101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 100% fan speed RTX 3080 ? on: November 29, 2021, 06:41:39 PM
The high fan speed is not the problem, the heat causing the high speed is.
You need to improve heat dissipation and make some noise with large fans.
Or detune the GPU and lose performance.

he is not getting performance he is simply killing his gpu.

at op

lower the memory clock

lower the power setting

get the 108c to drop under 99c

work at that and get back to us.

Set the power to 225 or 230 not 250

set the ram to 1000 not 1300

see what happens

I am using gigabyte master 3080 it’s a 4 slot card, I couldn’t get past 1300 I admit…

Now I have set the memory clock to just 900mhz

-300 core

62% power = 229w in ETH hash

100% ran speed (is it bad for the fans mining 24/7 ??)

Men temp 104 max, will probably drop once I open some Windows !..

Hash 96.4 , was happy to see 100mhash before though…

What can we do about those temps or is is it ok ??….

Do same settings apply to me second LHR card ?!…

here are my settings overclocking my FHR 3080, however the fan speed is usually at  90-100%, is that ok for the fan on the long run ?

is it ok to keep fan on auto for 24x7 mining ?

also is it ok to maintain 108c for memory temp to mine 24x7 or what temp to maintain for 24x7 mining ?...

"The video card must be Rev 1.0 released before week 22 of 2021, the week and year of release can be found by the serial number.
Where the first two digits are the year of release, the second two are the week number. Videocards issued before this date are not LHR.
The serial number is on the box with the video card."

It depends on whether they are REV 1.0 or REV 2.0

Apparently REV 1.0 are not while REV 2.0 are LHR
But good luck getting the REV 1.0. REV 2.0 seems to be the type that if readily available

This post can help you distinguish others - [Guide] How to distinguish between LHR and FHR variant of RTX 3000 series cards

thats really funny

the last 2 cards i bought were:

GIGABYTE AORUS GeForce RTX 3080 MASTER 10G (rev. 2.0) Graphics Card, Max Covered Cooling, 10GB 320-bit GDDR6X

GIGABYTE Gaming OC GeForce RTX 3080 10GB GDDR6X PCI Express 4.0 ATX Video Card GV-N3080GAMING OC-10GD (rev. 2.0) (LHR)

as u can see they both say rev 2.0 also the sticker says that on both cards,

but the one above i got it doesnt seem to be LHR ! i mine ETH on that up to 100 MH when OC'd,

the second one Ya it is LHR indeed !

not sure !...

If you need to quickly connect 2 video cards and you need 5 connectors 4 x6 + 2pin PCI-E.
The power supply has 8 connectors for connection, but the specifications indicate 4 x6 + 2pin PCI-E and 2 x (4 + 4) 8pin CPU.
If I understand correctly, then 2 connectors are still free. You need another 6 + 2pin PCI-E cable.
Perhaps it is universal, and it can be used from other broken power supplies. Such cables cost 7-10 dollars.

>> If I understand correctly, then 2 connectors are still free. You need another 6 + 2pin PCI-E cable.
trust me i got few cables lying around, just not sure how to know if it is universal or not !...

2 3080s with a 1000W PSU is close to the limit. If you can't get good quality cables it makes a big difference.
That includes the cables that connect directly to the PSU.

Don't consider splitting unless you have an 8 wire cable with 8 pins connected to the PSU. Many PSUs come with
a mix of cables with either 1x8 or 2x8 GPU connectors. You can convert a 1x8 to 2x8 with a good splitter.

Also depending on cable quality you can convert a Molex cable to 8 pin PCIe, preferably use a 2xMolex to 8 pin converter
and 2 seperate Molex cables to better distribute the load.

Whatever you do watch for signs of overheating of the cables or connectors.

ur mostly right 1000w is about the limit for 2x 3080s at 80% limit coz its a server board with 2x CPUs, RAM, SSD etc...

no way around it bro i cant source a good PSU here with plenty of cables, unless i go with the HP https://www.amazon.com.tr/DPS-1200FB-438202-002-440785-001-Ethereum-MADENC%C4%B0C%C4%B0/dp/B09378QX91/ref=sr_1_3?__mk_tr_TR=%C3%85M%C3%85%C5%BD%C3%95%C3%91&keywords=hp+psu&qid=1637615686&sr=8-3
the only one i had in my original post, but u said:
>> Don't consider splitting unless you have an 8 wire cable with 8 pins connected to the PSU. Many PSUs come with

i found out that 1000w PSU got 4x 8 pin connections, so i was planning to do it like this:
2x 8 pin VGA Cables/Connectors will go for 1st 3080 (this one needs only 2x 8pin)
1x 8 pin VGA Cable/Connector will go to 2nd 3080 (this one needs 3x 8pin sadly)
Now we r left with 2x 8pin ports unfulfilled on the 2nd 3080...

