101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Encourage George Zimmerman (Florida self-defense shooting victim) to accept BTC on: April 10, 2012, 08:44:46 PM

We will never know all of the real story.  We do know that Travon was followed by a stranger with a gun going against the advice of the police.  Stand your ground does not apply.  It may be murder but without a question it is manslaughter.

If Zimmerman was at his house this would be all different, but he was not even walking around.  He got out of his car to pursue someone who he admitted 'looked out of place'.

+1.

By the way it would be a good opportunity to do this on #bitcoin-otc. I like the Web of Trust principle and I've always wanted to try it.

+1.  You should use people with a high rating on #otc.  They are sitting there waiting for your trades.

Also, your title is inaccurate.  Zimmerman was not the victim.  The unarmed kid he shot was.
106  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Encourage George Zimmerman (Florida self-defense shooting victim) to accept BTC on: April 10, 2012, 04:55:04 PM
Gross.  You want to help raise funds for the racist asshole who chased after a kid with a gun for wearing a hoodie?  The cops told him to stay inside, and he chased the kid.

George Zimmerman, who has a history of legal trouble, which his judge father kept him out of.

False portrayals in the media?  How the hell do you know?  Did you listen to the 911 tape?  Did you hear the story of the person who was talking on the phone with Trayvon just before he was murdered?  Why would Trayvon charge at someone with a gun?  Yeah, that is really the most plausible explanation Roll Eyes  Even if he did charge at him, Zimmerman unequivocally created the situation when he should not have, by chasing him down the street in a threatening manner.

Why the hell would you want to support this scumbag?
107  Economy / Securities / Re: (GLBSE) TyGrr-Bank 3% weekly dividends (2.5% starting April 3rd) on: April 10, 2012, 04:46:21 PM
It sounds like he has used funds from one asset to pay dividends on another.

Now, I think Goat is pretty trustworthy, and don't think he is deliberately misleading investors or trying to make a ponzi scheme. But mixing funds from multiple sources (that are separate) creates the slippery slope that can turn innocent accounting mistakes into the need to either use fraudulent accounting measures or fold.  I don't want to see that happen, so I hope Goat gets his books in order before it comes to that.

If he has a portfolio for one asset that contains the other, he needs to be managing dividend payments between assets just like dividends to investors.  Mixing funds creates a serious moral hazard.

110  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoinica Leverage on: April 07, 2012, 12:00:38 AM
I was thinking of depositing my funds in Bitconica and taking a leveraged position. The leverage I will use will be 1:10.

What are you high?

I have roughly 1,000 BTC that I am not doing anything with. This was acquired in 3 days through means I will not mention on the forum (rhymes with milktoad).

Oh, probably...
111  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Occulta Scamming? on: April 06, 2012, 11:55:58 PM

This is essentially my entire argument. No one cares where the cards came from. Occulta didnt want the competition so he forced a competitor out of the market by lying. Bitcoin is suppose to be the essence of a free market. This was anything but. Essentially you had a monopoly that didn't like the competition so he used his reputation to smear the new seller and force him out.

If that is your entire argument, you should edit your post title and cross your fingers you don't get banned.  "Not playing nice with competition" is not scamming.  You are being libelous and belligerent.  Revise your post to be accurate, or prepare to lose any credibility you may have.

113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Multi Million Dollar Bitcoin Receving Address. on: April 06, 2012, 08:39:31 PM
Yeah, I am pretty sure it's Deepbit's payout address.  Also, the numbers are inflated because receiving back change is counted as a deposit.

ex.

receive 10 - 10 received
send 1, receive 9 change - 19 received
send 1, receive 8 change - 27 received
... and so on.
114  Economy / Lending / Re: ISSUE WITH GOATS TYGRR-BANK BONDS. on: April 06, 2012, 08:14:21 PM

I have no stake in this discussion, but seeing as how this is pretty much the extent of the "contract", I would say hashking was reasonably justified in believing that we would receive the full 0.1BTC.  However, I am not familiar with GLBSE's interface (I find the design very hard to understand) but if it was clear at the time when he sold that he would not be getting the full amount, then I would say buyer beware.

Hashking, did you submit a market order?  Or, were you able to see the price that you would receive for your shares before submitting your order?

In GLBSE you must specify the price to buy or sell at, there is no instant buy or sell order, you have to specify the quantity and the price.

This means that HK looked at the buy orders that were there and put in .008 (or whatever the price was) and clicked sell.

