101  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [70 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: December 08, 2013, 05:11:23 PM
Again.  I've have a p2pool node that has been running for months not weeks.  I'm relating actual experience and evidence based on fact not theory.

You notice that you're not being paid enough, but you're not relating it to a probability of earning that amount in that time period. Unless you do that, how can you know whether PPLNS or p2Pool are broken? Your earnings may be quite possible, or even probable.

Probability has no bearing anymore when the reward system reduces my probability to 0 due to an arbitrary limit.  Again, one that does not exist in other PPLNS systems.  This is a fatal flaw.

Again. Paid enough is one thing.  Paid nothing is a whole other ball game.

Work effort expended with the majority of my miners and shares were found but p2pool gave me practically nothing in weeks.
BTC guild with a fraction of my GHs workers over the same time period gave me something. Supposedly p2pool had better luck in that time period and I ran this in parallel.

What would you do with that result after running a node for months and months?

I don't think you understand how this works (even though you say you do). You have a legitimate complaint but there are two things going on and I think you're confused:

1) Your probability isn't 0 because of an arbitrary limit. your probability isn't zero at all... And that limit exists in every PPLNS system (that is the "N" of PPLNs, it's the time limit). p2pooll's N isn't that bad, it's 3x the average time to block or 3 days, which ever is shorter. But I think your problem has nothing to do with the "N", but with the difficulty of "S"

2) You have a problem with the local share difficulty, which is a function of the overall p2pool hashrate. There are only 2880 p2pool shares a day, so if you don't have 1/2880 of the hashpower, you are not expected to find one a day. That's why your payout is 0 - you're just not finding shares because it's significantly harder than any other pool.

You can argue to make N larger, but I think it would be better for you to ask to make difficulty lower (ask larger miners to voluntarily increase their share difficulty so they find fewer, but higher valued, shares)

EDIT: The problem is with the ratio of N/SHARE_DIFFICULTY
BTCGuild: 250million per shift*10 shifts/1=2.5e9
P2pool: average_shares_to_block*3/Difficulty=   6814 /463000= 0.146

4. We have increased original forum share value from 1 to 100 ADDICTION shares. So for each original forum based share, you will be issued 100 ADDICTION shares.

according to this list I have 2500 addiction shares:
http://pastebin.com/NLg7Pe2t
you say I got 5000?

I'm saying your using the wrong link. You are probably GB2 or 3:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=255729

It is expected that the second batch will also run at 400GH which would mean for every share you'd receive 50 ADDICTION shares, regardless of the actual price at that time.
103  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [70 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: December 06, 2013, 02:44:05 PM
what is the meaning of choosing an amount to donate ? why cant it be same to all. i dont think 2 is too much, but theres some who pays nothing. i think you who ever you are forrestintv put it 1.5 for all. thats fair.

or put it 3 if you want, because this is very good pool - you can afford to do so.

there are other ways to donate to forrestv, some donate hardware, some make a lump donation - they don't want to pay a fee every share, necessarily. zvs used to have his default account be forrestv's donation address so any misconfigured miners just donated to him (and i think he put a donation % in addition to that)

others are just cheap and want to freeload.

in the end it's good "marketing" to say it's the theoretically best pool you can participate in, and any "fee" you pay is voluntary

I thought the direct from LR shares were 0.065?

I'm going to be offering these bonds at what I consider to be a large discount for what I have planned and charge 0.1BTC per bond.
105  Economy / Securities / Re: Official Labrat Mining (LRM) Share Trading Thread on: December 05, 2013, 02:43:01 PM
How is possible to sell shares at 0.1 while there are ask at 0.09 and 0.095?? I suppose someone contact directly with Lab_Rat, but to be fair at a normal market the ask of maqifrnswa and woeliewoelie should be executed before.
Regards

Yep, i'm going to buy more share but directly from LabRat.

This to help and push LRM project to success.

It's good for LabRat, good for me and good for all of us.

Game rules aren't like that.

Sorry but i buy at what price i want  Wink

Please show me the rules for this "game" ?  Roll Eyes

game theory
buying above market (1) hurts you by overpaying for shares, (2) helps everyone (including you) a little by increasing the total chip production, and (3) hurts everyone by diluting the shares. 1>2>3 (although i have a gut feeling that 1>3>2, but I have no evidence either way since no data is given). The marginal gain you get from choosing to buy at a higher price directly from LR is completely washed out by selling above market. However, since we have no specifics on financials, no one can price what that value is (and what the cross over point is).

but it is your choice, it's just very likely a non-optimal strategy (for you) to buy directly from LR, but all the other shareholders thank you for your generosity

edit: speaking of game theory

What is the ideal, target timetable to move the bonds?

Ideal in Bitcoin world is always yesterday, but a reasonable time-frame would be 2-3 weeks.

Arbitrage alert for LR:

You just created the hedge fund manager's dream and can make free money:
People are buying directly from you (no fee) for 0.1. On the market 664 bonds at less than 0.1.

