10221  Other / Meta / Re: Is it fine to have an alt and use it in different campaign? on: May 27, 2019, 03:55:37 PM
I don’t think you would be tagged solely for this. If you disclose it, don’t spam or try to abuse (e.g by trying to join the same campaign when that’s not allowed), I don’t think there would be any major issues.

IIRC, hilariousandco (a Global Mod) was once part of two campaigns (on his two accounts) at the same time.
10222  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase and XAPO questions on: May 27, 2019, 02:46:43 PM
IIRC, Xapo now requires a full KYC verification (besides, they are pretty shit and even charge fees for low BTC deposits).

Coinbase doesn’t require KYC if you use their wallet to deposit and withdraw BTC... However, they can ask you for that information at any time if they want. So it’s risky. And of course, they require KYC to buy/sell BTC.
10223  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum says synchronizing on: May 27, 2019, 02:41:43 PM
Which version are you using?

Versions < 3.3 don’t synchronize anymore. Go to Electrum.org and download the latest version.
10224  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to know whether the wallet is deterministic wallet or not? on: May 27, 2019, 01:58:05 PM
I do not know much just in learning stage so, clearing my doubt. Blockchain.info was a non deterministic and I read that passphrase also introduce risk of loss when both of these disadvantage are there in Blockchian.info why were or are users using it. Does it have some positive side as well?

Sorry, if I have miss understood.
Are you asking why people use Blockchain.info? It’s used by users who don’t know much and prefer a simple web interface (that can be accessed anywhere) at the cost of the most security other wallets may offer.
10225  Economy / Reputation / Re: Who was the 4th person that gave merit to OG's dox from vod? on: May 27, 2019, 01:40:11 PM
Now stay on topic and discuss those that merited OG's dox by vod.
Can’t you look for that on his “received merit” history of the last 120 days?
10226  Economy / Exchanges / Re: NegocieCoins and TemBTC potential scam? on: May 27, 2019, 10:17:20 AM
just a quick update, users have been unable to withdrawal their BTCs from all exchanges involved for over a week now. this might be the biggest scam in crypto in a long time (easily over 1 billion reais in lost funds - about $250mm).
We will know this Wednesday (when they said they will enable withdrawals again).

But are you sure about these numbers? R$ 1 bi sounds like a lot, even for them. I’ve never seen conclusive numbers anywhere.
10227  Other / Meta / Re: Has anyone suggested adding an autolock feature to advanced options? on: May 27, 2019, 10:01:05 AM
I prefer more conclusive answers and a well informed post (even with a few extra redundant/spam posts) than a couple of half-ass solution.

There is already a lock thread option. If we really want to reduce the spam on answered threads, we should put a warning telling the user to lock it when he is done; and not force a lock because there are 5 posts on that thread.
10228  Other / Meta / Re: You are searching too quickly. Reduce search 90 seconds limit? on: May 26, 2019, 10:26:41 PM
Would buying a copper membership work for him?
The Copper Membership has the same limit as he is stating on his post (90 seconds). But he’s only a Newbie so I don’t know what he’s talking about (AFAIK Newbies have much bigger delays). Maybe that’s his alt.
10229  Other / Meta / Re: You are searching too quickly. Reduce search 90 seconds limit? on: May 26, 2019, 07:22:23 PM
You need to rank up in order to get things working faster. This is typical restriction no only on searching but also PM and reporting.
see here > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0

Ok. I will not use the data from bitcointalk then. If really I realize I need those information, I will just scrap the website and use my own local search engine.
Just use Google. They already do that.

Code:
site:bitcointalk.org your query here

It will search stuff only on Bitcointalk.org
10230  Economy / Exchanges / Re: NegocieCoins on: May 26, 2019, 02:23:00 PM
I’m Brazillian so I can talk a little bit about them.

Almost no one here believes that this is their real volume. They work, so you can actually deposit, trade and withdraw - and with a better price than any other BR exchange. That was until the last few days... they stopped all withdrawals and deposits without any notice and only 2 days ago they released a note saying that some people found an exploit that let them withdraw 2x the amount they had in their balance (making the exchange lose a few millions).

They said they will enable withdrawals again this Wednesday, but no one is sure if that’s going to happen.

Anyways, they are super shady. They are controlled by a group called Bitcoin Banco which also owns another exchange called TemBTC. You can send BTC and BRL back and forth between the two exchanges immediately without paying any fee. The problem is that there is always a big spread between the two exchanges prices (Negocie and TemBTC), so you can arbitrate super easily. Eg: buy 1 BTC for R$ 33500 on TemBTC, send to Negocie immediately and for free, sell for R$ 34000. Easy R$ 500 (~$125) profit.

No one knows why there is such huge spread, so a lot of people think they use both exchanges to launder money or do some other shady stuff.
10231  Economy / Lending / Re: What is collateral? on: May 26, 2019, 01:23:13 PM
Read this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577765.0

Specifically, this post by Vod:

What is considered collateral?

Collateral is something that can easily be resold to cover the loan value plus interest should the loaner default on the loan.

- The best collateral is another crypto-currency, such as Ethereum (also written as ETH).  Coins must be moderately traded on multiple exchanges.
- Some digital wares such as domain names can be considered as long as the user cannot recover it.
- Small valuable items that can be shipped though the mail - i.e. gold, silver, iphones, etc.
- Large items, such as a motorcycle or guitar can be used if you live close to the person giving you the loan.  Try localbitcoins.com

What is not considered collateral?

