never saw that ether 1 or 2 gig only
102  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970s + PCI-e cable risers = trouble on: April 12, 2013, 02:25:14 PM
there is a tread that tell's you how to make your own powered riser by addind a molex. Grin
103  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x7950 and a 1200W PSU - But how to connect them? on: April 11, 2013, 10:46:20 PM
litecoin need more power because it uses memory, but bitcoin uses no memory so you need less power.

IMO you never have to much power  Grin

Been looking at different 7950 cards on ebuyer and I've found this one: http://www.ebuyer.com/454252-sapphire-hd-7950-boost-3gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-hdmi-displayport-pci-e-graphics-11196-19-20g

Will I be alright with this one, or do you guys recommend a different 7950?it's a boost edition and has 2 fans not a bad find, Grin
105  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: a bit of a panic need help with card placement on the mobo/case on: April 11, 2013, 10:31:04 PM
Drg you said elsewhere that more then 3 7970 will fry the pcie*16 power pins. So he will need at least 1 Power riser no for 4 cards ?
106  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Help me build my 1st rig! $4k budget. on: April 11, 2013, 10:04:02 PM
I've been handed $4,000 and asked to build a mining rig. If you had to spend somebody elses money to build a rig, and share 50% of the profits for your time, and not have to worry about power, what would you build? I like shopping on newegg, but I always check amazon and other places for a better deal.

I really wanted to get a butterfly labs 50 GH/s asic miner, but I'm not about to fork over somebody elses money and say we'll get the product in a year, if at all.
spend 2000 for gpu rig and 2000 on bfl

Do I go for 7970, or a 7950 GPU? Do I put 3 GPU's on a single motherboard, or build 3 single GPU miners? 3 7950 cards [on one mobo to reduce the price of the over head cheap ram and cpu/color]
I know the CPU and memory aren't important, as a celeron will work just fine on 2 gigs of memory.

I'm mainly looking for advise on the GPU, motherboard, Power and what OS to run it on (win or linux?)7950 gigabyte with 3 fans they are great, open air case with riser, mobo with 3 pcie*16 and the pcie*1 to expand later, linux is a bit more performan but much more complicated then Windows

Thanks! Grin

what you really need are risers to be able to use your 1X pci-e to connect with your cards on an open case .

look at the minirig picture tread

What do you think about this system ? First i will start with 1 GPU, planning to run on 3.

Video card :

Motherboard :

CPU:

RAM :

salut

Grin

Hey everyone, I've recently stumbled upon the emerging cryptocurrency phenomenon and I'm interested in investing around $500 on a basic mining setup. I currently have a MacBook Pro which from my understanding is unfit for mining.you are rigth

I'm planning on purchasing an extremely basic computer/OS (Inspiron 660s, Windows 8?) and installing a decent graphics card. I have basically zero technical skills as of now so building my own setup isn't really an option.

I have a few questions:

1. Does the OS matter at all? linux is a bit faster then windows but much more complicated

2. Is memory important at all for mining? not for btc you for LTC

3. Is hard drive a factor to consider?no

4. I've heard a lot about overheating. Is buying a case the best solution for this, or should I consider computers with superior cooling abilities to the Inspiron 660s? (I don't know if there's a quantitative measure for cooling capacity) run open case with an externor fan toward it, DOES DELL sell high end graphic card cheap ?

Any help or responses to all or any of my questions would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to soak up as much knowledge as possible at this stage. search for the tread of the 10$ case  Grin

Thanks!

before spending 2000$ on someone's idea, just do your home work, and read the tons of threads on mining rigs; and finish with a search for the 10$ crate case ring and guiminer scrypt or bitminter.com Grin

113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Building a BitCoin Mining Rig on: April 10, 2013, 01:37:27 PM
Nobody is replying because there is no answer to that question.
There are 3 companies that make ASIC's for Bitcoin mining

Avalon - SOLD OUT batches 1, 2 & 3 - This means that you can't buy one until they decide to make more
ASIC Miner - Mining with their equipment, not selling it - This also means that you can't buy one
BFL - Taking their sweet ass time - You can buy one, but have to wait in line for it with the 1,000's of other people that have pre-ordered

Those are your current choices.

EDIT - You can't build your own ASIC rig either

So, if I cannot build an ASIC miner on my own, there is anybody who knows if some of those three companies is looking for funding to get a bigger production? Undecided they have all the money they need, it's just time that they need

BFL waiting line is 4 months or more? Huhyes and people have been waiting in line since june 2012

Greetings!

so gamble on buying BTC directly or mining with GPU for a few months

116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Importance of GPU RAM for Litecoin Mining on: April 09, 2013, 11:53:22 PM
Still not sure if this question has been answered. Can a 6GB card outperform a 3GB card if core, mem and voltage are identical? If so, by how much?

a 7990 with 6 gig is double the speed of a 7970 with 3 GIG (also 1 GPU instead of 2  Grin) bad exemple.

2 gig 7870 or 1 gig 7870 is a better question, don't know the answer
117  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Mining Rig Help/Advice on: April 09, 2013, 11:49:00 PM
the less price for the the most MHZ OC model or boost . Grin

As I said before
when many graphics cards use riser and no case

no case : 2 or 3 fan model or
a case with lots of fans : standart reference model 1 fan that blows the heat outside
118  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Quad 7970 recommended PSU size on: April 09, 2013, 11:42:51 PM
4x250W TDP = 1000W, + 150W for the cpu, ram, hdd, etc.
119  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 2x7950 and a 1200W PSU - But how to connect them? on: April 09, 2013, 11:39:43 PM
they (the 2* 6 pins) can come from any source, the same cable is ok, even 2 molex adapter,  anyway 1200W is overkill.

120  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Casual Miner Setup Question on: April 09, 2013, 11:37:11 PM
your mobo has 2 slots 16 bits so you're ok for 2 video cards.

yes you can mine with just one card.

for BTC and even LTC 4 GIG is on windows 7 32 bits is fine but limit.

PS is ok, but old.

Everything is fine just keep the cost down and run as is. Grin

PS bitminter.com  is the eseayest pool/miner
