1001  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin segwit2x on: November 17, 2017, 03:35:59 PM
For this fork to happen one person would have to run the wallet that got released by segwit2x people, and mine the necessary block that activates the fork.

On a difficulty of some petahashes, so ... unlikely. Oh statistically just a single CPU mining has a chance of discovering a new block, but that would not be sufficient. Would require a second block, and a third, and up until there even the biggest luck should be all used up.

That would be the rogue approach. All the official supporters abandoned the fork days (or weeks?) ago, so bitcoin is safe today.
1002  Economy / Economics / Re: How would Mt.Gox Bitcoins enter the market? on: November 16, 2017, 01:06:27 PM
I read in the news that given the current value of the Bitcoin and maybe other coins under hold by the power of the court, Mt.Gox is now very solvent and maybe if given permission it can start doing business again. And since it is based in Japan, then it might not have no problem with the authorities. It would indeed be a good development to see it back in operation again. I believe that the people behind Mt.Gox deserves the second chance if they would be asking for it.
According to those BTC-e investigations the event has been an inside job. That brought three bearish trading years upon us.
One would have to be hand picking the right subset from former employes, never really assured not to move the new incarnation into the very same misery, again.
1003  Economy / Economics / How would Mt.Gox Bitcoins enter the market? on: November 15, 2017, 11:32:54 AM
How would Mt.Gox Bitcoins enter the market?
About 202,185 BTC. Possible effects?
Quote
My assumption: These funds cannot enter the markets as a single huuge dump, because they do not belong to a single entity. Just that depends upon these people getting refunded their own bitcoins, and there is the mood point. Regular old bankruptcy system seems broken in those regards.

And I beg to differ on "suffered the fate of all bitcoin exchanges, and had its bitcoins stolen" since that's not the norm, he cannot state it like that. Many cold store wallets are pretty safe!

If the calculations from The Wall Street Journal are true, Mt.Gox could be back into bussiness again?
1004  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA is the next big thing on: November 13, 2017, 07:59:55 PM

OKEx has a nice volume of 200 million USD daily.
When China returns into the crypto game it will rise for sure. Also they only have few coins, adding IOTA is a kind of further validation.

David Sonstebo, the founder of IOTA said that all this good news arising now are just 10% of what they are going to announce in 2017!
So I am really looking forward to see what comes next. Hodling!

You meant 2018 ? Since 2017 is mostly over.
1005  Economy / Speculation / Re: Btc down, everything down... on: November 11, 2017, 01:18:28 AM
I dont care much bout btc goin down, cause i see that reason. The support lies around 6200 now.

What annoys me, is that the alts allways go with it. Mostly all of them. I cant stand it. Why is it so related. Why cant they be fn independant of btc.
IOTA moved against that day ago, but got caught in the overall market sentiment. Alts arent solitudes, they are crypto.

$6200 has been 10/21 pike, I am more looking at the 9/02 former ATH since we never dived below that, should be the harder floor.
Depends upon delivery of Lightning. The sooner, the better.
1006  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is Lisk the next ethereum? on: November 11, 2017, 12:57:17 AM
Someone I know told me Lisk could be the next ethereum. What do you think?
No.

Because they will rebrand before trying that Cheesy It's not Lisk, it's "unknown" that will try to walk that path.
However Lisk would need a major Ethereum hiccup to succeed. And what if another project like IOTA manages to put solicity based smart contracts on their version of a blockchain? They are allready trying just that.
1007  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA is the next big thing on: November 10, 2017, 02:53:43 PM
Sensors? It's software, there are no sensors. I suggest you research your fud.
No they do exists, an old approach has been weather stations connected to the BOINC network and GRC Gridcoin laying on top of that, adding a sort of data economy that never took of. The idea has been incentivising people into setting up these things, or getting the technology enthusiast who volunteered for BOINC interested in crypto economy.
You would have to add IoT buzz for that to work out.
It is possible to monetize sensory data, like any data, some people are even collecting your mouseclicks (google, adsense) to generate value from that. But the more usefull sensor data usually is recipient of a subsidy.

"Tangle" doesn't work, which is why it has to be centralized.  The entire concept of crypto currency was to eliminate the central control.

But I'm more concerned with the fact the devs wrote their own broken crypto, deployed it, and then when called on it pretended that they did it on purpose to break anything that copied from them.  That's in direct violation of the spirit of the open source movement from day 1.  Also they had to write a whole new number system because apparently they think binary isn't good enough.  That's rock bottom stupid.