- Merit.  Bitcointalk Merit is not a commodity and is not meant to be traded.  Asking or doing so may get you negative trust (Trade with Extreme Caution!)
- Items they want to sell.  They don't want it back, so they will default.  It's scammy unethical behavior and will lead to negative trust.  Check their recent posts!
- Items not in hand.  Don't trust a user that promises to give you something *when* they default!  Tracking numbers only show something has been mailed - it could be an empty box.
- Future income.  You can prove you'll make xx coins in the next few days, but nothing forces you to send those coins to pay your debt.
- Identification.  So what if they can prove who they are.  Are you going to spend more money and time taking them to court on untested legal grounds?  You'll probably just walk away, like everyone does.  ID is useless.
- Games codes or similar.  To verify the collateral you need to use the code, which destroys the collateral.  Consider this a purchase, not a loan.  (Post in Digital Goods instead)
- Most new alt-coins or alt-coins that trade for satoshis are not good collateral as they can become worthless overnight.
- Most pre-coins/tokens are worthless, or may take significant time to be worth anything.
- Paypal should never be used - they are anti-bitcoin and will rule against you 100% of the time.  Escrow can't even help, as paypal charge backs can come over six months later!
- Most valuable online accounts can easily be recovered by social engineering (the user contacting support to say they were hacked, and regain control of the account)  Examples:  Steam

-snip-

You were asking for a loan of $200 without giving any collateral. What would have happened if you decide to just run away with the money? The lender would lose everything. By giving him a collateral worth more than the $200, he can recompose his losses if you scam him.
10232  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Is STEX.com a scam? on: May 26, 2019, 11:03:34 AM

Im just trying to help you. You don’t have to pull the passive aggressive card.

But great! Everybody is now warned! Thank you for your service, sir. Maybe lock the thread to avoid more “obvious” stuff? Wink
10233  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Disclosure: Key generation vulnerability found on WalletGenerator.net—potentiall on: May 25, 2019, 09:37:27 PM
I have a question to ask. I always wonder. When I type in my password and username what can be done with that info. Look at brave browser. I will make a fictional scenario.

Let us say brave browser collects all passwords and for which site they are for and emails it daily to the dev?? How do I know if I type my info into a program it is safe? What if the wallets people dev for crypto is on a timer and one day all wallets are emptied and hell breaks loose. Could this happen? Please say something to calm my nerves.
Officially, you don’t unless you audit the source code (if available) and build the software yourself.

Now, you don’t even know if Windows saves your passwords and keystrokes when you use it. Or if your PC manufacturer implemented a chip that opens a backdoor on it, etc, etc... At some point you will have to trust someone.

My suggestion: on most cases, don’t lose your head with it. It’s not worth it. Obviously you shouldn’t trust random softwares or websites, but most known softwares can be trusted (in part). Just do your research and see what other (trusted) members say about it.
10234  Other / Meta / Re: Ban Appeal for over 5-year old account on: May 25, 2019, 05:00:13 PM
OP, I am wondering what happen to Merit sources when they got ban. You still able to use your smerits or it is disabled for you now?
Banned accounts can’t give merit, so even if they remain as a source (until they get removed), they can’t spend their sMerits.

OP has been sig-banned, but he probably got a temp normal ban as well. While he’s on the “banned” status, he can’t merit. After the temp bans expires, I doubt they will remain as a source. But if he does, he’ll be able to spend them again.
10235  Other / Meta / Re: [BAN] Sr. Member tvplus006 - 459 merits [all earned] on: May 25, 2019, 01:06:57 AM
I’m pretty sure that would be considered “ban evading”; banned users can create ONE appeal thread and only post on that thread. Having a discussion somewhere else isn’t allowed.
Nah, it would not. Another thread generated by community,  not by banned user. Forum allow you to create a thread by supporting a person if you think that any person deserve unban or temp ban.

If you think that a ban should be ended, make your case in a new topic from a "good for the forum as a whole" perspective.
If the banned user (OP) posts in the other thread. That’s what I meant. Obviously it wouldn’t be ban evasion if someone else created an appeal for you. lol

A pergunta que me faço nesse momento: Perdi tudo que estava lá?  Cry Cry Cry
Só o tempo dirá (os próximos dias pra ser exato). Diz-se por ai que quarta já vai dar pra sacar de novo (agora com limite de de 1 BTC / dia).

No artigo:

Limite de saque será de R$ 10 mil e 1 Bitcoin por dia, a partir de quarta-feira, dia 29 por prazo indeterminado;
Nas últimas semanas me contaram umas 4 histórias parecidas. "Vamos estar resolvendo o seu problema em breve Sr.". Nunca me senti tão lesado e tão cético em relação a algum acontecimento. Duvido que eles me paguem. A propósito, o título "NEGOCIECOINS FALINDO?" é bem adequado nesse momento.
Bom, sem querer defender eles, mas essa foi a primeira vez que eles revelaram o motivo da “insolvência”, então ou é pra valer ou eles vão correr com o resto do dinheiro.

Most of the ban users recently they are banned because of plagiarism so I think this is the reason why you permanently banned.

Why don't you just continue this unban appeal here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5143666.0 created by your friend? Someone already posted the reason why you've been banned.

He can read that thread, and continue as he wish here (on his own thread).
10239  Local / Brasil / Re: NEGOCIECOINS FALINDO? on: May 24, 2019, 10:49:03 PM

10240  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: BitPay no longer serving banned countries on: May 24, 2019, 08:29:03 PM
but what other service are you talking about here? is there an alternative payment provider already existing on those mentioned countries?
sometimes you really have no choice using the BitPay service.
There are many. E.g my fav one: https://btcpayserver.org/ - as said above (open source, free, you own the keys, no one can freeze your money, block you or ban countries, you can use the lightning network, etc..., and it WORKS EVERYWHERE regardless of your country).

We can all do our part to show these services that we prefer other (better) alternatives.
