1001  Economy / Economics / Re: House to consider stopgap funding measure today to avert government shutdown on: November 18, 2023, 05:53:27 AM
seems like it should be illegal but i guess when you are president you can do anything you want to with no checks and balances. i hope the people that voted for biden vote for him again because they got what they wanted.

I wonder how long until Americans start voting republican.
This problem is beyond this party or that party, it is a fundamental problem with the long term policies of the US regime. If you look at the debt chart over the years, it has been constantly rising and there are always jumps in the chart whenever the regime starts a new war.

For example from 1995 to 2000 the US national debt is in $5 trillion territory with not much rise but in early 2000 as Bush (a republican) starts his wars the US national debt doubles in a little more than 5 years and before his term ends in 2009 he has successfully brought the debt to $12 trillion.
After that Obama came and was both caught in the ditch Bush had dug for him and the holes he dug himself with the money he spend supporting ISIS he brought US debt from $12 to about $20 trillion.
Then an idiot came along called Trump who had no understanding of anything and dug those holes deeper and in only 4 years he brought the US debt from $20 to $28 Cheesy
And of course the senile Joe who is in all those holes his predecessors had dug and new holes he keeps digging so this is where we are today.

The worst part is that on one hand they can not change these policies because the artificial country called United States has been built on wars, invasion, resource theft, colonization and mayhem. The day a POTUS stops overseas killing for resources is the day US ends.
On the other hand US can no longer keep the overseas "adventures" up anymore because it is no longer post world war time where other countries are either weak or destroyed so US can come and steal their everything.
Look at the recent news of the past 5 years for example. Every day US military bases overseas are attacked and over the past 40 days the number and strength of these attacks have increased significantly. One of the armies attacking them is the Iraqi military arm Kataeb brigade that has been bombing the shit out of US military bases in Iraq and Syria ever since US deployed troops in Gaza. All US has done in response was to sanction them Grin
1002  Economy / Economics / Re: Imaginary Future on: November 18, 2023, 05:23:42 AM
Do you ever feel like that being after saving or investing for future you forget to live in the present?
Yeah, it is very easy to get caught in a routine and forget to live a little. The worst thing that sometimes happen to people is when they "live to make money instead of making money to live".

You don't buy the things you want to or don't go after experiences you want because you'd rather save/invest for future instead.
It is not a bad thing to want to save or invest your money for the future as long as you have a clear plan not just saving money forever. For example you could be planning on working hard and saving money for 5 years to reach your big goals then from that point you loosen up and start spending more. But if you save money for 5 years then continue not spending anything and invest more and save more, you'd be wasting your life.

Besides, Franky had some good points on this. In a lot of cases people are too lost in consumerism that they think they need something but they really don't.
1003  Economy / Economics / Re: House to consider stopgap funding measure today to avert government shutdown on: November 17, 2023, 12:02:49 PM
what do YOU guys think?  Shocked
Nah, everything is fine. There is no economic, energy, food, etc. crisis at all. This is all fake LOL.

In all seriousness though, this was expected with the way Biden is burning through money and the printers are working 24/7 increasing the US national debt. The worst part is that this is still nothing compared to what is coming in the following years as the debt goes beyond $50 trillion and different States start their separation from United States and US ends up with the same fate as USSR.

However I wonder how long before Americans start heavily investing in the only capped money in existence which is Bitcoin...
1004  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Is bigger block capacity still a taboo? on: November 17, 2023, 07:12:16 AM
Your poll can not be answered because it is missing the important part about "time". In other words it is unclear when you ask "What are your thoughts on increasing bitcoin's block capacity?" when do you mean?
For example if it is a hard fork to increase block size in the future when the need arises, then my answer is a big fat YES. We definitely need to increase the on-chain capacity at some point but the important part is the "at some point" part.

Right now we do not need a block capacity increase. The reason is pretty simple: the adoption hasn't grown enough for the current block capacity to not-be enough for the legitimate usage. Since I have to dot all the eyes and cross all the tees: Legitimate use is anything that is not a spam attack, meaning where people use bitcoin to transfer money or in other words when Bitcoin is the "peer to peer digital cash system" that it was intended to.
When it is used as "cloud storage" it is considered abuse and the transactions are spam. Meaning right now that the congestion is caused by abusing the protocol to perform an attack on bitcoin, this is not natural and the exploit should be fixed instead of increasing the capacity to let bigger spam in.