There is no way for you to put in a sell order at 1.0 and the trade happen at less than that amount.

Thanks for clearing that up.  In that case I agree with the general consensus of this thread.

116  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] A public company will build a huge Bitcoin Mining Operation (ASIC). on: April 06, 2012, 06:21:47 PM
Yes, a 51% miner effectively has 100%. That is correct. That is why 51% is twice as profitable as 49%. Actually, more than twice as profitable in the medium to long-term, but I won't go into the details here. That is why it makes sense to perform a massive centralized investment like this to get 51%. Once you have it, you get all the coins and everyone else gives up. Winner take all.

Incorrect.  A 51% miner may choose to monopolize the blockchain, but they do not have to.   What you are speaking of as a certainty is only a possibility.
117  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] A public company will build a huge Bitcoin Mining Operation (ASIC). on: April 06, 2012, 06:18:27 PM
Vladimir - Are you and your associates willing to mine at above 51%?  Do you plan on maximizing profit or would you take measures to ensure confidence in the integrity of the network?

I have no reason to believe that we will ever be able to reach anywhere close to 50%. Even if we reach such capability (which is highly unlikely) it would be very unwise move for more than one reason.

Just check old ArtForz's posts on the matter (right about the time when he killed CPU miners, FPGA miners - take notice). It was discussed at length back than.

1. It makes no sense to have more than 50% and keep rising hashing capacity while being honest. Your machines will be simply driving difficulty up and competing with each other. Easier and cheaper to shut some down.

2. It makes no sense to have more than 50% and be dishonest as well for a variety of reasons, including ethical, public relations, investor relations, legal, long term profit.

You people give not enough credit to Bitcoin's design. It is much deeper than many get it.

My goal it so build a Bitcoin mining company that will be sustainable long term and that will continue ongoing investment into new technologies and new mining capacity, get listed, get optionable. I just cannot wait a moment when I can sell naked put and roll them perpetually (if allowed by law, damn insider trading thing).

It will be not so much a technological company but a financial one, more specifically an asset management company. There are plenty of examples in not Bitcoin world of companies that are being managed by a handful of professionals but have billions under management. Just check out biz models of companies like AYR and most REIT's and specifically O (my favourite, if I can I want to emulate their biz model, specifically stable monthly dividend and lack of leverage).

I respectfully suggest that many people here got it all wrong. This is not about killing Bitcoin and getting into 51% territory. Ask yourself why the hell would we want to become #1 target of guys with badges and guns? It is all about becoming the Bitcoin REIT and eventually being traded alongside of my darling O (Realty Income Corp. NYSE). My best estimate is that we will climb to 25-30% for a short period of time if we are lucky, just as I have done with GPU's at one point. History tends to repeat itself. I bet on it.

The FUD is being generated in this thread not by me, but perhaps by those who overextended themselves (we know who you are, lol) by buying FPGA's and now they are trying to pass their own fear to you. (do refer to my signature for legal disclaimer).

Thanks for the well thought out response and clarifications.  It is good to hear that your heart (and greed) is in the right place.

Would you be interested in codifying a provision into your bylaws which prevents you from rejecting valid blocks from other miners?  It would be easier for me to invest dollars if you made it an uphill battle for any future management to start monopolizing block production.
118  Economy / Lending / Re: ISSUE WITH GOATS TYGRR-BANK BONDS. on: April 06, 2012, 06:06:49 PM
Quote

Each bond will be sold at .103 BTC and will be bought back at any time at .1 BTC.

This spread is here because you do not need to hold the bond for a full week to get the dividend payment.

Thanks!

119  Economy / Securities / Re: (GLBSE) TyGrr-Bank 3% weekly dividends (2.5% starting April 3rd) on: April 06, 2012, 05:54:16 PM
Why is there more than one account anyway?

with each asset created there is a sub-account created to manage that asset.
that means you should see an account labeled BTC - this is your main user account
and accounts labeled as your assets. those are asset management accounts.

every account has a btc balance and potfolio (can trade shares, receive dividends and so on)
when you issue new shares, they appear in the asset management account and from there you can sell/transfer them etc.
and only shares outside the asset management account are entitled for dividends & can vote.
thus if you issued 1500 shares for tygrr mining and own part of it, make sure it is in your personal account.
switching between accounts is done in the portfolio page, by clicking on the account name ...

Are the funds of your different assets are mixed together?  Or do some of your assets have ownership stakes in other ones?  Seems like there is some mixing going on... :-/
