1001  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin won't send from my Electrum wallet....just says unpaid on: January 16, 2021, 03:39:22 PM

yup, that's fine Smiley

by the way, i was still editing my previous post... Maybe it's a good idear to read the edited version and see if that's a sollution to your problem?
There's no guarantee you'll be seeing the same screens tough... Wether or not you see these screens depends on your settings... So maybe there's a different problem in your case...
1002  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin won't send from my Electrum wallet....just says unpaid on: January 16, 2021, 03:34:48 PM
As long as you have a newbie rank, you can't get images to show up... Just post the link to imgur (like you did before) and we'll be able to see your image by clicking said link.

Here's a simple example of me trying to send funds:
Step 1

step 2

you see? exactly the same kind of screen as you were showing... no problem, just click "finalise"

Step 3

Step 4 is signing the transaction and broadcasting it... But since this is a demo, i won't do this Smiley
1003  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users on: January 16, 2021, 03:31:35 PM
--snip++

I could add a dot onion to the list if you have one for the node (I thought most function over the dark net anyway as there's no other option for electrum).

I don't have one for the node... I do run some other hidden services (for example, my tbtc faucet is accesible as a hidden service), but not this node.
If i have some spare time next week, i might look into it, i run a tor daemon anyways, so it should be pretty a pretty trivial task to accomplish. thanks for the tip Smiley
1004  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin won't send from my Electrum wallet....just says unpaid on: January 16, 2021, 03:22:22 PM
This is my first time sending from Electrum.  I downloaded the latest version and verified.  The node is connected(green dot on bottom right).  I'm not sure about 2FA or not. How do I check?  I've tried sending with every available fee option.

https://imgur.com/RrHGdOp

quote to show the image... Do you see a "sign" "finalize" button on the screen you screenshotted?
I mean, this could be a perfectly normal screen depending on your settings.
1005  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Overview of lightning network nodes owned by forum users on: January 16, 2021, 03:15:19 PM
Just as a heads-up, my node is online and hasn't been offline for a longer while in months (it did crash about half a year ago, and was offline for a couple of weeks back then)... The problem is my btcpayserver implementation. It's written in .net, and it's slooooow... It regularly times out and shows my node as being offline, while in reality it never went offline, btcpayserver just timed out.
1006  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Bitcoin won't send from my Electrum wallet....just says unpaid on: January 16, 2021, 03:07:25 PM
I usually upload images to imgur, they allow you to hotlink images directly from their servers.

This being said, i already have some questions for you:
  • Is this a watch only wallet?
  • Are you connected to an electrum node (is a green button being shown in the right bottom corner)
  • Are you 100% sure you downloaded electrum from electrum.org, and did you verify the signature?
  • Is 2FA enabled?
1007  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Hand sanitisers in food stores on: January 15, 2021, 03:04:42 PM
I'm not going to enter into a big discussion here... I respect Jet Cash in most of the opinions he has voiced in this forum over the years, but i can't disagree more on the opinions about corona-related subjects (wearing masks, vaccinations, hand sanitisers,...). I usually keep my mouth shut because these things have very little (or nothing) to do with BTC, but from time to time i can't help myself. Believe it or not, but i do have a masters in science and i did have to study things like bacteriology, virology, statistics, biochemistry,.... so believe it or not, i know more about this stuff than somebody who just gets their info from facebook-groups (not saying this is the case with Jet Cash... But just generally speaking).

My (now retired) mother used to be an operation room nurse for over 40 years, what do you think they use to sanitize their hands? Why do you think the medical professionals have relied on the exact same type of alcojels for decades? It's because using these sanitizers gives less infections for their patients compared to using water and soap and they ar'e better for your skin compared to using iodine, pure alcohol, peroxide, chlorine,...

Doctors and nurses have been putting this stuff on their hands dozens of times a day for years... I wouldn't want to be touched by a docter that didn't disinfect his/her hands after treating the previous patient.