P.S. I don't think increasing block capacity has ever been a "taboo" as some like to exaggerate it. HOW it is increased has been the source of a lot of disagreement.
1005  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How do you like AI for trading crypto? on: November 17, 2023, 07:01:58 AM
AI in trading has always been good for executing predefined scripts that requires machine accuracy and speed. But when it came to decision making to execute trades based on machine's analysis, they have always been terrible and this is not about to change. The biggest problem with AI and trading is that they can easily be gamed which means it can lead to huge losses.
1006  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Question about Bitcoin network spammer on: November 17, 2023, 04:57:51 AM
They basically created a fake market where scammers create garbage and sell it to newbies who think they can make a profit. Because that garbage (the Ordinals) has a separate value in that market, the newbies don't mind paying a high fee on-chain to transfer that garbage around trading it for possible profits.

This makes things difficult for normal bitcoin users wanting to send bitcoin transactions since a spam attack with incentive to spam is going on.
I am completely frank right now, I just don't understand why someone creates garbage and why someone pays tons of money on it?

I found this ordinal on okx.com
Can anyone really explain, why does it have value and why does someone buy it? Is it a masterpiece? No, it's a piece of garbage. Why should someone pay bitcoins in it? And if we keep in mind that mempool is spammed, then it means that tens of thousands of people create this garbage every day. I have never seen any masterpiece listed on NFT marketplace, there are only pixelated shits everywhere.

Everyone please check this: https://ordiscan.com/inscription/40034415
What's the point of this ordinal? It has text $OG$ only. Do people really pay money to gain the ownership of $OG$ on blockchain? I'm losing my mind.

Also, why are pixelated arts popular instead of arts like Da Vinci's Last Supper, Salvador Dali's The Persistence of Memory, The tower of babel by Pieter Bruegel the elder and so on.
It makes no sense I know Smiley
It is all about marketing to be able to sell dog shit to anyone who buys it. If they told them it is garbage, nobody would have even bothered looking at it. But when they use the term "art" to sell garbage, it gives the idiots the false feeling that it may actually have a value.

It is not new either. I remember in 2017 when the hype started for the first time, they were using anything they could. For example for a while they were trying to tie ICO scams with anything in real world that they could. Two major topics I recall were patient files (for health care system stored in blockchain) which was total bullshit and energy (where they basically hoped to create PetroToken{s} like PetroDollar and sell it to the fools).
Ever since 2017 they have changed face a lot but the fundamentals of the scam remain the same:
ICO, IDO, IBO, IEO, ITO, STO, DeFi, NFT, Ordinals
1007  Other / Off-topic / Re: Reversible computation promises cryptographic strength instead of weakness. on: November 17, 2023, 04:26:33 AM
Why do you still struggle to understand the difference between "encryption" which by design is and has to be reversible and "hash algorithm" that by design is not reversible?
By the way in Bitcoin we do not use any kind of encryption whatsoever. So even bringing it up using AES in context of Bitcoin is irrelevant.
1008  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Extra layers of security to prevent hacks on crypto transaction sites & exchange on: November 17, 2023, 04:19:26 AM
Considering that the biggest scams were when the exchange itself gets hacked and everyone loses their money, the solution to that is not using CEX in first place and using DEX instead.
However, using DEX is also not totally safe if the user does not disable the access or permission granted to the DEX when using it.
There is no perfect system so you are right, there will always be vulnerabilities that the users must be aware of. But generally speaking about security, using DEX eliminates a lot of the vulnerabilities that exist in CEX successfully.

Another thing is smart contract vulnerabilities. Some DEX provides their service using smart contracts and if there's a vulnerability in the DEX smart contract bad actors can use it to steal crypto.
I wouldn't call what you have in mind DEX. These are basically "token swap platforms" where you can only swap different shittokens with each other. They have much worse vulnerabilities than what is inherited from the token's contract, since they are sometimes written by incompetent developers and are not popular enough to attract any kind of contributor to help improve the tool.
1009  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycotting iSrAEl's product? think again. on: November 16, 2023, 06:22:03 PM
And I can easily prove this! 1947. This year, two states were actually created - Israel and Palestine.
Classic Zionist propagandist trying to twist the history and give legitimacy to the illegitimate Zionist regime which is now categorized as a terrorist organization.