Will use One 6pin to dual 8pin splitter to convert last vga connector/cable for the 2nd 3080

good idea ?

sadlyill use all the molex cables to power the risers Sad

seriously that second 3080 with 3x 8pin is giving me trouble and the lack of good PSUs in this country !...

thanks,

Your question is about an altcoin gpu miner and this is btc mining hardware area. I asked mods to move it.

But what comes to your question,
a good sturdy psu would be:

1x HP DPS 1200 FB A  (max. 1200 W at 230V, or 900 W at 110V) server psu
1x HP common slot psu breakout board for 12x 6-pin
12x good quality (6+2) -pin pcie power cables
1x pico psu for motherboard powers

This setup was roughly what I used for my previous gpu miner I had back in the days.

Is this the only setup possible؟  I heard those hp psu are really loud …!

am having a bit of a dilemma here
am building my second mining rig currently having just 2x 3080s

one got dual 8 pin and the other card needs 3x 8 pin !

am having tough time where i live sourcing here in turkey a PSU with sufficient VGA Cables !! (ya ironically)

the best i could find is this and SEEMINGLY it got only 4x VGA Cables (8pin)
https://www.gamersarena.com.tr/powerboost-warrior-bst-atx1000gf1-1000w-80-gold-full-moduler-12cm-fanli-atx-psu-pmu792

i understand a 3080 draws 220w IF successfully downclocked, so does that mean using a 6pin splitter to dual 8pin splitter not an option ?

sadly i failed to find any GOOD 8 pin to dual 8 pin splitters here in turkey !...

any help appreciated i need this rig up and running ASAP !...

we are far from being in a bear phase i would say indeed that the bull phase continues in a great way the value of bitcoin continues to grow slowly, your cost of electricity is average so in my opinion you can safely continue to mine with nicehash you will surely be in profit

Thank you,,
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining with (((NICEHASH))) during the bear market on: October 29, 2021, 01:15:22 AM
Yes, here's my comment.

Why do you want to mine in the bear market and not right now? What's the difference? If the price rises, so does the difficulty. If the bears come, the difficulty drops. You're incentivized to mine based on the profit you can have, but long-term, it's the same translated into a fiat currency, whether you're in a bull or bear market.

Short-term, you should prefer mining in a bull market.

I said am going to CONTINUE mining in the upcoming bear and mentioned I got several cards so it makes sense AM ALREADY MINING DURING THIS BULL RUN !… Smiley
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining with (((NICEHASH))) during the bear market on: October 27, 2021, 06:09:45 PM
am sure someone somehwere asked this before, but am considering to continue mining during this next BEAR MARKET USING (((NICEHASH))) i currently have 5x 3070s and 2x 3080s and considering adding 10x more, I AM STRICTLY MINING WITH NICEHASH, my electric cost is approx 0.1$ kWh here in Turkey, do you guys think that NICEHASH is profitable to mine using in a Bear Market, i did that in the past with my 1080 Ti, just cant remember how much it got me between 1-3$/day, can someone comment on this ?...

114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what PSU can i use ? on: October 17, 2021, 10:48:19 AM
so its ok to use the Molex 4-pin cables to power the risers instead of 6-pin cables and reserve those for the cards only ?

Yes, its fine unless its a high power draw GPU ( in your case, the 3060ti's are safer to use with Molex powered risers than the 3070's, so use the 1 remaining pcie slot with a splitter to connect the two 3070 risers to them)

Quote
can i use the same cable strand for multiple risers or one riser per cable ?

When using molex and sata, use only one strand per riser ( even if the strand has 3-4 connectors )

Quote
finally i did the math for your last mentioned point: 5 cards x 135~w per card (of course they are power limited) = 675 W total | and 75w per riser x 5 risers = 375 W
total power needed 1050 W
are you saying i can Not use a 1000w PSU or even a 1050w PSU for 24x7 mining ??

Your math isnt entirely accurate, risers dont always consume 75w thats generally the rated maximum. Figure out a way to measure accurate total power consumption at the wall where you plug the psu in (buy a power meter or use an household appliance stabaliser etc) for accurate measurement, and decide on PSU wattage accordingly. For your 5 GPU's, the risers should be consuming no more than 35-40W each, so the total should be 280W max for the risers, and 675W for the GPUs, making the total 955W which is dangerously close to the PSU's limit, and will likely cause failure in a few days of running. Also remember PSU is rated at 1000W on 240v, on 120v it can only manage about 750W.

Quote
one last weird question, are other 4-pin Molex Cables from other PSUs exchangeable ? not sure about this PSU how many Molex CABLES it comes with TBH and i am extremely limited on my options here in Turkey:
https://www.sinerji.gen.tr/powerboost-1000w-warrior-80-gold-tam-moduler-guc-kaynagi-p-40405

No, every manufacturers cables may be different and its high risk. Stick to known brand PSU's like Corsair, EVGA, Antec, Coolermaster etc and make sure you get Gold rated or above. Thier product pages list all the cables they come with.

