Hm. Looks that way. Or m$ screwed somewhere ; ) Also, you can find driver version using GPU-Z. GPU-Z "driver version" corresponds to m$ "Version" and to "DriverVer" in .inf file. ;----------------------------------------------- ;----------1404221723-14.10.1006-140417a-171099C ; AMD display information file ; ; Installation INF for the AMD display driver. ; Copyright(C) AMD 2007-2013 ;----------------------------------------------- ; PX - PX Proxy mode ; PR - PX Proxy Ready

As for AMD, in 8/8.1 if you installed Microsoft driver(from auto-update) not AMD(downloaded from amd.com etc) - then more cards were working. Basically M$ driver had my mod embedded ; ) But not all of it. In w10.. imo a lot of things have changed. Also AMD removed Catalyst. Actually, the whole idea of the mod grew from this post - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=193695.msg2536323#msg2536323Anyway, there were no limits hardcoded or stuff like this - just the driver and it's configuration were not tested properly on 6+ GPU setups. Imo since nVidia launched Grid, they did test on 'a lot of GPUs' systems and AMD didn't. In the Windows 8/8.1, the auto update driver, which version is that? Is that version good for Ethereum mining? http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Search.aspx?q=amd%20r9%20290

I have a gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 R5 and is running 2 graphic cards on the board in the pcies x16 The mobo has 4 pcies 16x and 2 pcies x1 ... When i try to add a usb x1 pcie riser the pc does not work ,,, Windows 8.1 recognize the usb X1 to X16 pcie riser but when you plug a gpu on the riser is not working ,,,, also i tried the trick with the cable A1, B17 ... https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=36061.120 and it got stuck the bios and i had to remove the mobo battery for a while .. Also when I place the usb X1 riser in a motherboard X16 pcie slot again is not working ..... should i try risers with flat cable ? 16x to 16x and 1x to 16x ? If you have any suggestion let me know .... I'm running 1x7950+5x290 on 990fxa-ud3 R3 right now. I was running 6x290 on it also. Using x16_x1 powered risers(flat). Without PCIe precence short(A1, B17). Motherboard is picky about primary GPU - the monitor must be attached to the GPU selected in BIOS. Also to run headless "full screen logo show" must be enabled in BIOS. And try setting PCIe to 1.1 speed in BIOS.

EDIT!
It seems to work now.
But Radeon-Crimson-15.12-With-DOTNet45-Win7-64Bit doesn't seem to work
Only AMD-Catalyst-15.7.1-With-DOTNet45-Win7-64bit on both rigs works right away.
Well.. I've tested 15.12 on 1x7950 + 5x290 and it does work for me. Maybe you want to try cleanup first - removing driver completely etc.

..bundled amdocl dll's..
Sadly bungling OCL does not always work. In the worst case(that I've seen) OCL falies to init at all on certain driver versions. Tho, I've not tried copying not only OCL libraries but something else also.

i use Microsoft's own RDP to access my mining pc
m$ RDP uses its own video driver, so ADL(AMD monitoring and more part of the driver) stops working. Use VNC. f.e. UltraVNC + DSM plugin. Or TeamViewer. Or RDP to new session(not console where sgminer should be running) and watch logs etc. Also at least on W2k8 r2, when screen save+turn display off+lock - temps/freq/etc stop working, prly for the same reason - miner session disconnecting from the console. To connect to console use /admin or /console(deprecated, XP, 2k3) option when launching mstsc.

Hi guys need help on a rig i have 1x R9 280x and 3x 750 Ti how can i mine with R9 with sgminer because i get error the ccminer for nvidia work perfect.
Any sugestions?
Thx in advance
1) Ensure that all cards work - GPU-Z/Device Manager/AfterBurner 2) Start miner on AMD GPU only, use --gpu-platform. If it won't work at all - re-install AMD drivers. If it will work but won't display temp/speeds or enter "3d mode" when mining - you need dummy plug. R9 290x can use simple DVI dummy with resistors. Or you can plug monitor in it. nvidia and amd use two different drivers to access the cards in the system ...
you cannot mix and match them ... at least not from a 'standard' point of view ...
Yeah.. right..

I'm mining now at 7.25Mhs for my 280x's on the newer bin. Only problem is there is no temperature monitoring displaying in the miner.
Any solution? Win 7 64 with 15.7 drivers
1) Use VNC or TV instead of Remote Desktop 2) Something is wrong with the drivers

honestly you may not get much better than the work Wolf has done with these until new generations of cards come out with more ram.... I don't know how you guys keep beating the "moar RAM is better" horse. This tale comes from scrypt/scrypt-n/scrypt-jane age. Not only those algos can use a lot of GPU RAM, but also AMD driver(Win) had issues initializing kernels with high enough TC on systems with low enough system RAM. If i remember correctly 8GB was required for 6x290 with 32768 TC. Tho, even then, running 6x7960 with TC 8192 was working fine on 2GB/4GB rigs. As a start, do you have an idea of how much RAM hashing algorithms consumes? X11 has basically no memory requirement; it takes more or less as a couple of (diffuse) textures from an AAA video game. A couple of them.
True that. X11/X13/X15/Quark/Qubit work fine on 5x290+1x7950 rig with 2GB of RAM.

I don't no what was the key to success but it works )))
sgminer.exe -c quark.conf --gpu-reorder --gpu-platform 1 --remove-disabled

how much should speed 290 in quark?
12.4@900/1250

ive worked in datacenters where some of the systems were still running xp ... but they were doing 1 or 2 things that required little effort from a server ... Oo oO This is fun ; ) Let's not start another linux vs win OT. I know by experience that it's pointless, it's like android vs iphone ;-)
Planes running Java with GC kicking in at any time.. *nix vs win, opensource vs prop., .net vs java is so much fun ; )
|
|
|
In the datacenter we are decomissioning, we have several Windows 2000 servers still left in operation, at least one of which was actually installed in 2000. It's running IIS and custom web packages, and was still in use as of last month. Any OS can be stable
Live atm. C:\>systeminfo | find /i "install date" Original Install Date: 11.08.2009, 14:33:04 In operation much earlier, but was only partially restored(on clean install) from catastrophic HDD failure. 2k3 - DC, TFS, IIS/Apache, SMTP, DNS, MS/My SQL, RDP, multihomed 3x. Tho.. ofc.. if u have hands growing out of the ass u can screw up even iOS.

the manufacturers develop windows based drivers first THEN port ( linux / osx ) - as far as i know ...
What's even more troubling is that they(AMD) apparently use different compilation time optimizations. I've looked at driver part disassembly from *nix and win and in my case win driver clearly was much more optimized - some useless IFs were not present and some calculations were done compile-time. It looked like -O0 on *nix. Weird. This is ridiculous even for me(I do prefer win if I have a choice).

With the real sgminer i hit 4.6Mh/s and with that strange "sgminer-with-optimized-quark-and-qubit-kernels" i can not even score a little 1Mh/s.
The results are real. I also got bad results with 14.6, but decided to try with 15.4 beta, and confirm the results. without much effort 280x 10,1 m gpu/mem 1050/1500 -g 1 -w 64 -X 64 Works with Hawaii also. And on *nix.
