102  Economy / Reputation / Re: Another Milestone: My 10,000th Post on: June 07, 2020, 02:28:38 PM
DaveF and nutidah, these guys don't have any sense of beauty. They merited you more than enough 1 merit to be captured and recorded in Save your nice merit records here - V2 (new, updated thread). It'd would have been a really rare and nice record tho. Anyway, congrats on your milstone. It's so much time and dedication that you have spent on the forum so far.
103  Other / Meta / Re: Allowing username change, is it good? on: June 03, 2020, 05:56:28 AM
That's the problem. There are many spammers and scammers who aren't being tagged. They can leverage the username change feature to change identities and then continue their dirty work.
I don't think that username change is something that is done easily/hastily. Not in this case, and not in those cases few months ago. AFAIK, all those that got their name change request approved were long standing and reputable members on the forum, that wanted to change the name for various reasons. Some random spammer can submit request for name change, but I honestly think that chances of him getting positive answer are slim to none (unless he churns out 50 BTC).
Maybe the OP didn't point out the problem clearly enough. I and some people in this thread thought that he was mentioning about username change in a massive scale. Yes, if username change must be submitted as requests and needs approving from admin then it's fine, although some jealousy may arise. Anyway, my point remains, username change shouldn't be allowed.
104  Other / Meta / Re: Allowing username change, is it good? on: June 03, 2020, 04:39:27 AM
I used to know who the creator is but he is not the one there. For a moment, I forgot that theymos sometimes changes username on request.
Nah, that guy sacrificed 50 BTC and "VIP" title for the name change: (jk)

I had some 50 btc lying around and I just thought, why not  change my name just for fun?

The spammers and scammers are exceptional, majority of users would love to use it to change their usernames for good reasons like if it's name revealing etc.
That's the problem. There are many spammers and scammers who aren't being tagged. They can leverage the username change feature to change identities and then continue their dirty work.

In general, I think changing username shouldn't be allowed. This is a forum, not a game - where you can freely change your character's name.
105  Other / Meta / Re: Merit system and Pareto principle on: June 02, 2020, 09:49:21 AM
Top-20 or top 20% mate?
The table at the end of OP clearly showed "top 20%": 1. |  top 20%   595288   678082   87.8

Is it because the top 20% created 80% of posts? Since it's usually related to the work done and post count is one of the easiest metrics available.
Not really. In term of posts, I think the 80% of posts (bounty reports) belong to top 20% of non-merit earners. Yes, it's true the more quality post you make, the higher possibility you gain merits.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Impact of mainnet in a project. on: June 02, 2020, 05:50:10 AM
Mainnet is the term used to describe when a blockchain protocol is fully developed and deployed, meaning that cryptocurrency transactions are being broadcasted, verified, and recorded on a distributed ledger technology (blockchain).

When a project releases its mainnet, it's matured. Before mainnet, that project runs on another blockchain. It's like when you build your own house on your own land vs when you rent a house.

A mainnet is usually followed by a swap. If you forget to swap your tokens within a deadline after mainnet, you may lose them forever. In trading, tokens prices usually surge when it's close to the mainnet day. Below picture clearly describes this:

107  Local / Nigeria (Naija) / Re: Project Covid-19: Supply to 50 families in Nigeria outside my community {Update} on: June 02, 2020, 03:22:49 AM
Really admire your work, mate. Before this topic, I only knew about Nigeria via 2018 Worldcup with wild style, green-themed outfit. I didn't know that were a lot of people struggling with lives in there. My country also have poor people but I'm so ashamed I can't practically help them as you do. I took a look at your first outreach. Those kids are lovely in your shirts. I'm not sure in your end but kids in my place are really into football. It would be cool if you could draw some of Nigerian football jersey features to your shirts. Best luck to you to continue the good work.
108  Other / Meta / Re: UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 10:13:00 AM
As far as I know, there's a limitation of length for each post.
Correct. That's what Reserved posts are for.

What I mean is, reserved posts are not really useful for updates. Like you said above, people mostly read new posts; new comers to the topic read (skim & scan) #1 also to get the topic idea. Then updates in #2 are more likely to be overlooked. Take this topic as an example, its author changed the important contents (duration, reawarding pool, rules, stakes...) in #1 instead of updating them in #2. Clearly skimming and scanning #1 is enough to get the latest information. But in case the OPs want to maintain #1's content then a new #1 for updates is perfect (like this topic suggests).

109  Other / Meta / Re: UP Button for post - For original poster on: June 01, 2020, 08:05:29 AM
For exmaple: In signature campaigns, the manager might tell us about new openings, OR in some big threads like those of MERIT history, Bitcointalk updates where big debates are going on, some good announcements to be made etc etc.
You can edit the OP with the latest additions, and quote that part as a new post to bring it to the attention of existing readers.
As far as I know, there's a limitation of length for each post. In some cases when the #1 posts reach limitation, they can't be added any new content. I think OP's idea fits those cases.

111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My Bitcointalk on: June 01, 2020, 06:07:26 AM
First off, I think your topic title should be "My Bitcointalk journey" or something more specific. When I see "My Bitcointalk" I think that the content is something more likely related to your forum account.

Finance is something that's really rare to be mentioned in here and it's surprised to see you're financially independent, thanks to bitcoin related activities. Maybe the majority of your money is earned outside of the forum. But it's a good thing anyway.