Up until 1948 the Brits were the occupiers of these lands. After WW2 ended and Britain was no longer "great" they needed to give up a lot of colonies, so they took advantage and shipped all the Jews (they hated as much as Hitler) to these occupied lands by fooling them with the concept the Jews call "Aliyah". With the help of rest of Europe and US. They wanted to kill two birds with one stone: to get rid of Jews and have a proxy in West Asia.
Here you can see US gathering Jews to be shipped to Palestine:

These Jews were seen as refugees escaping the war torn Europe seeking asylum in Palestine so they were received by Arabs in their lands. As we can see in this image from 1947 the thousands of Jews that are shipped to occupied Palestine are pleading for asylum: "Germans destroyed our families and our homes, don't you destroy our hopes" can be read on the side of Theodor Herzl ship that has brought them to Palestine.

Another source for the image from a different angle: https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/alicia_appleman_jurman/12/

Jews were supposed to be housed in these small settlements inside Palestine shown in white. But as you can see from the day the Zionist infestation began, they have been swallowing Palestine whole. Ethnically cleansing Palestinians and occupying their homes.

At this point there is not much left of Palestine and Gaza is their last stance against the apartheid regime occupying their homes. They either win and wipe out Zionist terrorists then Palestinians and Jews can start living side by side like the past 2000 years or the terrorists succeed in their genocide and end Palestine which means next they start their expansion plans by invading other neighbors starting from the weakest Egypt and Jordan.
Now you know why the Hurricane of Al-Aqsa took place on October 7 and why it still is a nightmare for the terrorist organization, Israel. Now you also understand why the Israeli terrorists are murdering civilians, specially children this easily. They have been doing it for years trying to end an entire race!

P.S. I thank god every day that we succeeded in destroying ISIS otherwise we would have been arguing with @DrBeer over the "legitimacy" of the country of Daesh!!! which is the copy of Israel with the same extreme ideologies as the Zionist terrorists.
1010  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: November 16, 2023, 02:00:33 PM
Thanks, I know this. However I was asking about the presence of the "hidden"  opt in the wallet settings (I have perused all available menu's opts , but didn't find it )that would allow to override that default response and sign transaction with any SIGHASH flag.  In fact,  I doubt whether I would ever need the other response, thus, that was just a thought-provoking  question (to officials, which still holds on).
Although I haven't gone through the whole code but from what I've checked I don't think they have ever implemented that part of the code responsible for computing the sig-hash (digest) for other sighash flags. You can see that elsewhere too. For example in the below link you can see the method that is computing sig-hash for SegWit outputs according to BIP-143, it is clear that this is not a full implementation of the BIP as it skips other sighash types and only supports SIGHASH_ALL (no _NONE no _SINGLE and no _ANYONECANPAY).

1011  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycotting iSrAEl's product? think again. on: November 16, 2023, 01:45:26 PM
Not every people want to spend more money for a same thing,
Why more? In a lot of cases the products listed in the picture are a lot more expensive than their alternatives only because of their brand name.

Quote
more importantly not every country can survive with their own resources, many country still depend on import as they can get cheaper price or they completely don't have that due to many reasons e.g. bad weather, limited resource, lack of human resource etc.
Good news is that there are countless competitors for a lot of "simple products" from burgers to shampoos and drinks that have at least same quality if not better as replacements. These countries can easily import those instead. I assure you that the alternative producers would love to expand their business in today's economic hardship and tight competition to kick their competitors out.

In some cases specially in Asia, the shipping cost would decrease too since the alternative is closer.

Quote
I'd say only both China and Russia can live without depends on import, while the rest they don't have any choice.
Both of these countries import a ton of stuff. IIRC China imports is about $3 trillion annually.

from people who selectively forgot about October 7, 2022.
Nobody is forgetting October 7, it will go down in history and from a military perspective this operation will be taught in military schools around the world in the coming decades.