There's no anger here, merely analysis.

Oh, and "scales and feeless", if it were true, is not a blockchain use case.  The concept of putting the IOT on a blockchain is pants on head idiotic.

You are historically mistaken there, let us have a look back into 1958
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trinary
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Setun
For a timespan of 6 years that has been Super Computing state of the art. Not a new homebaken solution.
And the devs are releasing their source, take a look at https://github.com/iotaledger/

However the centralized accusations are spot on. I doubt they can now get exchanges for their project once they had proven to be able taking IOTA out of people's wallets. No exchange can take on a risk like that.
1008  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: is it better to invest in bitcoin or ethereum ? on: November 10, 2017, 04:07:48 AM
Well for me investing in bitcoin is much better than investing in ethereum, bitcoin has been around for so long and bitcoin has many users world wide while ethereum users arent that high and bitcoin has been accepted by many companies around the world.
Especially in regards of this recent epic messup, ETHs Parity Wallet, there had been millions of ICO funds just gotten frozen!
Bitcoin in the meantime runs without any flaws. The fork got cancelled.

But markets dont care. Why?!
Probably because of Ethereum foundation funds supporting their charts. Or by rule of thumb "frozen funds == reduction of supply" in a strange way. Unforseen price discovery.
1009  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Must Crash - $7500 Is The Peak on: November 09, 2017, 10:32:40 PM

Of course not. It's the same distribution mechanics of knowledge, commitment and maybe some luck again. Who doesn't own fiat does not buy bitcoin.
Obtaining production capacity for manufactoring, or for mining bitcoins comes hardly any different.

The differences and most of the idealism had been present at the start merely.
1010  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Must Crash - $7500 Is The Peak on: November 09, 2017, 06:11:33 PM
This current rally is the same as the one in 2013, the only difference is the scale:

The current rally is an exponential rise.
All financial markets that rise exponentially will crash - even for the best of investment medium. It is almost a law of nature, just like the law of large numbers and the return to the norm.

Without the cancellation this fork rally would have superseeded $9000 with ease. Just some days been missing.

I do wonder if there had been insider news out there, since the S2X futures had been trading on extremely low volume. Merely because only obscure sites offering them? Or ... knowledge before the event?
1011  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] KRAKEN.COM - Exchange with USD EUR GBP JPY CAD BTC LTC XRP NMC XDG STR ETH on: November 09, 2017, 04:13:22 PM
I got over $400,000 used in marin with a $9,000 profit. Yet I can't connect to the site to close my position...
About trades with leverage there are small signs popping up that Kraken might face a class action lawsuit from disgruntled users.
I would not participate into such something, but I didn't got burned that hefty. Just withdrawn everything, letting Kraken rest in peace.
1012  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waves will kill Ethereum? on: November 09, 2017, 03:27:59 PM
Nothing will kill ethereum... a product can have a good role in the competition against ethereum or allow the work with solidity dAPPS on it..

Only Ethereum can kill Ethereum, and it's in the process of doing just that right now.
https://www.coindesk.com/ico-funds-among-millions-frozen-parity-wallets/

The Polkadot ICO has to struggle for survival. Roundabout 151 ICOs affected.
On Iconomy's statement regarding customer funds not affected, *only* company assets ... that
seems hard to believe, this preciese separation exactly along that thin line.
1013  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to start investing with 1$? on: November 09, 2017, 02:23:24 PM
Dogecoin. you can learn how to trade, then micro trading /10 trades in 2 minutes)  and at last margin trading.
actually, Dogecoin is also difficult to try. because people will buy big amount of dogecoin and sell it when the price is increasing even just 1 or 2 point.
and when the price is increasing, you get nothing cause you don't get the coin to be sold.
Good observation! The probability to get a trade depends upon own weight versus orderbook depths.

He could try DOCE/LTC markets on Cryptopia, those are pretty threadbare.
Or relocate to CoinGather or BitGrail if no affinity of switching for LTC exists. Personal decisions.
1014  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: B2X Futures on: November 09, 2017, 02:42:04 AM
Anyway what I'm saying, is it not smart to hedge your best for the incoming fork and at least diversify and pick up some B2X futures?

As a hedge acceptable. Your biggest risk would be no fork taking place, rendering those futures into past tense and therefor a total loss.

