2014, 04:45:43 AM
For some reason there seems to be a huge difference in performance between bfgminer and cgminer-gc3355.

Here are 10 min runs, the only dif in setup is the miner used:
- watch the total accepted shares
- watch the HW errors on bfgminer
- watch the spamming message from stratum

I had the occasion today to try out BFGMiner with my GS. The controller I was using didn't work well with the USB hubs, GSs, and winUSB driver. I was forced to use a different driver that assigned COM ports to each GS.

My question is, which driver version where you using for each one? My experience was that CGMiner refused to see the GS under any circumstances, and BFG would only see them with two specific GS drivers that assigned COM ports.

The fact that there are so many hardware errors across all units, sounds to me like either a port misconfiguration or a bad driver.

I did ultimately move the GSs over a different controller that I could get CGMiner to work on. BFGMiner would always have 1-2 GSs showing hashes but never submitting shares, even over an hour of mining. Better luck with next release.  Wink
109  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGRemote hidden donate ? on: March 14, 2014, 04:16:11 AM
It's not like there is another (hidden) instance of BFG/CGminer running. So, if there were donation mining happening, you should be able to see it in the miner window and recorded in the miner log, etc, right? Milone is a good guy, his software is mostly free (donationware), and personally I see nothing nefarious going on.  Smiley

If you are really paranoid, lockdown your API pool permissions. Then nothing can alter your pools, outside of keystrokes directly in CGminer app itself. No way for ninja donation mining then. [tinfoilhat]...unless there's hidden CPU miner instance [/tinfoilhat].
110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: whats the current preprder situation..? on: March 11, 2014, 11:49:31 PM
thanks for this detailed post.

for me, space is not a issue, I would be willing to give a 10x10 bedroom to the project, if a rig so large can be build with 10 btc.

cooling is not a problem, I have 2 large duct fans that each move 720 cubic feet of air per minute, and one smaller fan that moves 300 cubic feet per minute, that would be able to easily exchange the rooms air. I have 220 wired up to the outlets of this room so big appliances can be easily ran. I had hoped to get a neptune in there but I was not able to get funds lined up in time...

You're welcome. To address what you said -- 220v is not going to help you with GPUs, and would not matter for ASICs. Each set of 10 ASICs as they are currently sold, running in lower power mode use 70 watts approx, plus accessories such as USB hub, router, or rpi. Assuming money wasn't an issue, you could run approx 25 sets of ten, or 250 units on a single 120v/15a bedroom circuit. Heat generation with at least 40 units is negligible as long as the room has decent airflow.

For reference I have 2 of my rigs (10 R9 280x) running in a 10x10 utility room, with an outside window. It can warm the room from 70-80 in less than 10 minutes with the cooling turned off. I have a fan in the window blowing outside air in 24x7 -- from 20*F to 70*F outside air. When it's 50*F and over, it's insufficient to keep the room below 80*F. At 80*F, my cards are pushing 80*Celsius, at which point I have them set to clock back to cool off. So, I have to keep the AC running in that room all day to offset the heat gain.

Although, as people are starting to discover now that the unseasonable cold, long winter is coming to a close in the US, that airflow is by itself, not enough. GPUs generate such heat that it's not enough to simply move the hot air around, you need *something* to pull it out of the house entirely. It's 50*F outside, and I'm running A/C units to keep the temp under control indoors. With Gridseeds, it's like running light bulbs. Not so hot if you have 1 or 2 (sets of 10), but 5-10 start to warm the room a little bit. This will be so much worse in the summer when instead of people's houses releasing heat all day, they are getting warmed up constantly.

The size requirements may not seem like much now, but when in a year people are hashing ten times faster with devices that use up 90% less space, you will be left with a lot of wasted space. The alt coin market in general is looking depressed. Gridseeds are still shipping and coming online like mad. I believe there will be a bit of a market shock in a month or so, when everyone's preorders come in and users get their bugs worked out. A lot of capacity is going to come on line, driving profits even lower, then the demand will fall out of the bottom of the ASICs when ROI is looking more like 10-12 months, if ever. When that happens, prices will adjust lower on them, and it will be a better time to get in. Just one miner's opinion.  Wink
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hashcows with hired rig on: March 11, 2014, 08:14:13 PM
It would be hard to make a profit by renting a rig and using a auto-exchanging pool. You would be better off renting a rig to speculate a newly released coin and dumping it when it hits some exchanges.

Take a look at poolpicker.eu for comparisons on auto-exchanging pools.

Mining and dumping isn't the only way to make money. Values of coins fluctuate significantly, and simply holding onto your coins for a couple weeks and picking your time to exchange can often net you much better results. That said, all multipools (and of course the alt coin market in general) are declining in profitability.

OP: I would be careful of Hashcows. I've had an unexchanged coin balance on their pool for like 3 weeks now. I've contacted them twice about it with no response. I'm tired of checking it every day waiting for them to exchange it. As it is, they have simply taxed me .017BTC; not much, but it's coin I earned.
112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: whats the current preprder situation..? on: March 11, 2014, 07:53:11 PM
Ive heard mixed things about scrypt asics, some people are saying the asics are not worth it to buy a asic because they are not much better than gpu setups, does anyone have any imput on this?

