Very exciting news!
102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Poll] Burnins BitFury miner on: August 30, 2013, 04:45:08 AM
Will the bitfury chip be 'enough' given the other chips coming out?
What are the numbers and when does the Bitfury become the next Avalon chip?

Be nice to know the rough timeframe on that to consider whether a Bitfury project is viable.
Check the power efficiency here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=281279.0.  The BitFury chip is well within the ballpark of the expected efficiency of future chips.  As for cost competitiveness ... who knows.  As far as I'm concerned, if a Bitfury based design will achieve a healthy positive ROI within a few months, there isn't much to worry about.

Full refund.

If I recall correctly, the fan on my KC705 was always running.  Perhaps yours isn't connected properly, a jumper is set incorrectly, or ... something else (I vaguely recall the FPGA being able to control it, but my firmware doesn't touch the fan).

Lookin' good; congrats!  The average should crawl to 400 MH/s over time.

The web interface opens ok however I cannot see KC705 in the list of workers.
It won't be automatically detected; did you add a worker instance for the KC705 using the web ui?

I just received my Kintex 7 Evaluation board, having a play around, I believe I managed to flash the KC705 project to the board. However I am unsure how to connect this with CGMiner or any other mining software.
First thing you'll want to do is make sure the KC705's UART-USB is connected to your computer.  Open its com port, 115200 baud, and make sure you see hex values being dumped out at a regular interval (4 seconds).  Those are temperature readings coming from the firmware.

Once that's good, you can get a modified MPBM up and running to mine using the KC705.  goxed made a quick checklist to follow.

Yeah, it's not well documented; sorry about that.

without you guys I would have not taken to fpga anywhere near as fast
You are most welcome, BlueDragon747.  I am glad to see that the project has helped you taste the wonders of FPGA development Smiley

On a related note, I've been tossing around the idea of buying a DE0-Nano board for myself, and developing a well documented subset of the code, and tutorial around it.  The tutorial would be aimed at teaching the basics of the Bitcoin mining algorithm, and implementation on FPGAs.  Since the DE0-Nano is cheap, I think it would make a great starter project for anyone new to FPGAs.

I've been tossing the idea around, because profitable FPGA based mining is more-or-less dead.  But I would like this project to remain a healthy source of knowledge and inspiration for others.

Looking at the test data from their previous update, they're getting 22 GH/s per card.  That's 242 GH/s with 11 cards; matches up perfectly with the double unit.  Looks like us single unit guys will luck out.  They'll need to use 6 cards, which is 132 GH/s  Cool

Lastly, I'm still not clear on the PC connection type. What we can see in picture #72 on the bottom right is a Raspberri Pi, and those have both USB and Ethernet connections, but not sure which one(s) the software will support. In Picture#73, I don't see any cables coming out of the Ethernet port, so not sure if this unit was even plugged in or what.
I can't imagine they're going to connect to a PC.  As far as I'm aware, the only working mining code for Bitfury chips is in a fork of cgminer, built specifically for the RasPi.  I'm sure they're using that, and thus these units are self contained, and will only require ethernet.

Great work, metabank!

The last picture of Metabank's proto PCB had white soldermask ... so, who knows.  Whatever it is, I want it Tongue

It looks like those boards are hard soldered to the "master board".
Looks sockets to me.

This ultimatum seems a bit late Tongue  These chips converted into BitBurners hit negative ROI ages ago.  But that's just how it is in the mining game.

At least the work done by zefir and burnin has been very professional.

I haven't modded my batch 2 avalon and have had it mostly on --avalon-auto.  Seeing match_work_count3 > 0 gives me some hope.  Anyone have any ideas on this?  Currently on firmware 20130818.
Have you double checked all of the connections inside your Avalon unit?  Usually 0 or low match_work_counts are due to a bad data or power connection.

Found a pillow replica of the case
Except the PSU wires will be strung through the mouth, so it will look like it's throwing up a rainbow.

The FUD in this thread is astounding.

KNC, thanks for the update; it's nice to see things coming along.

Has anything shipped?  I never got a tracking number.

EDIT: Looks like it shipped today; just got tracking.