What is interesting is that Zionists insist on spreading the propaganda that everything started on October 7, while ignoring the 7 decades that led to this date. The genocide that Israeli terrorists have committed all these years is not forgotten by anybody. Wink
1012  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Foundation Passport Official Thread on: November 16, 2023, 07:00:02 AM
Anyway, just of my curiosity. Is there menu's opt that makes possible for device to sign transactions with  SIGHASH flags other than SIGHASH_ALL?
If you are importing a PSBT file for signing, the code rejects any sighash types that is not SIGHASH_ALL and there is no option to override that as far as I can tell from the source code:
https://github.com/Foundation-Devices/passport2/blob/3d570fba50b40d65a04087127138426c2570e5a0/ports/stm32/boards/Passport/modules/psbt.py#L512-L514
1013  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycotting iSrAEl's product? think again. on: November 16, 2023, 05:34:07 AM
Definitely! I said it before that people will still spend - be it on a direct competitor or something else so the money will still flow. The only concern I have on this is that the local employees of these boycotted companies will also be affected negatively. If they cannot be absorbed by other companies then the local economy will probably take a hit too.
Any kind of transition is always hard but it is inevitable. The effects are in short term though. We've already seen such a transition in Russia when some businesses left (like McDonalds which was a $1.4 billion loss), the employees that lost their jobs in short term got absorbed into other jobs eventually and that ended up helping the domestic economy in the longer run (that is $1.4 billion that no longer exits the country to go into the pockets of a foreigner).
1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to roll-back Ordinals? on: November 16, 2023, 04:55:03 AM
You see in Bitcoin, preventing abuse has always been about making it harder not impossible.
Then maybe it's time to propose change. Perhaps start off this forum, talk about it in Bitcoin Core's github, and if you see recognition submit a BIP. One thing's for sure. You are not going to change anything if you continue calling it "Ordinal attack" in an Internet board.
"An internet board" is just as important as anywhere else, after all Bitcoin network is run by regular users not by devs. First people have to realize what Ordinals is then we can move on to making a change. So many users still think they are creating a token with this exploit!
Not to mention that I'm already doing that elsewhere too and am already rejecting these malicious transactions myself.
1015  Economy / Economics / Re: Boycotting iSrAEl's product? think again. on: November 16, 2023, 04:07:09 AM
It's all about the profit that these "franchises" pour into the pockets of the terrorist organization, Israel.
By boycotting said products people around the world are decreasing the amount of profit these companies make and consequently they decrease the amount of money the terrorist organization makes.
Not to mention that a lot of these companies in the list and a lot of others like Walt Disney! have been funding the organization to help them commit more crimes against humanity. So they have to see at least some consequence for supporting terrorism and genocide, even if it is a small revenue loss (although it may not be that small).

Let me emphasize something @Faisal2202 said but went unnoticed. Boycotting a lot of these products will help local economy. Many of these products aren't anything special that can not or is not produced locally. For example McDonald's isn't selling something high tech or special! It is burgers and fries. Something anyone else can do too, and in a much better quality. The revenue that these foreign companies lose goes to all the local ones. For example when people stop buying the low quality McDonald's burgers, they start going to other fast food restaurants and help those small businesses.
1016  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Some rich person not interest about bitcoin for following reason on: November 15, 2023, 04:18:36 PM
A friend of mine is not interested in buying Bitcoin even after learning about it.
Because according to him Bitcoin is a small number of people who have a lot of Bitcoin. They can easily go down on the bitcoin market if they want to.
Well you should know and also tell them that Bitcoin is not an investment, it is a currency and its purpose is not to give you profit. It is made to give you financial sovereignty. By converting your centralized censorable fiat to the decentralized censorship resistant bitcoin you can freely use your money without having someone else's hands in your pocket.

Example: Cz. Craig wright & Michel Sailor etc.
The fact that your "friend" thinks a scammer like Wright has a lot of bitcoin shows how little he understands of the Bitcoin world. They are probably better off not having any bitcoins at all. Wink Such people can be easily fooled and be taken advantage of.
1017  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Send hospital ships to Gaza on: November 15, 2023, 03:46:10 PM
A city under terrorist attack doesn't need immediate medical aid, it needs military aid to first get rid of the terrorists then start thinking about other needs. Not to mention that the Israeli terrorists are currently bombing any medical centers and refugee camps inside Gaza making sending any kind of aid impossible.