It’s funny ur saying that…

My previous psu been running for months with 1000w only 🤔🤔🤔

Sadly however this PSU got only one molex cable but 3x sata cables

https://cougargaming.com/products/psus/gex1050/

I know sata is usually not recommended but will I get away with them for my setup or I will burn or damage something t ??

But thanks for ur comments let me see how can I source a psu where u live…
115  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: what PSU can i use ? on: October 16, 2021, 10:30:35 PM
You would need to use 7 of the pcie ports just on the GPU's, so how are you powering the risers???
Splitters are fine to split ONE pcie port to two for connecting two risers to each, but anything more than that is begging for trouble.

Ideally you need to have enough pcie ports on the psu to power all GPUs and risers. In a pinch you can use molex powered risers, but do not use any molex-pcie adapters that come with risers, those are a fire hazard.
As a general rule of thumb, do not exceed 80% of the rated load on the PSU for long term operation, 75% if you dont have adequate cooling.

thank you

more like what PSU can i get away with ??

I have been using a premium 1000w PSU with 8x PCI-E ports

my rig consists of 5x risers (gpurisers.com)

3x 3060 Ti *single 8 pin*
2x 3070 *dual 8 pin*

my main worry is not the wattage
but the amount of PCI-E ports in the PSU to accommodate that many PCI-E Cables,

i admit i used all 8 PCI-E ports on that old PSU

and am using 5x PCI SPLITTERS due to the lack of pci-e interfaces

i was wondering can i get away powering on the risers with the 4-pin molex ports in stead of PCI-E to save on the PCI-E Cables and slots ?

i cant find many options of PSU (((WHERE I LIVE))) with 8 pin pci-e ports,

and is it fine to run that many cards on a single PSU (of course they are consuming less wattage than PSU power), some advised against that not sure why !...

plz any help truly appreciated as i must get a PSU ASAP !...

What would you choose for mining with NH the 3080 LHR or the 3090 ?
Any future proof decision (if any ?!)…

Of course considering the fact MSRP prices and the 3090 is DOUBLE the price of a 3080

Buy 3 6600 xt at 500 each or less if you can.

the problem am having i can NOT source a single graphics cards where am living right now (Turkey) as they are outrageously expensive ! i have one option only to get few cards from canada (through a friend) but buying 10x 6600 XT is not an easy option Cheesy

id prefer buying LESS cards with more hashrate, so should i get the 3090, 3080 ((LHR)) or 3080 Ti ((LHR)) ? what is my best bet here ? i cant find any 3080 Non-LHR !...

I bought this from new egg:
https://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails?ItemList=Combo.4345265

wondering did they fix the memory heating issues due to no thermal pads at the back ?

The type of memory these cards use tend to overheat easily if not taken care properly and the thermal pads are the same. The Rev 2.0 means it is a low hash rate card which means it can max do through NBminer which has unlocked these LHR cards to 68% which means the hash rate will be max 68 Mhsh compared to 100 Mhsh of the Rev 1.0 card which is non lite hash rate.Anyway still a great buy as you can mine ERGO and RVN with this card as the hash rate limiter is only for Ethash algorithm in Rev 2.0 while in Rev 3.0 everything is limited, every mining algorithm. It can work great as a gaming PC the combo that you have bought.

wow thanks for the valuable information !!! i have one hypothetical question though, if it can do max 68Mh (with nbminer) will it still over heat like the Non-LHR cards ??  Huh

i might install thermal pads to fix this card, but will i get away if i simply set the fan speed at higher speeds to avoid the hassle ??...

thanks,

I think that if you put the fan settings at 80-83% you should be Ok with this card as the cooling system of graphic cards has always improved and Rtx 3080 makes no difference. However check constantly the memory temperature which should not be higher than 100-104 degree celsius, not the actual GPU temperature as that should be always under 70 degree or max 70 degree if you are in a hot environment.I think you should be good to go with just setting the fan speed at the levels I said because I have seen a few friends who have 3 x of this GPU and they are running fine at 62-67 degree celsius with the fan set at 80% speed.

its funny since you mentioned this topic, i already have a rig of 2x 3070 / 3x 3060 Ti been mining for the past 6 months, i recently made a thread here on the forums, all cards are zotac (identical cards) and in open air setup (AC cooled in the same room) however the cards are on AUTO fan speed, i admit the backplace is extremely hot, and dont think i have memory sensor, however the GPUs are between 66-73 C for one card ! despite being on Auto fan profile, and fan speeds are going up to 83% some days, so should i worry since u said not to exceed 70c for GPU temp ??

and should i worry about the memory temps on those cards coz i have NO IDEA how hot they are !...

thanks,