Avg profit from multipools has dropped from a 30 day high of .0013BTC/MH/day to .00063BTC/MH/day, and it's still dropping. Hash rates and difficulties are going up, coin value is not. They are more or less cost equivalent with GPUs in terms of $/KH, but energy usage is obviously much lower. Space is the issue, as these alpha grade products are not the refined devices BTC miners are used to getting. Best to wait for the market and GS prices to stabilize before doing ROI calcs. Anyone jumping in today is just riding on faith that they will make their investment back.
113  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My Custom Gridseed Case Build on: March 11, 2014, 07:46:48 PM
I don't see any reason not to dive in for scrypt use.

Perhaps the rapidly dwindling value of alt coins? I find it as no coincidence that in the week following Gridseeds appearance on the market, Scrypt coins have seen a 30-40% drop in value.  Angry
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] LEASERIG.NET - news: add your rig with just few clicks! on: March 07, 2014, 11:53:09 PM
I just noticed you lease your rig out, DjeZo, at a 3% advantage no less, since you keep your fees.  Tongue
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Leaserig - A renter's experience... on: March 07, 2014, 05:19:26 PM
I strongly encourage everyone renting their rigs out to take this seriously, and understand that you have a responsibility to provide a good service to those paying you for it.... The viability of this service relies upon you doing the right thing.

Perhaps implementing a '5 star rating' system, allowing customers to rate their providers would help differentiate the good ones from the bad ones.

For my part, I've always noticed any dips in service, and messaged the renter about it, and extended the lease without being asked by more than what was lost. I don't think I've had any unsatisfied customers.

Also, I do see a race to the bottom happening, now that providers seem to outnumber renters. The 'Order's' system will serve to only hasten it transitioning into a buyer's market, and putting more pressure on prices. Is the service more profitable than coin switching pools, yes; however, that margin is shrinking quite rapidly. I imagine it will settle to 1-2% higher, as people are willing to lease their rigs ever cheaper.

The precipitous drop in alt-coin value over the last couple weeks also blows. I guess less people are speculating and more people are buying mining hardware now that the asic ship has come in.  Undecided
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: The Official LighteningAsic/GridSeed 5 Chip Setup Guide by UnicornHasher on: March 07, 2014, 12:56:34 AM
I've read that 2.1mm jacks fit the GridSeeds, but it isn't clear if they fit loose, or make poor contact at the tip or not. Does it really matter between 2.1mm & 2.5mm? The 2.5mm jacks are somewhat hard to get locally.  Huh

If the plug was designed for 2.5mm, how can it even fit a 2.1mm? It shouldn't even go in the socket. 2.5 will fit into a 2.1, but loose; not vice versa.

I'm using both 2.1 and 2.5 with no issues.
2.1 fits the center conductor a bit more snugly, which is exactly what you want if your miner is pulling a lot of amps!

Go for it!

Wolfey2014

Thank you very much.  Smiley

118  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 4500 KH/S Scrpyt Miner running 6 Asus R9 280x's on: March 06, 2014, 06:02:48 PM
2 points:

first: 1162/1825 is crazy high and could possibly melt your house down.
second: no pic, so it likely never happened.

It's crazy high, but not out of the realm of possibility. I ran my toxics at 1150/1800 for a while when they were 2-3 to a rig. That's about 810KH/s ea. I have 5 to a rig now, and I have to keep them down clocked because of the heat they throw off. Still getting 783KH/s each, and that's undervolted.  Wink

That said, 880KH/s ain't gonna happen unless you've got some ungodly kernel, and mint GPUs.
119  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 2 Brand New In Box Asus DCU IIT R9 280X's. Can ship immediately! on: March 06, 2014, 05:53:29 PM
Good luck getting no less than $525. If you ordered them months ago you should have paid under $400 for them.  Dont be greedy.

The price is the price. I paid $490 each for them (plus shipping), I would not say $525 is greedy. If no one buys them I'll just end up mining with them. No big deal either way Smiley

 Cheesy

I paid $309, with free shipping for 15 of them. You sir, made a bad purchasing decision.

Advice: Sitting there not mining, they are loosing value everyday, as we approach the next upgrade cycle. The GPU market is reaching saturation, particularly with GridSeeds popping up like weeds. $425 is steep for those, but I think you'll get them sold for that. Accept your loss, or pay $400 for another AC unit.  Wink

One more thing, Summer is coming. How many other people do you think over bought on their GPUs and will have no way to cool them? I'm anxious to find out.
120  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [In Stock] Gridseed miners in Stock in Los Angeles. [$249] on: March 05, 2014, 01:18:40 AM
I had contacted him a couple times regarding the pricing of his units. I got one curt reply, and sometime after he jacked the prices up 25%. Needless to say, they are no longer $250, and the forum advert is incorrect. Looked into another seller instead.  Wink

I suppose he could just be really busy, but that's what being in (busi)ness is all about.