The fork still got signalled inside new blocks but is not needed anymore from a technical viewpoint. There is a big blocks chain in existance. Those 2mb don't change much if segwit adoption grows.
However it is to fear that the NYA signees feel themselves bound to the agreement, loyality, 95% consensus. Would calculate the risk of this fork taking place >80% still.

So no fork, and B2X futures falling from the sky. It seems their value only approaches zero, but doesn't hit zero since people need them to check out their splitted BTC. All that splitting into tokens for some unsecure future seems a bussiness to stricktly avoid.
1015  Economy / Economics / Re: BTC is a roller coaster on: November 08, 2017, 10:55:42 PM
The rising and falling bitcoin prices do make the heart beat fast and similar to the roller coaster, but for most people this is profitable because it is very good for daily trading, if someday bitcoin marketcap has been enlarged then the price can be stable.
Thats why people just doing this, cause making money on this type of market is the best option for patient and expierienced people in crypto.
At least they did not sawed off the foundation pillars supporting the rails.

This forkonado had made me fear for the worst. Hasty software commits'n'changes, drastical moves in the mining landscape.
For a long term prosperity we definitely need slow waters as in stability.
1016  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Newbie question on Kraken on: November 08, 2017, 06:43:13 PM
Hi all,
I've loaded an amount in BCH on Kraken, I've 2 questions:

If I want to convert all of it in another currency, ie. BTC or ETH and then make a cash out, how can I do it?

If I want to trade a pair not linked with BCH for example BTC/ETH can I do it or I have to buy BTC first? Or is it automatic?

Thanks a lot.
This is not related to Currency Exchange better you go to Kracken official thread which is available in Service Discussion Exchanges hope they will give you all answers with details now Move this to related section good luck
He arrived at the right place now.

The current situation on Kraken, today 11/8 looks like the following: API seems to be workable, but webpage throwing lots of 504 errors.
Better hurry up doing your conversion! They announced (well, vaguely) upping their backend because of these issues. Means "possible downtime for days" soon.

Always use BTC as a base currency for reaching Ethereum or other alts.
You could try Poloniex, they got side markets based upon other currencies.
1017  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Waves will kill Ethereum? on: November 08, 2017, 06:05:34 PM
Only Ethereum can kill Tezos. Maybe It's just 2-3 years later.
That Tezos couple is an interesting one, more to read about at https://techcrunch.com/2017/07/12/behind-the-scenes-with-tezos-a-new-blockchain-upstart/

They explain in the end how that name come up. Algorithmic decision based upon available namespace and dictionary!

When we were coming up with the name Arthur wanted an original .com so he wrote an algorithm to find an unclaimed .com that was pronounceable in English. Apparently it’s slang in Colombian teenager speak on Twitter for “expert.” So that’s a massive freebie.
1018  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC can reach 8000USD or not? (Share your opinion) on: November 08, 2017, 05:54:21 PM
BTC can reach 8000USD or not? (Share your opinion)

How do you think about that?

BTC will have a Hard Fork but Now BTC doesn`t have a power.

Reach more than 8000USD within Hard Fork or not?

I think it can reach the 8000 USD ATH before the fork. Then there will be a buyout from BTC and it go´s down (not much) but it will.

In my opinion the question slacked on mentioning a timeframe!
$8000 when? Arriving at Christmas most likely.
I'm mostly along the moods mentioned by above posters. The fork is a major event not to be underestimated. A correction incoming. But a retreat at 50% Fibonacci level would surprise even me. Leveraged shorts in a high volatile market equal suicide.
End of year above $8000 are kinda set.
1019  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: How to start investing with 1$? on: November 08, 2017, 03:37:02 PM

there are coins like bytecoin which is less than a cent. https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bytecoin-bcn/
one thing thats crazy about this coin is that its heavily traded, i don't really know how they were very much liked by traders but its kinda like cheap dogecoin.
DOGE been a copy of LTC, Bytecoin was the original codebase for todays Monero.
There had been issues surrounding Bytecoins former past, particularily premining related. Hence the continous decay on their charts.
I agree spread trading on low value coins can be helpfull on a little single dollar.

But honestly, if he does a tenfold with that ending on ten dollars the self suicide probability increases drastically. Better taking $100 and trying to create $1000 from that instead.

Will it kill Ethereum?
That is Devops199's job, waves is not participating