I'm not saying you should drink this stuff, or inject it, or smear it over your food directly before eating it... But it has been around long enough to allow us to say that using this stuff is both effective and safe.

I live next to a big fruit-tree farmer. I know how much pesticides these guys spray over the fruit you buy in the store... I never ever eat unpeeled fruits (unless they come from my own trees), if there's something that cannot be peeled it gets washed toroughly... I wouldn't worry about somebody that used hand sanitiser that might have touched my food... I'm worried about the people that didn't use sanitiser, i'm worried about the pesticides, i'm worried about microplastics... Eating unwashed foods has very little to do with training your immune system, but has everything to do with consuming pesticides and non-natural chemicals... It won't make you stronger, but it might decrease your expected lifespan.
1008  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How do I safely transact / sell btc over the counter at a bitcoin exchange shop? on: January 14, 2021, 12:39:36 PM

Would it be safe for the watching-only wallet to be a rooted mobile phone that's always online? What's the worst that can happen? Let's say if the phone is compromised.

As long as you keep the airgapped computer offline, the worst that could happen if you use the xpub on a rooted phone that was compromised is basically that the hacker would be able to derive a list of addresses and check if they were funded.
He/she can not rob you, but he/she can harm your privacy... that's about it...

--snip--

I could take the airgaped computer (laptop) to the store. I'm concerned about getting online.

If you follow electrum's walktrough, there shouldn't be any instance where you have to bring your laptop online.
If you're really worried, just create an airgapped testnet wallet using the same electrum binaries on your laptop and mobile phone (just start the wallet with the testnet parameter). Fund your testnet wallet and try to spend your funds... If you can spend the testnet funds from your airgapped setup without bringing your laptop online, there should be no reason why you wouldn't be able to do the same on the main net.
1009  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: BTC instead of BCH on: January 13, 2021, 01:28:03 PM
Hi now i did see the funds in my BCH account, but they are only viewable, not spendable, what can i do to make them fully mine ?

This usually means you did not export the private key from you BTC wallet and imported it into your BCH wallet like you said in your first post...
If you import the address instead of the private key, you create a watch-only wallet.

Without further information, this is the most likely scenario
1010  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Problem with Ledger Nano S on: January 11, 2021, 08:16:12 AM
The first will advice you to do is to make use of iamcoleman, make use of it offfline. Make sure you use it offline because it is not safe of making use of such online.

https://iancoleman.io/bip39/

Type your seed phrase and see the address it generates. Check if your ledger nano s address that you use to send the bitcoin from coinbase is there.

If it is there, you can just import the seed phrase or the seed to electrum if your balance will appear and check try to send your bitcoin.

Importing the seed into electrum basically voids the hardware wallet's security. If you do this, you should treat your hardware wallet as compromised.
There is no need to do this, since electrum is compatible with ledger, so you can create a new electrum wallet using your hardware wallet directly. This way you can use electrum's features (and stability), but still sign transactions on your ledger without compromising your keys

I would start by doing this, odds are OP's ledger live is just acting up, so there's no need to start messing around typing in his seed phrase... If he just couples his ledger to electrum, and still can't figure out what went wrong, using iancoleman's tools to create his master private key and derive a list of private keys/public keys/addresses might be a good second step tough...
1011  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Problem with Ledger Nano S on: January 11, 2021, 08:13:08 AM
I really don't like ledger live... I find it buggy/laggy myself, sometimes my history shows up incorrectly, sometimes i get errors when signing transactions.
Maybe you could try using your ledger with electrum?

Make sure you download the latest version directly from electrum.org, check the signature (it has to be signed by ThomasV), then follow the initialisation wizard (make sure you select the option "standard wallet" => "use hardware device"
1012  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fraud on: January 08, 2021, 04:43:42 PM
I agree with the 2 posters above...
But I wanted to add that binance is right, the can not help you nor can they be helt liable in any way...

Compare to fiat: if you created a bank transfer from your account with bank A to the account of a scammer, would you blame bank A?