Today the Israeli terrorists surrounded the biggest hospital in Gaza called Al-Shifa with their tanks and the armed terrorists that entered the hospital have been taking civilian hostages and shot as many medical workers as they could.

1018  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Satoshi were here, what question would you ask about the future of Bitcoin on: November 15, 2023, 11:17:01 AM
Interestingly enough many of the questions you have in mind have already been asked and they are usually answered by Satoshi in early days. For example the Ordinals Spam Attack is a concern that was raised in a different form. People were trying to store DNS information inside bitcoin (that is pretty much the same as Ordinals attack which is using bitcoin as cloud storage) and Satoshi said along the lines of "not everything needs to be done by Bitcoin". Which is why that idea migrated to its own project called Namecoin.
Which is pretty much where we are now, if anyone wanted to create NFTs they should use a platform that actually has that option instead of using Bitcoin that does NOT and end up only spamming the chain with garbage.

3. If he actually projected mainstream adoption of Bitcoin in term of the features of Bitcoin such as speed, security, accessibility as cost effectiveness, base on present realities.
I don't think that kind of prediction has ever been possible. Even now we can not project the adoption in the near future. If you look at Satoshi's prediction he left it WIDE OPEN when he said "in 20 years there will either be very large transaction volume or no volume at all". Tongue
1019  Economy / Economics / Re: Foreign reserves on: November 15, 2023, 11:05:02 AM
its not actually inflation.. its the FOREX exchange rate changing
They are linked. When exchange rate of a currency drops, it leads to inflation. Of course it is not the only thing that affects inflation but it has a significant effect.

Quote
for instance in the last 3 years... $1 to UK pound
2020 £0.86
2021 £0.70 (↓ 19%)
2022 £0.70 (↑ 37%)

the UK retail market of everyday purchases did not change by a down of 19% or up by 37% due to forex rate changes
When you are reporting exchange rate for a whole year you can't just take a single point in a fluctuating market (eg. the peak in case of 2020) and run your conclusion based on that. In this case pound exchange rate started 2020 at $0.76 and only went to $0.86 "momentarily" before coming down to $0.76 again.
So you should at least use the average of the year which was around $0.75.
Same with other years, 2021 average looks around $0.72 which makes the drop about 4% not 19%.

Quote
however.. international trade of things like oil do fluctuate based on forex.. however.. UK oil when taking advantage of the good times do not trickle down the benefits to the retail price of fuel.

for instance retail products did not get 37% cheaper in 2022-2023.. however UK fuel prices are no longer £1.90 a litre but now £1.50 a litre
You are again focusing too much on peaks. Fuel prices didn't come down from £1.90. They went up from £1.02 to £1.52 in this time frame.
And fuel is just one thing to consider when talking about product prices. There is interest rate, recession, inflation, supply chain disruptions, import troubles and expenses, and a lot more.
1020  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Extra layers of security to prevent hacks on crypto transaction sites & exchange on: November 15, 2023, 05:23:45 AM
Considering that the biggest scams were when the exchange itself gets hacked and everyone loses their money, the solution to that is not using CEX in first place and using DEX instead.

concurrent withdrawals should have a 10 - 20 minutes interval. This will give the developers the time to check properly the transactions and authenticate it automatically of it passes security verification. The check can be automated to curb excess delay
The only way to process withdrawals is automatic, it is impossible to do them by hand unless the exchange has a handful of users. Any delays added to withdrawals is only worsening user experience and pushes customers away.

Quote
There should be an amount of withdrawal which should trigger strict security verification. The withdrawal  can be permitted when the check is complete. Users can be notified of its security importance
Requiring 2FA on all withdrawals is enough security.

Quote
The system should log out users after 5-10 minutes of inactivity or if focus is changed to another application. This will apply even to the primary login device.
That is terrible for an exchange since users would leave the page open and idle at some point when trading.