Similar like you, I was so lazy to read at first when I came to this forum. I just started to read recently and realized that I have let a lot of my time pass uselessly. Reading not only brings me a lot of knowledge but also makes me calmer and live slower.

Maybe some day I would right books,
Write books, right? Tongue

Using both, width and height is problematic for the image ("scaling issue")

Better use one of the two variants and try to get the original forum size (posts can be editet after posting, if it's too small / too big).
Using one of the two will result in original scaling => scaling issue solved  Smiley
You can easily crop the exact width and height from original screenshot, using Paint:

Agree with the "Archive" part.

Again, his 2222nd merit is mine:

115  Other / Meta / Re: 2020 Merit Source Application - TheBeardedBaby. on: May 27, 2020, 07:22:07 AM
I came here to yell at some random newborn baby asking to be a merit source but it turns out it's not quite like that.

Well played.
I remember that this topic was created by "iasenko". How's that possible, "iasenko" now becomes "TheBeardedBaby"? I don't see any "Change user name" feature on this forum?

I was getting confused too... I could not remember subscribing to any thread with any bearded baby... so I kind of just gave up and said.. I must have known a bearded baby at some previous time.. but Alzheimer's kicking in... condition stronger than previously thought.
I've just digged some researches and found out the old "iasenko" had such a special interest with a bearded baby that he used as his avatar for ages.

Maybe his username was changed the second way:

Q: I want to change my forum username. What should I do?
A: You can either donate 50 BTC to become a VIP or PM theymos asking to change your username (although he rarely accepts such requests nowadays).

117  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Put behind Covid-19, Vietnam held a 10,000 audience-football match. on: May 25, 2020, 02:19:29 AM
Definitely a bad idea in my opinion this virus has a first second and third waves as long as we don't have vaccine for this, yes they have survived the first wave but what they have done could be the start of he second wave, just like what happen to Singapore and Japan where they were hit by a second wave badly because they become relax on the situation.
You'd be surprised if you knew Vietnam was the first country in the world to put SARS 2003 under control, with the help and sacrifice of Dr. Carlo Urbani (source: https://www.who.int/mediacentre/news/releases/2003/pr_sars/en/). The government has seriously taken into consideration before making the decision to allow audiences' attendances. "The second wave" is different from country to country. In fact, the second wave already striked Vietnam in early of March after it had had about 18 consecutive days of non-new infected. Regarding Singapore and Japan, I can't say Vietnam treated Covid-19 the same way with them.

Put behind Covid-19, Vietnam held a 10,000 audience-football match.

They simply tackled covid-19 well. They were first to close borders. They are bordering China. I believe they had no dead from covid-19. There was one English pilot in their hospital with 10% lungs left working and they said unless they will find a donor he will die.
Vietnam was among the firt countries to close borders, the first of the first is North Korea. The English pilot situation is getting better. About 20-30% of his lung recovered. He was moved to Cho Ray hospital - the most advanced hospital in Vietnam for treatment. There were some donors, but compatibility remains concerned.

I mean while this is great and all, I don't want other nations -- who aren't ready to do things like this -- to think that they should. People can scream whatever they want, but COVID is still a threat to many people and many nations.

Very important to note that there WERE temperature checks before coming into the stadium, guests asked to wear face masks, sanitized, etc. In the US we're most likely going to have sports without anyone attending at first, and then slowly ease into something like this. But I'm not sure we're ready to do stuff like this yet, going to take a bit to regain the confidence of people.
Vietnam has reasons to do so but other countries may not. The fact is that Vietnam has 0 infected in the community and hence the risk is virtually zero. Masks and hand sanitization were just entry procedures. People put their masks off when they got in. I totally agree that when there're still community infection, such activities with crowds should be strictly restricted.

This marked the world record of audiences attending a football match at the time being.

Hello and welcome to Vietnam!

119  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Tips] A Member ask Me: Merit Value Greater Than Activity. How it happen? on: May 24, 2020, 11:20:52 AM
[...]
You forgot to point out the real mechanism here. Generally, activity is counted once per 14 days, maximum is 14. If someone wants his merit count bigger than activity count, he needs to get more than 14 merits in the same period of time.

Those tips you mentioned are really useful. There are many other tips but I paticularlly like one of your tips that many other people didn't or hesitated to talk about, it's local board. As far as I can observe, being active in local board helps a lot. However, not everyone has a local board (me for example). It's a bit more difficult then. Your final tip is not really a tip but I also like it. There's no need to be rush, it's like in real life, happiness can come anytime so be prepared to enjoy it.

Where did you start? From newbie or with some initial airdropped merits?

I will try to apply your tutorial and keep practicing it and I wish I will achieve something. 39 more merits to go to the Full member rank. I wish that I can achieve it before the new year 2021.
BPIP is a helpful tool when you want to check how many merits someone has earned. Hope that my little merit will make your journey shorter.
120  Other / Meta / Re: Showing sub-sub board in first page on: May 24, 2020, 05:11:49 AM
[...]
Your idea is good at the first place and it's technically doable. But the current displaying logic is flawless. If you click on any board, you'll find its sub board and likewise, you'll find sub boards of sub boards. However, displaying all child boards and grandchild boards may cause aesthetically unpleasing, for example:

Italian board has a variety of child boards already:

It would hurt my eyes if showing all child boards of "Mercato":