So, yes, binance is a well known exchange, but they have nothing to do with you being scammed.
1013  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Updated bitcoin miner client flowchart - is this correct now? on: January 08, 2021, 02:39:12 PM
Why would we disrespect your work? You're clearly interested and making an effort, and that's always a good thing Smiley

I sent you a merit because i'd like it if you stayed in the community, we're always interested in people that show the willingless to learn!

That being said, there are a couple things in your diagram that strike me as odd:

1) you have a loop between "mine blockchain for reward" and "is hash legit". This is true, but the loop should actually go back even further: As soon as your node receives a new block, it should be verified and you should start your mining process all over. The way your flow diagram is created now will continue mining UNTILL you find a valid header, EVEN if you receive new, valid blocks

2) the "fetch the miner's wallet" isn't 100% correct terminology, but even if we disregard this, the step is not placed in the correct place: when mining, you're searching for a nonce for which the sha256d hash of the header is under the current target. The block header you're iterating over contains the merkle root right from the start, so you should know which address you want to be funded if you solve a block BEFORE you start hashing.

3) it's perfectly possible to use an address that's not belonging to your wallet to receive the coinbase reward... There is no need to "add reward to miner's wallet"

Solo mining is basically:
Building an utxo set and filling your mempool with unconfirmed transactions
=>
Receive a new block, update your utxo db and mempool
=>
Select the top 1Mb (not countig witness data) transactions from your mempool and create a block. Add the coinbase transaction funding your own address with the current block reward + fees from the selected transactions (fee = sum of the value of all the inputs minus the sum of the value of all the outputs)
=>
create the block header (including the hash of the previous's block header, the root of the merkle tree of all tx's selected in the previous step, the nonce and some extra data)
=>
Iterate over the nonce untill you find a block header whose sha256d hash is under the current target OR untill a new valid block is received by your node (if you receive a new valid block, go back to the second step of this list)

A secondary loop should continue receiving broadcasted transactions to keep filling your mempool

pool mining is basically:
The last step of solo mining
1014  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin fraud on: January 08, 2021, 01:52:33 PM
It's kind of hard to understand the exact problem... you lost me when you started talking about an exchange, where does it fit into the scam and which exchange are you talking about?

This being said, without knowing more details, it's a 2-part answer:
  • Transactions are irreversible. Once a transaction is confirmed and has a couple confirmations, it's impossible to reclaim your funds (there are theoretical options if you controll >50% of the network's hashrate, but in reality it's impossible). Even unconfirmed transactions are really hard to cancel: you need both skill and a lot of luck
  • When you talk about a popular (unregulated) exchange, you can probably still open a police report and drag them to court IF you live in the same country they're located in... Sure, you can't reverse any transaction, but maybe if enough people file police reports, they might be forced to reimburse their victims

It's basically the same with any crypto scam: once you sent funds to a scammer, your funds are gone... But if you (or a judge) can convice/force them to reimburse you, this is your best option (this option works for all kind of scams, not only crypto-related ones)
1015  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Oh that feeling... when the price goes crazy...after you sold! on: January 08, 2021, 12:17:44 PM
--snip--

You could not have said this any better, because that is exactly how I feel at the moment. I just know if I did not sell those coins and the price went back to $10 000 or $12 000... then I would have felt much worst. That is money in the Bank now... and I killed a lot of small jackals with those irritating debts that had to be settled.

The settled debt takes away the monthly payments and also the interest on the outstanding balance... so it is a double bonus for me. ( I get interest on the balance in the Bank AND I have more money to spend, without all the high interest I had to pay on that debt )  Wink

Looks like you're one of the lucky ones to live in a country where you still receive intrest for the money in your bank account... In my country the intrest rates of allmost all banks has dropped to 0.01%, but an average account costs like 3€/month, and you have to pay an extra tax when the bank calculates you intrest...
You need to have an account with >300.000 euro's to make a net profit (not including inflation) if you keep your money @ the bank in my country.

