103  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New PPS bitcoin/litecoin pool at btcminerpool.com 1% bonus on: April 23, 2015, 11:26:54 AM
...
EDIT: I guess it all really does not matter for this pool as it looks to have already closed down?

I spotted the website down yesterday too, do you think they went PPSBust or simply turned off the 0.450THs

104  Economy / Services / Developer wanted on: April 23, 2015, 11:20:01 AM
Must have experience with a mix of node.js, twisted python, flask python, also redis and postgresql.

105  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New PPS bitcoin/litecoin pool at btcminerpool.com 1% bonus on: April 23, 2015, 02:58:32 AM
No.
Simple is PPLNS.
If you use Prop, it's easy to hop (at 43%) and make more BTC and everyone on the pool who doesn't hop loses BTC.
Go read up about it, don't guess, coz you're wrong.

Who's guessing anything, PROP=HOP everyone knows that. I just pointed out some benefits.

Yes and how many people have enough coin min 25+ BTC just with normal luck to make payouts till that first block is found plus overhead expenses? Maybe any new pool operators should think about escrowing coins to prove they can pay to be taken serious?

This is actually a good idea, in fact does any PPS pool ever do proof of reserves?

106  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New PPS bitcoin/litecoin pool at btcminerpool.com 1% bonus on: April 22, 2015, 11:35:57 PM
...
PROP methods on poolware have benefits, it's simply to understand and no operation risk.
The operator should of course find ways to be more effective with rewards when hashing increases.
...

No.

You don't see the benefit of a simple system that has little risk?
Don't get me wrong a standard implementation of a PROP is no good but it must be safer for operator and miners compared to a pool going bankrupt before it even starts.

107  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: New PPS bitcoin/litecoin pool at btcminerpool.com 1% bonus on: April 22, 2015, 12:53:26 PM
So OP claims PPS with a 1% bonus like BAN... Website states it is a 3% fee.  Brand new user.  Tell me OP... Do you happen to have 2500BTC in reserve to handle those guaranteed unlucky times?

Yes and how many people have enough coin min 25+ BTC just with normal luck to make payouts till that first block is found plus overhead expenses? Maybe any new pool operators should think about escrowing coins to prove they can pay to be taken serious?
Any operator who wants to run a PPS pool.  Honestly, I don't understand why any operator would even consider a PPS pool - the risks involved are all taken on by him.  I know I would not start such a pool, even if I did have an extra couple thousand BTC lying around the house.

That is because you understand it. It also seems with all these new pools that are sprouting up that they have no idea and have not researched it enough to know any better.
And that's the truth.  Half the new pool announcements are "Come mine with us we use PROP!!!"  Arghhh.  Pool operators can't even figure out how to run their own pools or won't even bother to do a single bit of research on it, yet they expect miners to trust them with BTC?

PROP methods on poolware have benefits, it's simply to understand and no operation risk.
The operator should of course find ways to be more effective with rewards when hashing increases.
As for PPS methods, definitely not for the small timer / novice.

108  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Can miners scam their pool? on: April 22, 2015, 12:33:48 PM
In a different scenario to the OP. One miner or a group could send garbage to the pool and cause a denial of service for other users.
Would the attacker be considered scamming the pool if they were leveraging accepted shares while others suffered?

109  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NastyPoP vs Standard P2Pool on: April 22, 2015, 12:14:26 PM
jonnybravo0311, just wanted to say thanks for maintaining this long running comparison. Great job.  Grin

110  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [New] [170GH Currently] DeltaPool Public - Prop / Block Rewards VARDIFF on: April 22, 2015, 12:09:50 PM
Hi Xan, I'm confused by a few things Huh

1) From the OP I clicked https://public.deltapool.net/ and it takes me to DragonWOW Forums. What's the connection?
Was it supposed to be https://forums.deltapool.net/ ? Maybe SSL error.

2) When I jumped back to https://deltapool.net the main page reads

"DeltaPool is currently a private ASIC mining pool, we will be accepting miners into the pool with a selection process on our forums"

But there isn't any threads in your forum relating to the selection process? Who qualifies?

111  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I am out of the mining game :( on: April 22, 2015, 07:08:39 AM
PoW is probably the most intensive and energy costly arrangement but I also see it as the simplest and therefore going to be around the longest.

112  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Official] Mintsy.co Thread **News, Updates, Information, Questions** on: April 21, 2015, 11:32:33 AM
So whatever happened to the $5k?

Also do you have a list of known working external pools? I'm seeing some widely varied results.

bump..