Every time someone buys from your directly, you can turn around and buy on the market (no fee since you can authorize that). In the end you're getting free donations in exchange for nothing. It's only $7k, but it's a free $7k.

i just want to applaud the insane luck p2pool has had recently:

Pool Luck(?) (7 days, 30 days, 90 days): 190.6% 138.8% 123.7%

keep on sprinkling your miners with Holy water or whatever you're doing

you may want to update:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=328135.20

and also note that the current market value is ~0.0013/ADDICTION share which is 0.13 per miner share from your group buy (1 GB share = 100 Addiction shares)
111  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] - ADDICTION - KNCMiner - Now hashing at 14+TH! on: December 04, 2013, 01:30:09 PM
KnC sold $1 Million per hour for the first five hours the Neptune went on sale. Crazy.

That's > 1000 TH/s. The current network is 6000 TH/s. Nice chunk of hash.
112  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: December 03, 2013, 11:17:39 PM
The question wasn't "Did LR invest?"
The question was "How much did LR reinvest?" You imply that you have already reinvested it all. Did you take no fee? You should take a fee and have that built into your business plan.

I also hope that a business owner could go months without spending money they were bringing in if there were no good deals. Nearly every ASIC had a negative ROI, it would have been better to hold BTC than buy a miner. Spending money for the sake of building hashrate will kill good intentioned ventures.

You didn't read much of the thread if you're saying this. LabRat would never buy hardware without opportunity of ROI. He has access to deals unobtainable by mere mortals like us because he is buying in bulk, and he has stated so many times in this thread!

Thanks John, can you tell me about these deals he made? Point to one time he mentioned, in 110 pages of threads over 5 months, 1) GH/s/BTC, 2) what his fee is? (hint: you won't find it)

And if he has been so good at choosing positive ROI investments, how come shares lost 60% of their value since IPO? And if you think that it's just because bitfunder is closed, then there's a great deal for you to make lots of money over at:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=320578.160

Yes, everyone got screwed with ASICs (difficulty went faster than projected by nearly everyone, so almost no one got positive ROI and should have just kept their BTC in their wallet instead of investing). Even those with great deals got screwed. I don't blame LR for that, but I want to know that it won't happen again going forward. He doesn't have to disclose proprietary market models, but at least let us know he's thinking about them.

Part of the reason why we bought this GB is because the shares are exchangeable. You can "sell" these miners at any time by selling your shares, or you can "buy" whole miners by buying the shares. There doesn't even need to be a debate, tyrion and blastbob gave us a great mechanism for voting with your wallet.

it looks like you can buy/sell for ~0.0013/share. If you think we should sell miners, sell your shares. If you think it's a good deal, buy.

I HAVE ALREADY ASKED, WILL ASK AGAIN:
1)On what pool LRM is currently mining
2)What about merged mining?

new questions:
To date LRM have paid about 830 btc.
That mean about 276,66 went to LRM(25%)
Currently it mean that around 250k USD have been gone just from dividends.

LabRat;
3) How much from this 250k will go to HW reinvestment?

lol
you must be new here
The first rule of LRM is you do not ask any questions of LRM!

This is not Fight Club, you can ask questions.  I just may be a little too busy to answer at that exact moment.  But I do have a very simple answer for this.  Do you honestly believe a business owner would got months without using any of the funds they're bringing in... Those 276.66BTC aren't still sitting in my wallet or I'd have a little more to play with than I do at this moment.

Trust me though.  I have very great plans for LRM.

Also worth noting is that for merged mining, the pool needs to be modified to support it.  The pool operator may not be interested in doing so.

grnbrg.

So find one that does...
Or set up p2pool and do it yourself...
119  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: November 28, 2013, 10:12:32 PM

These aren't aimed toward your average individual... $10k buy in on 1 rig....

Is this code that it's aimed for... a mining farm?  Our mining farm?

The timing of LR's big surprise and the KNC announcement on the same day springs all sorts of conspiracy-mongering to mind.
But correlation does not mean causation.

It may have been one of the things I knew was going to happen today, but the news I got on the other front may be a bust.  Going to be another couple days to figure out what's going on, if we decide to go that route... I'm really hoping it works out though.

I like that LR is being picky, it's ok to sit on BTC until the right deal comes a long. Hope you get the right deal, but if you don't - walk away. If you play poker at a full table, you will have a losing hand 90% of the time - but you can still make money. Quick recognition of losing hands is a great business skill.
120  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] - ADDICTION - KNCMiner - Now hashing at 14+TH! on: November 26, 2013, 08:13:08 PM
Any interest in doing a group buy again on the new KNC Neptune?  Email just received today.

I don't see a price for the new 3Th/s machine but since we are previous buyers we have the opportunity to buy-in.

I'd be interested.

I don't really see the point of buying something that is a certain loss.

We did spend around 200.000$ at KnC and we have not been rewarded for that yet.

Agreed. Not wise with the rate still rising.
BTW, the price is $10K for 3TH to be delivered in Q1/Q2 2014. So say March 2014 as optimistic and you get no ROI the first year. You get 200% ROI the first year if the price of BTC increases at a 100% / month clip.  Not likely.

And, like Voodah wrote, if your ROI depends on the value of bitcoin rising - just buy bitcoins.