But yeah, my mortgage still has an intrest rate of 1,4%, so paying off part of my mortgage will have a positive effect on my family's monthly balance... And i feel better when i have less debt with big banks nowadays.
1016  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller on: January 08, 2021, 12:11:42 PM
ok now it started fine.

well since the ppa:luke-jr/bitcoincore i have strange files in my home folder.

ill start over

install ubuntu-mate-18.04.5-desktop-i366.iso
copy bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz to /home/MYUSERNAME/downloads
cd /home/silver2tb/Downloads/
tar xvfz bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz
sudo install -o root -g root -t /usr/local/bin bitcoin-0.19.1/bin/*
and i should be good to go.

im for at least 5 hours away now.
thanks in advance

Perfect, happy to hear you're making progress  Grin
If you run into any other troubles: don't hesitate to ask, i'll be AFK during the weekend, but i'm back on monday... And there are other people more knowledgeable than me are still roaming the forum during the weekend anyways, so you'll probably get some help anyways.
1017  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller on: January 08, 2021, 11:22:54 AM
CPU op-mode is          32-bit
dell inspiron 6400

In that case, you're stuck with a 32 bit OS, so you'll have to remove the bitcoin binary's package you downloaded and download the correct ones instead...
I think this one should do the trick:
https://bitcoin.org/bin/bitcoin-core-0.19.1/bitcoin-0.19.1-i686-pc-linux-gnu.tar.gz

0.20.x wasn't compiled for 32 bit architectures anymore i'm afraid... but 19.1 is fairly recent and should do the trick just fine.
1018  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller on: January 08, 2021, 11:08:32 AM
uname -a
Linux MYUSERNAME 5.4.0-59-generic #65~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Dec 14 16:02:42 UTC 2020 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

That's the problem... You're trying to run a 64bit binary on a 32 bit os.

So, you have 2 options:
1) install a 64 bit OS... you can check if your cpu is capable by executing:
Code:
lscpu

Look at the CPU op-mode(s). If it shows "32-bit, 64-bit", you can grab a 64 bit version of ubuntu. If not, only option 2 is available to you

2) download a 32 bit binary version of bitcoin-qt
https://bitcoin.org/bin/
1019  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller on: January 08, 2021, 11:01:25 AM
readelf -h /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt
ELF-Header:
--snip--
  Maschine:                          Advanced Micro Devices X86-64
--snip--
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt
/usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, x86-64, version 1 (GNU/Linux), dynamically linked, interpreter /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, for GNU/Linux 3.2.0, BuildID[sha1]=82bc25b0f2ebe1bc6f85acc8452eab4f6554c4cc, stripped

So my assumption was wrong... Since you were talking about a notebook, i can only assume it's indeed an x86 architecture... but just to be sure, can you try:
Code:
uname -a

if you see x86_64, the binary should be compiled for your architecture
1020  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: BitcoinQT wallet. Blockchain grows and hdd is getting smaller on: January 08, 2021, 10:36:11 AM
when i type bitcoin-qt in terminal .
bash : / /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt cannot execute the binary file: error in the format of the program file.  (thats some leftovers from my tar.gz install.)

and there is no .bitcoin folder in my /home/<YOUR USERNAME>/
i have hiddenfiles enabled ( i see other folders like .cache .gnupg .local)

the error makes me wonder if you downloaded the correct version... I wouldn't be supprised if you were trying to run a binary that wasn't compiled for your architecture.
try these commands:
Code:
readelf -h /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt
file /usr/local/bin/bitcoin-qt

Also, the .bitcoin folder will be generated by running bitcoind or bitcoin-qt. Since you couldn't run the binary, the folder wasn't created.

About the folder: read my first post... You don't need to run bitcoind, you can copy the .bitcoin folder before starting bitcoind or bitcoin-qt for the first time. This way, a new wallet won't be generated, and you won't have to deal with the confusion of finding 2 identically named wallets.