$5k probably went to Zhenya's $300k salary lol

But props to the Mintsy team the platform is looking good.

Also external pool redirections are probably being done via stratum's extranonce.subscription, this can be tricky if not implemented well.

113  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: where can i buy a Bitcoin miner on: April 21, 2015, 11:13:27 AM
Hashnest is legitimate cloud mining. Here is a photo of their farm:

. . .

 Shocked   mmm mining porn

If you're looking forward to being a nerd and playing with a new toy buy an Antminer and get tinkering.

Otherwise get on a hassle free Cloud/Rental service, your ROI is still slim but if you're allowed to redirect the hash to a solo pool you could take a risk and win big.

114  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Turning off miners on: April 21, 2015, 10:57:39 AM
The only time you should be turning your miners off is to power cycle them, lol.

Also, It's heading into winter here in Australia, so of cause we stacked a few s3's around the house to warm things up. BTC

115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin solo mining with cpu on: April 21, 2015, 10:48:01 AM
Grin cpu mining on bitcoin, this is a totally wasted gamble.. sell that junk old pc, rent a real miner and point it at ck's solo pool.

I'm in Australia and I've had problems connecting to the front end of antpool, f2pool, eligius.st and BAN.

Antpool claims to be under maintenance but I think their just suffering.

117  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: BITMAIN announces Antpool: Pushing forward Decentralization on: February 27, 2015, 07:58:51 PM
Under maintenance?

Are you sure you're not getting attacked.. I'm in Australia and I've had problems connecting to the front end of antpool, f2pool, eligius.st and BAN.

I know others have experienced problems, ref:

118  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [Official] Mintsy.co Thread **News, Updates, Information, Questions** on: February 26, 2015, 12:07:31 PM
As an enterprise miner I have the utmost confidence in digitalBTC they've been making lots a of smart moves since their inception. The Cryptsy team too, their exchange operations from verification to trading have been spot on for me.

But. I simply can't stand a typical sales/marketing ploy that involves advertising 6-10 months in advance, offering a cash price with no signs of payment and then dropping hints about beta tests when it all still seems very private, closed and probably still along way away.

It's nice to have read about the BetaRigs participation recently and I'm sure in the end Mintsy.co will be a great platform- provided the users don't accidently type .com every time.  Tongue

Can you provide us any more information?

119  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [1600Th]Ozcoin Pooled Mining |DGM 1%|Stratum+VarDiff port 80|NEW CN mining| on: February 26, 2015, 11:24:52 AM
you know whats a shame? graet missed from foruns e not communicatin

look at this, this is real shame.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=218324.0

I've not been involved with Graet.Loan but I'm familiar with it, any unregulated and unsecured debt is a risky investment. I still have hope for those that helped finance it.
Regarding Ozcoin, it's a shame it didn't last against the bigger pools and falling prices. From memory it had good market share for awhile.
Also with all the successful BTC startups come from Australia igot, coinjar and digitalbtc. I just figured Ozcoin, one of the oldest mining pools would still have had some following.

@HippieTech seriously? again?  Huh

He's the dank of the mining board.

Haha, double posts suck but I have to say the comment about 'his new Karples costume' gets me laughing again.
120  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question About How Coins are Mined on: February 25, 2015, 11:38:37 AM
This may be a dumb question, but if a new block is added to the block chain every 10 minutes, then this means that an award of 25 coins (currently) goes to whomever found the right hash. So, what happens next? If you have been working on a hash for the 10 minutes and you did not solve it, then essentially you start over with a new hash to solve, correct?

How are all the machines notified to stop working on the current block hash and then know what the contents are of the next block to solve? If all machines "reset" after 10 minutes, then I would imagine you must need some pretty damn fast processing to have a shot of winning any coin, correct?

Thanks for any clarifications to this.

- Joe

Block generation is a very clever thing. Transactions are broadcast to the network by the sender, and all peers trying to solve blocks collect the transaction records and add them to the block they're working to solve.
However, the individual miners may receive knowledge of transactions in different order, select transactions to include in blocks by different rules, or may not yet have received every transaction that is currently unconfirmed. Therefore, each miner has an individual subset of the same set of unconfirmed transactions.
Once a block is found, then ALL the peers get a notification that a new block was found and they add it to their respective chains. That is how all the peers stay synchronized on the same chain.
One thing not to get confused about is when a block is solved on the network pools/workers don't really "start over" they just start hashing different data. It also doesn't take a block being solved to change the data being hashed, for example, new transactions can trigger new work being sent to the miners.
